Well, I have effectively no idea where people go to talk about Big Finish Torchwood, these days, but how absolutely surreal is it that Moderation from the first Among Us set was apparently recorded in late 2020, if you listen to the interviews?

I mean... it is just EERILY similar to so many things that have been happening with social media over the past year, in re: increased hate speech and loose moderation regs and rampant misinformed batcrap, that I would have thought, "okay, this story was obviously set in 2022..."

Then again, the entire series was originally meant to be about a pandemic, when it was conceived in 2019 or so. So, what I'm really wondering is: is someone on the BF Torchwood writing team actually psychic? 😂

This week in obscure Doctor Who expanded universe references the internet has found:

First, the pub has a beer called Llanfer Ceiriog Pale Ale. While there's some similarly named locations IRL, with the Ceiriog Valley being a valley in North-East Wales, there is no place actually called this. Instead it's seemingly a direct reference to a fictional Welsh village visited by Seven and Ace in Cat's Cradle: Witch's Mark, connected by a stone circle to a planet of fantasy creatures. Quite ironic, given how mocking the landlady and patrons are about people thinking Welsh villages are backwards and full of witchcraft.

Secondly, while this might be a coincidence, Kate's suggestion of a Sontaran's arrival inspiring belief in God could be referencing DWM 59's comic: "The Gods Walk Among Us", where ancient Egyptians indeed mistake a Sontaran named Styx for a god.

Bonus, because it's not actually a reference, but just a reused filming location:

The pub Ruby stays in is the same one in Countrycide. At least in this case, however, it's just a filming location coincidence. The external shots are completely different, they're in different villages, and the pubs have different names.

Okay I know that the Torchwood: the story continues stuff is seen kinda critical. And I've only listened to the first volume this far, but I just have to say that I love it!!

Minor spoilers about some non so important scenes but I don't wanna spoil anyone who wants to blind into the series:

First: Tyler trying to write a new Article while using Grindr and Hooking up with Jack and on the literal same day Jack dies and Tyler is like... fuck I kinda killed my one night stand.

Then Tyler trying to figure out why Mr. Colechester doesn't like him und says things like "oh yeah you're old and hate the gays and probably the refugees as well" and Mr. Colechester is like "I'm going home now to my muslim husband" I LOVE IT

Aaaand then Mr. Cholechester trying to phone Jack who is "running" and out of breath. And then immediatly after he tries and phone Tyler who is also out of breath but is indeed saying that he's on a date night and then in the end Mr. Colechester is like "say hi to Jack"

WTF HOW CAN I TAKE THIS SERIES SERIOUSLY????

Oooh and also when Jack is a barkeeper in that Hotelbar and hast this special cocktail named "Harkness on the rocks" and says fucking "Everything is better with a Harkness inside"

i mean, just read the latest VORTEX entries. they didn't just predict ("predict", of course i mean "write about just before they became extremely relevant", all jokes aside i think if they were psychic they'd be doing some of the stuff less :'D) the pandemic, the anti-vaxxers, hate speech and other social media phenomenon - but also increasingly powerful AIs (ChatGPT says hello), and the war in Ukraine. no, really. well, not the war exactly, but the phenomenon of people ceasing to care about it. what they meant, of course, was the one that began in 2014 - only that it also works for this one now as it's moving further and further back in people's minds.

you know i can see what real world stuff this is based on (both conspiracies and actual possibilities and everything in-between), i'm used to this (Black Mirror says hello), but every once in a while TW drops terrifying one-liners like that and i'm like. is this real?

I don’t l know how to vote on the poll because I think the show ends with COE but also some things after that are still canon

I think that’s totally normal and most people would maybe even agree. I know I do. I’ve already said that I essentially take all of the Big Finish monthlies to be canon even though for me it ends at Children Of Earth.

I also see things from post COE as canon even though I don’t see the stories. Gwen and Rhys having a daughter called Anwen. Jack’s relationship with Angelo. I’d even go so far as to say the entire plot of Cuckoo. It’s not quite as black and white as the poll would suggest.

Honestly if you selectively cut Jack and Gwen out of all of The Story Continues I’d call it canon. Obviously the entire plot would change so that’s not possible, but great swaths of the story could find their way in there.
