my top 10 songs from august
bit of an iregular one for this month. it's not the last day and I haven't stopped listening to music yet, but I'm moving in two days and I'm extremely busy, so here we go.
1. Overwhelmed by Ryan Mack Remix
this song describes the way I've been feeling lately perfectly. sadly, I'm in a very bad place mentally, constantly fighting my demons and ADHD isn't helping me with any of this.
2. hostage by Billie Eilish
this one somehow became the one that represents love the most for me. I know it's not intended to be a fun, happy little love song but it reminds me the strange ways I have and have been loved before. it is safe and comforts me.
3. Constellations by Jade LeMac
I've watched the first tiktok snippet of this song and have been waiting ever since. it's real special to me because I've been planning a tattoo for the last four years and I'm finally getting it next friday! (actually two tattoos, one of them is the Cassiopeia constellation, but more about this in a future post!)
4. Change my clothes by Dream & Alec Benjamin
been a huge fan of Alec since spring, 2019 & one of Dream's since autumn, 2019, so it was evident, that I'll like this song. I was so right, it is something real special, especially for me. I'm proud of them.
5. Drifting by NF
this month I made huge changes. I started to talk to my friends about the shit I'm going through, and at a party it slipped out of my mouth, that I've attempted suicide once before. this song helps me to cope with shit like this and makes me stronger every time I listen to it. and even though there are still loads that I can't talk about, I'm on my way to become something even more.
"It's not a secret, I'm a puzzle, got a lot of missin' pieces Underneath this strong persona I put on's a kid that's screamin"
6. Oliver Twist by ArrDee
some days are harder than others, and this song just helps me get out of bed on even the hardest ones. listening to this while I'm on my way in the city just makes everything so much easier. always puts a smile on my face!
7. I Miss The Rage by Majetso Mixer, Mario Judah
this is hyping me up real good. I am so productive when listening to this song. I can channel my inner (usually hiding) anger into productive shit. a real special one!
8. Mum by Luke Hemmings
"I'm so heavy, jump into my ocean. Can't you see me sinking? Love the fear of falling. Don't you know I'm too young? Won't you hear me calling you? Nothing hurts me now"
that's it. all of it. pure gold.❤︎
9. Playing Dangerous by Blu Shore
this is a random song, I accidentally put it on my playlist but it's so good, I can't stop listening to it. the storytelling-perspective is always a great choice for me.
10. @ my worst by blackbear
this one... it hurts real bad. some days I feel like I've became the thing I fear the most: the worst version of myself. I've been treated like shit for the biggest part of my life, and I'm afraid, I'll become toxic and I'll hurt people just like these people hurt me before... yep.
and because we had such a great month with so many new songs, I'll make a seperate post with the honorable mentions!

Green Day’s Top 10 Best Songs
Tumblr media
Hey there!
I recently had this random idea of starting a blog, inspired mainly by my absolute love of music.
I’m the kind of person that feels the need to listen to every single song ever released – as impossible as it may seem – and I’m always on the lookout for new music. Also, whenever I discover a song/album/artist/band I think it’s exceptionally great and that in my opinion deserves way more recognition, I make it my business to encourage every person I know to give them a listen.
So, whether you feel the same way as I do about music or enjoy exploring new genres, this is the place for you! Welcome!
Let’s get started.
Tumblr media
First thing I’d like to recommend to y’all is this iconic band I’m sure everyone’s heard about: Green Day. If you ever thought about getting into them, but didn’t know where to begin, here I have for you a list of their top 10 best songs.
Enjoy!
  10.- Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Number 10 on this list has got to be Boulevard of Broken Dreams, the second single from the American Idiot album. Its lyrics are from the perspective of someone feeling lonely/depressed who’s trying to take power from that fact, which is of course an issue a lot of people can relate to. This combined with the powerful musical elements are what has made it so popular and one of Green Day's signature songs.
9.- 21 Guns
Another of Green Day’s most popular songs, it’s the second single from the 21st Century Breakdown album and it addresses the topic of patriotism. Musically it isn’t as “punk rock” as you’d expect, nonetheless I’m sure it will captivate your ear instantly with the sound of Billie’s acoustic guitar and his soft singing. In a nutshell, I’d say it’s a cell phones-in-the-air anthem worth praising.
8.- Brain Stew
Brain Stew has got to be for sure their most underrated track ever, which is such a shame! Alongside the song Jaded it constitutes the third single from the album Insomniac. The song is about Billie dealing with insomnia. The only reason it isn’t higher on the list is it’s a teensy-tiny bit monotone, but when you push past it… brilliant, just brilliant.
7.- Bang Bang
Bang Bang was released as the lead single from their twelfth studio album, Revolution Radio. Regarded as combining elements of the band's early punk rock days with themes from their politically motivated later albums, the song was inspired by the events of mass shootings in the United States and is written from the viewpoint of a mass shooter. Apart of the powerful message, the instrumental part is just, everything. Strongly recommend the live version, which I believe to be the best in most cases.
6.- Letterbomb
It’s hard to explain the greatness of this song, part of the American Idiot album. All that comes to mind is how freaking amazing is when played live, so go watch the video and you’ll see what I mean ;-)
5.- Forever Now
youtube
Eleventh song of Green Day’s newest album, Revolution Radio, for some the album's most ambitious track, for me the most underrated, it clocks in at nearly seven minutes. Beginning with the lyric "My name is Billie and I'm freaking out" that Billie himself has called "the most honest line I've ever written”, it ends with the refrain "I ain't gonna stand in line no more", which I just love! It's like, I'm not going to accept the status quo or I'm not going to be manipulated anymore. Overall, highly recommended.
4.- Longview
youtube
Longview is the debut single on the band's third album, Dookie, and it mainly describes intense boredom. Lyrically, the song is about a day spent sitting around the house, doing absolutely nothing of importance, masturbating, and smoking marijuana until the days are no longer fun. Fun fact is that the famous bass line intro to this song was written one night while Mike was high on LSD. Needless to say, it’s brilliant! I truly believe the instrumental part is what really makes the difference with this song.
3.- Hitchin’ A Ride
youtube
Hitchin’ a Ride is Nimrod’s first single and it’s about the alcoholism suffered by Billie Joe prior to the album. It’s kinda sad for this masterpiece to be forced to settle for third place on this list, cause it’s just magnificent. Think I’m exaggerating? Please have a listen before judging.
2.- Holiday
youtube
In second place is no other than the iconic “anthem”, Holiday, one of the two explicitly political songs on the American Idiot album. The song takes aim at American conservatism and has been characterized as an outspoken "fuck you" to then-President George W. Bush. Who can’t get on board with that message, am I right?
1.- Jesus Of Suburbia
youtube
I know there’s a lot of people out there that are bothered when the most popular and “mainstream” song by a band is excessively praised, but you need to let me have this. Jesus Of Suburbia is Green Day’s best song, in every way possible. How often do you get a single being over 9 minutes long and as successful as this one? That fact’s gotta tell you something! It’s difficult to pinpoint what makes this track so appealing but if I had to guess, I’d say the story it tells. I ain’t saying more cause I think the song speaks for itself. So you need to listen and judge for yourself.
:-)

Top 10 Songs of 2017, Pt. 1
I’ve been doing private lists of my favorite songs of the year for about 5 years now, but this will be the first put online. Consider it a time capsule I can look back on in ten years and question my music tastes. For these lists, I’ve come up with a couple rules that I’ve followed fairly well so far: 1) Because there’s usually one or two albums that absolutely hook me per year, one appearance per band (can’t have two songs by the same artist on the list), and 2) unless I don’t realize it, the song has to be released that year (i.e. single released in 2016, album in 2017, is eligible for the 2016 list, but not for 2017)
#10) The Beaches - Back Of My Heart
youtube
I’ve never heard of The Beaches before November. They opened for Death From Above when I went to see them in Detroit, and this is the song that really got the crowd into it, and is the song that stuck with me from their show. A Toronto-based all-female rock band with a 70s/early 80s glam-rock/punk twist, I’m hoping they continue to put stuff out. I’m excited for their future.
#9) Royal Blood - Lights Out
youtube
Another band that I took a liking to with their first album in 2015, I was surprised to find out they were a two piece band, and with that, strictly drum and bass. I’m in love with this sound, and that love has only gotten stronger with age. They play with a lot of power. I was addicted to this song the first half of 2017, so it’s only right they make the list.
#8) Pickwick - Turncoat
youtube
This was the first song I discovered when I was subscribed to Amazon Unlimited in the summer. Again, I had never heard of Pickwick until that point, but I have fallen in love with the neo-funk sound that has become prevalent over the last couple years. This song hooked me as soon as I heard it, and has been in rotation since.
#7) Queens of the Stoneage - Feet Don’t Fail Me
youtube
QOTSA has been around almost all of my life. They’re a band that I grew up with, and really expanded my love of rock n’ roll in my formative years. Even after all this time, they still know how to kick ass. This album didn’t give me the same feeling as their previous one, but all be damned if they didn’t start it with a bang. That build-up melted me when I first heard it.
#6) Big Boi - Kill Jill ft. Killer Mike & Jeezy
youtube
I loved Outkast way back when. That said, while I’ve liked Big Boi’s solo career, I’ve never been blown away by anything he’s put out since then. Enter this track. As a Run The Jewels junkie, Killer Mike starting this track, and essentially the album, was definitely the right move. Sure, the beat, the aggressiveness, is what carries the track, but who would’ve known one of the biggest bangers of the year would sample Hatsune Miku?
