Glen Powell is not working his ass off to bring romantic tension and visible yearning back to movies only for his kissing scenes to be left on the cutting room floor!

Rooster: Mav’s a good man, if you ignore all the things he does on purpose and concentrate on all of the things he does by accident.

having a conversation about top gun and the person I’m talking to can’t remember rooster’s name to save their life, so they’re just calling him ‘pretty boy’ over and over. I am immensely entertained. I’m not going to correct them.

Here I am just thinking about a Top Gun Maverick Armageddon AU because if NASA can teach oil drillers to be astronauts that means they can teach Naval Aviators to be oil drillers….. and then astronauts

Never going to write it because I can’t write anything anymore but it’s fun to think about!

hi!! very excited about your next batch! but i was wondering if you ever think of posting some of the (wonderful) female!mav scenes you wrote (the question mark on my computer decided to stop working but this is indeed a question)
have a great weekend!!
yeah sure! again— this isn’t finished and never will be finished, I posted the reasons below. But here are a bunch of snippets from the fem!mav/lesbian charliemav AU from this summer. Would love to hear your thoughts, because politically it gave me some pause! lol.
1. On how mav survives (the central motif of the one-shot is Mav cutting her hair with scissors which is why the emphasis here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. On ice (straight icemav will never work because fundamentally ice is a misogynistic cunt)
Tumblr media
3. on sex with girly girls (one of life’s greatest pleasures)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ehhh you get the picture of what’s under the cut
4. on charliemav
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. on charlie
Tumblr media
7. The end (post Layton mission [mav proving herself by saving ice’s life] and the end of TG86, Mav gearing up to cut her hair again in Charlie’s house)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here, copy-pasted, were the tags i planned to affix to the charliemav one-shot, which I think explain also why I stopped writing it—maverick is insanely out of character here!
“some discussion of issues that would affect a female pilot in the 1980s in this one: SA, sexism, etc. u have been warned / i would love to talk to anyone about the politics of this one cause hoo boy i had to think about it / it’s a little personal to me too / i wouldn’t necessarily say i struggle with my gender identity but i do have a really complicated relationship with it / i think this mav is incredibly out of character / it turns out mav’s thoughtless overperformance of masculinity is so ingrained into his character that / if you make it intentional he/she turns into an entirely different character. / i often struggle with writing maverick way way too bitter (there’s something very gentle about tgm mav I struggle replicating) / & this is a VERY bitter & cynical & calculating mav as well. she has to be. But i fear i lose some of mav’s original character in the cynicism. 🤷🏽‍♀️ / that’s why i struggle writing AUs—you lose so much of the original characters who are DEFINED by the stories they’re from / if that makes sense. / i think a female maverick isn’t maverick. / you might as well be writing original fiction at that point. / this 1 shot is pretty much just original fiction. / idk would love to hear ppls thoughts on the fandom philosophy behind AUs / something i would love to think about more / top gun fanfiction / charlotte charlie Blackwood / pete maverick mitchell / Tom iceman kazansky/ nick goose bradshaw / genderbent top gun / charliemav / in this universe mav and Charlie break up and mav gets back together with Penny according to the tgm timeline btw / TGM mav might as well be a lesbian like nothing really has to change in the script at all. / post 2010 tom cruise just gives lesbian. no change necessary / soundtrack for this one is ‘I have a woman inside my soul’ by yoko ono”
I also stopped writing this one because I could not for the life of me figure out how to write goose, canonically a sexist just like mav and ice. made things difficult and a little awkward

🤠👶🏾🐓 Life as We Know It AU🤠👶🏾🐓
Tumblr media
Jake Seresin is the owner of a small but successful bakery, and Bradley Bradshaw is a promising television technical sports director for the San Diego *whatever sports team*.
A few years ago, they were set up by their navy pilot best friends, Natasha Trace and Javy Machado, on a blind date that went so terribly wrong they vowed to hate the other forever and never see each other again.
Or not…because their best friends got married and had a beautiful baby boy, Bob (named after Nat’s WSO, of course). They also chose Bradley and Jake to be their son’s godparents.
Unfortunately, Bobby becomes an orphan at the tender age of one as his parents both die on a secret mission. While they grieve for their best friends, Jake and Bradley learn their friends named them Bob's joint guardians. After finding that none of Natasha and Javy’s relatives are fit to take care of their son, Jake and Bradley put their differences aside and move into their godson's family home.
It seems living together in their deceased friends’ home while raising their son and working full time is quite the challenge for Bradley and Jake. Especially when a Child Protective Services caseworker, Beau Simpson, is assigned to their case to see if they are fit to be Bob’s parents. To add a bit of drama, the two men start to mutually-idiotically pine for one another, and there is also a handsome doctor who is very eager to seduce Jake and happens to be Bob’s pediatrician too…

Au where Jake doesn't only take Bradley or the Dagger squad down in Texas but Ice and Mav too because he wants his parents to meet the people that chose to adopt him when his own biological parents could barely stand him. "See? These people who had no business in caring about me or what I like or even just liking me decided I was worth it. Me. Not my name. Not my callsign or the number of airborne kills. Me. For myself." Jake would like to scream or even just point out to them, over dinner, but Mav blocking his dad from filling his glass with beer speaks louder than he could ever do.

Hello! I just wanted to drop a message your way that thanks to your posts/reblogs on Top Gun: Maverick I have watched the movie and fallen into an Ice/Mav hyperfixation that has been FEEDING me this past week, thank you for the good times A+ I've been sleeping so late reading fic lately. :)
Yessssssssss :DDD two months after watching the movies I'm still obsessed with them, and I'm glad you enjoy their dynamic as well! IceMav canonically encompasses so many tropes, like there's the TG rivals leading to "omg they were wingmen" era, you can have them as active combat pilots or the later years when Ice is an admiral plus the whole guardian angel thing, if you want angst you have post-Goose/PTSD/cancer angst, there's found family fluff with both the 86 crew and the Bradshaws and later with the dagger crew, and if that's not enough there's a whole 30+ year gap where fandom can play around with practically everything, and of course the "everyone lives/no one dies" AUs. Honestly, we can fit sooooooooo much in with this pairing.
I hope you got the chance to watch the OG Top Gun as well, because the amount of tension between Ice and Maverick in that movie? Wow. Staring at each other across the lecture room aisle for solid minutes. Sweaty guys in a locker room snapping their teeth and getting into each other's faces. The Hug (tm). TGM breaks my heart with all the tender and heart wrenching IceMav moments; OG Top Gun is where all the sexual tension is at haha.
