Top 10 Travel Trends for the Next Decade
Travel, like every other facet of modern life, is perpetually evolving. As we look ahead, numerous emerging trends promise to redefine how we explore, experience, and connect with the world. Whether you're a digital nomad, a leisure traveler, or someone looking to break into the travel industry, here are the top ten travel trends that are set to dominate the next decade.
1. Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Travel
With increased awareness about global environmental concerns, sustainable travel is not just a trend; it's becoming a necessity.
Stay: Eco-resorts and green hotels will see a surge in popularity.
Explore: Carbon-neutral tours and eco-friendly transportation will be in demand.
Consume: Local and organic cuisines will take center stage.
2. Microcations: The Rise of Shorter Getaways
Instead of annual two-week vacations, travelers are leaning towards multiple short breaks throughout the year.
Weekend Retreats: Quick weekend getaways to rejuvenate.
City Breaks: Exploring urban landscapes for short bursts of time.
3. Experiential and Immersive Travel
Travelers are increasingly looking for authentic experiences over traditional sightseeing.
Cultural Immersion: Staying with local families, participating in local rituals.
Learning Journeys: Trips focused on acquiring a new skill or hobby, like pottery in Japan or winemaking in Italy.
4. Tech-Integrated Travel
As technology continues its pervasive influence, it's set to redefine the travel landscape.
Augmented Reality (AR): Interactive AR city guides that overlay information on attractions.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI-driven personal travel assistants offering tailored recommendations and plans.
5. Health and Wellness Tourism
The nexus of travel and wellness is strengthening, with many looking to merge relaxation, health, and exploration.
Wellness Retreats: Resorts focusing on holistic well-being, offering programs like yoga, meditation, and detox.
Adventure Wellness: Combining physical activities like hiking, kayaking, or cycling with wellness retreats.
6. Solo Travel
Empowered by technology and a globalized world, more individuals are setting out to explore on their own.
Solo-friendly Accommodations: Hostels and hotels catering specifically to solo travelers.
Solo Travel Groups: Communities connecting solo travelers for shared experiences.
7. Space Tourism: The Final Frontier
What was once science fiction is becoming a reality. With companies like SpaceX and Virgin Galactic, space tourism is on the horizon.
Suborbital Flights: Short trips providing a few minutes of weightlessness and an unbeatable view of Earth.
Space Hotels: Plans for orbiting hotels offer a glimpse into a not-so-distant future.
8. Remote Workcations
The rise of remote work is blending the boundaries between work and vacation.
Digital Nomad Destinations: Places with robust internet connectivity, coworking spaces, and a conducive environment for work and relaxation.
Long-term Stays: Extended accommodation packages catering to remote workers.
9. Personalized and Tailored Travel
Generic, one-size-fits-all travel packages are giving way to highly personalized experiences.
AI-Powered Itineraries: Algorithms analyzing personal preferences to craft bespoke travel plans.
Interactive Apps: Travel apps that adapt recommendations based on real-time user feedback.
10. Under-tourism: Exploring the Unexplored
To combat overtourism, there’s a shift towards promoting less-visited destinations.
Alternative Destinations: Promoting areas similar to popular spots but less frequented.
Educated Travel: Encouraging tourists to visit in off-peak seasons or spreading out visits throughout the year.
Conclusion
The next decade promises to be an exciting era for travel, replete with innovation, deeper experiences, and renewed perspectives. It offers an opportunity for travelers to be more conscious, for businesses to be more innovative, and for destinations to be experienced in unprecedented ways.
Whether you're trekking into space, diving deep into local cultures, or taking a rejuvenating microcation, the future of travel is bright and expansive. As the famous saying goes, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." The coming decade promises many more pages of captivating stories, thrilling adventures, and transformative experiences. Happy traveling!

First Quarter Review: A Goal Check in With Myself
At the start of the year I made 10 “Big Picture” Goals. After the first three months of the year, here is an update on my progress.
I am doing this to keep track of goals, update the goals, provide myself with some recognition, check in with myself, celebrate my accomplishments, reevaluate goals, and hold myself accountable.
1. Keep track of Monthly spending
Initially (early January) I made an excel document to keep a running tab of bills that I would be splitting with Chris. Now, I have been spending like crazy. This is a goal I need to work on. Having my fixed costs in one organized place is a good start, but I am not holding myself to a budget. Moving forward, I would like to prioritize my spending on needs and wants and also savings.
Just checked in on my 401k and I have saved over 10G’s. Looks like retiring by 60 could be in the cards for me 8D, so that’s a great accomplishment.
2. Get a promotion/raise
I got a 3% raise in March. Which is a good start. I had an in depth conversation with my boss about getting a promotion and think I am on the right track to getting there. I will continue to work hard at my job, step outside of my comfort zone, and learn new things to advance my career.
I have also started an Etsy shop and have officially started profiting from my sales, so I’d like to note that!
3. Run a 5K non-stop
I have not ran a single time this quarter. I did however start walking 10+ miles per week. I think that is a good start, but I need to start pushing myself harder.
4. Do something charitable each month
In January I didn’t do anything. In February I mailed in my hair for children with hair loss and donated several bags of clothing and household items. In March I signed up and had conversations with the Children’s home to volunteer with the orphans.
5. Emphasize Self Care/Love one “Me day” per month
I have had at least one me day per month. In January I went to a pottery studio, celebrated my birthday, took a bubble bath, and journaled. In February I started an Etsy shop, became fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and journaled. In March, I got my nails done, spent time with friends and family after Chris broke up with me, went to Florida, started doing more physical activity, and started this blog.
My Journey for self love is going stronger than ever and for that I am very proud of myself. I will continue to choose myself, do things that I enjoy, say yes to me, take myself out on dates, and treat myself with kindness and love.
6. Build a garden, develop landscaping, make outside of the house pretty
I have a different garden flag for each month to make my house look cute, I have been collecting sticks/leaves/yard debris and burning them. My dad and I built 2 raised garden beds so that I can start my veggie patch when it gets warmer. The daffodils I planted are flowering and look really nice. My dad and I pruned the trees in my yard. I made a plan for getting top soil and grass seed to grow a better lawn. I’ve been building pinterest boards for landscaping projects and doing research on the best plants for MI.
Because first quarter is so cold, I was really only able to plan for this goal. I think I exceeded that by the yard work I did with my dad and by building raised garden beds.
7. Less consumption/waste
I bought a compost bin in January. I compost what I can and have been doing a lot of research on how to live more sustainably. I use reusable grocery bags, recycle, use food wraps instead of single use plastics, and try to limit food waste. This is an area that I can always improve on. I will continue to research more sustainable ways of life and do my best to bring them into action for myself.
8. Stay up to date with current affairs
I get a daily newsletter sent to my email that lists different topics that are going on in the world. But that’s about all I do. I should start to read the news more often and learn about what is going on around me. I feel a little conflicted about this goal because my doctor told me I shouldn’t watch the news because most of it is negative and will not help my mood.
9. Meditate 150 sessions.
For the 1st quarter, I logged 36 sessions with the calm app. I am on a good pace for reaching this goal for the year, but need to take it more seriously and make this a more permanent part of my daily routine. I have been doing really great with daily affirmations. I wake up, stretch, and compliment myself. I also started ending each day with a reflection on the things that I liked about myself for that day. I’ve also been trying to focus on my spiritual journey and coming to peace with that everything happens for a reason, that I need to learn to trust in the universe and be present in the moment. I am getting a better grasp on this practice and though it isn’t meditation by definition, it’s still a process that has the same results.
10. Get accepted into a graduate program
I submitted my *complete application to Central in January. I am waiting to hear back from them. I mentioned it to all of my loved ones and have their support. I will look up other programs and maybe apply to them as well.

Tumblr media
Who is that man talking to Namjoon by the desk? You’ve never seen him before, but as you look him up and down, you definitely like what you see. Dark, wavy hair with blond streaks flops over his finely-drawn eyebrows. The man’s eyes appealingly crinkle as he beamed at your art teacher, showing off a wide, heart-shaped grin.  He looks a bit short standing next to Namjoon--but who doesn’t, next to that tree of a man? More importantly, his loose hoodie and baggy yellow shorts reveal swathes of honey skin and lean muscle. He has the look of a dancer, slender but powerful. Your eyes catch on his exposed thighs (those shorts were really rather short, weren’t they?). Damn, those are truly something to behold. You’d never considered yourself a leg woman before, but those yellow shorts are changing your outlook.
As you drag your appreciative gaze back up his body and face (was that a freckle on his top lip?), you realize Yellow Shorts is looking right back at you. You get lost in his dark brown eyes for a moment until it dawns on you that you’ve just been busted checking this gorgeous man out. His smile grows impossibly wider as your cheeks grow hot. Damn your easy blushes.
You quickly break eye contact, busying yourself with digging through your leather satchel, pretending to look for your pencils. Your hands are actually trembling a bit, and you can feel your heart pounding. How can a 5-second eye lock have such an effect on you? Yellow Shorts is still talking to Namjoon, but every time you accidentally look in their direction (who are you kidding? Your stare is drawn to him like you're magnetized), you can feel the weight of his gaze on you.
Suddenly, Namjoon breaks the tension by clapping his hands together, drawing the attention of everyone sitting at their easels. You turn your attention towards your teacher, but out of the corner of your eyes, you notice Yellow Shorts slipping away towards the screen in the corner of the studio. Is he the model for tonight? You could only be so lucky.
“Hey guys, welcome to week three! Glad you could all make it out on this rainy evening.” Namjoon addresses the class, a dimple appearing in his right cheek as he smiles. “By now, you’re all pretty familiar with the drill, right? We’ll start off with 5 minutes of quick warm-up sketches, and then move into some 10-minute poses. 15 minute coffee break at the hour mark, and then we’ll do a 45-minute pose. Sound good?” He nudges his black-rimmed glasses up his nose as your classmates murmur their agreement.
As you pull your sketchbook out of your bag, you think back to how you’d ended up in this studio in the first place.
---
You’d just ended an 18-month long relationship a few months prior. It was a reasonably amicable breakup--no cheating or dramatics. You had just… fallen out of love. In fact, you weren’t sure if you were ever actually in love. Your relationship had quickly fizzled out of the honeymoon stage, so towards the end, you were in a rut of watching bad tv together on the couch nightly, your ex playing Overwatch on his laptop while you browsed Twitter on your phone. Your sex life wasn’t any more interesting--you hadn’t even “Overwatch and chilled” in quite a while. One night, you looked over at him and realized you had no desire to do this for the next 40 years, and told him it was over. He shrugged, barely looking up from his game.
However, no matter how boring it had been towards the end, it had been comfortable companionship, so your apartment now seemed empty at night. Even the stereotypical post-breakup gym routine couldn’t fill the hours, although you had never looked better. You thought about getting back into the dating game, but the selection of men on the apps was, to put it lightly, terrible.
One night, you were out at a bar with your best friend getting wine-drunk and complaining about your boredom. Ashley took a long sip of her drink before looking at you over her glass. “You know what you need? You need a hobby. And no, Twitter and Tinder don’t count.”
“Twitter is a perfectly valid hobby. I’m keeping up on the latest political news and memes! Plus did you see the latest posts from Mark Ruffalo? That guy is a genius.” You drained the last of your glass and looked around for the server. You needed another drink.
Ashley scoffed. “You’re not even keeping up with politics. You’re getting into flamewars with people over the latest episode of the Bachelorette.” Damn. Your best friend knew you too well. She turned her head and effortlessly flagged the server over while checking her watch. Twenty minutes left for happy hour specials. “Hi, can we get two more glasses of the rosé please?”
You resisted the urge to check your Twitter account and incur more of Ashley’s scorn. “What do you suggest, then?”
“My coworker, you know the one that had the breakdown after she walked in on her husband fucking the babysitter?” Ashley paused as the server dropped off the fresh drinks.  You nodded--that was a juicy story you wouldn’t be forgetting anytime soon. “Anyway, she started taking art classes at the rec center. She does everything from pottery to watercolors. Apparently, her psychologist recommended it, but she loves it. She never stops talking about how healing it’s been.”
You wrinkled your nose. “The rec center? I thought those classes were for kids and senior citizens.”
“She did mention there are a lot of old people in her classes. But get this--the drawing teacher was this really hot Korean guy. With dimples.” Ashley gave you a meaningful look. She really did know you too well.
“Ehh… art class? I don’t know if that’s really my thing. I haven’t touched a sketchbook in years.” You had actually been a decent artist in high school, but had dropped it in college as you got wrapped up in your classes and parties. You honestly couldn’t remember the last time you’d done anything artistic, outside of mandatory bridesmaid crafting duties for bridal showers and bachelorette parties.
“Hot. Korean. Guy. With. Dimples.” Wine splashed out of Ashley’s glass as she jabbed your finger at you for emphasis. “Plus, getting some culture could be healing for you. It worked for Jessica. You really need to get out of the apartment more.”
You gently grabbed Ashley’s glass, rescuing the wine from her flailing and promptly. pouring it down your throat. “I’ll think about it.” You weren’t going to think about it. There was no way you were going to take an art class with a bunch of senior citizens, even with the lure of a hot instructor.
Two drinks later for each of you, Ashley was squinting at your credit card, trying to type the numbers into the rec center’s shitty website on her phone. “Boom, you’re signed up. Class starts Monday so you’d better get your supplies this weekend.”
In your rosé-induced haze, what you hadn’t realized is that Ashley had signed you up for a figure drawing class. You were in for a double shock when you walked into the rec center 10 minutes late that first Monday night. The first shock, that the teacher, Namjoon, really was that hot (with fantastic dimples)--and the second shock, that there was a nude middle-aged man posing on a couch on a small stage.
Much to your surprise (and Ashley’s smugness), the figure drawing class really was enjoyable. Namjoon was a great teacher--patient and encouraging--and you’d forgotten how good it felt to create something rather than just passively consuming media. You’d even gotten used to the nudity as you focused on capturing the model in efficient pencil strokes in your sketchbook. Your first few figure sketches were horribly amateur, but you soon got caught up in the art, and the first two classes had flown by. The second week’s model had been a young college-aged woman with the most amazing tiger tattoo covering her back, which had been a lot of fun to draw. You had been looking forward to what week three would bring, but you had no idea what was really in store for you.
---
As you finish setting out your pencils and erasers, you notice motion from the corner of the room again. The hot guy from earlier emerges from behind the screen… and he's no longer wearing the shorts, but is wrapped in a knee-length gray robe. Oh holy shit, he really is the model for the night. One of your pencils goes flying out of your suddenly-clammy grip and clatters across the floor, rolling to a stop in front of Yellow Shorts. Your face bursts into flames again.
His face scrunches up into a warm smile. “Oops! You might need this.” He bends over (don’t look at his ass, don’t look at his ass), scoops the pencil up, and saunters over to your desk.  The pencil appears in your line of vision where you're staring fixedly down at your sketchbook. Slowly, you look up and meet his twinkling eyes. His smile doesn’t dim as you stare blankly up at him and the little dimples in his cheeks, but he waves the pencil in front of you again. Your attention caught by his hands, you suddenly notice how long and elegant his fingers are. He wears a silver ring on his middle finger, and a delicate chain on his wrist.
As if in a dream, you finally take the pencil from him. Your hand brushes his. His fingers are warm and dry, but you feel your breath catch at the light touch. He drags a fingertip across your palm as he lets go of the pencil. Your eyes snap up to his, which look decidedly darker. But his light tone of voice doesn’t match his eyes as he simply says, “Here you go! Please use it to draw me well!” He turns away to join Namjoon in front of the stage.
Namjoon chuckles quietly. “Everyone, this is Hoseok, our model for tonight. Some of you might know him already. He’s the dance teacher here at the rec center, but moonlights as an art model in his free time.” A dancer, of course. That explains the muscle. Your blush still hasn’t gone down and your palm is still tingling as you try not to stare at his toned legs. Namjoon turns to Hoseok and claps him on the shoulder. “We’ll start with the 5-minute warmup first, so just change your pose every time you hear the timer beep.”
Yellow Shorts--Hoseok--nods cheerfully. “Aye aye, boss!” He steps up on the stage and unceremoniously shrugs out of his robe, laying it to one side and sitting down on the chaise lounge. All of the blood that had previously been in your cheeks is now rushing down to lower parts as you’re treated to an uninterrupted view of his sinuous body. He’s perfect. His collarbones catch the light as he turns his face to the side, revealing a sharp profile. His biceps flex lightly as he lowers himself down on one elbow, accentuating the line from his elegant shoulders to his narrow waist. A very defined v-line draws your eyes from his lean abs to his relaxed cock resting on one of his gorgeous thighs. You subtly squeeze your legs together under your desk at the sight. Shit, even his dick is perfect. You genuinely think your heart might stop--but what a way to go.
Suddenly, your lustful reverie is broken by the sound of the timer going off, indicating that a minute in the quick sketch period had gone by and it’s time for Hoseok to switch poses.  You haven’t drawn a single line in your sketchbook yet. You’re fucked.

Change of Pace - Prologue
Tumblr media
cowritten by @achinglyshawn
summary: Shawn and Maya meet again 10 years after life got in the way of love
warnings: language
wc: 2.1k
--------------
“Don’t you want to?”
“Want to what?”
“Kiss me.”
He laughs, cheeks pink. “Well, yeah. I thought that was pretty obvious.”
“Just checking.” Her grin is cheshire.
“Been thinking about kissing you for a while, actually.”
“Maybe you should get on with it then.”
He always wakes up before the kiss. It’s bittersweet. He wants the fantasy, but he also knows no dream can compare to the reality of it.
He won’t tell his therapist about the dream, even though it’s the fifth time he’s had it this month. His therapist doesn’t know about her though, and Shawn doesn’t really feel like talking about her. He doesn’t want to wade through the sharp static of his memories to pick out the relevant information. It’s better left as is; he’s gotten good at compartmentalizing.
He blinks at the ceiling and waits for his alarm to go off. He always wakes up first, but never drags himself away from the warmth of his duvet until Taylor Swift tells him to.
‘If you can see I'm the one who understands you, been here all along so why can't you see, you belong with--’
One by one, the joints in his spine crackle as he sits up and smashes “Stop” on his phone with the pad of his thumb. Taylor quiets, and now all he can hear is the annoyingly chipper twitter of birds outside his window.
His shower is hot, too hot, scalding, but he likes it. He likes the shock to his system first thing in the morning. He likes the burn of reality, the zing of clarity that cuts through any dream-like remnants still hazy in his mind.
Geoff bangs on his door as he’s pulling boxers on, his toothbrush hanging out of his mouth.
“Wha’?” he calls, grabbing the brush and working on his molars as he opens the door.
“Starbucks trip, dude,” Geoff says, swinging his car keys around his index finger.
Shawn hums, jerks his head towards the bathroom then goes to spit, gargling a mouthful of cool water before emerging once more.
“You think they’d make my latte Irish?” he deadpans as he pulls on some clothes, tight black skinny jeans and a white shirt that says ‘HEAVEN’ across the chest. He thinks it’s funny. He’s definitely not going to heaven, if it’s real.
“Dream again?” Geoff asks as he rests against the doorframe.
“Starting to feel more like a nightmare. Or like. A warning.”
He hears himself. He knows it sounds stupid. But you don’t have a dream like that over and over without developing a sense of impending doom.
Geoff snorts, keeps him grounded with a roll of his eyes. “Yeah like, if you don’t get laid soon your dick might fall off, kind of warning.”
It’s not a sexy dream, but to anyone else Shawn guesses it might sound that way.
He doesn’t want to get into it.
“Stop worrying about my dick and take me to my coffee, driver,” he crows after shoving his wallet into his pocket, pushing Geoff towards the front door.
+++
His blistered fingers tap his phone as he contemplates getting another latte delivered. He doesn’t think coffee is really worth the Postmates delivery fee, but it’s also only 11am and he’s ready to crawl back in bed.
The Cordoba C12 in his lap begs him for a break; he’s been fiddling with it all morning and each time he thinks he’s finished the refurb, he sees another detail that’s just left of perfect.
His work takes time, but the time and care is what makes him the best. And that’s what his clients pay for. The absolute best.
If he’s gonna keep giving this Cordoba the star treatment, he needs more caffeine, but he also needs to get away from the fumes of his shop. He swipes out of the Postmates app and decides to get off his ass.
Sand crunches beneath his Chelsea boots on the sidewalk as he makes his way down the beach to the Starbucks. It’s quiet when he gets there, only a few people tapping away on their laptops as a Top 40s playlist tinkles through the speakers.
Cheri behind the counter knows him, knows a midday visit means he needs a triple shot caffe latte and starts making it before he can even reach the counter.
“I love you,” he rasps when she sets down the coffee in front of him. He hands her a ten and puts his wallet away, because he refuses to ever take change.
She laughs and plucks her tip from the register, slipping it into her back pocket. “No, baby, I love you. No one else tips $4 on a $6 cup of coffee.”
“Guess I’m just a sucker,” he says with a quick wink and a smile.
There’s a girl typing furiously on her laptop at the little table in the window he usually picks, so instead he goes for a walk.
Most people in town don’t wear Chelseas to the beach, but Shawn’s not one of those people who carries around flip flops to change into. Instead, he lets the heels of his boots sink into the gripping sand with each step he takes.
The waves are good today, and Shawn thinks about the board he rarely uses tucked under his bed. He’s not a bad surfer, he can catch a wave or two in the right conditions, but he’s a bit out of practice now because he doesn’t have anyone to surf with anymore. It’s not very fun alone.
He doesn’t think about it.
He sees a surfer in the distance, watches her skim a smaller lick before dropping into the water. After a moment, she resurfaces on her board and paddles her way to the shore.
He’s not quite close enough, but Shawn doesn’t think he recognizes the surfer. He doesn’t recognize her board, anyway, and he’s pretty familiar with the local surfers in the area.
She’s a wave chaser, he figures, someone who travels the coast in search of the best beaches and surfing communities. Avila Beach gets their fair share of them.
Shawn takes a sip of his disappearing coffee and squints at the surfer over the lid of his cup. She emerges from the water, board under arm, and heads for a towel and a beach bag further up the shore. He’ll have to walk around her, eventually.
He watches her dry her hair with a towel she pulls from her bag, and he wonders if she’s done with this part of the beach for the day. Where will she try next? He figures she’ll hate LA if she hasn’t already been. Too crowded, too touristy.
He’s only half paying attention to her as he gets closer, can see her knelt down and fumbling through her bag but not really processing it, too busy thinking of how dirty tourists leave beaches. Avila Beach gets plenty tourists, but it’s nothing compared to the shit you see in LA or San Diego.
Eventually the surfer stands, emphasizing the movement with a flick of her hair that catches his attention, like she’s trying to fling away excess sand. It’s when her hair settles around her shoulders that he really sees her, and his heart stops.
So much for a quiet walk on the beach.
He has no thoughts, no feelings, only panic. Panic that stings the back of his eyes and burns his throat and carries him from the beach to the sidewalk as quickly as possible.
Please don’t see me, please don’t see me, is all he can think as he makes a beeline for his shop, his anxious heart rattling against his ribcage. He makes it to the storefront incident free, but even then his body won’t let him relax.
He almost calls his therapist, but he’d have way too much explaining to do.
He paces in his office and calls his mum instead, lies and says he almost got into an accident, so he’s kind of shaken up. She coos the way mothers do, says she’s glad that he’s okay and reminds him to be careful, and that’s that, really.
He feels better. His mum’s voice always helps.
He has no way to investigate if Maya Lu is really in Avila. There was no such thing as Instagram or Snapchat when they knew each other, and her Facebook hasn’t been active for years. (He hates that he knows that.)
The only thing he can do is tell himself it’s not her. It’s not her. It can’t be her. She’s in New York. Or Vancouver. Or Paris. Or whatever. Wherever she is, it’s not where he is.
Plenty of beautiful, tan, raven haired women like to surf. The woman he saw on the beach is just another one of them. And obviously, his mind filled in her face with Maya’s because of his dream.
That stupid fucking dream. Her face is already haunting him while he sleeps. It only makes sense his mind would start playing tricks on him when he’s awake as well.
So it wasn’t Maya and he doesn’t want it to have been Maya, really, he doesn’t, but he spends the rest of his day looking at the remains of her Myspace anyway.
There’s nothing new, and much of the old is missing, too. Pictures from college, from parties, from the one time they went to Mardi Gras is all gone. Purged when she applied to business internships, probably.
(Pictures of him purged when she left, like remembering him wasn’t even worth it.)
The Córdoba taunts him from his workbench with each click of his trackpad, but he’ll get to it in the morning. John Mayer has plenty other guitars to keep him occupied. Well. It’s not really John Mayer’s guitar, but Shawn likes to pretend.
He pretends a lot these days.
+++
Maya’s eyes close, stinging with sunblock runoff and saltwater that she barely notices. She sits up and breathes, just like her very expensive yoga instructor taught her. She curls her fingers through the water on either side of her surfboard like she’s stroking it — she’s showing it she missed it. It’s an apology, an act of contrition, a show of affection. She’s been missing a lot of things lately. That’s why she’s here. Moving to Avila was a sexy secret daydream of hers since right around her 26th birthday, which coincided with her promotion from assistant portfolio manager to portfolio manager. 80 hour weeks were paying off and bringing her... more 80 hour weeks. So when the nights were long and all she had to show for herself was an enormous park-facing apartment that was totally devoid of personality, she would dream of Avila. She dreamt of a cottage on the beach where the view was the real draw. It would have space for a little makeshift art studio — some easels, maybe a pottery wheel. She’d drive an orange Wrangler with a rack for her surfboard that she’d wax herself and ride every morning. Maybe along with all of that would come someone to share it with. That part of the dream was always fuzzier — the man her imagination gave her was an amalgamation of the few men she’s dated over the years (some more clearly represented than others, to Maya’s annoyance). It’s not that she didn’t want to think about Shawn. She wanted to consider Shawn every once in a while when he popped into her mind and think, oh yes, that was a nice time in my life. She wants to maturely gloss over him like the plastic coverings on the photo albums her mom keeps of her past. What Maya doesn’t want is for it to still fucking hurt. She doesn’t want to think of him as the one that got away. She doesn’t want to believe her best chance at partnership and love and passion has passed her by with a margin of 10 years. That’s an ugly thought and there are no ugly thoughts allowed in the sea. It’s one of Maya’s rules. Baggage is for land, not sea. Maya has not been on this surfboard since she spontaneously ran out of the office during a long lunch break and got on a flight during the worst week of her professional life. It was the first time she came back to Avila after that summer with Shawn. It was when the dream started. Maya’s well-trained fingers sense the change in current tempo. She flattens herself on her board and paddles out, feeling her arms burn in protest from disuse. It feels so fucking good. She hunts the wave down, chasing it like she chased the Avila dream. She made it, she’s here. So it’s time to ride the wave.

UX best practices
Core Web Vitals, or just Web Vitals, are a new set of performance metrics that help highlight aspects of web page development that affect User Experience (UX): page loading, interactivity, and visual stability. Google Core web vitals is set to make Core Web Vitals ranking factors as part of the Page Experience Update some time in 2021.
These metrics center on when certain events complete, including what is interactive or visually affected as these events take place, while pages load until a point of stability relative to user experience. That means score values can change as users interact with your page. You achieve better scores when events occur faster along stop-watch time intervals.
Core Web Vitals are a set of specific factors that Google considers important in a webpage’s overall user experience. Core Web Vitals are made up of three specific page speed and user interaction measurements: largest contentful paint, first input delay, and cumulative layout shift.
In short, Web Core Vitals are a subset of factors that will be part of Google’s “page experience” score (basically, Google’s way of sizing up your page’s overall UX).
A good user experience (UX) is essential for customer loyalty. It doesn’t matter what you sell online; paperclips, consultancy or vintage pottery – customers will desert you if you offer poor customer experience.
Back in the day, it was OK for you only to have a ‘web presence’. Many corporate websites were often like an online business card. They only contained bland corporate information and contact details. Today, though, your website must have a purpose and be functionally organised to meet your goals.
But web users can be fickle. And with so much competition for digital eyeballs, your website needs to be quick to load and easy to navigate.  Today, there is plenty of UX data for how users surf the web – what keeps them on the page and what causes them to reach for the back button.
If UX has been somewhere on your to do list (but never made it to the top), it’s time for you to make a start. UX optimisation drives results – and a recent announcement from Google means that it’s about to factor more in the ranking of your website.
This article looks at the two of the biggest gripes web users have about UX – speed and navigation. Then we’ll finish with how Google intends to measure UX through new metrics it calls ‘Core Web Vitals’.
Implement Best Practices UX for Design
1. Introduction
In a Mendix App Team, the UX Designer’s job is to improve the user experience of applications in as many ways as possible. However, sometimes logical solutions from a development perspective are not the best solutions from a UX perspective. This set of best practices is for UX Designers to think carefully about what they can add to app development process.
2. Do Not Put Everything in a Single Screen
Putting all of the application’s menus, features, and buttons in a single screen is a bad UX practice, but one that is commonly seen. In this scenario, UX Designers and Developers start with a tight interface, but over time they add features that result in a screen full of buttons.
The arguments for putting everything onto a single screen include the following:
“Fewer clicks are needed”
“An overview is created”
“Users hate scrolling”
To a UX Designer, this kind of app looks like a Swiss Army knife with all the tools unfolded, but the only one being used is the bottle opener.
3. Do Not Put Everything in Drop-Down Menus
The arguments for using drop-down menus and packing them full of options often include the following:
“There will be more focus and less clutter”
“It will be easier for the end-user to find what they need”
4. Let the User Know Where They Are in the App
When your app has a consistent design system and brand style, all the pages may start to feel the same to the end-user.
The arguments for using a very consistent design system and brand style may include the following:
“The visual style must be entirely consistent and fully branded”
“Design systems drive design”
“We want efficient use of screen real-estate”
5. Avoid Long Lines and Tiny Text
Writing long lines of text and implementing tiny font sizes is another example of wanting to get the most out of your screen. Arguments for designing like this are some we have seen already:
“Users hate scrolling”
“We want efficient use of screen real-estate”
6. Do Not Double Up the Pop-Ups
Have you ever pressed a button in a mobile app that opens a notification pop-up window, and in that notification there is another button leading to another pop-up window?
The main argument for a UX Designer implementing something like this is the following:
“The user will have more context awareness”
7. Lay Your Cards on the Table
Cards are trending in the UX world at the moment. Single cards are nice, but what about a series of cards in another card?
An argument for implementing such a design would be the following:
“The cards are nested in order to create visual hierarchy”
8. Plan Your Forms Carefully
A UX Designer has to make a lot of decisions about forms. For example, should there be a long list of form inputs? Should the form be broken up in to multiple steps? Or maybe there should be three columns of form inputs, so that they all fit into a single screen?
The main argument for including a lot of form fields in one page is an argument we have seen before:
“Users hate scrolling”
9. Make the Purpose of Each Button Clear
When designing a series of app pages, a UX Designer should employ certain elements on each page that will help an end-user get oriented. As a parallel, you may think that buttons do not need to be consistent, because the end-user only needs to understand the button in the context of a particular page.
An argument for designing buttons inconsistently may be something like this:
“That’s the way Apple and Google do it”
10. Quick Summary
These are the basic UX best practices outlined in this document:
Do not use more than nine buttons on a page
Do not write more than nine words per line in the UI
Only use drop-down menus as a last resort to present options to the end-user
Give every page a header
When a page is more than one level deep, give it breadcrumb
When the end-user has to perform multiple steps, show the steps
Do not place pop-up window in another pop-up window
Do not nest a card in a card
Keep form fields in a single column
Give descriptive names to buttons

1. How has covid affected you? It robbed me of few months’ worth of memories in my last year in college, my graduation, travel plans, employment prospects, a 22nd birthday with friends. Fortunately, other than a mutual friend, I personally don’t know anyone who has gotten the virus.
2. What is a comfort show of yours? Friends, without a doubt. If I need a pick me up I just look up a scene on YouTube and I’m bound to feel better in seconds.
3. Are you open about your past or do you not let anyone in? I’m pretty open about my past as long as people ask the right questions that would make me want to open up that can of worms lol. But I’m very secretive about the present and if I’m currently going through something, I tend to be selfish when it comes to opening up. I don’t like being completely vulnerable, and I leave those last few bits of vulnerability to only myself. I can’t even open up on Tumblr in certain instances; it’s just how I am.
4. Favourite fast food joint? Yellow Cab.
5. Do you think we were put on this earth for a reason? I don’t. I don’t put a lot of thought into this, either. It’s just not something I particularly care about.
6. What is something you have done this year you’re proud of? Finish my thesis. I used to think it was some colossal, nearly-impossible requirement and I never thought I was capable of creating my own. But I got through it and it was such an amazing feeling to see myself and Andrew wrap it up and write our acknowledgments at the very end.
7. Do u ever feel like surveys are usually the same questions? There are definitely questions that come up more often than others, but I’m never super bothered by them. I just try to answer them differently then move on.
8. What were you doing 10 years ago? I was 12, in sixth grade, friendless, suicidal, and was in the biggest mental health slump of my life thus far; so, not doing well.
9. Do you call out Karens when they’re harassing a cashier? I don’t call them out but when it’s my turn to be served, I make it a point to greet them and smile and give them the change, like I do with any cashier – except amplified this time around so they can feel better and not think that every customer is an asshole.
10. Animal crossing, yay or nay? Yay. I don’t play it but I’m certainly not gonna dampen people’s enjoyment by thumbing it down lol. It looks so cute and the challenges look wholesome; that game just can’t hurt anybody haha. But I guess it helps that my favorite characters to play on Mario Kart are Animal Crossing characters, so there’s that.
11. Why do you like to do surveys? It’s a safe space. And I’m very talkative in my head but not in real life, so surveys always serve as an outlet for my thoughts and feelings.
12. Did you ever have a MySpace? I did but I caught they very tail end of its popularity. By the time I joined people were already starting to flock to Facebook, so it wasn’t like I was ever able to do anything fun or worthwhile on Myspace. It was also never as popular in the Philippines too; we were into Friendster a lot more.
13. Do you think breaks are toxic in a relationship? I don’t think things like that work in absolutes. I’m sure breaks work for some, but for others they could also just create more distance and cause a couple to grow apart over time.
14. Do you have a YouTube channel? If no, would you create one? If yes what’s your content? I have one but it’s only so that I can support my favorite channels and subscribe to them, and so that YouTube can tailor my homepage to my interests. If I had to start posting videos, I’d prefer to take it easy and just post chill daily vlogs, nothing that tries too hard; and maybe take part in a taste test every once in a while because I enjoy watching those.
15. Are you a math person? Only up until advanced algebra or geometry. I’ll have to bow out if we have to get into trigonometry or calculus.
16. What’s the worse thing someone has said to you? I’ve been told I was a headache to deal with, heartless, unlovable, ungrateful, lacking a brain. All courtesy of my mom.
17. Have you ever befriended someone because you felt bad? Just once. In Grade 7 there was a new girl who was a bit of a loner, so Gab and I started talking to her so that she wouldn’t be alone during lunch. She didn’t really mix well with us and our dynamic though, so we slowly stopped hanging out with her. I felt bad, but I also didn’t want us to keep faking it with her because it would’ve been unfair to her – at least we tried. I was glad when she finally found her group, which didn’t take long.
18. Would you ever date someone online? I’m not open to it.
19. Have you been ghosted before? Would you ghost someone? I’m pretty sure what I did with Mike is the equivalent of ghosting...oops. I haven’t been ghosted.
20. When do you think things will be normal again? For a second this sounded really accurate about my life and I almost started crying :’’’’)))))) but now I realize you meant to ask about Covid lol. UHHH idk man. I remember back in March thinking this was gonna be over by April, and I had never been more wrong lmao. It’s so hard to tell.
21. Do you watch anime? No.
22. Biggest goal you wanna reach before 2020 is over? Be happy.
23. How old did/do you turn this year? 22.
24. Do you like tiktok? I don’t have the app downloaded but I’ll watch TikTok compilations on Facebook sometimes, and I’ve never had anything bad to say about them. I loooove the ones where people show what they do in their workplace like cleaning laptops, making ice cream cakes, doing pottery, etc., or showing projects that they’ve been working on like cleaning their swimming pool or renovating their bedroom. Those are the most satisfying to watch.
25. Do you ever miss vine? OMG yes. TikTok is entertaining, but the sense of humor that Vine birthed is on another fucking level. Only Vine could’ve made hurricane tortilla, a child, two bros chilling in a hot tub, and no head funny.
26. How are you doing, seriously? Today was one of the easier days. But I’m still hurting. It was just more manageable to breathe today.
27. Is there someone you want to talk to but you know you can’t? Yes.
28. Do you make jokes to cope with your problems? Sometimes, if I’ve already accepted the problem. It’s harder to make light of a situation that I’m still grappling with.
29. Have you ever had someone call you their best friend but you didn’t even consider them a close friend? I don’t think so.
30. Have you ever dealt with a pathological liar? Sure.
31. Long or short surveys? Medium-length to long.
32. If ur in school, are you doing it on zoom or in class? I’m not in school but I can definitely tell you that there aren’t any physical classes happening any time soon, at least in this country. It’s just not safe enough yet.
33. Would you ever have a pet rat? Nope.
34. Favourite memory with your best friend? I like laughing fits with Angela and spending hours at her house doing nothing. With Gabie, I always enjoy eating out with her.
35. Favourite type of content to watch on YouTube? I’ve mentioned them a lot on surveys recently, but it’s definitely Good Mythical Morning. I always turn to them when I’m going through depression so I’m really grateful that they have 1500+ episodes on their main channel and have a bunch of secondary channels with hundreds of videos in each as well. They have no idea how many lives they’ve saved. Other than that, I also like watching Korean reality shows, mukbangs that double as ASMR videos, soothing baking videos, and vlogs from local celebrities heheh.
36. Are you allergic to anything serious? No allergies for me.
37. Dream job? I don’t really have a dream title for now; I just want to eventually end up at the top of the ladder in my chosen career path which is PR.
38. Do you think dreams mean anything? No.
39. Fave clothing brand? Mango or Zara.
40. Do you miss anyone? Painfully.

new year’s resolutions 2019
Okay, we’re here. 2019 New Year Resolutions, baby, let’s do this. *puts on This Year by the Mountain Goats and contemplates goals for like the thirtieth time this year*
2019 Themes - I’ve done yearly themes for at least 3 years now, and these kind of just shape and frame my decision making throughout the year. Last year, the themes were “Travel” and “Investment”. For a while, I really thought that this year’s themes would be “travel” and “building relationships”. For a couple weeks, I thought “well, this is it. I’ve done personal growth centred themes for a while now, this is the year I really want to build better relationships!” But a few weeks in, I can already say that while it was an admirable thought, I don’t know if it’s the right one at the right time (at least, if it stands on its own).
And of course, the reason is my job. I find my job hard. Like, it may not be hard for others, and I feel silly if I state “my job is challenging” when really, I mean “to me, my job is challenging.” And the stress, fear, and insecurity that comes with it has really kind of fucked with my mental health as of late. And I know that because of this shift, I do need to be a bit more aware that I need to take care of myself and my brain (woo! Self-care!) before I can really turn outwards. Rushing myself to create and foster and grow relationships will be just so unbalanced if I can’t bring 80% of my self to the table. So. Yeah.
Themes, eh? 2019 will be “travel” and “put down roots”. Let me explain. Travel is obvious, but Put Down Roots is a combination of my earlier thought (building relationships), but it’s also kind of my personal way of making sure that my foundations are solid. My mental health is in check, and that I’ve got some sturdy roots psychologically, as well as letting them grow and intertwine with the city I live in physically, and the people I am around emotionally. And I need to work on that, and while it is kind of broad, I’m still going to prioritize these different aspects (i.e., I have no shame about putting my self first).
So, onto the resolutions. This year they’re categorized into: work, tangible, space, relationships, self.
THE BIG ONE
1. Put down roots. For so long, I felt like I was going to be going back to Toronto ASAP. I don’t really feel like this will be the case anymore (for a myriad of reasons, albeit I love the city so much and my best friends are still there). So that means that while I’ve always kind of had a mental barrier against putting down roots in Vancouver, this will be the year where I will try. As I mentioned above in the themes, this resolution is not specific. It’s three-pronged: a sturdy mental foundation, a sense of belonging in a place, and a feeling of belonging with people.
WORK
2. Don’t get fired. Honestly, I have a fear of being fired. Imposter syndrome is real, ya’ll, and this role really brings out the beast. I know intellectually that being fired is probably unlikely but my brain also always responds with, “IS IT THOUGH??”.
3. No major fuck-ups (that may lead to being fired and/or my supervisor seriously regretting his decision to hire me). Before I had a fear of fucking up in ANY way. Subtext in this goal is the fact that I DON’T want to be scared of fucking up. I want to be able to move forward, maybe mess up, and feel like my supervisor has my back and will let me fuck up and still let me work and grow and hopefully contribute good things. So, let’s not fuck over my organization, but let’s also recognize that in order to grow, I need to make mistakes, and I want to feel safe enough in my position to make that mistake and know it’s not going to lead to me getting fired (man, this is a lot to ask).
4. Get a professional certification. I will! I promise!
5. Learn to be a better supervisor. I only ‘supervise’ one person, and boy, it’s a bit of a learning experience. I mean, I want to be her friend (maybe that’s the problem here lol), but I also recognize I have to monitor her work (some of which I am not exactly 100% satisfied with), and also teach her a lot, and all this other stuff. I don’t think I’m that good at it, but I really do want to try and be better. Let her learn and grown and be available to answer questions and support her etc. Sigh.
6. Be okay with being uncomfortable at work. Ha. Lean into discomfort, right? I recognize it’ll take a while to feel settled (or, will I EVER feel settled?), but I don’t want to let it get to me. I am making a rule for myself: I can wallow over mistakes or bad events for one day. Then I need to move the fuck on because I have other shit to think about. Do not prolong that suffering! Also, I guess this resolution ties into being uncomfortable around the responsibilities I have, and while I will never feel 100% like I am “doing the right thing”, I can try and lessen my anxiety around it.
TANGIBLE-(ish) 7. Be smart with money. I know, I know, one of my fears is being fired so I want to save as much money as I can before I get fired and inevitably get a job where I earn less. But again, this isn’t about saving a specific dollar amount. I think it is generally about not letting lifestyle inflation become too severe, don’t buy shit I don’t need, and prioritize spending in a way that is aligned with my values. In this case, travel and experiences (of which, I am allowing food/eating out to count).
8. Read 35 books. A yearly target, that seems harder and harder to reach as each year my attention span seems to wane a little bit more.
9. Cook at least 2 times a week. An adulting goal that I want to accomplish. Sigh. Why is cooking so hard?
10. Get an IUD. Honestly, I’m not in a relationship or dating right now, but why not right. I don’t want a baby in the next 5 years, and my friends have gotten them and I’m like, sure, that sounds like a good thing to put on a to-do list lol.
11. Volunteer. I volunteered for two events last year, and this year I want to do at least one (or maybe two?) more, on top of those. Those were fun and rewarding experiences (maybe just because volunteers get free vouchers to see movies and shows and this girl loves free shit) but yeah, definitely one of those things I’m super glad I did.
12. Continue playing piano for fun.   Again, one of my best decisions last year. I really really love it, it’s great for my brain to calm down and be distracted, and I might even get a full sized keyboard with 88 keys instead of 72 sometime in the future. I love that there’s no pressure and it feels like something I do just for myself.
13. Learn and keep a new hobby. What is this, 2017? I’m taking pottery classes with an old colleague, and I am also thinking of learning to knit? Hm.
SPACE
14. Travel. My travel goals this year are: Taiwan, the Rockies (Banff and Jasper), and either South America, Turkey, or Eastern Europe. Also, maybe Toronto over the holidays. And I am very very very tentatively thinking about going to New Zealand in 2020, so let’s cross our fingers. I have 2 weeks of vacation left that I haven’t decided what to do with. This is also the year where I’m traveling more with friends, and in the past I completely balked at the idea (yay solo travel!) but I might be ready for a change.
15. Settle into my living space. For the first time in my life, I don’t have roommates! I have a couch and dressers and a dining table, and hoo boy, let me tell you, furniture and decor is NOT my thing. It stresses me out and I straight-up withdraw and try not to deal with it. Bless my mother and her infinite patience (and perhaps pity) with me and helping me sort out my living situation. She helped me move twice last year, and helped me basically pick out all my furniture (second hand!). I’m so grateful, but I also recognize that I just need to suck it up and buy some fucking dining chairs ffs. Also, I’m trying to make this place feel more and more like home. I’m not exactly sure how, but maybe just letting myself laze around on a Sunday afternoon is enough.
16. Settle into my city. I spent this weekend walking up and down the main “streets” in my neighbourhood, making a mental note of all the restaurants and bars and grocery stores I’d like to stop by. I want to familiarize myself with this area a lot more. Be able to give other people recommendations when they visit.
RELATIONSHIPS
17. Make 2 new friends. YAS FRANSSS.
18. Date people! When life got really busy last year, I put this on hold and said “it’s a 2019 problem”. Guess what, it’s 2019, maybe I should go see how my standards have changed… Also, I really want to go out with people I don’t meet on dating apps? I think the reason I like dating apps is that everyone is on the same page regarding “this is a date”, whereas people I sometimes go out with IRL is like “are we doing a friend hang-out or is this a date” (of which, I think the former as to not humiliate myself by assuming the latter).
19. See my mom at least once or twice a month. We live pretty close and I try and say that I’ll spend long weekends with her and my stepdad, but I do need to prioritize this more, I think. It’s so nice to hang out with them, but sometimes I am busy trying to fill up my social calendar that my weekends just become unavailable.
20. Be a better friend (support & generosity). In part of my “turning outwards” theme, I want to be a better friend. Reaching out more, being emotionally available, being generous with my time, asking them thoughtful questions, trying to understand them better and also trying to make sure they feel understood. I recognize they’ll be my support system and I don’t want to let them down.
SELF
21. INTENTIONALITY. This is a big one. It was almost a theme. It was almost my goal #1. I want to be intentional with my actions AND my thoughts. Intentional with the way I act towards my friends, being generous, spending time, setting up hang-outs. I want to also be intentional with the way I consume media (sigh, useless youtube in the background), the fact that I haven’t really listened to podcasts in a while, I’m trying to catch up more on news but sometimes it hurts my heart to read so much negative stuff about the world. I want to READ MORE BOOKS even thought it seems so hard sometimes? Lastly, I want to be intentional with my thoughts. This is obviously hard, but I want to train myself to not ruminate, to let go of anxiety and stress when I can, to care about the opinions only from people that matter, and to be more generous and kind and believe in the best in people.
22. Keep my mental health in check (and prioritize it). With this new job, I feel a lot more anxious and stressed, and I don’t like it. I loved that my previous job meant my brain stopped caring about work at 4pm, but I don’t really have that luxury (yet?) and the anxiety get to me and I think feeds bouts of depression. I want to make sure that I am aware of these effects, I forgive myself for feeling like shit about myself, and that I take actions to either deal or distract me - this usually means seeing friends and being social and not wallowing.
23. Figure out my finances. This resolution should really be further up the list. I don’t know what I am doing with my money, and I need to dedicate time and effort to LEARN IT. Financial literacy is SO IMPORTANT do not let other people tell you otherwise!! Don’t let the system get you, is what I’m saying.
24. Fucking exercise. My friends and I are taking a trip to the Rockies this year (so excited!!) but we have planned a lot of hikes and I’d really prefer not to be the one huffing and puffing the entire time. Also, I really am curious as to the effect exercise might have on my mental health.
25. Maintain my weight. This is a bit health related. Last year, I gained like 10 pounds when I started the office job, and then I lost it towards the end of the year. I just feel much more comfortable with my body at this weight. That said, I recognize that it’s a simple diet + exercise combination, and with my lack of exercise, this just means I watch what I eat. Calories in, calories out. It’s not hard and I should not eat that much cake, okay.
26. Be better than I currently am. WIP, mates.
27. Take risks. Of all sorts. Because, why not. Always.
And… that’s it. As we try and find our way through this year, let me remind myself when I step into work: game face on. Or, as Susie would say to Midge Maisel: tits up.

(purupurupuru) (purupurupuru) (click!) (coo!) (coo!)
Happy! Happy Monday, minna-san! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. The big 20 has so many fun stuff for OP this year so you know the drill. First off, last week’s chapter sure got everyone on their edge of the seats to see lots of Luffy clones munching and crunching on the wedding cake. No crumb or at least a smudge of frosting left. With everyone doing their part to sabotage the plan, Big Mom can’t help, but get angry with the situation. At the end, Jinbei finally stands up to her, and declares himself as the new member of the Mugiwara crew! YAY! Congrats, and welcome the new 10th member! Also, just when things are going sentimental, CRACK! A fake Luffy destroyed the portrait of Mother Caramel. AH! Who is the culprit?! Guess we’ll see this week. There will be no chapter next week due to Golden Week so be patient. Next, this past weekend’s episode sure was erotic. Luffy’s life was saved by Sanji’s alluring sister, Reige. Giving the smoochy woochy mouth-to-mouth to suck all the poison out. Lucky guy! Poor Brook can’t help but watch. Too bad he has no skin to get her wet lips on his. Ha ha ha ha! At the end, Luffy thanks Reige for saving his life, and demands that they let Sanji go. The Vinsmoke siblings only say that they never crossed paths, and continued on to their journey. Next week, we finally get to meet Pudding, and the sweet tooth Yonkou, Big Mom. Get ready to hear her song, “Bloody Party.” AH! Couldn’t Oda-sensei picked a better title for it?! That sounds too scary like a Halloween song, but gory. HA! Now on with the goods! (DING!) (DONG!) Ah! Doorbell, I’ll get it. GUA! If it isn’t Tongari-san, our tower mascot. Come in! Boys! Tea and sweets, hurry! Here you go, my friend. Ok, boys, get your pencils ready. So, what’s so important that you can’t wait to tell us? Tongari-san says that oodles of fun stuff is gonna happen at the tower. First off, this Saturday, the tower will re-open with awesome new attractions and live show. As you all know, the tower will be celebrating 20 year of OP by having a manga exhibition. Next, the popular rock band, GREEEEN provided the opening song for the 3rd live show, and Oda-san has designed the new character that will be part of the show. The girl’s name is Anne. It seems that she will be important in the story. The show will begin this Saturday. Next, the tower will continue to have a stamp rally, and same as always, you must complete 3 games to receive a free button. This time, they will give away buttons of the Straw Hats. To participate, you can purchase a Tongari passport book at the 3rd floor in Tongari’s store. Moving on, the tower will also celebrate Luffy’s birthday, and they will sell this cute button of him in his kid form. They will also sell a birthday button of Rayleigh. His birthday is on May 13th. Next, The Mugiwara Café will now accept take-out orders including their pizza menu. If you like order some food, simply request the waiters that you like a take-out instead of eating inside the café. Next, the tower will be selling some new goods at the Mugiwara store such as these cute mechanical pencils, plush cleaners of Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, Law, and Cora-san, a new bag of gum gum fruit candy, three luck charms of Ace, Robin, and Cora-san, and this double-side folder. GUA! Opening and loads of new goods. Birthday buttons will be released next month, and the other goods will be released this weekend. The manga exhibition will end in late July. Next, here is the new cover of log collection of Dressrosa which will have the crazy fan, Bartolomeo. If you order this DVD set, you will receive a double-side folder that will have him and Cavendish as a present. However, if you purchase this from Amazon, you will receive another present which is this acrylic stand of Bartolomeo. DVD will be released on July 27th. Next, coming soon in Shanghai, China, an OP live stage show will be shown. Details on tickets will be released soon. Next, the OP app game, Thousand Storm, is having an anniversary campaign which will have lots of new cool attire and characters including stamps you can get. If you have a smartphone, check your app store, and download it. It’s also in English too. Next, DURALEX, a pottery company from France, has created this clear, orange mugs that has Luffy and Ace. It will be available at Mugiwara stores in June, but if you can’t make the trip here, you can order it. We will leave a link for more details. Moving on, next month, the Mugiwara stores will be giving out free bookmarks of OP kids such as Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Ace, Sabo, Brook, Franky, Chopper, Ussop, and Law. You must purchase goods over 1000 yen to receive it. It’s kid’s day event on May 5th. Moving on, in the next few weeks, JUMP will be holding a contest where you can win an autographed card from the great mangaka himself, Oda-sensei. The JUMP comics will include a ticket entry so you can fill it out, and mail it. The winner will also get this OP comic book shelf. Last day for entry will be accepted until June 12th. You can find JUMP comics at book stores or convenience stores. Next, Sanji’s restaurant event at USJ has posted the menu that will be served. For appetizers, you will be served a fish marinade dish with delicious salad including with heart cherry tomatoes. For entrée, you can choose either Hancock’s love hurricane sirloin steak with some nutritious veggies, and heart croquette with some wine sauce. Or you can orther Shirahoshi’s lovely tear fish cuisine including with nutritious veggies with also a heart croquette with wine sauce. For kids menu, they will serve Sanji’s special plate that will have a hamburger steak with some veggies, noodles with a tomato heart, and some french fries. For dessert, you will be served a Mademoiselle vanilla parfait with raspberry jelly along with some orange sweet sauce. They will also sell some cocktail beverages. #1 is smooch drink with some fruits and ice cream on top. #2 is Rose for lovely lady sparkling strawberry wine. These two are alcoholic drinks. #3 is a My heart is yours berry cocktail with some sprinkles and berry foam. #4 is an All-blue berry cocktail with some blueberries. These two are non-alcoholic beverages. If you order either of these beverages, you will receive a free silver spoon of any of the Mugiwara. Last, but not least, the restaurant will be selling a take-out dessert of Sanji’s mellorine fruit cake that will have a special message card from Sanji. This can only be purchased at the restaurant. USJ OP original goods will be released soon. Next, Figure Arts and POP Maximum will released new figurines of Hancock and Luffy in gear 4. Both will be released in September. Link to pre-order will be released later on. Hobby stores or Mugiwara stores will also take in pre-orders as well. Detail will be announced later. Last, but not least, as you all know, the lovely Sawashiro Miyuki is the lucky gal to portray the double face Ms. Pudding. Also, it has been announced that great seiyuu veteran, Koyama Mayu will be the one to portray Big Mom from now on. She is known for her popular role as Arale-chan from Dr.Slump. N-CHA! That is so my fave phrase from her. GUA! Congrats to these two ladies, and let’s see how they’ll do their roles as devious pirates. PHEW! UGH! That sure was a lot of info, but we got through every one of it. Well, that’s all for now, tune in next week for more news on goods and upcoming events. Special thanks to Tongari-san. We’ll see you on Saturday for the grand re-opening! Kikko! Momon! let’s get some shut eye!

The Best Valentine’s Day Date Ideas
Valentine’s Day should be easy. After all, the potentially disastrous bit – finding a partner to get all googly-eyed with – is done. Yet, the reality can be as far from cute and cuddly as a season of Narcos. There’s the panic gift buying – as if every man on earth suddenly remembers it’s his mother’s birthday. The overpriced roses that resemble a shrivelled scrotum the instant you leave the shop. Plus the restaurant dinners where the conversation is drier than a well-done steak. However, there is a new Plan V. A cooler, slicker way to handle the day – starting with these 14 date ideas that are memorable and have just the right level of mush. You’ve got it from here.1. Take A Cable CarValentine’s Day can feel like every town and city is crammed full of couples. Like, seriously, is no one binge-watching Netflix tonight? To escape to your own little pod of outdoor privacy, think vertical. Cable cars and Ferris wheels were made for this very occasion – they bring awesome views, the novelty factor, the fear of dangling perilously in the air. Okay, don’t dwell on that last one. Do pre-book wherever possible, however. Queuing is never an aphrodisiac.2. Book A Chocolate MasterclassChocolate for Valentine’s Day, ground-breaking, right? Well, actually, it is if you think outside the chocolate box and turn the sweet stuff into an experience. For one, a masterclass with a chocolatier is basically a whole evening spent eating dessert together. You’ll smell chocolate, taste it and turn it into miniature truffley works of art. It’s a touchy-feely activity that brings out your creative and your sensual sides. The result? Prepare to adopt the charm of Ferrero Rocher’s ambassador with the sultry appeal of the Milk Tray man. Roll neck optional.3. Go Star-GazingThe night sky isn’t just romantic, it also doesn’t get booked up three weeks in advance and is big enough that you won’t bump into anyone else with the same idea. To ace stargazing, you need a spot away from artificial light (but not so remote that your date thinks you’re luring them into the wilderness), cosy layers, the Sky View Lite app to identify what’s above you, plus something stiff (liquor based, please). Of course, every great plan has a nemesis, and in this case it’s clouds. An observatory or planetarium is a strong back-up. Even if visibility is poor, 3D projections bring the planets to you.4. Escape To A Boutique HotelNo relationship was ever made worse by a king-size bed, Egyptian cotton sheets, a mini bar stocked with rum and someone else cleaning the toilet. Spending Valentine’s away in a swanky hotel elevates planning for the day from a chore into a treat. There’s also a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign that you can use without feeling guilty. Meaning all the usual mid-passion mood-killers – parents unexpectedly popping over, the postman needing a signature – are eliminated. Oh yes.5. Have A Cook-OffSo you forgot to reserve the pop-up restaurant that your partner’s been dropping hints about since last October. No problem. Blame its booking system and inject some DIY fun instead. Propose a challenge: you both have to prepare the best or most inventive meal you can, using only what’s currently in the house. Depending on your level of reliance on takeaway apps, that dish could be a variation on pasta and sauce, or something to make Ottolenghi green with envy. Winner of the cook-off gets a week off washing-up duty.6. Recreate Your First DateObviously it helps if your first date was a cracker. And, very important, that you remember the first date with the right person. A candlelit river cruise with some phone-streamed jazz might be date dynamite, but not if it actually happened between you and an ex. Caveats over with, a trip down memory lane always gets the heartstrings going. Throw on the same Oxford shirt, recreate the food you ate, choose the same bottle of wine, joke about the mishaps or funny moments and how you never could have imagined it would have worked out so well. You big softie.7. Build Something TogetherFor a fun evening where time will evaporate, get your geek on and build something together. Lego and jigsaw puzzles are, frankly, wasted on the young. By our age, we should celebrate finally being allowed to buy the big Lego set (Star Wars Millennium Falcon, we’re looking at you). Plus, we won’t throw a tantrum if we can’t find the bottom right-hand corner of the jigsaw. Or so the theory goes. Fact is, games are silly and satisfying in equal measure, and, weirdly, it’s seriously hot watching your partner construct. Who knew?8. Pick A Random Cuisine To TryAn interesting way to solve the dinner dilemma – i.e. how to eat out without being a clone of every couple in a 10-mile radius – is to pick the cuisine of a lesser known country or just one you’ve never tried and find a street-food truck or takeout. Maybe it’s Vietnamese or Bangladeshi or Lebanese. The food itself provides a more interesting talking point than ‘Will that couple over there please stop eating each other’ – and you might just stumble upon a new favourite to return to.9. Give Pottery-Making A SpinIf it was good enough for Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in Ghost… (okay, Swayze’s character wasn’t exactly alive at the time – but details, schmetails). For Valentine’s Day, a ceramics or pottery-making class is all kinds of sensual. Think about it: hands interlocking over wet clay while you sculpt next to each other at the wheel. Even if the end result is more mangled than majestic, you’ll have a romantic date and a souvenir to remember it by.10. Belt Out KaraokeValentine’s Day singing isn’t just for drunk groups of singles on the train – it’s great for drunk couples, too. Though upgrade the train to a karaoke booth. Depending on which side of the X Factor stage you would be most likely to grace – the voice of an angel ‘Yes’ group or the voice that makes dogs howl – a bit of tequila beforehand may or may not be needed. Though, it’s really the attitude that counts. Grab your date, a classic playlist and belt out some cheesy duets. Sonny and Cher, eat your heart out.11. Try An Adventure SportNot that thing you saw on PornHub that looked like you needed to be triple-jointed, this is good, clean, PG-friendly fun. In fact, your local sports centre is a good place to start. Have you ever been to a climbing wall together? What about trampolining? Or a zip-wire or tree-top assault course? Think outside your comfort zone (literally – there may well be muscle ache the next day) and choose an adrenaline-fuelled activity that’s good for your heart, both physically and romantically.12. Wow With A Helicopter RideIt’s hard to talk about helicopters without dropping in a ‘give them the ride of their life’ cliché. But, when in Rome and all that. A helicopter ride is a blow-the-budget, blow-their-socks-off date memorable for you, for your partner, and great for bragging rights on Instagram. Dating by chopper always trumps dating by Uber – even one of the fancy ones with Fiji Water. Where to go? Take a short flight around your city, over a river or near a famous landmark. It’s not just about the views, the bumpy bits are perfect moments for some impromptu hand-squeezing.13. Relax In A SpaHowever tough men like to act, moaning about always having a stiff neck and never doing anything about it, almost all agree – pampering rocks. Take those white spa robes. That’s a level of comfort and fluffiness that seems to defy the laws of science. A spa is a great Valentine’s Day activity because you’re both indulged, both relaxed, and both in a setting where there’s no pressure to competitively look at other couples and judge who is having the better time. In a spa, everyone is too blissed out and horizontal to care. Couple’s packages range from hours of knot-nuking massage to dips in hydrotherapy pools and scent-infused saunas.14. Play The Flip-A-Coin GameStill don’t want the pressure of producing a Valentine’s Day dud? Well, why not leave the evening to chance. Head into a town or city centre and flip a coin to make your decisions. Should we turn left or right here? There’s a bar on one side, a café on the other – which wins? Should we go to a museum or the park? Ice cream or cake? Like one of those ‘choose your adventure’ books you loved as a child, the coin handles your fate for you. One thing: just don’t forget your wallet. Source link
