Worldbuilding Countries (Part 1)
I've lived in and visited a few countries in my life, which gave me a lot of inspiration for my fantasy novel. I'm not an expert, but I thought I'd share what I learned!
Climate
The climate will most likely come up at some point. Do you mention the cool breeze, or the orange leaves on the trees? All those nice weather descriptions will depend on the climate!
If you have a couple of different countries, it may be a little weird if they all have the same climate (especially if they are far away from each other), so there's a few things you can consider to make them a bit more specific.
Climate is of course a very complicated topic, so I will simplify it a bit.
Temperature
I like to pick a real country/city and look at its temperature graphs on Wikipedia. One important thing to note is that countries aren't simply colder/warmer than one another. I know a lot of people think that a country like Russia is cold all year round, but it is actually quite warm in summer. Some areas have a larger variation between temperature throughout the year than others (normally, the closer to the equator a country is, the less variation there is. They also tend to be warmer).
Look at Singapore:
Tumblr media
The temperatures are basically stable all year round (the letters up top are the months). The numbers are the average minimum and maximum daily temperatures. You can see that on average the variation every day is less than 10°C.
Here is Moscow:
Tumblr media
The temperature changes quite a lot throughout the year. Note that the maximum temperatures (summer) will occur at the opposite times of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.
You can see this demonstrated in Copiapo (Chile):
Tumblr media
This city is in the Southern hemisphere, so their coldest months are June and July :)
One thing you may have noticed is that the bars here are taller, which means that the variation for the daily min and max are higher too. Why is that? I'm simplifying it a bit, but generally, the dryer a place is, the more variation you will get in daily temperature. Which brings us to the next thing to consider:
Humidity/Precipitation
There are a few things to consider:
Rainfall. This can vary month-by-month, and due to some complicated factors, some countries have more rain in their colder months, some have more rain in their warmer months. Some places don't follow a neat pattern or stay consistent throughout the year. Have a look at climate pages on Wikipedia to get some ideas! Even just this page on Chile has a lot of cool examples. Each city is quite different!
Although of course the "wetness" of a country related to rainfall (e.g. you'd expect greener grass somewhere with more rainfall, brownish dry grass or a desert somewhere with less rainfall), it's not that simple. UK is a wet country, right? And if you've heard of Gold Coast (Australia) it seems pretty dry, right? Well, actually the Gold Coast gets twice as much precipitation (rain) as London!
Tumblr media
To demonstrate, I took a screenshot (randomly selected street in each city) from Google Streetview.
Why this difference? I suspect it's because the Gold Coast is much hotter. Living in Australia, puddles are normally gone by the next day (often the rain even evaporates as it hits the ground!), but in UK, the puddles would always stay around for a while.
The UK is always mossy, often the clouds hang in the sky for ages. It can look quite grey. When it rains in the Gold Coast in summer, the raindrops evaporate as soon as they hit the pavement, which makes the air feel very humid and smell strongly of rain. You can use these sorts of sensory details in your stories :)
Also, one thing I noticed, is that in hotter weather, rain can be much more heavy than in colder weather. In Australia we often get heavy rain that causes flooding. In UK the rain usually dribbles all day but doesn't get heavy. In a place like the Gold Coast you can get rain that last 10 minutes but soaks you all the way through and floods the street.
The rainfall may also vary year-by-year. Australia goes through periods of floods and droughts that last a couple of years. The mechanism is a bit complicated so I won't go through it now, but it gives you something to google!
Humidity: Deserts have low humidity, which means that you can cool off more easily in the shade and the nights are colder. The breeze feels more refreshing at low humidity as your sweat evaporates.
High humidity (like Singapore) will feel much hotter at the same temperatures and it is normally still quite hot in the shade. High humidity feels really muggy, the air feels thick. The sweat doesn't evaporate as much, so you are left all wet and sticky. The breeze can feel much less refreshing because of this.
When the temperature is below freezing, the humidity gets very low, so your skin may need more moisturiser or your lips may crack.
Those are just some things to consider while describing your weather!
Generally, closer to the sea will be wetter, further inland is dryer. Have a look at some climate maps on Wikipedia, you will learn a lot! Climate is quite complicated since there are so many factors, so there's a lot you can do with it.
UV: This is one thing that people often forget about when they think about weather. In the UK, even on a very hot and sunny day, you are unlikely to get sunburnt (unless you are very pale). In Australia, you can get sunburnt very easily in even Tasmania, which is our coldest state, even when the temperatures are chilly.
You can't actually feel being sunburnt, which I fully understood when I visited Tasmania. I was freezing, but the whole time I was being sunburnt.
Normally, UV index is higher closer to the equator, which is why people who live closer to the equator tend to have darker skin. The melanin acts as protection against the sun. Still, this protection isn't perfect, so in the real world people in Africa used different methods to protect their skin, such as using clay as a "sunscreen".
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. This is partially because most people in Australia have pale skin (originally from the UK), but the UV index is high.
This is something to consider in your story, since it can play a bigger role in behaviour than you'd expect if you live in a cold climate. In Australia, they recommend staying indoors between certain hours of the day to avoid sunburn, and if you do go out you should wear clothes that cover your skin, a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen. Someone with very pale skin can get sunburnt in minutes. Wide-brimmed hats are compulsory at schools in Australia - you are not allowed to play if you forget your hat.
In low-UV areas, there is the opposite issue. People with darker skin can have problems getting vitamin D. Same goes for people who cover their skin with clothing (e.g. for religious reasons). However, this is a bit simpler to fix with some vitamin D supplements.
How do I use this for worldbuilding?
If you have a map of your countries, you may want to keep their location in mind when deciding on the climate :)
I like to draw up some graphs with the temperatures throughout the year for each country and some quick notes on the humidity, rainfall and UV.
You can also add some other elements to your story. Is it a fantasy? Maybe magic affects the weather! Sci-fi? You can play with the distance of the planet from the sun, axial tilt, sun size etc. (I won't go into that since it's a whole another topic and really complicated as well)
You probably don't need to know the exact details of the climate for most stories, but having a general idea will allow you to consistently describe what sorts of clothing your characters wear, the weather etc. Those are the sorts of things that comes up in almost every story (if it's long enough).
If you read this and found this useful, please reblog so I know that it was helpful. If it seems like people enjoyed this post, I will make more (I was going to talk about so much more, but this is already too long).

Thank you @avida-heidia-5 for making this and thank you @checolate-bar for tagging me :D
1. Who or what got you into F1?
Okay, hear me out. Insta reels in early 2023. For some reason, my insta algorithm decided that I want to see F1 content. It started with clips from races and driver memes. Then insta showed me Charles Leclerc and here we are now.
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
Charles Leclerc was the first driver I supported and I still do. He made me a Ferrari fan (thanks for that Charles). He is no longer my favorite driver, but he’s still up there. I still believe that he’s one of the best human beings to wander the earth.
3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?
My favorite current driver is Alex Albon. He is just one of the people you simply can’t not like.
But I have to admit, my all time favorite driver is Sebastian Vettel. He is just such an awesome person in every aspect of life. An outstanding driver, and human.
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
There are a bunch that I like, but at the top of the list are Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Everything about them just fits. With Nando being the war criminal who suddenly decides to be nice to his new teammate, and Lance’s (Estie) Bestie hating Nando, and the two of them just living in their own little bubble, not caring about the rest of the world. Idk, they make me happy.
But Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen are very close. Even though they constantly break my heart. I wish I could have witnessed the 2021 season just to see their peak together, to see how thankful Max was for everything that Checo has done for him.
There is no Brasil 22 in Ba Sing Se.
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
My brother likes McLaren, especially Lando Norris. But he’s not interested enough to watch the races, he just watches the highlights.
The rest of my family hate that I like F1, because it takes up the whole weekend. But they sometimes talk about Michael Schumacher and a few of the other German drivers they know.
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
I’m fairly new and am too busy to watch a lot of the older races, so I have to go with Singapore 23. Just because Carlos won with the highest IQ ever and it was perfect.
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
As a more or less passionate sim driver, I gotta go with which circuits are in my opinion the most fun to drive. I haven’t driven all of the circuits yet, but the ones I currently like the most are Monza and Red Bull Ring.
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
I haven’t, too expensive. But there are three circuits relatively close to where I live, so if I ever win the lotto, I’ll probably visit the Red Bull Ring or Zandvoort.
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
I have not. But Alex did a meet and greet in Bangkok a week after I was there. You can imagine how sad I was.
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
Not really. I love that the current ones are relatively safe, compared to the older ones.
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
That’s got to be Pierre Gasly.
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
A bunch to be honest. Here are some of my favorites:
“Everybody is a Ferrari fan. Even if they’re not, they are a Ferrari fan. Even if you go to the Mercedes guys. Even if they say ‘Oh yeah, Mercedes is the greatest brand in the world.’ They are a Ferrari fan.”-Sebastian Vettel
“Mein Gott, muss das sein? So ein Scheiß aber auch!“-Sebastian Vettel
“GEORGE!!!!”-Alex Albon
“What’s a meme? Ah mehmehs.”-Sergio Perez
“He’s pretty impressive for an old guy.”-Lance Stroll
“I am stupid”-Charles Leclerc
“Nothing just an inchident.”-Charles Leclerc
“I don’t think anymore. I’ve stopped thinking a long time ago.”-Charles Leclerc
“I don’t wanna mature, I’m happy where I am.”-Lando Norris
“Soy lago.”-Lando Norris
“It’s bwoken! It’s bwoken!”-Lando Norris
“You son of… your mother.”-Carlos Sainz
“I’m a high performance athlete. Athlete’s sweat. Sweat baby. Kikiki rah sweat sweat.”
“Perfect weather… for a duck.”-Valtteri Bottas
“I’m hanging here like a cow.”-Nico Hülkenberg
“I was having a shit.”-Kimi Raikkönen
“FOR WHAT?!”-Kimi Raikkönen
I’m just gonna stop here, otherwise I’m never going to finish this.
I’m tagging you @mo0nchhild :D

Traveling from Singapore to Malaysia Like a Pro: Your Ultimate Guide to an Epic Journey!
Hey there, fellow travelers! If you're itching to explore the wonders of Malaysia from Singapore like a seasoned pro, I've got some awesome insider tips for you. I've been on this journey a few times, and trust me, it's a fantastic adventure packed with incredible sights and unforgettable experiences. So, let's dive right in and get you all set for an epic trip!
Plan Ahead and Book a Sweet Private Car Ride:
First things first, don't leave your travel arrangements to the last minute! Plan ahead and book yourself a super cool private car service like V6 Transport. They've got comfy 7-seat and 10-seat rides that'll make you feel like a VIP on the road. Plus, booking in advance means no stress about getting stuck in long lines or waiting forever for your ride.
Check Those Travel Docs, People!
I know it sounds kinda obvious, but you won't believe how many times folks forget to check their visas and travel documents. Double-check your passport's all good and that you've got any required visas for Malaysia. It'll save you tons of headache at the border, trust me.
Take Your Time Exploring the Best Spots:
Malaysia has so much to offer, from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers to the awe-inspiring Batu Caves. My advice? Avoid the crazy crowds by visiting these hotspots during off-peak hours. That way, you'll have more space to snap Insta-worthy pics and really soak in the beauty of these places.
Get in the Local Vibe and Munch on Street Food:
You can't say you've been to Malaysia without digging into some mouthwatering street food! Head to the hawker centers, and let your taste buds go wild with all the local delicacies. Trust me, it's the best way to experience the true flavors of Malaysia!
Pack Smart, Pack Light:
Listen, I get it – we all wanna bring our entire wardrobe on trips, but that's just not practical. Pack light and opt for comfy and versatile clothes suitable for the tropical weather. Oh, and don't forget to toss in sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and a power bank to keep your gadgets juiced up.
Stay Connected with a Handy Travel SIM Card:
Staying connected is essential, right? Grab yourself a travel SIM card for both Singapore and Malaysia. That way, you can stay on top of your game with maps, translation apps, and more. Plus, you won't miss out on sending envy-inducing pics to your friends back home!
So there you have it, folks – your ultimate guide to rocking your journey from Singapore to Malaysia like a true travel pro! Remember, plan ahead, book a sweet private car, and check those travel docs before you hit the road. Take your time exploring the best spots, savor the local flavors, and don't overpack – keep it light and smart. With these tips, you'll be all set for an epic adventure you'll cherish forever. Safe travels, and have a blast exploring Malaysia like a true pro! Bon voyage!

15 questions for 5 mutuals
Rule: You have to answer truthfully and you have to tag 5 mutuals in your post.
tagged by: @jemedesean thank you for the tag! Much love <3
1. Are you named after anyone?
I don’t think so? My name is Nurhakeem, Nur for “sunlight” and Hakeem for “wise”. Not of anyone that I know
2. When was the last time you cried? Why?
Recently, I was with my close friend and she was describing her emotional struggles and pain that she was going through, and everytime that happens, I tear up abit.
The one time which I REALLY cried was during a movie for Demon Slayer. I cried like 5 times during a span of 90 min lol.
3. Do you believe in Soulmates?
Yes I do. Actually, it is part of my faith and religion to believe in not just soulmates, but destiny (or Divine Decree). Everything has been planned out by God. Ever wondered how you end up where you are now at? Ever wondered how everything worked out in the end? But maybe that’s just me haha.
Regarding soulmates, the name of your spouse has already been written too. Now it’s up to me to reach to her. I think some of yall already know who that is lol *wink wink*
4. Do you drink liquor?
No. Haram baby. I know some Muslims that do drink, but I just try to remind them. I can’t force them to not want to drink it.
Plus, drinking alcohol causes cancer. I think there was a recent study that says that no small amount of alcohol is good for you.
5. What do you usually daydream about?
Umm... good question. Going out with my close friend? XD
Also, how can I go to Japan or Switszerland or Austria in the future, and what do I need to do to make it happen.
6. First thing you notice about other people?
Their smile
7. What's your favorite quote from a TV show/movie/book?
“Friendship means little when it’s convenient” - Koji Shimazu (from John Wick 4)
“Those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum” - Kakashi/Obito/Naruto
8. Some of your pet peeves?
When people refuse to put their bags down on the floor when they’re on the bus or train. As a result, they take up more space than they need to.
9. Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?
Japan, because it’s cheaper than travelling to Switzerland haha. Also, I want to visit Mount Fuji one day and visit a Japanese Mosque and see how they are different than the ones in Singapore. I want to go with someone. It’s no fun to go alone
10. Where were you born?
Singapore, KK Hospital
11. What are your hobbies?
Hanging out with my close friends, reading religious books, playing video games, exercising, going for hikes, watching movies, going for dinners and exhibitions. Having fun basically. OO and I like to cook when I can.
12. What's the best joke you've ever heard?
Hey baby. You look like a baby. Want to be my baby?
13. What’s your love language?
Quality Time and Words of Affirmation are on the same level at the top, followed closely by physical touch
14. Topics you never get tired of to talk about.
Religion and life and emotional struggles. AND Naruto and anime that I am interested in. And movies.
15. What would be the title if your life were a movie?
Where is the love?

FACTS AND STATS: Red Bull end a long wait for success in Bahrain as does Alonso
Max Verstappen blazed to victory under the Bahrain lights in the opening race of the 2023 F1 season, in which Red Bull took a one-two to begin their season in style, and Fernando Alonso turned heads with a brilliant podium finish. The 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix offered up some very interesting facts and stats, as well... The winner of the opening race has been the championship runner-up every season since 2017. Max Verstappen has never previously won the opening race of the season. He won the Bahrain Grand Prix for the first time on his ninth attempt. READ MORE: Verstappen leads 1-2 in Bahrain season opener as Leclerc retires and Alonso takes final podium place in style Red Bull have only previous won the opening race once (Australia 2011), and have never finished one-two in the first race before. Red Bull have not won in Bahrain for 10 years (Sebastian Vettel in the last daylight race here in 2013). Red Bull qualify one-two and finish one-two in a race for the first time since the 2013 Abu Dhabi GP. Max Verstappen won the Bahrain GP on his ninth attempt, and won in Bahrain on his 10th visit in Formula 1 (counting the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix) Fernando Alonso scores Aston Martin's second podium finish in the marque's 50th Grand Prix start. Alonso scores only his second podium finish in his last 122 Grands Prix, and his first since Qatar 2021. Alonso is 41 years, 219 days old today. Only one older driver has been on the podium in the last 37 years (Michael Schumacher was 43 at Valencia 2012). Yesterday was the 22nd anniversary of Alonso's F1 debut (Australia 2001). Sunday was Aston Martin's 50th Grand Prix start – and Alonso took P3 Carlos Sainz took P4, having finished in the same position at the final race of the 2022 season. Lewis Hamilton's fifth place was his worst finish in Bahrain since he was fifth in the 2013 race. Lance Stroll in P6 matches his best result from the 2022 season (sixth in Singapore). Stroll finished in the top six despite not driving the car in pre-season testing. With Russell in seventh, the two Mercedes cars finished 51 and 56 seconds respectively behind the race winner. Eighth-placed Valtteri Bottas scored points in Bahrain for the 10th consecutive time. From 2014 to now, Bottas has scored points in Bahrain Ninth-placed Pierre Gasly of Alpine scores points from last on the grid for the second time in his career (finished 10th in Mexico City, 2018). Williams scored in Bahrain for the first time since 2017, when Felipe Massa was sixth, thanks to Alex Albon's P10. Zhou Guanyu finished 16th but took fastest lap for the second time in his career, having done so in Japan 2022. Lando Norris finished 17th having made six pit stops. Sunday was his second-straight non-scoring Bahrain Grand Prix. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

10 years later... and I’m back.
10 years later and nearly to the day (last post March 5 2013)... and I’m back on Tumblr. Much has changed, naturally. For starters I had to change my surname back to my maiden name. I’m in a new country, my in-house cat quota has doubled, my outlook is very different. Allow me to share 3 top-of-mind reflections from the past 10 years.
Back yourself. I’ve realised that if I don’t understand a concept, it’s not because I’m unintelligent. It’s more likely to be that the concept is poorly thought through &/or communicated. Also, when I’m facing headwinds in life, I take charge; I can effect meaningful positive change at quite a scale, personally. So can you, you just need to back yourself.
Community is everything. When I moved to Singapore, I moved here knowing only one person. I moved into a great neighbourhood and found myself surrounded by neighbours, shopkeepers and new friends who made me feel like I lived on Sesame Street. Living on my own for the first time, with the pandemic... I never once felt lonely. When I went back to Dubai for a brief visit, I felt very lonely, despite having friends. Friends are not Community, Community is more than friends alone, and I believe we can do better in forming diverse, kind, wonderful and respectful communities globally.
I no longer believe in the hetero-normative fairytale. In fact I’m not sure I ever really did. I’m also glad I don’t have kids. I question Elon’s whole spiel about population collapse. And this thing about how two people should get together and la-di-da go skipping off into the sunset... I think that is a form of deeply rooted and archaic societal control. Call me a “love” skeptic and I’m absolutely fine with that. I believe love is love and it takes many forms.
I think global enlightenment is on the increase. It’s rough these days, 100%; but when I observe macro factors around the world, I observe more tolerance and understanding of different cultures (not less), more multi-theistic views being integrated into one’s personal view, more pluralistic societies, more awareness of natural and human rights. I think we can reach a place of appreciation for the world... it’s a journey and it always will be.
That’s it from me today. Thanks for having me back, peeps xxM

4, 11, & 22 plsss
Hello!
Good to hear from you, Liv ✨️🌻
4. Movie of the year?
Wicked. I am a slut for this film. It's one of my top 10 stage musicals of all time, so I had high expectations, and they were all exceeded. It's perfect even in the parts where it's not. Best musical to film adaptation ever made, and it'll be hard to ever top
(Shout out to Lisa Frankstein, that movie is my girl)
11. Something you want to do again next year?
Be in more musicals. Even if it's just one. I played Paulette in a university production of Legally Blonde this year, and it was the time of my life. I decided long ago that performing is my life's purpose. imo, community theatre is so much more fun than professional productions because everyone there is an unpaid volunteer who is just there because we love theatre and we're all nerds. Anyway, I want more of that
22. Favourite place you visited this year?
This is a great question because I went overseas for the first time in 7 years this year - Norway and England (with a dash of Singapore and France). I adored every place I visited, but if I must pick just one ro gush about: Tromsø, Norway. It's magic there. Saw the northern lights, reindeer, snow, fjords. Norwegians have beautiful hair. It's probably all that fish. One day, I need to get back there. Here's some pictures of Tromsø because why not

The End is Nigh for P&O Cruises Australia
The end is fast approaching for P&O Cruises in Australia.
Having cruised in Australian waters since 1932 and with a heritage in these waters that dates back to 1852, there are now just a few weeks left of P&O branded cruises.
Here's what's going to happen to the P&O Australia ships as they farewell this iconic brand!
youtube
Pacific Explorer:
Tumblr media
Above: The P&O Australia flagship, Pacific Encounter.
Pacific Explorer has already made her final call to Sydney, meaning the last time a P&O flagship visits Sydney has already slipped past with no fanfare.
But there is still time to farewell this ship, with Pacific Explorer’s last cruise an 11-night voyage to Singapore, departing Fremantle on 7 February 2025.
Fremantle has been an important port for P&O since the 1850s, so it is fitting to see the flagship depart the Western Australian port for its final P&O Cruises voyage.
The ship will transfer to a new owner, Resorts World Cruises, and sail in Southeast Asia as Star Scorpio.
Pacific Adventure:
Tumblr media
Above: Pacific Adventure's life ring.
The most emotional farewells will likely take place in Sydney, which has been the hub for cruising aboard P&O ships for over 90 years.
Pacific Adventure will operate P&O’s final Sydney voyages, with two return trips to Tangalooma and Moreton Island. These 4-night cruises will sail from 6th to 10 March, and 10th to 14 March, as Sydney return voyages.
The ship's Penultimate arrival will be at Circular Quay, while the final arrival will berth at White Bay, making March 14th the final P&O harbour bridge arrival. That same day will see the final P&O Cruises Australia departure from Sydney, as the ship sails out of the harbour for refit to become Carnival Adventure.
Pacific Encounter:
Tumblr media
Above: The top deck of Pacific Encounter with giant P&O logo.
The final P&O Australia passenger voyage falls on the Brisbane-based Pacific Encounter. This is kind of poetic, as Brisbane was the first cruising port of call when Strathallan sailed from Sydney to Brisbane in 1932 enroute to the Pacific Islands.
Pacific Encounter will undertake a weeklong Pacific Island cruise departing 8 March. This will see the ship return to Brisbane for 15 March – one day after Pacific Adventure leaves Sydney.
As such, the final ever P&O Cruises Australia passengers will depart Pacific Encounter on March 15. That same day, the ship will leave Brisbane for refit to become Carnival Encounter, marking the final Brisbane departure, last ever P&O Australia departure, and an end of P&O Cruises in Australia – a lineage that dates back 93 years.
P&O Lives On?

Above: Sydney Opera House from the top deck of Arcadia.
While P&O Australia will be officially shut down on 29 March 2025, Carnival Corporation also owns P&O Cruises UK which has a fleet of ships based out of the UK.
One of those ships is the Arcadia, which will be visiting Australia on her world cruise. Ironically, this will take place in March 2025. Thus, as P&O Australia closes down, we will see a UK based P&O branded ship make calls at Australian ports.

Hey foodies! If you’re planning a trip to Singapore or just on the hunt for your next amazing meal, you’re in the right place. From trendy fusion spots to local icons, I’ve curated a list of 10 must-visit restaurants that will take your taste buds on a journey. And yes, I had to include my personal favorite, Fortuna Drink & Eat, which is an absolute gem! Let’s dive in.
1. Fortuna Drink & Eat – Best Restaurant Singapore
I can’t talk about great food in Singapore without shouting out Fortuna Drink & Eat. This spot is the ultimate destination for anyone who loves bold, creative flavors. Their Laksa Risotto is a creamy, spicy masterpiece, and the Chili Crab Pizza? Let’s just say it’s the perfect mix of local and global inspiration.
Not only is the food incredible, but the cocktails are next level too. I highly recommend their Pandan Mojito, which is as refreshing as it is unique. The vibe? Trendy yet super inviting, making it ideal for casual outings or a special night out. Trust me, once you visit, you’ll want to come back again and again.
2. Odette – Fine Dining That Wows
For a touch of elegance, Odette is an unbeatable choice. This three-Michelin-starred restaurant is located in the National Gallery and is all about artfully plated French cuisine. Their seasonal tasting menus are a splurge, but every dish, from the Normandy Brown Crab to the Pigeon with Bourbon Sauce, is pure magic.
3. Burnt Ends – BBQ with a Modern Twist
Barbecue lovers, you’ll be obsessed with Burnt Ends. This place specializes in Australian-style barbecue, with an open kitchen that lets you watch the chefs in action. Try the Beef Marmalade Toast or the Pulled Pork Sanger—both are smoky, juicy, and packed with flavor.
4. Jumbo Seafood – The Chili Crab Legend
No Singapore food list is complete without chili crab, and Jumbo Seafood is where it’s at. Their signature dish is fresh, messy, and absolutely worth the effort. Pro tip: Don’t skip the fried mantou buns—they’re perfect for soaking up every drop of that spicy-sweet sauce.
5. Atlas Bar – Glamorous Dining Done Right
If you’re after a dining experience that’s as stunning as the food, Atlas Bar will blow you away. The Gatsby-era interiors are jaw-dropping, and the menu is equally impressive. Their Duck Confit is a standout, and their gin cocktails are legendary.
6. Candlenut – Peranakan Food Reimagined
For a taste of Singapore’s heritage, head to Candlenut, the world’s first Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant. They give a modern twist to traditional dishes like Buah Keluak Curry and Chap Chye, and everything is packed with flavor. The cozy ambiance at Dempsey Hill is just the cherry on top.

If you’re a brunch fan like me, PS.Café needs to be on your radar. Their Truffle Shoestring Fries and Sticky Date Pudding are iconic, and the relaxed vibe makes it perfect for lazy weekends.
8. Lolla – Small Plates, Big Flavors
I love the casual yet chic atmosphere at Lolla, where Mediterranean-inspired sharing plates take center stage. Their Sea Urchin Pudding is a must-try, and the communal dining style makes it ideal for catching up with friends.
9. Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle – Michelin-Starred Hawker Food
You don’t need to spend a fortune for Michelin-starred food in Singapore! Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle serves up a humble yet phenomenal bowl of Bak Chor Mee (minced pork noodles) that’s packed with flavor. Be ready to queue—it’s worth it.
10. Restaurant Labyrinth – Singaporean Classics Reinvented
Last but definitely not least, Labyrinth offers a truly unique dining experience. Chef Han Li Guang puts a modern twist on local dishes like Chili Crab Ice Cream and Nasi Lemak Sushi, creating playful yet delicious plates that are as fun as they are flavorful.
