In Tune With Crissmas
“Criss” Kringle’s coming to town a little early this year. And he’s got creative plans to spread some musical Yuletide cheer throughout the Motor City.
You might even say that it’s his civic duty.
“I’m in the service industry. As an entertainer, I’m here to play some music and take you through a bit of a holiday music Ted Talk,” says actor/singer/songwriter Darren Criss about his “A Very Darren Crissmas” tour coming to the Fisher Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 10. “Hopefully, people will leave with a little holiday pep in their step.”
Topping Criss’ concert playlist are songs from his A Very Darren Crissmas album which dropped in 2021. But because of the pandemic, Criss never got a chance to have a full-blown Christmas concert tour — until now.
“The album and tour showcase creative imaginings of classic tunes and rarely covered hidden gems along with two original Christmas songs,” says Criss, a 2009 Theatre Performance graduate of the University of Michigan.
Joining Criss on stage is fellow UM Wolverine and BFF Tomek Miernowski as his music director. Criss’ set list features “a wildly eclectic collection of songs from big band Christmas classics to novelty tunes and modern-day folk-pop ballads,” he says.
Long before the Crissmas album — which features duets with Adam Lambert, Lainey Wilson and Evan Rachel Wood — Criss was writing original songs for the hit TV series Glee which featured Criss in his breakout role as Blaine Anderson. In 2018, he won a Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Andrew Cunanan in The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. In addition, he recently starred in Netflix’s hit series Hollywood, for which he also served as executive producer. And Broadway fans will remember Criss’ star turns in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and American Buffalo with Laurence Fishburne and Sam Rockwell in 2022.
Though Criss won’t be able to squeeze in a visit to the Big House in Ann Arbor this time around, he’s already checking out the home game schedule for 2024.
“I make it my business to come back at least once a year, especially during football season,” says Criss, who attended nearly every game when he was a student. The last time Criss was in Michigan, he also visited the Motown Museum with his band.
“It was fun,” he says. “There’s a bit of Motown that’s infused in this album that was inspired by the Detroit sound. So, when we play [the Christmas concert at the Fisher Theatre], there will be a bit of a hometown vibe.”
Though Criss’ dad moved all over the country growing up, he spent his formative years in Detroit.
“So that’s why when I applied to the University of Michigan, and ultimately got in, it was such a big thing for me to be able to take my dad to the Big House for a football game. He hadn’t been to Michigan since he was 10. And I took him, easily, more than 50 years later to see a game there. That was a lot of fun,” Criss reminisced.
“I’ve got a lot of kinship with the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit.”

BEYONCÉ - "MY HOUSE"
youtube
Beyoncé drops too late for the Jukebox revival? Never mind, Wayne’s made sure we’re across it…
[5.43]
Aaron Bergstrom: It can be disorienting to remember that Beyoncé exists on the same plane of existence as the rest of us. After all, she's the alien superstar. She's one of one. Imagine Beyoncé eating a sandwich. It's not like she doesn't have influences, or contemporaries, but she's taken great pains to create a personal aesthetic of otherworldly perfection, and to position her most recent albums as self-contained objects that arrived fully formed, the product of a singular genius. She is above us, beyond us. Then you hear the first thirty seconds of "My House" and you realize, "Oh. Right. Houston." Beyoncé is from Houston. She comes from a lineage that is Southern, Texan, and influenced by identifiable strains of late-'90s and early-'00s hip hop. She does it better than pretty much anyone else, and by the end of the song she has transformed those fairly mainstream reference points into something that probably only she could make, but still. Real person, from Houston. Probably eats sandwiches. [8]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: We tend to grade artists on a curve after a certain point. Beyoncé has been making hits since two months before I was born -- how am I supposed to compare her to anyone aside from her? In this context "My House" is too much and not enough all at once. Beyond its literal status as an end credits song, the song still feels like a multilayered rehash -- emulating not only the thrills of Renaissance but also her long tradition of tossed off, post-album cycle excursions in swag rap. "My House" is fun but in its own way slightly threadbare -- it piles on boasts and hooks with an almost haphazard glee, with little regard to how these parts hold together. It's impressive, but only to the extent that "My House" feels like Beyoncé operating at roughly 50 percent of her usual capacity. [6]
Alex Ostroff: A slightly less fluid version of the "Pure/Honey" trick of stitching together two disparate songs. "Pure" started off as a cunty ballroom track, then shifted into the impeccable Vanity 6 riff of "Honey" -- and, importantly, Beyoncé convincingly embodied both modes perfectly. "My House" begins as aggressive rap and pivots into a minimal blippy-bloopy house track. Historically -- since at least a decade ago -- one would expect Bey to pull off the first half of this off more easily than the second. But after immersing herself in the sounds of Renaissance, she's more compelling imperiously telling the audience to get the fuck up out her house over top of chanting vogue crowds and gospel choirs. The first section has promise, but I can't help but wish the instrumental loop was a Homecoming-style marching band with a full drumline and a bunch of tubas instead of synths. Mostly, it makes me wish that Act II fulfills the promise of that "I Been On (Remix)" with Bun B, Scarface, et al. by giving us an entire chopped and screwed Houston rap album of Bey spitting fire. [7]
Nortey Dowuona: The drum programming on this starts off frustratingly bad. If it had been done by an actual drum line before cutting the coals, it would sound good, rather than demo arrangements done to prepare for the rehearsals. The actual arrangement below the chant sounds good -- it's just so flat it can't move, pump or jam. The mediocre choir chorus does work a cappella - it sounds full by at least four voices and ends on a warm note -- and the delicious bass stab towards the back end of the song does help, but it's already too late. This is why we rehearse, and why some songs have good ideas but don't make the album. Would you take off "Plastic Off the Sofa" for this? [3]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang:
Alien Superstar [10]
Heated [10]
Pure/Honey [10]
Plastic off the Sofa [9]
I'm that Girl [9]
Cuff It [9]
Cozy [9]
Virgo's Groove [8]
America Has a Problem [8]
Break My Soul [8]
Church Girl [8]
Thique [8]
Energy [8]
My House [7]
Move [7]
All Up in Your Mind [7]
Summer Renaissance [7]
*Subject to change [7]
Katherine St Asaph: One producer Beyoncé continually re-hires is The-Dream, even as her former, once-feted collaborators disappear from her unsparingly curated house. Hey, about that, remember how he was accused of assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend last decade? But it's not like this was enjoyable before I knew who produced it, either. [3]
Will Adams: Basically Renaissance's "7/11": a throwaway track, only mildly fun, ultimately a distraction from its otherwise exquisite parent album. That alone is enough of a disappointment from Beyoncé; in light of recent pushback, though, a lyric like "let's heal the world, one beautiful action at a time" makes it that much more eyebrow-raising. [4]
Taylor Alatorre: When I was young, I used to annoy my dad all the time during TV commercial breaks, asking why McDonald's or Coca-Coca had to run advertisements when every living person on the planet already knows what they are. Of course, at the age of seven, I had no knowledge of concepts like brand perception, market share, consumer loyalty -- for me the only purpose of an ad was to inform you that a product exists. However, there is something to the idea that companies often devote an excessive share of resources to marketing and PR as opposed to improving the quality of their goods and services, so maybe my seven-year-old self wasn't completely off-base. It is in that spirit that I ask: why does Beyoncé need to release a song like this when she is Already Beyoncé? [3]
Alfred Soto: Enough already. [5]
Brad Shoup: She's most believable on "get the fuck up out of my house": she strings the vogue and Dirty South sounds together like a top-of-the-line security system. I guess anything could be a revolution if you're the sun. [5]
Ian Mathers: I think the thing that most surprised me about "My House" is that it doesn't just sound like an end credits song, it sounds like a whole bunch of them. The part where the track downshifts feels just like when the credits cut from the maximalist, triumphant "credits song" that tends to get promoted as such to another track (usually by another artist, or maybe even just from the score). You can practically hear it switching to the part where each line of the credits has like four people in a row. But, crucially, it sounds like it does so for one hell of a movie. [8]
Micha Cavaseno: Y'know, of all the nostalgia ticks for Beyoncé to hit on a recent single... I wouldn't exactly have figured we'd get proto-crunk Atlanta Rap in the style of Hitman Sammy Sam while doing the cadence of Chuck Roberts to be something she'd go for. Transitioning it into electro-house rather than indulging in a brief detour over to Atlanta Bass is understandable, but I can't help but that might've been a perfect piece de résistance. Nevertheless, it's perfectly solid music that features Knowles really continuing to rely on dancefloor rollers instead of pop smashes or R&B storms to keep her concerts heavily anchored. She's clearly transitioned into a touring event rather than a mainstream presence, and it makes perfect sense the more she transitions into her "mother" stage: career, personal life, Beyhive Queen analogies, the gay icon definition... whatever perception you prefer. Beyoncé is now a force to herself in the way that few pop stars are lucky to solidify themselves as, and Knowles knows that her ship runs on fuel and showcase, less on staking and striving. [6]
David Moore: I didn't begrudge Renaissance its world-beating rep, but at the same time there was something inaccessible to me about the project; the whole thing seemed like if you ever tried to really touch it, someone would brusquely remind you to stay behind the rope. More than any other celebrity archetype, Beyoncé reminds me of a television star of the '90s who made the prestige move to cinema and never looked back, even as television and cinema merged into the same formless blob of Engaging Artistic Narrative Content: she's like George Clooney or Jennifer Aniston, carrying the torch of a pop culture upward mobility that everyone says they've moved past even though they still treat the legacy holdouts with the reverence of a bygone era. Of course, Beyoncé's music is usually much better than anything George Clooney or Jennifer Aniston does. (Usually.) [5]
Oliver Maier: A microcosm of the Renaissance experience: expertly put together, more structurally inventive and surprising than the vast majority of pop music currently doing the rounds, never electrifying. [6]

OT 2023 - GALA 3
Here's last gala!
This gala was so good omg?????? I am super impressed by all of them, I can't wait to see what they can do in like Gala 11. ALSO IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!! I figured out how to record my screen so I have done that with all the performances I will talk about below and I have put them on a google drive file, I will do this with all galas from now on in case you wanna check the full performances <3
Speaking of, here's the link to the gala 3 google drive folder with the performances !!!
Update 28/01. I've updated all links to the full performances in the gala.
Now let's go with the honorable mentions :)
I Kissed a Girl - Violeta and Chiara: Now this... this is yuri. I do not ship them but I'm happy for the girlies who do, the program knew what they were doing with this performance. I love the scenography and the choreography being extremely glee coded, and also THE LOCKERS PART ????? OH MY GOD???? Also also, i find it so funny how people got scandalized at the kiss at the end cause Violeta has a girlfriend... bestie the song is called I kissed a girl what did you think was gonna happen
Dime - OT 2023: First of all THEY UPLOADED THE FULL PERFORMANCE TO YOUTUBE LET'S REJOICE. And second of all... nothing but respect for my national anthem !!!!!! Dime is such a bop and they were so good... I'm so happy that they're slaying group songs it's what they deserve. ALSO THE BEGINNING WITH RUSLANA OMG
La canción más hermosa del mundo - Omar: I might have chose this song exclusively because I freaking love it... he did good as well honestly. He will be missed. Anyways, please listen to it, I actually prefer Manuel Carrasco's version (the one Omar covered! The original is by Joaquín Sabina btw). And it's super long so I'm glad they kept my favourite line for this version, '¿Qué harías tú si Adelita se fuera con un comisario?' ('What would you do if Adelita eloped with a policeman?') which is a reference to a very famous Lorca play and <333333
Top 3 below!
3. TÓMAME O DÉJAME - NAIARA
youtube
Here is the original song, by Mocedades <3
Just... wow. She has the first solo of the edition, and I predict that, just with the previous first solos (Aitana, Julia and Flavio) she will be a finalist. For sure. Honestly she could even win. Naiara has the best voice of the edition, and she shined more than ever with this song. Absolutely incredible. Also, speaking of the song !!! The lyrics are absolutely brutal, I would say this is one of the most heart-wrenching songs ever written in Spanish. It is about a woman that knows her husband has a lover and she's trying to keep it together. It's incredible, really, 10/10 no notes.
2. INMORTAL - MARTIN & RUSLANA:
youtube
Here is the original song by La Oreja de Van Gogh !!!!!!
If you have followed me for a while you KNOW how I feel about La Oreja de Van Gogh so you can imagine how happy I was they were doing Inmortal !!! And they were so good !!!! Martin and Ruslana are the youngest of the bunch and they have an adorable friendship, you can see the chemistry! Also they're both incredible actors, I am obsessed with the acting in the final performance, just *chef's kiss*
1. UNHOLY - BEA, JUANJO & ÁLVARO:
youtube
Here is the original song, by Sam Smith and Kim Petras :)
This is the reason I learned to screen record on my computer YOU NEED TO WATCH THE GALA PERFORMANCE. Easily the best and most iconic performance of the edition for now. I was speechless all the performance, the three of them were perfect and everything was just... insane. Álvaro was in his comfort zone and he looked so happy, Juanjo demonstrated his INSANE VERSATILITY like no one is doing it like him. And Bea... deserved favorite. Absolutely the best in the gala. She HAS to be a finalist. Honestly the three of them should.
And that's everything!!! I'm posting this the day after Gala 4 so I already know how everything goes lol. I'll post the gala 4 top 3 tomorrow :)
#vivitalksot#ot 2023#ot#operacion triunfo#a lot of things happened last week (especially on tuesday) so. i was not able to even think about doing this post lol#anyways. gala 4 will be posted tomorrow <3#ALSO PLEASE WATCH THE UNHOLY VIDEO YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED THEY WERE SO GOOD#Youtube

— GOJO SATORU + GETO SUGURU || SHORT AND EASILY DISTRACTED S/O
↳ featuring : gojo satoru + geto suguru from jujutsu kaisen
↳ warnings : grammar issues
↳ form : headcanons
↳ published : 05 march
↳ pronouns : non specified in headcanon
↳ request : hey!!! soo, can I request a hc with gojo and geto with a short girlfriend who gets distracted easily? so she gets lost in the crowd and they are very worried ~ thanks!!!
↳ barista’s notes : everyone, i just wanted to say that Genshin Impact’s trailer song for Zhongli is legit on repeat for me..like it’s so calming yet so tense and exciting for some reason ʕ→ᴥ← ʔ but it makes me remember that he has issues with mona in general ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ other than that, i hope you enjoy your cup of classic black coffee (jujutsu kaisen request!) and you’re welcomed back anytime soon!
Since the day Gojo saw you, he thought you were really adorable due to your height and will just constantly gush about you.
Even though he finds you cute, he will tease you about it by carrying you everywhere in weird ways - like how he carried Itadori when he was fighting Jogo.
But he really likes your height since that is just another resting place for his head since he will place his chin on top of your head - and it’s easy to access since he follows you everywhere like the clingy man he is.
However, the one thing he absolutely hates about your shortness is when you disappear in crowds at the most random times.
You think with his tall height, he would be able to find you in some way because he has advanced sight due to his eye level as well as his Six Eye - but nope, you are Houdini.
Gojo does laugh for a bit before telling you to come out of your hiding space (like when does someone randomly plays hide and seek without informing the person) before he begins to slowly realise that you have just randomly disappeared.
He does worry since he doesn’t know what might go after you or what you could be doing but once he finds you, he will act like you were gone for like a whole week…
Like chill dude…..I was just looking at some really cute macaroons in this cafe.
However if Gojo doesn’t find you at all, he will call you and will cry on the phone asking you where you are and what were you thinking about leaving him alone by himself.
You’ll probably have to be the one that goes to find him since he keeps whining down the phone about you abandoning him when in reality you bought something for you and him to eat.
If it is sweets, he will look at you with such glee before forgiving you with a big hug and kiss since he actually did miss you, even if it was just like 10 minutes.
When Geto meets you for the first time, of course, he is going to notice the height difference between you both since you are quite short.
Like Gojo, he will tease you a bit by placing a hand on top of your head while lifting the other around his height to show you the difference - just for fun.
Another way he would tease you is by resting his arm on top of your head since, once again, it’s just a funny sight to him.
However, one thing he does worry about is how distracted you are like anything can catch your attention.
Unlike Gojo, he is more aware of you when you both go on missions or dates together - around 95.5% of the time he is.
The other 4.5% is when he will lose his guard of you for some reason - maybe because you haven’t got distracted for a while - and when he turns to see you gone, he will just stare at where you were (you know those anime edits where they’ll draw the outline of the person when they dash..yeah like that)
I feel like he is more rational than Gojo and will probably think of many places where you could be before making his way to find you.
If he can’t find you at all (which is surprising since he always does like 99% of the time) he will call you since he has no other choice.
If you answer, he will kindly ask where you are and will take his time with you since he knows that you just notice something that you found interesting and went straight to it.
If you do not answer his call, Geto will become worried but will somehow remain calm and will continue looking for you.
He will scold you for a bit before teasing you for being such a shortass that he couldn’t find you for a good 10 minutes.

In the spirit of obsessing even more over Mine, I can’t help but parallel the parent/father lyrics in the song with what Santana sings in At The Ballet. Yes, I am absolutely reading too much into it, and am certain Glee probably did this by accident, but that’s two songs now where Santana paints a not-so-nice picture of her father in song. Then on top of that, we have:
Santana mentioning during Lights Out that her being a tomboy as a kid really pissed her Dad off.
The general impression that he’s an absent Father, given Santana seems to have spent a lot of time with her Abuela growing up.
The Pezberry bathroom scene in 5x13 where Rachel offers Santana the lead in 10 FG shows as a peace offering. She says something like “your Mom can come, or your Abuela.” Why not “your parents?” Rachel lived with Santana for months. Does she know something we don’t?
His absence from the wedding (definitely a casting issue, but also technically canon, so…)
I’m adding two and two together and coming up with twenty eight here, but that’s pretty much what all of us do when it comes to Glee, so I don’t care. The pieces kind of fit together to indicate quite a rocky childhood for Santana, and her Dad maybe being the cause of a lot of that? He clearly accepted her sexuality when she came out though, so I don’t think he was evil or anything. Just maybe a little careless, (to borrow from Taylor lol)?
Honestly, this isn’t even an ask I just ended up rambling haha. But if you have any thoughts on how Mine might relate to Santana’s family life at all (which I suspect you do), I’d enjoy reading them, as always.
Tumblr just deleted half my answer which... this hellsite underestimates my willingness to go on and on about Santana Lopez, I shall not be stopped. So here we go again!
Mr/Dr Lopez is an interesting case because Glee never cared to actually give him anything but there's much to speculate. I think, we had to choose, I'd read more in At the Ballet just on the basis of diegesis but at the same time there isn't a single second in the Mine scene I'm not obsessed with so of course we can also take that into consideration.
There's no reason we couldn't put two and two together and come up with twenty eight. Based on what canon gives us, Santana's relationship with her dad could easily be quite strained and distant. I think his absence from the wedding is something I can't quite, like, take at face value, just because his only(? lmao) daughter's wedding is such a huge thing to miss when even his homophobic mother was there and he's supposedly cool with the lesbian daughter thing. So I think just for me personally I'll elect to ignore the fact that he was nowhere to be seen the same way that I don't accept the absence of Quinn. We could make it work logically but every variation makes me sad lol.
When it comes to Mine, there are two bits that are relevant here: “careless man’s careful daughter”, of course, and this:
You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
I love this first line from a Brittana perspective (and the way Naya sings it, forever sobbing) but Brittana aside, “parents’ mistakes” implies a lot here. If we put it into the context of the implied cheating in At the Ballet and what Santana says right after singing Mine, there’s a case to be made here. Based on everything, it’s not wild to assume Dr. Lopez cheated on Maribel and they might still be married and technically together because that’s how they roll but not actually a couple anymore. I think Santana’s breakup speech substantiates that, what with her letting Brittany go only to prevent an even bigger heartbreak “when someone eventually cheats” - telling words here. And yes, we can also contextualize this within the episode because she’s talking about long-distance relationships here and possibly talking about the other two breakups but the Mine and At the Ballet lyrics both support this.
Not to turn this into a “Santana’s complicated relationship with the concept of cheating” post (which I’ll inevitably write anyway as soon as someone reminds me to) but her mature decision in Mine could easily be interpreted as a lesson she learned from her parents’ mistakes. So she breaks both her and Brittany’s hearts now in order to protect themselves from an even bigger potential pain in the future, perhaps one she experienced as a kid when Dr. Lopez cheated. Honestly this would just add yet another layer to the Mine scene which I already adore every second of. It fits with careless man’s careful daughter, too, because like you say maybe Dr. Lopez isn’t evil or anything but careless with how his actions affected his family and so Santana grew to become careful in the sense that she keeps her heart guarded. And affected her own attitudes towards cheating but, another post. I’ve also read interpretations where Mine is a narrative switcharoo and it’s actually referring to Brittany and Pierce, him being the careless man. But that’s just a btw and a whole other interpretation.
So the thing is, I fully went into this post wanting to say that there is a reading of Mine (and everything else) where Dr. Lopez cheated but stating that I personally choose not to look at it that way. But then I wrote all this down twice so now I’m like, maybe I convinced myself? Him being sorta distant but also trying and not actually a bad guy has always been reading of Dr. Lopez and even in the At the Ballet post I said that the cheating could just be an emotional truth rather than what actually happened. But now that you made me think about Mine I’m gonna run with yeah, he probably had an affair or two and it caused him to have a strained relationship with both Maribel and, inevitably, Santana. But I still maintain that in her young adult years/twenties they reconnect and find a way to make their dynamic work because Dr. Lopez might be a careless man in some ways but, and this really is just a HC, I think he’d learn to make an effort with his daughter. They stay together with Maribel and he as well as Alma do a lot of growing.
The main reason I believe he was fundamentally trying with Santana and would make an effort is because of, all things, IKAG (derogatory) and that one line about both of Santana’s parents being okay with her sexuality. It’s not much but after the implications of him having disliked her tomboy phase, I think it implies that he does actually accept her but has his own growing to do. But maybe that’s just me not wanting Santana to have much more baggage than she already does.

don’t be shy… share your kurt solo ranking 👀👀
Patricia my love, thank you for this question <333
this was very hard, not counting a couple songs I adore his voice, also I'm blinded by love, besides the bottom 1, I would die for the rest of them, the top 5 were impossible to do.
Kurt Hummel's Solos Ranked
1. being alive
anyone who knows me knows how much I adore this one, you know you've got it bad when you have a whole meta talking about it, not only does he sound brilliant but basically everything about it, it's all I ask for in a Kurt solo, it features his low register, it's emotionally packed, and it includes belting that doesn't feel unnecessary.
2. as if we never said goodbye
the first Kurt solo I remember listening to, and this one will always have a special place for me, it's perfect for him, vocally he sounds immaculate, the whispering?? but also power belts?? the emotions??? sir how am I supposed to handle that.
3. not the boy next door
deserve this place solely for the gold lame pants, seriously though, him not getting into NYADA with this song is a villain origin story.
4. rose's turn
he understood the assignment, I hate that it's not top 3 but ahh it's his fault for having so many top-tier songs.
5. i want to hold your hand
where do I begin, it's beautiful, it's *chef's kiss*, my beloved.
6. I'm still here
iconic, impeccable, breathtaking, he ate it up.
7. le jazz hot
the iconic bit at the end?? the attitude??? he served, ate it up, good for him.
8. blackbird
underrated af, despite being so good??? the whole thing is a power move btw.
9. bring him home
imagine being Hugh Jackman and having a twink on gleek sing your own song better than you twice, rip. he easily won above everyone else, this song especially showcases one of Kurt's best qualities which is making the song his own and singing the emotions so vivdly.
10. pink houses
I unironically adore this one, it's charming, I like the subtle dramatism of it, something about his low register is enchanting, also the growl (???) is one of my favorite things for some reason, I'm Brittany watching Kurt perform it.
11. some people
it's so fun, I like it, also fuck you Jesse, the performance is the reason it's so high. the energy?? I vibe
12. a house is not a home
He sounds amazing considering s1?? also baby cheerio Kurt my beloved
13. I'm the greatest star
it's a fantastic solo, ft. sai swords, it's lowkey better than rachel's, I would have chosen a different song though.
14. I have nothing
disclaimer I'm the only one allowed to criticize this song because I listen to it religiously and I do it with love.
it's brilliant, stunning, but just because he can hit high notes doesn't mean he should do it on every single song, if they just lowered the key, it would have been better.
15. you are the sunshine of my life
it's forgettable, although that might have to do with the fact I just don't like wonder-ful, it's pretty cute, I don't have anything against it.
16. don't cry for me argentina
my go-to version of this one is the hummelberry duet, it's not bad, it's pretty great actually.
17. defying gravity (s5)
I hate the glee pop rendition of defying gravity but this one is pretty good all things aside.
i don't acknowledge s1 defying gravity
18. I'll remember
i'd fist-fight this one in a parking lot, it's very mediocre, a bad choice for many reasons, also the context is shit.
#top 10 my beloved#they did him dirty with some of those#glee#myle's ranking#c: blackbird#myle mumbles answers#patricia <3#asks

random rhythm heaven facts i know off the top of my head for some reason
uh i’m bored so. have random rhythm heaven facts that i just. know. for some reason.
despite being the only game in the series to not have any lyrical remixes, ds is tied with fever for the most original lyrical songs, with each having five. ds has thrilling! is this love?, love ooh ooh paradise, young love rock n’ roll, struck by the rain, and that’s paradise; fever has tonight, lonely storm, dreams of our generation, i love you my one and only, and beautiful one day.
i emphasize “original” because without that, megamix beats fever and ds, having around eleven lyrical songs in total; only counting original lyrical songs, megamix has three (tokimeki no story/lush remix’s music, i’m a lady now/honeybee remix’s music, and um. whatever machine remix’s song is. in the english version though it only has one original lyrical song).
tengoku has four lyrical songs: karate man’s song (which like. idk if it even has a name- does it get name privileges-), the bon odori, honey sweet angel of love, and wish - can’t wait for you.
the fastest song is in ds; big rock finish c’s bpm is 290. the second fastest is also a ds game, namely remix 4, with,,, i believe 222 bpm?
the slowest game is built to scale and built to scale 2; at their slowest, their bpm is 60.
while endless games’ bpm is all over the place due to speeding up, clap trap literally has no (or at least no known) bpm. somehow.
no i don’t know anything about music.
i do, though, know remix 10′s bpm off the top of my head. it’s 166 in case you were curious. remix 10 ds’ bpm is 160. remix 6,,, it’s 138.7 or something like that? idk the exact decimal number. left-hand remix’s bpm is 120 i think. i have no idea on right-hand remix’s. and final remix starts at 160 bpm, increases to 170 at the end, and finally, ends at 180 bpm.
i have memorized the controls for literally every game. no i will not list them here because that’d take too long.
lockstep is the only ds keep-the-beat game to not have flick controls.
barelys (early/late inputs that are too early/late to count as hits) usually count as misses, but there’s a few exceptions to this:
some games will have barelys allow you to pass the practice, but then not actually count in the game itself. the main offender of this is flipper-flop. flipper-flop’s barelys make it so hard to perfect dear god-
in ds, three games’ perfect campaigns count barelys as hits, those being shoot-’em-up, frog hop, and lockstep. despite this, they still count as misses when playing normally, meaning you can get a perfect that wouldn’t be a superb. that always happens to me when i play lockstep 2.
most games have clear indicators for when you got a barely, though some are relatively similar to a miss, but some games have literally no indicator of barelys. unsurprisingly, all but one are in ds:
the games in question are glee club (sometimes; i’m guessing it’s when it’s still a barely but it’s right on the line between barely and early/late hit) moai doo-wop, love lizards, space soccer, and, in fever, shrimp shuffle. this means that a perfect campaign can end despite everything seeming completely fine. (sometimes you can tell you got it wrong, but it can be difficult, personally the only one i can tell in is shrimp shuffle and also space soccer sometimes).
barelys always count as misses in megamix. due to this, barelys mess up perfects on shoot-’em-up, frog hop, and lockstep. yet for some reason, barelys still let you pass flipper-flop’s practice. i have no idea why since in literally every other instance they’re a fail, but they do.
there’s like three beats for keep-the-beat games (games where you have to press a/tap/whatever every beat). this is easily seen in megamix’s final remix, where there’s a part where it smoothly transitions between flock step, frog hop, and bunny hop, and then cues you into marching orders (which is likely just due to the bunny hop part ending with a long jump).
the main beat is shared between almost every keep-the-beat game. all the undeniable keep-the-beat games use it.
rhythm rally and air rally,,, i think both have the same beat? i don’t know though. i don’t know if either of them can even count as keep-the-beat games tbh.
donk-donk and shrimp shuffle both have unique beats, which i guess brings it up to four different beats.
yet again, no, i do not know what any of this means.
there’s eight karate man games (both of tengoku’s, both of ds’, both of fever’s, and both of megamix’s original karate man games). a karate man game has appeared in literally every game and i don’t know why.
fan club’s bpm is like 132 or something like that? i mean that’s at least what rhythm heaven remix editor says the “ooh”’s bpm is at i think. it might be 162. i really don’t remember.
i’ve memorized the entirety of remix 10, remix 10 ds, and remix 6. so that’s a thing. though sometimes remix 6 messes me up when i’m just trying to remember it without playing. i can’t memorize megamix’s medley remixes for the life of me.
i’ve also memorized remix 8 because of course i have, who’s surprised at this point?
quiz show is a game that exists. it’s interesting in that you don’t have to follow rhythm at all. it’s a repeat-after-me game, but all that matters is that you press the button(s) the same amount of times.
it also ends if you get a question wrong, and unless it was the last one, that gives you an immediate try again. it’s one of three games to end prematurely, the other two being the night walk games (night walk 2 can also end prematurely).
it only has music playing at the beginning for some reason.
did i mention it got into megamix instead of an actually good game? instead of an actual rhythm game? in rhythm heaven?
megamix’s english dubbing sucks.
they seemingly had a low budget, so i will cut them some slack, but that doesn’t stop the fact that it’s terrible.
the title cards for games use the same few fonts, while in previous games they nearly all had original fonts.
none of the original songs got dubbed. instead they’re just instrumental. and dear god do i hate it. thus, with english audio, the only remix song is i’m a lady now, which is in english in all versions.
space dance and marching orders. just,,, space dance and marching orders. dear god.
luckily, and possibly due to the dubbing, megamix has the option to change between english and japanese audio. i have no idea if that’s only in the english version or if it’s in other languages’ translations, but it’s nice either way.
ds just straight-up lies to you. at the beginning of the game, it says it’s completely controlled with the touch screen, but then in the game right before remix 10, the r-button is used.
due to this rockers 2 sucks on emulator.
ds has too many repeat-after-me games, i can think of five off the top of my head. ds’ repeat-after-me games also aren’t even that good? moai doo-wop sucks, shoot-’em-up and love lab are fine i guess, i like freeze frame, and drummer duel’s pretty fun (though i’m pretty sure it’s just spam? is this spam heaven now? where did the rhythm go?).
this probably doesn’t make sense to like ninety percent of you. 😔
#puppy rambles#rhythm heaven on main#i like when i'm bored so i just ramble about random rhythm heaven crap on main#that should probably logically go on my sideblog#but i mean there's a ninety percent chance i've rambled about it there#god i really do only mention tengoku like twice in the entirety of this post#i barely know anything about tengoku#i've played it but i barely know anything about it#other than polyrhythm 2 is rhythm purgatory#polyrhythm's a good game#but polyrhythm 2? rhythm purgatory

The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan
Released: 27 May 1963
Rating: 10/10
The birth of a legend. Having just turned 22 when the album was released, this is an unbelievably confident body of work, featuring some of Bob’s most beloved songs and his incredible singing voice in full swing. The song writing is years ahead of it’s time and is a masterclass in poetry, social justice, and the effect folk music can have on culture.
1) Blowin’ In The Wind - Perhaps his most famous song, this anti-war protest is timeless. As much as Bob hated being labelled as a ‘protest singer’ or ‘topical song writer’, there’s no denying this rallying cry for peace will live on for centuries to come.
2) Girl From The North Country - Presumably written for his then girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, when their relationship was strained due to her studying in Italy. The tune and lyrics are heavily inspired by ‘Scarborough Fair’, but this is a beautiful love song, and would later be improved by Johnny Cash duetting with Bob in 1969.
3) Masters Of War - The beauty of Bob’s writing is that it seems as if the songs could have been written yesterday, their relevance remains fresh and urgent (which is more a damning indictment of society over the last 60 years). I love this song, the anger and hatred is spewing from each syllable, and you can’t help but join him in feeling enraged at those in power with no regard for life.
4) Down The Highway - More of a throwaway song compared to the above, it’s still a nice little blues number, which again mentions Suze in Italy. It’s a common theme of the album, and fairly ironic considering Bob would cheat on her with Joan Baez soon after.
5) Bob Dylan’s Blues - A fun, surreal song which feels almost improvised. It’s a nice break from some of the album’s more prominent heavy themes.
6) A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall - I mean... fucking hell. Allen Ginsberg said he cried when he heard this, as he felt that the torch had been passed to the next generation. You could read the lyrics in a poetry book and only assume it was written by a scholar who’d spend decades perfecting the craft. It covers themes of war, death, desperation and is easily one of the top 3 best written songs of all time. Also, the Rolling Thunder Revue (1975/6) version is a lot more upbeat, but is still a hell of a great tune.
7) Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright - Again, a song for Suze and her leaving for Europe. However, this is possibly the most perfect, bitter/romantic song in recorded history. It’s full of heartache, longing, love and confusion, and I can’t say anything else except that I adore it and every reworked version Dylan has done since.
8) Bob Dylan’s Dream - Based on a traditional ballad, ‘Lady Franklin’s Lament’, this is a bittersweet, nostalgic song about friends lost and memories fading. The singing is spot on, and it once again proves that although he was only 22, Bob’s soul was much older.
9) Oxford Town - A song about race relations and civil rights, in response to the University of Mississippi’s segregation of black students. Dylan was the reason I took an interest in civil rights at a young age, and this song is a great example why. He writes about the most important issues of the time in such a scathing way, then puts it with a fun little ditty that allows you to pay attention to the words.
10) Talkin World War III Blues - The ‘talkin’ style that Bob loved so much is perfected here. It’s a funny song about world annihilation, and ends with one of my favourite Bob lines: “I’ll let you be in my dream, if I can be in yours”. The live performances of this song had the audience in hysterics, and I imagine it was almost relieving to hear a satirical take on the most terrifying threat imaginable.
11) Corrina, Corrina - The one song on the album that Bob didn’t write/adapt the lyrics, it’s a nice, relaxed love song that is short and sweet, but lovely nonetheless. Also, Dylan’s singing is flawless here.
12) Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance - This is an interesting one, whilst there aren’t many lyrics and it’s mostly harmonica, the few spoken words are on the familiar theme of losing a lover and trying to get them back. However, Bob is clearly having fun singing it, and it’s a jarring juxtaposition between the pleas in his words but the glee in his voice. Overall though, the song is fairly forgettable and it’s easy to see why it’s tucked away at the end of the album.
13) I Shall Be Free - Another weak closing song unfortunately, especially when compared to the rest of the album. There’s nothing particularly wrong with it, it’s just a bit of an odd note to end on following on from such heavy hitting songs. Perhaps Dylan thought it would be a more upbeat note to end on?
Verdict: Despite a couple of weaker songs, this is still the first of many masterpieces to come from Bob. It’s a tour de force in almost every aspect, from the instrumentation to the glorious vocals, but as with a lot of his work, the writing is the star of the show. It’s no wonder why he was hailed as the voice of his generation, and why he is still widely recognised as the greatest lyricist of all time.

to kiss is religion.
Characters/Pairings: Pike & Scanlan, Pikelan
Summary: [~1.5k words, TSAR ‘verse] that scene in chapter 10 where Pike tells Scanlan where upon her body he may kiss except it’s Scanlan’s POV. Warnings: mostly PG but mildly PG-13 because Scanlan’s mind can go places so fast
Notes: thank you @thesylversmyth for this suggestion! This one was particularly fun, because I’ve always had a pretty clear map of what Scanlan’s mindset was during that scene. It was a joy to bring it out!
Pike turns her head from his kiss, and Scanlan sighs. “I understand,” he mumbles, though his eyes stay glued to the corner of her lips he can still see. He can wait. He’s waited a decade already and spent half of it restless and breathless and aching for her. To have her in his arms, smiling at him, the bluest eyes shining above the most adorable flushed cheeks. That’s enough. She wants him at all. That’s more than enough.
He can wait.
Still — “Is there anywhere I may kiss?” Her blush-pink cheeks. Her freckled nose. The scar that bisects her left eyebrow. There’s so many nuances to her that he longs to touch. The delicate curl of her hair around the shell of her ear. Her adorable chin and the tempting dip just above it. Words and poetry and songs are one thing. To touch is another. His hands are rough and calloused, could never be as soft as she deserves, but if he could press his lips to her loveliest details...
Pike laughs and gives his ear a playful tug. “You’re awfully bold considering we’ve only been dating for 15 minutes.”
Dating. What a rush. Scanlan grins; he can’t help it. He’s dating Pike Trickfoot, and he feels freer than he has in years, free to give himself up to the bubbling glee in his gut — slightly manic and too much but maybe that’s just what happiness feels like.
“Well, I can tell you I certainly didn’t make it in the business by being shy, baby,” he says with a wink, living for the laughter it wins from her. He’s glad that he can still be this way with her, reckless with his flirtations and charm. He’s glad that she wants him this way and that she wants him this way just as much as she wants him when he’s disgustingly sincere and mushy.
She wants him at all.
How did he get so fucking lucky?
With her chin aloft in play, Pike presents him the back of her hand.
“Ah, yes! A kiss upon the hand.” Scanlan falls easily into his part. “Chaste. Perfect for our Victorian wooing.”
He grasps her fingers delicately in his and pulls them to his lips. He only means to kiss once, but his lips meet the soft skin just above her knuckles and he’s memorized. Treacherously, he thinks of her lips. Will they be as soft, if he’s ever lucky enough to kiss them? He lets his lips move along the dips between her knuckles. The skin there is smooth and cool from the evening air.
If he closes his eyes, if he lets his mind wander...Are her lips as wind-chilled?
Gods, what he wouldn’t give to warm them.
A frantic wash of want builds in the back of his throat and, in a meager show of self-control, he pulls back a breath — a shaky, heavy breath — only to return his lips to her skin once more. And, he understands in that moment, in that wondrous blip of time that his lips linger upon the back of her hand, how repression can breed sexual depravity. He gets it. Where they connect, hand in hand and lips to skin, he tingles. Hyper-sensitive. Hyper-aware. Remember the way she feels, a voice in the back of his mind speaks amongst a swirl of fragmented verses and bars. I could get off to the high of this kiss alone for weeks.
Yeah, he fucking gets it.
Reluctantly, he relents, letting his lips enjoy one last drag as he lifts his gaze to hers.
Her eyes are wide, a cloudless blue sky amongst the darkness around them, and her lips are temptingly parted. He knows that look. He’s seen it on the face of every lover he’s taken to bed or, at least, the ones whose faces he can still remember. She’s charmed. She wants him and, if he worked that much more, he could have her.
A shiver runs down his spine, feeling far too much like a spark rushing towards the gasoline-soaked desire in his gut, and yet he finds the voice to speak:
“Anywhere else?”
Pike turns shyly from his gaze, shuffling and dropping her chin to her chest. Scanlan sees her play and, breathing back the push in him to chase the crack in her resolve, he resumes his playful part. He gasps. He ‘oh’s. He gives his review.
“A kiss upon the top of your head? Of course! A classic. Underrated, if you ask me, and – ” He curls a hand around her shoulder, pulling her more securely into him and pressing his lips to her hair. She overtakes him. Her shampoo, bright and sweet, like the first bite of a ripe fruit. Her warmth, legs over his lap, body curled into his side, infectious and tucked around him, like a handmade quilt that smells like home. He feels dizzy with the weight of her against him, on him, deep within him because every second more she’s in his arms, he can feel her settling further into his bloodstream.
Scanlan pulls away, slowly, breath quivering, only to bump his head back to hers, nuzzling where he once kissed. His lips brush close to her ear. Not quite touching but enough to tease her. When she giggles, just as he hoped, he smiles and whispers, “...and...best paired with a bit of a snuggle.”
Pike places a hand over his on her shoulder, and something in Scanlan loosens and falls away at the touch. A restraint done away. A weight lifted. Like she cupped some unseen, hidden burden in him, cradled it as if it were a bird and told it, “It’s safe now. Be free. Fly,” and it did.
When she pushes her forehead to hers, he can see in her eyes that, in some small way, he’s done the same for her.
No one’s ever looked at him in that way.
No one’s ever seen him as a source of comfort. No one’s ever lain in his arms and trusted that he would take their burdens and make them something beautiful, something that flies away.
He could kiss her now, and she’d let him.
She’d let him, and she’d cherish him.
No one’s ever done that.
Again, he asks her: “Anywhere else?”
He needs to hear her say it. Kiss me. Better yet, he needs her to take that first leap, that little lean towards him, that subtle, not-subtle look towards his lip as she waits for him to meet her in the middle. He needs it to be her choice. A decade he’s waited for her to want him. He could not live with their first kiss being something taken rather than something gifted and shared.
But, Pike does not ask. She presses her forehead more resolutely to his and, in turn, he falls fully into his part. He laughs and singsongs and kisses her forehead — a quick, simple kiss. When Pike stays shy afterwards, hiding her gaze and toying with the collar of his shirt, he becomes the resolve she needs to stay true to herself.
“You may kiss me wherever you please,” he says, his smile like a mischievous curl of a fox’s tail. When she peeks up at him, nose scrunching, he knows he’s done the right thing. There’s a softness to her blue eyes, and he chases it, waggling his eyebrows and adding, “In fact, I am a big proponent for exploration.”
When Pike joins in with his act, teasing and encouraging his dramatics, the early tension that hung between them shimmers away.
A decade — That’s how long Scanlan has waited for Pike to want him. A month ago, he could only hope she felt the same. A day ago, he could only dream that she’d at least be kind in her rejection. Now, he’s here within her space, held by her, holding her, hands intertwined and smiles matching. She touches him so gently; he could cry. As he falls back against the stone of the porch, head smarting but laughter no less sincere, he swears he almost does. Her hand is warm on the back of his head, and he’s waited so long to be wanted by her at all; he would wait twice as long for some silly kiss. Just let him have this, and he’d wait forever.
May she always want him.
May he always deserve it.
He prays.
As the night goes on about them, bugs buzzing against the porch light, sky darkening with every blink, the breeze barely able to slip between them, Scanlan gazes up at Pike and her adoring eyes and pretty smile. Adoring him. Smiling because of him. She dips her forehead to his, and he can barely dare to breathe, to blink, to be anywhere but there in that moment with her. As hers.
He prays.

America’s Got Talent: Season 15 - Quarter-Finals 2
Kenan Thompson was likable...I mean, of course, he's likable on SNL, I thought he was a good judge on “Bring the Funny” last year (yes, I watched that...I enjoyed it! I'm hoping for a second season, but it IS looking very uncertain...) Tonight, he seemed pretty quiet, but he still peppered in some jokes here and there to make Howie look like a straight man (COMEDIC straight man, not...ya know...) So I guess tonight, Howie was the Simon Cowell...
Also, major props to Heidi for her bravery in showing up even after her shirt got caught in the elevator door and torn all over, not even bothering to go to her dressing room to change it...That takes some real guts and an odd fashion sense, let me tell ya! (Or just the latter, I guess...)
Also, also, we got quite a few basic social distancing violations tonight...I guess people are less cautious now, but I still suggest we all tread carefully...
Okay, onto the acts...
11: Kameron Ross. That Lady Gaga song can make for a good belt, but Kameron isn't much of a belter, so it just came off as awkward and stiff...
10: Vincent Marcus. When I talked about his odds last week, there was another factor that I considered not long after I posted it, but didn't bother talking about then...That factor is that his audition was going to be a tough act to follow! His choices on what to do next looked very limited...And it REALLY showed tonight! I'm sorry, but repeating the premise of his audition just wasn't going to work! Now he's pigeonholed himself as that guy who impersonates rappers doing nursery rhymes...It worked great for his audition because he knew which rappers he was best at and what nursery rhymes he could cleverly incorporate their rap styles with...Here, he just seemed to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks, his impressions weren't as solid, and I couldn't even hear which nursery rhyme he was doing a lot of the time! The one thing he still has going for him though is his likable personality and enjoyable sense of humor...Plus he cut that silly pompadour!
9: Voices of Our City Choir. A good song choice for them, having the backing choir appear as a hologram was interesting, and that guy from the package sure knew how to William Shatner it up! Otherwise, this did little for me...I preferred their jazzy, Sade-sounding original song...Also, I miss that slam poet old lady, she was cool!
8: The Shape. The mysterious, previously unseen act with the equally mysterious name has finally revealed themselves! And they were...fun, I guess...Overall, it was another standard dance group, though they do get some points for the costumes (and the clever use of face masks).
7: Jonathan Goodwin. You know, I'm not usually the most keen observer, but even I could tell that he was basically fidgeting with the key to stall for maximum suspense...I guess turning himself into the Human Torch was an interesting spectacle, but this escape doesn't measure up to, say, Spencer Horsman...I give him props for the very real danger, but this just wasn't at the level of his JC performance...
6: Kelvin Dukes. I'd say going for upbeat and fun was the right decision for Kelvin...His singing isn't the greatest I've heard, but he does have a very likable personality that greatly benefits from the Bruno Mars approach. (I mean, he had a patch on his jacket that said “Mars”, so that should tell you plenty...) Also, I guess it serves as a nice tribute to that chick from “Glee” who was recently killed...
5: BONAVEGA. So that's what happens when Billy Idol has a lovechild with Dee Snider! He really didn't need to cover The Weeknd...Sure, that song is one of the most delightfully 80s throwbacks I've heard, but nothing beats his original songs and mad guitar skills! All said, who does he think he's kidding when he says he's bringing back the 80s!? I'd say works like “Ready Player One” and everything Finn Wolfhard stars in have been doing that just fine...While he may be a guaranteed out tomorrow, I would still love to see one last set from him as a wildcard!
4: Daneliya Tuleshova. I gotta hand it to this girl, she seems to know what she's doing! I've been feeling since the beginning that she was holding back in her audition, so that she could keep getting better with each round...She has some articulation issues, but otherwise her range is amazing! While I haven't quite joined the hundreds on the Daneliya hype train yet, I am looking forward to seeing how she does as the game progresses...She might even outlast Roberta!
3: Alexis Brownley & The Puppy Pals. There's just something I love about these precious youngsters having a fun time with their dogs set to upbeat music with these fun, colorful sets! I loved the film studio themed set and props, and we saw a few new and/or impressive tricks as well! I'm tellin' ya, little girls seem to make the best dog trainers!
2: BAD Salsa. Ever since V.Unbeatable, I have been acquiring a taste for some good ol’ Bollywood dance music! And THESE TWO need to star in a Bollywood movie together! I don't really have much to add...America may have talent, but India's Got Moves!
1: Spyros Bros. If I was an actual judge on the show right now, I would be bragging on and on about picking a good Golden Buzzer! They stepped up the tricks big time, and picked the most amazing set ever! (All that was missing was if they turned into Itchy and Scratchy and brutally assaulted each other with their giant yo-yos!) I just hope the whole pre-recorded aspect doesn't hurt their chances, because I really do think they should be in the finals!
I still had mixed opinions for quite a few acts, but I would say it was overall a step up from last week...
My Votes: Unfortunately, due to the hour-long DNC interruption (at least where I live), and my tendency to wait until the end of the show to vote, I missed my chance to vote on my TV...But I still used both my AGT app and the NBC website to throw some votes toward BAD, Spyros and Jonathan (yes, I was a bit disappointed with his performance, but I would still love to see what he does next time...)
Result Predictions: I think Daneliya and VoOCC are pretty much guaranteed for the Top 3...As for the other one, we COULD continue the tendency of all the singers making it through (as I know that even with being placed early in the line-up, getting a lukewarm reception and having an hour-long break to help voters forget about him, Kameron won't go that easily...But maybe it will at least compromise his votes...) Otherwise, I would LIKE to believe that it will go to BAD or Spyros...The latter is who I primarily hope gets it, but I'm still not entirely sure if enough was done (namely by the judges and producers) to assure that...This game can be very unfair with who gets to be the most popular...
I guess I'll do something I don't normally do, and make a ranking prediction like FrankDoc does...It will be a fair bit wishful...
11: BONAVEGA
10: Vincent Marcus
9: The Shape
8: Jonathan Goodwin
7: Kelvin Dukes
6: Kameron Ross
5: Alexis Brownley & The Puppy Pals
4: BAD Salsa
3: Spyros Bros
2: Voices of Our City Choir
1: Daneliya Tuleshova
See you tomorrow when the REAL Michael Myers dance group takes the stage, along with our favorite ventriloquism prodigy...

CHARACTER PROFILE:
Rachel Barbra Berry graced the world with her presence on the 18th of December in the year 1997. She was adopted into a family that consisted of her two doting fathers, and later included her irksome brother. She could carry beautiful tunes before she could walk, as she likes to tell. She’s had a gift for singing and performing from a very young age. Being adopted, it was always a wonder where talent came from. In her high school years, Rachel coincidentally came face to face with her birth mother, Shelby Cochran. She was the coach of an opposing Glee club, and that only fueled her passion for the stage even further.
When most people think of Rachel, they think of a self-centered diva who will take anyone down to get to the top. Which… is what it can appear to be from the outside. Rachel even signs her name with gold stars she is that determined. As a child, Rachel was often teased in school for being alone and without many friends. She spent most of her time by herself at recess, with her CD player listening to soundtracks of musicals. The characters in the shows were her friends, because she felt like she knew them. When she realized her mother was a former Broadway star and had her own powerful voice that could almost put hers to shame, Rachel’s drive to Broadway became even stronger. The main reason she wants it so bad, is to have a connection to her birth mom. She adores her dads, however she yearned for a tie to her biological family.
After graduating from McKinley, Rachel left Ohio and moved straight to New York. She struggled for a bit, living in a tiny apartment and auditioning like a mad woman to any role she was suited for. She even waited tables for extra money… Rachel Berry. Rachel earned herself the part of Fanny Brice which was her dream. It took a little over a year of hardships, but she had landed the part. She stayed in the city for a few years until recently.
Rachel had gotten her Broadway dreams, however she had missed out on the college experience. She also missed her dads, and even her brother Brighton at times. She decided this year to return home for a while, as she is currently in between shows. Nothing seemed to be open to her there in the city, so it seemed like the perfect time to come home and take a break for a while.
STUDENT CENSUS SURVEY:
(Please answer the following questions IN CHARACTER. Responses can be as long or short as you see fit!)
What made you want to attend Joie University? ~ A college education makes someone well rounded, and as a Broadway performer that is very important. While I am improving my own resume here, I feel that I can also be an example for those around me and offer them experiences that they would not have otherwise if I was not in attendance at Joie.
What are at least 3 positive or neutral and at least 3 negative traits that you believe you possess? ~ I am talented, driven, and ambitious. Negative? Well, I do not believe that trait is in my vocabulary.
Which of your traits do you value most? ~ My talent.
How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? ~ I can inspire others to try to measure up to the talent I possess.
What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU? ~ I would like to inspire the glee club members the way I was inspired in high school. As the president, I think I will be able to accomplish this easily.
What is a quote or song lyric that describes you? ~ “I am simple, complex, generous, selfish, unattractive, beautiful, lazy, and driven.” - Barbra Streisand

GET TO KNOW THE BLOGGER.
Can be used for RP and non-RP blogs to get to know a bit about the person behind the screen!
1. FIRST NAME: castoro!
2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: i used to live on the navy base in iceland before it was closed down, when i was very young. was only for a few years, but i’m so glad i had the experience. skyr is ... so so good.
3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: eyes are a big one, curves, and freckles.
4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: rice, if it’s made right. good rice is fuckin’ superb.
5. A FOOD YOU HATE: anything with bbq sauce. just can’t do it. i’ve tried so many times and i cannot.
6. GUILTY PLEASURE: shitty pop music, which is why i rarely share my musical tastes with people.
7. WHAT DO YOU SLEEP IN: pj pants and a loose shirt.
8. SERIOUS RELATIONSHIPS OR FLINGS: i’ve done both, and there’s things to enjoy about either. right now, i’m more in the mood for something long - term rather than casual fun, so i’d say a serious relationship.
9. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AND CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WOULD YOU AND WHAT WOULD IT BE: i wish i hadn’t bungled dropping out of college so badly. i’m pretty deeply in school debt now, such that it’ll be a long time before i can ever go back. but i do think dropping out was the right choice at the time, as i was MASSIVELY depressed at the time and not gaining anything from being there. honestly, there’s a lot i wish i could redo around that time. i was pretty bitter and unpleasant, and made a few choices i regret.
10. ARE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE PERSON: yeah, i think so! i can be kinda nervous and touch can overwhelm me at times, but i like showing people i care about them with words or gestures.
11. A MOVIE YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN: i’ve listened to the songs from the steven universe movie so many times and rewatched my favorite scenes so many times, i’m actually gonna say that’s my pick at this point. it’s so GOOD.
12. FAVORITE BOOK: i haven’t seriously read a book in YEARS, which is stupid and lame and i hate it. i used to be an avid reader, now it’s a struggle to find the time and desire to get through one. i’ll just go with my usual answer, “ the giver ” by lois lowry, because it’s the one book i can think of that made a HUGE emotional impact on me. like i seriously started crying reading some parts of it. also, i accidentally kept a copy one of my favorite teachers kept in her classroom library, so there’s an additional sentimental attachment there.
13. YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP ANY ANIMAL AS A PET, WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE: i’d love to have more rats!
14. TOP FIVE FICTIONAL SHIPS [IF YOU ARE AN RP BLOG, YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN SHIPS AS WELL]:
- chalastor ( hazbin hotel ) - dislestia ( mlp: fim ) - mercyroad ( overwatch ) - stevonnie ( steven universe ) - billford ( gravity falls )
15. PIE OR CAKE: cake all the WAY. not many pies i actually like, tbh.
16. FAVORITE SCENT: always loved the scent of pine. just gives me a lotta nostalgia for christmas. also nag champa incense smells really good.
17. CELEBRITY CRUSH: n / a.
18. IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: mostly i’d just wanna see my family and my friends. i miss them all, and it’s been years since i’ve seen some of them.
19. INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT: textbook introvert.
20. DO YOU SCARE EASILY: oh yes. i’m naturally pretty tense and anxious, so it’s easy to spook me. i also used to watch horror / true crime content late at night which was a bad idea, because it made sleeping very difficult.
21. IPHONE OR ANDROID: android.
22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES: mostly just overwatch at this point. i’ve sorta wanted to try a few others, but it’s difficult to find the time and generally i wanna be doing other stuff when i have free time.
23. DREAM JOB: a screenplay writer, or just ... a writer in some capacity on a cartoon. i absolutely love to write and think it’d be nice to contribute to a project i was passionate about.
24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: pay off my debts, first and foremost. once those were taken care of, get a place to live that i could sustain over the next few years as the money runs out. it’d be nice if i didn’t have to work for a while and could focus on fixing myself and my life.
25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE: FUCKING WALTER WHITE. FUCK THAT GUY. I FUCKIN’ HATE THAT DUDE.
26. FANDOM THAT YOU WERE ONCE A PART OF BUT AREN’T ANY LONGER: see, if i’m in a fandom i generally still keep it on the backburner. that said, the one fandom i can think of that i have no attachment to any longer is glee. i was in glee fandom for the first two seasons, but then the show went down the shitter and i gave up on it.
i still listen to the covers, but i don’t engage any further than that.
tagged by. i stole it. tagging. steal it.
