Nobody expected Nahoya Kawata, to be the first of the twins to yet married. Especially not to Mitsuya (Name). (Name) had been the popular pretty boy in Toman. Who anyone and everyone wanted but could never get due to his over protective twin.
It was kinda funny if everyone was honest. A twin marrying another twin. Many wondered what kind of kids they'd have. Most bet on twins or triplets. Since they both have twin genes but (Name) has so far only had 1 kid. To many (mostly Nahoya's) disappointment.
But one kid was enough for now since (Name) has an already busy schedule while he works with Draken and Inui's motor shop. That's right. (Name) was D&D's top Machanic. He worked on and designed bikes. The Mitsuya twins were always the more creative friends of their friend group.
~
(Name) tightened another bolt. Looking carefully at the bike once more before nodding happily. Another bike repaired! (Name) grabbed the rag off his personal tool box, and wiped the oil and grease off his hands. His (hair length) hair pulled back and out of his face.
He had been working on the bike most of the day. The owner had almost completely totalled it, but luckily (Name) worked his magic. Although he had to remake the whole engine which he knows will be expensive. (Name) sighed and looked at the clock.
9:43 pm.
He was supposed to be home an hour ago. But Draken wanted him to finish the bike he was working on. So he had to stay and finish. (Name) shook his head before starting to clean up the tools.
He wanted to get home and eat some delicious food made by his husband. See his 2 almost 3 year old son. Finally he wanted to cuddle with Nahoya and (Son's Name) until he fell asleep. He's been working so hard this week considering their sons birthday is next week.
(Son's Name) was the light of their lives. Although, (Name) had a surprise he hasn't told anyone. Well anyone other then Draken, since he was (Name)'s boss. (Name) had been feeling sick lately and according to the doctor, (Name) is pregnant...with Twins.
~
Nahoya yawned. Rubbing his eyes before checking the time. 10:28 pm. He checked the other side of the bed. Empty. Where was (Name)? Nahoya pulled the covers away and slowly got up. Making his way to the living room, Nahoya made sure (Son's Name) was still asleep.
As he entered the living room he noticed the light on. (Name) was nowhere to be seen. After checking the kitchen and the bathroom, Nahoya was getting worried. It wasn't like his wife to be late. (Name) hated being late. He reminded him of that almost everyday.
(Name) would always make sure he was up and out the door early. Since he and his twin Souya have to open their Ramen shop early. While he also brought (Son's Name) with him, due to (Name)'s job being too dangerous for the small boy. They'd always get home on time.
A stumbling noise brought Nahoya out of his thoughts. He turned in time to see (Name) almost fall over just trying to get his shoes off. Nahoya couldn’t help but to laugh. While his wife was beautiful and strong, he was probably the most clumsy person he knew.
(Name)'s head snapped up at the laugh. He smiled brightly at his husband. "I'm home 'hoya." Nahoya chuckled shaking his head before helping with the shoes. Once (Name)'s work shoes were off he gave his husband a passionate and strong kiss. Missing the male dearly.
When they pulled away (Name) knew the look on the others face. So he quickly made his way to the kitchen. Absolutely starving. Though as he left, his husband followed him like a lost puppy. (Name) quickly went to the fridge grabbing a bowl of Ramen and quickly reheated it.
Nahoya could practically see the drool coming from (Name). It made him curious, (Name) only was that hungry for Ramen when he was pregnant with their son. Ramen was the main food (Name) ate the whole pregnancy.
Nahoya watched with a soft smile as (Name) quickly ate the food. It was like he hadn't ate all day. Nahoya kissed his temple and gave him a small hug. (Name) hummed kissing Nahoya's cheek. Laying the dishes in the sink. To do in the morning.
(Name) hummed rubbing his stomach. Filled with his husbands famous and delicious Ramen. Now all (Name) needed was a showers and cuddles from (Son's Name) and Nahoya. So thats exactly what he'll do. (Name) took a quick shower. The warm water felt nice on his tired muscles.
Then he changed in his pajamas. One of Nahoya's shirts and his favorite fuzzy pajama pants. (Name) slowly crept in (Son's Name)'s room. Making his way to his sleeping angel. Who was snoring loudly causing (Name) to swear-drop.
He dealt with enough snoring from his darling partner. He didn't want to deal with that tonight. He was extremely tired and just wanted to go to sleep. So maybe cuddles an wait till tomorrow. (Name) kissed his sons forehead and quietly ran to his bedroom. Wanting to get a good nights rest.
~
Today was the day! (Son's Name)'s birthday. The day (Name) has been working hard for. Of course the party was at the Kawata's Ramen restaurant. Many orginal Toman members were present. (Name) couldn’t remember the last time he smiled so wide.
Everyone was having a blast. Draken and Inui was chasing (Son's Name). They were distracting him so they could finish setting everything up. Souya was making the food while Nahoya was setting up the tables. Takashi was working over at the present area.
Everyone else was catching up. (Name) smiled. Setting down the birthday cake. It felt nice having everyone together again. (Name) smiled softly. Without looking he slapped Mikey's hand away from the sweets. Grinning at his best friend.
"Mikey thats for everyone. You haven't even ate yet!" Mikey pouted. Grumbling abiut how he didn't want to eat Ramen, he just wanted to eat the sweets. (Name) sighed. Calling everyone over to eat. While placing a flag in Mikey's bowl.
Many laughing when Mikey's face lit up. As everyone as eating, (Name) looked around. Enjoying the moment very much. He missed this so much. It seems like yesterday when they were all kids. Fighting and driving bikes everyday. Not having to deal with the responsibilities they do now. Though, as he looked at (Son's Name) he couldn't help but smile bigger.
After singing happy birthday, and cuttng the cake it was now time for presents. (Son's Name) lighting up more and more after each one. He favorite so far was the model bike from Uncle Ken. It was a (bike name). The same bike (Name) rode when he was a teen. His second favorite was the outfit made by his Uncle Kashi.
(Name) waited for (Son's Name) to finish opening up the "last" present. Dead-panning at Kokonoi. Who was smiling widely. He had gifted (Son's Name) money. Which (Name) will be putting away for when he's older.
Nahoya's laughter filled the restaurant. But his laughter died short after seeing (Name) place a final present in front of (Son's Name). Confused since he wasn't informed of said gift. Everyone went silent waiting to see what the gift was.
(Son's Name) excitedly opened the gift but stopped when seeing the inside. He pulled out a shirt that said "Big Brother". He was confused since he didn't know he had a sibling. (Son's Name) looked at his dad questioning him about the shirt.
Everyone but (Name), Draken, and (Son's Name) was frozen. (Name) laughed loudly before removing the jacket he was wearing. Showing the shirt underneath. The shirt had four tiny feet prints. With "Twins Loading" written on the shirt. It took a matter of seconds for the slince was broken.
Nahoya immediately shot up. Eyes wide in disbelief. "Wait what?!" Everyone joined in. Questioning (Name) about the shirts. (Name) then pulled out a series of photos. "Its offical! I'm pregnant with twins!" He exclamated loudly. The group breaking out in cheers. Clapping Nahoya on the back congratulating the man on his newest editions.
(Son's Name) looked around confused. Until Inui explained what was going on, since both parents were surrounded by their friends. He was excited! He was gonna be a big brother! This was the best birthday ever! He couldn’t wait to meet them.

OC Deep Dive: Ofelia
Thank you so much for the tag @khywren !! ❤️❤️ I always love getting a chance to talk more about Ofelia. ❤️
What Common/Uncommon Fear Do They Have?
A common fear for her would be heights- if she's far enough away from the edge, she can come to enjoy the view, but if she's up high for a not-so-good reason, it's enough to make her pass out.
An uncommon fear of hers would probably be driving. She'd seen a lot of crashes and even been in one as a teen, so she's not so keen on getting behind the wheel. :(
Do They Have Any Pet Peeves?
Ofelia hates mumbling- she hates having to ask someone to repeat themselves (unless they're visibly distressed) and she likes quick answers. If she has to ask someone something and wait for the seconds to drag on before the person answers her, she gets really crabby. I feel like these mostly fall into the category of feeling ignored or dismissed.
What Three Items Can You Find in Their Bedroom?
A fan to circulate the air and help make white noise, a candle to keep the room smelling nice and comforting, and a fluffy robe- it's her guilty pleasure to put it on in the morning and drink a hot cup of joe and try to enjoy as much of the early hours before the rest of the world wakes up as possible.
On a Scale of 1-10, How High is Their Pain Tolerance?
Unfortunately, pretty high. I'd say a solid 8.5 - 9. She's experienced a lot of abuse in her life. 💔
Do They Go Into Fight or Flight Mode When Under Pressure?
She definitely goes into fight mode. Being an orphan, she had to learn to get tough or the consequences weren't going to be very good for her otherwise. She doesn't hesitate to stand up for others, and will throw hands to prove it.
Do They Come From a Big Family/Are They a Family Person?
Ofelia is an orphan, sadly. Her first parents died when she was a child, and she unfortunately didn't encounter any good replacements during the rest of her adolescence. She struggles a lot with relationships because of it, somewhat afraid that they'll all go away eventually.
She's too fresh into her adventure on Faerun, but she hopes she can at least call her companions friends soon. ❤️
What Animal Represents Them Best?
For it's nomadic and stubborn nature, as well as it's unbreakable will to keep going for the person who gains it's trust, I'd have to say a wild horse. ❤️ She'd drive herself into the ground if it meant giving her all to the person who needs it from her, often at her own expense.
What is a Smell They Dislike?
Funnily enough, blood! At least in large quantities- she's okay if it's a small amount. When it comes to a lot of it, it can make her ill and reminds her of some of the darkest moments in her life.
Have They Broken Any Bones?
She fell off her bike when she was a kid and broke her left wrist, got a fractured rib from a school fight when she was 14, and unfortunately suffered some broken fingers from her last foster sibling (the shittiest one from her flashbacks, yes).
How Would a Stranger Likely Describe Them?
Astarion doesn't outright describe her in chapter 2, but he makes some observations. She's viewed as closed off and quiet at first glance, and if you make a bad first impression, she'll find something to make fun of you for so she can make you crack. She's funny that way.
Are They a Night Owl, or a Morning Bird?
Definitely a morning bird! She likes the night enough, but a quiet morning all to herself is her own personal heaven.
What's a Flavor They Hate and a Flavor They Love?
Love: Cherries, Cheese, Chiles, and Onions.
Hate: Pineapple, Sour Things, String Beans
Do They Have Any Hobbies?
Ofelia's top hobby is music- singing, playing various instruments (though guitar remains her favorite) as well as journalling and writing music. She also sketches and draws in her spare time!
I'm hoping to make a diary entry and post it here someday soon of what her little sketches and things look like as she continues her adventure. 😊
Boom, Suprise Birthday Party! How Do They React to Suprise?
Oh, she'd be over the moon.
She doesn't even know what day she was born on, and after her first parents, no one ever celebrated her birthday again. She'd be in tears, making a fool out of herself telling everyone how much she loves them, even guests that she doesn't know.
Do They Like to Wear Jewelry?
Oh yes. Aside from her nose and eyebrow piercings, she loves to wear earrings, rings, chokers, necklaces, bracelets- all of it! As long is it follows a dark, more gothic theme, she'll be wearing it.
Do They Have Neat or Messy Handwriting?
Bad almost all the time. She thinks faster than she can get her thoughts on paper, so it often looks huried and with a few things scratched out due to misspelling.
What Are the Two Emotions They Feel the Most?
I'd say stress/anxiety and a strong determination to be annoying. She loves to poke fun, it's her love language, but she'll never be needlessly mean. A few comparisons to a feral cat and some hissing impressions and Astarion is ready to stab her.
Do They Have a Favorite Fabric?
Probably cotton or silk- something light like the former and smooth like the latter.
What Kind of Accent Do They Have?
Southern Californian - it's where she spent almost the first decade of her life. Basically, it's the most generic American accent you can think of, though I'm forced to burden her with a British accent in the game 💔
This was so fun! Thanks again!! I'd love to get to know all your characters like this, below!

Suzuki Cappuccino :) or other baby roadsters
Oh, I had a post in the chamber about exactly that! :D
So, Japan is pretty densely populated. Let's put it this way: one reason the Tokyo metro area couldn't do a huge and extremely weird cultural exchange where every citizen trades place with someone from Australia, Belgium or Slovenia, is there aren't enough Australians, Belgians and Slovenians combined to do that. So you can imagine it would be pretty advantageous to public life for people to drive small cars - hence the popularity of kei cars, a car class with huge tax benefits and tiny engine and dimensions limits. Those limits, positively minuscule when they were introduced to push bike makers to use their parts to make small cars, eventually increased to a 0.66L engine size and the dimensions below...
...and in the late 80s there was a "gentleman's agreement" whereby no one would make a kei car more powerful than 64hp, similar to the other gentleman's agreement whereby they agreed not to make cars with more than 276hp - which they cleverly addressed by equipping more powerful cars, like the Skyline GT-Rs, with unusual little devices called lies.
But now it's the 1990s -contrary to popular misconceptions- and Japanese businesses and customers have a problem: what the fuck do we do with all this money?
To truly convey the desperation with which cash was being thrown around like primate feces, Mazda created FIVE sub-brands (Amati, Autozam, ɛ̃fini, Xedos, and Eunos, brand under which they sold the Miata as Eunos Roadster) AND gave the SIXTH sub-brand M2 separate headquarters - these headquarters. In Tokyo.
M2 only ever made parts and some fringe prototypes, the most it produced were three Eunos Roadster-based limited versions - they cost twice as much as the original (and for good reason - one of them used leather deemed too expensive by the only other automaker to ever use it, Rolls Royce), but because economic bubble, they were so sought after they had to set up a lottery, Andrea was telling us, and as he got to the uber-limited production numbers (a combined 780), he explained that, since of course they were only sold in Japan, there were only five in the whole of Europe. He then raised his finger and, in one of the greatest flexes I have ever witnessed, pointed it around his huge, Miata-packed shed, counting "one, two, three, four, five".
S'yah, it turns out the world's biggest Miata collection is just owned by Some Guy in the middle of Italy, and if your kid ever gets dumped it is a wonderful place to take him to cheer him back up. Thanks, dad.
So clearly, this was a point in time where even people with no need nor wish nor space for a large second car, or a large car at all, could still be interested in a sportscar, thus spawning some briefly-lived but oh-so-brightly-burning kei sportscars, nicknamed ABC.
One of them being, indeed, the Suzuki Cappuccino.
Please remember, this car is positively lilliputian. It's 3.30m long. For the yankees in the audience, that's just 0.03 football fields. Here are some fun size comparisons.
The engine was front-mid and turbocharged...
...the roof was a fun puzzle that allowed you to have a T-Top coupe (with just the sides off), a targa (with the top part of the roof removed but the rear pillar of the roof still in place) or a spider (by folding the rear pillar and window down)...
...and it was NOT exclusive to Japan, with 12% of units being sold in the UK!
youtube
But since this was clearly asked by someone quite familiar with its generalities, some less-known quirks for the geeks:
It was the first kei car ever with double wishbones all around
The indicators changed between JDM and UK versions so if you've got the latter finding spares is 10 times harder
The hood release is in the glovebox and the fuel release is in the center console storage - the latter locks with a different key than the ignition uses, so if you hand just the latter to the valet you can keep them from siphoning your gas, but I'm yet to hear whether that also goes for the glovebox, so stay tuned for updates on whether you can also keep them from siphoning your washer fluid
Air gets to the engine (well, to the turbo) through the frame. Like, it gets into the frame, it travels inside the frame, and then gets out and is filtered. Now, you may ask yourself why they would do that.
While most cars had front disc brakes at the time, the less effective but cheaper drum brakes were usually used on the rear, which was fine since when a car brakes weight transfers to the front so the front wheels are the ones that get more grip and can thus brake harder anyway - so not only do you not need the rear wheels to have the same stopping power, you don't even want them to, because then the rear wheels would lock up before the front ones even got to their full braking potential. So when the Cappuccino got four wheel disc brakes, like every other car with four wheel disc brakes, it didn't put four discs of the same size all around. Unlike every other car with four wheel disc brakes, however, they put the bigger ones at the rear. A friend who owns one called the brakes "not amazing".
Then again, let's cut them some slack, it was the second kei car ever with four wheel disc brakes! Second, yes, because the Cappuccino was not the first kei-sized sportscar.
So, remember how with Ferrari, the last car to be signed off by its founder was a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive, manual, record-setting, no frills two-seater sportscar? Well, the Japanese being famous overachievers, that goes for Soichiro Honda's last two.
Supposedly, Honda decided that its F1 engines hadn't kicked Ferrari's ass enough, so they set out to build a car as approachable, reliable and daily-life-friendly as a Honda yet faster through both straights and corners than a Ferrari. Or a Lamborghini. Or a Porsche- you get the idea. Thus, the NSX, seen here next to it is its test driver, tuning consultant and enthusiastic owner Ayrton Senna, best known for driving the car on the left into three championship wins, a bunch of "Greatest Of All Time" debates, and a wall that killed him.
But if your second-to-last car is a two seat, mid-engined, rear wheel drive sportscar with Pininfarina design, a 40mm short-throw manual, and a redline past 8000RPM, what do you do for your last one? Easy! Another!
This little bowl of pint-sized cuteness is the Honda Beat, and yes, that interior is not just factory, but was the only pattern available. Still, if you think the interior is the most outlandish part of this car, you haven't heard it.
youtube
Again, this engine was outsized by two Coke cans and the car it's in is no bigger than the Cappuccino, and you already know how... ah, screw it, let's show you a size comparison anyway.
Some geek facts:
It was the first mid-engine monocoque (as in not body-on-frame, not un-shark-like, you pervs) spider ever made! There were some targas before, but never a full-on spider
The stereo was custom to fit in the super-narrow center console between the two asymmetrical cabin spaces so the cassette slot has the same cute little Beat logo as the "Open Air Motoring!" branded floormats!
Gathers celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new touchscreen radio for it that is now uber-rare and uber-expensive
It had two trunks, which is lovely, except that the rear one had the battery and optional CD changer conspiring against you and the front was literally inside the spare tire, so it's good that you could also get a rear rack!
The rear rims are bigger than the front!
With how much cooler this is than the Cappuccino (sorry, friend who owns one) it's quite the shame Suzuki decided not to go forward with the mid-engine layout their kei sportscar development started with. At least, Mazda sure thought as much, asking Suzuki to please keep working on that idea and make a mid-engined kei sportscar for them to sell under their brand for the youth, Autozam. And thus we have the ABC - C for Cappuccino, B for Beat...
...and A for AZ-1. Think of how cool life was in Japan back in the day that this was a car for the youth.
Fun facts:
IT HAS GULLWING FUCKING DOORS
The spare tire was mounted in the front compartment but crashing made it jam the steering wheel in your chest so they sent owners a little bag and asked them to please put that tire behind the seats
GULLWING FUCKING DOORS
Suzuki sold a few of them themselves as the Cara
G U L L W I N G D O O R S
Sadly, it joined the party (JapaneseEconomicBoomfest, that is) just when it was ending. Hell, the Beat was sold for six years ('91 through '96) and two thirds of Beats sold are 1991s. That's how hard recession hit Japan right when the AZ-1 came out, which indeed sold a fraction of the other two.
But fear not: after decades, Honda blew the dust off the kei sportscar idea in 2015 with the gloriously sexy S660.
It did cease production last year, but at least it left the Japanese used market a kei sportscar with the modern amenities we (and by we I mean you spoiled pussies) cannot do without, like steering wheel controls and *squints* HDMI.
Oh by the way, remember how I said I was going to post about the Cappuccino? Well, it was because someone posted a picture of one with aftermarket taillights.
Guess what car was next to it when this picture was taken. Guess.
WRONG.
"What? Where was this?" At a Fiat 500 meeting, of course. And then people wonder why I love Japan so much.
Links in blue are posts of mine explaining the words in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

Hey, this is Chronivac Support correct?
I’m a 19 year old guy, and the other day I thought to myself that I’d really like to try some leather. You know what those men wear, with the big black jackets, the leather pants and the hats, but I have a suspicion it might not look right on me considering my body is quite small and lacks any muscle. Do you think you could help me?
Being 19 years old, small and not very muscular is no reason not to like leather. And you don't have to be a hairy muscle god to find something to fuck in a darkroom. Or to get fucked in a sling. But it is my pleasure to be of service to you. Especially since leather is an expensive fetish, you have to be able to afford it. I'll program a new rhythm of life. You start an apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic to have the smell of leather around you all day. After work you go to the gym. Two hours of exercise. And afterwards you go to a fetish bar. In the beginning you wear jeans and a T-shirt. But from your first salary you buy your first leather pants. It's Friday evening, let's start. I set the time lapse to the maximum speed. One second, one month. Stop after 20 seconds.
So, let's have a look at you: You're almost 22 years old. Handsome young man. Your muscles are developing well. And what's more important: Your self-confidence is there. You like leather and are proud of it. On weekends you stand behind the counter in the leather bar. And when you are not working, you let off steam. Fucking, pissing, fisting. Everything already tried. You know that everyone is looking at you and you enjoy it.
Try out the body. It's 10:00 p.m., time to hit the streets.
So, how was the first night? Okay, as a top you are not taken too seriously yet with your cute face. But how often did someone want to fuck you? I hope you enjoyed it.
It's Saturday afternoon, let's do shopping. But before that, I'll let the time lapse go on for another minute. 27 years old. They don't fool you on the bike any more than they do on the sling. In the meantime, the guys are waiting for your arrival in the darkroom in the evening to be fucked by you. And in your basement you have built your own cave with Andreas cross. And in the fetish store of your confidence you are platinum customer.
Cool new outfit! I'm already lying down in the sling, sir!
Slept in? I bet the evening and the morning have taken their toll. And the fella you took home willingly had the dog mask put on him before he was allowed to fall asleep at the foot of the bed. But now send him to his basket, I'll let the clock run forward another minute.
Sure, it's a matter of taste. But for me you have now reached the climax. You have to have almost 20 years of experience in the leather scene. Especially at your age. Today is slave market in the leather bar. Let's see who will throw themselves at your feet. One thing is for sure, you will both have your fun.

Normal life (1)
When we got back, things were pretty quiet and normal, for a while. I didn't feel all that confused anymore. Dad paid more attention to me, but then his work took over, and I was on my own again for a few days, then a week, then another week. I was fine with it. Mrs Lee took care of me, and I did my own laundry and ironing anyway. There was school, as always.
I had missed a Saturday morning drill at school and the regular Tuesday and Thursday drills, I had also missed fulfilling disciplinary service at the barracks at Saturday afternoon, Monday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon - 8 hours altogether. I had permission from school cadets, but I was given a fairly normal punishment anyway, I copied out the cadet manual once again, took me all Sunday afternoon.
And even though the Army Cadets had consented in giving me 'leave', I still had to catch up with those hours I missed. They slapped an additional 10 hours of service on my old 240 hours, because I had been out of cadet uniform, in Thailand, where I should have been properly dressed.
As you can imagine, by now, none of that seemed unfair or wrong; I was being disciplined, reprimanded, I understood it, accepted it, welcomed it. That's how my mind worked, at the time.
I realise that this ‘digested’ account of my childhood years might give the impression that I was under a lot of pressure. I wasn’t, or I wasn’t always.
For starters, I went to a really good school, with lots of bright teachers, excursions, trips, theatre, games, and my classmates were generally really nice, I had friends there too.
And if you think it was odd that after school hours I didn’t hang out in the mall, or went for a smoke behind the bike shed, or played football on the school yard until dark, it wasn’t all that strange: most kids had a well-organised life, strict rules at home, planned activities. We all did what we were told.
The school cadet program was intense and asked a lot from the cadets – to the point of being inspected at home - but it wasn’t more strenuous or demanding than, say, the school rugby eleven or the swim team (those boys had their first practice at 5.30 every morning). The school was popular (and expensive) precisely because it provided structure. I didn’t know any better and I fitted in.
And yes, I always wore my school tie in a perfect knot, never showing the top button, and my shirt was always tucked in correctly, and I may have been a bit more fanatic about that than other boys, but wearing uniform as ordered was just normal. All boys complied.
One of the best moments of the day was that half hour before drill started, when we got together in the school dressing rooms, to change from school uniform to cadet uniform.
There was always a good buzz, there, as friendly as boys that age can get, joking about a bit, but also making sure our uniforms looked fine and we were all on the same page when it came to the exercises of that afternoon.
We were pretty ambitious too, planning to do really well in these regional drill competitions, hoping to go on to the nationals.
So in that half hour we made sure we looked the part.
And the sergeant came in, for a formal check (possible demerits), and then we would fall in. And get silent.
And then we’d march out, for our endless exercises.
It was mandatory. Some kids just did it, went through the motions.
I loved it.

I’m been thinking about that kind of organization... Successful movements, historically, have been things accomplished relatively small parties which organize. Often times, these are things we tend not to like: Christian Groups who push for the end of certain things, Home Owners Associations, that type of thing. But many of these groups are small - HOAs in particular are often less than 10 active people. But these groups are undeniably effective - it’s because they have unity and focus, fighting specific battles. There’s no reason that can’t be used for other causes... Surely, it’s very possible to fix the world around you with a small number of hands. Just having a squad of people willing to go out and accomplish something can do so much, and a lot of things many of us desire to accomplish are surprisingly tenable - It would not take that many committed people to convince local politicians to invest more in public transport, and it would likewise take very little to begin a public garden or bike rentals. Start with focus, and branch out from there; care about one thing with pursuit. Things could well be more actionable at a small scale than any of us really realize I think about the stories of a single couple planting a forest, or the like... If we just get some hands on the ground, I think we can accomplish great things. We are too often focused on top-down political solutions through expensive election support, to the extent that we neglect what can be done by individual hands, and many times we use the promise of politics as a kind of opiate which - if the goal fails - will cause us to assume that nothing can be done. But you can simple be the change you want to see. It’s hard to build something up, but it’s certainly possible... And might be what needs to be done, in many cases

Movies I watched this Week #116 (Year 3/Week 12):
🍿
The Maid by Chilean director Sebastián Silva is my favorite film of the week! A perfectly simple drama about the life of a live-in housekeeper. After 23 years of humble domestic service, aging, still-virgin Raquel is loyal to the large family that employs her, and becomes protective of her job, when they hire a second maid to help her. 10/10
🍿
Alejandro Jodorowsky’s latest movie, Endless Poetry, is the second part and sequel of his surreal auto-biography, after ‘Dance of Reality’. Visually-rich, excessively avant-garde and inventive as always. 5/10.
🍿
Pacifiction, my first Polynesian tour de force (actually it’s an international co-production, directed by Catalan provocateur Albert Serra). Picked by ‘Cahiers du Cinéma’ as the Best film for 2022. A moody and very slow-burn, it’s supposedly a political thriller that leisurely rolls on, aimlessly and with great intensity. The story of the French High Commissioner in Tahiti is about colonialism, white privilege and the entitled ruling class, a Graham Greene for the modern age.
Mysterious and intriguing, it reminded me of ‘The Conversation’, my all-time favorite Coppola’s, even though they had nothing in common on the surface. For nearly 3 hours of incredibly-building atmosphere it felt like a unique, transforming film experience. But then - it suddenly cut off and ended! Without any resolution, or conclusion, or even just an acknowledgement. It’s as if the last 10 pages of the script were ripped out before the end-titles. Very disappointing!
It also featured a traditional dancer, Shannah, in one of the best transgender roles I’ve ever seen.
I was planning on following this up with another of Serra’s controversial films, the pornographic ‘Liberté’ (about an orgy in the forest), but Pacifiction’s ending bummed me out so much, so I’ll keep that for another time. So only 5/10.
🍿
The Kid with a Bike, my second by the Belgian Dardenne brothers (after ‘The elephant and the butterfly’). A sad story of a difficult childhood: A 12-year-old boy had been abandoned by his father, and eventually finds some solace with a kind hairdresser. 9/10.
🍿
5 more from Jean-Pierre Jeunet:
🍿 “Did no one ever wonder how a young waitress afforded such sophisticated decoration for a flat in Montmartre, one of Paris’s most expensive districts?”
Jeunet has just re-cut and released his 2001 comedy‘ The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain’ as a short film which reveals that Amélie was actually a KGB spy.
🍿 A Very Long Engagement, a toned-down World War 1 fairy tale romance starring Audrey Tautou (and Jodie Foster). Bleak and surrealistic, it reminded me of Peter Jackson’s ‘They shall not grow old’. 9/10.
🍿 As a life-long (53.5 years) vegetarian, I never mustered the courage to watch his uncomfortably meat-heavy, post-apocalyptic Delicatessen, until now. A grotesque, black comedy nightmare, starring the rubber-face Dominique Pinon (who played in all his movies the last 35 years), Modern day Hieronymus Bosch canvas, wilder than Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, as surrealist as Fellini at his ‘The Clowns’ best.
I was planning on seeing also his Delicatessen-related ‘The city of lost children’, but to be honest, his overindulgent style was too much in large dozes, so I’ll keep it for another week.
🍿 Two snails go away, a quirky animated short based on a poem by Jacques Prévert, each line read by another of his many life-long collaborators.
🍿 My favorite of his is still Nonsense (Foutaises - “Things I Like, Things I Hate”) from 1989, one of the greatest shorts in Cinema IMO. [Copy is in French with no English subtitles].
🍿
I was happy to finally find a free copy of Truffaut’s romantic The Last Metro, which I haven’t seen in over 40 years, and which I always recalled as one of his best love triangles. Well, it’s top-tier maybe, but not ‘best’. Catherine Deneuve is at her most magnificence, and the score by Georges Delerue is beautiful too. Very close to ‘Day for night’ thematically, it was the 2nd part of a planned 'Entertainment world’ trilogy. (Photo Above).
🍿
2 films about reading aloud:
🍿 Las Analfabetas, another wonderful story, my 3rd Chilean movie of the week. This one about an illiterate middle-aged woman who reluctantly learns to read, thanks to the insistence of a young teacher. 8/10.
🍿 The reader, my first (disappointing) film with French actress Miou-Miou. A literary male-gaze, Chinese-box parable about a woman who places an ad in the paper, offering an in-home reading-aloud service. As she comes into their homes, the stories that she reads to them become part of her story, moving in and out of their lives. 2/10.
🍿
The Cabin is a quiet, meditative little movie about identity, that has no reviews on line! Like Antonioni’s David Locke (in ’The Passanger’), a restless man from Luxembourg is trying to escape his life, and it’s not clear why. But instead of the Sahara desert, he drops off an Arctic cruise at the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, wishing to go further, to the edge of the world. There’s a cabin out in the wilderness he dreams about. But also a 7-year old daughter that he left behind, without any explanations. Enigmatic mystery that does not offer closure. 7/10.
🍿
Fucking Åmål, what it is like to be a teenager in a small Swedish town in the 1990s. A sweet budding romance between two awkward girls who feel they don’t belong.
"Varför måste vi bo i fucking jävla kuk-Åmål?" (Translation: “Why the hell do we have to live in fucking Åmål?”
🍿
The Gunfighter, mustachioed Gregory Peck as the notorious Jimmy Ringo, the "fastest gun in the West". Another tight, well-told western with 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bonus: The gunfighter (2014), with Nick Offerman’s mellifluous voice breaking the Forth Wall - always good for a fun re-watch.
🍿
Timbuktu, my first award-winning masterpiece from Mauritania, by Malian film director Abderrahmane Sissako. Another harrowing story of terror in the barren Sahara desert. Senseless religious laws imposed by a patriarchal and fanatic group on simple villagers. A heart-breaking tragedy - 10/10.
Here’s the scene of the forbidden football match played with an imaginary ball.
🍿
After the difficult, depressing ‘Timbuktu’, I had to palate-cleanse into something more hopeful, so what’s better than Chaplin’s first full-feature, the uber-sentimental The Kid (whose name was - surprise! -’John’!). A perennial favorite, a perfect balance between comedy and drama, painfully autobiographical.
🍿
2 films about Catholic priests "molesting” children:
🍿 Deliver Us from Evil, a sad 2006 Oscar nominated documentary about one California priest who raped dozens of California kids, only to be protected by the monstrous Catholic church, as per their habit for thousands of years. A tedious narrative, well-known for decades, it follows one priest, one bishop and a couple of little girls. It gives the priest and his esteemed defenders a respectable deference, because - ‘religion’. It lets them uses passive-tense euphemisms in every sentence, even when acknowledging guilt: “The wrongs that may have happened”, “to whom I may have offended”, “I was not made aware at that particular time”.... - Utterly disgusting and hard to watch.
🍿 So I “had to” go back and watch Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight again which I saw many times, including last year. It’s a perfect ‘All the cardinal’s men’ story in every way, from every single cast member, to the Howard Shore score, to the way the story unfolds, and the investigation develops, to the emotional balance of each scene. NOT anti-Catholic, for sure. 10/10.
“If kids got raped by clowns as often as they get raped by priests, it would be against the law to take your kids to the circus”.
🍿
Living Is Easy with Eyes Closed, a sweet Spanish period piece about a 40-something, bald and bespectacled teacher who’s a die-hard Beatles-fan, and who drives to Almeria, hoping to meet John Lennon where they are shooting his 1966 ‘How I won the war’.
I couldn’t sit through Hamesh Patel’s ‘Yesterday’, and I haven’t seen any of the other fictionalized/Inspired-by Beatles Fan Movies, but this had just the right balance of gentleness and melancholy. 7/10.
🍿
2 more about L.A.:
🍿 How Movies Design Los Angeles (And Which One Got it Right), by Colombian José María Luna is a video essay of the kind I usually dislike, but it grew on me. Inspired by ‘Los Angeles Plays Itself‘ and peppered with quotes from Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs, it postulated that movies have always shown the past as LA's golden years. But it ends by finding in Spike Jonze’s ‘Her’ a positive vision of the city - Nostalgia of the future. 7/10.
It got me itching to re-watch many films I saw ('La la land’, A marriage story’, ‘Singing in the rain’, ‘L.A. Confidential’) and others I haven’t yet (’Boyz in the hood’, 'Babylon’).
🍿 And because of the clips with limo-driver Paul Giamatti, I tried on the sentimental Saving Mr. Banks, not usually my thing. The Disney entertainment machine working full-time to create the myth of Uncle Walt the deity, but the fictional daughter-father bonds worked on me. So 5/10.
🍿
Another random pick from the list of films with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Dog Who Wouldn't Be Quiet is a recent, strange film from Argentina. It tells of a random series of weird events in the life of some guy, from having his neighbors complain about his dog, to a meteor that poison the air above 4 feet. The guy soldiered on stoically through obstacles and hardships, but I didn’t get the point of the movie - 3/10.
🍿
Re-watch: The Tin Drum, the German adaptation of Günter Grass’s masterpiece. The Danzig trilogy won him the Nobel for literature, and this film won the Oscar in 1980. German history of the 20th century told in Magical Realistic style. I liked the book better.
🍿
'Chunky’, a terrific compilation of great dance moves from vintage movies, by awesome editor YouTuber ‘Trampsta’. More editing goodness by him on his channel.
🍿
Whats Buzzin Buzzard, a 1943 Tex Avery MGM cartoon about two turkey vultures, that deals with the then current food shortage.
🍿
2 films I couldn’t finish:
🍿 After watching the guy from ‘Great Art Explained’ channel talks about Georges Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, I thought I’ll try Ferris Bueller's Day Off. But I didn’t get to the scene where they visit the Art Institute in Chicago and see the artwork, as I had to bail after 20 minutes, I guess I’m just too old.
🍿 I also did try on a whim the new lightweight Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, but it seemed like an irritating first film student effort where the only appeal is the main character’s GINORMOUS mustache. Not among the worst films I’ve ever seen, but I had to turn it off after 11 minutes.
🍿
Throw-back to the "Art project”:
Disney Adora.
Adora as The kid.
🍿
(My complete movie list is here)

AN OPEN MIND
WF THOUGHTS (10/13/24).
I’m not a big fan of Artificial Intelligence. Shouldn’t we understand natural intelligence first? Aren’t we getting ahead of ourselves?
Despite my negativity, I’m willing to keep an open mind about the usefulness of AI. After all, I’m well-known for my open mindedness and my overall flexibility.
I’m going to give AI a shot. I’m going to try a new AI product.
The new product is AI hiking pants. Yes, hiking pants.
The pants are made by the same company that makes Gore-Tex outdoor gear. I’ve had some Gore-Tex stuff, and it’s top-notch.
They call the pants “movewear.” They say that the pants are essentially “an e-bike for walking.”
The pants look like regular hiking pants, except there are big mechanical devices at the knees. The devices look like the big knee braces worn by NFL players. The devices are powered by a battery, and they’re linked to an AI system. The AI “understands” the length of your stride, your pace, and the incline of the terrain. The AI allegedly provides a seamless 40% power boost. Except for the fact that you’re moving quicker and using less energy, you’re not supposed to notice anything unusual. We’ll see.
AI is expensive. The pants cost $5,000. I’m going for it anyway. Doesn’t that prove that I’m giving AI a fair shake?
I’m keeping an open mind about these robotic pants. I’ll go hiking as soon as Mrs. Lifepartner approves my budget request. Stay tuned.

STUDENT HOUSING
Student Housing: A New Era for Indian Property
Student housing is a type of accommodation that is designed to meet the needs of students during their academic years. It provides a supportive environment that includes study areas, communal spaces, furnished rooms, gyms, kitchen appliances, electricity, gas, and water facilities, laundry facilities, parking and bike garages, and Wi-Fi access.
There are many other benefits of student housing:
Cost:
Student housing can be less expensive than renting an apartment, and some institutions even provide free or reduced-rate housing.
Location:
Student housing is frequently found near college campuses or in nearby urban areas. This may make it easier to get to classes and other activities.
Maintenance:
Maintenance and custodial staff are often available and responsive 24/7 and are equipped to handle any emergencies, providing students and families alike a sense of security.
Social life:
Students can meet new individuals and participate in various student groups and organizations, resulting in long-lasting friendships. It also allows students to pursue their interests outside regular classes and try new things.
Improved academic outcomes:
Living on campus also helps students get better scores. Students who live on campus for just one year have better academic achievements than those who don't.
Food:
Prepare meals based on students' dietary preferences and nutritional needs while maintaining high hygiene standards.
Safety and privacy:
Student housing protects students' privacy when needed. It offers safety and security via CCTV surveillance systems and 24-hour support personnel, giving students peace of mind during their academic journey.
Highlights of Student Housing in India:
India is a welcoming country that hosts hundreds of international students each year.
Indian institutions are among the top universities in the world, with impressive QS rankings.
Living expenses in India are significantly lower, starting at about 25,000 Indian rupees per month.
As per the Global Peace Index, India is one of the top 30 countries to study and live in due to its peaceful culture.
When it comes to peace during their stay in the country, overseas students give India a score of 9 out of 10.
Several Indian companies provide student housing. A few among them are:
Stanza Living:A technologically advanced company that provides communal living options for professionals and students.
Zolo Stays:A real-tech firm that provides healthy meals and co-living accommodations for singles and students.
Amberstudent:A website that assists students in finding full-time housing close to prestigious universities worldwide.
Placio:A Company that bought sites for student housing that could accommodate 50–100 beds.
Coho: A business that provides PG lodging with contemporary conveniences, cozy infrastructure, and shared spaces
Why Student Housing Is a Wise Investment
Higher Rental Yields
Another benefit of investing in student housing is the prospect of increased rental yields. Because students frequently share housing, landlords can charge greater rents per square foot than they would for a standard rental property. Additionally, houses near universities tend to attract higher rental fees due to their handy location.
Income stability
• consistent demand: Colleges and universities have a steady influx of students, resulting in persistent housing demand. This stability might result in consistent occupancy rates and rental income.
• Parental guarantees: Co-signing a lease with parents adds financial stability and reduces late payments for students.
• Low vacancy rates: During the academic year, student housing is in high demand, resulting in low vacancy rates. This provides investors with a more consistent and predictable income source.
Low Maintenance
Another advantage of investing in student housing is that they require less maintenance. Unlike other rental buildings that require frequent upkeep, student homes are frequently fully furnished, and residents are responsible for keeping their living areas in good condition. As a result, landlords can reduce their maintenance costs.
High Demand
One of the key reasons why investing in student dormitories is a wise decision is the increasing demand for student housing. As universities and colleges expand, the number of students looking for housing grows. This trend is particularly widespread in places with large institutions. In these places, there is a high demand for student accommodation, yet supply frequently falls short.
Long-Term Investment
Finally, investing in student housing can be a long-term investment. As universities and colleges expand, the need for student accommodation will rise. As a result, investing in student housing can provide a steady stream of revenue for many years to come.
Conclusion: The student housing industry in India is expanding quickly, attracting investors and developers. Many variables make student housing an attractive investment. However, there are dangers involved with any investment.
Conducting adequate research and using correct discernment can assist manage and mitigate these risks.
Finally, student housing can make students feel safer and more established, allowing them to minimize stress and focus on other aspects of their lives. It's the best option for pupils.
