Top Ten Albums
I might be the wrong person to ask since my tastes vary wildly, but I'll try I'll do it for you @lilmissnatcat24
Rules: List your top 10 favorite albums, and (if you want) include a brief description for why each one made it onto the list. Then, tag 10 (or however many you want, really) others to do the same.
You want to try?@strawberrykidneystone No pressure if not. I promise.
1# Daft Punk: Discovery (2001)
Featuring the first appearance of the DJ duos iconic headgear, a tie in ANIMATED FILM and an hour of tracks that range from perfect for clubbing (One More Time) to a song that makes you want to grab onto who you hold most dear. (Something about Us) Discovery holds a special place in my heart, having listened to it dozens of times over the years, owning it on CD and digital and feeling its style changed my outlook on music entirely.
2# Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds (1978)
Embarrassed to admit, my introduction to H.G Wells Sci-Fi classic The War of the Worlds was composer Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation from the '70s. With a distinct funky style mixed with a mix of classic keyboard and vocals, his retelling of an England under siege by Martian invaders made me a fan of the novel and spinoffs to this day. The track detailing the valiant act of HMS Thunderchild against a trio of Martian tripods is in my mind the standout piece. (hell it's on the cover)
(Wayne did do a modern remake in 2012, featuring Liam Neason and a more Techno-Electric backing. I like both but prefer the original)
3# Sabaton Heroes (2013)
My darkest hour, deep in my thankfully long dead Wehraboo phase *shivers* I discovered Swedish Power Metal band Sabaton and their 2013 Album Heroes. Dedicated to unsung heroes of WW2 it includes tracks on the exploits of an all female bomber regiment on the eastern front (Night Witches), the unsung men of the Brazilian expeditionary Force in Italy (Smoking Snakes) and Karel Janoušek, the man who commanded free Czech pilots against the Lufftwaffe over France and Britain in 1940. (Far from Fame) Heroes gives forgotten parts of the past a new light. And for Sabaton? This will not be the last time they appear.
4# Marty Robins, Gunfighter Ballads and Other Trail Songs (1959)
Not a fan of country, but between one of its tracks inclusion in Fallout: New Vegas (Big Iron)and my love for historical ballads Robins' nostalgic send up to the romanticized American West (As opposed to its actual, much less family friendly, historical truth) is a guilty pleasure that I actually went so far as buying a CD of for a road trip. El Paso a tale of love and violence is probably my favorite track.
5# Sods Opera Come on Lads!
WW2 pub songs as they were originally performed, with all the filthy language and vulgarity intact. Nothing better to wash the dishes to, or perform in the shower. Standout is a heartbreaking rendition of The D-Day Dodgers
6# Sabaton, The War to End All Wars (2022)
100% Bias since I had the absolute privilege to see this performed in concert, Sabaton's excellent second part to their 2019 The Great War album is masterful in bringing to light the forgotten stories of the poorly branded Great War. The standout for me is Christmas Truce, a retelling of the 1914 spontaneous holiday cease fire held in some parts of France between Entente and German troops. We actually sang this together as the audience. *Chills*
Tumblr media
(My first concert experience. Could barely speak the next day my throat hoarse from screaming)
7# Daft Punk Random Access Memories
I still remember picking up the CD for myself well Christmas shopping back in 2013. Random Access Memories is a walk back in time, to the age of disco, funk and the beginnings of techno. With talent like Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams and Pharrell... Williams (no relations) it was their most mainstream album to date, winning them a Grammy award that same year. It was also their final album, but at least they ended on a high note.
8# Michael Giacchino Medal of Honor Frontline soundtrack
I'm going to have to stretch the definition of "album" here, but Micheal Giacchino (Of Ratatouille and The Batman fame) and the Northwest Sinfonia performance is on par with any big budget film. In that same style as those classic '60s and '70s war films with just a touch of Indiana Jones style pulp mixed in, I honestly use this as a workout aid sometimes because it really gets your blood pumping. Perfect music to shoot Nazis to.
9# The Flaming Lips Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002)
Can't rightly describe this album, but it has such a diverse mix of style and surreal sound that I've always come back to it. The titular song, alongside Fight Test are my favorites.
10# Smokey Bastard Propping up the Floor (2008)
As is obviously clear I like history. So it's of little shock I like a good sea shanty or ballad, mix a bit of rock in there and to quote Carl Weathers "Baby, you’ve got a stew going." Their rendition of The Cumberland Crew is especially moving.

The Evolution of Selena Gomez’s Music Career
Selena Gomez has remained a dominant force in the entertainment industry for over a decade. From her early days as a Disney Channel star to her rise as a globally recognized pop artist, Gomez has showcased incredible versatility in her music. Her evolution as a singer has been nothing short of inspiring, marked by an ever-changing sound, deeper lyrical themes, and a more confident artistic identity. Over the years, she has experimented with pop, EDM, R&B, and Latin influences, proving that she is unafraid to grow with her audience.
Early Days with The Scene and Pop-Rock Beginnings
Before Selena Gomez embarked on her solo career, she fronted the pop-rock band Selena Gomez & The Scene, which gained popularity with energetic, upbeat songs that appealed to teenagers. The band's debut album, Kiss & Tell (2009), featured the hit Naturally, a track that solidified Gomez as more than just a TV star. The success of this album led to two more releases, A Year Without Rain (2010) and When the Sun Goes Down (2011), both of which delivered a mix of dance-pop and electronic influences.
Songs like Round & Round and Love You Like a Love Song quickly became anthems, propelling the band to international success. These early records helped Gomez refine her vocal abilities and stage presence, paving the way for her transition into a solo artist. While she was already well-known for her acting career, her growing reputation as a singer allowed her to break into the mainstream music industry.
The Shift to a Solo Career and Chart Domination
In 2013, Gomez made the bold decision to step away from Selena Gomez & The Scene and pursue a solo career. Her first solo album, Stars Dance, marked a significant departure from the band’s pop-rock sound, embracing electronic dance music (EDM) and sultry beats. The album’s lead single, Come & Get It, became a massive hit, reaching the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and introducing a more mature and confident Selena Gomez to the world.
Following the success of Stars Dance, Gomez released a greatest hits album, For You (2014), which included the heartfelt ballad The Heart Wants What It Wants. The song provided a glimpse into her personal struggles, resonating deeply with fans. This was a turning point in her music career, where she began incorporating more vulnerable and introspective themes into her lyrics.
Her next album, Revival (2015), further established her as a force in the industry. Songs like Good for You, Same Old Love, and Hands to Myself showcased a newfound confidence, with R&B influences and minimalist production. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and proved that Gomez had successfully reinvented herself as a solo pop star.
Experimentation and Growth as an Artist
Selena Gomez continued to experiment with her sound, collaborating with some of the biggest names in music. In 2017, she released Bad Liar, a song praised for its unconventional structure and stripped-down production. She followed it with Fetish, featuring rapper Gucci Mane, which further pushed the boundaries of her musical style. During this time, she also explored Latin music, teaming up with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Cardi B for Taki Taki, a reggaeton-infused hit that introduced her to a new audience.
By 2019, Gomez was ready to make another statement with her deeply personal ballad Lose You to Love Me, a song reflecting on self-growth and past relationships. The track became her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single and was praised for its raw emotion and minimalist piano accompaniment. The accompanying album, Rare (2020), featured a mix of self-empowerment anthems and experimental beats, proving that Gomez was willing to take risks with her music.
Her influence expanded beyond English-language music when she released the Spanish-language EP Revelación (2021), which included hits like Baila Conmigo and De Una Vez. This move showcased her ability to connect with her Latin roots and further cemented her status as a global pop icon.
Her Impact on the Music Industry and Longevity
Selena Gomez’s success is not solely defined by her chart-topping singles. She has built a legacy as an artist who evolves with time, embracing change while staying authentic to her artistic vision. Beyond her music, she has used her platform to advocate for mental health awareness, body positivity, and self-love, making her an inspiration to millions.
Many of the Selena Gomez songs hits have resonated with listeners because they capture real emotions and experiences. Unlike many pop stars who fade after a few years, Gomez has remained relevant by adapting her sound and fearlessly exploring different musical directions. Whether it’s a catchy dance track, a vulnerable ballad, or a Latin-infused anthem, her ability to connect with audiences is undeniable.
What’s Next for Selena Gomez?
As she continues to explore new artistic avenues, fans eagerly anticipate what Selena Gomez will release next. Her latest singles, including Single Soon, hint at more fun, carefree music, but given her track record, she is bound to surprise audiences with deeper, more experimental work as well. Gomez’s career is proof that growth and reinvention are key to longevity in the music industry.
With her powerful vocals, emotional songwriting, and willingness to push boundaries, Selena Gomez remains one of the most influential artists of her generation. Her ability to transition seamlessly between different musical styles while maintaining a strong personal identity is what sets her apart. While trends come and go, her music continues to stand the test of time, ensuring that she remains an icon for years to come.

Throwback: Neneh Cherry-Buffalo Stance
Tumblr media
Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" made her an international pop star when it became a Top Ten hit in more than 10 countries. The first single from her 1989 debut album Raw Like Sushi was the reinvention of another song. "Looking Good Diving With The Wild Bunch" was the b-side to "Looking Good Diving" by Morgan-McVey, a duo comprised of Jamie Morgan and Cherry's future spouse Cameron McVey. Cherry sang and rapped on the former which sounded like a mix of freestyle and electro. Cherry re-recorded  "Looking Good Diving With The Wild Bunch" with producer and DJ Tim Simenon also known as Bomb The Bass and "Buffalo Stance." The new song was hip-hop and Cherry's line "No money-man can win my love it's sweetness that I'm dreaming of" imprinted upon the brains and hearts of all who heard it.  She explained in interviews that the "Buffalo Stance" was the posture people needed to survive in urban spaces and it also referred to Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals, " one of the songs sampled.
The video was in regular rotation on MTV and Cherry received an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist nomination for "Buffalo Stance."  Raw Like Sushi became a landmark album enchanting listeners with its pop, R&B, and hip-hop blend. In 2019, the Raw Like Sushi 30th Anniversary Deluxe edition was released. In 2022, Cherry's sixth studio album of redone songs from her catalog The Versions came out. She just announced her forthcoming memoir A Thousand Threads due for release in October. Fern Press is publishing the title that has Cherry acknowledging "the power of love and the joy of creativity." A Thousand Threads can be pre-ordered now.

Grapejuice

SUMMARY: With the world knowing of their once secret relationship, Harry and YN navigate life together as an official couple and everything that comes with it. (4.6k)
GENRE: 1dbandmember!reader, famous!yn
Previous Song Here! 🍣// Building Harry's House masterlist // SINCE 2010 masterlist
Tumblr media
—2019—
One week.
It's been 7 days since Harry and YN have officially confirmed their relationship, cutting out all the back and forth, walking on eggshells of confused feelings and paranoia. The two have finally locked hands and officially crossed the fine line of friendship, unofficial lovers and everything in between.
It's also been 7 days since Harry has persuaded his girlfriend to go to Jonny's, one of his close childhood friends, house for a New Years Eve party with the security and reassurance that the guests attending are only going to be a couple of close friends. In simple terms, there's going to be people who aren't going to plaster the couple on social media or spread rumors about them after the night is over.
They’ve been at the party for about two hours now and it's apparent that Jonny has a different definition of “a couple of close friends.” There has to be at least a hundred people at his property. His penthouse has people flowing about it with the music blasting. Every room seemed to be filled with gold decorations: streamers, balloons, confetti, there were even some of those cheesy 2020 party sunglasses going around.
The moon has officially appeared its way into the night sky and this is YN’s only indication of the time. Her and Harry agreed to keep off of their phones for the night with the exception of calling their families once it was the new year. They wanted the night to just be focused on them two without a worry from the outside world.
YN dries her hands on the bathroom towel and fixes her hair a bit in the mirror. She runs her hands down her corset-like top to make sure it was not too tight but enough to feature her curves. She turned to the side to fix the waistband of her black trousers one last time before her white heels ring through the lavish bathroom as she starts heading out.
When she exits the bathroom, she politely smiles at a couple waiting outside. They return the gesture and both go inside the large bathroom giggling.
Oh the joys of new year’s eve parties: sex, alcohol, and more sex.
She walks through the kitchen to the huge living room. Some people are dancing to the DJ's music, other couples are suction cupped together by the mouth and some people are simply chatting with others.
YN goes to the kitchen where Jonny is currently mixing drinks for the people around him.
She wasn’t planning to drink the night away, but Harry's words keep flooding back into her mind, “I think we deserve to enjoy more of our holiday before it’s over, don’t y’think?”
“Hey YN! What can I get yeh, love?” Jonny asks with a friendly smile, throwing the dish towel to lay over his shoulder after handing off the freshly made drinks.
Harry has been the one making her drinks for the night (for as long as she can remember really) mixing drinks for her when they’ve tasted too strong or way too bitter. So she goes with her one selected drink choice that she knows she’ll like.
YN blows out a raspberry before saying, “Got something old and red?”
"V'got just the thing." She smiles as he excitedly taps the marble counter before scurrying off to the cabinet just for storing wine. She’s only met Jonny a hand-full of times whenever they visit her boyfriend’s hometown. From what she’s gathered, he's a fun, out-going kind of guy who’s always throwing a party for some sort of occasion. He’s really genuine, down-to-earth, and (from what Harry told her) he cares about everyone no matter if they’ve known each other for 10 years or 10 minutes.
When she leans her elbows on the marble island to wait for her drink to be ready, she feels two large hands make their way around her waist and press their body to her backside.
“Excuse me, m’am,” she hears Harry say in her ear, a smirk creeping onto her face. “But I saw you from across the room and couldn’t help but notice how gorgeous you look tonight. Can I get yeh a drink?”
“Sorry sir,” YN says, turning her head lightly to where his is resting on her shoulder. “But I don't think my boyfriend will like another bloke getting me a drink.”
Just as the words finish leaving her lips a wine glass is placed in front of her.
“1982 Chateau Lafleur, from Pomerol, France for the lady.” Jonny says, giving the couple a friendly nod before being whisked away by his other guests. She grabs her drink and turns around in Harry's arms, careful not to spill the red liquid on her top.
“Well, whoever this fella is, he’s a lucky guy to have yeh.” Harry says, towering over her. She feels his arms tighten around her back and she giggles, her neck craning as she looks up at him.
“Yeah well, between you and me,” she makes a motion with her finger to bring his head down to hers, the smirk never leaving Harry's face. “I think he’s gay.” She says into his ear and walks away from his embrace taking a sip from her drink. She laughs as he hears him groan, quick on her heels.
“Oi c’mon. Why y’gotta ruin the game, lovie?” He goes in front of her and walks backwards, taking her hand in his.
YN hasn’t been able to wipe the smile off her face that her cheeks might be sore tomorrow. All evening, they haven’t been able to keep their hands off of each other. Whether it’s a hand on her back while catching up with some old friends, an arm over her shoulder when having a drink, or like now when they’re hands are in each others. Any chance he gets, Harry tells everyone they meet that she’s been nominated for five grammys and how proud he is of her.
While still holding her hand, Harry sits down on an open corner of one of the couches. He opens his legs a bit so she can stand in between them. It’s times like these where she’s taller than Harry and has him looking up at her that makes her think back to other times he’s been beneath her. She giggles as she thinks of what it would be like to actually be taller than him.
Maybe she should quit drinking now before the alcohol really kicks in.
“What’s got you all giggly, huh?” Harry asks her while tugging her to him, unable to hold back a smile when he hears her laugh.
“Harry, my grapejuice!” she laughs as her wine almost spills on the both of them from his pulling. She straddles his lap and leans forward to place her drink on the side table behind him. She feels his hand slide up and press down on her lower back to keep her there as he leans back into the velvet couch cushions. She places a hand next to his head on the back of the couch as she looks down at him.
It feels oddly satisfying to be out in a semi public place and to be able to touch each other. Nothing too crazy like the other people around them but enough to just openly show some affection. Especially when he looks up at YN like the way he is now, with his eyes slightly pink from the drinks he’s had throughout the night and the way his two front teeth begin to nip at his lower lip while glancing down at hers.
As comfortable as she is, she can’t help but sit up and look around to make sure no one is taking any pictures of them out of habit.
“Hey,” Harry sits up as he looks up at her in a serious manner. “No one is watching us. They’re too busy getting drunk off their asses to even glance our direction. If anything, we’re the most tame couple here.”
He puts a hand to her cheek to make her wandering eyes go back to him. He hates that she’s so paranoid like this. He loves his job and he knows that she loves her’s, but it’s times like these where he wishes they were someone else. Someone who isn’t in the public eye or can end up in tabloids for just walking down the street to go out to eat.
“Yeah. Yeah you’re right. M’sorry.” YN says, putting her head down and starts to fidget with the rings on her fingers. “Just a habit y’know?”
“Yeah, I know baby.” Her eyes meet his and she gives him a smile that doesn’t meet her eyes.
“M’sorry it bothers me so much. I wish it didn’t.”
She’s the most stubborn, head-stronged person he knows so it makes his heart sink at the fact that she’s acting this way. He’ll admit, it does boost his ego up a bit that she’s so confident about everything else but  he can make her nervous when it comes to the two of them.
“Nothing to be sorry for love.” Harry softly taps his knuckle under her chin. “The only thing you should be sorry for is not letting me see this top before at home.”
YN throws her head back in laughter at the unexpected statement. She knew he would like her top. His fingers haven’t stopped running over the lace texture on her back ever since she put it on.
“You really like it?” she says, already knowing the answer. The hand on her cheek now moves down to her neck, his palm resting at the base of her throat. Harry’s fingers squeeze slightly as an indication for her to move her ear to be at the same level as his lips. Her fingers peak into the top part of his black shirt and she runs them lightly over the curve of his collarbones.
“I think you already know the answer to that.” Harry says seductively. “Or do you need me to show you in another way?” A shiver goes down YN’s spine and when she pulls her head back slightly, his eyes bore into hers.
The hand running up and down her back moves lower to rest on the top part of her bum. They both lean into each other’s touches and their lips touch for the first time tonight.
At the start of the night, YN was very paranoid to show PDA; her hands were always cold and clammy, her fingers a fidgety mess and her overall anxiety was through the roof. She’s been trained for the majority of her career to be nothing but discreet, her management painting her with this forced “good girl” image that was hard to break out of.
It was comforting to know that Harry cares about their relationship and has put in the same amount of effort into keeping their love a secret. So it was kind of shocking for her to hear that Harry wanted to let loose tonight and act as if their relationship wasn’t a secret. But at the same time...it also was exciting and freeing to be able to act like a couple in love in their twenties, to act like any other couple here tonight. A significant amount of weight has been lifted off of their shoulders and the night could not get any better than this.
They both have had their fair share of relationships not only being ruined by the media, but by their management. But tonight, they both feel an overwhelming amount of happiness by their actions. Nothing else matters, nobody else exists, it’s just the two of them.
The two stay like this for a while. YN stays on Harry's lap as they share kisses mixed with giggles. It’s not long before she shifts around so she sits sideways across his thighs. Harry steals some of her drink every now and then and they talk with some other guests as they pass by. They take shots with Jonny and some of his friends before she drags Harry to the dancefloor once they’ve had enough drinks in their systems.
Before they know it, everyone begins to pile into the living room. Jonny stands on top of the coffee table, holding his drink up in the air as he begins to count down from 10.
Harry pulls YN close to his chest from amongst the crowd, arms over her shoulders as they look at where Jonny stands in the middle of the room as everyone joins in.
3...
“I love you, YN.” Harry nudges against the shell of her ear.
2...
“I love you, Harry.” She leans her head back to meet his eyes.
1...Happy new year!
YN throws her arms in the air and she yells her first words of 2020. Harry has his arms spread out beside him and he cheers with an open mouthed smile. He bends forward and wraps his arms around YN's low back. Her arms encircle his neck and they both lean in to kiss with bright, tipsy smiles on their faces. As they kiss, Harry leans forward and makes YN arch her back. Her hands go to the nape of his neck and slightly tug at hair there.
"Happy new year, baby." Harry says against her lips.
"Happy new year."
"Let's call our mums and then let's go sneak off somewhere private, yeah? Go christen in the new year?" Harry suggests, a sly smirk tugs on the corner of his lips when she nods excitedly.
He gives her a final peck before he reaches around to take out his phone out of his back pocket. He blinks quite a bit when he sees his manager's name lighting up his screen.
"Happy new years, Jeffy!" He yells from over the cheers and music around him.
YN's eyes go wide with drunken excitement, grabbing Harry's forearm to bring the phone close to her mouth.
"It's a new year, Jeffery! Sending love from yeh favorite Love Birds.” She laughs.
As random guests come up to YN and hug her, but in the midst of the celebration she sees the way Harry’s smile slowly tugs itself down. His eyebrows furrow and his serious gaze meets hers. Dismissing herself with a smile to a random girl, she makes her way over to her love.
"H? Baby, what's wrong?"
Harry doesn't say anything, he just looks around the crowded living room for a second before interlocking their hands. Unable to go outside on the patio due to it snowing, he leads her to the empty kitchen with the phone still pressed to his cheek.
"What's wrong?" She repeats when he hangs up the phone. He hasn’t said another word since he answered the phone. "Harry, you're scaring me."
“Jonny just exposed our relationship.” He finally says, avoiding her wide eyes. He curses under his breath and runs a frustrated hand through his hair before quickly typing away on his phone.
His words don’t fully seem real, like they weren’t even meant for her and they almost go in one ear and out the other. The alcohol running through her veins certainly doesn't help the situation; she has to blink a few times to ground herself. But once it finally registers in her brain, her heart drops right down to her feet. She quickly steps over to him and pulls her phone out from his trouser pocket. Before she could even unlock it, her manager’s name lights up the screen.
“YN?” Jenny’s panicked voice comes through the speaker. “What the hell happened? Are you guys ok? Don’t worry, hun, we’re gonna figure this out...”
Her manager’s voice drowns out as Harry stands next to his love so they can see his phone screen together. Their names are trending all over Twitter and he doesn’t have to scroll at all before clicking on a video with their names in the caption.
They both look at a screen recorded Instagram story video of Jonny taking shots with his friends earlier tonight in selfie mode. It seems like a perfectly normal video, nothing out of the ordinary as a group of friends drink for the upcoming new year. That is until the couple could be seen in the background, YN on Harry's lap as she throws her head back in laughter. Both of their eyes widen at the sight.
As the video goes on, Jonny’s head blocks their figures but once they are in view again, Harry's hand can be clearly seen on her bum and their heads are way too close together to pass off as friendly. Now what has them both sucking in a sharp breath through their lips is right before the video ends, there is no possible way to miss that fact that the video captures their once freeing kiss.
One week.
It's been 7 days since they've made their relationship official and for it to be exposed.
—2020—
“We used to book a studio and be like, ‘Okay, we’ve got it for two months, grind it out.’ But some days you just don’t want to be there, and eventually you’ve been in the studio so long, the only thing you can write about is nothing because you haven’t done anything." Harry moves his hand around as he talks, his chunky rings clink together every now and then. "So with this album, we’d work for a couple of weeks and then everyone would go off and live their lives.”
The couple was trying to stay under the radar for as long as they possibly can for the time being. The two have been keeping off of social media and focusing on solely each other during this vulnerable time, but what they didn’t know was that the Internet was going absolutely crazy over the leaked video.  Harry remembers when he went out for the first time since the new year began to go down to a hidden flower shop down in Homes Chapel.
In the small shop, there’s was a small TV hung up in the corner mostly playing as background noise to fill the plant covered space. So as Harry brings out his wallet to pay for a small bouquet for his love, the social media news reporter makes his ears perk up.
"Former One Direction stars, Harry Styles and YN YL, were seen getting up close and personal this New Years Eve. A video was released from one of the couple’s close friend’s Instagram Story with the former band members in the background. Since 1D went on hiatus, the two have been seen spending more and more time together, always claiming how much they're simply close friends and nothing more. Could this have been a spur of the moment incident or were they merely caught doing something that they've been doing for years? The pop stars’ fan base is buzzing with their opinions. Some are against them being together while others have claimed they knew this information since their One Direction days. But for the most part, the fandom is purely overjoyed by the news. Now the new question on everyone's mind is where are the couple now? And when is their anniversary?
Harry remembers politely thanking the old woman behind the counter and quickly leaving the shop. He remembers setting down her bouquet of assorted flowers with his shoes by the door at the sight of his love still sleeping in his bed. Her back bare with a thin white sheets covering her lower half, her face squished against the pillow. He remembers stripping down to his briefs and sliding under the covers with her. How can he forget the warmth in his chest as she sleepily shuffles her way close to his side, snuggling her face deep into the crook of his neck, and feeling the need for nothing else?
It was right there and then that he decided to take his girlfriend to a little villa he owns in Italy to lay low. The couple went MIA for nearly two months and after loaded discussions between themselves and then their management teams, they decided to make their official public debut as a couple at the Brits Awards. As terrifying as it seemed at the start, they both an unexpected sense of ease when being in the red carpet together, hands intertwined the entire night, and being snuggled up in one another during the interviews the host was making at each table.
Their time in Italy did them more good than they ever thought to imagine. So as the world slowly started to open their doors back up, one of the first places they went back to was the peaceful scenery of Italy.
“Are you writing a love song about me?"
Harry peaks over his writing journal to find YN leaning against the doorframe of the recording studio with a playful smirk on her face. He'a laying down on one of the leather couches in the small space and decided to write down his song inspiration before it escaped him.
“Wouldn’t be the first time. And I can tell you that it won’t be the last.”
“Well.” YN sighs as she takes a seat at the end of the couch by his feet.
“Well.” Harry mocks back, imitating her shaking her head and wide eyes.
“Lemme read it.” She says with a matter of fact, like he should have already handed her the journal.
“Um...no?”
“Why not?”
“S’private.”
“Come on, m’gonna hear it anyways when yeh put it on the album.”
Harry lets out a playful scoff. “Well that’s very narcissistic of yeh to think that yet another song about you s’going on the album.” He teases, knowing full well that it’s going to be.
His smile only grows further when she pushes her shoulder to her ear in a shrug. “Yeh rubbing off on me. Now lemme see it.”
Harry smirks when she reaches for his journal but he moves it out of her grasp just in time for her to miss.
She keeps reaching for it until she’s practically crawling on top of him. He drops the journal on the floor behind him before wrapping his arms around her torso, trapping her between the couch and himself. He presses his smiling lips to hers and she lazily wraps her arms around his shoulders, blindly taking off the blue baseball cap off his head to card her fingers through his hair.
“Alright Love Birds, get a room.” Jeff comes into the room with the rest of the production team following behind him. For the sake of semi-professionalism, YN reluctantly crawls her way out of her sandwiched position and leaves her love laying spread on the couch.
"Wait, are yeh telling me we aren't in a room?" YN sarcastically knocks on the wall by Harry's head. "Damn it, H. Looks like we've been outside this whole fookin' time."
"Alright, alright. No need for the sass." Harry's manager puts his hands up as the room chuckles at their banter. "Let's get to work."
With a playful roll of her eyes, YN snatches Harry's journal and baseball cap from the floor.
"Think yeh dropped this." She places the leather bound book on his chest, giving her boyfriend a wink before sliding the cap onto her head and situating herself in front of the studio console.
"A line that I helped write and I feel has a subtle double meanin' is I pay for it more than I did back then. Not only am I paying more for an actual bottle of wine, but for what has happened when my relationship was publicly outed." Although her hands are out of view from the interview camera, Harry still notices from the sidelines how she twists at the ring on her index finger out of nerves. Talking about their newly public relationship was still a sensitive topic for the both of them and it screams volumes at the sight of his girl visibly (though subtle) getting anxious.
"I think we did a fair job at keeping things under-wraps for as long as we did but eh, now it's just something we gotta move forward from I guess." YN chuckles.
There's just no gettin' through
Without you
A bottle of rouge
Just me and you
With the song halfway finished, the production team has moved out to the patio area of the house the couple rented for the week. The table was buzzing with chatter, laughter and lots and lots of wine. Everyone sits around in the comfortable lounging seating that's surrounded by various vines and greenery and Harry can't help but feel a bit of nostalgia.
When the group was making his last album, they sat in similar position, the only difference this time around is that instead of Harry longing to be in Mitch's seat next to YN, Harry was now actually snuggled up against his love. With a few drinks in, he can't help but fondly look towards his girlfriend as she listens in and chats with the rest of the team.
Through his tipsy thoughts, he's suddenly overcome with the realization that he's actually in Italy with YN not merely as his best friend, not with the woman he's secretly in love with, not even as her secret on and off lover, but as his official girlfriend. During their time in the band to their solo careers, for almost a decade they've traveled to so many parts of the world that it's been impossible to keep count. But now, Italy has become the first place they've traveled together as a couple.
“YN! Y’phone’s ringin’!” Kid calls over from the doorway of the brick home. YN hums in acknowledgement as she takes her last sip of wine before untangling herself from Harry's arm over her shoulders. Before she can stand up from her seat, Harry can’t help but pull her back and cup her cheeks for a quick kiss.
“Hurry back,” He mumbles shyly.
“Ugh, I think I miss when you guys weren’t together so I don’t have to look at that all the time.”
“Aw don’t worry, Jeffery.” YN says with a sweet smile as Kid hands her her phone. “One day you’ll grow up and find love, too.” She giggles when the group makes a playful “ooo” sound to Harry’s manager before swiping her thumb across the screen without looking at the caller ID. “‘Ello?”
The team goes back to their conversation, laughing and passing around various bottles of wine. But of course, Harry can’t keep his eyes away from his love for too long. He can’t help but admire her sun-kissed sun—one of his favorite things about coming to sunny locations like this—or the way her eyes seem to sparkle under the backyard fairy lights.
But a weary feeling comes over him when he sees her golden smile dim down to a frown, her eyebrows pulling in together, and her once relaxed shoulders become tense. He doesn’t think twice about getting up from his spot as he sees her quickly hang up the phone and look down at it as if she’d seen a ghost.
“Baby?” He gently puts a hand on her shoulder and he’s taken back by the way she flinches back, startled from his touch. “YN, what’s wrong? Who was that on the phone, honey?”
His heart nearly breaks in two at the glossy eyes that blink up at him. She takes in a shaky breath and his body go cold by what she says next.
“I—I think that was my father.”
There's just no gettin' through

what i’m listening to 8/5/2022 (song notes under the cut)
spot link//yt link
Laura Les - Haunted: haunted. by laura les
Radiohead - Idioteque: i listened to kid a for the first time not too long ago and this track made me gasp when it came on. something about it just absolutely touches the base of my skull
Rina Sawayama - Hold The Girl: my fav of the singles so far from the upcoming record. rly like the kinda uk garage sound, plus the lyrics + video hit hard. stan rina, etc
Pharrell Williams - Cash In Cash Out (ft. 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator): took a bit of warming up to but i came around. tyler’s verse is the standout here for me, and i like 21′s contributions too. tbh i think the weak link here was, surprisingly, pharrell’s beat, but hey. still gets points for being weird ig
ANGEL_TECH - Keysmash {RE:smashed}: new banger from melodus and metagirl! def my favorite angel_tech song so far. the remix in particular is super energetic
Limp Bizkit - Back Porch: bonus track on my least favorite bizkit album but good GOD is that riff cool as fuck. literally that alone makes it worth it
Steve Lacy - Bad Habit: delightfully quirky and refreshingly summery. i’m glad to see steve lacy continue to have bigger hits bc i don’t think anyone else is doing it quite like him
Radiohead - Everything In It’s Right Place: unlike idioteque, this one took a few relistens to click. i lovvve vocal chopping/mixing and this is that good shit. catchy AND scary! one of the most songs ever
10 Years - Wasteland: have i ever mentioned that i love post-grunge
Kanye West - Gold Digger (ft. Jamie Foxx): like 80% of the appeal here for me is really just the masterful ray charles sample. maybe i should just listen to more ray charles actually
Foo Fighters - Everlong: so touching to me... reaching out for the hand of your love and holding them tight and saying this life is hard and cold and cruel very often but we are here together and i will never falter from you and we will make this worth it. we have to. i feel confident saying this is one of the greatest songs ever
Dove Cameron - Boyfriend: yeah babey let’s see some wlw rep in the top 40!!!!!! this song’s sound is kinda derivative of the billie eilish ripoff sound that has become popular since 2019 but it adds a bit of a jazz kinda thing which is fun, and also more importantly is very hot
Coal Chamber - Loco: MI LOCO. MI LOCO. MI LOCO. MI LOCO.
DJ Rozwell - F1 Tiger Road: soumds
Sugar Ray - Fly: in a surprising twist, i prefer sugar ray’s pop material VASTLY to their early nu metal shit
Limp Bizkit - Head For The Barricade: STICK EM. STICK EM.
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - Get Low (ft. Ying Yang Twins): do i have to say anything here? this is a total classic banger
Maroon 5 - This Love: OKAY! FINE! i’ll admit there is ONE! ONE singular maroon 5 song that i like....
Thousand Foot Krutch - Move: this song fucking sucks!!!! but it’s very funny to me. bc mr. krutch wants so badly to be like a tough nu metal guy but his voice is so thin and nothing that he just can’t 😭 i did steal this talking point from a crash thompson video btw

Listed: Jeffrey Alexander
Tumblr media
Jeffrey Alexander is a fixture in a free-wheeling, Grateful Dead-loving, guitar jam underground, a founder of the Iditarod and Black Forest/Black Sea and a sometime member of Jackie O Motherfucker. His Direwolves splice acid folk with a buzzing, humming motoric-ness that edges near Stereolab, but his latest band, the Heavy Lidders, is pure transcendental pleasure. In her review, Jennifer Kelly noted that, “These songs take their time to loosen and relax, pursuing repetitive vamps until the edges melt away and the hard colors swirl into pastels.” Alexander is also a DJ and here he lists some of the music he spins for listeners.
For this Listed, I decided to run down some of the bootlegs and quirky things that I often play on my radio show — hope you dig it. I started doing radio back in college in the 1980s, where I was also the record librarian. The archives at the station opened me up to a myriad of sounds and new zones. Radio for me is like a new mixtape — not knowing what is going to come next… or waiting for the next mic break to try and find out the name of that killer song they played 15 minutes ago. The mystery of it all is still exciting, like remnants of pre-internet music fandom when we searched through record stores, made lists from music magazines and traded tapes. I had a spell as a commercial FM DJ on WRNR in Maryland in the 1990s, but it wasn’t until moving to San Francisco that I started my own program called Pome Pome Tones. PPT currently broadcasts Wednesdays 7-9pm Central fortnightly on www.dunebuggyradio.com. Podcasts are up at www.mixcloud.com/dwlvs.
Fairport Convention — Reno Nevada — April 27, 1968
youtube
Recorded live on the French TV program Bouton Rouge. Brooke Sietinsons of The Espers turned me on this this when we were VHS tape trading in 2000 and I’ve been retreating to it every so often for 20 years. This is Fairport at their most delightfully blinding San Francisco ballroom jamming free flight. It’s just so fucking good. I love the crisp dual vocals of Judy Dyble and Ian Matthews, I especially love that they both sit down and look so bored during the guitar jam out. Especially Judy, just like a Donna Jean icy stare. But the jam out is super nice too — modal jazzy freak-outs, some of Richard Thompson’s best ever captured on video. This takes the most boring song from my favorite Richard and Mimi Farina album to incredible new zones. I also tend to play a lot of Ian Matthews’ early 1970s records on my radio show, as well. Such a pure voice and perfect ringwear rock vibes.
The Smiths — How Soon Is Now? (Chopped + Screwed)
youtube
The chopped + screwed style coming out of Houston, TX in the late 1990s/early 2000s is so fascinating. Full-on Robitussin-fueled shamanism, it’s like the modern-day version of dub. There are so many examples of this across the spectrum, but this 10-minute chopped version of The Smiths takes the cake — probably because 16-year-old me in 1984 sat on the floor listening to the original version of this over and over again, studying the gatefold. But this version is so much better. Thank you Scobed + Robed.
I’m Still In Love With You (Alton Ellis, Sean Paul)
youtube
Althea + Donna’s Uptown Top Ranking is one of my all-time favorite songs, and one of John Peel’s as well. A well-worn Jamaican riddim starting with Alton Ellis in 1967 and made famous again by Marcia Aitken in 1977. DJ Algoriddim has expertly mixed together a boat load of these variations here and it’s a killer 30-minute jam.
Jon Rose – Paganini’s Last Testimony
youtube
When things get autumnal each year, I gear up for a spooky edition of my radio show. One of my favorites featured this Jon Rose piece which he originally broadcast on ABC, Australia in 1988. It’s an amazing sinister collage of bible-belt radio bits, demonic violin, and Rose reciting devilish text from Paganini’s own letters. The CD is long out of print but you can hear the entire 57 minutes of this glorious creation on an old episode of Pome Pome Tones here.
10cc — I’m Not In Love 1975 Disco Purrfection Version
youtube
12-minute remix version of a favorite song from my early childhood — unbelievably smooth mix by DJ Disco Cat. Read the comments on the YouTube post for the full mix backstory. Purrfect.
Sun Ra Arkestra — at Victoria Theater, San Francisco California — Aug 3, 2013
youtube
I’ve been super fortunate to experience the live Arkestra a handful of times, and this set from 2013 simply floored me. They completely consumed that old ratty theater space with their magical floating power.
Dire Wolves — at Festival of Endless Gratitude, Copenhagen Denmark — Sep 13, 2019
youtube
Live DWLVS ! Yeah, I play my own music on my radio show all the time, somebody has to. This is a short rough audience clip — the proper audio of the whole set was released on LP by Feeding Tube / Cardinal Fuzz with a fabulous poster.
Flow & Heady by Dire Wolves Just Exactly Perfect Sisters Band
Copenhagen 2019 was the last time I saw these DWLVS bandmates in person, but we have plans to meet up again at the Milwaukee Psych Fest November 19-20, 2021, unless ya all spreadnecks shut it down.
Chuck Brown and The Junkyard Band — at Wilmer’s Park, Brandywine Maryland — Sep 19, 1989
youtube
I grew up in Baltimore and spent a lot of time going to punk and hippie shows in DC (old 9:30, DC space) in the 1980s, but Wilmer’s Park in southern MD was totally the place. All-day and night go-go shows, mini festivals with overnight camping, shows from Hot Tuna, Zero, Allmans, Root Boy Slim (!!!) and some of the best BBQ I’ve eaten, oh man. There was a lot of crossover of punk/funk/crunchy scenes back then, I loved it all. I went to a lot of Trouble Funk gigs, but this was the only time I witnessed the legendary Chuck Brown.
Alice Coltrane — at Palace of Culture, Warsaw Poland — Oct 23, 1987
youtube
Harp solo during her appearance at the Jazz Jamboree festival in 1987. Perfect, transportive.
Bardo Pond — What Are Their Names?
youtube
Probably the greatest band of the last 30 years covering one of my absolute favorite David Crosby songs, what could be better? I curated this Terrastock festival in Providence RI in 2006 and assembled a CD compilation of some of the performers for a micro release on the label I used operate called Secret Eye. The original features Jerry Garcia, Neil Young, Phil Lesh (what an amazing LP!) and this Bardo version somehow channels that essence in a slow fried perfect hash jar tempo.

20 Asian American Musicians To Add To Your Playlist Now
Tumblr media
Over the past several years, the K-pop industry in the U.S. has grown exponentially. The fan enthusiasm behind bands like BTS has drawn parallels to The Beatles, and so many K-pop groups have received the same passionate reception. The attention is well-deserved, but Asian artists represent a multitude of musical genres (even just within the K-pop industry) — a fact that should not be overlooked. Whether you're a fan of indie rock, R&B, hip-hop, or dance music, you won't want to sleep on these Asian American musicians.
Asian artists have recently received some long-deserved recognition in the entertainment industry, primarily in film. In 2020, Bong Joon-ho's Parasite won big at the Oscars. The following year, Youn Yuh-Jung won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Minari, which also scored The Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun a nomination for Best Actor. However, there's still plenty of work to be done within the music landscape to ensure equal representation is achieved.
BTS, most notably, has seen unprecedented success in the U.S. Still, despite being invited to attend the last three Grammys, they've yet to take home an award, highlighting the discrepancy between their immense success and the Recording Academy's willingness to acknowledge it. Additionally, Asian artists have a harder time landing record deals. As American Idol alumni Paul Kim explained to The New York Times, he was blatantly told by industry execs he would have been signed to a label faster had he not been Asian.
By streaming these artists, you're not only supporting them and their art, but you're subsequently showing industry insiders just how valuable they are. Consider this list sonic proof Asian artists are making exceptional, diverse music that can't be boxed into one genre or sound. Each of these artists prides themselves on breaking boundaries and creating their own rules. You may have heard of a few, but many have been flying under the radar for far too long. Your ears will thank you soon enough.
Melissa Polinar
Polinar got her start in the late 2000s when viral YouTube covers paved the way for success. While artists like Justin Bieber and Lennon & Maisy were sharing music covers, Polinar focused on posting her original music — and her soulful vocals were a hit. In 2019, the Filipino-American songwriter actually re-recorded one of the songs that propelled her career forward, "Try," on its 10-year anniversary.
Eric Nam
Born and raised in Atlanta, Nam moved to Korea to pursue music because he felt he had a better chance of succeeding there. “Even if you look at American Idol, or X-Factor, or The Voice or anything, it was always difficult to see an Asian or an Asian-American make it to a certain point,” Nam told TIME in November 2019. Today, Nam is a highly visible and respected name in the K-pop industry. While he's very proud of his K-pop success, he considers himself a pop singer first. He hopes to grow his success stateside and told TIME, "I want people to hear my music and say, 'I don’t know who this person is,' and I could be Black, white, Latino, Asian — it doesn’t matter, but it’s just a great pop song."
Clinton Kane
Kane's got every making of a great singer-songwriter, and his lyricism will make a fan out of loyal Ed Sheeran or Sam Smith listeners. The Filipino-American singer's impressive vocal range captivates, and his emotion-driven lyrics will melt your heart. One of his more popular tracks, "Chicken Tendies," has upwards of 2 million views and is a must-add to your heartbreak playlist.
Jhené Aiko
As a mixed-race Japanese, Creole, Dominican, and European woman, Aiko has proudly championed her diverse roots throughout her accomplished career. The R&B singer is a six-time Grammy-nominated artist and is well respected within the industry for her philanthropic endeavors. She launched the WAYS foundation in 2017, an organization dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families.
Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki is hardly a newcomer to the EDM scene, but as one of the most prominent DJs in the industry, and one of the biggest Japanese DJs ever, it would be a crime to leave him off this list. Aoki even has his own record label and, in 2016, Netflix released I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, a documentary about his career.
Karen O
As the lead singer for the rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O has solidified her spot as a rock music legend. Not only is the Korean-American singer's discography with the band a must-listen for any rock music fan, but her 2019 album with Danger Mouse, Lux Prima, earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance.
H.E.R.
Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, H.E.R. (aka Gabi Wilson) has become one of the most prominent names in R&B. At just 23 years old, the singer-songwriter already has four Grammy wins and 13 nominations. Along the way, she's never shied away from praising her Filipino mother and Black father, Agnes and Kenny Wilson, for giving her the unique perspectives that propelled her musical success.
Toro Y Moi
Toro Y Moi is actually one person (Chaz Bear) and he's become the unofficial king of chillwave. Born to a Filipino mother, the South Carolina native later relocated to California to further his music career. If you need some chill vibes on your playlist, Bear's got you covered.
Ruby Ibarra
Ibarra is a Filipino-American rapper from San Lorenzo, California who also dabbles in spoken word poetry. Her music is meaningful in more ways than one. A number of her songs touch upon her experience as an Asian American woman. In April 2021, she released a powerful song and video called "Gold" with Ella Jay Basco, which exposed the harmful effects of the skin whitening industry.
Ella Jay Basco
You may recognize Basco from her appearance in Birds of Prey, but her music is not to be slept on because it's making major waves. Her song "Gold" with Ruby Ibarra highlights her Filipino heritage. As she told People, "From top to bottom, we wanted to make sure that our Asian-American community was represented with this project."
Mitski
Meet your new favorite alt-rock queen. Mitski's dreamy melodies appeal to the indie-rock crowd more than anything, and, if you're a sucker for a sad bop, this Japanese-American songstress has plenty of those stacked up.
Yaeji
Yaeji was born in Flushing, Queens in 1993 and grew up between the U.S. and Korea. Since she moved around so much as a kid, she found friendship on the internet, where she first connected with the bossa nova, jazz, and Korean indie music that drove much of the Korean DIY scene. She soon returned to the States to attend college, where she discovered a love for producing and DJing. Now, she meticulously blends hip-hop elements with her house-driven sound for a listening experience that is unlike anything else.
Hayley Kiyoko
Kiyoko has been given the nickname Lesbian Jesus since she’s so outspoken about LGBTQ+ representation in the music industry. The Japanese-American singer is a true trailblazer and her pop music genius has landed her hits with Kehlani, MAX, and AJR.
Jay Park
Park is an industry heavyweight. The Seattle native got his start in the K-pop industry as part of the band 2PM, but he went solo in 2009. Today, not only does the star have dozens of hits under his belt, but he has two record labels of his own that specialize in R&B and hip-hop music: AOMG and H1ghr. Park uses his superstar status to give others the spotlight, and he's put his support behind other artists like GOT7's JAY B and Yugyeom, and Raz Simone. Whether you're a self-proclaimed K-pop stan, or you're just recently getting acquainted with the genre, Park's discography is required listening.
Jin Au-Yeung
Born and raised in North Miami Beach, Florida, the Chinese-American rapper, aka MC Jin, has some seriously impressive accolades under his belt. After becoming popular among his musical peers for his epic freestyles, he was signed to Ruff Ryders in 2002 at just 19 years old, becoming the first Asian American solo rapper to be signed to a major record label in the U.S. He's since parted ways with the label and now travels back and forth between the U.S. and Hong Kong, seeing success in both places. In May 2021, the rapper released a single called "Stop the Hatred" with Wyclef Jean to raise awareness about hate crimes toward Asian Americans amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Olivia Rodrigo
Rodrigo needs no introduction, but I'll do it anyway: This Filipino-American actress-turned-singer-songwriter's mega-hit debut single "drivers license" was unavoidable in January 2021. Its heartbreakingly relatable lyrics about a crush moving on with someone else struck listeners to their core and immediately soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also went viral on TikTok, before making its way into a Saturday Night Live sketch. Rodrigo's songwriting skills have fans likening her to industry heavyweights like Taylor Swift, so it's no surprise her debut album, Sour, is one of the most highly-anticipated albums of summer 2021.
Run River North
Run River North is not just one musician, but three. The band formerly known as Monsters Calling Home is an indie rock band from Los Angeles. The group has an eclectic sound that draws inspiration from each member: Daniel Chae, Alex Hwang, and Sally Kang.
ZHU
When ZHU first entered the electronic music scene, he used an alias and remained anonymous. By 2014, the artist also known as Steven Zhu was ready to share his identity with the world. ZHU got his start in San Francisco, California, but has made his mark on the EDM scene globally.
Darren Criss
Criss rose to fame starring on the television series Glee and he's since proven himself to be a true triple threat. His work can be seen across TV, film, and music. In September of 2018, Criss became the first Filipino-American to win an Emmy in the lead actor category for his portrayal of Andrew Cunanan in FX's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. He’s also got several full-fledged EPs under his belt.
Amber Liu
Amber Liu (also known mononymously as Amber) is of Taiwanese descent and grew up in Los Angeles. She made a big splash when debuting as a member of the K-pop girl group f(x) in September 2009, but has since gone solo. Her 2019 solo track "Other People" racked up millions of streams, and she’s gearing up to drop her first album of 2021, called y?, very soon. In the meantime, she’s continuing to grow her superstar following on social media, where she has 5 million Instagram followers and over 2.3 million on Twitter.

Mixed In Key has low memory usage, so it should run alongside Ableton Live. Tutorial #1 'Harmonic Mixing using Camelot Notation' Harmonic Mixing is a technique that I use to transition between songs while I am DJ'ing. I learned this technique from watching DJ Sasha, Armin Van Buuren and Miguel Migs. Many famous DJs currently use harmonic mixing to supplement their beatmatching technique. Although harmonic mixing seems complicated at first, it is actually very simple. Harmonic mixing is a process of mixing between harmonically compatible songs. When you play the same song back-to-back, the mix will always sound pleasant because the key and the tempo are the same. When you play a Madonna vocal in D major on top of a Kylie Minogue vocal in B major, this could get a little sour. Madonna's vocal is not in the same key as Kylie Minogue. Most people can often tell when something is out of tune, especially if it's two singers. Imagine that Kylie and Madonna are recording together in the same studio. They perform a duet -- Madonna sings in a low voice and Kylie sings in a high voice, but in the same key, perhaps D major. Both artists sound great together. So why don't duets like these work in a club, but succeed in the music studio? In Western music, there are only 24 possible keys. In the first instance, the two keys, D major and B major, do not mix harmonically. In the studio scenario the two vocals in the duet complement each other because they are in the same key. By knowing the key of the song, you can mix it harmonically with other songs once you understand Camelot Notation.
Tumblr media
Camelot Notation tells you which keys will result in harmonic mixes. Using Mixed in Key, you can find the key of each song and translate it to the corresponding Camelot code. With Madonna and Kylie studio duet in D major, the corresponding code would be 10B. But how do you know which mixes are harmonic? Let's stay with our Madonna and Kylie studio duet in 10B. This key is harmonically compatible with the same key, 10B, the key above it, 11B, and the key below, 9B. Look at the chart like a watch and compare the keys to hours. Harmonically compatible mixes are only at the same hour, one hour ahead, and one hour behind. If you changed the studio duet to match Kylie's original B major vocal, it would become 1B. This would mix harmonically with 12B, 1B and 2B. Using this method does not require you to stay in the same key for the entire night. Movement around the Camelot circle can be done one step at a time. You can also move between the inner and outer circle, as long as you stay in the same digit or hour. For example, 2A and 2B are harmonically compatible. You can mix between 2A and 2B and start moving along the outer circle. Your next mix can move back down to 2A, remain in 2B, or move to either 1B or 3B.
Mixed In Key 8.5 Cracked Mac
This traversal of the circle makes every mix harmonic. You can play songs in different keys, find harmonically matching acapellas and remain 100% in key. Mixed In Key supports the Camelot Notation. It can detect the exact key of every .MP3 and .WAV song. Writing these Camelot keys next to your CD sleeves or vinyl sleeves can tell you quickly which songs go well together. Please let me know if you have any questions. Take care,

[ARTICLE] GOLD STAR MEDIA TO HOST HALLOWEEN PARTY FOR SECOND TIME
Following the media success of Gold Star Media’s Halloween party in 2018, fans and press alike waited for news of a followup in 2019, only for Gold Star to pass up hosting the event for a second year in a row.
Gold Star Media has now announced they will once again be hosting a Halloween party this year with attendees from their own company as well as BC Entertainment and Dimensions Entertainment and several other hot figures in the entertainment industry. According to industry insiders, an invite to the party was a hot ticket after Gold Star’s inaugural event saw such praise for attendees’ exciting Halloween looks.
This year, Gold Star has announced the party will have a theme beyond Halloween; it will be a masquerade ball with a “Modern Fairy Tale” theme. Media insiders suggest an even larger amount of attention will be showered on the event’s red carpet by media and fans this year.
The party will happen on Halloween night at an undisclosed venue.
ADMIN NOTES:
It’s time for a Halloween event! Gold Star Media has decided to follow up their successful 2018 Halloween party with another one two years later, this time themed as a masquerade ball. In addition to being a masquerade ball, the event is “Modern Fairy Tale” themed. All idols are expected to attend unless there are major extenuating circumstances such as illness or injury (which should be cleared with the admin, please!).
All attendees to the party are expected to adhere to a roughly creative black tie dress code and are required to bring a masquerade-style mask to accompany their outfit. They are also asked to keep in mind the fairy tale theme of the event, though they may interpret this as they wish; they may choose to dress up in a way that recalls a familiar fairy tale character or simply embody an elegant fairy tale-esque look, and they may choose to modernize it as little or as much as they want. A regular Halloween costume look isn’t expected or likely possible due to the dress code.
Idols will work with company stylists to choose their outfit. They’ll have more say in their look and more freedom than they normally do, but their outfit must still remain public-friendly and appropriate to their group or canon soloist image, i.e. a WISH or Lucid member won’t show up in a daring V-neck cutout dress.
Idol attendees will not be permitted a plus one and couple outfits must be avoided. Idols who serve as ambassadors of brands lending themselves to black tie attire at the time of the event may be encouraged or required within their deal to wear that brand in some way.
There will be a red carpet before entering the event for pictures that will be released as publicity. Group members will arrive at the event with their managers in vans and the rest of their group and photos on the red carpet will be taken in groups and then individually. Appointments at their regular salon will be made available for idols to schedule in advance if necessary. The red carpet will begin at 6pm, while the main event inside the venue will begin at 7pm.
The party will take place at a large modern ballroom-style event venue outside of Seoul proper, which will be decorated with modern, elegant decorations matching a typical modern masquerade ball look with a gold, white, and black color scheme.
Managers and other company employees, including CEO Bang Sunyoung herself for a period of time, will be present at this party, though press will not be allowed inside the venue beyond the red carpet.
Having a masquerade mask will be mandatory, and wearing it inside the venue is encouraged in the spirit of the event.
Activities & Locations Overview:
The entrance lobby is where all attendees will congregate after exiting the red carpet to have their invitations and identities checked before being allowed into the event.
The main room of the event is a large ballroom set up with elegant decor in shades of gold, white, and black (decor examples: 1, 2, 3). Attendees are free to seat themselves as they wish at the tables places along the exterior of the ballroom, though they are reminded that staff is in attendance at the event and they must be on good behavior. Waiters and waitresses will still be present with trays of hors d'oeuvres such a gourmet cheeses, caviar, spiced walnuts, and crab and avocado toast and flutes of champagne, as well as sparkling mineral water for those who do not drink. A live string quartet has been hired for the evening and they will play a mix of classical favorites, songs from fairy tale media, and spooky classics such as horror movie themes. From 9pm onward, the string quartet will leave and be replaced by a DJ to end the night on a more high-energy note. At this point, the central dance floor of the ballroom is expected to become a central part of the event.
Escape room, a section of rooms of the venue have been set aside and taken over by a top escape room company, who has set up a personalized escape room situation within the venue created just for the event. They’ll allow in groups of six to eight people in at a time to solve the fairy tale-themed escape room. The escape room has a time limit of forty minutes with a predicted 60% success rate.
A lawn outside the back of the ballroom. At 10:30PM, there will be a viewing on the lawn of a scary movie on a large screen. Blankets will be laid out on the ground to keep attendees’ expensive outfits from getting dirtied and a smaller selection of small tables around the outskirts of the lawn will also be available.
A garden also outside the back of the ballroom. This features a walking path through a professionally-designed flower garden. Past the flower garden is a small hedge maze lit by lanterns to keep in the spirit of the event.
Photo booths are set up throughout the venue which are free to use. The photo booths include a variety of Halloween- and fairy tale-themed props and offer the option to have the photos sent to your phone or printed off in a traditional photo booth manner.
A scavenger hunt will take place during the full duration of the event. A sign in the entrance lobby before entering the ballroom informs guests that there are six small white jack-o-lanterns hidden throughout the venue with numbers attached and guests that find all six numbers for a special code will win be entered into a lottery to win prizes such as tickets to Everland, a free stay at a resort on Jeju Island, etc. (The jack-o-lanterns can be found as follows: one in the ballroom on a table, one in the ballroom next to the stage with the string quartet, one in the entrance lobby on a white chair, one in the garden against the edge of a flower bed, one down an incorrect path in the maze, and one in a photo booth.) Winners of the lottery will be announced at the end of the event.
Timeline:
6pm-7pm: Red carpet for press photos.
7pm~12am: Masquerade ball main event.
7pm-9:25: String quartet as musical guest in ballroom.
9:25-9:30: Short speech by CEO Bang Sunyoung as a host representative before she leaves the event. The presence of staff members grows steadily more scarce after this point as they begin to leave for the night.
9:30pm~12am: DJ as musical guest in ballroom.
10:30pm~12am: Scary movie screening on back lawn (optional, guests may come and go).

Dion’s path to success in music and business is nothing short of extraordinary.
During the most difficult times of his childhood, he became fixated on music, and began to sing and play various instruments as a means to escape his negative surroundings.
Given his passion for music, Dion’s mother enrolled him in the Cambridge Kiwanis Boys Choir in Canada. Very quickly, he became the Choir’s head soloist and had the opportunity to tour around North America and Europe with the choir. He experienced his first taste of the recording industry when he was chosen to sing a solo on one of the Choir’s albums Christmas Favorites.
As his passion for music continued to grow, he attended a high school for the performing arts where he studied vocal and instrumental music, during which time he learned to play more than 10 instruments.
Dion first gained success with hits including 'Maybe', 'Magic', and a 2005 remake of Corey Hart's megahit 'Never Surrender', all of which appeared on best-selling pop/dance compilation albums. ‘Never Surrender’ peaked at #28 on the R&R Mediabase CHR/Pop Top 30. ‘Magic’ and ‘Never Surrender’ earned Dion a total of three East Coast Music Award nominations in Canada.
With the changing tide of the music industry, Dion decided to take a hiatus to pursue his business interests. As an accomplished entrepreneur, Dion’s business expertise was validated when he graduated in 2017 from one of the most prestigious universities in the world, MIT (The Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with an MBA (Master of Business Administration).
Dion made his return to the music industry in 2017 with a powerful dance ballad ‘Rocketship State of Mind.’ Written and released to support a campaign to bring awareness to human trafficking and domestic abuse, the song was co-written by Dion, along with his mother Christine White, and Grammy award winner Tiffany Fred (Jennifer Hudson). ‘Rocketship State of Mind’ peaked at #22 on the Canadian Top 100 (ADISQ) and earned Dion his fourth East Coast Music Award nomination in 2019 for Dance Recording of the Year.
In 2018, Dion released his follow-up single ‘Remedy for Insanity’. The song peaked at #10 on the Canadian Top 100 radio play chart (ADISQ), and debuted on the coveted USA Billboard Top 50 Dance Club Chart at #48, peaking at #41. An EP of club mixes for ‘Remedy for Insanity’, aptly titled "Club Cure EP", was released on November 23, 2018 and hit #1 on the iTunes dance album sales chart in Canada.
‘Remedy for Insanity’ earned Dion two Independent Music Award nominations in 2019 for Best Dance/Electronica Song, and Best Dance/Electronica EP.
Following the success of 'Remedy for Insanity', Dion released his newest single 'Be Alright' in May 2019. In addition to the original pop mix for the song, the EP for "Be Alright" also features remixes by some of the world's hottest DJs/producers: Dirty Disco, DJ Strobe, Lenny Fontana, Perry Twins, Guy Scheiman, Ronnie "CHICO" Di Cicco, and StoneBridge and Damien Hall. The song catapulted to #5 on the Billboard Top 50 dance club chart, as well as hitting two additional Billboard charts, including #36 on the Billboard Top 50 Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and #35 on the Billboard BDS Mainstream Top 40 national airplay radio indicator chart. The song also hit #30 on the USA Mediabase Mainstream Top 40 national radio activator chart, and cracked the top 20 on nearly every major Dance/DJ pool chart in the world Including zipDJ (Canada), Music Week (UK), and Billboard (USA). Dion scored numerous global #1 album sales spots on the iTunes Top 200 Dance Album sales charts, including hitting #1 in Canada.
Dion’s path to music also propelled him into a passion for inspiring others. During his time as a recording artist, Dion frequently spoke and performed at events in Canada, including visiting the very shelter where he lived with his mother. Dion is passionate about inspiring kids in similar situations. His status puts him in a very unique position to be a role model to children overcoming adversities similar to his own. More importantly, given the fact he could directly relate to them, it made it much easier for the children to listen, and to believe his words, that anything is possible.
Perhaps it is befitting that Dion has come full circle to return to the music industry. As a vulnerable broken child, music contributed to the person he is today. Driven to succeed no matter how difficult the task seemed, he has always been empowered to overcome adversities with a motivation to accomplish the extraordinary.

REFLECTIONS
As many of us have fallen further into the ruts of Spotify, it’s worth noting that the most exciting rap projects of 2019 weren’t available on streaming services: the enigmatic leaks and snippets of Playboi Carti and the incessant string of YouTube-only bangers from the wildly prolific Sada Baby (who also dropped two solid mixtapes and a killer album).
My favorite rappers of the year were rising star turned chart-topper Roddy Ricch and gritty, Flint powerhouse Rio Da Yung OG. Roddy took Album Of The Year with PFMFBA (even though his best track “Ballin” wasn’t on the album) and Rio released at least five solid mixtapes along with dozens of unfailingly-outstanding features.
Duke Deuce’s gloriously rowdy “Yeh” was my favorite rap song. DaBaby seems to be the biggest rapper out and I enjoy his music, but none of his songs made the cut (although he has great appearances on “Cash Shit” and “Under The Sun”). The biggest surprise of the year was having two solid J. Cole features on the list, although I still don’t respect him since he ruined “Planez” (among other things).
I moved to Milwaukee in early 2019 and realized that I’ve been sleeping on some serious talent. From the straight-up Milwaukee slap of Spanish Rice to the polished-up slap of Lil Chicken’s latest release Billy. But 54 Baby Trey transcends the slap and I could see him having a promising career once he finally drops an album or mixtape. (Meanwhile download my unofficial 54 Baby ‘The Mixtape’ here.)
While on the topic of Wisconsin rap, I have to shout out Nathen Peni’s “Iceberg,” which is Green Bay’s greatest rap song since C.W.A.’s “Where The Hell Is Neenah.” Hoping he comes up with a better rap name in 2020, though.

10 songs that defined my decade roadtrip
Tumblr media
2010 Onra – Rock On
At the beginning of the decade, talented young producers were taking over the world with their MPCs and a fresh new approach to beatmaking. Onra being on of them, with an especially groovy and hyper-addictive touch. Rock On is only 1.36 min long, but it could as well last forever.
2011 Light Asylum – Dark Allies
Although released in 2010, Dark Allies became a huge goth club dance floor hit in 2011. Shannon Funchess‘ incredible vocal performance makes up for a far less brilliant production and that annoying hihat pattern.
2012 Gotye – Somebody I Used To Know
You just couldn’t escape that one, it was all over the place. Gotye was probably the last home producer/indie act to ever top the charts globally and this is his best song.
2013 Daft Punk – Beyond/Motherboard
Much has been written about Daft Punks epic 2013 release. Though not introducing a lot particularly new ideas musically, the way the whole album is woven together is remarkable and the production is just outstanding. It will be a future mixing and mastering reference, much like Grace Jones’ Nightclubbing. Having said that, Beyond/Motherboard also features the most haunting and beautiful synthesizer loop of the decade.
2014 DJ Snake & Lil‘ Jon – Turn Down For What
Simply the last massive party track before trap and half-time nubs took over.
2015 Years and Years – King
Super cheesy and super catchy. And the only Years and Years tune in which their cheesiness is not annoying. If you crave even more cheese, go see them live.
2016 Parcels – Gamesofluck
When I first heard Parcels in a retail store in Nice, it felt like a relief. Classy and fresh, well crafted music performed on actual instruments instead of plugins. Gamesofluck kind of changed my life — at least for a year or so, until I got slightly annoyed by their Instagram presence. I also went to see them live a couple of times including their NYC show. Apart from their sometimes repetitive live gimmicks, they ARE all blessed musicians and a fun live band.
2017 Goldfrapp – Everything is Never enough
Effusive music for lovers, simply.
2018 The Carters – Apeshit
I’m a sucker for catchy pop tunes and this one is totally addictive. The production and synth work makes at least 70 % of it and most people don’t even realize. It’s just f***** brilliant.
2019 Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Hunnybee
Reminds me of those breezy summer days while dealing with winter insufficiencies.

Merafong Amapiano wave: EPs to look out for
By
Morena Rex Maboe
Instagram and Twitter
@Ujesuweradio
Tumblr media
It goes without saying that one of the most sought out after music genres in the republic right now is Amapiano, a new age Kwaito reincarnation of piano and keys, resting its genius on log drums, dramatic mid song pauses, only to return with mad Kicks and baselines, Amapiano is sure to have you mopping the dance floor with sweat.
Owing its emergence from capital city of Pretoria, the genre has gained prominence throughout South Africa and the world. The lockdown has seen the release of Kabza de Small's chart topping"King of Amapiano" album and joint projects with DJ Maphorisa in Scorpion 1 and 2. At the top of the South African Amapiano throne Kabza and DJ Maphorisa share the throne with the likes of JazziDisciples, Vigro Deep, Gaba Cannal, Tumza D'kota and Seme Tee to name but a few.
But I digress, and narrow the scope to the Merafong City throne, and put the microscope on local talent that should, by no means not go unnoticed.
1. Distance TRK - Amaphupho
Tumblr media
Multi-talented producer, singer and songwriter real name Sphamandla Collen Shabalala is a force to reckon with, he refuses to be boxed in any particular genre, he is a all round music artist.
His amapiano track Amaphupho is an absolute fire tune, featuring Brutus pablo on vocals, mixed and Mastered by Kamster SA, it is sure to inspire you and have your ankle tapping, all the while representing Wedela brilliantly. Sitting comfortably on spot number 3 on DJ Sbu's top 10 on radio station Massiv Metro, the song is one of the best to come out of the ville.
His first EP titled "Khuzwayo" was released in 2017 and sold 100 copies in Carletonville. He was nominated under the "New House Artist" category at the Mzansi Kwaito and house Awards (MKHMA) 2019 with the song "Lethukukhanya". Distance is a true genius, not to mention talented.
2. Queller dupour- Bass & 3D logs
Young producer prodigy & vocalist Queller du pour is becoming a household name among Amapiano lovers in Merafong City, his talent is unmatched and he is a true hard worker. His signature one string pull footprint can be traced in other people's work including Amapiano Chronicles and Broken Elements, both whom, feature in this article.
Queller's EP offering "Bass and 3D Logs" is brewing with world class production as far as amapiano is concerned. From the Amapiano remix of "Tigi" a song by Swati Afropop singer Sands, to "Yena" and "Jaiva Yoyo" both the latter tracks feature Amapiano Chronicles, Queller is brilliant and the work ethic shows. 3. Broken Elements- Induku EP
House duo Broken Elements bring a unique distinctive sound to the music scene of Merafong City. Their touch of percussions is literally music to the ears, and is sure to have any Yanos heads doing the pouncing cat.
The EP features cream of the crop vocalists from Merafong, boosting artists such as Mozaique and Kgadi Salane. The EP is ripe with production influences from the likes of BafoDeDeejay and the 3D log boss himself Queller,it couldn't go wrong. From the track Beautiful Butterflies and Mdantso the EP is a banger.
4. Tribal Souls - Goddess EP
Amongst their catalogue, the duo dropped singles "Unleash the King" and "Sounds of the deep", both attesting to their work ethic. Their latest EP "Goddess" drops on the 8th of August.
Whoever says Deep house and tekno influences cannot be fused with amapiano has not looked the direction of ext 3 Khutsong. Tribal souls was formed in 2017 and has been growing since, they categorise their sound as "a combination of deep house and amapiano"
5. Amapiano Chronicles- KhutsongVille EP
Probably the most decorated duo on the list, appearing to have the most following and most relevant in the streets, they boost tracks such as "Kwa Maselwane", the buzzing "Iziyobisi" track and "Mosquito bite" just to name a few. Siyabonga Nkululeko Ndzuzo stage name - Siiyadadeep and Kamogelo Lebethe stage name - Jnr Chronicle are causing serious waves. This is the most anticipated EP as far as amapiano goes in the Ville.
It would be utter disrespect however, not to mention Reason de Friend who has collaborated with the duo on some tracks, and has projects of his own as well, him and Queller has had a influence on this particular sound. All the Yano heads are waiting in nostalgic anticipation for the KhutsongVille EP.
6. Kamster SA - NewBeginnings Ep
Hailing from Carletonville, Wedela House producer Kamster SA real name Kamohelo Monesi, holds no punches back with his upbeat Percussions production. Kamster has been fiddling with afro-house production from as early as 2010, now at the tender age of 21 his sound is ripe with cords to make the soul chant. Already having dropped his single "Umcimbi" his EP is set to drop on the 24th of July, Friday. Definitely cannot wait for the project.
Umcimbi is a hit, best believe.
