Thanksgiving Incoming
The #tooyumtopause crew has been on a bit of a hiatus largely due to separate travels and the destruction of my phone (camera) via toilet. But this week is Thanksgiving! One of the culinary holy days in my opinion. M & me & friends are organizing a Freinds-giving this year as we are all far from our traditional Thanksgiving tables. The recipe searching has led to a lot of link-sharing, both within the thanksgiving crew and from my parents. It’s interesting to see what ingredients are important in different thanksgiving traditions. For me, it’s cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. In terms of components, pie is a must. One of my favorite parts of the Thanksgiving season has always been eating pie for breakfast and turkey for lunch in the days after.

Spent this #brunchelona at Caravelle restaurant in the old city. Loved the mantra on the wall and my dish of choice: pulled pork on tostada with poached eggs. The pulled pork was amazing, and I have proper North Carolina standards. ^j

M here to add a lil #historicalreality to the previous post. Exhibit A shows J brandishing the flame thrower to caramelize the sugar atop the aforementioned crema catalana. You can see the wild look in her eyes as she burns the dessert to a perfectly golden brown crisp that was in fact #tooyumtopause. #itwasjaclyn #inthekitchen #withtheflamethrower

M & I went to a cooking class last night with our program at Cook&Taste Barcelona and it was to die for. One of our many creations, (this was my personal project) Crema Catalana: custard with lemon and cinnamon coated in crystallized sugar. Widely considered (by Spaniards) the origins of Creme Brûlée. Considered (by us) #tooyumtopause

#Brunchelona continues with Avenue Bar. I genuinely ate more here than I think I have ever eaten in one sitting and still haven’t fully recovered. SO worth it. Top to bottom: Huevos Benedictos, Morning Bagel (who knew scrambled eggs and cream cheese and bacon were the perfect combo?), Chocolate chip pancakes, and the Big Papa burrito (look at that aguacate). American as can be, but delicious. Pro-Tip: Bottomless Mimosas.

La Mercé was a #tooyumtopause palooza. LOOK AT THIS Pad Thai. Spoiler alert: It was delicious. And from a tiny, tiny food truck.

A La Mercé late night wandering took us to Pizza Circus in El Raval. One of these slices is not like the other. #halfeatenfood #halfeatengiantfood #foggycamera

This Ginger Pork Belly sandwich was so good, it deserves a close-up. Also a shout-out to Caravan Made, the amazing and beautifully efficient (also, like, beautiful) food truck from which it came.
