At the Works Station, Henry had left the VIP's and their coach, to run into a siding to take on water.
"Hello, what's that?" Henry mused.
"Good grief!" He gasped, a second later. "Is that James?!"
The signalmen were as surprised as Henry. The branch line train had only just left, and they had not reset the junction points…

Thursday 24th October 2024
We said a find goodbye to our little apartment in Darwin this morning. It has been a great place and we took a last look at the sea. We will not see it again until we hit the east coast in 25th November.
Before leaving the confines of the city we tootled along to the Fannie Bay Gaol that we failed to get into the other day. The first gaol was built by the British in 1869 in Darwin itself, not far from our apartment, but due to some NIMBY type attitude and as a consequence they decided to build a replacement a little way out of town. Which brings us to Fannie Bay. The first stone building was erected in 1883; proper job with thick walls, ideal for keeping prisoners safely behind bars. We saw the additions through the years utilising more modern construction with corrugated iron of course. We saw the gallows that despatched the last two felons in 1952. A sad case where two young lads from Czechoslovakia killed a taxi driver because they needed a car to get out of town. The prison housed both men and women, and sadly the majority would have been Aborigines. The buildings barely survived the 1974 cyclone and were finally closed in 1979 when a replacement was built in Berrimah. We were told that of the thousand or so prisoners there today, some 90% or more are aborigines. We saw some of the reception documents which showed men sentenced for 3 months for drinking methylated spirits.
Well we had to put a shift on after such a gruesome morning. Pausing briefly to be swooped on just outside the prison walls by nesting plovers, we fired up this enormous Ford and pointed it in the direction of Kakadu along the ruler straight roads lined either side by low green bush as far as the eye could see, through the outback, with the sun beating down shimmering the road with temperatures exceeding 38 degrees. A brief stop to eat our meagre repast we called luncheon in a desperate roadhouse midway on our 300km journey. A large single building housing a cafe, bar and rudimental store; 2 petrol pumps outside exposed to the elements, random picnic tables with a few white people huddled and quite a large contingent of aboriginals aimlessly wandering around. The sun baked down; hotter inland without that cooling sea breeze and we too huddled in the shade, departing quickly after ejecting the opportunistic flies that got into the car with us.
Our new digs are deep inside the Kakadu National Park for which you need to purchase a permit to enter. They cannot be described as luxurious as the last, but they are comfortable; with the aircon working full out it could blow your hat off but we should stay cool enough tonight.
Tomorrow we shall decide which tours to go on in this interesting region.

Name: Todd "Tootles" Darling Age: 25 Height: 6'0 Pronouns: He/Him Sexuality: Straight Occupation: Firefighter Zodiac: Capricorn sun, Cancer moon, Taurus rising Faceclaim: Emilio Sakraya
Description
Tootles doesn't remember anything about his life before the orphanage, and he figures that it's probably better that way. For the longest time, the boy hardly spoke at all. He kept to himself and feared opening up to others, at least until he met Peter Pan. Peter came around out of nowhere and was the first person to get the small boy to open up. From there, they formed a group of lost boys that were their own little family, and Peter eventually convinced the boys to leave the orphanage and live amongst themselves. Tootles idolized Peter for the longest time, for he was the brave friend that got him out of his shell! He told all kinds of stories of his bravery and made it so easy for the boys to follow his lead. It wasn't until the boys met the Darlings and got the chance to be adopted that Tootles began to see through Peter. Toootles is the only one of the boys who remembers Peter telling them why he refused to be adopted — his future immortality. No one ever talked about it again after that, but Tootles holds that memory close to his chest; he was never really able to see Peter the same after that.
Tootles learned a lot about responsibility and maturity after they were adopted into the Darling family. Once the boys were older and all agreed to get an apartment together, Tootles seemed to step up as the father-figure of the bunch. Peter was still their leader of course, always the one with the ideas and the exciting stories to entertain everyone, but Tootles always handled the responsibilities and kept the ship afloat. Especially with Peter's frequency to disappear and ignore the important things in the real-world, Tootles is the one to keep things running when he can't be found. He often misses out on a lot of fun and adventures because of this, but he's always been so quiet and never complained. Now that he knows that Peter isn't aging anymore and is starting to act more like an irresponsible idiot though, Tootles is beginning to get fed up, especially as he's seeing how Peter's actions are impacting the rest of their friends.
Headcanons
Tootles was always the shortest of the boys until his growth spurt in late middle school. Him and Peter are now the tallest of the group
He was the first of the lost boys to get his drivers license, so for awhile he was basically the designated taxi driver for everyone. His first car was a beat up old mini van that he got for dirt cheap with money he saved from the bakery, but he eventually upgraded after high school. The mini van has sentimental value to the boys though, so it still remains parked at the apartment complex. It hardly runs but it's part of the family
Still the most quiet of the bunch, but the most observant.
He's had a fat crush on Tink since they first met her. Because he was always quiet anyway no one really questioned it for awhile, and Tootles was able to keep it to himself and not get between Tink and Peter. Once the boys and Tink moved in together though, it's been much harder to hide his feelings. No one really talks about it, but the boys aren't stupid — it's obvious that Tootles has feelings for her
Firefighting has made it harder for Tootles to be around a lot at home, especially when he was in training. Cubby sort of stepped in as the responsible one when Tootles needed help, and that still remains today. However, Tootles knows that Cubby and Slightly have plans to get their own place soon, so he's aware that things could be changing in the near future for the household.

The Austin FX4 is a hackney carriage (taxicab) that was produced from 1958 until 1997. It was sold by Austin from 1958 until 1982. Only 75,000 cars were ever built and few exist in the US. The Austin FX4 cab tootled around London, England as the successor to the Austin FX3, which in its day, was London's most widely used taxi. Most taxis were fitted with the Austin diesel engine, though a rare few had the gasoline 2.2L engine. The FX4 was the first taxi in London to have four doors. The first model of FX4 was fitted with a 2178 cc Austin diesel engine and a Borg-Warner automatic transmission. In 1961, the manual transmission from the Austin Gipsy was added as an option. From 1962, the Austin 2199 cc petrol engine was available. However, almost all FX4 taxis were fitted with a Diesel engine. The original Austin design had a small rear light cluster and roof-mounted turn indicators (commonly known as "bunny ears"). On the revised model, the rear wings were modified to accept the taillights and turn indicators from the MkII Austin 1100/1300. Front indicators were also provided below the headlights and repeater indicators fitted to the front wings and "bunny ears" were abandoned. This pack for Daz Studio contains an Austin FX4 Taxi 1964 with lights and textures included.Let your imagination run wild and create wonderful scenarios with this stuff. Chapter 2: THE CRAZIEST JOB RECRUITMENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! (12/28/22)
(DISCLAIMER: Some or all of the events detailed below may be falsified, fantasized, fictional, or just straight up untrue)
So today was just a little bonkers. First thing is, I met with my buddy Rico again. He told me about a few of the starter options for "legal" jobs in the city. They all seemed a little boring, but Rico refused to tell me about any of the other types of jobs (his loss lol). So, he told me how to do taxi work, then we went to a nearby parking lot where we met some people who work for another taxi company. Well, I was getting quite bored at this point, and there was a guy who looked interesting, so I hopped into the car with him. His name is Sandy. When I asked him what he was doing, he said "nothing," but he clearly had a destination in mind when he was driving?? But then the CRAZIEST SHIT happened!!! Because his car broke down!! ON THE FREEWAY!!! So he called those same taxi people we were talking to earlier, and this really cool lady named Ed picked us up. She took us to this parking garage, because apparently Sandy hadn't paid the company for his taxi ride, and now he owes them his life?? So I just sort of came as backup to protect my friend Sandy, and also because I had nothing better to do, and I was curious what would happen. So one of the big guys pulled Sandy to the side, and then ED PULLED ME TO THE SIDE!! AND SHE INVITED ME TO WORK FOR HER TOTALLY LEGITIMATE TAXI BUSINESS!!! OMG!!! So I said absolutely, it seems like fun, and a good way to meet people, and then as I was entering her contact information into my phone, I SUDDENLY TRIPPED AND FELL OFF THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING!! OMG IT HURT SO BAD!!! ED IMMIDIATLEY TOOK ME TO THE HOSPIITAL AND MIRACULOUSLY MY ONLY INJURY WAS A BROKEN ARM!! LIKE OMG WHAT, I JUST FELL LIKE 5 STORIES!!! But I'm totally fine now!! And I'm sure I'll have much more crazy adventures!!! That's all for today, so bye for now! As always, make sure to follow my twitter for hourly updates on my life! Tootles!!!

English Rose - A Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw Story.
Emily Walker was impulsive.
So impulsive that she had bought a one way ticket two days previously and had ended up halfway around the world.
Impulse, she would tell everyone, which it was. But it was also the only way she was ever going to free herself from the life she had been living in.
See, Emily’s life wasn’t all bad, she had friends, a good job and money, however all that paled into insignificance when you took her mother into account. She was an alcoholic. Always had been for as long as Emily could recall, however, the past two years had been a living hell. Alcohol had turned her mother into a very abusive woman and Emily couldn’t take anymore of it.
That’s how we end up here, in California. No plan, no job, no anything. Just Emily and her suitcase.
Peace, she thought as she wheeled her suitcase from the airport, there was no one here to shout at her, she wouldn’t need to tread on eggshells, no one would hurt her (she hoped). Peace.
She tentatively started walking towards the row of taxis standing outside the arrivals area of the airport, still unsure of where to go but happy to be away from the drudge that was her former life.
“Excuse me?” She said nervously to one of the drivers,
“How can I help you, doll?”
“I was wondering do I have to book for a ride or can I just get in?”
“You can just hop right in, here, let me get that case for you”. Getting out of the taxi, the driver took Emily’s case and put in the boot of the car (that’s trunk to all you Americans out there). “Where is it you want taking?”
“That’s the thing, you see I’m not sure… I’ve got no plan really, I just had to get away.” Emily paused and took a deep breath, “is there anywhere you would suggest?”
“I could take you down to Miramar, that’s a nice area. Some good rentals and places to explore, if you’d like that is”
“Um yeah, sure. Thank you”
Emily got in the taxi and they set off for Miramar, she’d never heard of it but the driver, who was called Tony, told her all of these really good fighter pilots trained there and that it was a super friendly place to live. Tony dropped her off at a shop in the town area and gave some pointers for looking for a place to stay, said she wouldn’t have trouble if she spoke to a woman named Martha in the diner as she knows everyone’s business apparently.
Tony got Emily’s case from the car and she paid him and said goodbye, heading off determinedly to the diner to speak to this Martha about sorting somewhere to stay.
This place was so lovely, very American and just what she’d dreamed of when she’d concocted her plan to escape. She didn’t have to walk far before she encountered the diner, the smell of the food emanating from it was making her stomach rumble.
Walking into the diner it was exactly like in the films she’d seen and she saw a little oldish lady behind the counter who she assumed was the Martha that Tony had told her about.
“Excuse me, are you Martha by any chance?” Emily asked, smiling at the woman, but you could hear the nerves in her voice.
“I am sweetie, and you don’t sound like you’re from round here, what can I do for you hun?”
“I was wondering if you could help me”, Emily shuffled on her feet, clearing her throat as she spoke again, “I’m new here, obviously, flew in today and I don’t have anywhere to stay. The taxi driver who brought me here said you may be able to help me, I’m looking for a room somewhere if you know of anything”
“Ahh hunny, I’ll be more than happy to help, as it happens I know a friend of mine is looking for someone to rent a room in her house, why don’t I give her a call for you and see what we can do?”
“That would be amazing, perfect even!”
“I’ll get right on it, in the meantime, do you want something to eat while we wait?”
“Erm, yes please, I’m starving!”
“I’ll fix you something real nice darling, what’s your name by the way?” Martha beamed at her.
“Emily, Emily Walker”
“Well Emily Walker, welcome to America!”
Martha tootled off into the kitchen, Emily could hear pots and pans clanging and Martha on the phone to someone, she sat blissfully taking in her surroundings. She decided after five minutes to look at her phone, something she hadn’t done in about 24 hours, not long after she decided to tell her friends she was leaving the country indefinitely.
Facebook Messenger - 15 unread messages
17 Missed Calls
5 Voice Mail Messages
Oh fuck.
Hayley Thompson – Did you get there alright?
Emily?
I miss you
Gary Walker – Emily, what the fuck. You cannot just disappear, what the hell were you even thinking.
Countless other messages she couldn’t be bothered to read, Hayley was her best friend and Gary was her Uncle. They are the only two that matter. Time to check the missed calls, all from her Mum, and all the voice mails the same. She wasn’t going to listen to them, she knew what they’d say. A torrent of abuse no doubt.
Footsteps interrupted her thoughts as Martha came scurrying over, a plate full of food in her hand.
“Here you go darling, get that down you, the lady about the room is going to come and see you, should be here in 10 minutes”.
“Ah thank you so much, Martha!” Though Martha couldn’t really make out this is what Emily had said as she was too busy piling food into her mouth to speak really. “This is delicious”.
Martha smiled and walked away, leaving Emily to eat her food in peace, must be hard she thought, coming to a completely new country with nothing but a suitcase, no plan or anything. She’ll be fine here, the people will look after her for sure.
The door to the diner opened just as Emily was finishing up her plate. Emily looked round on the stool and in front of her was the prettiest woman she thought she’d ever seen.
“Hi, I’m Penny Benjamin. Martha said about you needing a place to stay?”
“Hi, I do yes, I’m Emily Walker”
“And where are you from girl, not round here I’ll say!”
“I’m from England, a small little town in the North East to be specific”
“Well Emily Walker from a small little town in North East England, how would you like to come and live in my spare room? It’s just me and my daughter Amelia, so you’d fit right in I’d say”
“If you’ll have me, I’d love to!”
“Fabulous, well we can sort out rent and bills tomorrow, we can have a proper chat, but from what Martha told me on the phone, you’ll be wanting to sleep more than anything right now”.
“I am rather tired, I can’t lie”, just as she said this Emily let out the most gigantic yawn, Penny laughed, as did Martha who had emerged from the kitchen and enveloped Penny into a warm hug.
“You all sorted then?”
“Yeah, Emily here is going to come home with me, we’ll sort out the fine print in the morning, this girl is dead on her feet” Penny giggled as she helped Emily with her case.
“Um, how much do I owe you Martha?”
“Oh it’s nothing sweetie, call it a welcome present, I have a feeling I’ll be seeing a lot of you from now on” she smiled, a very warm smile Emily thought, “oh honey I forgot to ask you, how old are you?”
“Oh, I’m 25, just turned”
“She’s but a child Penny, needs some looking after I think”
“I’ll see to it, Martha, we’ll see you around”.
With that you turned on your heel to leave, Penny guided you to a rather flash looking car, though her knowledge of vehicles did not stretch far. She couldn’t believe her luck, coming to America on a whim and landing a place to stay with what appeared to be one of the nicest people she’d met. She hoped the rest of her journey would be just as smooth.
Impulsiveness, something Emily was now very glad she had.

LOTR WWI au?
- Four village boys from rural England - Sam the farmer and Merry the prankster and Pip the local squire's son and Frodo, who won the scholarship to the local public school and was thought a bit odd by the rest, a bit of a dreamer. with his head always in a book, speaking in tongues that hadn't been heard in this part of England for centuries.
- Is there magic here, in the spires of the university? Can they be real, the men and women who live in these halls and corridors, with their long black robes and sharp, searching eyes, who know arcane and wonderful things? His uncle spoke wonderously of this place once, wishing he could have been among its sages and scholars. Frodo watches them with longing in his eyes, wishing he could join them and knowing, as he sits in his uniform that does not fit in a chair that makes him feel like a child, that he cannot. What does his uncle possess that these learned men want so badly to see?
- The miner speaks at length of the great tin and copper and coal faces in Cornwall and Wales, and how the men who built those turned their hands to the saps of Messines, the great subterranean chambers of the Somme. "And they call that a mine!" he crows. "This is blue Flanders clay." They crawl on, wet and dirty and scared, not caring what color it is, and wish for the sun again, afraid of what is lurking in the dark under the earth.
- The front line moves and changes like the bank of a river - one day they are prisoners, and the next they are free. The battalion that takes Merry and Pip in are from the Dominions, bright-eyed men from the high mountains and the grassy fields who speak in strange accents about thier homeland far away, the women just as fierce and independent as the men. Where is the horse and the rider, they ask, where is the horn that was blowing? But Pip and Merry know that this is not a war for horses.
- Pip has never seen The City before, with its alabaster arches and tootling taxis going to and fro. So much sound and noise - so many signs saying that this is a place at war. "Tell me of my son's death," the Minister asks from his dark, closed study, and Pip remembers gas and Very lights, and the Captain charging on ahead into the darkness, sword in his hand, slashing at the soldiers who could not seem to shoot him down. The enemy took Pip and Merry, but left the Captain's body in the mud. Pip looks at the solemn ancestors on the wall in red-coated splendor, hands around their flags and swords and shields. "He died with honor," he replies, and hopes it is enough.

Fuerteventura. Sun, sea & sand. Pt 2.
Written by Rosie
If staying in one place isn’t for you there are plenty of car hire places around Caleta, but it’s worth noting that some can come with hidden fees. Asking a receptionist at a hotel, for example, can be handy as they have local knowledge of the better (and cheaper) companies to hire from. One car hire for a full 24 hours cost me a mere £30 and I was asked to return the Vauxhall Corsa with the same amount of fuel that I had received it with. But I was told I could go anywhere on the island except for Cofete. More on this later...
Puerto Del Rosario is north of the airport and an easy drive to reach. As Fuertaventura’s capital it can be very busy and not many tourists can be seen in the centre compared to other towns. A number of chain shops, food outlets and unique to the island places can be a great location to pick up some more interesting souvenirs and the bonus is that parking around the island is completely free, so there is no rush to hurry your shopping!
Hiring a different car we decide to upgrade to a 4x4 (with some unfortunate hidden fees as we had booked online). Happily, we were given not the SUV that was advertised, but a Mitsubishi Outlander which had a little more off-road capability. Deciding one day to take a tour of the island, we started off by heading south.
Taking a detour from Casillas De Morales to Tiscamanita I tired some off-roading which was actually more of a real road as most of the tarmac roads are relatively new due to the tourist trade. It’s worth remembering that some hire companies don’t cover driving off tarmac roads, so its always worth asking before you go. The local roads tend to be little more than a trail in the dust and we followed one rocky road that would lead us past some inactive volcanoes. It was at this point I found that my travelling companions didn’t like being away from the tarmac which caused some upset. Whoops! But the views were worth it.
It needs to be noted that such roads can be very rough to drive over, and unless you are a driver that has done such driving in the past, has lots of experience and is a confident diver, these roads are not recommended as getting stuck in a hire car can probably land you with a big fine from the rental company!
Finally crawling our way up the last slope we reached tarmac (which left my travel companions relived) and we head through Tuinje, past Tarajelejo and the Oasis Wildlife Zoo at La Lajita and through Costa Calma. Costa Calma is another popular tourist town, but the drive from the airport directly down the highway can be quite long and the locals can be quite speedy trying to avoid the tourists which can lead to some hairy moments! A transfer coach or taxi is definitely recommended if you don’t want to drive on holiday.
Sadly we didn’t stop at Jandia on our journey around the island as I had been told that Jandia has some of the best natural beaches around the island and that Playa de Sotavento de Jandia is very popular.
Driving past a few more towns we finally hit Morro Jable and parked up, stretching our legs and taking a little walk around. Talking only a brief walk to the beach at Punta del Matorral O de Morro Jable we found a few windsurfers but as the wind was good for them, it kicked sand up from the beach so it wasn’t long before we returned to the car. Carefully following both the road and the sat-nav, we finally found the sign we had been looking for just off the FV-2 highway. Cofete. This car hire company had said nothing about the mysterious place, so we thought we’d give it a shot.
Oh my. The tarmac road quickly gave way to more loose rocks, the kind you find lining railways. The car slid on corners and some locals, or those braver than I, overtook us and tootled along at a happy 25+ mph. If I recall, we stuck at about 15mph to be on the safe side and occasionally slowed to 5mph on some of the sharper turns. The views of the sea on our left were almost unreal. A deep blue sparkled as far as the eye could see and the air con in the car was most welcomed as the sun blazed down on our car. Reaching a junction there were two options, continue west to pass Puerto de la Cruz and reach the tip of the island where sits nothing but a lighthouse and unspoilt views, or turn north toward Cofete. We went north. A steady ride and a snake of a road twisted up the mounts with few barriers continued until we reached the mountain pass at Punto de Vista sobre Puerto de Montaña and I decided to take a quick selfie. I wasn’t expecting the monstrous winds that whipped fiercely through the pass though! I could barely stand at the little car park and my friends laughed as they sat comfortably in the car. The views over the North Atlantic from the towering mountains may have been impressive but they were just as nice to experience through the car window.
If I thought the drive to that point was awkward, I was in for a shock. With the mountains on one side and steep cliffs to the other, I hugged to the mountain wall on my right and dared not to glance at the severe drop just feet away from the car. Oncoming traffic in the distance was easily seen snaking its way around the road and several times we stopped and waited for them to pass us. I dread to think of trying to squeeze past one another on a more narrow stretch or worse having to reverse to a safer spot. Finally levelling out we arrived in Cofete. A shanty town filled with locals relying on their own little community rather than driving into the town and cities constantly.
There is one small cafe in the village that takes cash only and I presume they have toilets but I cannot be certain as we didn’t visit the cafe. Instead, we had packed a small picnic to take with us as we were unsure about finding somewhere to eat, and luckily we have strong bladders!
Parking up by the beach we grabbed our belongings and headed for the water but one small curiosity caught my eye. A cemetery on the beach! (Pictured below) Cementerio del Cofete is mostly hidden under small sand dunes but its a small, quiet place nonetheless.
If you are not driving, there is also a fairly frequent bus that runs from Morro Jable to Cofete and stops at the car park near the cemetery. There was also a regular 4x4 convoy of white Land Rovers that accessed the village and I believe they are part of a tourist day trip. So it’s worth keeping an eye out for that!
The beach itself spans for miles and slips away from the mountains into the North Atlantic. It's certainly not a spot for swimmers as the waves unbuffered can be quite large and strong. Paddling in the shallows as the water laps the beach is welcomed enough and the beach is a perfect place for sunbathing provided you have good sunscreen applied. Being such a difficult place to arrive at, we found the beach had barely anybody on it and we sat alone for hours enjoying the sun and sea. With the beach facing out to the west, I can only imagine watching the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean, but the thought of driving back to Morro Jable along the Cofete road at night is not for the faint-hearted.
A little history lesson: Villa Winter (pictured in the distance in the photo below) sits on the mountain slopes above Cofete and was built by a German engineer during WW2 and some of the 'roads’ around Cofete were laid then too. Some conspiracy theories state that with Fuertaventura being so close to both the African coast and Spain, it made a prime spot for Nazi boats and that the engineer responsible for the building was a sympathiser. It is easy enough to walk or drive to the villa, but as we were unsure if it was a residence we decided to politely keep our distance.
Returning back from the beach we had unfortunately found the mid-day sun to have baked the sand and we ended up doing some peculiar towel-hopping and running across the beach as we had left our shoes in the car! The drive back along the mountain road was no different and with the sharp drop now on ‘my side’ of the road, I had opted again to wait at a few passing places and have the more experienced bus drivers and excursion groups pass me than trying to slip past one another in tighter spots. Finally reaching beautiful smooth tarmac one more, we took the scenic route back to our apartment turning north at Costa Calma through La Pared and along the FV-605.
Here I would also like to mention a very worthy place to visit via car. Among the mountains on the FV-605 road itself as it meets the FV-618 you will find at a small lay-by. Parking here you can hike the steady climb up the mountain top to Mirador Astronónomico, a natural observatory! In the day it offers wonderful views over the sun-baked mountains and at night you can read star maps etched into the stone-work and on information boards. It’s an easy enough place to reach on foot but trainers or other footwear (not flip-flops and sandals) are recommended. Eagerly studying the weather I found a night where no clouds were in the sky and one friend and I (the other opted to stay behind) drove at midnight to the observatory. Sadly the weather is a fickle thing and we saw nothing aside from clouds sailing through the darkness. Next visit to the island we will try again!
Continuing on past Pájara, Tuineje again and on the highway this time to Tiscamanita we stopped eventually at Antigua and took a walk around. Wanting to see a typical Spanish church we tired the doors of Iglesia de Nuestra Señora but found them locked and realised that it was siesta time. Grabbing a quick Spanish style lunch at one of the few open bars (sadly I can’t recall which) we then headed back down the FV-413 to Caleta De Fuste. An avid traveller could drive the entire island in a day, but to take in all the sights would be a very hasty stop at each location.
Another day we deiced to take the road north to Corralejo which we found more of a cooler climate than the south of the island. Coming up the FV-1A highway we passed through Paque Natural de Corralejo, the natural sand dunes. While being an extremely scenic spot and convenient to pull over at the roadside for some snaps, it seemed all the other tourists had the same idea and hordes of people stood around taking group photos, selfies and photos of the sand dunes themselves. We didn’t stop.
Most of the Corralejo is centred around the docks and there are lots of places to eat and shop. My favourite being Cebra Culture located at The Bell Tower, Local 44, 35660, which is filled with some beautiful bohemian pieces of clothing and accessories. They also have a shop in Puerto del Rosario. Walking the streets and taking in the local culture we hopped back in the car and drove past a spectacular sight: Volcano Bayuyo. We put it to a vote if we should take the half-hour to one hour climb to the top but we decided that we were too exhausted from that days antics and we would try it another time.
All in all, Fuerteventura is a wonderful island, with plenty of beaches and things to do all year round, fantastic scenery and it features lots of great nightlife and a friendly atmosphere as well.
------
Pros: The island is an UNESCO nature reserve, constant pleasant winds that cool the air, lots of beaches, great scenery, plenty to do.
Cons: Can get very quickly sunburnt without realising, can get very busy with tourists, not a lot of easily sign-posted public transport, hardly any English speakers outside the main tourist areas.
