What’s in a name?
@toomcnairtocare
Daisy tossed the paperback book at Walden, smirking at her own aim as it thumped into his side. She knew it wouldn’t hurt, but it should get his attention. Plus, if he realized what it was she’d been reading, Daisy imagined she’d have his attention pretty quickly.
“Lilah,” she said, shifting out of her chair to curl up on the bed next to him. “It means night, which- Okay, it’s not the most hopeful of messages, but it feels accurate to now. Or...” Daisy lifted a hand to run it along his bicep absently. She didn’t see him most of the week, so it was nice to remind herself he was really here. “If that’s too similar to Delilah, perhaps Aurora? We could go in the opposite meaning direction.” Daisy tilted her head, loose hair spilling over her shoulder onto the bed in a curtain as she looked at her husband. “What about you? Any ideas for a girl? We’ll talk about a boy next, so be patient on that one.”

“You certainly sound concerned for someone that isn’t dating him,” Cas remarked idly, not having failed to notice the way all the questions seemed to go back to one subject: Mirek. As far as Cas could tell, Walden MacNair may have been a murderer, but he was also short and cute and apparently protective over his exes. How ridiculous.
“But I’ve heard you’re married now, so I’m sure it’s not jealousy.” It probably wasn’t wise to rile up a man with an ax and Cas knew he should watch his mouth, but instead all he did with it was smile. “But I’m sure you could find out all of this from him, so maybe you’re just curious about me. In which case, I’m flattered.” @toomcnairtocare

Bird Bois
“Bring forth the wing’ed angels of death,” Henry declared, throwing his arms out wide as he faced the closed doors of the McNair aviary. He’d reluctantly left Ivan with Daisy’s pigeons, who were significantly less likely to attempt to eat him, and he’d already cast several shield and repelling charms around himself. The last thing he wanted to do was get droppings or dust on his brand-new crop-top or the pastel pink combat boots he’d worn specifically for this occasion.
Still holding his arms up dramatically, he glanced to the side and grinned at Walden. He was riding an unusual high- no, it isn’t the cocaine, he snarked at an inner voice that sounded suspiciously like Emmeline- and the chance to meet Walden’s famous birds only further elevated his mood.
“You’ve no idea how excited I am to see you in your element,” he said. “Your not-murder element, I mean.”

☎️ Walden
(To)
“You’re a bloody nuisance.”
“I do mean that. You get bored, so you call me to go help amuse you. I’ve never so wished Bas wasn’t arrested to keep you entertained.”
“Yeah, fuck you too.”
“Fine. I’ll be there in ten.”

Things between Edith and Miriam didn’t seem like they were going to get all that much better miraculously. Not any time soon, anyway. They had fought again at the ceilidh, and sort of made up, but not really, and it had all been a confusing whirlwind of emotions that Edith had never anticipated they would come to face. It had always seemed to be them against the world, and now, they were on opposite sides, screaming at one another to join them while simultaneously pushing the other away. She felt very much like they were two magnets of the same polarity, wanting to attract once more, though you cannot force the connection.
The bright news was that her relationship with Valerija was progressing nicely, and they were being more open and forward about their feelings for one another. Considering neither girl wanted to rush things, they were figuring things out, slowly but surely, and testing the waters of this potential new relationship. It was nice, regardless, to have someone who she could talk to about her problems with Miriam.
Edith had promised Valerija that she would go out and pick up some fertilizer for the plants as well as a few other things they had been meaning to get while she was at work. Since Edith herself didn’t have a proper job at the moment, it only seemed fair that she would go out and do most of the shopping then, to compensate. Though really, she didn’t mind it at all. While browsing one of the shops, Edith could sense someone’s domineering presence over her, and though at first she tried to ignore it, it became increasingly difficult to do so.
Turning to see a man not too far from her, Edith rose a brow, instantly uneasy. “Can I help you?”

Let’s Talk Danger
Bailey’s insides ached and the slow-healing scars under bandages pulled every time she moved, but that wasn’t going to stop her. She’d literally spent the past month asleep. Thinking about the lost time was driving her crazy.
She was lounging on a bench in Diagon Alley, her tank top and cargo pants exposing the bandages creeping around her neck and over her shoulder, her usual dragon scars on display since her hair was pulled back. She was pretty sure she looked even more “chewed up and spit out” than normal, but she quite literally didn’t have anywhere to be right now. Apparently when one was dirt poor and landed in a coma, one’s shitty, shady landlord did not keep one’s apartment open. So now her meagre supply of stuff- mostly her potions kits, and all her plants- was taking up space in a friend’s apartment until she found a new place to live.
She’d been slowly coaxing the local pigeons to accept her as one of them when she caught sight of the most gorgeous winged creature she’d ever seen, short of a dragon.
The pigeons scattered when she rose from the bench and loped over to the man nonchalantly holding a golden eagle on his wrist, excitement writ across her features.
“Look at you, gorgeous!” she cooed at the bird, shooting the man a curious glance. “Who are you and will you tell me about this lovely creature, pretty please?”

Friendly Encounters
“McNair!” Rodolphus grinned. It had been some time since he last saw Walden in person, and he was glad to see that the man seemed to be doing well. “It’s about time I ran into you- where’ve you been hiding? I-”
He’d gone to clap the other man on the back in good spirits, but he’d happened to glance down and was staring in bewilderment at the small puppy at the end of Walden’s leash.
“... Walden...” he looked back up at Walden, and raised a single brow. “That is a puppy. Why do you have a puppy?”

Strange Meetings
Lucius did not like being around people. Mostly because, in his life, people expected things of him which he either could not deliver, or could only after a vast amount of turmoil and pain. Really, in a perfect world Lucius never left the haven of Malfoy Manor- with Narcissa it had become a place of dreams, rather than nightmares- and no-one ever expected anything of him again. Alas, the world he lived in was far from perfect.
Which was why he found himself stepping out to meet Walden McNair, of all people, for lunch. Not only was McNair a Ministry executioner, but Lucius had seen the kind of violence he reveled in when behind a Death Eater’s mask, and that delight gave him chills. How such a man could be so charismatic in public, and so violent in private, was beyond him. How he’d ended up with someone as pretty and sweet as Daisy Hookum was equally baffling. Lucius had met her at Malcolm’s wedding and been surprised but delighted by their ease of conversation, how unpretentious she was. Perhaps it was an American thing?
“McNair,” he greeted, public mask of the neutral, forgettable pureblood heir firmly in place as he finally found their table at the chosen restaurant. “It’s good to see you again.” No, it really wasn’t. “How has Daisy been? A genuine question, considering her fiance’s arrest a month ago must have been quite the harrowing affair.

What Happens Now
@toomcnairtocare
Daisy wasn’t proud of herself for the past month. She wasn’t proud of herself for a lot of things in the past six months or so, especially lately. She hadn’t talked to Zephyr since she’d told him about the baby, and that hadn’t gone well. She hadn’t told Pandora or anyone else about the problems going on in her life. She didn’t have Sybill to confide in at all anymore. And Walden... Daisy knew she’d messed up.
She’d gone hysterical. She’d yelled, she’d cried, she was pretty sure she’d screamed. But the two of the people she cared about most in the world, the two people she loved most in this country, had finally collided. And Daisy couldn’t stomach thinking of what else could have happened. From what Walden said, it had been bad enough as it was, and she couldn’t exactly go running to Zephyr to see if he was all right. She felt trapped, stuck in a trap she’d unwittingly created for herself. And she’d taken it out on Walden.
After saying such horrible things, making accusations about broken promises and lies, Daisy had fled. She’d run back to Hogwarts and not left for a solid month. Daisy had made excuses about why she was staying at the castle, but as she watched the small changes in her body, the proof that her baby--their baby--was growing. She was solidly in her second trimester now, and Daisy knew that when she eventually came home, she would look different to Walden’s eyes.
She was being a coward. And she needed to go home.
When Daisy eventually flooed home, she stood in the sitting room for a long while without calling out. She had no idea what she would say when she saw Walden, if she should beg forgiveness for running away like that or demand an apology that he had created such a situation in the first place. Then again, that wasn’t fair either. They’d both been equally involved. She’d been complicit by not following up, not asking more questions. She hadn’t wanted to know.
Daisy took a deep breath, ready to finally call out, but something stopped her. Daisy didn’t want to make Walden come running. Instead she quietly traveled through the house. He wasn’t in his office or the kitchen, as she might have expected this time of night, and she wondered if he wasn’t home. There was a ball tonight, she remembered absently. Would Walden have gone without her?
That seemed unlike him, so Daisy continued on. She went next to their bedroom and stood in the doorway staring at their abandoned marriage bed. It had been a month since she’d slept in it. She’d left Walden to occupy it alone all that time.
Eventually Daisy forced herself to move forward. At this point, with a feeling of dread settling in her stomach, Daisy knew where she would find him.
The nursery door was open, and Daisy paused again in the doorway, but this time with her breath stolen. Walden had made progress on the room in her absence, and the fact that he had kept working even when she was nowhere in sight made her heart ache. The ache was only made stronger as she watched him stand immobile before the crib. She wondered what he was thinking. She didn’t believe she deserved to know.
“You’ve done so much,” she eventually said, breaking the silence of the room. Since Walden didn’t seem to know she was there, Daisy knew she’d probably put him on high alert, but although his reflexes usually were to act, Daisy wasn’t afraid of him hurting her. No matter what else was true in the world, she knew Walden would never intentionally hurt her.

Start A Riot
The Ministry hadn’t gotten any better about providing maps and directories since Henry’s last visit, but he was much less cautious this time, so rather than wandering around he simply grabbed the first person he saw and gave them a dazzling smile. “Hello there, I’m a bit lost, do you think you could help me?” And in no time the nice woman was dropping him off right at the door to Walden’s office, before Henry gently pushed her away in a daze. It would wear off eventually and he honestly didn’t care about any time the detour may have cost her.
He kicked open the door with one of his boots and grinned when he saw the other man inside, looking rather morose. Henry couldn’t imagine that he had much to do these days, even if he had been acquired.
“Get up, we’re going somewhere fancy,” he said. Ivan cooed on his shoulder, ruffling his feathers and nibbling fondly at the steel rings pierced up the side of Henry’s left ear. “We can bitch about being unfairly arrested.”
He paused, leaning against the doorway with his arms crossed and looking Walden up and down. He was an executioner after all. “Well, maybe it was fair in your case but I’m not one to judge. I’m sure you had good reasons.”

Zahi stared, completely unimpressed. He was used to it being clear that Walden didn’t have enough to keep himself entertained. Without Daisy, though, his friend was absolutely spiraling. That was abundantly clear for Zahi to see as he surveyed the torn apart room and Walden laying in the middle of it all, downy pillow feathers still floating down.
“What did the couch do to you?” Zahi asked, tone filled with boredom. He’d quickly learned that one of the fastest ways to pull in Walden’s attention was to pretend you didn’t want it. He’d found that it worked almost every time.

There were many things that Adam liked about owning a bookstore. One, books weren't annoying like people. Two, books didn't talk like people. Three, books were reliable. The things he didn't like about owning a bookstore was that it was a magical one and that meant all different sorts of wizards and witches walked through the door.
Wizards and witches like Walden McNair. From the moment he walked through the doors Adam knew he didn’t like him. One, he was a wizard and two, he looked funny. There was just something off about his face so when he entered, Adam took only a quick glance at him from the desk before looking back down at his book.

walden & narcissa
The path to McNair wasn't challenging. The man was influential, wealthy, and could assist Narcissa in the fundraising she was setting up to get the money she needed to invest in Death Eaters. He could be a great source of washing in that fundraising, and, for her, it would be the ideal alternative for such an act. "Walden." She started, approaching and offered her hand to greet him. "I believe that this space is sufficient for our conversation. How are you doing? I saw your wife a few days ago, and she seemed very happy." Badly dressed, Narcissa wanted to say but preferred to act as respectfully as possible.
