yeah okay arthur returns or arthur is reborn, no matter how it happens, what if they are always doomed to have only a certain amount of time? for the rest of forever? what if arthur dies in every timeline. what if merlin has to wait for him to come back again and again just for a few years together. merlin would try to distance himself, thinking he could save him, even if that meant not having him. arthur, too, would try in his own ways. he'd tell merlin to move on, he'd try to stay away as well, to save the other in a different way. but their paths would always, always cross and they would regret wasting the time they did have. what if their fates were so intertwined that their story turned into endless loops of tragedy, always cursed - merlin with too much time, arthur with too little. and neither could escape.
