📽️ Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

I love the first Avatar movie. I honestly don’t even know how many times I’ve seen it. So I was super excited for this one. I can’t say that it disappointed, but it was definitely different from what I was expecting. I can’t honestly say that I liked it better than the first one, although my sister did. I did enjoy the storyline, but I also felt it was a bit contrived with Quaritch pretty much coming back to life. I liked seeing Jake and Neytiri’s family, and I’m excited to see what happens with them in the next few movies. This movie was a good setup for those.

Sex/nudity: 1/10 (the Na’vi are semi-naked the whole time but they’re also aliens so idk)

Language: 5/10 (one f-word but quite a bit of other cursing)

Violence: 6/10 (a lot of battle scenes, some including deaths)

Overall rating: 8/10

Hello this maybe a spoiler or not I’m just wondering how do you think Kayla will react to wearing full Navi clothes do you think she would be comfortable because if you watched the first movie you see how Jake feels in that kind of clothing but how would a Kayla feel

I don't think this would be considered a spoiler so I'd be happy to answer. So yes, Jake wasn't accustomed to Na'vi attire at first but he quickly got used to it. I don't think Kayla would have the same sentiment and here's why:

One, Jake's a male. As we know, Earth as a whole isn't as strict about men's modesty compared to women's. Men can walk around shirtless and no one bats an eye. I wish I could say the same for women, but we all know how that is.

Sure, some men feel self-conscious and wear many layers or refuse to take off their shirts for a swim, but Jake doesn't strike me as self-conscious. I'm sure the Na'vi attire wasn't that big of an adjustment for him.

(Hi, dropping some more AI art of her 🥰 for context: this isn't what she would wear as a human on Pandora. This is just basically her wearing her avatar's clothing.)

For Kayla, it's different. I don't mean to bring our day in age up while discussing a fictional world and characters, but I like comparing Earth and Pandora so that in the fic's future, Tonowari and Ronal will begin to understand where Kayla comes from.

(Side note: I don't think Jake mentioned Earth or its customs enough to Neytiri in the movies and I wish he did, honestly. It could be a funny little scene where Jake tries to explain what a taco is OR it could be an eye-opening moment for Neytiri to understand why Jake is the way he is.)

Sorry, getting off-topic. Back to Kayla. She was born and grew up in a world where women's bodies are sadly objectified and held up to high standards. Sure, she may not agree with it but it's been engraved in her brain to cover up her chest. She's self-conscious just like any other everyday woman so she clearly stands out among a crowd of awesome, badass Na'vi females who don't give a shit. And just to be clear, Kayla isn't disgusted by Na'vi women's attire. Maybe at first she was surprised but she's never judged them for it. She's happy that they're confident in their skin and is probably envious of them.

I think as a whole we love and appreciate Na'vi culture because they clearly don't objectify their women's bodies. I'm gonna link this post here because I think it explains that subject perfectly in my eyes. It talks about how progressed the Na'vi are as a species who don't sexualize female reproductive organs.

Going back to Kayla, she comes from a world where she's told to cover up and "be modest" and while she's not exactly a modest woman (example: her crop top), she still has those teachings engraved in the back of her head (hence why the crop top still covers up). Bringing back what she's told Jake a bunch of times, there's nothing wrong with being a part of two different worlds. While Jake has pretty easily slid into Na'vi customs, Kayla very much still holds onto Earth customs because she still appreciates where she comes from in some shape or form.

And I did try dropping hints about her insecurities in past chapters. We see how hard it was for her to get used to the avatar body she now spends the majority of her time in. And who knows... in future chapters, she might begin to feel that body dysmorphia or out-of-body Jake was experiencing in the first Avatar movie. 👀

Will she eventually erase and be able to relearn how to love the skin she's in and confidently wear Na'vi attire? Only time will tell. Hope this answers your question!

Might have posted already but here it is.

Would absolutely adore a sequel to FTNADOL, to me that’s one of the most interesting parts of Spider’s character and the mystery that comes with it. We don’t know what the future of his canon arc is so exploring that gives a little more freedom (though this applies less since your completely different)

But getting to explore the trauma and potential guilt he feels would just be great. I hate to say ‘make this’ but a good example of tonality is something like ‘Half Alive’. A story about Spider coming to terms with his identity and place on Pandora. But you have the perfect setup for comforting him, his whole family coming together to care for their oldest brother who went through torture to keep them safe. As I’ve said, Angst/Comfort is my lifeblood, I will drink that up like a vampire craving their next meal. There’s such a warm and happy feeling, I get moments like that in FTNADOL but seeing it after all that happens would be *chefs kiss* peak fan fiction writing.

P.S if you’re looking to make a ‘defending our brother’ scene then replacing Kiri with Spider in the fight on the beach would be an example. But I figure you have your ideas. My hope is mostly to spark stuff in your mind and help think if other ideas to make it even better. Hope it comes off that way.

I'm glad you'd love more of this story! And yes to the mystique and mysteriousness of Spider's arc because there's been rumours, but nothing really concrete.

I honestly love Half Alive @eirianerisdar inspired Our Hearts because she included a bit of Tonowari and Spider interacting and my brain wanted more so badly. And it will be very comfort heavy, but I have a feeling there will be a lot to work through...

P.S of course it comes out that way! and I do like the suggestions, I just need to start formulating stuff but I'm entrenched in ftnadol. that and Melissa @be-the-glenn-to-my-maggie posted something about avatar!Spider which I didn't know I needed...but I'm ignoring that plot bunny for now even though it wants me to follow it XD

“Collision” Updates (i’m so sorry 💔 )

Hello everyone!

For those of who who have been waiting on my fic “Collision”, this is for you.

So, I have good news. And I have some bad news.

Good news is I finished the first 3 chapters.

Bad news is, I'm re-writing all of it currently.

I apologize for this delay.

(yes fandom I know we've had enough of the delays lately but bear with me bby’s, I promise i’m working my hardest 😭)

The problem is, I just didn't like how it was turning out. And I want to give you guys the best experience I possibly can through my writing.

I’ve been working all night on the first chapter layout and I promise you guys, it's looking so much better.

In the meantime, here are some sneak peaks of what I've added so far.

1. Y/n is apart of a fictional na’vi clan I created called the ‘Sekani’ tribe. I am Native American, and it is based off of my own tribe because na’vi culture is pieced off of factual aspects of Native culture. I thought it would be a great opportunity to share the experience of feeling like a na’vi id my readers were shown a world based off of a real tribe.

2. It does not follow the events of ATWOW, so unfortunately, we lack characters like Ao’nung, Tsireya, Rotxo, Ronal, and Tonowari.

But, to make up for it, I have created characters that are very closely modeled and based after them.

3. The Sekani are very similar to the Tayrangi, but more governed.

4. I'm doing a ‘find all of the parallels and references from the first movie’ thing with Lo’ak and the reader.

5. Sekani wear white paint around their eyes almost similar to eyeliner.

6. Enemies to lovers type shit.

7. I wanted to be inclusive, so due to the Sekani climate, they can have any texture of hair (culry, straight, wavy, braids, love, etc)

8. Y/n’s personality is strongly similar to Annabeth from the ‘Percy Jackson’ series for those who are familiar.

9. Lots of bonding with the Sully family along with your adventure with Lo’ak.

10: I know at least one of you is thinking it, and no.

Neteyam does not die. The only deaths are minor characters, the only major death is one I refuse to spoil so read and find out.

and Duane Evans too! He plays Rotxo. and i’m sure there are other māori actors we are forgetting.

but i think they also forget it’s a fictional movie about aliens who are on another planet, they don’t need to be an exact copy and paste of māori or other PI. i would understand more if it wasn’t about aliens and about actual people.
