Eats sat on the bus stop's bench, sniffling and wiping his watery eyes. He stared blankly ahead, his music blaring in his ears. He was supposed to be watching for Mackey, but he couldn't stop crying.

Becoming more alert, Eats pulled off his headphones as someone approached. He narrowed his eyes, growing tense. What if it was Mackey? Or whoever this serial killer was? Was he in danger? Should he run?

"Eats." You spoke softly, coming into the streetlight and into his view. He felt his anxieties melt as he quickly wiped away the rest of his tears. "Davey said you'd be here. I thought you might want some company." You smiled.

"Farraday." He croaked, before quickly clearing his throat. "What's up?" He smiled, trying to sound okay so he didn't embarrass himself in front of his best friend's sister. "Are you okay?" You ask softly, sitting down next to him. "Yeah, i'm fine! Just... Bored." He shrugged, looking off towards the road before his gaze returned to you. "I thought you'd be with your family at the Cape May Festival."

You shook your head, "Nah, they don't let Curtis skip it but I lied and said I had summer homework to catch up on." You shrug with a smile. He hummed, "You always were the better liar."

"So, what's up with you? You look like you've been crying. Everything alright?" You ask softly, gently resting your hand on his cheek to observe his face. Tommy felt his heart melt. You were always so kind to him. "Nah, I haven't been crying. What am I, 5?" He joked, letting you access the red rings around his eyes. You hum, "It's okay to cry, Tommy. Curtis cries over not understanding a question in school."

He laughs, "That's because your brother's a pussy." You laugh along. "Yeah, but at least he knows it's okay for boys to cry." You smile softly, going to pull your hand away until he leaned into your touch, his own hand coming up to hold yours. "My dad and Kyle always say boys shouldn't cry." He mumbled, holding your warm hand against his cold cheek.

"It's always okay to cry, Tommy." You say softly, your thumb stroking his soft skin. "C-can I show you something?" He sniffled rather timidly. You smile and nod, pulling your hand away to watch him. He shuffles away to let you see his side as he pulls up his shirt. You gasp at the large, dark, ill-looking bruise blooming over his skin, painting his ribs an ugly mix of purple and yellow. You gently reach out to run your fingers over his ribs, in which he hisses, his muscles twitching under your delicate touch. "Sorry, does it hurt?" You ask gently, removing your hand. Eats nods, "A little."

"Who did this?" You ask, rather firmly before softening up as he flinches at your tone. "Let me help, Tommy." You say softly. "M-my parents can uhh, get a little heated. They a-argue a lot... My dad he..." He froze up, tears dripping down his cheeks. You pulled Tommy into a gentle hug, and he tensed up before eventually melting into you, sobbing into your shoulder. You hated seeing him so upset. "It's okay, Tommy, it's okay." You whisper softly, gently stroking his hair as his cries shook both of you.

"H-he hit m-my mom! I t-tried to stop h-him and he p-pushed me down and k-kicked me.." Tommy sobbed, "K-Kyle doesn't c-care!" You felt your heart crack as you held him a little tighter. "It's okay, I'm going to make sure they don't ever hurt you again okay?" You mumble to him. "H-how?" Tommy whimpered, wiping his cheeks as he pulled away, his watery eyes gazing into yours. "We're gonna go over there in the morning to grab all your stuff and you're gonna stay with me and Curtis okay?" You say as you gently hold his face, letting him melt into you as he cried.

"Shit!" You cursed, and Eats flinched. "What?" He mumbled turning around to see Mackey's car heading towards his house, he smiled and waved at both of you. You let Tommy hide his face in your shoulder, not wanting to be seen crying by Davey's suspect. Swallowing thickly, you smile and wave back to defuse any suspicion on Mackey's side. "Quick, give me your walkie." You whisper to Tommy as he hands it over.

"Davey, I hope whatever you guys are doing you're either done or doing it fast because Mackey's heading your way!" You hissed into the speaker. "Shit! Already?! 'Kay, meet us at Eat's treehouse and get in touch with Farraday!" Davey whisper yelled back, with some shuffling and back ground commotion. You figured he, Woody and Nikki were getting the hell out of there.

"C'mon, Tommy. We should get to your treehouse." You smile as you pat his cheek gently. He sniffled and nodded, standing up and offering his hand to you. With a smile, you take his hand and let him kiss you briefly when you stood up. Eats went to hurry away, face burning red. Giving his hand a tug, you pull him back and kiss him again. "C'mon, let's go." You smile, watching him blink in disbelief before cracking into a goofy smile as you both took off, hand in hand, down the street to where the others would be waiting.

He'd definitely have something to brag about tomorrow.

Horror Movie Mini-Reviews: Movie 28 of ??

IMDB Summary:

After suspecting that their police officer neighbor is a serial killer, a group of teenage friends spend their summer spying on him and gathering evidence, but as they get closer to discovering the truth, things get dangerous.

Nonsensical Thoughts:

Summer of 84 (2018) is essentially what would happen if Stephen King had written Disturbia. When will the 80’s nostalgia go off to war? Or at least the kid side of it. I want to see what the college kids were doing. My parents were in college in the 80’s, I’d like more films that show that experience through the lens of nostalgia. Will I have to make that film? But, I digress.

This was an entertaining watch. The kids were great and the script was solid. If you are looking for a slasher film, this is not it, but it is a good mystery horror.

Okay I changed my mind on Michael Cera being the older version of Davey.

I kinda gave up on who looked most like Eats, I TRIED, and Seb was the outcome.

And yes, I realize Thomas Sangter is the youngest out of all of them, but still I just thought he was a good FC for older Farraday.
