You seem like youre frustrated with her character the same way I get with her too.

I think see the potential of the character she could be and should be with the correct writing and stories.

I really didnt like her Batgirl run either. There are bits and parts of it I do like and concepts of things there I love but I really dont care for it.

I also wish she wasnt used as a marketing tactic during "run" as Robin. If they were actually serious about it, they wouldve written her run differently and hopefully better.

Thats also the problem with all comic book characters, they have so many different writers with different ideas of what to do with these characters. Unfortunately some of them dont like the characters they write for. I know that Dan Didio hates Steph and never wrote her well because of that. (He also hated Dick Grayson and wanted to kill him off too)

Characters like Steph really are up to interpretation how they are supposes to be personality wise. Recently i havent been liking how shes been written for certain comics (Batgirls, Wayne Family Adventures)

You and I similar to seeing a character we want to be better. I see that she has all this potential to be a great character and love her despite all the garbage writing shes had over her 30+ years of existence

The lack of good stories is a part of it, yeah.

It's also the fact that, while she's hanging around not telling any stories of her own, her ability to do so often comes at the expense of other characters. Like a few months back, they randomly shoved her into a Titans line-up when she's never been a Titan, not once in her entire career, while the actual Batgirl who joined the Titans, Betty/Bette Kane, was nowhere to be seen. And she's part of what ruined YJ 2019, getting forced in awkwardly purely because a bunch of her stans spent months harassing the creators on Twitter, spewing racist epitaphs at the new black characters and demanding that she be included in a team she wasn't solicited for and, again, had never been a part of, purely because Tim was there and they decided he wasn't allowed to have a life without her.

And speaking of that last bit, don't even get me started on the Tim Drake Pride Special again or we'll be here all day. It is genuinely offensive how many people demanded that Tim's coming out be oriented entirely around the feelings of his straight ex-girlfriend.

That's why I can't read Batgirls, either. I can't stand the way they write the relationship between Steph and Cass, it's got no teeth, and perpetually reduces Cass to Steph's "Kato," the hyper-competent Asian sidekick who does all the actual work for an inept white person. Even the issue where they tried to make a big deal out of, "Ooo, this is a special CASS CENTRIC ADVENTURE, we're doing it COMPLETELY SILENT with NO WORDS!" turned out to be all about her running around trying to find Stephanie, and then they copped out with the gimmick and made it so the only words in the book were Stephanie's, talking mostly about -- surprise! -- herself, how great she is and how much she loves being a Batgirl.

Ugh. Spirit World can't come fast enough.

Honestly, when it comes to her run as Robin, I think the story itself could've been just fine if they'd left it as it was and just, hadn't made a big freakin' marketing deal about "OoOoOooOooOoo, the GIRL WONDER, how SPECIAL!!!" They didn't do that with Carrie. Or Tris Plover. Hell, at the time a few people pointed out how silly it was for them to make such a big deal out of her being a girl when Carrie Kelly is the most well known alt-Robin period and the co-star of one of the defining texts of the age.

But, y'know, Carrie was a short-haired butch tomboy with thick glasses who fought with a sling-shot, while Steph is the single most gender-conforming Bat-femme since Betty Kane and is consistently drawn to show off her child-bearing hips so. Yeah.

The part that honestly needs fixing is War Games, which I honestly think is still something that Steph needed to happen, because it did lead her to a moment of growth that she desperately needed (even if Chuck Dixon and Bryan Miller later ruined it.) I think you could fix that story up with just a few adjustments. But, hindsight is 20/20 and all.

I do have to caution a little against attributing malice where ignorance or incompetence is more likely, though. I've never seen any evidence that Dan Didio "hated" either Steph or Dick; rather, what he saw them as was expendable. By all accounts I've ever heard, when he was editorially mandating Dick's death in Infinite Crisis, he legitimately didn't know that Dick used to be the original Robin, he just knew that Nightwing wasn't Batman or Robin and thought that made him expendable enough to kill off for shock value. It took Geoff Johns talking him out of it at literally the last minute to get him to see sense.

(Seriously, you can tell that the page was drawn off a script where Dick got full-on murdered, and the original floppy release didn't have the hilariously awkward page they inserted into the collected editions where Dr. Mid-night promises to save him. It's kinda funny in retrospect.)

Stephanie was the same way, it wasn't that he "hated" her, he just didn't care about any character introduced after the silver age and thought that killing her off would be more ~shocking~ than letting her live and learn a lesson. Didio wasn't evil, he was just bad at his job. Your standard incompetent white guy failing up.

His Girl

Plot: Dick Grayson has a type in women: athletic, feminine, and classy. However, the reader is completely different as she is plus-size, tomboyish, and spontaneous. But a conversation about Y/N between Dick and the batboys takes an unexpected turn one night.

Warnings: Language, Sensitive topics, and Fluff.

“What the hell’s up your ass?” Jason asks Dick, as he hands him a bottle of beer from the refrigerator in the Batcave. It was only until last week that Bruce gave in and allowed a refrigerator to be down there after the boys begged him for one.

As long as it was only for beverages, of course. Bruce had mentioned the boys have been eating too much junk food lately, but the boys knew deep down that his rule is simply for him, because of his age, and maybe for Y/N, too.

Y/N has only been with the Batfamily for a year since her family died at the hands of Two-Face. She had only started training with Bruce for two months now, and the two of them have been working out quite a bit.

Which makes sense of Bruce’s one rule for the refrigerator, though. But that hasn’t stopped Jason from sneaking in food anyways; mostly pizza and lunch meat and cheeses for sandwiches.

But now, Dick’s distant and silence is unbearable since the circus descent acrobat is usually excited and rambling about anything and everything.

“Uh, nothing! I mean...” Dick stutters. His behavior tonight was questionable to say the least. Usually, he would be on his game and even throw some wisecracks but he’s been awfully quiet, nervous even.

“Uh-huh, sure. Whatever you say,” Jason scoffs.

Dick sits on top of the hood of the Batmobile while he peels the sticky label from the beer bottle. He notices Tim and Damian walking out from the showers and are already dressed in sweatpants and t-shirts. Bruce is seated at the Batcomputer, still in costume but minus the cowl. Jason sits at the small table and sips from his beer and snacks on a triple meat and cheese sandwich he must have made quickly.

And Alfred had long gone to bed after Bruce forced him to get some rest since they’ve returned home and are not dead.

Dick suddenly notices Y/N must still be in the showers, on the other side of the cave for privacy where the guys can’t bother the girls.

“Fine...I’ve been...having these thoughts and dreams about Y/N lately,” Dick confesses. He notices Jason staring at him with a confused expression.

“Yeah, and…?”

“Well…lately, I’ve been thinking about her as…more than a friend. I’ve been seeing her in a new light. And you know I’ve always thought she was cool, and funny, and incredibly smart,” Dick continues, with a small smile. “But…I’ve never been sexually attracted to women like her before.”

Jason purses his lips and appears to think it over. “So, I don’t see the problem.”

“I just told you I’ve never felt this way about Y/N or any woman like her before.”

“Because you’re shallow.”

“I’m not shallow,” Dick argues, suddenly feeling defensive at Jason’s attack. “I just…I’ve never seen heavy women as hot, you know?”

“You can try to justify all that, but the point is, you’re shallow.”

“Have you ever slept with a heavy girl before, Jason?!” Dick snaps.

Jason chuckles and grins. “Actually, I have.”

“Bullshit,” Dick scoffs.

“Yeah, I have Dickie-bird. It happened three years ago, when my Outlaws and I kicked Black Mask’s ass. We went to a bar to celebrate in downtown Gotham. Roy and Star left early to go fuck or something. I was left alone and I was about to call it a night until this smoking hot woman took a seat next to me. She had long dark hair, tan skin, and curves that made my mouth water and my cock hard enough to pound nails. She was gorgeous, but there were these assholes around her and were calling her fat and telling her to leave because no one here would take her home. And do you want to know what I did?” Jason asks.

“What?” Dick asks quietly.

“I took her home, after I broke all those guys’ jaws. She was fucking amazing, man. She had a magnificent ass that she actually allowed me to spank. Her curves were endless, and after I fucked her good three times, cuddling and falling asleep with her was probably the best part of the night. I’ve never felt so…comfortable and felt warm, because I actually felt someone beside me,” Jason admits.

Dick raises an eyebrow at him. “Wow, I didn’t think something like that could happen to you, Jason. If anything, I thought you were shallow.”

“I used to be, until I realized I was judging others, when I was actually trying to have others not judge me. Alfred actually helped me with that. I don’t remember every word he said exactly but he said I wasn’t trying all the ice cream flavors out there. Like, I was always sticking to a certain flavor of ice cream, and I wasn’t trying other kinds, meaning I should be looking at all types of women. And after my one night stand with that magnificent woman’s ass, I realized bigger girls aren’t deal breakers; they’re just more to love,” Jason admits, and shrugs with a smug smile.

“That’s…I don’t even know what to say. But Y/N’s different. She’s someone we know and it makes it harder. And my problem isn’t that I’m shallow, it’s how I’m supposed to handle my feelings about her.”

“Yeah, you are, Dick. Y/N’s literally the best woman we’ve ever met. Hell, the best woman I’VE ever met. She’s fucking funny, she’s so caring and kind, she’s smarter than Timbo when it comes to common sense,” Jason lists off his reasons.

“That’s true! I’m not going to lie about that!” Tim interrupts from the distance.

“Y/N’s real, she doesn’t bullshit about anything like other girls. She’s honest, and that’s a rare thing to find nowadays. And fuck…she can really handle her alcohol, she can down shots of Fireball like it’s water,” Jason adds.

“You don’t think I know all that? Of course, I do! That’s why I’m having such a hard time dealing with my feelings for her. I’ve only ever been with tall, athletic women, who wear skirts and dresses, eats healthy, and are…well, feminine,” Dick confesses. A guilty expression shows on his face. “And Y/N’s not any of that. She’s really short, kinda chubby, and she’s more of a tomboy type, who’s loud and rambunctious, and eats like a man.”

Jason snorts. “And that’s a problem why? That’s why Y/N’s fucking awesome, man! I actually really like how she’s not afraid to be herself. She’s not fake. Do you know how long it took for her to be comfortable with all of us and be who she is rather than how she thought we expected from her? And I don’t know about you but I love how she eats, whenever we go out to restaurants, I actually like how I can eat the way I want and not feel like a fat ass because I know her and I both love what we love and fuck all who have a problem with that!”

Bruce turns around in his chair and gives both boys a warning look. Even Tim and Damian silently take a seat and watch closely.

“Fuck…Y/N is the perfect woman. She’ll always be in my eyes,” Jason admits, looking down at his beer longingly before taking a sip.

“If you feel so strongly about her then why haven’t you tried to go out with her or sleep with her?” Dick asks angrily.

Jason’s pause takes everyone by surprise. “Because she can do better than me.”

“You-you actually tried to get with her?” Dick stammers.

“Oh, yeah I definitely did. I think about a year ago. I had spent the summer with her here while everyone was busy with the whole Justice League and Superman bullshit,” Jason explains. “You were with the Titans with Tim and Damian. It was just me and her.”

“Alfred was there as well,” Bruce mumbles.

“Anyways, call it cheesy as hell like those romcoms, but we actually got really close. She’s a spitfire for sure, but she really knows how to get under your skin,” Jason chuckles.

Tim and Damian nod their heads in agreement with that.

“And I obviously made the whole situation uncomfortable as fuck because when I told her how I felt, she rejected me. She said we were too alike, we’d butt heads all the time. And after that, I never brought it up again.”

Jason’s confession gives Dick a sense of confidence.

“Look, if you want to ask her out and do all that then I support you. Just know if you fucking hurt her or do anything wrong, I’ll slit your throat even if you’re family,” Jason threatens seriously.

“I wouldn’t even know how to bring it up with her,” Dick says.

“Well, don’t bring up how her weight and appearance bothers you,” Jason says seriously.

“It doesn’t!”

“Okay. How did you ask Barbara, Star, Zatanna, and-”

“I get it, Jason. I’ll just talk to her and tell her I have strong feelings for her,” Dick interrupts him. “I’ll just tell her the truth.”

“You already did.”

That voice belonged to none other than Y/N. All the guys in the Batcave jerked their heads to the top of the stairs where Y/N stood and looked down with tears running down her cheeks. She was wearing her plaid pajama pants and a loose black t-shirt she stole from one of them a long time ago, she doesn’t exactly know who though.

Dick and Jason slowly stand up. Dick carefully walks over to the stairs while Jason cautiously follows.

“Y/N…” Dick whispers, already feeling guilty and nervous that she had probably heard everything. “Please listen to me…”

“WHY?! So, you can tell me you didn’t mean any of that, when you actually did. I thought you were different! I didn’t know you could judge someone like that! Especially someone like me!” Y/N yells. “I thought you were my friend!”

“I am your friend! Y/N, please give me a chance to explain! I really like you, and-and I was just trying to ask for help so I can talk to you!” Dick pleads.

“Don’t lie to me! You were only asking for help because you didn’t know how to deal with me being fat and manly! I’m sorry I’m not like Barbara and Star! I’m sorry I’m not beautiful and thin! I’m sorry I’m not perfect for you!” Y/N cries out and runs up the stairs.

“Y/N! Wait! Please!” Dick shouts for her. He chases after her.

By the time Dick reaches Y/N’s bedroom door, it’s locked. He can hear her crying, automatically feeling like shit for being the reason why she’s hurt.

“Y/N, please…” Dick tries again.

“Leave me alone, Dick!”

Dick swallows hard and forces himself to move away from her door. There was no use for him to stand there; he’d already broke her trust and possibly ruined their friendship. He might have even ruined his chances with her.

Jason approaches Dick. “Is she crying?” he asks.

“Yes,” Dick chokes out. He runs a hand through his dark hair. “Fuck, Jason…I don’t know what to do. She won’t even talk to me.”

“You should go, Dick. I think you’ve done enough.”

Dick was a little taken aback by Jason’s command. He pushes himself to walk away anyways.

“Bruce wants to talk to you. You should go find him before he finds you,” Jason adds.

Dick exhales heavily and leaves. Jason shakes his head in disappointment at him. He takes a deep breath and knocks on Y/N’s bedroom door.

“Doll, it’s Jay. Please let me in,” Jason says softly. “I just want to talk to you.”

He didn’t think she would open the door for him. He didn’t think she would want to talk to him even though he hadn’t pissed her off or upset her in any way. But Y/N unlocked her door and even opened it for him.

Jason was deeply heartbroken to see Y/N; her eyes were red and swollen, her cheeks were wet, and she had the devastating look on her beautiful face. He quickly walked into her room and shut the door, quickly locking it.

He had to be cautious though. He knew couldn’t say or do the things he wants to do with her right now. Instead, he slowly and carefully approaches her. She allows him to wrap his strong arms around her, bringing her closely to his body to hold and protect her from everyone and everything.

“Shh…it’s okay, sweetheart. I got you. I’m not going anywhere,” Jason whispers into her hair. He tries desperately to not inhale the addicting scent of her shampoo and lingering perfume so much. “You’re okay. Everything’s going to be okay.”

Y/N lifts her face from Jason’s chest and gazes up at him. The sight of her glistening eyes makes him draw her closer to him.

“What did I do wrong, Jay? What did I do to deserve all that? Is everything about me really bad?” Y/N asks softly, on the verge of tears again.

“No. No, don’t say that. Don’t say any of that! Nothing is wrong with you. You’re beautiful, Y/N. You’re perfect just the way you are,” Jason admits.

Y/N shakes her head in disbelief. It breaks Jason’s heart more when she tries to pull away from his embrace, but he refuses to let her go. His grip tightens and he holds her as if she’d disappear and leave him all alone.

“That’s not true, Jay,”

“It is true. Hell Y/N, you’re the most badass woman I’ve ever met. You don’t take shit from any of us. You’ve managed to stay here even after all the bullshit everyone has put you through,” he explains. He even chuckles at a memory. “You’ve even made Bruce cry, remember? Remember you called him out on his bullshit when he refused to train you? You’re almost a savage like Alfred, you even make Wonder Woman and Catwoman look like dollar tree prizes, and that’s no lie.”

Y/N looks down at her feet. Jason knows she still doesn’t believe him.

“You’re always perfect in my eyes, Y/N. There isn’t a goddamn thing I would change about you,”

“If I’m so perfect, then why does Dick think so low of me?” Y/N asks. She sniffles adorably and looks back up at him.

“Because he’s a fucking idiot who can’t see the best thing that’s in front of him,” Jason answers, and looks into Y/N’s eyes before he looks at her lips. “But his loss is my gain.”

I think one reason I’m so attached to the Core Four aka Tim, Cassie, Bart and Kon is because throughout their whole runs, they were always the outcasts. They earned the League’s and the world’s respect but these kids were clearly not exactly what their mentors wanted and they knew it. They weren’t like the sidekicks that came before them and they were always held to much higher standards. Because of this, I think they became one of the closest set of Titans. Yeah, the original Five are pretty tight but the kids who started YJ and eventually reformed the Teen Titans knew for a while all they had was each other.

Tim Drake was Robin III, he not only was following in Golden Boy, Dick Grayson’s footsteps, you know? the original sidekick that all teen sidekicks were modeled after but Jason Todd, Batman’s kid who died in the line of duty. Those were some shoes to fill, not to mention Bruce really didn’t want Tim there at first, afraid he’d endanger another child and also afraid of opening himself up to love again after the loss of his son. He had to work twice as hard as the others to prove himself worthy and he was probably still worried of losing his cape if he didn’t meet Batman’s expectations. His friends became a safe haven bc not only was he allowed to relax a little without worrying about being good enough but, to them, he was Robin without question.

Conner was forcibly inserted into Superman’s life, a clone born of Lex Luthor using Clark’s DNA without consent. We all give Supes shit for being weird with Kon but it IS a weird situation. Kon was biologically 15/16 but only a few months old. He had knowledge but no experience, instincts but no sense. He, like Tim, wanted to live up to this monumental legacy he’d been born into which was hard when none of the other Supers really wanted him there. He tried to be bigger, badder, more grown up to show how worthy he was when in reality he was acting pretty childishly. He just wanted to be accepted, cloned alien test tube baby and all. The team gave him somewhere to belong, gave him a purpose in life and helped him learn who Conner Kent, Kon-El was beyond Luthor or Superman wanted him to be. Even when he earned his right to wear the S shield, he never stopped being an outsider. Except of course with his buds.

Cassie wasn’t born an Amazon, she wasn’t immortal or a trained fighter or filled with an awe inspiring grace like Diana or Donna. Those two woman were monuments of peace and justice and a fierce warrior spirit. Cassie was the daughter of a single mother who stumbled into heroism by being the daughter/granddaughter (depending on the version) of Zeus. She wasn’t a calming example, a shining pillar, she was a teenage girl who liked crop tops and cargo boots and unresolved anger issues she worked out with her fists. She was silly and petty and very human compared to the godlike Amazons. Diana tried to mold her, to teach her to be like her and Donna but Cassie refused to bend even though she wanted to be that person, she just couldn’t. Hanging with a bunch of boys only brought out her aggressive tomboy nature, to Diana’s dismay, but she found kindred spirits who don’t mind that she wasn’t exactly a saint but appreciated that she was funny as hell and had a wicked right hook.

Bart Allen was never in anyone’s plan. He was a whirlwind speedster kid from the future, claiming to be Barry Allen’s grandson. He was overly energetic, childlike from growing up too quickly (literally), quirky, and refused to slow down to cater to slow people. Managing him was a nightmare and Bart didn’t make it easy. He was shuffled around, he trained with and bonded with Max Mercury only to be sent to the Garricks when Max disappeared. It was clear no one knew what to do with Impulse. He was probably put on YJ to burn off some energy but he ended up fining people like him, unwanted outcasts of the big heroes and finally, finally, he had a reason to stop running, to slow down to interact with normal people. Suddenly it became important for him to live up to the Flash name, to hone his speed because he might be able to outrun baddies but his friends couldn’t. He kept twisting his personality to try and be what the Flashes wanted but his pals told him that they love him as he was.

There were plenty of other members of Young Justice and the reformed Teen Titans, even people who also were outcasts. But these four were in the unique position of growing up together as the second/third kids of Big Name Heroes. Not good enough for the Justice League, they made themselves a little home with each other that not even death, retirement, fights or mentors were ever able to shake.

Background: Dr. Jacob Anderson's metagene obsession was unhealthy, to say the least. But he took it to a whole new level when he hired an unnamed woman and had her implanted with a fertilized embryo from his assistant, Adeline Carter. Of course Adeline had no knowledge of this until after Zoe was born. Dr. Anderson told Zoe her mother died giving birth and threatened Adeline. If she ever told Zoe the truth, she would never see her daughter again. On Zoe's 5th birthday, Dr. Anderson set up a foolproof plan to trigger his little test subject's metagene. Using a child's curiosity to his advantage and help from an old friend, he orchestrated a "freak accident" involving an energy housing unit set to go off. And it worked. Zoe messed with the mysterious machine, which sent a wave of energy right through her. From that moment on she became a human guinea pig. It was hell. When she wasn't being poked with needles she was subjected to awful experiments. Dr. Anderson pushed her passed her limits and if she didn't cooperate, she got punished. But there was a light in the darkness for Zoe, Adeline Carter. They didn't get to spend much time together, but when they did Zoe temporarily forgot all the horrible things she had to endure. Adeline would sneak books, movies and special snacks for Zoe. Sometimes she'd even sneak Zoe out for icecream or trips to the arcade. As Zoe got older, Dr. Anderson's experiments became life threatening. When Zoe was thirteen, she befriended a girl named Mel. Dr. Anderson brought Mel in to test Zoe. Mel had the ability to manipulate probability and he wanted to see if Zoe could beat it. And she did. Mel manipulated the probability in Zoe's favor because she knew Zoe would be punished if she lost.....and it cost her her life. Zoe was never the same after that. By the time she was fifteen, she was already planning her escape. She met this boy during one of her arcade trips with Adeline. They talked for awhile and he promised he'd help her. But he lied about everything. His intentions, his age. He used her to get an internship as a lab tech for Dr. Anderson. That was it. That was her breaking point. She packed everything she could carry and managed to slip out in the dead of night. She ran as far as her legs could carry her, but she knew she'd never truly escape it. Months later, after she turned sixteen she found herself in a familiar situation. She met a boy at an arcade. The green haired boy introduced himself as Gar. Eventually he ended up bringing her back to Titans Tower and she gained a new family.

I was tagged by @bloody-mary-23 to name 10 different characters from 10 different things.

Thinking about this actually made me realize that nowadays, I tend to read books and watch movies from a more critical lens, whereas I watch shows with more of a “fan” lens (not sure if that makes sense). Like, I had trouble even naming one favourite character from a book or a movie, maybe because I tend to just sit back and judge them? Whereas for TV shows I learn to identify with them or I aspire to be like them and that’s how they become my favourites?

Anyway, enough with that. Most of the characters on my list are either from things I enjoyed as a kid, or things I enjoyed very recently. Like, there’s no middle ground. Either they’re old enough to have always been one of my favourites or they’re a recent obsession lol.

1) Three Kingdoms (Chinese drama) - Xun Yu

He’s my favourite character only based on the 2010 adaptation so I’m not sure if this carries over to other adaptations. Anyway, while I also like a few of the big players of the story (namely Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun), Xun Yu is my ultimate fave. While Cao Cao technically didn’t need his expertise because Cao Cao was plenty smart himself, he served as a sounding board for Cao Cao, so he played a very much behind-the-scenes role. Anyway, I just liked how level-headed he was and how much he stuck to his morals (for which he paid with his life in the end…).

2) DC Comics - Jason Todd

When I first started getting into DC comics, actually Dick Grayson was my favourite character. But over time, I started enjoying Jason’s sense of humour as well as his non-conventional ways. Despite appearing to be the “wild one,” it’s quite interesting to find that Jason actually does have a strict moral code. It’s just one that’s slightly different from that of his family.

3) Day & Night (Chinese drama) - Zhou Xun

I’m still watching this show, but he’s like the stereotypical police boss character in Chinese dramas, complete with moustache, beard, and floppy hair (like Bai Yu in Guardian lol). I like his character for how much he tries. On one hand, he’s advancing his career, doing what he can to close cases, and he knows that Guan Hongfeng is someone he can count on for that. On the other hand, he knows that Guan Hongfeng is someone he needs to keep a close eye on in case anything about his brother comes up. So he does what he can to patch that up too. Also wears leather jackets and is a bit of a hothead/brash one which comes as part of the cocky police detective boss character. I’m down.

4) Nirvana in Fire (Chinese drama) - Xiao Jingyan

Yo, I had a really hard time deciding between Jingyan, Mei Changsu, Consort Jing, and Grand Princess Liyang. In the end, I decided on Jingyan. First, he adheres to his moral code very very very strictly. That’s his thing ™. Second, he loves his family and close friends to bits. That’s his other thing ™. These two things are what guides him through life. Sometimes it makes him even a little naive, i.e. him wanting Mei Changsu to be reinstated as a member of the extended Royal Family, etc. (but Mei Changsu knows that that’s a former life he can’t live up to anymore). But he always has the best intentions in mind and that’s something I can respect.

5) Vikings - Ragnar Lothbrok

To be honest, I stopped watching this show after Ragnar died. He was such an interesting character. He was a fierce warrior, but he also wanted to be a wise ruler. Sometimes he had to use offhanded tactics but I kind of liked that he was willing to think outside the box. He was also a little bit ruthless but I think he did so when he knew that he had to make a decision for his realm. I just thought his character was a combination of a lot of different traits and wasn’t just a two-dimensional character.

6) Sailor Moon - Kino Makoto/Sailor Jupiter

I love that Sailor Moon has so many different characters in its main cast because there’s always a role model for each period of my life. When I was young, I liked Sailor Mercury the most because like her, I was a massive nerd with no friends. Nowadays though I like Sailor Jupiter quite a lot. She’s sometimes labeled as being both super masculine (being a tomboy, being physically strong) as well as super feminine (liking baking and gardening). But that doesn’t mean she has to give up one or the other. Instead, these are just the activities she enjoys doing and that doesn’t mean she needs to be labeled for it. It reminds me that you should just go ahead and like the things you like because that shouldn’t say anything about your character.

7) Hamtaro - Penelope

When I was a kid I thought Penelope was the cutest hamster. For the longest time I didn’t know the yellow thing was a blanket she was wearing and I thought that was just what she was (like, until recently). I still remember that one episode where the hamster clubhouse was flooded in a rain and Penelope ran to Laura’s dog to get help and ultimately saved all the hamsters from drowning. Penelope was the MVP that day.

8) Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - Sonya

It’s kind of surprising to me that my favourite Fire Emblem character is from FEE and not FEA (which was my first FE game). However, I found that with the romance/matchmaking mechanics in FEA and FEF, a lot of the characters turned into gimmicks because it seemed the writers probably ran out of different things to write for their supports with other characters. I found that in FEE, the support conversations were more meaningful because they were limited, and therefore more fleshed out. Anyway, I think Sonya is the coolest because she’s like the cool older sister but also a sympathetic person. Love her

9) Bleach - Yamamoto Genryuusai Shigekuni

I also didn’t expect my favourite Bleach character to be Yamamoto Genryuusai. I probably would have expected my favourite to be Byakuya or Hisagi, you know, my pretty boy husbandos. Or even Soifon or Hiyori, my kickass girls. But there’s something about Captain-Commander that makes him such an epic character. Yes, he is a bit stuck in his old-man ways, but everything he’s done has been to protect Soul Society. The part near the end when he finally goes Bankai is just….chills. Like, when the old man finally uses his old man strength, then you know shit’s going down.

10) Sweet Pool - Sakiyama Youji

To be honest #1, there’s not a lot of characters to choose from here and to be honest #2, I haven’t actually played the game myself. So I’ve really just known his character through the audio CDs (translated), other people’s playthroughs, etc. But I’ve come to like his character. Just the mellow, solemn way that he is despite all the chaotic bullshit going on around him.

(I won’t lie, it took me a really long time to come up with a tenth favourite character lol)

Also this questionnaire has made me want to reread Claymore again, since that manga had a TON of badass characters. I only remember a handful, like Clare, Galatea, Ophelia, etc.
