breaking: girl terrorises others by oversharing (about me page)
Tumblr media
i'm menna, i am 16 years old and from wales!
i now have a side blog (@bushisbisexual) where i post more about my main interests, so this blog will consist of things like my more casual interests and general complaining about day to day life
[film and tv]
currently watching: interview with a vampire s2
i'm a pretty casual enjoyer when it comes to film and tv, i do however collect dvd's because i believe they're simply superior to streaming services
some of my favourite films include: the sound of music (1965), the breakfast club (1985), your name (2016), the mummy (1999), jurassic park (1993), bend it like beckham (2002) and rogue one (2016) and some of my fav tv shows are: frasier (1993), seinfeld (1989), avatar the last airbender (2005), the it crowd (2006) and yellowjackets (2021)
currently playing: the quarry
i am a self proclaimed gamer (not that i'm actually any good at the games i play), i'm a playstation > xbox preacher, my playstation is my BABY
some of my favourite games: the tomb raider games, spiderman and spiderman miles morales (i have yet to play spiderman 2 sadly), life is strange, raft, until dawn, the last of us, stray
[books]
currently reading: the mysterious affair at styles by agatha christie and only the good spy young by ally carter
i am an avid fan of reading and buy far too many books for it to be healthy
i'll read pretty much any genre but some of my favourite genres are sci-fi, horror, fiction and non-fiction, murder mystery and spy fiction!! some of my favourite books/series are jurassic park and carrie (dare i say my favourite books ever), the pjo series, twenty leagues under the sea, the potkin and stubbs series, the gallagher girls series, literally any isaac asimov book and drift by caryl lewis
[graphic novels/comics]
currently reading: the thrilling adventures of lovelace and babbage by sydney padua
this is unfortunately where my true neek emerges because i am lowkey obsessed with comics and or graphic novels depending on your persuasion (if only i had enough space in my bedroom to collect more </3)
a few of the comics i have: the whole 'your name' manga collection, all of kami garcia and gabriel picolo's teen titans, like 99% of the atla comics, a few nightwing comics as well as a suicide squad one, i have a few batman ones, spiderman (peter) and spiderman (miles) as well as spiderwoman (gwen)
[music]
album/song on repeat at the moment: access all areas by flo
i am a PROUD music nerd and will seriously listen to any genre i do not discriminate, i recently got a record player so i'm getting into my dad's vinyl collection at the moment
my fav artists: ethel cain my forever #1, paramore, leon bridges, john coltrane, magdalena bay, kali uchis, the internet, gemini, flo and arctic monkeys! genres i listen to the most: modern rock, r&b, jazz, pop i again dabble in everything, i am a casual kpop enjoyer as well as country music but i wouldn't say they're main genre worthy
[misc.]
for any information on my more niche interests i would go to my side blog where i'm 10x more annoying (@bushisbisexual)
i am unfortunately a nerd at heart as previously mentioned so i am really into biology and physics, marine biology in particular has an unhealthy grip on my brain i also have a journal where i rate albums or ep's so i greatly appreciate any recommendations to listen to!
[tagging]
i am really not a tagging enthusiast but i use annem-one for all posts, anm.lb for liveblogging and annem-onevershutsup for random text posts but that's pretty much it
[asks + dms]
i'm open to any and all asks and dms!! i can't promise i'll answer them because im awful at responding to things but i am desperate for mutuals so!

Still Life 21st jan 2021
History
ANCIENT ART
The earliest known still life paintings were created by the Egyptians in the 15th century BCE. Funerary paintings of food—including crops, fish, and meat—have been discovered in ancient burial sites. The most famous ancient Egyptian still-life was discovered in the Tomb of Menna, a site whose walls were adorned with exceptionally detailed scenes of everyday life.
Tumblr media
Ancient Greeks and Romans also created similar depictions of inanimate objects. While they mostly reserved still life subject matter for mosaics, they also employed it for frescoes, like Still Life with Glass Bowl of Fruit and Vases, a 1st-century wall painting from Pompeii.

MIDDLE AGES
During the Middle Ages, artists adapted the still life for religious purposes. In addition to incorporating symbolic arrangements into depictions of Biblical scenes, they also used them to decorate illuminated manuscripts. Objects like coins, seashells, and bushels of fruit can be found in the borders of these books, including the elaborately decorated Hours of Catherine of Cleves from the 15th century.

RENAISSANCE
Northern Renaissance artists popularized still life iconography with their flower paintings. These pieces typically showcase colorful flora “from different countries and even different continents in one vase and at one moment of blooming” (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and often do not feature other subject matter. These paintings rose to prominence in the early 17th century, when Northern Renaissance artists grew increasingly interested in creating realistic studies of everyday items.

MODERN ART
The still life remained a popular feature in many modern art movements. While Impressionist artists like Pierre-Auguste Renoir dabbled in the genre, it made its major modern debut during the Post-Impressionist period, when Vincent van Gogh adopted flower vases as his subject and Cézanne painted a famous series of still lifes featuring apples, wine bottles, and water jugs resting on topsy-turvy tabletops.
