#Repost @garynader with @make_repost ・・・ Gary Nader Art Centre proudly presents Celebrate Black Latin American Excellence as we honor Black History Month, featuring influential modern and contemporary artists from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Latinos have powerful African ancestors, which is frequently disregarded as part of black history. The presence of Spanish and French-speaking Africans in North America dates back to the mid-16th and 17th century; therefore, Afro-Latinos have been part of U.S. history for centuries, but they have not been recognized and are often not part of Black History Month celebrations. The African and Afro-Latino diaspora has contributed much culturally to American society. Afro-Latino artists had globally impacted the world of art, talking about their ancestors and the influences that Africa and slavery had in the Caribbean. This exhibition is an invitation to research the Afro-Latino cultural presence, recognizing and making their work visible as part of Black History Month's celebration.
