Since I'm a shipper, I see hints of a possible relationship everywhere, and Duncan's team in "The Children of Captain Grant" was no exception. I would like to present to you my headkanon about the characters whom we know only as the strong sailors Wilson and Mulready.
The close relationship of these two did not leave me indifferent, so I thought, why not come up with names for them in order to make it easier to write about them. Of course, you can always leave it as it is, and call them by their last name, as all the other characters do, but I thought that they were still ordinary sailors, and not intellectuals. Wilson even swears by accident in one scene.
So I came up with names for them and I think they fit them:
John Wilson and Tom Mulready.
And it seems to me that Wilson may call Mulready Tommy. That would be nice. :з

Bowral Deny Vikings Finals Berth
One week out from the 2019 IDRU finals series, Bowral and Vikings have given us a peek at what we can expect in the coming weeks. In an intense hard fought match at Eridge Park, the Blacks have put an end to Vikings season with a nail biting 26 – 24 win. With fifteen minutes to go Vikings were holding a 24 – 19 lead with a four try bonus point in the bag, with a win from this match enough to secure them a place in the finals.
In the absorbing final stages of the match there were two sin binnings and a penalty try awarded as Vikings finals run came to an end at the hands of an injury depleted Bowral side. With Shamrocks and University both recording bonus point victories in the rounds other key matches, Vikings have dropped to fifth spot with the Rocks and Uni now set to meet in next Sunday’s Minor Semi Final at Ocean Park.
Bowral began the match in blistering form registering two tries to take a 14 – 0 lead after just ten minutes. The first came at the three minute mark at the end of what was the Blacks first possession of the game. Vikings controlled the early possession taking play deep into Bowral territory until on the back of a relieving penalty the Blacks worked play up field. After five phases of enterprising play Bowral No. 8 Feterika Sage stormed over in the left corner to open the scoring. Fly-Half Lachlan Huntington converted from the touch line for a 7 – 0 lead to Bowral.
Suggesting that it was going to be Bowral’s day, the Blacks scored again minutes later after some more sparkling play. Speedster Henry Yuill added another try to his season tally scoring in the same corner of the field finishing off a short Bowral raid from close range.  Huntington added another conversion for a 14 – 0 Bowral lead after ten minutes.
Within minutes Vikings responded suggesting that Bowral were not going to get things all their own way. Led up front by Lock Jack Hobbs, Vikings put on a well worked try to get on the board. Hobbs made the initial break on the halfway line finding No.8 Mathew Handcock in support who drew the defense sending center Beau Midgley over in the left corner. Kicking into a strong breeze Halfback Tom Sawden couldn’t convert as Bowral led 14 – 5.
The next twenty minutes produced real semi-final style intensity as both sets of forwards ripped into their work. Young Prop Clancy Donnan and Lock Jack Parsons led the charge for Bowral while Hobbs, Handcock and Liam Antrobus did likewise for the Blueys. Antrobus was on the spot to finish off a strong Viking raid down the left to score and put Vikings right back in the match with ten left in the half. Sawden converted the try with a difficult kick into the wind reducing the Bowral lead to 14 – 12 which was in place at the break.
Injuries were a significant factor in the days play. Bowral went into the match without center Justin Madden and Fullback Austin Lockington and in the dying minutes of the first half lost star Fly-Half Huntington to what appeared to be a concerning back injury. Flanker Tim Lewis was also lost to the match at halftime, also with a back problem. Vikings went into the match without rep players Dane Nethery and Cody Roman and also lost center Beau Midgley at halftime with a groin injury. Bowral replacement Fullback, the ageless Daniel Loader, moved to Fly-Half to replace Huntington. Tom Mulready, came on at Fullback with he and Loader playing a significant role in the eventual Bowral win.
An early second half penalty gave Vikings the chance to go on the attack. A series of strong forward plays led by Joel Diggins took Vikings deep into Bowral’s quarter. Diggins was felled just short of the line and from the ensuing play Hobbs forced his way over to score. The try converted by Sawden took Vikings to a lead of 19 – 14 at the forty five minute mark.
The scores were locked at 19 – 19 at the fifty five minute mark when Mulready showed good pace and remarkable strength, as he carried several defenders over the line to score wide on the right.
The intensity of the match never waned as both sides looked to test not only their opponents but the patience of Referee Ethan McIntosh. McIntosh was kept busy throughout the second term dealing with several skirmishes as the pressure on both sides intensified.
The deadlock was finally broken when Blueys winger Daniel Bunten scored on the end of a Vikings backline raid. Bunton got the ball after some strong play from his inside backs but still had plenty to do from thirty meters out. With several cover defenders arriving Bunten showed good evasion skills to score in the north east corner. The try went unconverted but the Blueys had the lead and a much needed bonus point, but still with fifteen on the clock.
The final ten minutes was eventful to say the least. Bowral lost giant prop Todd Pearce to the Bin for a shoulder charge which would see the Blacks one short for the remainder of the match. Soon after Mulready was heading for his second try in the corner when he lost possession as he attempted to ground the ball in the in-goal. Referee McIntosh after a lengthy discussion with his assistant Referee Andrew Lawson, awarded Bowral a penalty try, ruling that Mulready had been subject to a head high tackle causing him to lose the ball over the line.
In a pressure packed final three minutes, Vikings lost Flanker Nick Mastro to the Sin Bin after a series of infringements from the Blueys as they strived to find a way to keep their season alive. Both sides had played themselves to a standstill as the final whistle brought an enthralling contest to an end.
Vikings will be ruing several lost matches earlier in the year as they bow out for 2019. The form the Blueys have shown over the last two weeks would suggest that they could have had a big bearing on the final series had they made the cut. Lock Jack Hobbs completed his club season with another strong game, taking two points in the IDRU Player of the Year Award. He was strongly supported today in the forwards by Diggins, Mathew Handcock, Nick Mastro and Josh Wigmore. Club stalwart Simon Watts played strongly at Open side Flanker in what he assures me will be his final match for the Blueys. Tom Sawden was his usual effervescent self throughout today in another cheeky performance, with the side well served by Fly-Half Luke Raduva and Bunten on the wing.
Jack Parsons was a standout for Bowral taking the three points in the IDRU Player Award. Young Prop Clancy Donan had another fine game showing a level of poise and skill beyond his age. There were strong contributions also in the forwards from Todd Pearce, Tim Lewis and Feterika Sage. The Blacks will be hoping the injury to Huntington is not serious as he showed again today just how integral he is to the success of the team. Sebastian Sell along with Loader and Mulready kept the Vikings defense busy throughout.
Bowral 26 (Feterika Sage 1 try, Henry Yuill 1 try, Tom Mulready 1 try, 1 Penalty Try, Lachlan Huntington 2 goals)
Def Vikings 24 (Beau Midgley 1 try, Liam Antrobus 1 try, Jack Hobbs 1 try, Daniel Bunten 1 try, Tom Sawden 2 goals)
Other Match Results
Campbelltown 24 Def Camden 15
Avondale 48 Def Tech Waratahs 18
University 45 Def Kiama 12
Shamrocks 53 Def Shoalhaven 3
So onto the Semi Finals next week with Avondale up against Bowral in the Major Semi Final at Eridge Park on Saturday, and Shamrocks to play University at Ocean Park on Sunday.
