Specificity

I will be honest, I didn't like Inception. Saw it once, understood it but didn't like it. But I like Tom Hardy and I liked Eames, so I tried to write a little something for him.

The first thing Arthur had said before she met Mister Eames was that he was difficult.

Cobb had corrected by saying that he was very good at his job, like the whole team since he only worked with the best, but that his style and the style of their Extractor were very different.

"Eames can seem playful…"

“He is childish, frivolous and careless.”

"Thank you, Arthur. Let's just say he likes to have fun, but he knows how to be serious when necessary. We've never had any problems with him."

The work went well, apart from the incessant arguments between Arthur and Eames, although it was obvious that this amused the Forger a lot.

The rest of the time he flirted with Y/N. As an Architect, she had to concentrate to maintain a coherent universe during the dream, which was not easy with this smiling man who distracted her whenever he had the opportunity.

Difficult, Arthur had said, she saw quite well what he meant.

But really very talented, and really very charming. Hard to resist. The problem was that Mr. Eames was a gambler. A player. He loved risk and challenge, which is why he continued to tease Arthur whenever he saw him.

As soon as he saw that he wasn't getting what he wanted with Y/N, she immediately became interesting.

She didn't really think the first time they kissed. The dream had been difficult to manage, the mission dangerous, they had almost died and Eames had been injured protecting her.

Her lips were pressed to his before she realized what she was doing, too relieved that he was alive. Immediately he had hugged her, responding to her kiss without worrying about their colleagues.

Cobb had sighed, Arthur had rolled his eyes, Saito had shrugged, Ariadne had smiled and Yusuf had taken notes.

No one blamed her for her reaction, because the whole team had been affected by what had happened. They didn't talk about it again.

Eames didn't mention it again either, but he called her more often. He came to her hotel room as if everything was perfectly normal.

It was hard to remember when he joined her in bed. It seemed impossible to resist Mr. Eames's charms, despite her best efforts.

"I'll take everything you want to give me, darling." he said to her one day, kissing her forehead as she fell asleep against him.

He kept his word. Eames took what she gave, giving nothing in return. He responded to her messages, her calls, he came when she asked him, he received her kisses, her caresses, and he took everything with a big smile.

Y/N didn’t blame him, he didn’t force her to give either. It was a balanced arrangement. She just had to avoid anything complicated with feelings. This was not the domain of Mr. Eames, eternal child.

Normally, she would have acted thoughtfully and carefully, being a very gifted professional at her job. But it wasn’t about work, and Y/N wanted to take some risks when she was with him. A game could be fun, once in a while.

“I want us to get married.” she said very calmly as they dined in a chic restaurant in Paris.

"… I don't have a ring on me right now, but I can get down on one knee with a baguette."

She hadn't thought he would accept. As he was a gambler himself, perhaps he wanted to see how far she would go. So Y/N offered everything.

A grandiose wedding, with lots of guests, two cakes, a princess dress, an indecently expensive wedding ring, with less than a year to prepare everything.

She quickly realized that she had no chance of winning this game, which very quickly became more painful than fun.

"Yusuf made me think that we need several options for the banquet. We need to add dishes."

"Very well dear."

“I mean, what dishes do I add ?”

"Oh, whatever you want. Anything is fine with me."

“And Cobb asks for the gift list.”

“Yes, he asked me too, I told him to check with you.”

Very effective response, always the same. Eames said yes to everything, without ever having to do anything, since the marriage was her idea, and therefore it seemed normal that she would be the one to organize it from start to end, even if he handed her his numerous bank cards as soon as she asked.

In the end, it wasn't their wedding that she was planning, but a wedding in which he would participate, perhaps, if he didn't run away at the last moment.

Y/N wondered if she was going to break down first. And probably she should, because the game was affecting her more than it should, and for a reason that was starting to become quite clear.

After all this time together, and despite all her good intentions, it was obvious that she liked Mr. Eames a little too much.

No, she was in love, that was a certainty when her heart was racing because he whispered her name, when she had trouble breathing when he didn't respond after a mission, and above all because she wanted to to cry every time he didn't invest in the preparations.

Yet he had been very clear from the start. He would take, nothing more.

The wedding was to take place the following week when Y/N turned to him at the end of a mission, trying to hide any emotion.

“I don’t want to marry you.”

He didn't really seem surprised, but still a little disappointed. His only response was to nod, accepting this announcement without putting up the slightest resistance. He took his things and left without giving his destination.

The rest of the team was not as understanding.

Everyone asked her why she was ending such a beautiful story. Even Arthur seemed shocked, as he was the first to criticize Eames.

“You seemed so happy together.” Ariadne sighed in despair. “When Eames looked at you, he had stars in his eyes.”

“It wasn’t serious.”

"Really ? I saw the way you smiled when he called your name. And he said it with such fervor and love."

“There was no love.”

"But…"

"Ariadne, he doesn't love me. He doesn't care. It wasn't a relationship, it wasn't a marriage, just a game that went too far. Please stop."

Y/N took the first flight to Barcelona, to stop thinking about all this and be away from everyone. Unfortunately, their team had the best Pointman and Extractor, who always knew where to find his teammates.

Of course, this normally served no purpose outside of missions, and Arthur never gave out their location if it wasn't necessary.

It was impossible to imagine what Eames could have said or done to get this information, because there was no other way he could have ended up at her hotel room door.

He looked less confident than usual, scratching the back of his neck and grimacing.

"Um… Hello."

“What do you want, Mr. Eames ?”

"Darling, you know I love you right ? Because Ariadne told Arthur, who told Cobb, who told Yusuf, who told me that you thought I didn't love you. I went down on one knee and offered you French bread, it's huge."

"… If you want us to sleep together, it's really not…"

“Darling.” sighed sadly with a terribly sad look. "I think we misunderstood each other. I'll take what you give me, and you can take everything from me."

“I don’t feel like I get much from you.”

"I agreed to marry you ! And be careful, I'm delighted, the happiest day of my life, and I would have accepted all the other requests. Anything to make you happy. That's why I wanted you to choose your dress, the flowers, the meal, to make it the wedding you wanted, because the only thing it ever needs for it to be perfect is for you to be there. I want you, nothing more."

"… I actually think we misunderstood each other."

"If it was just a game, darling… Tell me and I'll go drown my broken heart in a bar. But if you still want this marriage… I'm here."

Some people thought Eames was difficult, but in the end he was a very simple man.

So smart that he was stupid, not thinking it would be necessary to talk about his feelings. To him, it was obvious that he was in love, otherwise why would he spend so much time with Y/N ? Why would he want to hear from her, have her in his arms, have her named after him ? She was as smart as him, if not smarter, she should know that.

Yes, he liked gambling, his life wasn't stable, but when it came to that sort of thing, he was a romantic gentleman. Yusuf knew this. But not the rest of the team.

He hadn't thought that Yusuf didn't talk about his secrets with others, and that the rest of the team had been able to warn her against some of his bad habits, which didn't reflect very well on him.

He seemed casual, but with Y/N, he had been very serious.

"I can take over the entire wedding planning. It will take a long time, I have a lot of ideas. I don't know if you've noticed, darling, but I have imagination. The decoration, the clothes , music… So many possible themes but an unlimited budget. I mean, almost unlimited. I played a bit after the wedding cancellation and you know what they say ? Unlicky at cards, all that. What do you think of an underwater wedding ?"

“Maybe we could slowly resume the relationship before talking about marriage again.” she sneered, as relaxed as at the beginning of their story, when everything was simple.

"We can. I also have lots of date ideas. Are you afraid of heights ? Allergies ? In fact, I already know, I may have hacked your computer and forced Arthur to tell me the rest, but I really want you to tell me about yourself.”

“What if I want to talk about you ?”

“Ah, my love, we are going to be very bored, we will need a lot of alcohol. I know where our first date will be !”

They didn't talk about marriage again right away. No, Eames waited until the third date to propose again with a basket filled with several types of bread.

The team didn't really know how to react when they received wedding invitation again, where the new date had been replaced by hand, with a smiley face. They were happy, because Eames and Y/N seemed happy together, but at the same time they were afraid that the same nightmare would start again.

“If he hurts you, tell me.” Arthur said, one hand resting on his gun.

"Everything will be alright."

"Hmm. And remember he's an idiot, don't hurt him too."

“Oh, Arthur, you care !” cried Eames sarcastically.

"No, you might disappear again and even if I found you, it would jeopardize the mission."

"So charming, mate. Why are you my best man again ?"

“I’m Y/N’s best man.”

“Specificity, right darling ?” Eames chuckled, taking Y/N's hand to kiss it, his eyes shining that screamed that he loved her more than anything, even if he wasn't good at telling it with words.

So Tom Hardy is just really hard to work with huh?

The movie’s camera operator Mark Goellnicht said in the oral history book that there was one “explosive” encounter that really ignited the tension between the performers.

“The call on set was eight o’clock. Charlize got there right at eight o’clock, sat in the War Rig, knowing that Tom’s never going to be there at eight even though they made a special request for him to be there on time,” Goellnicht said. “He was notorious for never being on time in the morning. If the call time was in the morning, forget it — he didn’t show up.”

Hardy allegedly showed up to set three hours late, all while Theron waited in the War Rig with full costume and makeup on. Goellnicht remembered Hardy finally showing up to set and Theron cursing him out for being disrespectful.

It’s unbelievable it was called a feud and George Miller is both siding it when Tom Hardy is clearly at fault.

If Charlize had done what Tom did, she would be blacklisted.

Also, I believe this because Patrick Stewart recalled Hardy doing something similar on Star Trek Nemesis. But back then since he was a rookie actor, he was more standoffish than late, it seemed he only got worse:

“Tom wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level,” Stewart writes. “Never said, ‘Good morning,’ never said, ‘Goodnight,’ and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend…He was by no means hostile — it was just challenging to establish any rapport with him.”

“On the evening Tom wrapped his role, he characteristically left without ceremony or niceties, simply walking out of the door,” Stewart adds.

Hardy is clearly a good actor but he had some things to work on, and hopefully he’s improved from that behavior from Fury Road.

I don’t blame Charlize for being angry with Hardy.

New Year, New Direction (Semi-Hiatus, New Writing Goals & Barry Sloane)

‘Ello my darlings,

Today is the final day of 2023. Isn’t that mad?! Like, I could swear it was January just a few weeks before (before the whole ��stranded in Scotland’ situation, at least).

I’m writing this beforehand because I’ll be working my day/evening job with little time off for a wee while longer. Henceforth, it should come as no surprise I’m hereby announcing a semi-hiatus. I simply do not have the time, energy, nor motivation to write and edit at the moment due to work being quite hectic.

Nevertheless, despite that being said, I do have some plans for 2024. As you perhaps already have guessed from the title and the recent CoD Captain Price & Barry Sloane lovey dovey reblogs, I want to try my hand at writing something new. I’ll still write for Tom and his characters, but I need a challenge. Or, rather, wish to take one on (to keep it polite and proper).

And, honestly, can you blame me for wanting to write for this bear of a man? Can you really?🤨

(I swear I don’t have a thing for DILFs… is the lie I’ll keep telling myself😹)

HOWEVER! How-so-bloody-fucking-ever, I also have plenty of stories for Tom Hardy in the works. Siúil a Rún, a story from Alfie’s POV in a Modern AU for example, which I hope to publish in the foreseeable future. Currently down to only having to edit two more pages!

Look, being a perfectionist with too many hobbies and a small business isn’t ideal, but it’s what we’re working with here.🤷🏻‍♀️😅

Now, this post only pertains to only part of the writing goals I’m setting for myself the coming year. Another is to publish content at least once a month. Maybe try and write a novel. Sixteen-year-old me did it, so let’s see if 25-year-old me can still do it.

You are right, fans shouldn’t compare actors. But when as fans you see other actors having movies that aren’t well received by critics or don’t do much money at the box and You don’t see the media writing essays about how bad they performed, then you see Tom and how everything he fails is overblown, how his play was insanely criticized because his co star was black, when other actors have had black leads and nobody blinked an eye or cared. We as fans see this and feel that is so unfair to Tom. If Tom had been the lead in a movie like Challengers, I can bet on that the media would had written essays calling him a flop because the movie underperformed at the box office. It seems all the actors have a free pass but Tom is not allowed to. Even NWH having the other Spider-Men, instead of becoming something good, help to create this narrative that he is not good enough and Sony should do more movies with the others.

I'm sorry, but I had to stop reading when you claimed that "Challengers" "UNDERperformed" at the box office.

Last I checked, Challengers did pretty well at the box office! Especially considering that it was a film that wasn't based on a franchise, a sequel, and wasn't part of a huge IP and had an original screenplay.

I mean, these smaller films are doing pretty well imo. It probably did BETTER than expected actually.

From what I've seen, most of Tom's films since Spiderman have done pretty well at the box office? I know you're not going to blame the racist hate that Fran got from weirdos online, and put that as "proof" of Tom getting crapped on?

Anything that I've read about Tom's play had nothing but good things to say about Tom's performance! Maybe some didn't care for the austere vibe of the stage set, or didn't really care for some of Jamie's decisions with regards to this play, but I rarely saw anyone criticizing Tom's acting in the play. And if the crowd size is just a snippet of how people felt about this play, then I'd say that most of the general public liked it? 😅

The play sold out in HOURS with just Tom's name being announced Anon. 😒 Idk how anyone can say that this was a "flop".

With regards to Tom's other projects on streaming platforms, I actually recall TDATT getting pretty good reviews? 🤷🏾‍♀️ And with Cherry and TCR, the critics may have had issues with the Russo brothers and their directorial choices, or with Akiva and his writing or his refusal of wanting critics to mention DID in their reviews, but that's not TOM'S fault Anon.

Anon, as long as an actor is an actor, they are GOING to get bad reviews. It's just a fact of life.

Every actor has a "flop" at some point in their career. Even the great Meryl Streep. Yes, even Mr. Timmy Chalamet. 😏

But look, there are plenty of smaller and indie films out here that aren't MEANT to be box office kings. They are just made for the art of film. "Saltburn", "Challengers", "The Bikeriders", "Bones and All", "Kinds of Kindness", etc.

I think fans need to stop looking at Tom's work as always needing to be on the level of Spiderman success and acclaim. Just be happy for Tom that he's doing the types of work that he wants to do! 😊

Whether critics like it or not, oh well!? 🤷🏾‍♀️ I'm sure Tom isn't taking on projects for critic review. Most actors take on roles because the script or the story appeals to them in some way.

oh if you comment on my fic not only will i respond but i also will be planning our spring AND fall wedding, as well as preparing our brand new house and farm by the countryside

no fic of mine will have angst ending bcs i take things too seriously sometimes so angst ending will absolutely traumatize me <3 no angst ending in this household !! (and also bcs like i write fics abt my comfort characters so i want them to always be happy and jolly)

25 of 250: Favorite Films - Mad Max: Fury Road

Not long ago, work colleagues and I got into a discussion about what our favorite films were. Given my categorical nature I could not resist writing down a list and, as a writing challenge, have decided to write 250 word reviews of my favorite 25 films of all-time. Note: these are my favorite films, not what I think are the best films of all time.

Year/Country: 2015, Australia

The first Mad Max film, released in 1979, was a low budget miracle by a doctor-turned-director George Miller who wanted to make a more realistic film about societal collapse. The first film, featuring a shockingly brutal ending, bequeathed one of the great action films of all time - Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. The third film couldn’t match that high and, after that the franchise seemed to be finished. And then, after a 30 year absence, a fourth installment displayed what so many modern action films get wrong.

Miller, handed a budget he could only dream of decades earlier, puts it all to use. His post-apocalyptic Australia is a smash grab of various cultures, recalling Rome, the Vikings, biker culture, and Australian slang (such as “shlanger”). And there’s delicious depth here. Mad Max: Fury Road is a film where the audience can find a new layer every time they watch it. However, that’s not why audiences came to see the film.

The trademark of the Mad Max franchise is the car chases. Miller stages these with as little CGI as possible, hiring circus performers to complete some of the stunts and building the franchise’s famous cars from scratch. This is a major reason why the film is so good. You know these are real people on the screen. You know the stunts are real. Since I am not hosting a quickie challenge this month I decided to try and do something different. This challenge is dedicated to the awesomeness that’s Tom Hardy. I picked a few of my favorite characters of his you can choose to write for - or you can do a rpf. If that sounds like something you might find fun - keep reading :D

Due Date: April 2nd (don’t worry about timezone. As long as it’s the 2nd somewhere it counts.)

Word min: 500 words

Word Max: 5k words

Style: It can be a drabble, one shot or beginning of a series. Do not put in in the middle of an ongoing series since I plan on reading them and don’t want to read 10 parts of something to understand the entry. If you create a series only part one has to be posted before the due date.

You pick a quote (all are something either Tom or one of his characters said) and a pairing off the list. Send me the prompt number along with a backup just in case and your pairing of choice. ASKS ONLY!! REPLIES, REBLOGS AND IMS WILL BE IGNORED!

Blackness overcame Kerensa while nodding her head from one side to the other, recalling the events of her capturer giving an evil, devil-like smile on his face. Grinning and laughing while she screamed at the top of her lungs, begging for him to stop doing his awful and sickening fantasies on her. Kerensa felt the knife lightly caress against her right thigh while he gripped harder around her neck with his right hand.

“Your knight in shining armor will never find you down here princess, so I suggest you keep quiet while I work on you, you understand?” he said as he inserted the tip of the knife onto her flesh making Kerensa groan out in pain.

“Nooo, ahhh!!! No stop please,” she said as her tears streamed down on the sides of her face, while he then plunged the knife deeper inside her thigh, feeling the tip touch muscles and bone.

“Scream all you like darling, scream until your voice will feel sore and weak,” he grimly said as he stuck the knife out of her, feeling the warm blood dripping out from the stab wound he created.

“ALFIE, ALFIE, Please, Help me!” she exclaimed until her captor then placed the knife against her bruised neck making her whimper.

“Alfie, oh Alfie, shut your fucking mouth, you annoying little bitch,” he said, taunting her while leaving a slight cut on her right collarbone.

“Why… why are you doing this to me?” she said in whimpers while the man devil just forwards his brows in confusion at what the woman in front of him asked her.

“Why? Because I love seeing the pain and agony on my helpless lambs, just like you. And speaking of which, your face looks wonderful with all those amazing black bruises. You just became a piece of artwork right in front of me, love, but I think it needs a bit more. Don’t you think so?” he said, returning the knife back to her neck, holding back her breath, expecting the worst to come.

“No, oh god please, have mercy,” she said, feeling the sharpness of the knife on her delicate skin, tightening her eyes shut while breathing fast between her nostrils.

The sick man said nothing, for he then cut gently onto her neck, waking Kerensa with a chilling, howling scream. She looked around the room, embracing her new surroundings and noticing a few things here and there. Kerensa then heard the door bust open on her left side of the room until she let out a small gasp.

“Al-, Alfie? Is it really… you?’ she murmured under her breath, feeling her light brown eyes forming tears once more.

“Oh love, thank god you gave me such a fuckin’ frigh’ their dove. I thought someone came in here and tried to take you away from me again. I would have blasted whosever fuckin’ head it will be without holdin’ any strings back,” Alfie said, sitting beside Kerensa letting out a small chuckle and wrapping her arms around his broad neck, which made him tumble a bit forward.

“Oh, Alfie! Thank goodness it’s you, it’s really you, my love,” he said as she leaned back to look him in his eyes as placed a hard and passionate kiss on those lovely lips of his.

They both shared their warm kiss for a moment until she felt a sharp burn on the side of her stomach.

“Ouch! Oh shit, hmmm.”

“Darlin’, be careful now, yea. Here, love, lay yourself down again. Let me help yous,” he said, helping Kerensa gently lean herself back against the pillow.

She let you a small exhale, trying her best to relax her body while Alfie reached out towards the wooden nightstand next to the bed. He then wet a small white towel on a small bowl with warm water inside, as he wrings out the small material with his hands. Alfie smoothly cleaned out the wounds on her face while Kerensa closed her eyes, feeling the warm, wet towel touch her face. After a moment of short silence between the two, he then placed the towel on the nightstand and placed his hands softly against her cheeks. Looking deep into those lovely brown eyes of hers, he felt some anger build inside of him. While he looked at that once beautiful angel face of hers become destroyed, scared and ruined in front of him. Alfie then leaned forward as he pressed small kisses on her right cheek as he continued to kiss her other cheek.

“I’m sorry, my love, please forgive me,” he said, continuing to kiss and touch her bruises while he gave each one a tender kiss with so much delicacy and care. “How could I let someone so fuckin’ sick and deranged treat you like this? Now that he has suffered and paid for the consequences of his actions, I would let no one touch you ever again, my precious jewel. I swear upon my soul and heart that I’ll be with you now. Wherever you go, I’ll be there with you.”

He then continued to kiss and touch her arms next while Kerensa took in and welcomed his lovely kisses she had been missing for so long. He then softly lifted her white nightgown, exposing her semi-healed right thigh, which he then leaned down and kissed it ever so delicately. Kerensa let out a small gasp, feeling every inch of his lovely lips planted on top of her big scar. She then placed a caressing hand on top of his brown locks, giving her scar one more kiss as he rested his forehead on top of her thigh.

“Alfie, babe, look at me,” Kerensa said, lifting his face with both of her hands, seeing his eyes glistening in the dim light of the candles, knowing he had tears against his dark blue eyes. “I am here now. That’s what matters the most. I never lost faith in you to come to find me and rescue me. Don’t be so rough on yourself, my love, so please let’s embrace this moment, just you and me, yea?”

Alfie then placed his hand against her left bruised cheek, feeling a tear stream down the corner of his right eye. She gave a small smile at the big bearded man as she rested her forehead against his as they planted another kiss against each other’s lips. Wrapping their arms together, embracing their warmth that they have missed for many months.

“I’ve missed you so much, my Kerensa,” he said, leaning back to look into her lovely gaze.

“I also have missed you too, my Alfie Solomons.”

Not long after that, they both were in a deep sleep, their bodies were stitched against each other. Feeling a sense of home and safety as Kerensa was dreaming of a heavenly faraway place where only she and Alfie would share and live peacefully together with no one to bother them.

A lil challenge...

This is inspired by Jenny’s First Kiss Series, go follow and check out their Masterlist! They are honestly so freaking talented! Please keep writing!

These won’t all have to do with Christmas completely but, I am going to try to throw in some holiday-themed ones. This is going to be a challenge for whoever wants to join in. It actually doesn’t have to be Christmas or holiday-themed.

There are exactly seven days left until Christmas day and I have always had a problem with sticking to putting out my writings so I’m going to challenge myself to put out some one-shots. 

I’m going to put the list of prompt starters that I’m going to be using but a heads up I won't write them in that order. I will link them here once they’ve been written.

Hi! I saw you reblogged the ask thing so I wanted to ask a question: i've seen a few stories/headcanons with tom hardy characters as werewolves, do you plan to do more? If i'm not wrong it's Alfie, Leo, Eddie, Eames & Forrest for the time being.... Just wanted to know if you had other characters planned or maybe headcanons for the ones that only have a story, so you can kind of differentiate better between them.

I do have a TH Characters as Werewolves post planned to be written and just came up with some headcanons for werewolf!Ivan Locke (even though I’ve never seen Locke).

I recently watched Jacksepticeye play Elden Ring and, unsurprisingly, I was quite taken with Blaidd. Then I remembered an unfinished story I have I could revamp that’s set in Wales. Now, I’ll explain the finer details of it all in the werewolf canons post.😅

Furthermore, I also have some things up my sleeve for werewolf!Bob Saginowski. Again, you’ll see those in the post.😉

Anywho, I’ll try to differentiate between the characters a wee bit better, but I mostly like exploring the affect and effect of lycanthropy (which I approach as a psychological as well as physical affliction) has on them. Therefore, there’s not a whole lot of difference between them aside from the stages in which they themselves are.

Now, as for a favourite, I have a hard time picking between Alfie and Bob. They’re polar opposites of each other, Bob being the sweet & shy bartender who writes paranormal romance and Alfie being the assertive Alpha of the Camden Pack, a King with a past, who longs for the ideal he and his love held for a single summer. I do admit, though, Werewolf!Forrest is growing on me too.

As my least favourite, I’d say Eddie. However, this is mostly in part to the challenge of having to transform Venom into a Wolf and place them within my ‘lore’. I’m not altogether unhappy with how the story turned out, but it’s not my proudest work.

The other part comes from having to set the story in America and me being more familiar with the UK & Ireland, its accents and dialects (especially Irish English), and cultures. In short, it’s easier for me and often makes more sense for my tales since I tend to draw on Celtic (and Norse) mythology. Also, we need more stories set in that part of the world. Not just London, Margate, or Birmingham. No, I want stories set in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Swansea, Inverness, Belfast, Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Gloucester, York. I could go on and on, but you get what I mean. So, yeah, any story set in America with American characters on this website that’s overrun with Americans is automatically not one of my faves or something I’ll likely continue.

Right, I just remembered I did James Delaney as a werewolf too a wee while ago in a piece called Claddagh. Wasn’t my proudest work either, but that’s because I haven’t properly done a character study on him yet and therefore can’t get a feel for him.

Anyhow, there’ll be plenty more wolfish tales in the future from me because I’ve plenty ideas👍🏻😸

Author’s Note: So this is the first story I’ve written in months. The situation described is something that happened to me a few weeks ago (minus the call from Eddie) as my mental health was acting up. So please heed the warning. This story is not yet betad so I apologize for any and all mistakes. They are all mine.

You pulled the door closed behind you after you entered your flat, the keys landing on the shoe cabinet right in front of you. Making your way into our kitchen you threw the letter you pulled out of your mailbox just before you entered the apartment complex onto the table, while putting your backpack on a chair right next to it.

A sigh left your lips as you rubbed your hand over your face. You felt like crying and you were glad that the day was as good as over now. Having an exam was really taxing especially when you didn’t sleep at all the night before. But it was the last exam at least. A small light at the tunnel.

After hanging your jacket over the chair where your backpack was lying and kicking your boots into the hallway you grabbed the letter again. You already could tell that it was from your dermatologist where you had an appointment for a skin exam two weeks ago. But you couldn’t figure out why they would send you a letter.

You took a short letter out of the envelope and with it came also an invoice over 30$. Apparently your insurance didn’t cover the skin exam so you needed to pay it yourself. It was only 30$ but you broke out in tears nevertheless. Maybe it was the fact that you hadn’t slept the night before or that all the stress from the exam was finally falling away but it had you sobbing nonetheless. Your bad conscience also played a factor in it.

The letter dropped from your hands as you tried to calm yourself down by pressing them to your face. You hated this. It was not normal to break down in tears over an invoice. Even if you were tired as hell and your mind was playing tricks again regarding what happened at the supermarket a few minutes ago.

An elderly women didn’t have enough money to buy all her groceries so she needed to give something back. Since you had your headphones in you didn’t know what was going on just that the women held up the line for quite a while already. After you finally registered what was going on you thought about just buying the groceries for her but you couldn’t make up your might until it was to late. One of the employees took away the milk product while the cashier put every other product behind her.

When it was your turn you bought your groceries yout told the cashier to give you the ones the elderly women left behind too while you kept and eye on her to make sure she wasn’t leaving the supermarket. The cashier thanked you more than ones as you payed.

The elderly women didn’t want to accept the groceries from you or wanted to pay you back at least but you said that it was finde and she should just enjoy them. After that you left the supermarket. All the way home your mind was telling you that you didn’t do enough. You should have bought her all her groceries and not just a few. You should have made up your mind sooner.

All these thoughts were swirling inside your hand. Combined with the stress from the exam and sleep deprivation you couldn’t stop the tears from flowing.

Suddenly your phone began to ring. Still sobbing yout took it out of your backpocket. Eddie was calling you. You swallowed, trying to compose yourself long enough to answer because you knew that he would come over to your apartment. Especially because he knew that you had your last exam today. He probably wanted to celebrate. But Eddie coming over was the last thing you needed right now. Even though you kind of wanted someone to hold you, you couldn’t let him see you like this. No one was allowed to see you like this.

Your phone stopped ringing as you searched for a tissue to blow your nose. After wishing the rest of the tears from your face you called your best friend back.

“Hey there sunshine!”, Eddie greeted you cheerfully. Despite your emotional state you smiled. It was always good to hear his voice.

“Hey Eddie,” you answered.

“How was your exam? I’m sure you aced it, didn’t you?”

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” you replied, tears coming to your eyes again at the thought of your exam. “It was really hard and the question didn’t make sense at all. And I didn’t sleep last night so…”

“Nah! I’m sure you still passed! You were learning so hard!” he dismissed your concern. “But what did you mean you didn’t sleep last night? Not at all?”

“Yeah. My mind wouldn’t shut up.”

“Why didn’t you call me? I would have kept you company? Or come over? My apartment is just next door.”

You closed your eyes at his words. The thought crossed your mind as it got later and later last night. Eddie holding you would have gotten you to sleep right away like always. But at the end you didn’t do it because you didn’t want to burden him with your problems even if it was just not being able to sleep.

“You had a big day today. Maybe next time. How was the interview by the way?” you tried to change the subject.

“Drop the maybe and we’re good,” Eddie said. “And the interview was good. Next time this year I’m going to have a pulitzer. Gonna build it a shrine and everything.”

Despite still feeling awful you still had to laugh at that. “I can see you actually do that,” you chuckled.

“Of course. That award deserve a shrine. I have the design already mapped out.”

“Over confident much?”

“Naturally. There is nothing in this world which is going to top the article I’m going to write about this interview. Just wait and see.”

“Oh I will wait and see, don’t worry. I even promise to make you your favorite if you do win the Pulitzer.”

“I think that award deserve more then a dinner, don’t you think?” Eddie asked. You could hear the grin on his face through the phone which made you chuckle again.

“I’ll make you my famous cake too,” you answered.

“That’s my girl,” he exclaimed, quite pleased with himself. “But seriously this time Y/N. How was your exam?”

You sighed. “I don’t know. I have mixed feelings about it. The one today was so confusing that I wanted to hand it over without trying to answer anything. But I didn’t and I was able to write something to every question. But who knows it that will actually be enough to pass.”

“I’m sure. You need to have 51%, don’t you? I’m sure you got that somehow.”

“Your words in god's ear,” you breathed into the phone as tears sprang into your eyes again. Just thinking about the results of your exam made you anxious again. And your bad councis about the women at the supermarket came back in full force making you sob.

“Y/N?” Eddie asked. “What is it?”

You tried to suppress the tears long enough to answer him that everything was alright but you just couldn’t. The next thing you know was that you bawled your eyes out and told him everything that was burdened you including the supermarket story.

“I just want to be a good person,” you sniffed after you finally calmed yourself down.

““Making the effort to be good is really really important. But being yourself is more important,” he answered in a caring voice. “You need to be true to yourself and the Y/N I know is not selfish or any of the other things yut just told me. She is one of the most caring people I know. I mean look how we met.”

The thought about your first meeting almost a year ago made you laugh, while wiping the rest of the tears from your face.

“There it is,” Eddie said. You could hear the smile in his voice. “Knew that would make you laugh.”

“Thank you,” you breathed, grinning and already feeling better. Letting it all out helped wonders.

“Tell you what,” Eddie began. “How about you order us some pizza, I come over and we’re going to have a lazy night until we both fall asleep to those actions films you like to watch so much?”

“I’d like that,” you answered.

“Great! I take my usual with-”

“-extra cheese.” you interrupted him.

“You just know me too well. See you soon.”

“See you soon.”
