#tom and sabine are sad

I remember years ago when Ladybug the episode airing, there's so many people called Tom and Sabine as a bad parents... for whatever reason, and I was one that keep saying they're a good parents. Now though... it make me wondering if they are really as good as I thought they were if Marinette turned out to be this bad.
I saw some people say the reason why Marinette turned to be this spoiled is because she has one child syndrome, but Adrien is one too and ironically he become a better person than Marinette ever be. And the only one child who become spoiled is Chloé and Felix whose parents is also way too doting that they let the kid do whatever.
Today I found out the term "Helicopter parenting" A helicopter parent (also called a cosseting parent or simply a cosseter) is a term for a parent who is overattentive and overly fearful of a child's experiences and problems, particularly outside the home and at educational institutions. And I feels like its something that Tom would do, especially in Weredad episode. He doesn't want Marinette to feel sad so he will create a situation where she won't be sad, emotion need to be fixed or prevented, which... Track with what Marinette's tend to do.
I know I shouldn't put pshycological aspect into a cartoon, let alone a toddler show, but it just fit. 😅

The thing about discussing psychology when it comes to media isn't really about who the media is for, I think. The issue, as I see it, comes from using stereotypes of different conditions to classify characters in a negative way, regardless of what genre a piece of media belongs to. It's kinda how you would go about actually writing a story with these same themes: don't forget there are real people who deal with these things who won't appreciate being demonized or dehumanized, so treat the topic with compassion.
However, sometimes it can be useful for your self discovery to discuss whether or not a character fits similar categories as you yourself do. It can be a fun topic to discuss when it's done in a compassionate way. Sometimes small details just fit together way too well to not bring it up. Sometimes it can be good to be aware that the writers might be codifying their characters a certain way and what kinds of attitudes that codifying enforces.
Those people calling Marinette's problems "only child syndrome" when we can see her parents and their parenting techniques are definitely barking up the wrong tree. Only children aren't naturally spoiled, they might not be spoiled at all. But helicopter parents are common these days. A lot of modern parents are afraid of screwing up because we're more aware than ever of how parents can traumatize their kids, and that makes them easily veer into overprotective territory. I do agree with you that helicopter/cosseting parenting seems to be a far more fitting descriptor for what’s going on with Marinette.
Miraculous does often genuinely hit the nail on the head on what some types of parenting do to kids, which makes it so absolutely bonkers when they claim that it's not on purpose. It’s more likely that some of it was on purpose, but the writers then changed their minds about what they wanted to say about parenting. Like, Chloé’s issues get built up as being the result of being spoiled and neglected by her father and mother respectively, but then season five claims Chloé‘s just an evil hellspawn who was born that way.
The thing about Adrien is that his disposition also makes sense with his upbringing. His only friend growing up was Chloé, the epitome of a spoiled brat lashing out because she doesn’t get actual care from her parents, and sometimes Félix, another emotionally unskilled kid lashing out at others because he doesn’t have friends. Add to this Adrien’s emotionally immature father, who goes on a year-long magical rampage where he purposefully tramples on everyone else’s emotions in a misguided attempt to get his wife back with no consideration towards the son he also loves and who's actually still alive. Gabriel also doesn’t want to shield Adrien from disappointments, he often causes them and seems to have that attitude that it’s character-building.
But yeah, it makes sense that Adrien is emotionally astute, since his own emotional well-being relied on him developing the skills to work around the social bombs he grew up around. And then the series decided that, actually, Adrien being so attentive, often even to his own detriment, is a good thing because Marinette can benefit from it. Suddenly Gabriel’s behavior was claimed to not be abusive or emotionally damaging to Adrien at all and Félix is a caring cousin and a good guy. Considering there are still some throw-away lines in the post-retool episodes about how harmful Adrien’s fawning is to himself, it really seems like either there’s been a change in course or the writers disagreed on what the takeaway over Adrien’s family situation was supposed to be.
As for Marinette, ‘Weredad’ does, just as you pointed out, confirm Tom as an incredibly overprotective parent. Ive also previously made a post about how Marinette exhibits a lot of signs of being an overly coddled child, which is the same thing as a child with cosseting/helicopter parents. Marinette can’t handle stress, because her parents don’t expect things from her, not wanting to pressure her. The one time her parents asked her to do anything for them in the show was handing off a cake to a customer in ‘Timebreaker’. The rest of the time Marinette seems to almost be a free-range child, with no mention of bedtimes or her parents expecting her to have her homework done. Marinette’s studies barely get mentioned, which is really weird for a middle school teen hero show where the characters spend a lot of time in school and classes. But Marinette’s parents are apparently completely unaware of what Marinette does with her day or what happens at school, outside of the letter/email they received in ‘Simon Says’ about Marinette’s repeated absences. Nobody keeps track of or expects anything from Marinette on a more casual level, so when things actually rely on her performance, she buckles under the pressure.
Marinette also can’t handle setbacks, because her parents refuse to voice out her failures and weaknesses so that she could accept them. In ‘Animaestro’, where Marinette starts badmouthing herself, her parents, instead of dealing with this self-deprecating attitude directly, insist she’s definitely not a klutz and totally gets to be a server. They also completely sideline her reason for wanting to be at the event because of this, which they know is to see Adrien. The instant Marinette’s lip starts wobbling, her parents will lie to make her feel better instead of discussing the situation with her. Basically, they treat her like she’s a toddler incapable of understanding that they have a responsibility to their client to not bring an untrained child to work as a server at a public media event with a lot of celebrities.
This lack of dealing with Marinette’s self-esteem problems is also related to Marinette’s past as a victim of Chloé’s bullying. Marinette’s parents are very unengaged with Marinette’s role as a victim; even when she gets expelled on what they think (rightly so) are false accusations, they leave things to the authorities and just tell Marinette she can work at the bakery. To a child, that preparation for the worst-case-scenario feels like the parents aren’t on her side at all. Of course, we don’t know if the parents are aware of the past bullying Marinette faced; even in ‘Origins’ they merely encouraged her to go to school and bring everyone pastries. In general, Marinette’s parents seem to know very little about her friend group (they think Sabrina is a close friend of Marinette’s in ‘Darkblade’) and social standing in addition to her daily activities, which lends credence to me deeming her a free-range child.
Marinette also can’t handle rejection, because her parents never deny her anything except for a single episode, ‘Simon Says’, where they told her she couldn’t go out with her friends until she stopped skipping class. They were incredibly gentle about this grounding too, and held each other's hands afterwards, like this was an incredibly difficult task they’d just completed, gently telling their teenaged daughter she had to stop skipping class for a week before she could be allowed out whenever she wanted again. Basically, it takes extreme circumstances for Marinette’s parents to give her any boundaries, and they clearly don’t like doing it, which explains perfectly why she has no boundaries when it comes to pursuing her attraction to Adrien.
The problem with all of this is that this should be a good ground for Marinette to grow from. This is a valuable topic to discuss. As I said earlier in the post, overprotective helicopter parents who are afraid that every single disappointment or setback will traumatize their child for life are a thing. As such, this is an important thing to teach to families and especially to kids who wouldn't understand what's going on in their lives unless someone brought it up. But this isn't what the show does, because the head of the showrunners is the most overprotective parent of them all for his fictional creation, so of course he isn't going to criticize himself.

Lukadrinette kids
Because I can. Enjoy these silly little thoughts.
📝 General notes:
Marinette, aka Maman, started out as a very successful and very stressed out fashion designer. She ends up retiring at 35 to take over the bakery and finally learn to chill (it’s going… better than expected).
Luka, aka Papa, is a guitarist with a very niche following and is perfectly happy with that. He’s very present in his kids’ lives and the easiest parent to open up to, because of course he is.
Adrien, aka Dad, is the stay-at-home parent and could not be more stoked. And scared. Someone help them
Emma and Hugo are twins, but look nothing like each other, which baffled Adrien and Felix when they were born; Adrien will never admit it, but he was a tiny bit disappointed they weren’t identical.
To help the kids connect with their heritage, their parents speak French, English and Mandarin Chinese at home. Despite it all, Louis’ first words were a full sentence in Japanese — more on that later.
It’s very common for French kids to have two “middle names” (deuxième et troisième prénoms), so I have planned accordingly. Enjoy!
🐍 Emma
Her full name is Emma Sentibug Alya Dupain-Cheng. Adrien would not have it any other way.
She’s the oldest by five minutes and she takes it very seriously. Too seriously, even.
Emma inherited Gabriel’s grey eyes, which will have no influence on her perception of herself at all, no sir.
Like Marinette, she feels responsible for protecting everyone and everything around her, which is why she was blacklisted from using the Ladybug Miraculous before she reached the tender age of five.
As luck would have it, she ended up with the Snake, which is even worse for her mental health. For maximum dramatic irony, I think I’ll call her superheroine persona Aspik.
Aroace and sad. It’s already hard enough to be aspec as it is, but given the importance romance played in her parents’ lives… you get the point.
🦋 Hugo
Aka Hugo Felix Tom Dupain-Cheng. Yes, Felix cried upon learning his name. A lot.
🎶 Bi bi bi bi BI 🎶
Inherited Mari’s talent for arts and crafts and Adrien’s dramatics. Despite being very similar to them both, he often finds it difficult to talk to them.
Uncle Felix, however, is his absolute favourite adult in the world, and regularly knocks some sense into him.
Adrien and Nino were so excited for their sons to be besties! So naturally they hate each other’s guts
They end up kissing about it, though, so it’s fine.
Butterfly holder. Very purple 💜
🐈⬛ Louis
Aka Louis Nino Jules (after Juleka)
Because twins were a lot to handle, Louis only came along six years later.
When he doesn’t get his way, he turns petulant and grumpy, which makes him Plagg’s absolute favourite. Luka finds it endearing and jokes that they rub off on each other. This stresses Adrien out, though, as he fears it might be an early sign of Gabriel Behaviour.
The truth is that Louis just has these huge feelings that he doesn’t know how to handle… and you know who relates to this? KAGAMI. She’s the only one who can get him to calm down once he starts crying. She will pick him up, he will cling to her jacket and suck on his thumb, and she will carry on with the conversation as if nothing happened.
Originally Very Small, he gets a HUGE growth spurt and ends up built like Tom, which is very unusual for Cat holders.
🐞 Sabine
Aka Sabine Amelie Rose
The surprise baby of the bunch. She looks just like her grandma Sabine!
A total ray of sunshine. Also very gay.
As the youngest and eventual holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, she triggers Mari’s overprotective tendencies the most. Adrien actually had to step up and get her to back off as it was starting to stir up bad memories.
Because Rose was very ill when the twins and Louis were young, she and Juleka didn’t get to watch them as much as she would have liked. They made up for it by spoiling their younger niece beyond reason.
The most musically inclined of the kids. Her love for punk rock and metal clashes hard with her cutesy vibes. Rose couldn’t be prouder. 💖

What are your full thoughts and opinions on Marinette’s extended family members that make full appearances (Gina Bianchi, Wang Cheng, Roland Dupain) as people in their own right as well as in each of their relationships with Sabine, Tom, and Marinette individually as well as a nuclear family group?
Gina Bianchi
I love Gina. I have so many headcanons for this woman. My personal favorite is that she's the one who got Marinette into fashion and taught her how to sew. Look at this woman:
There is no way that she's satisfied by what she can get off the rack and Marinette is really freaking young to have strong sewing talents. Gina is the obvious explanation. I will fight you on this.
Outside of headcanon land, there's not much for me to say. Gina isn't really around a lot and we don't get a clear look at her relationship with her son and his family. There's an interesting implication that Gina was around more when Marinette was young - thus her knowing all of Marinette's favorite childhood things - which gives me the headcanon that Gina may have been free daycare when Marinette was born so that Sabine could work, but that's still a headcanon. Nothing is confirmed in canon. We just know that Gina is a bit of a free spirit who isn't around much.
Wang Cheng
It seems like Sabine's parents are dead and when that happened is anyone's guess. If Sabine was young, then it's possible that Wang raised her? It's impossible to know, I just think that would be an interesting way to explain Sabine being into cooking and better tie her to the bakery as something that she wanted and not just a thing that she does for her husband. Yeah, I'm giving you more headcanons, sorry! I don't know what else to say! We just don't know enough for me to give more meaningful commentary. Wang appears all of twice and we don't see him interact with Sabine or Tom, which is kind of sad when you think about it because he so clearly loves his family! He shut down his freaking restaurant so that he could hang out with Marinette!
Wang: I have worked hard so it will be easier to communicate with you. (Marinette's phone receives a notification; Marinette checks it.) And now I can tell you all about your ancestors, (Marinette's phone shows a picture of Adrien) and show you every family photo! (Marinette looks at the skyscrapers.) Next time, I'll take you to visit the wonders of Shanghai, and teach you all the Chengs' traditional songs!
Give this man more family time, damn it! His treatment in the Shanghai special made me so sad...
Roland Dupain
I think we have to start this one by addressing the elephant in the room: a lot of people view Roland as a racist. I didn't get why at first until someone finally told me that this read comes from his reason for cutting Tom off:
Rolland: Oh! She likes pizza! Oh! But that's not how it's done! You don't put cheese and tomatoes on bread dough! It's just like my son, and his wife, who got it into their heads that adding rice to the dough, would make the inside of the bread lighter! That's not how it's done!
Confession time, my only experience working with rice flour is gluten-free baking, so the fact that this could be read as a slight against Sabine's heritage flew right over my head! I just read it as an old man being upset that you changed the family recipe. I think that is what the writers intended the read to be since Roland also gets mad about pizza and he never seems to have any issues with Sabine or Marinette, but I'm not going to call the racist read wrong. I don't feel like I'm informed enough to make that argument. Instead, I'll just say that the racist read seems to be completely unintentional and so I'm going to approach him as if he isn't supposed to be a racist and this was just the writers being dumb.
Even without the racism, Roland's character is weird. He's supposed to be a set-in-his-ways old man who resists change at all costs, but almost every time he appears he's willing to change his ways, so I think it's just a joke gone wrong?
Then there's the fact that he and Tom get along fine even though - prior to Bakerix - they hadn't spoken in over 15 years, which was certainly a choice... Yet another failure father who is written as being welcome to the family with no problems. Why do the writers keep doing that? It would be so easy to remove the estrangement and just have Marinette need to run over to see her grandfather who insists that the traditional family recipes are the best ones and she's just like, "Okay grandpa, that's nice. How are you?"
It's much more cute and funny if Tom and his family have a generally good relationship with Roland, they just know to not bother making bread when grandpa comes over because he always brings his own insisting that it's the best because he doesn't use stand mixers or something.
If we ignore the estrangement issue and go that route, I actually like the concept of Roland. He's a nice contrast to Gina's free spirit and I like the idea that baking runs in Marinette's family. It's a good way to explain how Tom became a baker and also why he started his own shop. The son wanting to branch out while the father wants to keep things how they've always been is a classic struggle.

Okay so I really wanted to talk about emonette's character plus Shadybug and Clawnoir's relationship......... Well this is gonna be a long one so sorry in advance
Okay let's go!!!
So as we saw in the special emonette said that she was constantly bullied by Chloe(guess she doesn't change in any universe 😔 that damn brat I hate her.... not more than Lila though) and considering how broken she sounded that was not the same bullying that Chloe of this universe did to Mari that shit must've been extreme. However, I donot think that the bullying alone there must've been more aspects which lead her to the path of evil.
Well, while we're at it let's talk about this scene.. God this was so heart wrenching....
When she said that-
"I'm sorry mommy dear, I fine I just- just dropped my sewing kit it's A BIT DAMAGED"
When she said the above line while glancing at her face which reflected on those broken pieces of mirror.... I swear I wanted to cry. Don't you see how poetic this was, while she seemed to be taking about the broken mirror we can clearly see that the one who is broken Is her some one once said
"But that's the irony, broken people, are not fragile....."
So while emonette is completely broken inside she never lets show on her face, no matter how sad, how broken, how miserable she is she keeps moving forward, you wonder why? Well, because it's MARINETTE for crying out loud.... no matter what universe it is our Mari puts on a brave face in front of other, she tends to hide her scars and crying silently not letting others know. Even in the original universe she would have broken much sooner if it was not for Alya finding out her identity. But as emonette said herself she doesn't have loving parents, a best friend and a supportive boyfriend, she was left all alone to suffer without anyone by her side
I still wonder what her wish really was though, knowing her it certainly not power. Could it be something else which she yearns for. Okay so hear me out do you remember what she said to Mari? She said:
"Do you think that it'd be any different from how it is now? Guess what, I don't have your nice little life. The world where I'm from there are no awesome girlfriends to inspire me everyday, no amazing bff, lovable, calm and gentle mom or a boyfriend who doesn't think I'm a total loser...."
These lines broke me though 😭...
So my theory is that in that universe Tom is dead and Sabine is abusive( I totally can't imagine that tho) that would explain why she behaved like that with Sabine and she works in her dad's bakery to keep his name.
Oh well I have a worse on........ Both Tom and Sabine are dead and she was adopted by someome who were very abusive(let's consider that after she graduated junior high she moved out of that school and is probably out of Chloe's grasp) they even intended to sell the bakery, the only belonging of her late parents she was left with. That was when she met supreme and he offered her that in exchange of killing her abusive guardian she will have to work with him. So maybe her wish could be returning to those happy times with her parents without Chloe or any suffering. Well I guess it was a bit far fetched but anywaaaays.... 😅
Okay let's analyse another scene..... The one where she was reading Mari's diary.
What's interesting about her in Mari's room was that she certainly recognised her room and we can see that she does live in the bakery after all. The reason why she acted that way was to save her identity getting exposed to Claw Noir(which I don't think she cares that much about) or she really wanted to find out if this version of her had a better and happier life than hers.while she pretended that she wanted to look for clues, she went through Mari's personal stuff life her computer, her diary and her other things not because she was looking for clues but because she wanted know what kind of life this MARINETTE had.
Look, she was crying while reading that diary. She wants this life.
Just look at her... Looking into the life of a version of herself she wishes she could be. A world where "THERE ARE AMAZING GIRLFRIENDS TO INSPIRE HER EVERYDAY, AN AMAZING BFF, LOVABLE AND CALM MOM AND A BOYFRIEND WHO DOESN'T THINK THAT SHE IS A TOTAL LOOSER".
You see.. behind that evil mask there is a broken girl who longs to be loved. she wants a shoulder to cry on, hands who would embrace her tight when she is crying. She may look like a total badass who doesn't need anyone but no! that's not the case at all.
Aaaand I think she does have someone like that in her life already, and that person is the one and only CLAW NOIR. ........Even if she refuses to acknowledge it.
So, while she was shutted down, abandoned, bullied and absused her whole life and had no one to helf her up, Claw Noir was there for her, even though he is a total dork who teases her all the time.
Well yeah he is hella rude and disrespects her A LOT, it may look like she may never fall for him normally, but lets consider emonette's circumstances...... As much as we know she doesn't have anyone to rely on, no friends and probably no family. She never had anyone to inspire her. In a life like this...... After she got her miraculous and met Claw Noir, she finally had a reason to live, a reason to fight and a person, she could work together with and trust just a little bit yeah not totally cuz well he does let her fall head on..
In Mari's room when she reads the diary and learns about Ladybug and Chat Noir's relationship, their friendship, their partnership. She does look like she wants that too. (Also this may not apply to everyone but sometimes two people who like each other tease each other a lot....... )
They may fight eachother and not consider each other as partners, but they do make an amazing team. They may not be partners but they've got eachother's back at time of need. Just how Shadybug needs Clawnoir's strength while fighting and how Clawnoir relies on Shadybug's plans.
Also this scene...... While you can say that he is acting this way because he now knows that she is Marinette, the girl he likes.., but we know he is Adrien afterall he may care about Shadybug deep down without realising it and with him now knowing who she really is has realised it.
Just look at him he looks sad when he sees her cry too. He may act like he doesn't care but he actually does. He is like "I am the only one who can hurt her, anyone else who dares to do that must pay....." .
And the scene where she opens up to Mari was just so emotional, I literally started crying. There was pain, sorrow and grief in her eyes. She was suffering and was jealous of Mari,'cuz she thought that she had everything for granted, she thought that she never knew what suffering was like. Her words were so sad. But after Mari made her feel that they really are alike and changed her for better I felt so happy......
And after that when she met (now improved) Claw Noir they felt like they were more to each other and I loved it..
All I want now is a ShadyClaw series.. we need to know what happened after that.... And before they landed in the multiverse.
Well aren't they the cutest.
I wish they become a couple in future.....
Oh well that was a long one.....
Well I had it in mind for quite a long time but couldn't write it because I have exams coming 😭. But wanted to finish it before I forgot it. So here I am. I hope y'all liked it though.
Okay let's end it with a quote:.
“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
I hope this becomes true for our beloved emoadrinette.

Shadybug/ClawNoir supporting character Headcanons
Jagged Stone? More like Jared Smith. He wanted to be a rockin musician, but his type of music is banned by the Supreme so his career never took off. Instead, he ended up marrying his girlfriend, Nannette Couffaine, after accidentally knocking her up with twins, released his pet crocodile into the Seine, got an apartment, and works a regular job that he HATES. But, he secretly still tries to record music and sells it on the black market where it has become somewhat popular in the indie underground, but if he were caught he would go to prison for sure. It’s not a happy marriage but he does what he has to. His kids last names are hyphenated Couffaine-Smith.
No houseboat, and without Royalties from music labels, neither Juleka or Luka could afford to go to Francois Dupont
Penny works as an assistant for Bob Roth and HATES IT. The man is a sexist slave driver, but this business is brutal.
Nadja Chamack is not a news anchor. You can’t be a single mother AND have a career that takes up so much of your time. As a result, Marinette has never had to babysit Manon.
Lila wants to challenge Chloe’s position as queen of the school, but there are no lies about charity work, only lies of what powerful and famous connections she has.
Adrien is not interested in being friendly with Lila, and definitely not going to help her with schoolwork. But he is still the ultimate trophy and key to winning popularity in Lila’s eyes, so she is determined to “win him over”, even though he finds her almost as annoying as Chloe, but Chloe he is stuck with due to her mom’s working relationship with his dad.
Gabriel doesn’t trust Lila one bit.
The sad and negative emotions he is forced to sense due to the power of the Butterfly brooch cause him distress, and he often has to excuse himself due to “headaches” from overworking, as a creative’s work is never done… But he is always listening for the emotions of people crying out for justice, for help, for people who wish they had the power to help.
Andre Glacier is still the Sweetheart’s ice-cream maker, but Sweetheart’s ice-cream is just a special menu item that you can request. Otherwise he has a scheduled route and serves the ice-cream that customers ask for.
Alya’s dad wishes the zoo could focus more on animal enrichment and larger enclosures but they don’t have the budget for such “unnecessary extravagences”.
Mr. Haprel hopes to make it as a famous Mime one day so he can be rich enough to afford to send his daughter, Mylene, to the school he works at as a janitor.
Everyone avoids Ivan.
Thomas Astruc never made it as a famous director, rather, the Supreme favored his University Rival, Andre Bourgeois, who also owns the Le Grande Paris Hotel.
Gina and Roland Dupain are not divorced/separated per say… Gina was sent to prison for civil disobedience. That’s why Tom is a doormat and just goes along with whatever discipline Sabine decides on because he doesn’t want his precious little girl to end up a criminal like her grandmother.
Sabine does not teach an inkpainting class on the weekend or practice tai chi or feng shui.
The walls of Marinette’s home are not pink, they are a boring beige that she hates.
The Agreste Manor is not a sterile, black and white modern decor dungeon. It is a prism of color, function, form, beauty and nature with nods to antiquity and the whimsical. Adrien HATES it. All color and light left this world when his mother died. The art in his house mocks his pain.
There is no school blog for Nathaniel to post his art on… But Marc ended up in that class instead of Marinette. (So did Mireille) He’s still too shy to admit he’s a writer. And even more shy to admit he has a crush on Nathaniel, so all he can do is watch the boy quietly. Rose thinks it’s a romantic tragedy and wants to play matchmaker. Alex thinks it’d be a disaster waiting to happen.
There is no Prince Ali who gives toys to sick kids in hospitals.
There is nothing as frivolous as videogame tournaments, so Max devotes all his spare time to his hobby of robotics and developing an AI… but developing an artificial intelligence is frowned upon. Luckily, Alya can keep a secret… that is, if Max is willing to spare some of his time to helping her havkninto the dark web to research conspiracy theories.
Wayhem is obseesed with Adrien, who can’t stand crazy fanatics and won’t lose any sleep if the Gorilla tackles the scrawny boy to the ground.
After much convincing, bullsh**ing, and bribes, Gabriel is able to host his derby hat design competition at Francois Dupont, (and hopefully, modelling his classmate’s creations will be a bonding point for Adrien to make a new friend) Rose sees it as an opportunity to tries to get Marc and Nathaniel to work with her to create a hat, hoping sparks will fly between them.
Even if Marinette WANTED to enter a stupid contest involving that spoiled, stuck-up Agreste boy, which she DOESN’T, her mother won’t allow it because sewing and doodling outfits is a distraction from her schoolwork.
Chloe still cheats.
But Shadybug discreetly sabotages the fashion show the winning hat is supposed to feature in.
Nathalie never became Gabriel’s assistant or even acquaintance. Instead, she is in charge of the department of the Louvre that archives and locks away all “banned” art and artifacts (aka anything related to Miraculous holders)
Alex thinks she’s creepy and hates how she coldly bosses around her dad.
Audrey is the same as ever, with the exception that she recognizes that her younger daughter Zoe has some talent, and wants Andre to find a movie part for her to play, and ignores Chloe’s bitter jealousy which causes her to lash out at others even nastier than in Ladybug and Cat Noir’s universe.
Nino is treated rudely and ignored by Adrien. Adrien would never agree to play a role in Nino’s movie and even accuses Nino of trying to use Adrien’s celebrity status to give himself an unfair advantage in the student movie competition.
Adrien doesn’t have time for stupid group projects or after school activities. But not because he has a full schedule since this Universe’s Gabriel is a decent father who does not demand perfection and give a 14 year old a burdensome schedule… It’s because outside of fencing and modeling, Adrien plans to spend his time planning out which sections of the city he’s going to take his anger out on that night.
Gabriel never forgot his roots as the son of a fry-cook, and occasionally tries to cook comfort food (NOT PANCAKES) for Adrien, who insists he’s not hungry or that junk is bad for his skin/weight, which has Gavriel worried about Adrien developing body dysphoria and eating disorders… These worries are put to rest when he finds out Adrien has suddenly developed a sweet tooth for baked goods. Therefore he has no qualms about his son frequenting the local bakery so often because a growing boy needs to eat and a treat is good for the spirit.
He wishes he could be more honest with Adrien, but he knows that it would destroy his son if he ever found out that the sickness that took his mother’s life was caused by his creation… He’s also not sure what kind of trauma Adrien would have to the fact he’s not human.
Gabriel also doesn’t want Adrien in danger. Gabriel wants to create a better world for his son to live in, a world where he and everyone else can be free! Where people can throve without stepping over others, and the poor don’t have to suffer. Where people have rights to love freely and express opinions without fear. A world where people help one another.
Gabriel would never use the rings to control Adrien, instead, he keeps them locked away in a safe, and plans to give them to Adrien someday when he is an adult and less likrly to misplace them because if they were to fall into the wrong hands, Gabriel shudders to think of what would become of Adrien.
Audrey still has a low key crush on Gabriel which makes him cringe but he still acts polite to keep up working relations, and he also pities his friend Andre, trapped in a one-sided marriage and bullied by his daughter and his wife.

Episode 12: The Witch
Simon Says Rewrite
Alya's phone buzzes with Nino's reply. She glances down, eyes narrowing at the screen.
Nino: We were drunk
Alya: What is wrong with you
A pause. Alya waits, her jaw clenched as the typing bubble flickers on and off. Finally, another message comes through.
Nino: I'm really sorry. I didn't mean it
Alya: Didn't mean it? You did it
Nino: I swear. I don't even know what I was thinking. I like you
Her fingers tremble as she types her response.
Alya: You're a bitch
She snaps her phone shut, her stomach churning, unwilling to see what else he has to say.
Meanwhile, in her room, Marinette lies tangled in the sheets, lost in a restless sleep until her mom, Sabine, flings open the door. "Marinette!" she calls, her tone sharper than usual. "It's almost noon—wake up!"
But Marinette doesn't stir. She's caught in a wave of panic, her chest tightening, tears streaming down her face. She feels trapped, her breaths coming in short, ragged gasps, as if she were choking. Her mother's voice pierces the fog, but Sabine quickly senses something's wrong.
"Marinette?" Concern turns to alarm as Sabine climbs onto the bed, gently shaking her daughter's shoulders. Seeing Marinette's face, wet with tears, Sabine's own heart aches. But when she sees the blood dripping from the cuts covering her arms, she erupts into sobs. She pulls Marinette into her arms, her voice breaking. "Oh, Marinette—"
She begins calling for Tom, her voice rising. "Tom! Call an ambulance!”
But in Marinette's mind, her mother's face blurs, replaced by a vision of Emilie. Somehow, this softens her panic, grounding her. She manages to croak out, "Don't... call. I'm okay."
The vision fades, and Marinette opens her eyes to see her mother's tear-streaked face. "I'm fine," Marinette whispers, as the last of her fear ebbs away. "Please... don't call anyone."
Sabine's voice is sharp, trembling with a blend of fury and desperation. "Why did you do this, Marinette?!"
Marinette recoils, her voice breaking as she protests, "I didn't! I swear, I didn't do this!"
But her mother's gaze holds only heartbreak and disbelief. "Why would you do this to yourself?!"
"I didn't..." Marinette's words falter as tears blur her vision. She feels as though her mother's love is slipping away, the accusation slicing deeper than she can bear. Sabine cradles her daughter in her arms, murmuring through sobs, "Oh, my baby girl... why?"
Marinette breaks down completely, her own cries mingling with her mother's. She feels overwhelmed, drowning in confusion and guilt that isn’t even hers. And at that moment, somewhere else in Paris, Hawk Moth feels the surge of her sadness like a beacon, drawing him to her despair. But just as his Akuma prepares to fly away, a shattering crash echoes through his lair. A figure steps through the broken glass—a twisted witch, eyes gleaming with malice as she seizes control of his butterflies, turning them upon him in a flurry of dark wings.
Back in Marinette's room, Sabine pulls away, searching her daughter's face. "What did you use, Marinette?"
Marinette hesitates, paralyzed with shame. When her mother presses again, she swallows hard, summoning a small knife. Sabine gasps, yanking it from her hand.
"I'm sorry," Marinette whispers. "I won't do it again."
Sabine shakes her head, holding Marinette tightly. "No, don't be sorry. Just... please, know how much I love you."
Later, Marinette sits alone in her room, cradled in the silence. Emilie appears beside her, a quiet presence in the shadows. Marinette's voice is barely a whisper. "I didn't do it. I swear."
"I know," Emilie replies gently, a strange sadness in her eyes.
"What's happening to me?" Marinette's voice trembles.
Emilie's gaze softens. "I'm here with you, Marinette."
Meanwhile, in the living room, Sabine and Tom sit in tense silence. Tom turns to his wife. "Did you tell her about her attendance?"
"Of course not," Sabine murmurs. "We'll talk to her about it... when she's ready."
Across the city, Adrien lies in bed, scrolling absently on his phone. Suddenly, a dark shadow leaps upon him—Plagg snarls, feral, and Adrien struggles under his unexpected attack. Then, a figure emerges from the darkness. The witch steps forward, standing beside Plagg. She gazes at Adrien with cold, assessing eyes, and he can only stare back, trapped between terror and confusion.
"I know what you are," she whispers, her fingers tracing the edge of his jaw.
Adrien's voice shakes. "Who are you?"
She smiles, a cruel glint in her eyes. "Ask the demon who let me in."
His gaze flickers to Plagg, realization dawning. "You mean... him?"
The witch's hand lingers on his face, her expression growing almost tender, but there's venom in her words. "You're beautiful. Perfect, even... but too perfect. For your father, for your mother... but not for me." She sighs, mocking pity in her voice. "I'm sorry your father doesn't love you."
Adrien recoils, but she holds him fast, savoring his shock. "I've taken out the holder of the Butterfly Miraculous, so he won't be a problem. Now, all I need is to finish with your parents."
Adrien's mind reels. "Who... who has the Butterfly Miraculous?"
A cold smile spreads across her face. "Can't say."
The witch turns to leave, but Adrien speaks again, his voice raw. "You... you won't find my mother. She's gone."
"Is she?" The witch narrows her eyes. "She should have shown up when I arrived here. I sense... nothing."
Adrien hesitates, his voice a murmur. "She's gone completely."
"Are you telling me you haven't seen her?"
"I have..." he falters. "Last night."
The witch's eyes narrow. "Where?"
"Here," he admits, his gaze unfocused. "In my father's office."
She closes her eyes, using her powers to search his father's office. Her brows furrow. "There's nothing there. What was in that room?"
Adrien hesitates. "There was... a girl."
The witch's eyes gleam. "Her name?"
"Marinette."
"That's all I need."
With a dark smile, she vanishes from the room, leaving Adrien alone, the weight of his own secrets pressing down on him.
The witch descends upon Marinette's house, her arrival marked by the shattering of glass. Marinette bolts upright as the witch stalks into her room, calling Emilie's name with chilling intensity. Emilie steps forward to face the intruder.
The witch sneers. "Why are you here, Emilie? Why aren't you with Gabriel? Or your son?"
Emilie's gaze is steady, defiant. "I have something to do here. You'd never understand."
The witch scoffs. "Understand? I watched you try to protect your son from Gabriel, only to leave him alone, tormented by demons, abandoned by his own mother. And for what?"
Emilie's voice is calm and resolute. "Stay until the end, and maybe you'll see why."
Adrien confronts Plagg in his room, rage and betrayal flashing in his eyes. "What's wrong with you, Plagg? Why did you let her in?"
Plagg looks away, his voice strangely detached. "When someone offers you something... sometimes, you don't say no."
Adrien shakes his head, frustrated. "What did she offer you?"
"That's none of your business," Plagg replies flatly.
Adrien's fists clench. "Why is she after my parents?"
Plagg shrugs. "She's angry. Wants revenge."
"For what?"
"An injustice," Plagg says, as if it were obvious.
Adrien's silent, his resentment simmering. "Is Marinette in danger?"
Plagg's answer is simple. "Obviously."
A chill runs down Adrien's spine. "What does she want with her?"
"To find your mother."
"But my mom's gone!"
Plagg's eyes meet his. "And yet... she's here. You know that, don't you?"
Marinette stands in her room, a feeling of dread coiling in her stomach. She knows Gabriel Agreste's in danger, and as Ladybug, she flies to his mansion. She slips through a window, setting off alarms, and Gabriel finds her in the foyer, his gaze dark and unreadable.
She tries to warn him, but then Adrien bursts from his room, fury etched on his face as he confronts his father. "What is wrong with you?! What have you done?!"
Gabriel's face contorts with rage. "Adrien, go back to your room."
"No!" Adrien's voice rises, his desperation spilling over. "Answer me! Do you know what you've done to me? Do you know what you've done? I can't go to sleep for a second, can't go a day without seeing some kind of monster in the corner of a room, and for what? Because you make deals with the devil? You crazy—"
Gabriel's hand shoots out, striking Adrien. Ladybug gasps, moving to intervene, but at that moment, Emilie takes her place. She steps between them, her voice low but commanding. "Adrien, go to your room. I'll be there soon."
Gabriel's gaze softens as he looks at her, a glimmer of sorrow in his eyes. "Is it really you?"
Emilie nods. "Yes, I'm here."
He reaches for her, breaking down as he holds her. "I've missed you."
Emilie's face hardens, and she leans close. "There aren't enough words to tell you how much I hate you. You're a parasite, Gabriel. You ruined me. And I’m stuck here and it's all your fault. But when I finally leave, I'll destroy you." She steps back, leaving him in awe.
Emilie returns to Adrien's room just as monsters shatter the window, filling the room with shadows.
Ladybug fights alongside Cat Noir, but fear roots her in place. The witch's demons overwhelm her, and Ladybug crumples to the ground, trembling.
In the darkness, Ladybug sees Emilie, who then fades into Tikki. Ladybug cries. "I'm so sorry, Tikki! I pushed you away—I was wrong!"
Tikki's eyes are filled with gentle understanding. "Marinette, you know what you need to do."
Ladybug takes a shaky breath, determination hardening her features. She feels a surge of strength return to her, her injuries fading as she stands tall, her gaze steely with resolve. She strides toward the witch, her steps echoing with purpose. Without hesitation, she cuts her palm, the pain sharpening her focus, and presses her hand to the witch's forehead, then to her chest. As her blood marks the witch, a shudder runs through the air, freezing the demons she unleashed, locking them in place like statues scattered across the Agreste mansion and grounds.
Ladybug summons a sleek rifle, and without looking back, sets off through the house, hunting each demon one by one. She moves like a shadow, silent and swift, her footsteps a quiet rhythm in the night as she finds each of them—some lurking in the gardens, others crouching in darkened hallways—and brings them down, her aim precise, her determination unwavering. Finally, she returns to the mansion's heart, where Cat Noir lies motionless, the last of the witch's creatures.
Ladybug kneels beside him, her hands glowing with the effort to heal him. As she concentrates, Gabriel Agreste appears, sinking to his knees beside her. He reaches out, his hand trembling, but Ladybug's gaze hardens. She intercepts his hand, pulling it back with a quiet finality. Gabriel catches the warning in her eyes, the unspoken distrust that flickers between them, and withdraws.
When Cat Noir's eyes open, dazed and still weak, Ladybug turns to Gabriel. "There's something wrong here," she says quietly. "I can't fix it now, but I promise I'll return. I'll rid this place of everything evil that's haunting it.”
With that, Ladybug helps Cat Noir to his feet, and together, they slip away, leaving Gabriel in the empty stillness of his broken home.
Outside, as they make their way back, Cat Noir glances at Ladybug. "The witch... she knows who the holder of the Butterfly Miraculous is. And she said... she defeated him."
Ladybug absorbs this in silence, her mind whirring with questions. They part ways, both shaken but resolute, and Adrien soon finds himself alone in his room, his thoughts swirling.
Sitting on his bed with Plagg standing nearby, Adrien stares into the darkness, puzzling over what just happened. "Why did Ladybug turn into my mom?"
Plagg's eyes narrow thoughtfully. "What do you mean?"
"Ladybug was there with my father, and then... it was like my mom took her place."
Plagg gives him a meaningful look. "I think it's kinda obvious."
Adrien frowns, searching for clarity. "What?"
Plagg's tone turns serious. "Think about what you told that witch. Last night, when you saw your mom... who was there with you?"
The pieces fall into place, the truth dawning on him. "Marinette..."
Plagg nods. "Your mom's spirit is here, Adrien."
Adrien freezes, the realization hitting him in a wave. "In... Marinette?"
He's silent, then whispers as the pieces lock together in his mind, "...is Marinette Ladybug?"
Plagg gives him a sly smile. "You're finally getting it."
Adrien looks away, letting the idea sink in. "Yeah... I think I see it now."
Later, his fingers trail over the edges of old photographs of his mother. He stares at her face, a bittersweet ache filling him as he wonders what she would say if she were here. Lost in thought, he barely registers the sharp click of the door opening behind him.
Gabriel's cold voice cuts through the silence. "Adrien."
Adrien looks up, startled. Gabriel's eyes narrow, flashing with anger. "You think you can disrespect me? You're nothing without me, Adrien. Nothing."
Adrien's face hardens, the weight of every unspoken word pressing down on him. Gabriel's gaze drops, catching the glint of the ring on Adrien's finger. "What's that?" he demands, his tone laced with suspicion. "Where did you get that ring?"
Adrien hesitates, his jaw clenching as he holds his father's gaze. "Shut up," he mutters, his voice low and defiant.
The punch comes so fast, Adrien barely has time to brace for it. The pain spreads across his cheek, leaving him silent as Gabriel storms out, slamming the door shut behind him. Adrien remains frozen, his heart pounding, the weight of his father's words echoing in his mind.
Marinette sits on the edge of her bed, her hands clenched, her expression fierce as she speaks to Tikki. "I know why this is happening, Tikki. I understand now.”
Tikki hovers close, her face filled with worry and hope. "Why, Marinette?"
Marinette's gaze hardens, her purpose clear. "My purpose is to save them—Adrien and Gabriel. From all the evil that's taken over their lives. I have to stop it. No one else can."

Reverse AU: How did Tom's death affected Sabine anyways? (So according to my headcanon from my previous asks said, Tom is dead in the Reverse world).
Sorry I thought I answered this: Tom being dead is, well, sad? But when did he die? How? What were other circumstances? There's a lot of variables in the air.
I enjoy going for maximum possibilities so I don't kill him off. Once he's dead there's nothing more to do with him. Instead, they're divorced, or even just separated(for years) Roland finally got to Tom. He eventually picked blood over love.
Now how does THAT affect Sabine? Her husband isn't dead, he's still *out there* he *left* because a petty twisted little man browbeat him until he could take no more. And... he caved! he caved and he left! He even went so far as to leave the bakery behind! Did he really hate her that much? Is he that much of a coward? Where is he? What is he doing? *Is* he still alive? She doesn't know!
What does she tell Marinette? Marinette who is *half him*. Did she see Tom's smile in little Marinette's? Is she pulling away because she's caged in a life she never wanted, running a bakery, and she can't dump all that on her daughter? Or is she bitter, is Marinette a daily reminder that she has come to despise?
Reverse!AU Angssssstttt

Who is the person that stole Sabine's hearth from Tom? And Tom have someone too? Or he'll be alone? And what Marinette think about it?
(wow it's only been a month)
well, Sabine didn't know Sofia when she and Tom split up so there wasn't any stealing involved xd
I wanted to say that he's gonna be alone but
idk???? I'm going to think about it
Marinette doesn't know at first. They split up when she was around,,, 9 and they never told her (or anyone, only Gina knows). She doesn't even know that Tom sleeps in the guest room, Gina doesn't come as often so the bedroom isn't used as far as Marinette knows.
But when they do tell her, she's kinda already been suspecting it. Based on what she's seen (their own behavior around each other, other parents/couples and also just how Sofia and Sabine interacted), she kinda saw it coming. It was sad that it was actually true and not just a phase, but it's not like she can do anything about it. Staying in a relationship you don't want to be in just for the sake of others is gonna do more harm than good

I bet Sabine-2 left because Roland is a racist and Tom didn’t have her back in this world. So she gave birth and dipped.
Dito that’s so sad

OTP
Nathanette ships: I just love Nathanette no matter what form it comes in.
AliRose: He should have returned past season 1, the Royal and an average girl.
Love
Love is always to strong a word, and also there is no ship strong enough to that word that I would consider close to an OTP but not quite it, sorry guys
A strong word
Like
Adrigami: rivals to lovers, respect dynamic.
LukAdrien: I’ve seen fanart, they’re cool.
MariGami: IRL, this would probably never happen and there doesn't seem to be any girl crushes for Mari. But if there were any girl rivals Mari didn't hate or wasn't evil, it would be Kagami.
JuLila: Mainly got into this because of @gowonielovely , no questions asked.
MariKim: Got into because of artviavivi aka @chubearr , I would love to see more of them despite their canon story sucking alot, I love any fanart or story, that she makes of them.
Good
Ninonette: I would have liked to see them date…
LadyBee and ChLady: Chloe falls in love with the masked hero, and Marinette is usually annoyed with her shit, but comes to respect her when she gives Chloe the chance to be a hero.
ChloDrien: Childhood friends to lovers, can you tell I have a thing? I think as of now they'll never be together and maybe Adrien is a bit disappointed that his friend he's known since childhood stopped being his friend because she hates one of his other friends that 1 has a crush on him and 2 because she will never be given the offered another chance to change because of the creators wanted a character who represented other people they knew and wanted to implement into a cartoon for children, which I think they should try to let kids who relate to these characters and still have a chance to grow and change, will never have the inspiration from the WORST of characters to be inspired to. Just a bit bitter lol.
Liladrien: Maybe I want to see Marinette suffer in romance for a bit. Also Nice Guy MC x Mean Girl, please crush my IRL dreams lol.
Felix x Bridgette: they have this cute dynamic.
Don’t Mind
LukLoe: I think there was only one next gen with my OTP Nathanette and Adrigami, I liked the design of their kids, and I’ve seen some sad cosplays of them on TikTok back then.
Tikki x Marinette: ok
JuleRose: They’re cute, but maybe I would have liked to see how they met and their impact on each other
Nathaniel x Adrien: Maybe a rivals to lovers au
Adrien x Alya: could have been interesting if they figured out they were Ninonette’s wingmen.
Kim x Ondine: They’re ok I feel like they needed to pair him up with someone so people would ship Marikim less.
Liluka: Maybe it’s because Luka’s not a main character and this would feel more pair the sparesies
Nathaniel x Luka: might be a great dynamic
Lila x Marinette: Could have happened like Lumity.
Ivan x Mylene: ok
Adrien x Plagg: ok
Tom x Sabine: Awesome parents
Nino x Adrien: Best bros
Nathaniel x Alix: Could be an interesting dynamic
Lukanette: Nice guy x nice girl, but I feel like it was to replace Nathanette
Ladybug x Luka: ok
KiMax: I guess I’d prefer over Kim x Ondine
JuleRosAli: Polycule, maybe we need more of them
Ninogami: Artviavivi has a cute dynamic and cute art between them.
AdriGami: I just do, rivals to lovers amiright.
Eh
LAdrien: The most tolerable ship of the Canon Lovesquare. At least in this form it's obvious how much they like and admire each other. Had this never existed or they never found out their alternate identities, or both, would they still be into each other?
JAdrien/AdrEka: I'm not sure Juleka swings that way.
AlyNino: Ok. What if they never got together through the wingman episode, alternate scenarios?
LuKagami: Like I said Pair the Spares trope, not that into it, especially when they are basically treated like plot devices by shows, theories, films, that have the main couple, especially when they are the main focus main characters main couple, that have a will they won't they plot that makes them worst as people and probably people you don't like in real life doing the same things they do. That is one trope I hate.
MarcAniel: I guess they stopped having Nathaniel have a crush on her and felt he needed a partner if he wasn't with Ladybug or Marinette, he HAD to be with someone. I don't know, I really don't like how Marc wasn't introduced, like maybe if he wasn't introduced as someone who really wanted to work with him and felt really bad just because Nathaniel didn't feel like working with him, or just wasn't introduced working with Nathaniel at all, it would have worked, like maybe having a similar hobby that didn't relate to what they're mainly known for characterwise, I would have liked it more. It's just really hard for me to like.
LAbrina: Well don't like it so much anymore since that one episode I know she bullied Sabrina for and Sabrina tricked her into a confession, I just had hope before that episode and it made this Tierlist, It would go down a tier now.
FeLila: Villains(?) in love lol, not all that into it.
ChloBrina: The show doesn't seem to want Chloe to change which will probably lead her into downward spiral for her character, now she's completely alone. For now I want her character to be the same, but more uptight and closed off, not even blinking at the sight of a new friendship because NO ONE in the show wants to like her and even if she moves away she can't move on, but she still has dreams, wanting to be someone great and wanting love, and has finally learned her lesson. This would be a great idea for a spinoff series just for her
ChlAli: One of the Royal's and family of a democratic country's president's daughter, I don't really ship it, but like what if Chloe's dad was upset that her daughter didn't have anymore friendships in her life in Paris because everyone she's known has abandoned her and sends her to Prince Ali's country to get to know each other more, since they probably don't interact all that much except international social events, so he sets up more meetings so she can have someone to hang out with, eventually becoming one of her closest friend and eventually when everyone around them is getting married and having families, everyone in their family worried that they'll never get married they set up an arranged marriage, they don't hate it but their not romantically interested in each other, they're just a guy and girl friends who decided 'meh if it had to be anyone I'd rather it be you' type of situation.
LAlya: Lila x Alya, I think Alya wouldn't want to interact with a hardcore liar, especially being some type of journalist/she's actually a honest blogger.
AlyaNette: Alya and Marinette don't really seem like the type of relationship to be interested in each other, unless I'm not looking to deep into it and one party was actually trying to hide their feelings this entire time
KimAlix: There's not many scenes with them, and I think male/female friendships need to be important and not immediately making them romantically interested in each other and when one's feelingd are unrequited they stop being friends because they can't deal with it, and in a way it will hurt both of them in the end.
ChloLila: They either or hate each other or relate to each other.
NathLoe: Nathaniel is still friends with Marinette, somehow still cares about her in some way, also probably wouldn't get with the girl who made fun of his crush on the girl who is his ex crush still friend that much.
Antibug x Chat Blanc: Villain loves villain
MarcNette: Not sure they'll like each other in that way ever
AlixMax: Hmm... not sure really
MaxNette: Could be an interesting, but I don't think they'll ever be paired up by the creators knowing that 1 The creators don't seem to like ships that aren't main couple and isn't gonna bank them the money with the drama 2 Even if it did happen I'll probably be disappointed by canon again
Jagged Stone x Penny: Huh? They were a thing?
Pl'Ikki: Ok
Kim x Chloe: Girl probably messed with his feelings and head, don't need to watch the show to headcanon that
ChloGami: Maybe Kagami could inspire her to not be stuck up and not the total worst character, but I doubt that we'll ever happen since the show just sees them as plot devices.
Max x Sabrina: Ok
Duusu x Nooroo: Ok
Wayzz x Trixx: Ok
Wayzz x Pollen: Ok
DelBrina: Haven't watched the movie, but maybe it'd be a romantic long distance relationship.
MarcIno: I feel like this is just pair the spares trope acting up again.
FeLoLya: Childhood friends(?) plus girl they think is cool
NathAurore: Feel like even celebrities besides Adrien don't get the chance to shine more in the show besides Adrien, like has she ever appeared in the show besides her Akuma eps?
LiLuka: Before, could have been cool, one of the main/supporting characters gets with the mean girl/girl MC does not trust, could have been redeemed. But honestly who would want to get with their ex crushes bully or someone who hurt them, unless it was just your fleeting crush lol
LukaZoe: I think Zoe is gay but I could be wrong. She could be Bi, but also I feel it would be a boring because it seems like your basic pair the spares ship
Dislike
LadyNoir: I feel sad for Chat even if he's a simp, it's just imagine if your crush thought you were annoying as heck.
MariChat: Mari just being openly annoyed at Chat, when he isn't looking and Chat eventually Chat falling for the 'just a friend', I don't know, I feel he would think she's a little weird even as a friend let alone a crush, like imagine the friend you never knew liked you to an unhealthily obsessed level.
AdriNette: What I said above.
ChloNette: Bully x bully, hate x hate, could have been interesting if Chloe didn't manipulate her obvious feelings for Adrien, and Marinette actually gave her a chance to be a hero again, and her not disappointing.
Gabriel x Nathalie: A man obsessed with bringing back his ex wife and the assistant who's been by his side, who looks over his kid trying to maintain their relationship they have with one another. TBH, he's willing to die just to bring Emilie back, he knows he sucks, but maybe it's mainly because he knows he has no idea what to do with his kid since then.
Hate
Don't really hate any ships TBH in general, everyone probably has a guilty pleasure.

DuPont School for Monstrous Youths- The Sad Stuff
Ya girl was in an angsty mood, so here's some stuff to hit you in the feels! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002
Voodoo dolls have a long history of being enslaved by humans. Entire families would fall under the control of dark hoodoo mystics, and that was the case for Marinette's family. Tom and Sabine managed to get their daughter out when she was eight or so (with help from Bustier and Mendeliev), but they remain in captivity, which haunts Marinette.
Because Ondine's father was saltwater and her mother freshwater, they're essentially shunned not only by their family (barring her maternal grandparents), but by most of their species as a whole. They live in their isolated lagoon because they weren't welcome anywhere else. Most other aquatic monsters immediately recognize Ondine as being mixed (she has lighter toned skin and upward slanted gills, traits of freshwater monsters, but sharp teeth and fins on her arms and legs, which are saltwater features.) and treat her like garbage.
Dragons are actually incredibly rare as of the last few centuries due to the rise of hunting them for their scales and horns. The Tsurugi clan are actually one of the few remaining prominent families, but even their numbers have severely dwindled. Kagami's mother was blinded and her father killed in an attack when she was very young.
Max's creator/father, Markov, mysteriously vanished without a trace around four years ago. Max has scoured every inch of their home and lab trying to find some sort of lead, but has found nothing. He continues to search because he knows his father wouldn't have just abandoned him.
When Ivan was ten years old, his village in the mountains was attacked by a cryptid hunting brigade. His mother managed to get him and Sasha to safety, but his father was killed in the attack trying to give his family time to get away. He still wakes up crying every once in a while.
Simon's parents and the majority of his family deemed him 'worthless' because he was such a 'runt' for their kind. He was essentially disowned and cast out for being an 'embarrassment'. Thankfully, his aunt was having none of that.
Jean possesses a very rare and deadly ability for phantoms, which is to sing a cursed note that can stop the heart and shatter the mind, resulting in instant, painful death. Many see them as a threat because of this, and it's the reason his father took him away from his mother. She wanted to use them as a weapon against humans.
Nathaniel's dad died when a band of humans set fire to the chapel the Kurtzbergs had called home, wanting to rid it of 'demons'. He was smashed to rubble trying to get his son to safety.
Anthony has been persecuted his entire life for being a daemon, and supposedly 'evil'. He has scars from holy water being thrown at him, people have set fire to his family's home, and he constantly gets told to "GO BACK TO HELL!"
Yeah, Ismael’s mom never wanted a kitten and threw both him and his dad out when Fazli refused to “get rid of” their child.
Aurore’s planet was consumed by a civil war which was why her family had to flee to Earth. Her family was a prestigious clan with HUGE targets on their backs, and had to go to a planet basically off the records for their own safety.
Leave your thoughts in the comments and reblogs!

One of the reasons people seems to hate Tom and (to a lesser-extent) Sabine is because Tom is named after Thomas Astruc and apparently Sabine was named after a girl he used to go out with (or had a crush on, I forgot how the story goes). Which can be seen as creepy, but considering how the characters actually are in the show, seems to be done more on some sort of principle rather than actually any problems with how the characters are written.
One artist even came up with an AU in which they both divorce and she gets together with an OC of the artist's, with the backstory of why being because Tom defended his racist father.
Okay those are both pretty bunk reasons to hate Tom and Sabine. And having Sabine divorce Tom because of him defending Rolland is just... yeah that's just making stuff up in order to demonize Tom. In the show Tom wasn't even the one who was in contact with him, SABINE was!
Sabine: Oh, come on now! It really is a shame, Rolland! It's your son's 40th birthday today! (Marinette gets an apple from the refrigerator and bites it.) And, uh, I know how much Tom would love it if you- (Rolland hangs up and Sabine gasps) Oh... Marinette: Is that my grandfather again? Sabine: Yes. Marinette: So he's definitely not coming, then? Sabine: I did everything I could. It would've made your dad so happy. He doesn't talk very openly about his feelings, but I know he's sad that he doesn't see his own father anymore. It's a shame.
I hate when people just blatantly make stuff up to demonize a character they don't like that actively goes against canon.

So my suggestion on Derision? Ignore it. Declare it bullshit in author notes. Openly mock it and declare it non-canon. It conflicts with or ruins so many episodes (rewatch animaestro) it is the obvious weak link. It was written from a place of hate and anger at some members of the audience, not one of love for the characters and the show. And so: excise it and retain your love.
It trashes so many more prople than just marinette too.
Like her parents for ignoring multiple years of bullying so bad she made up fake excuses to avoid school? This is the same Tom who went akuma because a boy broke her heart. This is the same caring and wonderful Sabine saying 'its only three more weeks then *maybe* it will be okay*
The hand of the author is just so blatant too. Your example with Mylene is one I hate on a different level, because this *is* a kids show and Mylene just told kids 'every situation is the same. Its your fault if you react differently. André the power-abusing, neglectful, pushover is *exactly* the same as Mylene's supportive, involved, father. If you as a child end up differently in these environments, you are the problem.
Ugh, yeah. So just nuke Derision and don't apologize. It doesn't respect canon, so why should your canon respect it?
Oh, yeah, Derision ruins pretty much every character who has lines in it. It's also hardly the first episode to introduce a poorly thought-out plot point or characterization. I'm normally very happy to take the Nick Fury approach to canon where I recognize the show's decision and then elect to ignore it.
The reason I'm able to do that so easily is that the writing choices I don't agree with usually just disappoint me. They don't bother me on an emotional level. And, sure, I could do deep explanations of why certain plot/character choices are terrible and should never have been made, but I prefer to express my disappointment by just writing fanfiction that does the thing that I wish that the show would've done. It's actually part of why I have so many fics featuring Nino and Alya being great friends to Adrien and Marinette. Because I don't like how the show has treated those relationship so I just say "Fine, I'll write the version that I want." The opposite of a salt fic, if you will? A writing salt, character sugar fic?
Derision hit different. It upset me on an emotional level, which is why I actually wrote up an analysis of what was bad with just one element the episode and tossed it into the ether. Doing that actually did help as have all of the responses to that post. Knowing that I'm not alone in finding this episode upsetting and poorly thought out is helping me move past it. So thank you for this message and for all the replies to that post. I'm starting to turn my emotions from sadness to drive to get back to my reverse crush canon rewrite, which was the whole reason I made the post in the first place! I want to finish that and give the characters the arcs I wish that we'd gotten in the show.
As for posts that go over why certain episodes or characterizations are bad, well, you're always welcome to ask me for my thoughts on stuff and I'll write it up, but unless something about canon deeply bothers me, I'll mostly keep my thoughts to myself and continue to channel them into fanfiction fuel.
#ask answered#ml derision#ml derision spoilers#ml salt#ml season 5#ml season 5 salt#thank you this was very nice to read because I agree with everything you said#I just didn't want to get into the list of all the things Derision reconed and broke#I wanted to focus on the part that was really bothering me#ml writing salt

Miraculous
Chapter 6: Lila Exposed
(In the Patisserie, Sabine attends to customers as she softly sobs.)
SABINE: (VOICE BREAKING) I can’t believe she left us.
TOM: There’s nothing we can do about it. She views us as traitors. It’s gonna be hard to convince her otherwise.
(Sabine lowers her sad gaze.)
youtube
(On a cloudy day, Ms. Bustier sadly watches her remaining fourteen students enter her classroom. All of them woefully frown, except Adrien, who glares. The students take their seats. Lila glares at Adrien as she passes, and he responds with a harder one.)
MS. BUSTIER: (SHAKILY) Okay, class. Our next assignment. Poetry. In your notebooks, write an interesting poem. Your assignment is due Thursday.
(Her face falls into her hands and she sobs. Her students lower their regretful gazes. Later, the students walk out, still with woeful frowns. Adrien walks out with the same glare as in the classroom. Lila walks behind him, holding him in a menacing glare. As Adrien keeps going, Lila’s right eyebrow raises, leaving her left eyebrow furrowed. While Adrien gets in his car, Lila stays behind, watching angrily. Now, Adrien enters his room, swings his door shut, and pads across the floor. He looks out his giant window at the cloudy sky above. Beyond the tall structures, the bakery roof is visible. Adrien looks down woefully, then looks up with an idea. Later, he writes on a sheet. The next day, the sun shines on the afternoon sky. The Françoise Dupont students walk out. Adrien goes up the Eiffel Tower. At the top, holding his sheet, Adrien overlooks the city, and begins speaking.)
ADRIEN: Classmates! I know you all thought Marinette was in the wrong to accuse Lila of “lying”. In fact, why didi just do air quotes? Marinette was right! She knows what she's talking about! I’ve just been playing along! Lila is a fraud!
(Everyone looks to Lila.)
LILA: Uh-oh.
ADRIEN: Everything she’s said is false! No way someone her age has accomplished so much! She used her lies to turn all of you against Marinette! Marinette’s done everything for us! Lila’s done nothing, and you treat Marinette like dirt?! Lila! Because of you, our “Everyday Ladybug”, class representative, and accomplished student is gone!
(Glaring, the Parisians close in on Lila, cornering her.)
LILA: Look. Guys. I can explain everything.
ADRIEN: No need to! You’ve lied to us too many times!
ROSE: Does Prince Ali even have a private jet or not?!
CHLOÉ: Has Jagged Stone written a song about you?!
NINO: And you haven’t met a single director in Hollywood, have you?!
LILA: Guys. Listen. Just let me explain.
MRS. ROSSI: Lila! You are grounded for this lying! The school’s closure, Principal Damocles staying akumatized, and Adrien being your boyfriend!
ADRIEN: Now, during your punishment, I want you to think about what you ve done. Make up for it, or be banished.
(Lila lowers her gaze. With more than furious glares, the Parisians surrounding Lila walk away, leaving her by herself. She raises her remorseless glare.)
LILA: Phase 2: “Encourage Adrien” is complete.
GABRIEL: Perfect. Go on Phase 3.

Trivia
There was going to be a song here parodying Look at Spookley from Spookley the Square Pumpkin, but I was having a hard time getting the lyrics to rhyme, so I cut it.

Lila the vampire part 6
Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie Bakery Sunset
To Marinette’s surprise Lila was able to convince her parents to let her live with them. She told them that her apartment had asbestos. She also told them about her sun allergy.
Marinette’s parents soon leave to buy more supplies to make food.
Lila: “If you teach me how to bake I’ll be glad to help out at the bakery.”
Marinette(annoyed): “I thought that you had carpal tunnel.”
Lila shakes her wrist on her right hand a few times.
Lila: “I guess it got better.”
Marinette: “Lila if you’re going to live with us I think that we need to set some ground rules.”
Lila: “You’re right human.”
Marinette(shock look on face): “I am?”
Lila: “Yes. Rule number one, you must call me Cerise. Rule number two, you must let me drink your blood every night before I go to bed.”
Marinette(nervous): “You’re not getting anymore of my blood!”
Cerise starts making sad little puppy dog eyes at Marinette.
Cerise: “Do you want me to starve?”
Marinette: “Well I…”
Cerise: “I’ll be gently, and I won’t take too much.”
Cerise leans closer to Marinette.
Cerise(whispers into Marinette’s ear): “Unless you want me to.”
Marinette blushes.
Cerise: “Seeing as the sun’s setting, it’s time for me to change.”
Cerise snaps her fingers and her big puffy coat turns into a black leather tank top with a white skull on it.
Marinette: “May I ask you a question?”
Cerise: “Yes human.”
Marinette: “How long have you been a vampire for?”
Cerise looks away.
Marinette: “I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings.”
Cerise: “It’s just… I…”
Marinette: “You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
Cerise eyes start watering.
Cerise: “I don’t remember. One day I just woke up as a vampire with no memory of my past.”
Tears start running down Cerise’s cheeks.
Cerise: “Back then I couldn’t control myself, and I killed people. Eventually I learned to control myself, but I was alone. I became so lonely that I wanted to die. I stopped drinking blood, and fell into a deep sleep until you woke me up.”
Marinette much to her surprise, hugs Cerise.
Marinette: “It’s ok. You said it yourself that you can control yourself now.”
Cerise: “So you’re ok with me staying here?”
Marinette(smiles): “Yes.”

ML: Paper Wings Chapter 7: The Life That You Lead (Finale)
The next day, Marinette’s parents arrived home from their trip. As they entered the door, Marinette greeted them with a hug and a kiss. “We were only gone for a couple of days…” Tom joked.
“I know,” Marinette said.
“Thank you,” Tom said.
“So, how was your first time staying home alone?” Sabine asked.
“Well, um,” Marinette said, “funny story…” Marinette then regaled them with everything that had happened with her and Adrien over the past few days. As her parents listened, they were stunned, confused, and amazed at the same time.
“Anyway,” Marinette said, wrapping up, “Mr. Agreste has invited us over for dinner at our earliest convenience. Now, I know you just got back from your convention, so we don’t have to-”
“Today’s fine,” Tom said.
Marinette was stunned. “Really?”
Sabine nodded. “To be honest, we’re still a little tired. I imagine that meeting with the Agrestes and getting fed would be a ton easier than firing up the shop today.”
“Well, um, if you’re sure, I’ll give him a call,” Marinette said. She got out her phone.
A little while later, she and her parents were outside Agreste Manor. Marinette was slightly nervous, but rang the doorbell. A camera popped up, and over the speaker, Gabriel’s voice rang out. “Ah! Marinette. I take it that these are your parents.”
“Um, yes sir…” Marinette replied.
“Well, come in,” Gabriel said. The gate opened, and the Dupain-Cheng family walked in. Once they made it to the door, they were greeted by Gabriel and Adrien. “Good evening,” Gabriel said.
“UH, hi,” Adrien added.
“Hm hm. Hi,” Marinette shot back.
“Well then, come in,” Gabriel said. “We don't want to keep you waiting.”
“Of course,” Tom said The Dupain-Cheng family entered, and together with the Agrestes made their way to the dining room.
As they were waiting for their food, Sabine remarked “Well, this is a really nice place you have here.”
“Thank you,” Gabriel said. “I’ve been to your place too. And although I’ve only seen a little bit of it, it looks lovely as well.”
“Oh. Thanks,” Sabine said.
“So, um, how is the fashion world?” Tom asked.
“It can be rough sometimes,” Gabriel answered, “but I certainly have made the most of it.”
“I see…” Tom said.
Gabriel’s face grew serious. “I think it’s about time we do away with the small talk,” he said. “I assume Marinette told you what happened.” Tom and Sabine nodded. “Good.” He sighed. “So, where do we go from here?”
Everyone else was a little confused. “Um, pardon?” Tom asked.
“I recognize that I have failed as a parent,” Gabriel said. “My son was this close to leaving Paris forever. Were it not for your daughter, he probably would have.” Everyone was shocked at the honesty and sadness reverberating in Gabriel’s voice. “So, what do I do now?”
Silence hung over the dining room. This was a big question, but also a fair one. Finally, Tom answered “Well, um, it helps to see your son for who he is…” Gabriel looked perplexed. “Er, what I mean is, I understand wanting to make sure your child doesn’t get hurt. I think every parent worth their salt does. But I think it’s important to listen to them as well.”
“And not just when they’re talking to you,” Sabine added. “We let Marinette stay home alone not just because she asked, but we’ve watched her grow. We’ve seen her change. We know she’s capable, even if she’s still a little clumsy.”
“Moooom,” Marinette said, slightly embarrassed.
Gabriel took all of this in. “I see.” He sighed. “I guess I have lost sight of who Adrien is. Well, that’s not entirely true. He has his mother’s independent streak. I guess I was afraid of losing him like I lost her. I thought if I could contain him, I wouldn’t lose him. But that proved to be demonstrably false.”
“Father…” Adrien said.
“Well…” Sabine said, “maybe what you need is more people in your life.”
“I beg your pardon?” Gabriel said.
“Well,” Sabine continued, “when Marinette was five, she ran away from home.”
“MOM!” Marinette objected.
Sabine held her hand to her. “However, because we knew the parents of Marinette’s friends, and we knew our friends who knew Marientte, we didn’t need to contact the authorities.”
“I see,” Gabriel said. “So, you’re saying that I need to open up my trust to others.”
“Well, you know what they say,” Tom said. “It takes a village to raise a child.”
“Hm,” Gabriel said. “I’ve always been a little antisocial. But I’m not just worrying about myself now, am I?” He sighed. “I guess I still have a lot to learn.”
Sabine chuckled. “Being a parent is a never ending learning experience.”
“Hm,” Gabriel smirked. “Where do you suggest I start?”
“Well, I think that’s a question directed at Adrien,” Sabine said.
Gabriel turned to his son. “Well?”
Adrien thought about it. “Um, well, if it’s alright, I would like to go to school. Like physically. With others.”
“Hmmmm,” Gabriel said. “Alright.”
“Really?” Adrien said.
“Well, it is better than you taking the first train out of here and never looking back,” Gabriel responded. “Although, I’m not sure where to start.”
“We can help,” Tom said. “The school where Marinette goes to is really great!”
“Yeah!” Sabine added. “Maybe we can help you set that up.”
Gabriel smiled. “Thank you. But I suggest we do that after dinner.” Just then, the servers brought out the aforementioned dinner. “Perfect timing.” Their meals were placed in front of them. “I hope this is to your liking. I know you’re professionals.”
“Oh, we’re professional pastry chefs,” Sabine said.
“Yeah,” Tom continued. “I mean, we can cook other foods well enough, but I wouldn’t say we’re professionals when it comes to all foods.”
“Still, I assume you have a discerning palette,” Gabriel said. Tom and Sabine chuckled. “Well then, let’s dig in.” They began eating.
“Wow!” Marinette said. “This tastes great!”
“I agree,” Tom said.
“Well, it might not be as spicy as I’d like,” Sabine noted, “but it tastes really good.”
“I could ask to bring out some spices,” Gabriel suggested.
“Hm hm, don’t bother,” Marinette said. “I doubt you have the kind of spice my mom likes.”
“Besides, it’s nice to change things up a bit,” Sabine said. “Variety is the spice of life.”
“I see,” Gabriel said, grinning.
Adrien chuckled. “This is nice.” He continued eating.
Gabriel was astounded. “Hm. I haven’t seen you smile like that for a while.”
“Oh, uh, well…” Adrien stammered.
“Perhaps we should have company over more often,” Gabriel suggested.
Adrien was awestruck. “For real?” Gabriel nodded. Adrien turned to the Dupain-Chengs. “Would you mind?”
“Of course not!” Tom exclaimed. “It’s nice to get out once in a while.”
“Besides, I think it’s worth it to discuss ideas on how to break the two of you out of your shells,” Sabine said. The Agreste men laughed nervously.
“Although,” Marinette said, “we could also invite you over to our place too.”
Gabriel smiled. “That sounds simply wonderful.” They continued eating.
After they finished, Tom and Sabine took Gabriel aside to help him prepare to enroll Adrien in Francois-Dupont High School. Meanwhile, Adrien led Marinette to his room. She was stunned. “Wow. This is a big room.”
“Yeah,” Adrien said. “But it kind of makes me feel small.”
Marinette was shook. “Oh. I’m sorry.”
Adrien smiled. “It’s fine. I think I'm starting to like that feeling. I mean, I wanted to leave to see just how big the world was. If I’m being let out more and more anyway, I think I can finally appreciate being a small part of something bigger."
Marinette took Adrien’s hand. “Well, you know I’ll always be there for you. Just so you don’t get lost in the bigness of it all.”
Adrien smiled. He pulled Marinette in. “May I?”
Marinette giggled. “You may.” They shared their first kiss.
Sometime later, summer had come to an end, and school started up. Marinette lived a short distance from the school, so she just walked there. As she arrived, she saw a limo. Outwalked Adrien. Once the limo drove off, he noticed her. “Hey Marinette.”
She giggled, and rushed towards him. “Hey.” They shared a kiss. “So, are you ready for your first day?” Marinette asked.
“Well, I think so,” Adrien said. “I mean, I’ve toured the school. I’ve talked with the staff. I have the materials. But it’s a whole other thing to be in the thick of it, you know?”
“I do,” Marinette said. She took his hand again. “But remember, you aren’t alone.”
Adrien smiled. “Right.” They walked in together, hands linked.
Many years later, Adrien and Marinette are on the couch, as Adrien wraps his arm around Marinette, he finishes his story by stating “And that, kids, is how I met your mother.” The kids were awestruck, but Marinette was tickled pink. “Now, it’s time for you to go to bed.”
After the kids were put to bed, Marinette was working on her next fashion project, when Adrien gave her a hug. Marinette turned around and gave him a kiss. “What is it dear?”
Adrien let go and chuckled. “Nothing. Just telling that story reminded me how much I love you.”
Marinette blushed. “It is nice to hear again after all these years.” She looked at her design. “It has been a while since we did something, just the two of us. Maybe after I get done with this project, we can set something up.”
“OR,” Adrien said, pulling Marinette out of her chair. “We can do a little something now?” He raised his eyebrows suggestively.
Marinette rolled her eyes. “I meant more like a vacation.” Adrien pouted. Marinette chuckled. “But I won’t say ‘no’ to right now.” Adrien perked up. They shared a kiss, and then headed back to their room for the night.
