Tokyo Rhapsody of Sex #63 “Tokyo Rhapsody of Sex” is my first photography project commencing from 2011. I follow the footsteps of Daido Moriyama in exploration of Tokyo. Tokyo is the most famous city in Asia, what hides beneath is the most primitive human desire- sex. But sex absurdly becomes erotic culture as a result of the constraint nature of Japanese ethnicity. In this city filled with dark and deep desire, I withhold my urgent needs for erotic dependence, explore Tokyo, and try to transform the Tokyo I see into a black rhapsody of sex in Tokyo. https://opensea.io/collection/tokyo2011 #blackandwhite #tokyo #かんだじんぼうちょう #tokyostreet #tokyostory #monochrome #ontheroad # #lightandshadow #streetphotography #blackandwhitephotography #joechanart #art #artwork #NFT #nftart #nftcommunity #nftartgallery #opensea #openseanft #opensea #openseanftart #openseaartist #tokyo #daidomoriyama #森山大道 #神田神保町古書街 #nyc @goodgallery22(在 Tokyo, japan) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm-8BBtyeMD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

November Reading List #8
What you are looking for is in the library by Michiko Aoyama and translated by Alison Watts
I have actually received this book as a gift from my other half and I wasn’t expecting from him to know me this well. I was very happy when I saw it and I can’t wait to get to it at some point in my life.
It’s an uplifting coming-of-age story which I haven’t read much in these past months so it is needed by now. The book is centered in Tokyo, in a library, where Sayuri Komachi, a librarian with amazing people-reading skills, recommends just the perfect book to each of her visitors. Reminds me of the bartenders who always know what drink you should have based on your actual misery mixed with your personality.
If you are interested about the book follow the link below:

Tokyo Story. Directed by Yasujiro Ozu, Shochiku, 1953.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There has always been a gap between parents and children. We live in the same house, but exist in completely different worlds. The adults, hammered by society into distinct roles, their lives limited, bounded, and plaintive. The children are free, their lives, as they seem to be, are limitless, boundless, and euphoric. These differences are natural breeding grounds for conflict. You can never escape this conflict. You can choose to run away and start your own family, which is what almost every adult in this movie has done. But even Noriko, who lives by her own and doesn’t have blood relations to the Hirayama’s, mourns and stays with them. As much as she insists that she does this out of guilt, she could have just ran away and started things on her own. Except, she knows who she loves and care for: this family who has raised her husband, who’s presumed dead from the War. As often as people leave for their own lives, we will always carry the weight of those we’ve left behind. And no matter how far we run, we always find our hearts in longing to be with those who were there ever since we begun.

Yasujiro Ozu - Tokyo Story (Tokyo Monogatari) (1953) One of the most beautiful films by one of the three true greats of classic Japanese cinema (the others being Kurosawa and Mizoguchi, obviously), Tokyo Story is a retelling of Leo McCarey's 1937 Make Way for Tomorrow, which is also a really great film and really worth watching if you are an Ozu fan. Of course much is changed in Ozu's version, first and foremost this is now set in Japan, and while the original was set in the aftermath of the great depression, this is set in another period of great turmoil, the reconstruction of Japan in the post-war period. In both cases the demands of modern life lead to people leaving behind traditional familial values, which are clearly still kept up in the provinces but which have little place in the great cities. Ozu's style is the other main change here, Ozu uses the camera like a character or a fly on the wall, the camera is static, at the ground level and the actors talk directly into it, with the position of the camera taking the place of the interlocutor, this creates a sense of intimacy which is essential for the emotional beats of the movie to truly land. Here a couple of old people come to visit their children living in Tokyo, including the widow of their son lost in the war 8 years previous. The son and daughter are much too busy for them and also slightly ashamed of their country way, and the old couple is understanding and accommodating, making for one of the sweetest old couples in film. It is in the daughter-in-law that they find the most accepting and loving person, although she lives in the shadow of the loss of their dead son, they are for her a way to reconnect to her lost love and life. Dreamed of Chloe and Felix
This is the page with an interpretation of Frank Miller’s style and the Tokyo Story frame.
Putting the frame, a traditional interior of 1960′s japan, within the About Maria Turner storyline was not going to be easy. So I decided to go literal and have the Reader viewing the movie in a movie theater.
For the Miller part I thought of noir: shadows, blind shades and dramatic scenes. This of course meant complicated birds-eye 3-point perspectives. Here is the first story board:
