She walked away from his room, holding back her cries because of the echo in the corridors. She walked through the whole bank, until she found a fairly lonely corner and sat in it. There, she sobbed and cried. She cried herself to sleep, a part of her knowing that they wouldn't find her even if they looked for her. She needed to be alone. Her scars were opened badly and she needed time to heal.

Palermo sat on the couch, looking at the floor, zoned out. Someone knocked on the door and entered. Tokyo poked her head in.

"Palermo, we can't find Sydney, do you happen to know where she is?" she asked.

He just shook him head, holding back from saying too much.

"For Christ's sake, you're a terrible boyfriend. You don't even care to know where she is." She said in disgust.

"I'm not her boyfriend. Not anymore." He said.

"...what?" she said in shock. "What did you do to her?!"

"I screwed her up really bad. I told her some really cruel things. And now we're not together anymore." he replied.

"You're disgusting. You threw away this amazing girl who openly admitted to me that she would die for you, when it's clear that you wouldn't even do the bare minimum for her. Tell me, have you ever dried her tears? Have you ever been with her without having Berlìn on your mind for even a split second? Have you ever brought her chocolate or taken care of her when she was on her period?" She scoffed, throwing her hands up in the air. "Honestly, I judge her for not breaking up with you sooner."

With that, Tokyo closed the door behind her, leaving Palermo with a feeling of guilt at the pit of his stomach.

"Sydney? Sydney, where are you?" she heard a female voice call her and froze, holding her breath in hopes of going unnoticed. Someone opened the door and she lifted her gaze to see someone walking closer to her. Tokyo.

"Hey." she said soothingly and sat down next to her. "Something happened with Palermo?"

Sydney nodded. "I don't wanna talk about it. Not now."

"That's okay. Come here." Tokyo opened her arms and she plopped down into her embrace. She had no tears left to cry. She just laid her head on her lap and looked at the ceiling. But she also noticed how she felt a spark run up her body when their bare skin brushed together.

"Whenever you're ready, we can go back with the others, okay?" She nodded and nuzzled into her touch. "I know he told you some really terrible things. Whatever he told you, don't listen to him. He's a shitty person and an even shittier boyfriend. You're way too good for him."

Sydney smiled, moved. Palermo had never said that to her, and anything similar was a lie.

After a day of complete loneliness, only allowing Tokyo in, Sydney started warming back up to her life again. When she came back to the center of the Bank, the others were relieved and gave her lots of affection, while Palermo stood on the corner, facing away, as if punishing himself.

Sydney still kept away from the others, but still spent time in the same room, all the while pretending Palermo wasn't there to save herself some pain. The only person she'd talk to was Tokyo, who always knew exactly what to say to calm her down.

Palermo, on the other hand, was out of control. He failed to value what the girl felt for him and it pushed him over the edge. First, he rebelled and tried to leave the Bank, as he lost his love for the plan. As they were forced to tie him up, he was concerningly talking to Gandìa more often than not. He had lost control, he had lost sight of his priorities, starting when he threw her away for someone that had died over a year ago.

One night, Sydney was on watch with Tokyo. Everybody was asleep except for the two women, and after weeks of stress and days of heartbreak, Sydney finally felt relaxed.

"Are you feeling any better?" Tokyo asked her gently. She didn't want to push her because she knew wounds take time to heal.

"A bit, yes. I think getting away from him helped me see straight. With him, the atmosphere was toxic, and he neglected me a lot." She replied, sighing in content.

"I know. I'm really sorry." She smiled sweetly.

A moment of comfortable silence fell over them, until Sydney broke it.

"I'm ready to talk about it." she blurted out and the two sat down.

Then she told Tokyo everything from the very beginning: their first meeting, their first kiss, their relationship, his bond with Andrès, everything that led up to their breakup. And Tokyo was feeling extremely involved. Hearing everything he had done to her made her heart clench in her chest, cover her mouth with her hand and hold back tears of sympathy.

When she was done, Tokyo had heard enough.

"I could kill him if you want me to." she joked, but in a half-serious tone.

"No, please don't," she chuckled. "He made the plan, we need him alive."

"Can I at least beat him up? Please?" She tilted her head.

"No, Tokyo," she laughed. "You already told him off. And he's going crazy, too. He's had enough."

"How do you still care about him? He told you to die, after he made you believe you were the center of his world. He wanted to get close to Berlìn all this time." She said.

"I know. But I don't want to focus on him. I'm just glad I got out of it." she responded.

Tokyo cupped her cheek with one hand, which made her blush furiously, and suddenly she was glad the dark hid her flushed face. "You look gorgeous." she said softly as she admired how the moonlight bounced off her eyes. Sydney leaned into her hand, kissing her palm and smiling at her. She was suddenly surprised at how Tokyo made her feel, it was new, it was different, a breath of fresh air after two years of toxicity. She inched closer to her face, up to where she could feel her warm breath fanning over her lips.

"Can... can I..?" Tokyo asked, and Sydney nodded her head once. And there, under the glistening moonlight and silent and cozy atmosphere of the room, their lips met in a gentle kiss, filled with care and compassion. Her stomach was bursting with fireworks as Tokyo showed her the love she needed all her life. She suddenly pulled away, a hint of shame in her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I don't want to rush you into anything. You just take your time, okay? And when you're ready, I'll be here waiting for you so I can show you everything that idiot didn't." She said.

Sydney smiled and took her face in her hands. "Thank you for being so considerate."

A week passed and Sydney was ready to start dating Tokyo, to which the latter responded wonderfully. The new couple started getting intimate in front of the team as well, which made them all thrilled, except for Palermo.

He forced himself to act indifferent to their relationship, but in reality he hated every bit of it. He hated how every time he turned around to face them, they were either hugging, kissing, holding hands or one had an arm wrapped around the other. He hated how happy Sydney looked with her. He hated that his ex had started dating the one who staged a coup against him. He hated how Tokyo showed him how she should have been treated. But most importantly, he hated that he was the cause of all this.

When Palermo closed the door, she crossed her arms and looked at him impatiently. "What do you want, Martín?"

"Why are you going out with Tokyo?" He asked.

"You really had the nerve to come here and ask me that, after everything you've said to me?" She laughed humorlessly. "God, you're impossible."

"I'm really sorry. I know you probably don't want to hear any of it, but I am. With all my heart." He said sincerely, a hint of desperation in his voice.

"They say that from every relationship you learn something. Well, you've taught me more than anybody I've ever dated. And I've had enough now. You're right, I should be in Andrés' place now, I wish I hadn't existed so that I wasn't an obstacle to you and him. I really hope that he loved you back. You deserve happiness and love as well." Sydney replied.

At those words, Palermo's heart clenched. He had broken her, maybe even far beyond reparation. He desperately wanted to give her a hug and to never let go, to whisper apologies and compliments in her ear and then kiss and fuck her senseless, just like he did when they first got together. But now it was hopeless. He had a chance with her, and he blew it. Now it was Tokyo's turn. And deep down, he hoped she wouldn't make the same mistake he did and let her go.

As she realized she left him speechless, she walked out the door without saying anything.

"You told Gandía how to escape?! Are you out of your mind?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!" Sydney yelled at Palermo, who looked at her like a beaten-up dog. She threw her arms in the air, and decided that she had never been this angry. "Now he kidnapped Tokyo. It wasn't enough for you to ruin me, you had to ruin my relationship too. Of course you did."

She was worried sick for her. Gandía was a crazy psychopath, he could have done anything to Tokyo by now: she could be wounded, she could be dying, she could be already dead. She prayed to whoever was watching her to save Tokyo, to bring her back alive, if not untouched. And she was incredibly angry at Palermo. If Tokyo died, she would have spent the rest of her life hating him, resenting him until her very last breath.

"Nothing is going to happen to her, Sydney. It's a part of the plan." He said calmly, so calmly that he winced at himself.

"Oh, how reassuring. It's a pity, because I don't remember you running it by me!" She exclaimed exasperated and stormed out of the room, slamming the door in his face.

...

Battle of the Bank of Spain, days later

She was crouched next to Tokyo as the Browning machine gun fired shots at the police. A layer of blood ran from her jaw down her neck and she was exhausted.

"Sydney, leave. Go with Denver." She suddenly said, and the woman didn't move an inch.

"No." She replied strictly, recharging the gun as they hid behind the trench.

"Yes. Go, now. Get to safety, you'll be better off there." She said.

"No. I've lost enough people, and I'm not planning on losing you, too." Sydney said.

"Go. Now. I'm not asking you. I'm telling you." She weakly pushed her away, but she resisted easily.

"Only if you come with me." She said, her eyes filling with tears.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart." Tokyo replied, also choking up as she stroked her partner's cheeks. "Don't be sad. I'll be going on a trip. A trip to somewhere better. But it's the first day of you new life. You've got a lot of lives to live, baby."

"No," she whimpered, clutching her to her chest.

"You need to leave, because it's party time." She said and grabbed onto the sniper, firing shots at the militaries.

"NO! TOKYO!" She yelled, trying to grab her hand and pull her away. "NO!"

Tokyo had had enough. She grabbed Sydney and forced her down the chute. "Goodbye, my love. Good luck on your next life."

Sydney sobbed as she let go of the sheets, falling down and bouncing up on a mattress. Denver immediately rushed to her and held her tightly as she cried desperately. They could hear shots, then she yelled as she got hit, which made Sydney cry harder. The Browning shot suddenly stopped, which could only mean one thing.

"TOKYO!" She yelled, crying loudly. She could barely breathe as a pause in the fight was heard, but was broken for good as seconds later, an explosion rang out.

She felt numb. Both emotionally and physically. She desperately wanted to hate Palermo for this, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She just felt so empty, so unmotivated that she couldn't even feel rancor towards the person whose decision could have avoided all this.

She had lost count of the people she had lost in robberies, but she hoped that Tokyo would be the last.

End of the heist

They had gotten out alive.

Sydney wished Tokyo could have been there to live this wonderful moment: the team finally collecting fake passports and boarding the helicopter.

When she saw Martìn looking at her apologetically, she walked to him with a soft smile on her face, one that avoided any sort of hostility. "Well, now we're even. I'm responsible for the love of your life's death and you're responsible for the death of mine."

"No, don't say that. It wasn't your fault. I shouldn't have blamed you. I'm sorry." he dismissed and grabbed her hands in his bigger ones.

To his surprise, she gave him a hug. It took him a few seconds to respond, but he soon wrapped his arms tightly around her. "I probably know the answer to this, but... do you think you could give me another chance? Please?"

She sighed, shaking her head softly. "No, honey. I'm sorry."

He pressed his lips into a thin line, disappointed but not surprised at all. "I understand why. I think I would have judged you if you had said yes."

Hi Bel! Some LCDP thoughts because I like your analysis. If Tokio were a man, she'd be the standard of action movies: reckless, head on, unpredictable, hardened. If Rio were a girl, on the other hand, he'd be the typical love interest: vulnerable, sensitive, emotional, kind. Do you think if the gender roles had been inverted in the script, there would be a different audience reception for their characters? Thank you!

YES, I've been saying that for ages now. I'm pretty sure Tokyo would be a fan favorite had she been a man. She's reckless, tough, short fused, hot blooded, bloody hot AND has her heart in the right place - damn! the masses would have loved a male character like her. Loved and lost before so became a lone wolf, got the walls brought down for love again and eventually dies for the family? Male!Tokyo would be right there next to Berlin in fandom preferences, being shipped together and ruling all the other ships. But Tokyo was born a woman, therefore, she had no excuse to be that great. She was always prone to be hated. Misogyny runs deeps within fandoms, even though most people don't want to admit it.

Not so sure if female!Rio would be better accepted, though. Misogyny runs really deep - female characters are not allowed to be tough and reckless (or they'll turn into 'bitches'), but they also can't be vulnerable and sensitive (or they'll be labeled as 'useless'). I mean, look at the audience's response to Mónica/Stockholm's inner struggles through part 5… Rio was the youngest of the gang, he was 'hired' to be the hacker, then they put guns on his hands and became the one who got caught, underwent some terrible torture, and when he starts displaying evident signs of PTSD, both characters and audience dismiss his feelings and push him to "toughen up". I feel like such arc would always vote them to be part of fandom's least favorites, but Rio as a girl might have gotten less hate for not having as many expectations attached.

And by ' audience, ' of course, I'm referring to the most vocal part of the fandom. It's my overall understanding from casual viewers that Tokyo was pretty cool and Rio was just a boy trapped inside a man's body. But you probably already know that… 😉😊

i guess i understand the need to have him be berlin in the spinoff because of brand recognition/bc it's the title and they need to explain immediately to new viewers and all that, but retconnning that is just so silly and dumb that it's annoying. like as you said they didn't even choose city nicknames at first in lcdp??? i guess (big assumption) that they could have written that having nicknames is something andres used to do in heists and jobs before the main show, he used berlin for whatever reason, sergio used that nickname idea for the main heist, didn't want to use cities at first bc of some reason, but when they did end up with that, berlin chose his old nickname. but it's too convoluted. i just hope the show is at least so-bad-it's-fun and not just bad-bad...

I only understand it as far as calling the show Berlin. Maybe even in Pedro's own narration (taking that he knows his own future, in the same way Tokyo sort of knew as a narrator) but more than that? Other characters referring to him as Berlin? No, that's just dumb as hell. Your first priority should be textual coherence lol.

Yes, exactly. In lcdp part 1, they could have Andrés push for city names as code-names because he already had one and it was a good idea. Or they had all the opportunities in the world in part 2 to say oh yeah Andrés had always gone with this code-name. But just pulling this out of nowhere here is annoying.

Okay I think Im going crazy because I was 100% sure that nairobi and tokyo had a make out scene at one episode and I was crazy about that scene I had a HUGE crush on both of them and at one episode they were talking while laying on the bed and then suddenly they started making out and I remember like it was a long scene.
