It’s a new day for a familiar space in Culver City, as Tokyo Guild will soon serve Japanese sandwiches, sake, and small bites. The restaurant takes over for the now-closed Ramen Bangaichi on Washington Boulevard, with an immediate second location coming to Long Beach’s Bixby Knolls neighborhood. via Pocket

it's not subtitled, or very good, but I kind of want to find a VHS copy of the Last Bronx movie.
Also it might be the only accurate fighting game movie ever.

what kind of movies did the avid Sega Saturn fan buy (or rent at the local Blockbuster) back in the day? let’s take a look at ways one would further expand their Sega Saturn gaming experiences:
youtube
Sonic the Hedgehog OVA: I remember seeing the Japanese trailer for this in the Sonic World ‘theater’ of Sonic Jam which was a huge tease because I don’t think the movie was available in the US till a couple years later. but as soon as I saw the VHS at my mall’s Suncoast Video by ADV I snagged it immediately and probably played more Sonic Jam or Sonic R afterwards to keep the vibes.
youtube
Panzer Dragoon OVA: maybe not the best $20 VHS tape decision I ever made, but for my love of all things Sega had to get it. while I liked the blending 3d with 2d animation that was ‘cutting edge’ at the time, the awful dubbing and short length of the movie left a lot to be desired. PD deserves better than this. here’s a better quality upload (Japanese w/no subtitles) if anyone happens to want to screenshot / gif anything.
youtube
Virtua Fighter OVA: never actually gave this a watch until now, but I’m loving it in all its cheesy glory. Akira apparently always has the munchies, Pai is a tsundere, and Sara has her own cute anime pet thing in this rendition. View the whole series on [this playlist]
youtube
Magic Knight Rayearth OVA: the last Saturn game released in the US which I didn’t snooze on and pre-ordered my copy at Electronics Boutique and boy did I love it. maybe I knew about it from Newtype Magazine, so once the anime came over to here my friend was the one to buy them and we marathoned it sometime the summer right before the days of Dreamcast... *note, the 1st episode isn’t included in that 6 hour upload for some reason, so [here it is]
youtube
Last Bronx ~Tokyo Bangaichi~: was not aware of this until recently actually (thanks to this Sega Lord X video) but if it was released in the US back then, dubbing or not, I would’ve been all about it. I played this weapon based fighter all the time, curious about the relationships that all the characters had with each other which this movie actually develops. although I wish I could understand this of course, the fighting scenes and overall atmosphere is still pretty neat to see. (can’t embed more videos so I’ll wrap this up) of course you could always kick back and enjoy videos on the Saturn itself. a good amount of games had bonus features to see all the cutscenes after completing the game, some of my favorite being Megaman 8 and Burning Rangers (which I would’ve loved a full anime of). and lastly, because they are both based on Sega arcade hardware and Saturn, would I fail to not mention Die Hard and the Dead or Alive movie (it sure hit differently being made in 2006 instead of 1996 tho)
