Japan Box Office: Shin Ultraman Repeats at No.1 with Strong 486 Million Yen

    After making its impressive debut last weekend, Shin Ultraman has kept its No.1 spot for two consecutive weeks.

  The Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan live-action films, Shin Godzilla)-directed all-new live-action film inspired by Tsuburaya Production's original Ultraman TV series in 1966-1967 earned a still-strong 486 million yen (3.8 million USD) on 312,000 admissions in its second weekend, bringing its total to 2 billion yen (15.65 million USD) on 1.34 million admissions. The two-week gross was about 93 percent of that of Higuchi's previous film in 2016, Shin Godzilla.

    A film that outperformed Shin Ultraman in terms of per theater revenue was The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie, a sequel to the two-season TV anime adaptation of Negi Haruba's romantic comedy manga. The 136-minute film was released in 108 theaters across Japan (Shin Ultraman had 362 theaters in its opening weekend) on May 20, then earned an impressive 267 million yen (2.09 million USD) on 200,000 admissions, making its second place debut. Its three-day total reached 390 million yen (3.05 million USD) on 290,000 admissions.

  The film even ranked No.1 on Filmarks' first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.15/5.0 based on 520 reviews.

    Coming in third was Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween, which earned 238 million yen (1.86 million USD) on 166,000 admissions in its sixth weekend. Its total box office gross has reached 7.9 billion yen (61.82 million USD) and surpassed that of the Conan anime franchise's third top-grossing film, The Scarlet Bullet (2021 / 7.65 billion yen).

    As expected by many people, The Avenger Scar, the first part of the Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Edition, the two-part live-action film sequel of Hiromu Arakawa's internationally popular fantasy action manga Fullmetal Alchemist, bombed at the Japanese box office.

  Despite the wide release with 349 theaters and the large amount of publicity on TV, the 125-minute film made a disappointing 72 million yen (563,510 USD) and ranked ninth in its opening weekend. The opening weekend gross was only 27 percent of that of the first live-action film in 2017. It is expected to disappear from the top 10 next weekend. The second part Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Transmutation is set to be released on June 24.

    The live-action film adaptation of the Naoki Prize-winning author Mizuki Tsujimura's popular novel Haken Anime! failed to rank in the top 10 in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, the film about the Japanese anime industry ranked second in Filmarks' first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.00/5.0 based on 1,265 reviews.

    Also, Yuki no Maki, the first part of the trilogy film project Toku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru ~Setsugetsuka~, didn't make it to the box office top 10 in its opening weekend. Its average rating in Filmarks' first day satisfaction ranking was 3.60/5.0 (based on 70 reviews).

La simpatica commedia romantica arriverà su Crunchyroll da aprile.

Finalmente possiamo dare un primo sguardo alla serie animata di "SAINT CECILIA AND PASTOR LAWRENCE" e, oh boy, sembra anche meglio anche di quanto mi aspettassi, anche se prende qualche punto in meno per il classico coprotagonista assurdamente ignaro degli ovvi segnali, inviati dalla gentil donzella di turno.

La simpatica commedia romantica è tratta dal manga di Hazano Kazutake e arriverà in simulcast su Crunchyroll a partire da aprile 2023.

Ricordo che questa nuova fonte di pucciosità e wholesomeness è targata, ovviamente, DOGA KOBO (My Senpai is Annoying, Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie) e in produzione dietro alla regia di Sumie Noro (Toku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru - Setsugetsuka - Hana no Maki).

Della sceneggiatura si sta occupando Yuka Yamada (Slow Loop, Asteroid in Love) e il character design è curato da Hiromi Nakagawa (WATATEN! An Angel Flew Down to Me).

Santa Cecilia è amata da tutti i cittadini: non solo è sempre calma e gentile, ma condivide benevolmente la sua saggezza con tutti coloro che la cercano. Tuttavia, questo lavoro la affatica rapidamente. Questo, unito alla sua natura un po’ indolente, la porta spesso ad oziare. Per fortuna c’è il buon Pastore Lawrence che si prende cura di lei e della chiesa.  I due sono molto amici, ma quando i sentimenti per Lawrence della ragazza andranno oltre l'amicizia, come reagirà quest'ultimo?

Il manga viene serializzato sulle pagine della rivista Shonen Magazine R dal 2017 e per ora conta 10 volumetti.

Riposarsi durante il weekend is for boys, riempire il blog di news is for men. Aniplex quest’anno non si è proprio risparmiata: durante la live dell’Aniplex Online Fest 2022, infatti, ha sfoderato un bel po’ di annunci e nuovi trailer. 

Come al solito in questi casi, ho cercato di tenermi sul minimal, ma preparatevi comunque a scrollare parecchio!

Per iniziare, è stato mostrato un nuovo breve teaser della serie animata, che andrà in onda nel 2023 e adatterà completamente il popolare manga di Hajime Koumoto, edito in Italia da Star Comics.

Con il video è stato svelato che l’anime sta venendo diretto da Tomoya Tanaka (Engage Kiss, Visual Prison), presso lo studio A-1 PICTURES (Lycoris Recoil, Sword Art Online: Progressive).

Diretta da Morio Asaka (Chihayafuru, Card Captor Sakura: Clear Card) e realizzata dallo studio MADHOUSE (Overlord, Police in a Pod), la serie debutterà nel corso del 2023.

🔶🔸 FATE/STRANGE FAKE: WHISPERS OF DAWN

Finalmente, per il nuovo special di Capodanno del franchise Fate, si andrà a pescare nientemeno che dalla novel spinoff firmata da Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!, Baccano!, Bleach: Can’t Fear Your Own World).

La storia segue una Guerra per il Santo Graal ambientata nella città di Snowfield, situata nella costa ovest degli Stati Uniti.

L’episodio, prodotto da A-1 PICTURES (Lycoris Recoil, Sword Art Online: Progressive), sarà diretto da Shun Enokido e Takahito Sakazume, che hanno entrambi già lavorato agli spot per Fate/Grand Order.

🔶🔸 RASCAL DOES NOT DREAM OF

La serie di light novel nata dalla penna di Hajime Kamoshida (di cui J-POP Manga ha portato in Italia il fumetto) ispirerà un nuovo progetto d’animazione, che stavolta andrà ad adattare l’8° e il 9° volume, intitolati rispettivamente “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out” e “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid”.

L’adattamento sarà nuovamente prodotto presso CLOVERWORKS (My Dress-Up Darling, Akebi’s Sailor Uniform) e diretto da Soichi Masui, che si è già occupato in precedenza della serie tv e del film. 

🔶🔸 TOMO-CHAN IS A GIRL!

Nuovo breve promo anche per la serie animata dedicata a tutti i tomboy lover, tratta dal popolare manga di Fumita Yanagida.

L’adattamento targato LAY-DUCE (Heroines Run the Show, O Maidens in Your Savage Season) e diretto da Hitoshi Nanba (Golden Kamuy), con l’aiuto di Noriko Hashimoto (Heroines Run the Show) arriverà in simulcast su Crunchyroll da gennaio 2023.

🔶🔸 NIER AUTOMATA VER1.1A

Parlando sempre di palati raffinati, sono arrivate anche novità riguardo alla serie animata, basata sull’ultimo capolavoro sfornato da Yoko Taro e Platinum Games. 

Assieme alle prima immagini e a due brevi character video, è stato confermato che l’anime arriverà a gennaio 2023 e sarà realizzato presso A-1 PICTURES (Lycoris Recoil, Sword Art Online: Progressive).

Non solo, a dirigere l’adattamento c’è Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, Hello WeGo!), che inoltre ne cura anche la sceneggiatura con l’aiuto di Yoko Taro in persona.

🔶🔸 AYAKASHI TRIANGLE

Ancora nessun trailer per la serie animata tratta dalla nuova commedia romantica firmata da Kentaro Yabuki, il celebre illustratore dei manga di “To-Love Ru” e “Darling in the FranXX”, nonché autore di “Black Cat”. in Italia, grazie a .

In compenso sono stati confermati il debutto per gennaio 2023 e il cast principale:

Ricomparsa anche la nuova serie animata di “Rurouni Kenshin” (conosciuto anche come Kenshin Samurai Vagabondo), che nel 2023 riporterà in tv la celebre opera di Nobuhiro Watsuki.

Lo studio TROYCA (Bloom Into You, IDOLiSH7) realizzerà una serie animata, basata sulla visual novel sviluppata da Frontwing e Makura, pubblicata da Aniplex.exe.

La regia è affidata a Makoto Katou (Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note, Bloom Into You), mente della sceneggiatura si occuperà Jukki Hanada (A Place Further Than The Universe, Love Live! Superstar!!).

🔶🔸 THE MISFIT OF DEMON KING ACADEMY II

Svelato il primo trailer ufficiale per la seconda stagione della serie animata, basata sulla light novel fantasy di Shuu.

Il sequel, il cui debutto è previsto per gennaio 2023, vede lo stesso staff della prima stagione al lavoro presso lo studio SILVER LINK (Non Non Biyori, BoFuri).

🔶🔸 EISEN FLÜGEL 

Tra i numerosi progetti, lo studio A-1 PICTURES (Lycoris Recoil, Sword Art Online: Progressive) ha in cantiere anche un film d’animazione basato sull’originale novel del 2009, scritta da Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, Psycho-Pass) . 

Alla regia troviamo Daizen Komatsuda (Bubuki Buranki), mentre la sceneggiatura è curata da Yukie Sugawara (Overlord) assieme a Seiji Mizushima (Expelled from Paradise), che fra l’altro supervisiona tutta la produzione.

🔶🔸 BERSERK: THE GOLDEN AGE ARC - MEMORIAL EDITION

Mostrato anche un trailer per l’edizione in formato televisivo dei tre film dell’Epoca D’Oro, che verrà trasmessa in simulcast da Crunchyroll a partire dal 1 ottobre.

Questa versione dell’adattamento targato STUDIO 4°C (La Fortuna di Nikuko, I Figli del Mare) dovrebbe contenere qualche scena inedita e delle nuove musiche, fra sigle e insert song.

🔶🔸 BLEACH: THOUSAND-YEAR BLOOD WAR

Arrivato infine anche un nuovo promo per l’attesissima nuova stagione conclusiva di “Bleach”, che partirà dal 10 ottobre in Giappone e andrà in onda per ben quattro cour, inframezzati da delle pause.

Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru Anime Film Offers Bonus Shikishi-Style Cards Featuring Junichiro Taniguchi Art

  May 20 marks the premiere of the first part of the Toku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru ~Setsugetsuka~ anime film trilogy, and theatergoers will be treated to something special as an incentive. Theatrical bonuses include shikishi-style cards featuring the art of character designer and chief animation director Junichiro Taniguchi, who has worked on all of the previous series.

  Different illustrations will be available depending on when fans see the movie, starting with a pair of illustrations from the first week of May 20 to May 26.

    Following two seasons of the Touken Ranbu - Hanamaru TV anime in 2016 and 2018, the film project was announced in February 2021. Throughout the three chapters, 24 new sword boys will be introduced, for a total of 86 sword boys.

  After the first chapter, the second—"Tsuki no Maki (Chapter Moon)"—directed by Tomoaki Koshida (TV series second season director) and the third—"Hana no Maki (Chapter Flower)"—directed by Sumie Noro (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle assistant director) will follow on July 8 and September 1, respectively.
