I really hope I’ve done alright. I think this will actually be my first time writing for Chihiro. It’s occurred to me that I’ve never written for him before!!

• it kind of scares her at first and she gets defensive since she’s really not expecting it

• “wait… so this isn’t some cruel joke? you ACTUALLY wanna get closer to me?”

• ngl she’d probably faint if you held her, falling over and tripping on her words

• she can be kind of awkward sometimes but she’ll eventually get better with enough time

• her favorite thing are forehead kisses because they’re so gentle and make her melt

You were in disbelief over what you had come across just minutes ago, the ultimate writing prodigy, Toko Fukawa, had been killed and you were investigating her murder with Chihiro.

"D-do you think Mondo d-did this..?" The programmer worried, nervously glancing around the room.

"Maybe, but we need to gather evidence that proves he did it if it's him. It may be someone else after all." You gave the monokuma file a quick check, Toko was murdered at approximately 2am, around the same time you encountered your boyfriend and Mondo. Things were adding up to the biker, which fueled your anxious feeling. Mondo still hadn't shown up at that point either.

"The victim died due to blunt force trauma to the head. The murder weapon seems to be that dumbell." Kyoko pointed toward the dumbell, drenched in Toko's blood. Possibly the same one Mondo had used to attack your love.

You could feel the hand holding yours shaking, Chihiro wasn't doing too well.

"Let's go somewhere more calm." Wrapping an arm around him, you lead your boyfriend to the dining hall. You let him cry onto your shoulder, seeing someone else dead was too much for him.

"S/O, w-will we be a-able to find the k-killer?" The frightened programmer looked up at you, waiting to hear your words of comfort and support.

"I know we will, love, I believe in us. I'll do everything I can to help out too." You pet his hair as he lay his head on your shoulder, enjoying the peace for the time being. You knew there wasn't much time left until the trial, the bear would pop up on the screen with his announcement any second now.

"You're right, S/O. I-I love you.." The programmer gave a content sigh, knowing he was safe with you, though still hoping he could keep you safe as well.

"Alright ya kiddos, it's time for the main event! Gather in the elevator for the class trial!" The sadistic teddy made his awaited announcement, causing everyone to grow uneasy, as they head toward the elevator.

"Let's go, my dear, I'll make sure we avenge Toko by voting her killer." You told your darling Chihiro as you both joined the others. Everyone was at the elevator doors now, even the biker you were afraid to encounter again. Taka had been trying to get his attention, but Mondo stood in the corner, staring at the floor. As far as you know, he's the most likely culprit.

Chihiro hugged you tight, nervous for what could happen in the dreaded trial. You were certain though, that you'd do everything in your power to keep your boyfriend safe. For Chihiro, the feeling was mutual. As everyone wordlessly boarded the elevator, you looked around at the others, especially Mondo, who you were certain had something to do with it. You weren't sure how at the moment, but you promised to yourself and your lover that you would expose the blackened, so you made sure you investigated well enough.

It was time for the awaited class trial, let's hope you're ready.

Hi! Aspiring voice actor here, what kind of voices would you imagine each of the characters for "I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl" to have?

Good question! I actually have no idea. Or at least I’m having a hard time explaining it hahaha

For Hoshi I go between a BMO-esque voice or more silly like the rotom dex in Sun and Moon

Zira I’m thinking stutter-y and softer. This might just be bc Toko Fukawa was an inspiration for her design but honestly like a higher register Toko would be accurate

And Aika I have no idea. I feel like it’s so hard to nail down main characters. It’d be a higher voice for sure. Very chipper and happy but also sounds good lower for when she’s in magical girl mode and not invested LMAO

♡ She’s a little uncomfortable, but if she really didn’t want you sleeping on her; she’d do something about it.

Again, there are a few notes throughout to explain some things I thought most would not know or just to clarify things changed in localization. Also, if you are disappointed by the three nearly empty rooms, the girls’ cottages in 2 will hopefully make up for it.

Maizono-san's Room Edition

Popular idols say that they have such a harsh schedule that they can’t even get a good night’s sleep. The bleak room Maizono-san has makes me think about that a little.

Checkpoints: A: It’s a bed with pink sheets, which are common in girls’ rooms. The fact she makes her bed after waking up shows she has a methodical personality.

B: I thoughtfully placed a sewing set in the drawer! Wouldn’t you like to see the girls try at least one kind of needlework?

C: I am a gentlemanly bear, so I don’t look into girls’ trash cans, rummage through them, open them up, sniff them, or put them in my mouth, that's correct.

D: The girls’ shower rooms are locked! No matter how much fun the girls are having in the dorm life, as long as I’m alive I will not tolerate any insolence!

Kirigiri-san's Room Edition

Ah, this again. Following Maizono-san, Kirigiri-san is also plain and simple. Hey, hey, you’re a girl, aren’t you? Wouldn’t it be better if you had a bit more girly flair?

Checkpoints: A: Kirigiri-san’s bed looks like it would smell nice. Imagining a prickly girl like her sleeping defenseless makes me feel protective.

B: It’s a desk for studying, just like everyone else’s. Including Kirigiri-san, I can’t imagine most of the students sitting here.

C: A surveillance camera is common for all rooms. But, to the cool Kirigiri-san, my gaze seems to have no more value than a bug.

D: Oh! Sorry, I forgot to prepare a trash can for you! But beautiful girls don’t blow their noses, so it’s okay!

Asahina-san's Room Edition

This room gives the impression that someone loves exercising, whether awake or asleep. With all these training items, it’s like a small gym. I’d like to see Asahina-san use it too. Upupu.

Checkpoints: A: A stepper for training the lower body and a roller for abdominal muscles. The roller particularly is inexpensive but highly effective. It’s okay to kneel at first.

B: It's a balance ball that helps you train your core body on a daily basis. It's pretty fun, isn't it? Oh, and you can't miss the school swimsuits hanging out to dry!

C: Unfortunately, There’s nothing as simple and effective as a training tube! I can’t use it because my arms and legs aren’t long enough...

D: Bottles for hydration and a first aid kit. She’s so well prepared and considerate in case of emergencies, I bet she’ll be a great wife with lots of children. Note: Anytime someone makes a joke about the bad ending, an angel loses its wings.

Fukawa-san's Room Edition

As expected of someone called a literary girl, she has an incredible amount of books. With the books being piled up around the bed and desk, you can tell what kind of reading she does. Note: Toko’s Japanese talent is “Literary Girl”.

Checkpoints: A: As you can see, this desk is a built-in piece of furniture with a fairly thin top, so I wonder if it will be able to withstand the weight of all these things piled up...

B: The windows are bolted down securely! ...but that doesn’t seem to concern Fukawa-san. She has manuscript papers pasted all over the window. Boo hoo. Note: Monokuma uses the word “しょぼーん” which is commonly associated with the kaomoji  (´・ω・`).

C: Placing books in front of the shower room means you can read during toilet time! You’re addicted to always learning. Note: I think there's a pun here but I don't know if it's intended. The word for reading is “dokusho” and the word for addict is “chuudokusha”.

D: At first glance, it may look like a rose in a vase, but it is actually an air freshener stick. She’s confessed to hating baths, so she has to be careful about the smell.

Genocider Sho’s Room Check!

Fukawa-san's Room Edition

This is the room of the woman I share my body with! A pungent smell of no libido! Perfect for a sullen faced, nail-biting, gloomy introvert! Kyehahaha!!

Checkpoints: A: There are so many books at my feet... It will get in the way when Byakuya-sama is brought over! Clean it up a bit!

B: I must be nearsighted, writing all these small letters little by little in such a dark place. As I thought, this woman is weird! I need to bathe in the light of passionate love!

C: Wait! There’s no sign of it being used recently! I could end up in bed with Byakuya-sama at any moment, so I have to at least take a bath!

D: Ah! A green and white bouquet. It’s specifically for weddings! Wait for me, Byakuya-sama! I’ll grab this now and dive into your body!

Oogami-san's Room Check

The strongest primate is the ogre... this is Oogami-san’s room. It makes it clear if you end up killing each other, she won’t let you get away with it. But please don’t destroy the room.

Checkpoints: A: For tile splitting demonstrations, usually they use tiles that are easier to break. But Oogami-san’s tiles are the real deal. Note: Tile splitting is the same thing as board breaking in martial arts.

B: Excuse me... Of course, it’s okay to do training in your room, but there’s no need to drill holes in the floor!? Someone will have to repair it.

C: This is Ogami-san’s uniform. I don’t really get a chance to see her wearing this. How about we go hand-to-hand again? Upupupu.

D: Seriously, this area is littered with broken tile debris too. This may cause the floor to collapse or leak, I don’t know!

Celesomething-san's Room Check (This is how Monokuma refers to Celeste)

The dark interior gives off a sense of immorality and makes me super thrilled! Since all students received a private room, it would be pointless to not enjoy it this much.

Checkpoints: A: The dresses on the mannequin torsos are changes of clothes. The short-sleeved frilled one and the bustier style look good together, don’t you think?

B: Umm... is Celesomething-san planning to sleep here forever? Of course, I have no intention of interfering with personal hobbies and preferences.

C: Oh my! A goth lolita costume’s cat! It is cute, but you can’t compete with me, who is both cute and a little mean.

D: The desk is full of makeup supplies. The brush size and type, how to use different sprays, these are things boys don’t understand.

Enoshima-san's (Mukuro’s) Room Check

Ah, what a shame! Enoshima-san is a charismatic high school girl! Even if you aren’t interested, just play a character! Seriously, what a shame!

Checkpoints: A: Oops, I forgot to bring pink sheets for this girls’ room. She doesn’t seem to mind though.

B: Everyone is treated equally, so the windows in Enoshima-san’s room are completely blocked off too. I hope you enjoy your killing game school life to the fullest.

C: Saying you can’t sleep if you change your pillow is what a coward who is completely immersed in a comfortable life would say. You have to live in the environment you’re given. Note: "I can't sleep when the pillow changes" just means that you can't do something if it's not to your liking. It's not usually a metaphor but here it is used like one, while also being literal.

D: You guys all agreed to meet in the dining hall, but it’s okay if you seclude yourself here and eat, you know? Eating alone isn’t that bad, right?

Also just the thought of them tag teaming in each class trial is really appealing to me............ but how would that even work? maybe in an au where Monokuma gathers all the past killing game survivors for one last killing game? but ough that's just so tragic............ but at the same time can you imagine them taking turns in pairing up together?? investigating together?? 🥹

First of all, of course I love them as a ship! I already like Hinaegi and Naehara separately, and Hinahara would also be a fun combination, with Hajime's steady abrasiveness and Shuichi's more precise, infrequent abrasiveness in-between bouts of malleability.

As for that specific scenario:

Oh my gosh, first of all, I'm going to say for this AU that despite the 77th class all having been brought back after SDR2, only the survivors of that game are in this new killing game. For V3 I'm going to say that was also a simulation, specifically so Kaito and Kokichi can get pulled in on some technicality about their case being inconclusive.

Now, you may look at this as me very specifically targeting the trauma of the THH cast, since they're the only ones whose entire friend group is in the killing game.

Anyway, I'm also going to say everyone's memory is erased except the protags, because whoever set this up is doing it as a specific torture of them. This means we have pre-character development Maki, Fuyuhiko, Byakuya, etc. in play, and if the protagonists try to impress upon them that they're already friends, they just get extremely suspicious and defensive.

Naturally, this means the protagonists all huddle up together right away.

"Alright, who's doing this one?" Makoto wonders.

"I don't know," Hajime says.

"You don't know?" Shuichi repeats in dismay. "You're from the Future Foundation and you're from Ultimate Despair. I thought one of you would have some idea."

"Whoever it is, we're not in a simulation right now," Hajime says.

"You're sure?" Makoto says.

"Positive."

"That's...worse, but...we know our friends. Whoever let us keep our memories did it to hurt us, but we know our friends."

(Hajime levels a sympathetic look on Makoto.)

"Knowing someone doesn't help you stop them from killing, if they feel they have a reason," Shuichi says quietly, thinking of Maki. "And the mastermind is in charge of giving people reasons."

"I probably could have re-befriended my friends the slow way, if I'd caught on faster that they didn't remember me," Makoto sighs. "Now, I weirded them out, and it'll be a lot harder."

"That's okay. You can actually branch out," Hajime suggests. "You should talk to Fuyuhiko and...Yumeno. Those are good matches for you. Once you've gotten to know them, I think Hagakure is also still an option; he's more interested in your seemingly supernatural insights than anything, though aligning yourself with him might not legitimize you in the eyes of Kirigiri, Togami, or Fukawa. I can reason with those three. Shuichi should spend time with Akane and Asahina."

"Then, what about Sonia, Kaito, Maki, Kazuichi, and Kokichi?" Makoto asks.

"Focus on your two for now, okay?"

It is a good idea, and they do mesh well with those groupings, but of course things don't go entirely to plan.

And of course, whenever something terrible happens, they retreat to each other's arms. They're all protective of each other, and they're all protective of their own friends, and the potential for hurt/comfort is matched only by the potential for messiness when some of them have to prioritize who they most want to protect.

Hajime's many talents are, of course, an asset, but if he knows multiple people are in danger at once and he can't save all of them, he's prioritizing his friends (which include Makoto and Shuichi) over their friends and might even have to do a trolley-problem-style switcheroo where Toko dies in Sonia's stead or something of the sort. He wasn't the one to kill her, but he decided who he was more willing to lose.

Shuichi would be willing to lie in the trials, and Kokichi would notice, and Kyoko would probably also notice. Hajime would back up Shuichi's lies when he knows he can get away with it and contradict them when he knows he can't. Makoto would not lie because he finds it really important that everyone is able to trust each other.

Kaito might punch Fuyuhiko in the face at some point. That would go really poorly. Or maybe he tries to punch Fuyuhiko in the face but Makoto's in the way and gets punched instead, solidifying Fuyuhiko's bond with Makoto because now he's got to teach this guy a lesson for effing with both of them! (Kaito is sorry, but like...not sorry enough?)

And Makoto (who passes out on impact, btw; his character development didn't involve not passing out when he gets punched in the face) is just like "No, you don't have to do anything to Kaito!" while Fuyuhiko is all "Sit down and let me handle this."

Makoto realizes, over the course of calming his friend down, that Hajime set both him and Shuichi up with people who could and would protect them from physical threats. He always thought of it as Hajime trusting him to keep Fuyuhiko out of trouble and trusting Shuichi to keep Akane out of trouble, but in a way, he's also trusting his friends to keep Makoto and Shuichi safe.

The day Maki dies or gets executed (I'm sorry, there's no way she sruvives this one.), Shuichi sleeps in Makoto's bed, crying into his chest. Hajime intuits where they both are and brings them food. He wants to curl up on Makoto's other side, but he has to keep watch over the school. There are too many people they can't afford to lose.

(A version of this same AU where it is a simulation is also on the table. In that case, Hajime wouldn't have any Kamukura Project stuff in his head and also motives like Despair Disease could happen.)

Toko never cared that much for art. It was fine and all, but it just wasn't for her. She never understood the appeal of going to museums to stare at mindless pieces when she could just stay home and be productive with her writing instead.

But that changed when she met you.

She had heard your name around Hope's Peak, and she had passed by you in the hallways once or twice. You were known as the Ultimate Artist, and of course, Toko wasn't remotely interested in anything you did. But as she strolled through the hallway one day, she stopped.

You had set up an art stand outside of one of the classrooms on the third floor, and students were lining up in front. You had your art set up for them to buy, and you even had prices for commissions, so they could pay for custom art if they wanted to. And surprisingly, the art caught Toko's eye.

Your pieces weren't like those mindless paintings from museums; the ones that made no sense to Toko, and honestly looked like they were painted by five-year olds.

No. Your art was stylized, and it looked simpler than museum pieces, but that was exactly what appealed to Toko. Nothing was abstract or all over the place, and she could comprehend it even if she took her glasses off.

For once, she actually understood why people were willing to pay for art. She ignored the ringing bell and lingered around the hallway until the line died down, and she walked up and approached your stand. You were friendly and polite as you greeted her and asked what she wanted to buy.

The second you asked that, she drew a blank. She felt like her brain was suddenly on autopilot when she approached your stand, and she couldn't figure out what to say. Should she compliment your art? Should she buy something?

After stressing and working up a sweat as the silent pressure started to get to her, she suddenly pointed at one of your pieces and blurted out, "Th-That one!"

You looked surprised and mildly confused, but packaged up the piece before giving her the price. It was surprisingly reasonable, almost too cheap for what she was paying for. But she paid for the piece and left after stuttering out a "thank you."

After that, she started spending more time around you. She started with buying commissions of some of her book characters, then she recruited you to work as the artist for her books. It was a lovely partnership, and over time, it developed into something more. Not only did you teach Toko the value and appeal of art, but you taught her the meaning of genuine love.

Things were perfect for the two of you, but after some time, you ran into a casualty. You decided to expand your talent of drawing and painting to sculpting, and as you were helping your client carry an incredibly heavy piece, your grip slipped and the clay piece fell down and crushed your hand.

You forced a pained and awkward smile and played it off to your worried client before rushing to the school nurse, who then proceeded to call the hospital. Your hand was set and wrapped in a cast, and the doctor gave you an estimate of 5-6 weeks to heal, but advised you not to use that hand for any activity.

After hearing that, your heart sank, and the pain in your hand was somehow washed away by dread. It didn't help that the broken hand was your dominant hand, meaning that you couldn't draw with it. You couldn't take commissions, and the ones you were already working on had to be put on hold.

You were already imagining how your clients would react. Angry, disappointed, constantly blowing up your social media asking for updates. The thought of seeing their disappointed faces after you told them crushed you.

Toko rushed into the office with a fearful expression, and after telling her about your worries, her reaction wasn't the most supportive.

"Y-You broke your hand, and you're w-worried about drawing?! F-Forget the stupid art, that's not wh-what's important right now!"

She was only acting out of worry, though she couldn't imagine how she would feel if she was unable to write. Seeing tears in your eyes, she let out a sigh before sitting down next to you and taking your good hand in hers. "S-Sorry. I know it's d-difficult, but you'll be fine. Once your h-hand heals up, you'll b-be able to get back to your j-job in no time."

You hoped she was right. The day after that was the beginning of the longest and most agonizing weeks of your life. You bit the bullet and told your clients about your hiatus, and they were understanding and wished for you to get better, though you were still worried about disappointing them.

You also spoke to the headmaster and he gave you a pass from uploading your art onto the Hope's Peak website as your hand was healing, since it was required to prove the legitimacy of your Ultimate Talent.

Alongside your stress about your commissions, you were also restless. You were growing antsy without something to do with your hands, and even though Toko tried to lift your spirits by talking about her new characters and even taking you to a museum, all it did was fill you with inspiration that you couldn't act on.

Out of desperation, you tried learning to draw with your other hand, and you were even tempted to draw with your broken hand anyway, even though Toko sternly dissuaded you from that. Nothing worked, and all you could do was keep your patience.

Once the day came to get the cast removed, you were ecstatic. Finally, you would be able to resume your passion, and you couldn't stop thinking of all the drawing exercises you would do to make up for lost time, and in case you had gotten rusty. But you were discouraged from drawing for at least a few days to not strain your hand too much, which was somewhat disappointing, but you were at least grateful to have it back to normal, or so you thought.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Even after you could use your hand again, it gave you horrible cramps. The doctor had warned you that it was possible, considering the way the bones were injured, but the pain was so unbearable that you couldn't even focus.

You got a wrist brace for your hand, and you even tried physical therapy to help it move, but nothing seemed to work. You talked to the headmaster and received another extension of two weeks from uploading your art, and you did everything you could think of to fix your hand. But after a week and a half passed, you were called to the headmaster's office.

You were nervous as you dragged your feet up the stairs to meet him. The extension wasn't over yet, so you were confused about why he wanted to see you. Did he just want to check on you? Was there an issue with the website? Did he maybe even want to make the extension longer?

Soon, you walked in and sat down in front of Headmaster Kirigiri's desk. He greeted you with a curt nod as he fixed you with a serious expression. "Hello, Mr./Miss (Name). So, how is your hand doing?"

You hesitated to answer, and looked down to avoid his searing gaze. Your first indistinct was to lie and say that it was great, but if he asked why you hadn't uploaded any new art, you would be in trouble.

"Well, um... It still cramps up whenever I use it." Your voice was small as you forced yourself to meet his gaze, and he simply blinked in response.

"Are you still able to create art?" You winced as you felt the pressure growing, and you looked down again as you gave your answer.

"Um, no, not at the moment... But sir, the extension isn't--"

"I decided to call it off early. Unless you're confident that you'll be able to continue making art in the four days you have remaining."

You looked back at him in shock. "Early? I don't understand..."

"I'm going to be frank with you. We recently scouted another talented artist from another school. If you're unable to perform, you will be relinquished from your status as the Ultimate Artist and it will be passed to them."

You felt your eyes well up with tears as you processed this. "Another artist? Who is it?"

"I won't be naming names, but if you aren't able to continue making art at the end of the four days, I'll be forced to strip you of your Ultimate Talent. Do you think you can do it?"

You looked away without an answer as the tears began to stream down your cheeks. As much as you wanted to say that you could, and beg Headmaster Kirigiri to give you another extension, you already knew that your time as the Ultimate Artist was over.

Taking your silence as confirmation, Kirigiri continued. "Listen. I think that you're a talented artist, and you still have the potential to succeed. But you must understand, Hope's Peak Academy is not just an average high school. It's designed for the most elite and gifted of students, and I'm afraid that if you're unqualified, there just isn't a place for you. Whenever a tool breaks, you don't use it anymore, right? Or in this, a paintbrush, I suppose. You simply find another. Do you understand?"

You shakily nodded without a word, and you were soon given the resignation forms to sign, signalling that you were officially forfeiting your Ultimate Talent, your dorm, and your place at Hope's Peak Academy.

You soon returned to your dorm to spend your final night at the school, and the next morning, you began packing up your things. Soon, there was a knock on the door, and Toko walked in. After seeing what you were doing, she looked at you in confusion.

"Wh-What the heck are you doing?" You turned to her with a dull expression. "I'm packing all my things. I'm leaving the school."

"Why?!" You turned away in response, doing your best to hold back tears. "Mr. Kirigiri is kicking me out. If I can't make art anymore, then I can't stay."

Toko stared at you in shock before clenching her jaw in anger as her hands started to shake." Wh-What?! Th-That's ridiculous! You still have f-four days left on the extension, c-counting today!"

You continued to pack up your things, still doing your best to keep your composure. "It's not enough time, Toko. Even if my hand is capable of healing all the way, I'm useless if I can't do anything. So they're giving the talent to someone else."

"D-Don't say that, dummy! You're not useless! And wh-why are you just a-accepting it?! Why are you j-just giving up your t-talent to some rando out there?!"

You paused and slowly turned to look at her, and at that point, your tears finally released from your eyes. "When a paintbrush breaks, I don't use it anymore. I just get another one and keep working like nothing happened. It's the same thing for me. If I can't draw, I can't be here. That's all there is to it. There's nothing I can do."

Toko fell silent as she stared at you in surprise, and she looked away with a look of sorrow in her eyes before muttering that she would visit you after school. Soon, you got all your things together, and left the dorm without another word.

Toko did keep her promise, and came to visit you after school every night. Sometimes, you even spent the night together, though she still returned to the dorm to avoid going to her own house.

Even though Toko did her best, you knew the arrangement would decline. You knew that she would be busy with her writing and schoolwork, and wouldn't always have the time to visit every night. Kirigiri did give you permission to visit school grounds, but you weren't allowed to stay during the evening.

It was just as difficult for Toko, too. She missed visiting you in your lab every day, working together with you on her books. She missed seeing the bright smile on your face as you advertised your art in the halls. The new Ultimate Artist had a pleasant and sunny attitude, but Toko wanted nothing to do with her. No one could ever replace you, and she despised the headmaster for what he did.

You still continued physical therapy, and continued doing hand exercises, though it made very little progress. In the end, you knew that nothing would be the same after the injury, but you could only hope that it would change for the better as time passed.
