THE PLAY IS HERE!!!
Hanajima as Cinderella is so hilarious
Hana-chan and Tohru having tea because they adore each other. And then Tohru is taken hostage by the step mom to force 'Cinderella' to finish making the dresses for the ball.
Hanajima - My beloved sister has been taken because of some royal's ball. I hate him forever. Narrator - And so Cinderella fell in love with the prince.
Yuki as the Fairy Godmother. I see his brother's work in that outfit. hehehe
Yuki - You may have any wish granted. Hanajima - Really? Burn down the ballroom. Yuki - Thaaat's a crime, how about something else.
Yuki - What is your wish? Hanajima - I want... Yuki - To attend the ball? Okay. Narrator - Thanks to the Fairy Godmother's adherence to the script, Cinderella attended the ball.
Uo and the narrator bullying Kyo into dancing with Hanajima, so funny. She refuses and he's so releaved.
Hanajima - Here's my shoe, I'm leaving now.
Uo - You should use this shoe to find her. Kyo - How about no?
Hanajima - I know why you're here. Clearly you're here to ask for my sister's hand in marriage. *hugs Tohru*
The play turning oddly personal because Hanajima gets weird about her waves off Kyo and Kyo just... going with it... and Kyo finally realizes that Tohru genuinely doesn't want Kyo to disappear after graduation.
Yuki - *pops up to try and salvage things* Hanajima - My loyal servant. Yuki - I am not your servant. Now what to do you really want? Hanajima - I want to run a shop with my sister. Yuki - Cool, the prince will bankroll it. Kyo - Aren't you supposed to grant the wishes? Yuk- I won't ask what you want. *menacing Kyo for the fun of it* You'll have to figure it out on your own.
Narrator - *rolling on it*
Hanajima and Tohru's characters are definitely having some kind of lesbian happy ending there, I was soooo right.
And then just to really freak Kyo out a little more, Hanajima deliberately starts flirting with Kyo's adoptive father after the play is over. Right in front of him.
Seriously, everyone is basically bi on this anime.

briefly elaborating bc i was thinking about transmasc tohru, when i say trans tohru i generally mean transfem tohru (which requires a little suspension of disbelief/reworking because i think she is the way she is in large part because she is “socialized” as a girl in the show. well ok no i don’t rlly like this term but what i mean is she is so evidently treated as a girl since childhood SO not that this invalidates the possibility of her being a trans girl but yknow. its requires some extra reworking and examining the story that i actually find super rewarding ^_^ still the more interesting interpretation imo), but transmasc tohru i think has me feelings things in a different direction. i don’t think he would ever realize. legitimately if tohru was transmasc he would be an egg forever. if he did realize it would be late enough into his life that he just wouldn’t bother identifying as such. but i think so much of her worldview is kind of tied to her idolization of kyoko and then to her traditionally feminine relationships w the sohmas that she just. couldn’t. fathom it. you know
a lot of tohru as a character is about performing womanhood, but like, it’s not womanhood that she wants (i don’t actually think she feels very in touch with her femininity, she’s not comfortable in it because she’s just… not comfortable with hwrself in the first place). it’s just that the kind of person she wants to be is portrayed and perceived in a very gendered way, even though a lot of her key traits in how she presents are inspired by her dad, not kyoko. am i making sense? the gendered aspect of her kind and nurturing personality is something that’s imposed on her. the connection is just so ingrained in her and everyone around her of the social mechanics of Being A Woman, it gets projected on top of what she really wants (to prove her value according to what she thinks her mom would have wanted, and then her depression will be cured… right? 😰) but at the same time, she is genuinely striving for a femininity that will allow her to feel happy and loved, a kind of femininity that can’t just come from imitating her mother, one that increasingly comes with capitulations and threats and implications for life with the sohmas but is nonetheless worth pursuing. her achieving this is still framed as her becoming a pseudo-mother and a wife, which is. uh. Complicated. but it’s a femininity that she achieves independently through her own strength, which is what’s important there.
thinking about how she can connect with her femininity in a positive and freeing way as opposed to a way that is obviously portrayed as ceding to societal expectations feels more in line with her desires imo and it’s a better engagement with like. what furuba is about. what it’s saying about gender. it says a lot of stuff. i need to reread the manga. but i think its very reasonable to take it in the opposite direction. i think tohru would probably need to Know A Trans Man to ever realize. maybe in a world where akito was a trans man…….. akito gender confuses me though i can’t say whether it would have been more appropriate thematically to make them trans, but furuba obviously has a track record with introducing extremely transgender characters and then having them return to the status quo/theyre “real” gender at the end to signify their happiness. ugh. well i don’t really care about akito that much to be completely honest. but if he was a trans guy. maybe tohru could realize that’s a thing he can also do. maybe.
anyway, i’ve kind of talked about enby yuki before. he has some gender shit to work about. i think i’ve talked about trans butch kyo too. i mean that ones kind of obvious do i even need to explain myself? look at her. that’s a lesbian
Tumblr media
if you can’t accept that tohru kyo and yuki are all trans then don’t even talk to me u_u

i love how we’re supposed to believe that it’s called ‘Fruits Basket’ because of some game that Tohru plays as a child when in fact it is because every single character is some shade of gay

What was the investigation team up to during Persona 5? (time for an excuse for yukichie 4 years after P4)
This was just an excuse for me to talk about my headcanons for what the IT is like as adults thank you anon
Yukiko and Chie are of course running the Amagi Inn together because Yukiko did not let Chie become a cop fuck that. Also she’s still running her weed business on the side so she can’t really have a cop in her house now can she?
Yukiko and Chie are just known as The Lesbians that run the Inn now and are adored by everyone.
Yukiko is kind of obsessed with the phantom thieves but Chie just writes it off as another weird Yukiko phase and figures it’ll pass.
Naoto is back and forth between Inaba and the city working on cases and helping out where he’s needed. He works with the police much less after the end of P4 because…being involved with Tohru Adachi would give anyone trust issues. Naoto is now less concerned about keeping his star detective image by solving high profile cases and focuses more on just using his skills to help people in any way.
Naoto was actually in Tokyo while the world was falling apart but chose to ignore it because he’s “getting too old for this shit”. Sir you are like 22
We all know Rise releases a new album during the year P5 takes place due to posters and ads so she’s probably on tour and being an absolute queen. But no matter how busy she is, she always makes a point to take a few seconds to text her friends at least once a day.
Kanji’s selling plushies like a madman so his mom can retire fully. Also Tatsumi textiles is a favorite hangout place for children now much to his dismay. He’s still absolutely huge and even bulkier than he was as a teenager so he’s pretty much a walking tractor making little beanie babies.
Yosuke absolutely adored the taste of the idol life he got in P4D so he decided to make music. He’s not very good at singing and is still mediocre at the guitar but he has a lot of fun with it. For his birthday, Rise rented out a recording studio for him for a couple of days and he proceeded to make the shittiest mixtape known to man and tried to sell it outside of Junes.
Teddie doesn’t have any papers or anything so he’s pretty much chained to Junes for the rest of his life. Subsequently, he has also decided to chain himself to Yosuke for the rest of his life and moves out with him later on.
Somehow Teddie accidentally applied to university and got in?? Maybe they were just desperate for admission or something because Teddie wrote his race as “Bear” when he filled out his application. He thought he was signing up for HBO max
Yu has moved back to Inaba for the sole purpose of fishing and Nanako. And teaching Nanako how to fish. His friends too I guess. But he spends most of his time fishing if he’s not doing odd jobs around town for little bits of cash. He doesn’t like change, so he’s pretty much the same Yu he was in high school.
Kanji is still looking for the penguin to this day 😔

Quick question, but in your Lesbian!Kyoru AU, how would Tohru find out fem!Kyo turns into a cat? And how would Tohru react if she thought about the fact that she's falling in love with a woman whose name is similar to her mom's?
well to start with the second question, tohru falling in love with kyo in the actual canon story is already FILLED with mommy issues so i think in a lesbian kyoru AU that just becomes even more obvious hdodjdjdjsjsjj
this is interesting to me because, while the parallels between kyoko and kyo (both in personality and in their place in tohru’s heart) are super clear to the reader imo, i’m not sure it’s ever a similarity that tohru spends a lot of time thinking about herself. uo points out to tohru that they have the same hair color, and there’s also the moment during the “rescue tohru from grandpa’s house” chapter where kyo echoes kyoko’s advice to be selfish sometimes. but god.....no tohru is so repressed i don’t think in canon she really stops to think about this, and if she did she’s not letting herself think about it for long LMFAO
however!! in a lesbian kyoru AU i think those parallels could potentially click even more clearly to tohru in a way that she can’t avoid? it just requires less synthesizing information—or rather, more importantly it’s just so blatant that tohru can’t :)) and pretend she doesn’t notice it......idk i really don’t mean this in a creepy Freudian way where tohru has an Oedipus complex 😭LMFAO but i think it would be neat and poignant to have tohru reflecting on how kyoko’s best qualities are also traits that kyo has (their bluntness, courage, recklessness, hearts of gold, etc.), even if it’s in less obvious or more awkward ways :’)) and the names and similar designs might make that connection more clear for her. as people, i think we are almost cyclically drawn to the same kinds of people, and tohru isn’t an exception. (i mean. kyoko, kyo, rin, uo!! like tohru just has a type of person that she is chronically drawn to lmao)
wrt how she’d react if she thought about this, i think the natural place it would take her is fear. because drawing the connection between kyo and kyoko, even in positive ways, ultimately leads tohru to thinking about her mom’s death, of her mom leaving her. and with that, her overarching fear of losing kyo in the same way follows. these parallels and similarities would add to tohru’s panic about the abandonment just repeating itself over and over, and if anything it would actually intensify both tohru’s desire to break the curse and never let go of her mother’s memory—because if she can let go of her mother and fully love kyo, then that also means that she’d lose kyo and have to inevitably let go of him in the exact same way. so maybe it’s honestly for the best that tohru never dwells on this connection too much in canon, because she’s going through enough emotional trauma as it is and she doesn’t need more LMFAO
coming back to your first question! this is actually something that trips me up about a lesbian kyoru AU because obviously you can’t do the exact same first chapter in this scenario! a thought i had is tweaking the first transformation to be kyo still crashing in, but in the midst of her fighting with yuki—it’s yuki that tohru first crashes into, followed by shigure. to get into kyo’s first transformation, i thought about utilizing the mailman who shows up after that?? maybe kyo fucks up and trips and ends up bumping into the mailman, and that’s how we get kyo to transform as well (you would have to mindwipe the mailman after that i guess but. that’s takaya’s problem not mine right now djdjsjsjjsj) another thought i had was you could even have kyo’s cat form be something that we are only told about but never actually see. it makes me think of how kyo’s true form actually only makes one appearance in furuba, and yet it’s still a fact that looms large over the entire story. also i think that plays into highlighting how, in a lesbian kyoru AU, the curse is not actually the thing keeping them apart!!! it’s the internalized homophobia!!!! those are some of my main ideas for dealing with that change, but if i ever actually wrote a full AU i’d want to explore a bunch of options before settling on the specifics

season 1 episode 14 rewatch! its been a while hasn’t it!
this is momiji’s backstory episode and let me tell you ima cry. his story is probably like the saddest one to me behind yuki and kyo like it rips my heart out
ugh its actually so sad them thinking about how kyoko would love kyo and how she would love the man that tohru ends up with but doesn’t get to see that happen
its also interesting how they tie the anniversary of tohru’s mom’s death with momiji’s story. hana says ‘if tohru died i might want to forget that we ever met’ and momiji has the completely opposite feelings about his mother. he wants to keep all the memories of her even though its incredibly painful. that takes a lot of strength and momiji and tohru are parallels that way. i would be more on hana’s side where i would not want to have to feel the pain at all but tohru and momiji kind of cherish that pain in a way? if that’s not weird to say lol
momiji saying that cleaning up trash is fun lol. also i like how he is trying to play matchmaker saying that kyo should pick her up instead of yuki haha
also a little random detail, its so cute that momiji’s suspenders like don’t fit properly on his shoulders like maybe he got them to try and feel closer to his german side but couldn’t find any his size aw. or its just probably another example of him being small for his age and not like grown up yet like the others but let me imagine lol
ugh momiji’s interaction with his mom makes me want to rip my eyes out like imagine having to interact with a person so close to you that has no idea who you are? like how painful that would be. also its incredible of momiji that he never shows any ill will towards momo even though she gets to live in their little happy family and he doesn’t. ugh momiji. and he doesn’t really feel any resentment towards his mother either like he understands where she’s coming from, even though it is so fundamentally different than the way he thinks. he doesn’t want to forget that pain and uses it to grow.
ugh imagine asking a child to accept his mother forgetting he exists like MOMIJI MY HEART. also his mom is a bitch for saying she regrets giving birth to ‘that creature’ like when she says that he’s like 4 years old like really? in the time of 4 years you couldn’t learn to love the way your child is?
ugh and tohru not caring if anyone sees, she just like needs to hug momiji, i feel that lol. i think its really lovely that tohru kind of finally has someone that understands her in this regard. she spends a lot of time taking care of yuki and  kyo’s feelings and i think its nice that she has someone who understands her healing process and can relate to her in this way. momiji’s mother isn’t dead but he has still lost her and doesn’t want to forget her, just like tohru keeps her mom so close to her, even though its extremely painful to hold onto these horrible memories, but they understand each other in that sense and i don’t think she’s really had anyone yet that can relate her in that way. i love her and momiji’s friendship so much.
oooh that kyo and yuki interaction is very interesting when kyo tells yuki he is also going to the grave. maybe because kyo yelled about yuki at his own mother’s funeral and this kind of brings that all up.
aw yuki reflecting on like how he didn’t even know this girl a year ago and now she has changed his life so significantly, all the while going through incredible pain herself.
kyo being freaked out at eating a picnic in the graveyard and yuki’s look at the ‘camera’ lol.
hana and uo are tohru’s lesbian moms i don’t make the rules
ugh i just love this little found family. they all help each other heal and grow and it just makes me want to cry with happiness
i like how tohru takes a page out of kyo’s book and sleeps on the porch, so cute
the hat again! we love the hat. also jfc kyo saying i’m sorry in her ear ugh. i like know the story but haven’t read it in the manga yet and it obviously hasn’t been adapted yet and i feel like im just gonna die when that all comes about.
well that’s that episode! fruits basket has definitely been my comfort show during this second half of quarantine and i definitely needed a little comfort tonight so thanks fruits basket :)

Stunningly gorgeous
Strong morals
Small business owner

Mother
Tumblr media

Pros:
By sheer numbers Mother is a very successful mom, with thousands and thousands of offspring.
Single mom (reproduces asexually)
Cons:
She commands her offspring like a horrible spider hive queen using spider mind control.

Is a horrible spider monster the size of an apartment complex
Eats her children
Rating: Worst mom, oh my god get it away from me
Ariel
Tumblr media

Is a ruthless horrible demon lord (bad example for the kids)
Rating: Best spider mom ever. Maybe switch careers.

A/N: For the Bnha LBGTQ+ zine! Thank you for being an inclusive zine. 😊 I wanted to do some queer exploration for Nejire, grappling with confusion as she grows before accepting who she is.
“Kiss,” Nejire read aloud, her chubby fingers tracing the word in the picture book. Seated in her mother’s lap, she leaned closer to the book, eyes wide as she observed the image of a prince leaning down to kiss the princess.
“You read it right,” her mother praised, beaming brightly. “The prince kisses the princess, breaking the curse.”
Nejire glanced up at her mom, then at the book she was patiently holding open. “Kiss,” she repeated. “Mommy, what’s it taste like?”
“Taste?” Her mother laughed, surprised. She hummed lightly. “Now that’s a question…what does it taste like? What’s your most favourite thing in the whole world?”
Nejire snorted. That was easy. “Candy,” she replied immediately.
“I should have guessed.” Letting go of the book with a hand, her mother tousled Nejire’s hair affectionately. “Then that’s what a kiss tastes like.”
-x-
Her first kiss tasted like cotton candy. In the shadows behind her school, Nejire clumsy kissed her classmate and tasted the chapstick on her lips. In retrospect, it was a clumsy kiss, filled with fumbling hands, bumping noses, and clacking teeth. At the moment, though, Nejire noticed none of that. Her heart beat fast as she gripped Tohru’s shoulders. Her face, her hands, her everything was warm, almost hot, and she tried to remember how to breathe as their lips pressed one another.
Tohru had the prettiest long, brown hair, and Nejire had spent hours fantasizing running her hands through it. Doing it now, her fingers felt awkward and sticky, like she would tear out her hair before her hand managed to comb through it all. The tips of her other hand brushed against Tohru’s neck, against the soft skin there. She was too nervous to raise them higher, to rest her palm on Tohru’s cheek.
Breathless, they finally broke apart. Nejire panted as she tried to steady herself. A bright-red Tohru slumped onto her knees, chest heaving as she looked everywhere but at Nejire.
It was cute. Terribly cute. Nejire slowly crouched down till they were at same height again and smiled. “Want to do it again?”
 Tohru squeaked.
 -x-
Her second kiss was the sharp sting of a slap. Nejire reeled backwards, automatically clutching her cheek as she backed away from her classmate, Arisa. Unfortunately, in their eight-grade classroom, there was nowhere to go. Desks penned her in from her sides and behind her, Minako stood, her smile dark and malicious.
It was afterschool. Her teacher and other classmates were all long gone, the classroom empty save for her and five girls. One in front, one behind; Nejire looked at her right, glancing at the remaining three as she hoped for help. None of them said anything. Arms crossed, identical glares on their faces, they might as well have been mannequins for the support they offered.
Arisa shook her hand, wincing. “Damn, that hurt.”
Nejire gritted her teeth. Fine, she could handle this herself. She growled, “What was that for?”
“It was to wake you up,” Arisa replied, rolling her eyes. Not even paying attention to her anymore, she massaged her hand. “I should have just tossed water on you and been done with it.”
“To wake me up?” Nejire frowned, perplexed. “The hell, I am awake.”
“Clearly you’re not,” Minako snorted inelegantly. She stomped her foot on the ground. “You shouldn’t have done that.”
“Done what?” More and more, she wondered if something was wrong with her hearing, if she had swapped bodies or timelines and didn’t know it.
“You’re going to make me say it, aren’t you?” Arisa grimaced, her nose scrunching and brow furrowing. “You kissed Tohru.”
Nejire looked at Arisa, and then at Minako. “Yeah?” She rubbed her ears, maybe she really did need to get her hearing checked. “What’s wrong with that?”
“Whats…” Flabbergasted, Arisa stared at her for a long moment before massaging her forehead. “Are you serious?”
“It’s unnatural!” Minako interrupted, obviously ready for this to be over. “You kissed a girl. You’re not supposed to do that.”
“Why?” Nejire stepped toward Arisa and tried not to feel hurt when she stepped away. “Why not?”
“I can’t believe we have to start there—no wonder your grades suck. Just like your Quirk.” Arisa laughed and as if on cue, the other girls chimed in. In the small room, their laughter surrounded Nejire, swirling around her as though it were alive. “Tohru’s a girl, you’re a girl. You’re supposed to kiss boys.”
 “But—”
“No buts. You’re not that stupid, are you?” Arisa flipped her hair over her shoulder and strolled away. “Don’t worry, we talked to Tohru about this.”
When Tohru stopped talking to her the next day, it felt worse than the slap.
 -x-
Her third kiss tasted like peppermint, strong and sharp. Hidden in the trees by the playground, Nejire grabbed Hiro and kissed him. Just like with Tohru, she had to take the first step. Unlike with Tohru, there wasn’t any chapstick to taste, just the overbearing taste of peppermint, of a breath spray used a few too many times.
It was strange. Really strange. Nejire opened her eyes, studying the boy in front of her. His hands rested nervously on her hips, his eyes squeezed shut. Part of her liked this overly worried boy, this boy who gave her the shyest of smiles. His voice had shook when he’d confessed to her.
Would she have liked him if Tohru hadn’t stopped talking to her? It was a question without an answer. His lips were rougher than Tohru’s but the kiss was just as clumsy, just as awkward. Their faces fit together, somehow, but Nejire hadn’t figured out the placement just yet. Her skin burned, just like it had with Tohru’s, and her hands buried into his soft, dark tufts of hair. This time, her fingers didn’t get stuck in the short, curly locks.
She felt the same rise of excitement, the same heat running through her spine and curling her toes. The thrill was the same, whether it was Tohru or Hiro she kissed. The thrill was the same, the joy was the same, and why did one get her attacked and the other ignored?
 It didn’t make any sense.
 -x-
Her fourth to twelfth kisses were done secretly. Ever since that afternoon in the classroom, Nejire didn’t like getting caught with her crushes. In empty stairwells and locked classrooms, she tasted cherries and spearmint and the remnants of lunch on her peers’ lips. With each kiss, the taste grew more and more diluted, until all she could perceive was water.
Each kiss grew easier, more graceful. She learned how to place her nose, how to press her lips. Her hands threaded through hair like it was silk and her tongue shyly peeked out of her lips as she mastered the art of French kissing.
And when she grew weary of it all, she’d disappear into the library and quietly look up books on romance. Men saving damsels, women smiling at one another in coffee shops, two guys taking a ride to nowhere; she devoured each tale as though it were fact.
Lesbian. Gay. Bisexual. Nejire repeated each label, but none of them sounded right. None of them fit quite right. She poured through books on gender identities and sexual identities—if girls tasted of lip gloss and boys of breath spray, what did non-binaries taste of? Did she hate her clothes or her gender?
Whatever the answer, Arisa had been wrong. Utterly wrong. There was nothing strange about kissing a girl.
 -x-
Her thirteenth kiss was a surprise. The moment she entered the Hero Academy, Nejire stopped thinking about kisses, about labels, about romance. There were too many new things to do, people to meet, and despite what her mother said, her kisses no longer tasted like candy. Besides, she had made two good friends in high school, two people whose quirks were just as bad as hers. Two people who were just as motivated to improve. They met up everyday after class, training in the yard until they had to crawl home from exhausted.
So, she hadn’t expected anything when she’d jogged behind Mirio, building up her stamina. Hadn’t thought of what would happen when she’d tripped over a rock, yelping as she fell.
“Nejire!” Mirio whirled around, his reflexes sharp as he reached out to grab her.
Her own arms were windmilling, trying to keep her upright. It wasn’t enough and she crashed into him, slamming them both onto the hard ground. Their lips connected, their teeth hitting each other like they had in her first few kisses, and she briefly tasted oranges and sunshine.
They lay there, groaning. Her forehead ached from hitting his and slowly she sat up, rubbing it. “Ouch.”
“Y-yeah.” Mirio’s voice was an octave higher. Maybe it was because she was sitting on him, cutting off his air. “You o-okay.”
“Yeah. You?” She glanced down at him, blinking in surprise when she noticed his cherry red skin. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong? Can’t breathe?”
“N-no.” He laughed nervously, his eyes averted as he looked everywhere but at her. Somewhere, in the back of her mind, she was reminded of someone else having that same reaction, of someone else looking like a cute mess, but the memory was too distant and it slipped out of her fingers. “S-sorry.”
“Why? I hit you.” She cocked her head, bemused.
“B-because.” He blushed, turning into a tomato now. “We…we…k-k-kissed.”
Nejire stared at him, her eyes wide. So that was what she’d tasted before. She hit her fist on her hand, comprehending everything. “OH!”
“Y-yeah,” Mirio nodded, still looking embarrassed.
“Oh.” Nejire licked her lips, remembering the tart taste. Unlike her last kiss, this one hadn’t been like water at all. Still sitting on his torso, she pressed her hands on his chest. Beneath her, Mirio’s eyes were wide, his skin red, his flyaway hair a mess. It was cute. Beaming, she asked, “Want to do it again?”
In response, he turned an even darker shade of red and disappeared into the ground with a surprised squeak.
 -x-
Her fifteenth kiss was on purpose. By the time she’d reached second year, she considered Mirio and Tamaki not just her favourite people, but her best friends. There was something about them that never failed to bring a smile on her face. Even when they were studying, which was her least favourite thing in the world. Sitting in the library, she resisted the urge to slump on the table as she stared at her math homework. They were at a school for heroics. She did not want to learn algebra. Chewing on her lip, she glared at the paper, willing the answers to come.
Tamaki glanced at her nervously, his hands fiddling with his pencil. Despite how long they’d known each other, he never looked entirely comfortable when they were alone. “Are you stuck?”
“Yeah.” Nejire sighed, annoyed. “Hey, hey, do we really have to learn this?”
“Yeah. It’s a requirement.” He sunk into his chair slightly, looking depressed. “It’s the only thing I’m good at. Why am I here?”
Nejire immediately wrapped an arm around him, knowing exactly what to say. “Because you’re amazing and a hard worker.” She beamed brightly at him. “Hey, hey, if you can beat these numbers, you can beat any villain.”
Tamaki flushed at her praise and squirmed in his seat. He hunched over, trying to hide his face. “It’s not that amazing.”
“It is,” she insisted. “Extremely amazing. Super amazing.”
“You…” Flustered, he looked up at her, his expression shy. “I’m not...”
Cute, she thought. So very cute. And then, without thinking beyond that, she leaned forward and kissed him. He tasted of octopus and cinnamon, of the meals he’d consumed in his earnest attempt to improve his quirk.
Tamaki fell off his chair before she pulled away, and that was cute too.
 -x-
Her fourteenth kiss was in gratitude. Nejire had three good friends in high school, and her third one was Yuyu. Now that they lived in dorms, they alternated every night over who’s room they visited, carrying with them an assortment of creams and nail polishes. Tonight they were in Yuyu’s room, surrounded by bright pastel colours and posters of fashion models.
Yuyu held up a bottle in the light. Inside, blue and yellow swirled around one another, touching but never mixing. “This is an interesting shade. I wonder how they do that.”
“Magic,” Nejire suggested, grinning as she carefully applied topcoat to her nails. The clear liquid gave her nails a glossy look. “Hey, hey, can I ask you something?”
“Hmm?” Looking away from the bottle, Yuyu nodded. “Sure, what’s up?”
“I…” Nejire chewed her lip. Now that she thought about it, she didn’t know where to start. She thought of cotton candy, of peppermint, of water. Of the sharp sting of a slap. “I…” Yuyu looked at her expectantly, no judgement on her face. “I don’t get it.”
“Get what?” Yuyu raised a brow.
“Kisses. Love.” Nejire waved her hands in front of her helplessly, not sure of what words to use. “I just don’t get it.”
“Ooh, romance.” Yuyu sat down on her bed and patted beside her. “Tell me everything.”
Nejire plopped down next to her, feeling immediately at ease. “I…I’ve kissed girls.” She paused, glancing at Yuyu, but she didn’t say anything, just impatiently gesturing for her to go on. Feeling emboldened, she continued. “And I’ve kissed boys.” She stared down her hands, at the topcoat drying. Her tongue felt heavy.
“Hmmm.” Yuyu opened the nail polish bottle and gently took one of Nejire’s hands. Slowly, she started to apply a coat. Nejire felt a tingle run up her spine at the attention. “And what’s the problem?”
“That’s just it, I don’t get what the problem is.” Now that she’d started, the words just poured out in a rush. “What’s wrong with kissing girls? It’s not the same as kissing boys, but it’s just as good.”
Yuyu’s tone was as kind as her touch. “There’s nothing wrong with it.”
“Really?” Nejire blinked. Whatever words she’d expected, those weren’t it.
“Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with it.” Yuyu looked up mischievously, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. “If anything, I think there’s something wrong with kissing boys.”
That was something she hadn’t heard before. Nejire knit her brow. “But it feels just as good.”
“To you, yeah, but not to me.” Yuyu shrugged. “I think girls are just better.” Pulling back now, she let go of Nejire’s hand. “What do you think? How does it look?”
She looked down at her nails to find they were coated in swirls of blue and yellow, each nail looking different from each other. Nejire held them up to the light, eyes bright as she admired the patterns. “Wow! Hey, hey, you’re great at this.”
“Of course I am.” Yuyu puffed her chest with pride. “I know fashion.”
“Thanks!” Nejire wrapped her arms around her friend tightly, making sure to keep her hands clear. After all that hard work, she couldn’t smudge the finish. Kissing Yuyu on the cheek, she murmured. “Really, thanks.”
“It’s what friends are for.” Yuyu leaned her head against Nejire’s. “And don’t ruin those nails.”
 “I won’t,” Nejire swore.
“Great. Now please tell me that wasn’t the only love problem you have.” Yuyu pulled away, frowning. “Come on, my love life is dead, tell me yours isn’t.”
“Well…” Nejire hummed contemplatively before grinning broadly. “I like Mirio and Tamaki.”
“Huh?” Yuyu’s jaw dropped and speechless, she gestured with her hands in lieu of words. None of those signals could be found in any sign language dictionary, which was a loss to the world. Recovering, she managed, “Both of them? Seriously?”
“I like their taste,” Nejire replied, fanning her hand lightly to help it dry faster.
“That’s…not really an answer.” Yuyu sighed, shaking her head. “Well, at least you’re getting enough love for the two of us.”
 -x-
Her next kiss was unknown. It could be far into the future. It could be today. Nejire stood in Mirio’s room, twisting a strand of hair around her finger as she looked down at Mirio and Tamaki. They sat awkwardly on his bed, fidgeting slightly as they tried to figure out why they were here.
“Is something wrong?” Mirio asked, concern in his voice.
Nejire shook her head. “The opposite.” Her heart was beating a million miles a second and her palms were sweaty, but she knew where she stood now. She knew what she wanted and so the words tumbled out of her easily. “Hey, hey, I like you. Both of you.”
She smiled brightly. No matter what they’re reaction was, she was ready for it. Her nails were still painted that blue-yellow and Yuyu had hot chocolate ready, so even if she was rejected, she could handle it. Nejire was resilient and she was strong, and even if this didn’t pan out, there were other candy-like kisses out there. She just had to find them.
Still, as she watched Tamaki’s and Mirio’s skin flush a bright red, she hoped the answer was yes. Nejire had always had a greedy streak, after all.

Fruits Basket 2019 Thoughts
I recently felt like rewatching and finish the 2001 anime then move onto the 2019 anime and let me tell you it was a good idea cause I’m loving the similarities and the differences. Also, I’ve only read a handful of the manga cause my friend had them and lent them to me as kids.
In no particular order or importance, but how they come to my mind and with vagueness when necessary to avoid spoiling for others. I currently finished watching S1 E17 “This is for Uo-chan” at the time of writing.
I am SOOOOOOOO glad we got a full two episodes dedicated to Uo’s backstory. I have loved her since the first few episodes of the first anime
Having checked her wiki I know something of the future, but WHY THE HECK IS UO NOT QUEER??? Her voice, her outfits, her dialogue!!!! It’s sooooooo queer! Sidenote: why isn’t at least Hana queer if Uo can’t be???
Once again am LOVING Uo and Kyo’s friendship. It’s so fun watching them argue and tease each other (or well Uo teasing him), and I’m loving the more varied redhead nicknames from Uo. I DO miss hearing Uo be called Yankee though...
It was a little weird reconciling Tohru’s change in voice (I mean it’s been 18 years) but I do prefer Laura Bailey’s new voice for Tohru as the 2001 would start to grate on my nerves during my marathoning.
I’m glad Yuki’s hair is ACTUALLY odd-colored now and not purple-black as in the 2001 anime. he actually looks related to white haired Ayame now
I know as a Westerner it’s not my place but regarding pronunciation
Aya-may makes sense but I’m used to Aye-ahmay
GLAD Kagura is the same as Inuyasha’s Kagura finally.
Hone-da is weird... xD
I preferred A-KEY-to not AH-ki-toe (make sense?)
I’m used to Shi-GUR-ay Shig-ure (maybe need to listen)
I DO love that they’ve included some of the classic and proper Japanese honorifics. Sensei/Sempai, Uo-chan, Sohma (Tohru speaking of Yuki), etc etc. I LOVE that!
LOVE Momiji and Momiji’s mom having German accents
But I do have to mention that it instantly makes him sound more mature and male so how does anyone mistake him for a girl? XD
Also, EXCELLENT voice actors to manage as great a German accent as they did!
Took me a while to get used to Hanajima Saki’s new voice actor but it’s grown on me and I like it now
The instant I heard I HATED it in comparison to the 2001 anime
Loving the little moments that are the same between anime series. I find myself saying the line before the character does or at the same time.
LOVING THAT COLLEEN CLINKENBEARD IS PART OF THIS SERIES NOW AND DAAAAAAMN DO I LOVE HER ROYAL VOICE AS AKITO. It’s so perfect!
I need her to play a badass lesbian in an anime though.. (also if it exists and I simply haven’t come across it, TELL ME PLEASE!)
Also, as always, Funimation is the BEST dub studio ever! And I say this confidently having watched the Netflix Bleach movie in comparison to the Fullmetal Alchemist AND the Ninja Scrolls (aka: Basalisk) live action movies and how well Funimation matched lip flaps in their translation/script. They’re also amazing cause they choose the best actors for the characters!
Edit: Apparently the FMA movie only had 3 Funimation voice actors from the OG anime series dubs and was done by a different company, but they DID match the lip flaps better. And now that I think of it, I have a feeling I watched more of the sub than the dub cause I was probably pissed Riza, Hughes and Roy were different voices...

I understand the Tohru-Has-Two-Hands posts bc I love me a polyamorous solution to the Common Love Triangle as much as the next lesbian, but it’s weirdly distressing to me in this particular circumstance—a weird mixture of my 14 yr old self stanning my first OTP, my deep respect for Machi, and my brain quietly hissing “that’s Yuki’s mom!! He can’t be in love with his mom!!!!” Yes, Tohru has two hands!! But the hand holding yuki’s hand is her platonic hand!! Her mom hand!!

Note
11, 21, 29 for everyone !!
Tumblr media
11. do they have any vices?
( tw. mentions of alcohol and drugs! )
most of them don’t ??? like some of them had here and there but were not too much of the big deal
for example dawon had a smoking phase when she was a teenager but it’s already over it and won’t touch a cigarrete under any circumstances now phew
ella can be too much of a videogame and caffeine addict but it ain’t that bad she knows how to regulate homie
hyojung hasn’t tried anything of that sort and most likely would never and thank god—
now members like arrow…. oof
listen arrow used to have several of ‘em but we’re. not surprised. she would fool around and have a lot of casual flings when younger, she has tried vaping and weed socially, she also enjoyed drinking but like. Greatly and the list just goes on. however she’s grown out of most of these habits (esp coz tohru forced her out of some of em) and it’s getting better !!!
tohru hasnt, and will never have any vices shes too smart for that shit mark my words
jules only swears this much but like. we cant do anything abt it fellas
and yeji does not have any vices beyond her magnum ego but wbk
Tumblr media
21. what is something that causes them great anxiety?
for dawon is the possibility of not being a great leader. sometimes its like shes not giving her best for her girlies :(((
for ella is definitively performing. she’s always too afraid of messing it up and therefore taking the entire performance down
for hyojung is crowds or large publics. she still has trouble handling them
for arrow is and will always be studying. it’s like her nemesis
for tohru is the thought of not being able to work and help to her home’s incomes. she just wants to give her mom the life she deserves and it worries her the possibility of not being able to do it
for jules it’s her sexual orientation. she’s most likely a closeted lesbian and it haunts her to this day
for yeji is how to assert herself as the prettiest all the time and she’s so annoying someone end her
Tumblr media
29. does what they cannot see scare them?
the only member who believes gets legit scared at the spectrum of paranormal activity is dawon. the rest are either way too realistic ( read:  ella, tohru and jules) or way too dumb ( read: hyojung, arrow, yeji ) to believe in that

So in honor of the Fruits Basket reboot who would you say are your fave Furuba characters and ships (canon) and why? Least fave Furuba characters and canon ships and why?
DO YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY I AM TO HAVE A FURUBA ASK IN MY INBOX IN THE YEAR 2019?? SEND ME MORE
(probably some spoilers under the cut for those who havent read the manga)
I love every single character theres no such things as favourites in this house except maybe tohru because she is the sun. I don’t have any least faves..
Except for this guy fuck this guy. this guy killed his wife through guilt and emotional abuse, blamed his son, wanted his son locked away for existing, was just a piece of shit abuser all around and caused nothing but pain and resentment fuck this guy and every other shitty zodic parent who hated their kids. Also momiji’s mom hurts me in every way possible she wasnt evil like this bitch but momiji deserves better fUC K
Tumblr media
(I dont hate akito and probably never will bc god she was terrible but also her growth and THAT CLIFF SCENE?? my heart cried for her)
As for ships kyoru has owned my ass since I was 9, and ten years and a reboot later nothing has changed. The growth that they go through together?? fuckin legends ugh they love each other, I can go on for days about them
Tumblr media
Least favourite ships? Difficult to explain. Considering a majority of the ships consist of incest or large age gaps i’m constantly torn between “that was sweet/romantic as hell” before immediately being like “oh yeah right they’re cousins..” (haru/rin im lookin at u). and hana thirsting after kyo’s dad and demanding kyo call her mother?? a power move but also we all know uo and hana are tohrus lesbian moms so.
(Unpopular opinion but yuki/machi was really sweet and I genuinely enjoy them as a couple but also yuki/kakeru is valid, and overall the student councils relationship with yuki as a whole is beautiful because they all treat him like the bitch that he is and he therefore is allowed to be his true bitch self amen)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they’re both so valid
