Hold up! You, purple hair! Weren’t you the wild witch the guards tried to arrest in Eda’s Requiem? What are you doing here, shouldn’t you be in hiding somewhere and not in the town, at a big event, literally working as security while the warden of the Conformitorium is standing less than two meters away???
Tumblr media
Another disguise pro-tip Amity? Don’t use your parent’s nickname as your alias if you don’t want to be recognized.
Anyways, I was right about the Brawls being some kind of witches duel. The reigning champion is Warden Wrath, and he shouldn’t be too hard for Amity to beat. Luz did it like twice. And one of those was literally before she had any magic.
I for one am ready to see this tournament arc! Those are always the best part of every anime.
Tumblr media
Hey, what was that thing I said about this thing being a bad way for Luz to distract herself? Because I was right.
Tumblr media
I dunno Luz, i feel like it might be worth talking about. Didn’t we go over this in Follies at the Coven Day Parade? Amity will listen to your problems, you just gotta let her in.
I mean, look, look. I get it. I get that you don’t want to worry Amity and distract her from winning that belt, this means a lot to her. You’re a very considerate person Luz, always putting others before yourself. But I’m worried about you, and Amity obviously is too. And if she’s worried about you then she’s going to end up distracted anyway.
Oh, and entering the tournament, your fragile human body and all that. What are you planning to do if you and Amity end up having to fight? Give up? That’s cheating and I don’t think Amity wants to win that way.
Tumblr media
Eda, he’s rich (well, his parents are rich…) a boost in confidence is all the pay he needs.
I guess we’re getting an Edric character arc. Can’t say that’s something I’ve ever wanted, but let’s see where this goes. As far as the Blight Siblings are concerned, he is usually depicted as the least competent (although both Ed & Em are supposed to be talented), or perhaps more prone to failure. More often the butt of the joke than the other two. But unlike Eda, he has magic, and unlike King, his magic isn’t just yelling, so hey, he’s useful. And he knows a little beast keeping magic too.
And I think I’m gonna have to call it a day now. See you tomorrow as we continue with this episode. See you then!

DETAILS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED - TOH
Ok, so, I found this really cool video entitled "Things I noticed while rewatching The Owl Hose" and I decided to share some of my favorite details:
S1E18: You know when Lillith and the emperor's guards tried to invade the Owl House but got DESTROYED by Hooty? There´s a scene where Lillith gets a call from Kikimora saying the emperor wants to talk with her, and a little "bird", on top of Lilly's hair goes "oh, you´re in trouble". Well, on the scene we see her entering the palace, she spits some feathers... indicating that she might have EATEN the poor bird thing!!
S2E14: Hunter's Pentstagram name is RULERZREACHF4AN, clearly indicating the Hunter has not only read King´s book RULER´S REACH, but is also a fan!!
S1E12: The ruined town on the knee, where Eda takes Luz to learn her second glyph, is actually one of the towns that Bellos burned down.
There are a lot more where that came from, you just gotta check it out clicking on this link:
https://youtu.be/kcKMS4Ubpfk?si=39IDlPxNlKxpFO6A
So, did you know any of that stuff? What are some other details that you noticed that other people might have missed??

Holy ACTUAL SHIT, that new episode might be my favorite in the series. Never thought Eclipse Lake would be beaten, but that was fucking *emotional*.
Amity legitimately confronting her dad about not being there for her or talking to her, the Blight family as a whole being really interesting, Eda calling Luz her kid, the showcase of the relationship between Luz and Amity, the scene at the grom tree, I just. Ugh. Holy fuck.
That's not even MENTIONING all the wonderful character details we're getting! Hunter being so incredibly bad at using a scroll, Edric and Emira using illusions as makeup, the implications that Eda and Alador might have actually been acquaintances instead of just knowing eachother, HUNTER BEING A FAN OF RULER'S REACH??? It's fucking GREAT.
What a goddamn beautifully made episode.

TOH 2X14 SPOILERS
I usually watch toh with my friend but I heard the 2x14 episode has a big dump of parents/family trauma issues. And while my friend is one strong dude, he's also quite fragile in the family trauma department. So I decided to watch it before watching it with him to be somewhat prepared? To know what we're about to be dealing with. But ohohohoh did I play myself. It was actually MY parent trauma issues, not his! Ohoohohohoh. Although I think some of the Amity-Alador stuff will resonate with him. But the Luz part? Ah shit. It was really well done tho. The episode was painful but I'm so happy it was created. That said, I could use some friend talk rn BUT that I would have to explain why and THAT would be owl house spoilers. Oh the irony 🤡

Glyph Combo Idea
I had an idea for a new glyph combo that I’ve been working on over the last two days. It would’ve gone considerably faster if I hadn’t been working at the same time, but I still think it came out pretty good.
(note for newcomers: I’m doing a mostly blind watchthrough of The Owl House. The last episode I’ve seen is Reaching Out. No spoilers please!)
Tumblr media
(not pictured: the five different pieces of scrap cardboard where I doodled all the prototypes)
It’s gone through five or six design iterations to arrive at one I’m happy with. Can you guess what it is? Pause the video here and comment your answer.
Are you ready?
It’s a lightning spell!
Or perhaps thunder spell is more accurate. Either way, the main goal is to shoot lightning, so I looked to nature to find out how natural lightning is generated.
That’s where I ran into the first problem. That being that thunder and lightning are actually really complicated and not even all mechanisms are understood. But as far as I can tell, if you have a colder cloud moving upwards into a warmer cloud and maybe throw in a few cosmic rays you have a lightning bolt.
With this in mind I set out to construct the glyph combo. As you can see, it consists of three parts. There is one central glyph as well as two smaller spell circles consisting of three glyphs each. The two smaller spell circles orbiting the central glyph creates two clouds.
The upper one consists of two flame glyphs and one ice glyph. These together create a warm cloud. The lower one consists of two ice glyphs and one flame glyph. These together create a cold cloud.
The central glyph is a light glyph. Some of the earlier iterations used a flame glyph as the central piece, but I decided to use a light one for the final version. Partly because visible light is just electromagnetic radiation our dumb human eyes can detect, so the light glyph is the closest to a cosmic ray glyph we’re gonna get (unless the remainder of season two/ & three that I haven’t seen yet gets really wild). But the main reason I went with the light glyph is because it’s called light-ning.
The way I envision this glyph combo would be used in the show would be if you have it drawn on a piece of paper like this and hold it in your hand, you activate it and it forms a little cloud that starts sparking. Then you could shoot a little lightning bolt from it. Alternatively, leave the cloud hanging in the air to shock people that get too close.
What do you think? Would this work in the world of The Owl House?

MY THOUGHTS ON TOH S2E14 & AMPHIBIA S3E13:
As per usual, this is a combined post, so feel free to skip to the part that you’ve seen. I’ll only be including major things as to not write an essay, like normal.
Amphibia:
The main takeaway from this episode was LORE!! I love the lore of this show with a deep passion if you couldn’t tell already. We now have official mention of the prophecy and the core to Sasha and Anne, and man, I can’t wait to see how they react once all of the pieces of what has happened to Marcy finally fall into place. One aspect that really stuck with me is that the core is an “unnatural thing that does not sleep and will not die,” which really worries me because how are they supposed to kill something that doesn’t die without a third of the people mentioned in the prophecy? Hopefully next week we’ll get even more answers!
The Owl House:
This episode was a bit of a rollercoaster. I loved the triumph of Amity confronting her dad (and by proxy her mom), and finally admitting that she has her own dreams and wants to go her own way in life. Then, there was the sad aspect of finding out that Luz’s dad had passed away. I’m not gonna lie, I did tear up at this, and the fact that Luz kept it in all day really got to me because I do the same exact thing. The short scene where it shows Camilla with her own flowers was really another punch to the gut, especially since Luz and Amity sent off their flowers with hopes that they reach the human relm. Hopefully next week won’t make me tear up again (/lh)!

If I’m not mistaken, that is the cherry tree from Enchanting Grom Fright, the one Amity and Luz created during their dance to defeat Grom. This would be the first time we’ve revisited this location, no?
Come on Lampman, there’s gotta be some symbolism here, uh…
Something about how in that scene, the two of them were in perfect sync and working together, but now they’re out of sync? I notice there are a lot of leaves falling and several empty branches. Fall is here, kinda like how their relationship is falling apart.
Obviously, I don’t think Luz and Amity are going to actually break up, for several reasons. This is just a hiccup, a bump in the road, an obstacle they’re going to eventually overcome. Part of that is going to involve Luz opening up about some of her troubles, which is the hard part. Once they get past that, I think they’ll be able to work things out from there. It won’t be perfect, but hey. Does it really need to be?
(I feel a bit bad about lumping so much on Luz and her issues; Amity has plenty of baggage she brings to this relationship as well)
(this is a bit of a random idea, but revisiting the tree has got me thinking if we might get a replay of that scene, but instead of facing Grom, they face Alador? once the girls have talked things through, he shows up to take Amity with him, she and Luz do their little dance thing and defeat him, not only showing that Amity & Luz are back in sync with each other, but also earning Amity that belt she wanted)
Tumblr media
Oh…
Amity wanted this day to be a day where she could bond with her father. And today is the anniversary of Luz’ father dying. No wonder this has been eating away at her.
(oh, and I called it, I guess. I said Luz’ father was dead. and he is. normally I’m happy when I get stuff right, but for some reason, this does not give me any satisfaction)
Tumblr media
She tried to stand up, but her legs are shaking and she falls down again.
Excuse me, I gotta go lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling while listening to some sad songs.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Amity being an awesome girlfriend.
I get the feeling she isn’t entirely sure how to console Luz about the loss of her father, but she’s trying. They’ll gather some flowers and hold a small memorial for Luz’ dad in the Demon Realm. It’s not the same thing… but it’s better than nothing.
Once Amity is done dealing with whatever terror Edric’s modified blabber serum is currently causing in town, that is.
Tumblr media
I’m trying to come up with a funny thing to say here, to lighten the mood a little after the last scene, but I dunno. It’s getting late, so I’m going to have to end things off for today. See you all tomorrow with the conclusion of episode fourteen.

New glyph combo acquired! I watched a few more seconds and saw that it stops falling objects. I also managed to actually get a few decent enough glimpses of it to make out what the entire thing looks like.
It’s one light glyph, surrounded by one ice glyph and one fire glyph. Hmm… not sure if I see any connection there to negating or lessening gravity. I guess light is, well, light.
On a more important note, Luz did that thing I do every other week where I decided that Today Is The Day I’m fInally Going To Get My Life Together and then just never do. Her To Do list for the day includes constructing a fully-functioning portal door, something that took Philip at least ten years, figure out every possible glyph combination which would probably require a lifetime or more (which is not really an option for Luz, unless… you know) and figure out Belos’ evil plan and defeat him. And even I’m not sure what Belos’ plan actually is, much less how they’d go about defeating him.
Suffice it to say, Luz is taking on maybe a little too much.
Tumblr media
This made me burst out laughing. Is Belos evil? Do you think!??
Also, wasn’t Ruler’s Reach the name of that book King & Luz wrote in that one episode in season one?
Tumblr media
It got better.
The real question is, who was he trying to send that picture of Little Rascal to? Probably one of the Emerald Entrails. My money’s on Willow.
(that profile picture, it’s… it sure is something)
Tumblr media
I wasn’t too far off with what I said about Luz making that reminder months ahead. She and Camila apparently have some tradition that they do every year and this being the first time in years that they’re apart for this occasion… it’s got Luz catching the sad. And so she tries to distract herself with working on a hundred things at once, and as a result, accomplishing very little.
On another note, that is Eda’s old grudgby jacket she wore back in Wing It Like Witches*. It looks good on you Luz. Maybe you should try it on. See if its fits. Who knows, maybe what you need to get out of your funk is a new wardrobe.
I’ve seen art of Luz wearing that jacket, is what I’m trying to say.
(*i went back to rewatch a scene from that episode and I spotted Raine in a photograph in Eda’s photo album)
Tumblr media
So Amity has her own problems that can distract Luz.
So today is the day of the Bonesbrorough Brawl which sounds like some kind of wrestling thing, but I assume magic is involved too. Or maybe it’s not at all like wrestling and just straight up duels or some such. That doesn’t exactly look like a wrestling outfit Alador’s wearing there (I’ll talk more about the photo in a sec).
But today is also the tryouts for the Emperor’s Coven. Odalia has already signed Amity up for it and Alador assigned an Abomaton to, ah… escort her there. Now, I don’t know when witches are considered adults on the Boiling Isles, but Amity is what? Fourteen? Maybe fifteen? Isn’t that a little to young to be joining the army? I know Hunter was probably younger, but he’s a special case… then again, he was serious about the Emerald Entrails joining and they were around Amity’s age, soooo…
Amity, of course, doesn’t want to join the Emperor’s Coven. In fact, she doesn’t want to join ANY coven anymore. She just wants to go to the brawl, compete and hopefully win, like her dad once upon a time.
It is not lost on me that this is something Amity wants to do with her dad, you know, something they can share and have in common… and meanwhile, Luz had something she wanted to do and share with her mom. So much for a distraction.
Let’s talk about the photo  for a sec. Obviously, we have Alador as the central figure. He’s obviously much younger, his eyes are brighter and doesn’t have the bags they do in the present. His hair looks a bit more well-kept although his hands are still stained (thought that could be from the fight). He had the goggles already. He’s also wearing some kind of tank on his back, probably for his abomination goop.
If we look in the lower right corner we can see Odalia. It’s kinda hard to tell, but I think she might be blushing? If we look a bit above Odalia, on one of the large skulls in the background, we can see Eda and Raine watching the spectacle from above. On the lower left we find Darius booing. Already Alador’s rival back then, huh? Also, the person with the fangs next to Darius kinda looks like a vampire, which we know exists on the Boiling Isles.
