Together In Our Sweet Solitude Victorian Simfiction

Their worlds could not have collided. An isolated heiress to the most prominent clan of the county could not have encountered a long-forgotten petty aristocrat once banished from the local society. “I beg your pardon, Mademoiselle, but His Lordship expressed his concern about the… agitated state of yours, and stressed I would prove of help.”

Her Mistress just snuffled and beheld her dispiritedly.

“He and his concern!”, she grunted pungently.

“I shall not disrupt you anymore, and assure your father nothing amiss happened. Pray promise, however, that you will not hurt yourself, would you, Miss Cassandra?”, the governess whispered softly, daring to approach the girl in despair and stroke her back delicately.

When the dusk grew and the guests bade their farewells to the hosts, ushered to their carriage by the butler, she followed her fellow domestics to the exit. Suddenly, a footboy approached her, his wig awry, explaining the Goths wished to have a few words with her. Certain a misunderstanding must have arisen, she advanced after the lad, bewildered, until they reached the Earl and the Countess in the vestibule, already in their outer garments.

The squire promptly excused himself and headed to the vehicle; his spouse, though, asked the menial staff to leave and drew Mary Sue on the side.

“Miss…?” “Oldridge.” “I rather asked for your Christian name, if you please.” “Mary.” “Miss Mary it is; may I ask you a question?”
