GQ put out a Chan solo interview today (9/16/21) where he talks a lot about his trainee period and upbringing. I’m dropping some highlights here because it’s a cool read.
(...) He auditioned for JYP Entertainment at 13, entering their training program only to watch the friends he made debut (...) while he remained stuck and frustrated in the practise rooms for seven years. To this day he’s unsure of what made him stay. “That’s something that I ask myself as well, I’m still very intrigued by the fact they kept me here,” he ponders. “Trainees come and go, they get cut by the company or they leave by themselves but I had no thought of leaving, they had no thought of kicking me out. I think the company found potential in me, and I felt potential from the company as well. It was a two-way thing.”
As a youngster, he remembers frequently moving from suburb to suburb in Sydney. The eldest of three, he describes himself as “a very curious child. You know how there’s a saying of “curiosity killed the cat”? Yeah, well, with my curiosity, I got into a lot of trouble.” His parents enrolled him in taekwondo and soccer, and, aged seven, he found an affinity with swimming, his winning swathes of medals leading his father to set up a swimming club.
Music was a constant throughout childhood, it was, he says, “always there”. His mother recalls him spontaneously breaking into little dances in the street as a toddler, bemusing passers-by, and it was her wide-ranging love of pop—Air Supply, ABBA, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra—that instilled his own. He joined the school choir and took part in his class music shows, recognising his love of music and entertaining was something worth pursuing more seriously.
During difficult periods in his idol training, when he often felt what he calls “lost”, he questioned that decision. “I did think, ‘Maybe being an idol is not the right path for me, maybe I should have just kept swimming, maybe I should have become a soccer player’,” he says. “When I’d get really tired, I always thought, ‘I took a ten hour trip. I said bye to all my friends and family, I said bye to a lot of things to come here, am I going to go back?’ And that motivated me to keep going. I didn’t want to regret it.”
(...) Leading a K-pop group bears no resemblance to fronting a band and relishing the spotlight. Rather it tasks the bearer with being a dependable rudder and anchor for the group. Growing up, Bang Chan would naturally canvas friends’ opinions on what they should do when they hung out, endeavouring to see everyone had a good time. He was also a school prefect—“I wasn’t the best prefect,” he laughs—while home life presented its own challenges with two siblings, aged nine and seven years younger than him. “We kinda had it rough back then, it was tough,” he says. “And because Mum and Dad would be so busy working, I’d take care of the kids. Taking responsibility came without me knowing.”
(...) In some respects, he says, three years as an idol hasn’t changed him all that much. “I’m still the person that tries to think of others first and be aware of my surroundings. What has changed is the physical stuff—performance, stage presence, producing, singing, rapping, my body structure” (...)
The more he writes and produces, the more progress he sees in the quality of his work, then chastises himself for pointing this out; “I don’t know if I have the right to say this myself, because I still have a lot of improving that needs to be done.” He’s someone who struggles to compliment himself, habitually raising others as he downplays himself. “Maybe it’s because I’m expecting myself to be better so I’m pushing myself harder.” Bang Chan slowly inhales, thinking. “Another reason could be, well, I don’t think I actually, really love myself. It’s not like I hate myself but because I’m still trying to search for the real person that I am, I’m still awkward. It’s funny, because I’ve never thought of helping myself out. That’s done by the members right now, they acknowledge the stuff that I do and compliment me because I don’t compliment myself. That’s something I’m really thankful for.”
The independence afforded to Stray Kids has made Bang Chan prolific as a writer and producer but he seeks out, as he has for years, the trust and creative friction within 3RACHA to continually challenge himself. The classical piano lessons which he took from the age of five (and guiltily recalls hating) drilled into him discipline and structure, which is a boon and a burden. “It gave me limits with my own music and sometimes when I’m working, I’m like, ‘Can I go a little further? Maybe? But, ah, I need to match this to what music is supposed to be like’. Changbin and HAN have helped me so much. Sometimes we clash but [we find] a centre point where we all agree, then something new comes out and we break stuff. With them I’ve realised I can have fun with music.”
He also credits his bandmates with helping him “realise who I am as I slowly find the path”. Yet Bang Chan turned a significant emotional and artistic corner this year on NOEASY, instilling songs such as ‘The View’ and ‘DOMINO’ with acceptance, confidence and a renewed hopefulness. Perhaps he’s further along his path than he realises. “I think that’s right,” he muses slowly, thinking aloud. “During Kingdom, (...) especially ‘God’s Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du’ stage, I felt good because Stray Kids [as an identity] felt so good on me. And just imagining myself this free and excited about everything—that made me feel like, ‘That’s who I really am’.”
(...) “Like, 20 years from now, I have no idea what’s going to happen. So, as long as I do what I’m supposed to do, I believe that the universe will package my future for me,” he says, serenely. Maybe he’ll still be taking to the stage with Stray Kids or maybe not, but he remembers having had a dream set in the future and it was one that made him happy. “It was kind of a funny dream... of townhouses, like a little village," he says, "but we had eight houses, and each of us were living there in our own house and just having a really, really great time.”

When toddler Sydney, Kins, Kam, Maia, Aria, and Ava come hand in hand with the boys in OT8/OT7 or other boys in their class, Yoongi, Namjoon, Jimin, Jungkook almost have a heart attack. And go in to scoop them up in their arms 😂
But when toddler Spence and Berk come hand in hand with the boy, Tae and Jhope would find them so cute and coo at them 😂
Literally 🤣

I... Ms. Sydney, may I please request some newsies hcs for a super young Darcy Reid please? If you have time and feel like it, I mean! And have a simply wonderful day.
Shy. Incredibly shy little thing. Clung to his mother’s skirt until he was maybe ten. It annoyed his father but his mother wouldn’t have commentary on it.
He could talk to adults far before he got used to speaking to his peers.
As a childhood friend of Katherine he’s used to being dragged around by her whenever she has an idea and that helped him come out of his shell some. His dad is convinced the two will get married some day and he’s thought so since he was maybe eight. Boy is that man in for a surprise.
When he was little he wanted to be a ship’s captain, exploring all the corners of the world. Between his father pushing him towards publishing and his realization that that involves going to hot and humid climates he feels that dream is inaccessible.
He still feels more confident when he’s with someone he trusts and dressed well. He uses the dapper clothes and smart colors as armor in a way and a close friend alongside him as a shield. When he was nothing more than a toddler his mom would put him in little suit coats and giggle about how good he looks.
Darcy has always been dainty and really is more at home in the upper class side of things but he’s also quite firm that the right thing is the right thing. Just please don’t ask him to get involved in a physical fight. He’ll balk at the sight of blood.

Binondo: The Influence of the Oldest Chinatown on My Identity
Almost 7,000 miles away from San Francisco is another melting pot in a class of its own: Manila. While I was born in San Francisco and currently reside in the Bay Area, the capital city of the Philippines is what I consider my home. I was just a toddler in 1996 when I left San Francisco, when my grandfather decided he would sell his business that distributed agricultural machinery from the USA to the Philippines. My father, who was overseeing business operations in its San Francisco office, decided it was time for my family to return home to Manila upon my grandfather’s decision to retire. While technically a U.S. citizen, it was in Manila where I would create some of my earliest memories of childhood and where my values, principles, and identity would eventually be formed. While I identify as Filipino American, I have more recently begun to explore another, hidden cultural influence on my identity: Chinese.
Chinoy: Being Chinese Filipino
Tumblr media
Vista de la entrada de la Calzada de San Sebastián hasta la Yglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, 1867, watercolor on paper
I’ve been working at CHSA since 2018 and have learned so much about the Chinese American experience. I’ve had the privilege of meeting authors and lecturers who share the most fascinating accounts of the Chinese during the Gold Rush to World War II. I’ve heard about Chinatowns from all over the world, from San Francisco to Yokohama, London to Sydney, and even Mexico City. Often overlooked are the Chinatowns of the Philippines. In my experience, the Philippines has a Chinese immigration story of its own, and it may very well predate most of the historic events I’ve learned at CHSA.
The city of Manila was founded in 1571 by Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. Due to its strategic location in Southeast Asia, Manila became a major trading port where Spanish galleons brought goods from Acapulco, Mexico to The Philippines. Many travelled to partake in trade for gold, spices, and other goods of the Spanish Empire, including the Chinese, who played a significant  role in the history of Philippine economics and commerce. As a child, I learned that Manila is home to the oldest Chinatown in the world. Called 岷倫洛區 (Mínlúnluò), Manila’s Chinatown, which was established in 1594. It was there Chinese settlers in the Philippines began conducting trade and commerce. Most Filipinos today call it Binondo, from the Tagalog word binundok meaning “mountainous area.”
The influence of Chinese culture is ubiquitous to many parts of Manila and is very much intertwined with my own identity as a Filipino. There were aspects of Chinese culture my whole life growing up that I was unaware of. When my family returned to The Philippines, we moved in with my maternal grandparents. Monday was when my grandmother (or lola in Tagalog) would usually have her closest friends over for a game of mah-jong. They’d start in the afternoon and could go on until the evening with an assortment of delicacies and snacks made available throughout the day. Some of my favorite treats from my lola’s mah-jong “parties” were Mangga’t Sago (Chinese style mango and tapioca pudding) and arroz caldo, the Filipino version of what some Chinese Americans might refer to as jook.
Tumblr media
Left photo: Me and my grandmother welcoming the Year of the Dragon (2012)
Right photo: My sister and I burning incense joss sticks. We sometime call it pay-pay (pai-pai) Tagalog.
Beyond mah-jong parties, dishes like siu-mai, har-gao, pork buns and other dimsum fare were often an option for la merienda (a cultural influence left to us by the Spanish of having a late, light afternoon meal with friends and family). I grew up with Chinese holidays such as the Autumn Moon Festival and most notably Chinese New Year, when I would receive red envelopes from my elders and when my sister and I were treated to exciting Dragon Dance performances at our cousins’ house. We’d receive boxes of what we call ti-koy (甜粿), or nian gao to other Chinese speakers, which is glutinous rice cake. We’d cut them into slices, dip them in egg, and fry them until golden. I was told the stickiness of the ti-koy would mean our family too would “stick” together throughout the year, and I believed that! While not Filipino celebrated these holidays, they were mainstreamed enough for everyone to participate and enjoy the festivities.
Tumblr media
Left: Me during my First Communion. The Philippines is the only country in Asia that has a predominantly Roman Catholic demographic.
Right: The altar of The Santo Christos de Longos, a Catholic cathedral in Binondo but where Chinese Filipinos can burn joss sticks (incense) as offering to God.
The Chinese presence was also felt at my school. I was in the company of other Filipino boys whose families had traditional Hokkien surnames such as Uy, Tan, Ong, and Chua, just to name a few. Others had unique hybrid Filipino surnames of Chinese origin that were Hispanicized after many of the oldest generations of Chinese Filipinos (sometimes known as “Chinoy”) converted to Catholicism during the years of its Spanish colonial period. For example, my mother’s maiden name Samson is derived from the Hokkien words “三” (saahm/third) and the Hokkien name “孫” (soon). Many other Hokkien Chinese followed a similar trend with their surnames: Sison (四孫), Gozon (五孫),and Lacson (六孫) while others have multiple syllabic surnames using the name of a patriarchal figure of their family and transcribed it using Spanish orthography. Which is how names like 許寰哥 (Khó͘-hoân-ko) would evolve into Cojuangco.
Many associate the Spanish with leaving a historical mark on the Philippines, but in reality the Chinese population outnumbered the Spaniards by the 17th century. Both Spain and China have greatly influenced the Filipino culture and at times have meshed in the most peculiar ways. For example, in Binondo is the cathedral known as the Santo Christos de Longos, where Chinese Filipinos have preserved their traditions but intertwined them with Catholic practice, for example burning joss-sticks (incense) before an altar to offer prayers and intentions to God. This is similar to the Catholic custom of burning a candle before the altar to offer intentions.
The Ties That Bind
Tumblr media
Chinese Food Vendor; Preparing food for Natives (Jose Maria A. Cariño and Sonia P. Ner. Album: Islas Filipinas 1663-1888)
Since moving to the Bay Area, I’ve learned that a popular aspect of Filipino culture that most Americans are familiar with is our cuisine. I’ve been asked many times to bring classic Filipino dishes to potlucks and get togethers. Two dishes that seem to have captured the devotion of most of my newfound American friends are pancit (Filipino-style stir fried noodles) and lumpia (Filipino spring rolls). Rightfully so! These dishes are indeed delicious, but what most people might not know is how both are just one of the many clever contributions of the earliest Chinese immigrants to the Philippines. In fact, their origin story is one that celebrates the ingenuity of both Chinese and indigenous Filipinos. Similar to restrictions in the United States, the Spanish Colonial Government had their own way of segregating the Chinese from the rest of society. In 1581, they established the Puerta del Parian or simply the Parian, which were the only areas in Manila the Chinese could reside, conduct business, or offer services. This would eventually lead to many indigienous Filipinos-who also were viewed as second class citizens by the Spanish-to create close ties with the Chinese immigrants, some even intermarrying. It was in these Parian communities that dishes such as 便伊食 (piān-ê-si̍t) and 潤餅 (lun-pia) entered Manila and evolved into beloved pancit and lumpia we know and love today. The Parian became major commercial centers, which was seen as a threat to the Spanish Colonial Government. They decided it was best to displace and disperse, sometimes by force, the Chinese communities in Manila throughout the 17th century. Binondo was the last of the Parians that was spared from destruction.
Asian American Solidarity
The interactions between Filipinos and Chinese have deep rooted connections. Since working at CHSA, I’ve  learned their camaraderie has paved the way for solidarity between Asian Americans. Particularly when they rallied together to fight against the eviction of low income Asian American tenants at the International Hotel (I-Hotel) in San Francisco during the 1970s. However, I know that is not always the case; sometimes there are divisions within our community as Asian Americans instead of being unified.
To be working for CHSA is an honor, as it advocates for diversity and inclusivity through not only the Chinese American experience, but the experience of Asian Americans and immigrants to the United States. As I continue to work at CHSA, I hope that my own personal experiences will raise awareness about the different immigration experiences. Instead of seeing differences between cultures, what I have learned that there is more that binds us together than keeps us apart.
Submitted by Angelo Racelis. Angelo currently works at CHSA and handles Visitor Services, online gift shop and currently assists with online programming and communications.

Beauty Queen. Cheerleader. Life of the Party
To an outside observer it seems like Sarah Reed could have the moon on a string with just a bat of her lashes and a well placed smile. Most people, however, don't see the meticulous work that goes into maintaining those airs, very much by Sarah’s own design. The veneer of the homecoming queen loses it’s mystique when you know her tricks after all. Craven Creek is a small town, word gets around fast. Perception, not truth, is everything. Which is why no one can know that perfect Sarah Reed is far from what she allows others to believe. Most of Sarah’s life was spent on the outskirts of town, far away from the suburbs where the grass grows high and wild. No shiny family cars parked in neatly paved driveways, instead the land was spotted with rusted out junkers long abandoned to a life of being an eyesore.
If Eric and Caitlin Reed had once had ambitions beyond their meager small town living they’d long since died out, the only hint of them being the ghost of a glimmer in their eyes long dulled by life. Sarah couldn’t tell you when her parents started to change, maybe perhaps because she was so young or because the shift was so slow. One does not become an addict overnight after all, but the difference was there nonetheless. Over the years her father became too acquainted with the bottle, then pills to ease his bad back. Eventually neither were enough for her mother, turning to the small but insidious drug trade that permeated the poorer neighborhoods. What could have been a meagre, but nice home for the Reed family fell into disrepair as her parents numbed themselves beyond caring.
Being the oldest responsibility for her younger siblings fell to her when her parents were long past fit to care for them. The young girl was well versed in how to clean house, cook, and care for a screaming toddler well before she was twelve. A responsibility way more than a girl so young should carry, but one she had whether she wanted it or not. Still though, there were bright spots for Sarah. While she wasn’t the most academically gifted, school gave Sarah a chance to be away from home and provided her with her biggest passion: cheer. An athletic and energetic young girl Sarah excelled at cheerleading.
Sarah’s ascent to queen bee didn’t begin until last year of middle school. Some miracle of bureaucracy sanctioned the redrawing of county lines to allow for Sarah to switch middle schools and attend Carpenter County High School the following year instead of the high school closest to her home. This meant a fresh start with no one from her previous schooling to poison the well for her. A chance to reinvent herself, and so she did. That summer hours were spent at the mirror learning to do her hair and makeup, months of saved babysitting money spent on new clothes. Girly magazine’s became her teacher on how to walk, talk, and flirt.
The first semester of eighth grade came and so began Sarah’s long con of her new skillfully crafted public persona. Sarah joined the cheer squad, an almost one way ticket to popularity. Boys started to take notice of her, never leaving her wanting for options for dates or excuses to not be at home. But the most important development was meeting Charlie Ayers, the boy who would become her best friend. The two became fast friends, quickly becoming inseparable, to the point where they were given the nicknames Barbie and Ken. Charlie became her rock, the only person she showed her true self to. Not the carefully calculated version of herself she played at being in school, but the real Sarah. Even allowing him into her dilapidated home, something she had never done before or for anyone since.
Through middle and high school Sarah only grew in popularity. She had her finger on the pulse of the social life of Carpenter County High School. There wasn’t a party she wasn’t invited to or a piece of gossip she didn’t know. Though, as her star was rising in the public eye at school, her home life deteriorated more and more. By senior year, Sarah was at her breaking point at home. The only thing getting her through school was the promise of going to college and living away from her parents. She would have gone to the east coast, put as much distance between them as possible had it not been for one thing… Charlie. She could never bring herself to leave her best friend and in the fall after senior year the pair both began attending SCU: Silas Craven University.
Poor Sarah had no clue what was in store for her at college. More of the same she assumed: more parties, more boys, more barely passing her classes. Skating through life until graduation when she would eventually have to figure out what to do with her life. But that was years away, and she lived for the present. How could she have ever guessed the threat that lurked in the sleepy little college town? Maybe if she had she would have been more cautious, not left her dorm so late at night.
She didn’t know how long she was unconscious for, or how she got the throbbing pain in the back of her head. When she came to she was bound to something, cold as the air around her, biting into her skin. There were voices, but she couldn’t tell who. Frantic now she looked arounf wildly, but to no avail. Something was blocking her vision, encompassing her head making it hard to breathe. A bag? She didn’t have long to consider before the pain started. Slicing, tearing her skin. She screamed, cried, begged for whoever was doing this to stop, but there was no mercy that night.
By the time her abductors were done with her all that was left of Sarah Reed were pretty pieces, all but her head buried by the old sawmill where they murdered her, only a stone’s throw away from her university. Though, this would not be the last that was seen of Sarah. For whatever sick reasoning the killers recorded her torture and subsequent death for posterity. Real genuine horror grafted onto tape to be viewed again and again, packaged up in a blank tape and delivered to the local video rental place for a victim of a different kind to find.
With the tape slipped into the return box of Flick Picks Video Rentals Sarah’s unfortunate legacy as one of the first victims of the Death Masks was cemented.

Felix Tate Turner | Twenty Two;  Survivor
House: Delma Security Class: 1 Status: Uninfected Alignment: New Wave Reformists
History
tw: eating disorder
Felix was raised by an adoring father who, despite not being the most emotionally stable parent, would move heaven and earth for his son. The spitting image of his fair-skinned, delicate mother, Felix was born in Brisbane, Australia, six weeks premature in a complicated delivery that left both the boy and his mother in critical condition. Rushed to their respective ICUs, Felix bounced back in optimum time—his mother, however, died roughly four hours after giving birth.
Felix’s father, Henry, was absolutely crushed. Already a somewhat emotionally fragile man, he crumbled in the aftermath of the trauma, and under the pressure and fear of having to take care of his newborn son by himself. It wasn’t that he hadn’t believed he could make a great father, it was that he’d never imagined having to do it without Yvonne. She had been the love of his life, and up until the birth of his baby boy, the single most important thing to him. Still, Henry fought tooth and nail to give his son the strongest childhood he could—which meant long hours at the office in the hopes of earning that promotion, hiring a Nanny to help out wherever possible and sending Felix to the prestigious all-boys private school Yvonne had always wanted for him.
Henry hated being away from his son and did the best he could to make up for his absence when they were together. He’d take Felix on outings, teach him how to bake and sew—Felix had never shown much interest in playing sports and had always had a natural inclination towards the finer, more domestic disciplines of life, and so Henry had gone to any lengths he could to be both the father Felix deserved, and the mother he would never have. Henry even got a friend from work to show him how to use a sewing machine so he could in turn teach his son.
Unfortunately, however, his ardent attempts to bond with his boy never quite fostered the results he’d hoped for. The amount of time Felix spent with the Nanny, and all those occasions his father failed to be there for dance recitals, talent shows, bring-your-parent to school days—those times are the ones that stood out, to Felix, and what he carried with him as he got older.
Those times—and the ones his father spent curled up in a sobbing heap on the kitchen floor. After his wife’s death, Henry spent extensive time in therapy, and struggled with severe PTSD and depression. He loved his son more than anything in the world, but Henry’s attempts to protect Felix from the lasting effects of his grief were only minorly successful, and resulted in a young Felix more often than not knowing his Daddy to be either ‘Sad’ or ‘Away’.
As Felix got older, Henry began to fall even more out of touch with him. He didn’t know how to bond with his son anymore because, as a young teenager, Felix wasn’t really interested in walks in the park or in going for ice cream or baking cookies—at least, not with his Dad. And the more they grew distant, the clingier Henry became. Felix didn’t have the tools to face the depths of his father’s grief, and feeling suffocated by Henry’s desperate attempts at keeping him close, began to cope by creating more distance.
Craving independence from his father, Felix became very involved in his social status at school. Deeply lonely but totally unequipped to make meaningful connections, he began seeking attention in other ways. He became intensely preoccupied with his appearance, which had been fawned over by strangers since he was a toddler, and he jumped on any and every opportunity to take centre stage. But creative by nature and unabashedly competitive, he excelled in the spotlight. Musical theatre, dance, piano—he did it all and he did it with grace, energy and fierce commitment. At fourteen, he was scooped up by a local scout and got into modelling—six months later, he was in love. He’d always had dreams of becoming a pop star or a fashion icon, and modelling offered a glamour and limelight he couldn’t resist.
He finished grade ten at sixteen, but opted out of Australia’s discretional Upper Secondary, at the encouragement from his agent. And soon he was being whisked around the world for photoshoots and runway bookings. At that time, he’d begun using his middle name, Tate, for his modelling career, preferring it over Felix because he thought it sounded sharper, and stronger—and he was unfailingly terrified of being soft, like his father. Breakable, like his father.
But the next couple of years were a whirlwind, and at seventeen he used his connections in the industry to leverage him a shot at pursuing a record label. He was signed by an independent agency in Australia under the stage name ‘Felix Tee’ and though he was only just starting, the media attention he was already getting as a model helped with his exposure a great deal. However, though you’d be hard pressed to get him to admit it, his fame did not bring him the fulfillment he hoped it would. The more he got, the more he felt he needed, and life at the mercy of the industry was hard. Not only did the pressure harden him in ways a boy his age shouldn’t have had to, it also aggravated an eating disorder that he’d first been diagnosed with when he was only thirteen.
Felix Today
When D-Day hit, Felix had just landed back in Sydney, after a week spent working in Japan. It was to his father’s immense relief, that they were reunited in the absolute chaos of the flooding airport, and for the first time in several years, Felix clung to his father’s embrace, not keen to let go.
They spent most of the past five years in Colony 30, just outside of Penrith, Australia, where the mountains had provided some protection from flooding and the elements. His father eventually became an Elite, acting as an advisor in the trading relationships between Colonies. When the NWRF rose to power, Henry got looped in with them sort of by accident, and though he was somewhat lukewarm about their positions on the Infected, Felix found himself easily persuaded by their arguments. But it was in his nature to be intensely uncomfortable with the idea of being inferior in some way. As an Uninfected, he couldn’t help but wonder why he hadn’t been affected by some kind of new world ‘evolution’ and there was little he hated more than feeling left out, or left behind. It seemed absurdly unfair that people were suddenly awarded special ‘abilities’, apparently at random and that it was something they neither worked for, nor earned. And so, feeling slighted, he fell into the Reformists’ pattern of not trusting what he didn’t understand.
Felix and his father eventually used Henry’s influence to be transferred overseas, hoping to locate Felix’s aunt, who they believed to have been living in Bristol before D-Day. They’d had no luck finding her via Echo or Colony registry, but Henry couldn’t give up hope. So a place was set aside for them at Colony 22, and they arrived mid-January, 2163—apparently (and fortunately) only a few days after a recovery from some kind of parasite.
The apocalypse has undeniably brought Felix closer to his father—though there is still a lot of progress to be made before they could be considered ‘close’—but in many ways, he is vastly unchanged. He is still extremely vain and insecure, and his insecurities manifest as they always have, in the overcompensation of his narcissism and a disastrously competitive streak. He has a tendency to be catty and judgemental and remains something of a diva, to put it kindly. Having never learned how to even begin being vulnerable, Felix has immature coping mechanisms, is easily frustrated, and can be quite fickle and fake with his peers.
His eating disorder is still a daily struggle (which was categorized as OSFED, ‘Otherwise Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder’) but he is insistent with his father that he has it under control and that it is no longer an issue. But evidence of his malnutrition is already causing him trouble in training, and he is dreading the start of the Games season, as he has never done anything quite like it before.

The Unrequited
Introducing: “The Unrequited” A fan made killer for DBD
Name: Arlo Hayes
DLC: Victims of Affection
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Difficulty: Intermediate
Height: Tall
Ethnicity: Australian
Realm: Wood Creek High School (may describe this later if people really want it)
Weapon: Whittled Stake
Speed: 115%
Terror Radius: 32 meters
Lore: Arlo Hayes was born in Sydney, Australia, while his life may not have been considered lavish, or pampered, his family had a stable income. His older sister Josephine detested Arlo, she despised not being an only child anymore, constantly taunting him in his crib, and stealing his toys when he was a toddler, there was nothing she wouldn’t do to make him upset. When Arlo entered primary school, he had difficulty making friends, shy and reserved, he never made an attempt to approach any of the other kids. The torment he suffered from his sister made him become isolated in school, while a few students tried to get close, Arlo wasn’t much for conversing with them. Soon after a few years, when Arlo was finally opening up to the other students, his father got a job transfer and his entire family was moving to America. When he moved to America, he felt alone again, and his performance in school reflected his lack of desire to learn. His sister constantly teased him and when his parents tried to pry anything out of him, he refused to speak up, leading to his parents becoming upset and reprimanding him for being irresponsible.
After being held back a year, Arlo finally made his way to middle school, it was there he came in contact with one student in particular. When being assigned to a seating chart in one of his classes, Arlo found himself placed next to Isaac and being polite, Isaac gave him a friendly smile. Immediately, Arlo felt something different next to him, a longing sensation, a sense of sympathy he hasn’t felt in a long time, he knew he needed to be with this new kid... Isaac Jones, as the teacher addressed him. Arlo could already feel himself gushing, and tried to stay still until he could talk to him openly. Arlo quickly grew attached to Isaac, managing to befriend him, hang out with him, and the two got to know each other a little better day by day. It grew difficult trying to hide his emotions near Isaac, but finally, when the two reached high school, Arlo figured it was time to confess his feelings and tell Isaac just how much he mattered to him. Unfortunately, the feelings weren’t mutual, Isaac only saw him as a close friend, the confession was unreciprocated.
Arlo’s psyche was ruined at this rejection, everything that mattered to him contained within Isaac’s being, and now he couldn’t have it, not in a way that truly mattered to him anyway. Hurt, shocked and confused, Arlo didn’t show up to class for several days. He took a hobby of whittling in order to try to take his mind off of everything he’s dealt with. His sister, a senior at that time found out about his rejection, and in a moment of uncharacteristic empathy, she told him that there’s more fish in the sea, there’ll be another person for him, but he knew better, he knew that Isaac is the one and only person for him.
He couldn’t take it anymore, the feeling of rejection was consuming him and Arlo reached for desperate measures. First, he started small, feigning compliance and pretending to accept Isaac’s rejection into being only friends, but when Arlo was getting touching, and displaying lascivious behavior,  Isaac grew uncomfortable and knew Arlo wasn’t truly over it, and for Arlo’s sake, he knew he needed to cut ties with him so he could get over it, for he knew he couldn’t ever return his affection anywhere near the amount he had for him. Enraged, Arlo stormed out, but as he was leaving, something caught his eye, and he took it into his possession without Isaac’s knowing.
When he returned home that day, Arlo unraveled the prize he hid within his backpack, being greeted by a sloppy kiss and a wet nose, he has stolen Isaac’s dog, Roxxy. His emotions got the better of him, why should such a lesser being be given the affection he deserves? Why should something not even human be treated better than him for their entire life? He couldn’t stand it anymore, taking out his whittling knife, he butchered the small dog in his backyard, putting all the pieces back into a bag within his backpack and within the veil of the night, Arlo trekked back to Isaac’s house. Carefully he placed the bloody sack of loose parts and thrusted his knife back into it one last time for good measure, Grabbing a large rock, he hurled it at a window, running away in the process, waiting to see Isaac’s pain, the pain he felt when he was rejected, it’s what he deserves.
The police were called, and Arlo’s fingerprints were on the weapon used for slaughter, it didn’t take long before he was incarcerated, sentenced to 10 years in prison. Arlo bided his time, counting the seconds until he could see isaac again, waiting, each passing day was another closer to his obsession. His parents rarely visited him, embarrassed at the outcome of their child, Josephine would visit monthly, but none of this mattered to him, all that he cared about was seeing Isaac again.
Time flew, Arlo was finally released from his sentence. Josephine took Arlo under her wing until he got back onto his feet, giving him phone books to search for jobs. Weeks of searching through phone books, Arlo finally found Isaac Jones, the one he was looking for all this time. It was not too far from where his sister lived, Arlo stole her car, speeding his way to Isaac’s address, armed with only a stake and fueled by raw emotion, he knew he would be with Isaac forever once and for all. Barging through the door in broad daylight, Arlo reveled in Isaac’s shocked expression when he drove his stake into his arm as he tackled him to the ground. Straddled on his victim, Arlo admired his screams of agony as the blood pooled out from below him. Finally, the two of them would be together forever he thought to himself as he drew the stake into his chest, there would be nobody separating them now.
The world around the two blackened and grew dark, eerie spider-like tendrils emerged from the ground, slowly cradling the two of them in its embrace, for they will soon have a new purpose together forever.
The Unrequited is a tall, well-built man, a bit on the lanky side. He has blond hair and wears a white bandana covering everything from his nose and below, the only thing you can clearly see of his face is his piercing green eyes. Clad in a white hoodie with the hood down, and jeans. His hoodie is torn over his heart, revealing a gash with blood dripping out on occasion. He wields a wooden stake whittled by himself. He will thrust the stake forward when attacking survivors. On a successful attack, he will pull his bandana up and lick the blood off the stake.
The Unrequited’s Power: Licentious Embrace
Using the alternate action key will cause the Unrequited to attempt to grab the nearest survivor in front of him within melee distance.
A skill check zone will appear once you grab a survivor.
Great skill checks immediately catch the survivor
Good skill checks allow the survivor a small skill check in an attempt to escape your grasp, but the survivor will take a stage of damage.
Failed skill checks from you give the survivor a large skill check in an attempt to escape from your grasp unharmed.
You are immobilized while you have a survivor in your embrace
The area of effect is 4 meters with a 25 degree cone in front of him. The Unrequited will have a .75 seconds windup animation then leap forward at 135% speed for 1 second with low movement control. Missing a survivor causes a backlash animation for 1.5 seconds, during which you have free camera control, but move at 25% speed. The skill check for you is as big as the ds skill check (reworked ds) 20% of which is a great skill check zone. Survivor skill check is 10% bigger than the overcharge 3 skill check. Failed skill check is 10% smaller than a standard skill check. While The Unrequited has a survivor in his embrace, he will wrap his arms around the survivor’s midriff as the survivor kicks around and grabs at his arms. During this time, The Unrequited can be interrupted by pallets, but not blinds. Successful embraces against the survivor will cause him to hoist the survivor on his shoulder (takes 1.5 seconds). The Unrequited will shank the survivor with his stake if they escape from his good skill check, you will do your weapon hit animation. If the survivor escapes during your power you will be stunned for 3 seconds (Affected by all stun-related perks).
Mori (Killer PoV) - (First person camera) You kneel above the dying survivor, wrapping your arms around their back, gently pulling them closer to you. Suddenly you throw them against the ground, grabbing them by the head and bashing them against the ground again and again until a loud cracking sound is heard and they fall silent. You stroke the top of their head for a brief moment then you stand back up.
Mori (Survivor PoV) - (Worms Eye View) The Unrequited will kneel above the dying survivor, his eyes staring at them intently as he wraps both arms behind the survivor’s back, gently pulling you closer to him. Suddenly he throws the survivor back on the ground, he grabs the survivor by the head as he bashes them against the earth several times as they scream until a loud cracking sound is heard and they fall silent. The Unrequited’s hand strokes the top of your head then you die.
His personal perks, Stay With Me, Controlling and Heartthrob allow him to gain special bonuses depending on the state of your obsession and help catch up to survivors who have escaped you.
Stay With Me- Whenever a survivor attempts to use an exhaust perk while in a chase, delay it for 3 / 4 / 5 seconds. (The perk hud will show a countdown, Survivors attempting to use an exhaust perk will be alerted of the debuff immediately.)

Introducing: Isaac Jones
"I saw a young man working on a generator, he looked at me with an expression one only shows when completely exhausted of all emotion. I immediately knew he has dealt with this before and just wants to be left alone, but at the same time... I felt drawn to him..."
DLC: Victims of Affection
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Role:  Level headed Adversary

Difficulty:  Intermediate
Isaac Jones is a normal student at school, but there’s always something about him that draws attention, perhaps it’s his soft, gentle features, or his calm demeanor, he has an easy time making friends in school. Being an only child would leave Isaac lonely sometimes, but the people around him were always there to accompany him.
It wasn’t until he reached middle school that the first day in class he met a new kid, Arlo Hayes. There was something about the way Arlo looked at him, he could sense that he’s been through a lot, and being polite, he gave him a welcoming smile. The two of them shared many similar interests, it was strange, Arlo liked everything he did exactly, but shrugging it off as coincidence, he hung out with him a lot. Whenever a group project was assigned, Arlo would immediately pair himself with him, and figuring it could be worse, Isaac wouldn’t reject him. Arlo was very clingy, he basically lived with Isaac in his own home, it was a struggle to get him to leave sometimes, but he didn’t seem to have ill intentions, just really wanted to be with his friend. Isaac felt smothered all the time, Arlo would never give him an opportunity to breathe, for he was always there, even when Isaac wanted to be alone.
High school finally came around, and Arlo met up with him days before class started, it wasn’t unusual, but something was different this time, Isaac had a hunch, and a feeling of dread overwhelmed him. It was as he feared, Arlo confessed his feelings to him, and as much as Isaac wanted to return the favor, he knew he couldn’t, he knew he couldn’t love him back the way he does. Isaac would do his best to let him down gently, he didn’t want to lose a friend, not one so enthusiastic and energetic, but Arlo didn’t take it lightly, simply leaving without a word.
The next few days were calm, Arlo was nowhere to be seen, this worried Isaac, but he figured he was avoiding him to get over the rejection. It wasn’t until a few days later Arlo showed back up at his doorstep, apologizing for his overreaction and stating that he just wanted to be friends again. Isaac felt a huge weight lifted from his shoulders, knowing that he could be close friends again without worrying about hurting him again. The relief was short-lived, as Isaac quickly found out when Arlo would get too close to him, and making obscene gestures. Isaac felt betrayed, he knew he couldn’t keep this up anymore, it was unhealthy for both of them. Rejecting him one last time, Arlo backed off, leaving without a word once more.
It wasn’t until the middle of the night when a loud shattering was heard awakening his entire family. His mother ran out to the front yard, tripping over a bloody sack on the front door. to her horror, it was their dog, Roxxy, that went missing that day. A knife was inside with a note inside, “LOOK AT WHAT YOU MADE ME DO, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU IGNORE ME!” it said written in Roxxy’s blood. It was obvious who did this, and Isaac called the police.
Several years passed, Arlo was in prison and Isaac was beginning to start a family with his spouse. Without warning, the front door to his house was busted open, crashing to the floor, Arlo charged in. “CHEATER! YOU’RE CHEATING ON ME!” he’d shout, screaming more nonsense on how the two were meant to be together, Arlo thrusted the wooden stake into Isaac’s arm. He screamed in pain, and confusion, realizing who his aggressor was, Isaac squirmed, but it was no use, Arlo has him pinned to the ground beneath him. Without hesitation, Arlo shanked himself in the chest as Isaac bled out on the ground.
The world around the two blackened and grew dark, eerie spider-like tendrils emerged from the ground, slowly cradling the two of them in its embrace, for they will soon have a new purpose together forever.
Isaac’s perks, Stoicism, Back Off and Back Off help him escape unwanted attention from the killer.
Stoicism - You remained unphased when others are endangered, you know how to keep calm in times of stress. For each survivor that is hooked, in dying state or sacrificed, you gain 9 / 12 / 10% bonus vaulting and dropping pallets speed.
“Just because you’re out of your mind doesn’t mean I have to be.”
Unique to Isaac Jones until Level 30, at which point its Teachable version can then be learned and taught to the other Survivors
Stay Away - The unwanted attention you receive has helped you in diffusing many situations. Decreases your chance to become the killer’s obsession. After escaping a chase, fast vaults and failing skill checks will not cause a noise indicator for 9 / 12 / 15 seconds. If you are the obsession, reveal the killer’s aura to you for 4 / 5 / 6 seconds after escaping a chase.
“Cry me a river, build a bridge and GET OVER IT!”
Unique to Isaac Jones until Level 35, at which point its Teachable version can then be learned and taught to the other Survivors
Out of my Way - Passively, you ignore all collisions with idle survivors. After being in a chase for at least 15 seconds, gain the endurance status effect for 5 seconds, during this time running into the killer will stun them for 4 seconds and cause you to break into a sprint at 150% running speed for 3 seconds
Causes Exhaustion for 60 / 50 / 40 seconds
You can only benefit from ignoring collision while exhausted.
“Look, you're a good person, but you have to realise that not everyone wants the same thing as you.”
Unique to Isaac Jones until Level 40, at which point its Teachable version can then be learned and taught to the other Survivors
Isaac Jones has brown hair and brown eyes with a pale skin tone. he is clad in a burgundy hoodie, with beige cargo shorts. He wears black sneakers.

⋆ ◦ ° ⟡ ⌈ dominic sherwood ⌋ — have you met ezekiel ‘zeke’ thomas? they are a twenty-seven year old cis male that goes by he/him. known as the dirtbag, this homosexual scorpio is currently a drug dealer & aspiring filmmaker, and they can be dedicated + protective, as well as crass + paranoid. tan freckled skin. backwards snapbacks. blood-shot eyes.
✩ — ❛ about. ❜
zeke was adopted when he was six years old by matthew and elizabeth thomas in agnes water, where he was raised. zeke doesn’t remember anything about his biological family, having been abandoned at just three years old in the back of a church in sydney; it took the nuns nearly a day to find him there, hiding, and he was very malnourished and badly beaten. he told them with the best of his abilities that he didn’t have any parents, being raised by someone named “uncle jake” instead; the toddler couldn’t give more information other than that, though, and once nobody claimed him with the police he was given for adoption.
matthew and elizabeth were good parents, though zeke could never let go of the mystery surrounding his past; his interest in it fluctuated over the years, with some times ezekiel deciding he didn’t want any family that wasn’t the thomas, and times where he could barely sleep thinking about the life he never had. he spent the last few years trying to find his parents, or at least to figure out who was the man capable of beating a three year old nearly to death before abandoning him behind a church, but so far he hasn’t found much.
he’s a professional filmmaker, having gone to college the ny film academy australia for it, but he has yet to make a living out of his degree. as he waits for his big break, zeke sells weed, ecstasy and cocaine--- he’s been doing such since college, and despite being prone to smoking a bit too much of his marijuana stash, he’s pretty good at his profession.
the anna marie murder was exactly what ezekiel needed to make his filmmaker career launch; he’s currently writing and filming a documentary on the murder & its perpetrator, and it’s becoming a big obsession in his life: he’s constantly bothering the police force for more information, butting his nose where it doesn’t belong and collecting more evidence on it than the police was capable of doing.
✩ — ❛ pesonality. ❜
zeke’s personality changes drastically depending on who’s near him; to the people he cares about, he’s a caring angel, always ready to help and do whatever he can to make them happy. to the people on his bad side, however, zeke is reckless and violent, the kind of guy that punches before he thinks.
he loves the beach, and spends a lot of time on it, swimming and surfing or even just frying under the sun. typical deadbeat druggie of a small town really, he has never had an honest job in his life and will finesse his way around anything.
10/10 fuckboy unless you’re his family he really doesn’t care about your feelings and probably doesn’t even think about how his actions might hurt or harm other people.
gay as fuck and will always remember you of how gay he is; he was in the closet for most of his life, always afraid that he’d be shunned by his family and friends if he came out, but once his mother got tired of him skirting around the subject and straight up told him nobody gave a shit he’s gay it’s like he’s trying to overcompensate for all the years he pretended to be straight.
✩ — ❛ appearances. ❜
6′0 with bleached blond hair and tanned skin, his cheeks always a little too red from spending way too much time in the sun.
he.... hardly ever has a shirt on ? and when he does it’s halfway unbuttoned tbh the man hates wearing clothes.
9/10 times he has some time of glitter or body paint on him you’ll never not see his chest sparkling.
he really likes painting his nails which once again was something he never allowed himself to do but now that he’s out he’s always painting his nails different colors and he loves it.
he dyes his hair constantly, always in unnatural colors like blues and greens and pinks but always ends up going back to the bleached blonde he likes best.
✩ — ❛ wanted plots. ❜
two roommates :: zeke comes from a middle class family but since his main source of income is the drug fiends in town he doesn’t make a lot of money, sharing a crappy apartment downtown with two other people.
a best friend :: someone that has been by his side his entire life, he feels the most comfortable with his person. zeke’s probably very touchy with this person, and they are one of the few people in his life that zeke loves to touch in a platonic way.
a friend with benefits :: zeke doesn’t have a lot of experience in being intimate with men, but he’s down to try anything once and this guy is the first number he calls.
a protective friend :: between his obsessive benders and lack of care for his own well being, zeke doesn’t lead the healthiest of lives, and this person would be someone that looks after him–- sometimes, he just needs some first aid and some comfort, and this person is always there to give it to him.
a childhood friend :: since he was six, zeke lived in agnes water; this person was one of the first people who befriended him in town, and maybe they had a big falling out at some point, for reasons we can definitely plot out later!
friends of all kinds :: despite not being born in town and spending a few years of his adult life away, he knows almost everyone in town. he is very charming and polite, and loves to make friends with as many people as he possibly can.
an ex boyfriend :: this breakup would’ve been pretty recent, maybe in the past three months or so. he was the first man zeke was ever in a serious relationship with, and it probably ended because ezekiel has been consumed with his research on the anna marie murder and ended up spending less and less time with his boyfriend, to the point where they were barely in each other’s lives anymore.

Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour
Guests staying at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour will receive a truly unique experience with iconic views of the Sydney skyline combined with world class facilities including a rooftop infinity... Where do I begin. It was a fantastic stay to say the least. The warm welcome we got from staff member Antonella was like a warm shower. She immediately congratulated me with my pregnancy. And made our stay unforgettable! We were on our babymoon in Australia. And I will never forget how special she made this for us. She arranged an early check-in due the fact that I am heavily pregnant. She surprised us in our room with chocolate, macaroons, strawberries, marshmallows and stuffed Kangaroos for my little baby boy of 2. Personal congratulations notes and also congratulations written in chocolate on the plates! I cannot describe how this made us feel. Could not stopped smiling. She was constantly available if we needed anything. Room was very clean, super comfy bed/pillows and breakfast is amazing! They even make baby chinno’s for toddlers! Super child friendly. Location is amazing! Close to all the highlights of Sydney! Highly recommend to stay here!
Esperance Chalet Village Sydney
ECV is one of the area’s original holiday destinations - re-imagined and refreshed, not modern or fancy, exuding a little old school charm. The adult only A frame chalets, king shacks and log cabins are ideal for couples seeking a romantic retreat. The twin shacks, perfect for a girls getaway and the sweet, cosy cottage for families. The accommodation is set generously across private and peaceful grounds, surrounded by nature. Bountiful with chattering birds attracted to the abundant native planting of hakea, banksia, paperbarks and salt-bush. There's black bream fishing in the creek, complimentary kayaks and cruiser bikes to meander the beach path to town. No passing traffic - just the sound at night of the waves at Bandy Creek boat harbour (a short 5 minute walk from the back of the property).
Hyatt Regency Sydney
A Premium, Waterside Retreat in Sydney Located adjacent to Darling Harbour in Sydney's Central Business District (CBD), the newly renovated hotel is a haven of relaxation for the business or leisure... Hospitality was top-notch. The staff took care of our requests and provided us with a harbor view. Also, when we visited their restaurant for a Christmas dinner, their chef spoilt us for vegetarian choice (in spite the menu not having many vegetarian options). Special mention to Jeff (the chef), he mentioned I wanted your dinner to be spl, so had all these cooked for us. Also, that continued during our breakfast when we mention we do not eat egg, the waiter suggested some good options which we thoroughly enjoyed. Also, the hospitality was beyond our expectations from the entire staff.

Great price at the moment.
The Grace Hotel
Close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, The Grace Hotel offers luxury rooms and a rooftop fitness centre with an indoor swimming pool and a sauna. Bed was superb, very comfortable.
