BROADWAY DIVAS SUPERLATIVES: Happy Pride Month
Broadway is chock full of queer men, and we love and respect them here at the Broadway Divas Tournament, but let's give it up for the oft-overlooked queer women of the stage. Here are just a small handful of the queer ladies to delight us on Broadway.
More Polls
No video clips for this one, but I *strongly* advise you all to seek out Lea DeLaria's jazzy swing version of "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" because if that isn't gay rights, what is?

What did Jason Todd miss while dead?
If Jason died in 1988 and was dead/catatonic/training as an assassin for 3 years, he might have missed such cultural touchstones as:
the sequels to Terminator and Back to the Future (1991 and 1989)
Disney's Little Mermaid (1989)
the very first nintendo gameboy (while this one was before my time, my sister had the color and I had the advance, you young'uns are spoiled with your backlit displays)
If he came back in 2005 and missed the 3-ish years before, he might have missed:
Pirates of the Caribbean (2003) (was this the source or a symptom of the pirate craze?)
The fast and furious sequel(s)
Rosie O'Donnell comes out
The Osbournes reality TV
low rise jeans, according to Buzzfeed (look I lived through the early 00s, I'm biased)
If he came back recently (not my jam but look, we gotta resolve the fanfic timelines somehow) he would have missed....covid.
#jason todd#batman#batfam#dc comics#please imagine a jason fic in which he says#“did you know Terminator got a sequel??”#or perhaps#“why did Disney get the Little Mermaid story so wrong??”

The evolving dramatic universe centered around "NCIS" is hitting a major milestone: 1,000 combined episodes.
The April 15 episode of the original "NCIS" (9 EDT/PDT) will reach the millennial mark propelled by the "NCISverse" of shows that now spans from "NCIS: Hawaii" to "NCIS: Sydney," on CBS and Paramount+. Franchise stars from past and present were on hand for a February celebration during the filming of the episode, which features crossover stars Daniela Ruah (from now-defunct "NCIS: Los Angeles") and Vanessa Lachey (from "NCIS: Hawaii").
Two new upcoming shows – "NCIS: Origins" and the still-untitled spinoff led by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo – were also represented at the party.
"Now it's like our own Marvel universe within 'NCIS,' which is the ultimate testament of the power of this show," says Rocky Carroll, who has portrayed Leon Vance on "NCIS" since 2008.
'NCIS' (2003 - )
"NCIS," also known as "The Mothership," is a spinoff of creator Donald Bellisario's naval legal show "JAG," which aired on NBC in 1995-96 and for nine more seasons (1997-2005) on CBS.
Notable characters: Mark Harmon, the "NCIS" cornerstone as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, left in 2021 after nearly two decades. Other departed original characters include Weatherly's Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo, who departed in 2016 after 13 seasons, Pauley Perrette's Abby Sciuto, exiting in 2018 after 350 episodes, and David McCallum's Donald "Ducky" Mallard (the veteran actor died last year).
"NCIS" has been network TV's most-watched drama for the last five seasons with a team that includes Carroll, Sean Murray (Timothy McGee), Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer), Wilmer Valderrama (Nicholas Torres), Katrina Law (Jessica Knight), Diona Reasonover (Kasie Hines) and Gary Cole (Alden Parker).
Seasons: 21
How to watch: CBS (Mondays 9 EDT/PDT); Paramount+; Netflix (first 15 seasons).
'NCIS: Los Angeles' (2009-23)
Notable characters: Ruah's Kensi Blye and the star pairing of Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J, as G. Callen and Sam Hanna, respectively. Linda Hunt starred as Henrietta "Hetty" Lange and Eric Christian Olsen as Marty Deeks.
Seasons: 14
How to watch: PlutoTV, for purchase on iTunes.
Flavor: The first spinoff was an instant hit that played a crucial role in expanding the franchise "during its incredibly long run," says David Stapf, president of producer CBS Studios.
'NCIS: New Orleans' (2014-21)
Notable characters: Scott Bakula as Dwayne "King" Pride, CCH Pounder as Loretta Wade and Lucas Black as Christopher LaSalle.
Seasons: 7
How to watch: Paramount+, PlutoTV.
'NCIS: Hawai'i' (2021- )
Notable characters: Lachey became the franchise's first female and Asian American, lead as Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant of the Pearl Harbor Field Office. Supporting stars include Alex Tarrant (Kai Holman), Noah Mills (Jesse Boone), Jason Antoon (Ernie Malik), Tori Anderson (Kate Whistler) and Yasmine Al-Bustami (Lucy Tara). Sam, LL Cool J's LA transplant, moved to "NCIS: Hawai'i" in Season 3.
Seasons: 3
How to watch: CBS (Mondays at 10 EDT/PDT), Paramount+.
Flavor: Set in paradise with unforgettable island surroundings and many crimes intertwined with Hawaiian lore – with an added dose of Cool J. Stapf says the actor will continue "hopefully, forever, or as long as he wants to do it."
'NCIS: Sydney' (2023- )
Notable characters: Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann) heads the collaboration between the NCIS Sydney office and the Australian Federal Police led by Jim "JD" Dempsey (Todd Lasance). Originally conceived for Australian TV audiences but recruited to the American schedule during the Hollywood strike, "NCIS: Sydney" has proven its worth, fair dinkum, and was renewed for a second season in March.
Seasons: 1
How to watch:Paramount+
'NCIS: Origins' (CBS 2024-25)
Notable characters: Beloved leader Gibbs returns as a younger man for the franchise's prequel series, "NCIS: Origins," announced in March "The Hating Game" star Austin Stowell will play young Gibbs. "We weren't just casting Gibbs; we were casting a young Mark Harmon," says Stapf. "And Austin embodies it all."
Harmon, 72, will narrate and serve as executive producer. Sean Harmon, Mark's real-life son, who often played the younger version of Gibbs in flashbacks on "NCIS," will also serve as executive producer.
"Origins" follows young Gibbs as he fights for his place on the team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. Kyle Schmid has been cast as the younger version of the Texan Franks (Muse Watson in "NCIS") who played a pivotal role in Gibbs' early career.
How to watch: Coming to CBS this fall.
Untitled Tony and Ziva spinoff (CBS)
Notable characters: Fans loved the special sizzle between agents Tony DiNozzo (Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote De Pablo, who left "NCIS" in 2013 after eight seasons). The couple, known as Tiva, announced their return in February for a European-set spinoff on Paramount+. No premiere date has been set, nor has an actor been cast to play the couple's young daughter Tali.
After Tony’s security company is attacked by terrorists, the new show features a family on the run through Europe.
How to watch: Coming to Paramount+
Flavor: Whatever the title, it's "NCIS: Tiva." In a statement, the two stars promised "an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter."

'Farley Granger and Cathy O’Donnell in They Live by Night (Nicholas Ray, 1948)
Cast: Cathy O’Donnell, Farley Granger, Howard Da Silva, Jay C. Flippen, Helen Craig, Will Wright, William Phipps, Ian Wolfe, Harry Harvey. Screenplay: Charles Schnee, NIcholas Ray, based on a novel by Edward Anderson. Cinematography: George E. Diskant. Art direction: Albert S. D’Agostino, Alfred Herman. Film editing: Sherman Todd. Music: Leigh Harline.
Though usually remembered as a precursor of another, more celebrated lovers-on-the-lam movie, Bonnie and Clyde (Arthur Penn, 1967), They Live by Night stands on its own, largely because of novice director Nicholas Ray's attention to characterization and detail. This is a film with texture, rising above its melodramatic core by constantly introducing peripheral detail. Instead of opening, as a conventional movie might have, with a dramatization of the prison break by Bowie (Farley Granger), Chickamaw (Howard Da Silva), and T-Dub (Jay C. Flippen), it begins with an aerial shot of the stolen car speeding across the landscape -- a daring early use of what has become routine in filmmaking, namely, a helicopter shot. Ray continues to fill his frames with the unexpected: As Bowie hides behind a billboard, waiting for Chickamaw and T-Dub to return with another car, a small dog appears and hangs around the young fugitive. Later, when Bowie and Keechie (Cathy O'Donnell) begin their flight on a Greyhound bus, Bowie is seated beside a woman who is determined to ignore her crying, squirming baby, leaving Bowie to try to quiet the infant. Neither dog nor baby is essential to the scene, but by their very presence they lend a quality of innocence to the boyish fugitive. Bowie and Keechie decide on the spur of the moment to get married in a quickie ceremony conducted by an anything-for-a-buck justice of the peace (Ian Wolfe), who calls on his standby witnesses. After the perfunctory ceremony, the woman witness hugs Keechie, but the male witness declines because he has a cold. Again, the witness's cold is irrelevant to the plot, but it serves to add a subtle note of disorder to the scene, a hint that Bowie and Keechie will always be subject to forces as far beyond their control as the common cold. I don't know whether dog and baby and cold were present in the novel by Edward Anderson, Thieves Like Us, on which the film is based, or if they were introduced in Charles Schnee's screenplay or in Ray's revisions of it, but the fact that they were either introduced or retained in the film speaks volumes on the kind of director Ray was: one attentive to the contingencies that bring a film to life. Granger and O'Donnell are incredibly touching in their performances, and the rest of the cast rise about the stereotypes they could easily have become. Anderson's novel was filmed again, under its original title, by Robert Altman in 1974, and I remember liking that movie. But unless another viewing of Altman's version changes my mind, I think They Live by Night is better.

A Escuridão e o Mel, escrito pelo jornalista Giovanni Arpino, foi o livro que inspirou o filme Perfume de Mulher.
Dados do Filme:
Data de produção: 1992
Direção: Martin Brest
Roteiro: Bo Goldman
Elenco: Al Pacino, Chris O'Donnell, James Rebhorn, Gabrielle Anwar, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Gene Canfield, Richard Venture, Bradley Whitford, June Squibb, Frances Conroy, Rochelle Oliver, Margaret Eginton, Tom Riis Farrell, Nicholas Sadler, Todd Louiso, Matt Smith, Ron Eldard, Margaret Eginton, Sally Murphy, Michael Santoro, Julian e Max Stein, Alyson e Erika Feldman e Leonard Gaines.
Bom dia!

Today’s show is sponsored by Rie Sheridan Rose. Rie writes many things, but one of her favorite things to do is to create a new song and send it out in the world. Thanks to the brilliance of her musicians, they always sound lovely, even though she can't write a note of music.
Rie was one of our generous supporters of our Kickstarter earlier this year. She’s a fantastic writer and songwriter. In fact, I’ve set many of her poems to music. Half of my Firefly album, As Long As I’m Flyin’ was written by Rie. Most of my album Don’t Go Drinking With Hobbits, was written by her as well. She wrote ALL of the lyrics for my album, Pirates vs Dragons. She also wrote the song “Soul of a Harper” which I’ll share today as well.
Follow the link in the shownotes to learn more about Rie Sheridan Rose.
You’ll also find a link to her enormous collection of books and writings on Amazon.
I am all packed and ready to fly to Scotland later this evening. I have one week in Scotland followed by a week visiting my mom in Italy. I’ll try to post a blog on Patreon during the week to let you know how things are going and if we find any new favorite places to hike in Scotland. You can follow our Patreon page for free and get some blogs.
If you are a Celtic musician or in a Celtic band, then please submit your band to be played on the podcast. You don’t have to send in music or an EPK. You will get a free eBook called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music and learn how to follow the podcast. It’s 100% free. Just email Email follow@bestcelticmusic and of course, listeners can learn how to subscribe to the podcast and get a free music - only episode.

I didn't expect to be writing in to a podcast today, but I had yesterday's episode playing while I was working from home today and was pleasantly surprised by the second track you selected, by Keltricity; the set they were playing is all tunes that my dad, John Goodin, composed. He passed away two and a half years ago now. He was a mandolinist and guitarist, who composed a pretty wide range of music from dance tunes to classical pieces; the Classical Mandolin Society of America has preserved his website and blog at https://mandotopia.classicalmandolinsociety.org/, where he collected all his recordings and sheet music (much of it freely available under a Creative Commons license and maintained by CMSA).
I see that Keltricity is from Louisville, which makes sense, as my dad was one of the founding members of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra before my family relocated to northeastern Iowa; he kept in touch with a lot of the local musicians and the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra actually played so many of his pieces that they ended up recording a CD of them (called, of course, "It's All Goodin"). The tunes Keltricity played in that set are all ones that were in the repertoire for my dad's contra dance band, Contratopia, and that recording featured some of his published harmony parts as well. Contratopia still regularly plays for dances here in Minneapolis where I live, at the same folk dance hall where my own band plays, so we're keeping up the music since he's gone.
I'm not sure if you've ever played Contratopia on the show, sorry - - I definitely haven't listened to the full back catalog of podcasts, though I've been an occasional listener for many years! - - but I know you've played a track by another band that their pianist is in, Brass Lassie, so if you haven't checked their recordings out, you might like to! Their albums all have a mix of original tunes by band members and traditional tunes in Celtic and old - time styles. They used to tour the DC area contra dance scene and play for the Sunday afternoon all - waltzes dances there, so there's probably more than your average number of waltzes on their albums.
Sorry for such a long email! Last bit of fun trivia as a thank - you, the "Maggie" in the tune name from that set is our old family dog, a border collie we had when I was little. (She predated the digital age or I'd include a photo!) My dad wrote so many tunes that he named them after anything he could think of (or just the day he wrote them, if he never got around to a proper name), so there's several named after our various pets. This set has another one named after Maggie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56neWaCahc4
I hope you have a good weekend, and thanks again for the great surprise!"
Check out this episode!

Pt. 2 (Just because) -- Chris, Vanessa Lachey, and Sean Murray (a.k.a. BINX) on Entertainment Tonight.
Poor Vanessa had her secret revealed that she had a crush on Chris, and I was surprised to hear her cite Mad Love because that one isn’t often cited. But it was lovely to hear her say that it taught her to love love. <3. An underrated flick, for sure. (And directed by a female director, which was pretty notable back then especially since it wasn’t something that COD’s peers tended to do.)
Anyway! I think it’s great how he’s trying not to grin too much when Sean is talking about LL/Todd and his boombox with Journey playing. Because Chris has told similar stories before.
#chris o'donnell#ncis la#another comfy shirt#and some fun ll cool j / todd stories#because you can tell everyone is so excited to work with him#and the vanessa story was fun also#because i think some people don't realize how intertwined to the zeitgeist cod was in the 90s#and how many notable and nostalgia flicks he was in#but anyway

IMPORTANT NEWS:
the dlc allowing players to purchase and use certain items has become free and automaticslly implimented! all players, not just devs like markiplier, can now purchase and use the new apple vision pro item!
on another note, the universe 04 team is still working sround the clock to remove power from ex-devs who abuse their power to become famous and rich and powerful. and to erase rumours, thse fsmous and powerful people *were* players who did not hsve special dev acces:
queen elizabeth, who died in 2021
hatsune miku, even thiugh she is actually a dev, becauze the version of her in universe 04 isnt even a real person, pleade stop accusing a fake character of being a dev {even if its technicallyy sort of right}
martin o'donnel, hes just really really good at making music
todd howard, ceo of bethesda
