Producer Letter #14
Same old 80% translation, 20% paraphrase mix as usual. Hit the jump to read more!
To everyone supporting Idolish Seven,
This marks the first producer letter of 2018! We have just finished releasing Part 3 in the game, and episode 15 marks the end of our regular airing schedule for the TV anime. (TL Note: no fear, the anime's not over yet! more on this later)
The Idolish Seven Exhibit has been open for about half a year following our second anniversary, and the exhibit closed yesterday. We are very happy that we were able to tour various cities with everyone's help, and we thank everyone for your support!
There is currently an event going on at VR ZONE called "PRISM NIGHT", hi-resolution versions of our music* are available at SONY, and our idols will be acting as the advertising representatives for JR Tokai Tours's "OFF/Journey Campaign!"
We are happy that our talents are getting so much work, and we truly feel as if we've taken a step towards the future we envision for our project.
PRISM NIGHT SONY Hi-res Audio JR Tokai Tours
*TL Note: not sure if this encompasses the entire i7 discography but a side note, "hi-res audio" refers to .flac files aka God Tier Lossless A+++ Sound Quality, whereas most tracks available for digital download are in mp3 or m4a format, which are great but not fully lossless! I actually can't watch the video rn because I'm a fool and forgot my earbuds but I believe that is what's going on!
Today, we'd like to talk about the following topics...
【The Project as a Whole】
◆ Part 3
Thank you for walking alongside our idols all the way from April 27th, 2017 through Chapter 20!
We've received continuous support ever since we started releasing Part 3, and we are truly happy we were able to deliver all of Part 3 to everyone without fail.
Part 3 is a turning point within the work, as we've stated in previous producer letters, and the characters have undergone various changes as they confronted hardships and advanced forward within the story.
It took a long time to deliver all of Part 3, and we'd like to thank you for your patience from the bottom of our hearts. Although it took a long time, we've gleaned equal amounts of confidence and were able to present a lot of stories and carefully craft the songs as a result.
We hope to continue crafting this project with the utmost care, and we thank you for your continued support.
◆ The Anime
Looking back, we spent about a year working on the anime script with TROYCA. As for the anime series composition, the last episode of the anime’s regular broadcast aired yesterday with episode 15.
The image of Director Bessho declaring, "Let's do a good job on episode 15*, and make episodes 16 and 17 one episode!" still firmly remains in my memory. While I cannot go into great detail as some of you may not have watched episode 15 yet, we firmly believe that viewers will be able to enjoy episodes 16+17 precisely because of everything that has happened thus far and because of everything that we have built up through episode 15.
We hope you keep watching until the end!
Episode 16・17 will be broadcast during the following dates and times (JST):
TOKYO MX 2018/5/19 Saturday, 19:30~ KBS Kyoto 2018/5/22 Tuesday, 23:00~ Sun TV 2018/5/22 Tuesday, late night 1:30~ TV Aichi 2018/5/20 Sunday, scheduled for late night broadcast TV Hokkaido 2018/5/19 Saturday, scheduled for late night broadcast TVQ Kyushu Broadcast 2018/5/20 Sunday, late night 3:35~ BS11 2018/5/24 Thursday, late night 1:30~
※ In the case that any changes are made to the broadcasting schedule, please check the TV anime's official site or the official Twitter for the anime.
Volumes 1 and 2 of the Blu-ray/DVD are currently on sale as well!
◆ 1st LIVE 『Road To Infinity」
We announced this concert back in January of this year, and holding this concert is one of our many dreams regarding this project.
It has been in planning for two years now, and it is thanks to the anime production committee that we are able to have our idols take such a grand stage. Not just that, we are truly overjoyed that we have the opportunity to have all three groups (IDOLiSH7, TRIGGER, Re:vale) perform live together.
We have one more important announcement to make regarding the concert!
People who have cleared a certain requiremnet in-game will be given the opportunity to enter the lottery for concert tickets. We will be revealing more details on this soon.
The campaign start time, requirements, and specific website for this campaign can be found via "In-game Announcements" and we plan on releasing this soon. Please remember to log into your game, and we hope you look forward to it!
◆ Fan Thanksgiiving Event* *TL Note: kanshasai for anyone used to the romaji form
We started holding these events back in 2017, and this time we'll be holding Volume 3 of "Kimi to Motto ×2 Ai wo Kataranai to!"
Additionally, we will be holding live viewing sessions for Vol. 3, and we hope to have tons of fans enjoying the event in real-time!
Live Viewing Ticket Reservation Time Period April 7th, Saturday, 12:00 (JST) - April 22nd, Sunday, 23:59 (JST)
More details can be found here at the official site!
◆ Music
How is everyone enjoying the songs from the anime?
We've included tons of surprises so all fans, both new and old, can enjoy the anime!
We would be delighted if people became more interested in the world of Idolish Seven because of the songs that adorn the franchise!
Additionally, the BGM for each scene from the TV anime will be included in the OST, "SOUND OF RAiNBOW" (on sale April 25th, 2018)!
There are two comprehensive CDs filled with songs, so we hope you purchase it!
Furthermore, "Nanatsuiro REALiZE" by IDOLiSH7, the last unlockable song from Part 3 of the game story, will be on sale on June 20th, 2018.
We have also started on the "12 SONGS GIFT" series of birthday songs for each idol, and we thank everyone for the high praise it has received.
We hope everyone continues to enjoy this series as we show more sides to each idol, and we will be doing our best to ensure this.
◆ Music Videos
The full version of the music video MAPPA produced for us has been released, and we hope everyone watches it!
Additionally, TRIGGER's newest music video, "DIAMOND FUSION," will also be released soon.
We hope to continue to create more videos for everyone's enjoyment, so please look forward to it.
"Nanatsuiro REALiZE" marks the 7th installment in the Idolish Seven Music Video Animation Project. We hope to deliver more to everyone and try a different format from YouTube, so we hope everyone looks forward to it!
◆ Comicalization & Novelization
We will soon be finishing up the comicalization of "Banri Ikkuu!"
"Senko Fuma" and "Hyakusai Mukyuu" will also be released for a limited time only on Hakusensha Novels, and we also intend on comicalizing these parts as well.
We thank you for your continued support!
【About the Game】
We hope everyone is enjoying the game alongside the anime!
We have tons of new songs, events, and scouts prepared. The anime's finale will be airing soon, and we hope everyone will enjoy it!
【Future Game Adjustments & Additions】
◆ Events
As we mentioned in the previous Producer Letter, we are focusing up on making the game easier to understand. For example, clearing up which items are necessary for helping your idols grow and where to get them, what the requirements are for moving an idol to the Waiting Room, etc.
As we approach the two and a half year mark, we hope to make game functions and each type of event easier to understand, and improve upon each.
With regards to this topic, we will be giving more details through each subsequent update, in-game announcements, and the official twitter rather than here in this letter.
◆ Questions, Comments, or Concerns about the Game In the case that you would like to express your opinion to the staff, please contact us through the official site.
Thank you for reading all the way through this letter!
I'm sure some of you may be thinking, "You didn't answer my question!!"
But in response to that, there's one thing we'd like to promise you:
We guarantee that we will deliver only the best to you!
Last but not least, we would like to thank all of our hardworking staff, and we hope to continue working with everyone.
Let's all watch the anime! And let's all play Ainana!
TL Notes/comments:
I, too, would like to thank everyone for reading this far too! I am a day later than I would’ve liked for putting this out, so thank you for guys your patience.
As for other translation stuff, 9.5 will be posted later today and Chapter 10 is currently in the works! Now that Part 3 is over, I can finally catch up without fear of the next part dropping! Woohoo!!!!
As always, if you see any mistakes/mistranslations/etc, do not hesitate to drop me an ask! I don’t check tumblr chat messages as often, so if you’d like to bring something to my immediate attention, the best avenue to do that is via askbox!
Once more, thank you for reading!

Becontree Estate London Commissions
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is marking the centenary of the ground-breaking Becontree Estate in East London with an ambitious series of art and architecture commissions, accompanied by events and a learning programme.
Once described as the largest council estate in the world, the Becontree Estate in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham remains the largest council estate in the UK, home to over 75,000 residents. Built 100 years ago and conceived as part of the Garden City movement, it was a feat of government planning and radical housing policy. Becontree set the agenda for housing that put wellbeing for its residents and typological innovation at the heart of its design. It was the originator of the cul-de-sac and most houses had both front and back gardens – unprecedented for public housing at the time.
Today, Becontree is a different estate, shaped by 100 years of changes in political decision-making, shifts in demographics and post-industrialization. The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is working to renew and revive the estate for current residents and future generations.
The Becontree centenary is a partnership project between Create London, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) and RIBA, supported by LBBD and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Additional support has been granted by Arts Council England and the Span Trust.
Marie Bak Mortensen, Head of Exhibitions at RIBA:
“RIBA is delighted to be part of the Becontree Centenary. Through a variety of projects we aim to form new understandings of the estate by both residents and non-residents. The exhibitions and commissions highlight the role that residents have played in the development of Becontree since 1921 and the changing relationship between the physical space and its community.”

30 September 2021 – 05 February 2022
Architecture Gallery, RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London, W1. FREE ADMISSION
Drawing on her long-term engagement with the Becontree Estate as an artist in residence, RIBA has commissioned Verity-Jane Keefe to respond to the estate, it’s history and current community as it looks forward to the next 100 years.
Keefe has approached the estate as an archive in itself, analysing the layering and alterations to its buildings as a means of understanding the impact that housing policy and political decision-making have at ground level. The artist’s study of these physical outcomes reveals the impact of right to buy and de-industrialization amidst the lived experiences of the residents.
New artwork by Keefe will be presented alongside 33 objects from the RIBA Collections. This juxtaposition will highlight how adaptions, extensions and home-improvements by Becontree residents follow the same trajectory we see throughout history – that architecture is never finished, but ever-evolving as part of post-occupancy and over time reflects broader changes in society.
The commission is co-curated by RIBA and Create London, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Photographer Kalpesh Lathigra has been commissioned to produce new work that will offer a nuanced study of the architecture on the Becontree Estate in 2021. The series complements the exhibition with Verity-Jane Keefe. Working predominantly on international projects, Lathigra was born, raised and still resides in East London. Through this commission, he will turn his attention to an area that is both familiar and new to him. It will be his debut public solo show in the UK, with the photographs being permanently accessioned into the RIBA Collections.
The commission is supported using public funding by Arts Council England and Span Trust.

Opening 30 September 2021
A collaboration between students from Mayesbrook Park School, an alternative provision school in Becontree, and social enterprise POoR (Power Out of Restriction) Collective will result in a new public realm installation in central London’s Regent’s Park. This is the culmination of a series of workshops that have explored ideas of belonging and activating public spaces. The installation will express the young people’s collective experiences of central London as a mythical place – a landmark in their memory – that represents an area so close to Becontree, yet so far away from their reality and daily life. Through a colourful and functional structure, the young people will take residence in the park, using their voice to create a place where they can have a genuine stake in and invite park dwellers to perform new uses of the iconic park with them.
The commission delivered in partnership with Royal Parks and is supported using public funding by Arts Council England and Span Trust.

Becontree Estate
On site Nov 2021- Feb 2022; launch March 2022
The Becontree Estate, one of the first and largest estates informed by the ideas of the Garden City movement was designed with a vast amount of open, green space including over 2,000 ‘corner plots’ at the end of rows of houses, which are now often neglected or underused.
This commission with nimtim architects and artist Katie Schwab will redesign 12 of these into 3 new public squares for people to rest, play, grow and meet. Each square encourages new activities and performs new functions by inviting residents to take ownership of them. The designs are inspired by geometries, colours, and materials that already exist within the estate.
The Corner Plot commission is co-commissioned by Create London and RIBA, supported by London Borough of Barking & Dagenham through Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy
The Architecture Gallery commission with artist Verity-Jane Keefe is co-curated by Pete Collard, RIBA and Diana Ibáñez López, Create London.

What Is Bitcoin Mining?
Chances are you hear the phrase “bitcoin mining” and your mind begins to wander to the Western fantasy of pickaxes, dirt and striking it rich. As it turns out, that analogy isn’t too far off.
Bitcoin mining is performed by high-powered computers that solve complex computational math problems; these problems are so complex that they cannot be solved by hand and are complicated enough to tax even incredibly powerful computers.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Bitcoin mining is the process of creating new bitcoin by solving a computational puzzle.
Bitcoin mining is necessary to maintain the ledger of transactions upon which bitcoin is based.
Miners have become very sophisticated over the last several years using complex machinery to speed up mining operations.
The result of bitcoin mining is twofold. First, when computers solve these complex math problems on the bitcoin network, they produce new bitcoin (not unlike when a mining operation extracts gold from the ground). And second, by solving computational math problems, bitcoin miners make the bitcoin payment network trustworthy and secure by verifying its transaction information.
When someone sends bitcoin anywhere, it's called a transaction. Transactions made in-store or online are documented by banks, point-of-sale systems, and physical receipts. Bitcoin miners achieve the same thing by clumping transactions together in “blocks” and adding them to a public record called the “blockchain.” Nodes then maintain records of those blocks so that they can be verified into the future.
When bitcoin miners add a new block of transactions to the blockchain, part of their job is to make sure that those transactions are accurate. In particular, bitcoin miners make sure that bitcoin is not being duplicated, a unique quirk of digital currencies called “double-spending.” With printed currencies, counterfeiting is always an issue. But generally, once you spend $20 at the store, that bill is in the clerk’s hands. With digital currency, however, it's a different story.
Digital information can be reproduced relatively easily, so with Bitcoin and other digital currencies, there is a risk that a spender can make a copy of their bitcoin and send it to another party while still holding onto the original.1
Special Considerations
Rewarding Bitcoin Miners
With as many as 300,000 purchases and sales occurring in a single day, verifying each of those transactions can be a lot of work for miners.2 As compensation for their efforts, miners are awarded bitcoin whenever they add a new block of transactions to the blockchain.
The amount of new bitcoin released with each mined block is called the "block reward." The block reward is halved every 210,000 blocks (or roughly every 4 years). In 2009, it was 50. In 2013, it was 25, in 2018 it was 12.5, and in May of 2020, it was halved to 6.25.
Bitcoin successfully halved its mining reward—from 12.5 to 6.25—for the third time on May 11th, 2020.
This system will continue until around 2140.3 At that point, miners will be rewarded with fees for processing transactions that network users will pay. These fees ensure that miners still have the incentive to mine and keep the network going. The idea is that competition for these fees will cause them to remain low after halvings are finished.
These halvings reduce the rate at which new coins are created and, thus, lower the available supply. This can cause some implications for investors, as other assets with low supply—like gold—can have high demand and push prices higher. At this rate of halving, the total number of bitcoin in circulation will reach a limit of 21 million, making the currency entirely finite and potentially more valuable over time.3
El Salvador made Bitcoin legal tender on June 9, 2021.4 It is the first country to do so. The cryptocurrency can be used for any transaction where the business can accept it. The U.S. dollar continues to be El Salvador’s primary currency.
Verifying Bitcoin Transactions
In order for bitcoin miners to actually earn bitcoin from verifying transactions, two things have to occur. First, they must verify one megabyte (MB) worth of transactions, which can theoretically be as small as one transaction but are more often several thousand, depending on how much data each transaction stores.
Second, in order to add a block of transactions to the blockchain, miners must solve a complex computational math problem, also called a "proof of work." What they're actually doing is trying to come up with a 64-digit hexadecimal number, called a "hash," that is less than or equal to the target hash. Basically, a miner's computer spits out hashes at different rates—megahashes per second (MH/s), gigahashes per second (GH/s), or terahashes per second (TH/s)—depending on the unit, guessing all possible 64-digit numbers until they arrive at a solution. In other words, it's a gamble.
The difficulty level of the most recent block as of August 2020 is more than 16 trillion. That is, the chance of a computer producing a hash below the target is 1 in 16 trillion. To put that in perspective, you are about 44,500 times more likely to win the Powerball jackpot with a single lottery ticket than you are to pick the correct hash on a single try. Fortunately, mining computer systems spit out many hash possibilities. Nonetheless, mining for bitcoin requires massive amounts of energy and sophisticated computing operations.
The difficulty level is adjusted every 2016 blocks, or roughly every 2 weeks, with the goal of keeping rates of mining constant.5 That is, the more miners there are competing for a solution, the more difficult the problem will become. The opposite is also true. If computational power is taken off of the network, the difficulty adjusts downward to make mining easier.
Bitcoin Mining Analogy
Say I tell three friends that I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100, and I write that number on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. My friends don't have to guess the exact number, they just have to be the first person to guess any number that is less than or equal to the number I am thinking of. And there is no limit to how many guesses they get.
Let's say I'm thinking of the number 19. If Friend A guesses 21, they lose because 21>19. If Friend B guesses 16 and Friend C guesses 12, then they've both theoretically arrived at viable answers, because 16<19 and 12<19. There is no 'extra credit' for Friend B, even though B's answer was closer to the target answer of 19.
Now imagine that I pose the 'guess what number I'm thinking of' question, but I'm not asking just three friends, and I'm not thinking of a number between 1 and 100. Rather, I'm asking millions of would-be miners and I'm thinking of a 64-digit hexadecimal number. Now you see that it's going to be extremely hard to guess the right answer.
Not only do bitcoin miners have to come up with the right hash, but they also have to be the first to do it.
Because bitcoin mining is essentially guesswork, arriving at the right answer before another miner has almost everything to do with how fast your computer can produce hashes. Just a decade ago, bitcoin mining could be performed competitively on normal desktop computers. Over time, however, miners realized that graphics cards commonly used for video games were more effective and they began to dominate the game. In 2013, bitcoin miners started to use computers designed specifically for mining cryptocurrency as efficiently as possible, called Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC). These can run from several hundred dollars to tens of thousands but their efficiency in mining Bitcoin is superior.
Today, bitcoin mining is so competitive that it can only be done profitably with the most up-to-date ASICs. When using desktop computers, GPUs, or older models of ASICs, the cost of energy consumption actually exceeds the revenue generated. Even with the newest unit at your disposal, one computer is rarely enough to compete with what miners call "mining pools."
A mining pool is a group of miners who combine their computing power and split the mined bitcoin between participants. A disproportionately large number of blocks are mined by pools rather than by individual miners. Mining pools and companies have represented large percentages of bitcoin's computing power.
Bitcoin vs. Traditional Currencies
Consumers tend to trust printed currencies. That’s because the U.S. dollar is backed by a central bank of the U.S., called the Federal Reserve. In addition to a host of other responsibilities, the Federal Reserve regulates the production of new money, and the federal government prosecutes the use of counterfeit currency.6 7
Even digital payments using the U.S. dollar are backed by a central authority. When you make an online purchase using your debit or credit card, for example, that transaction is processed by a payment processing company (such as Mastercard or Visa). In addition to recording your transaction history, those companies verify that transactions are not fraudulent, which is one reason your debit or credit card may be suspended while traveling.
Bitcoin, on the other hand, is not regulated by a central authority. Instead, bitcoin is backed by millions of computers across the world called “nodes.” This network of computers performs the same function as the Federal Reserve, Visa, and Mastercard, but with a few key differences. Nodes store information about prior transactions and help to verify their authenticity. Unlike those central authorities, however, bitcoin nodes are spread out across the world and record transaction data in a public list that can be accessed by anyone.
History of Bitcoin Mining
Between 1 in 16 trillion odds, scaling difficulty levels, and the massive network of users verifying transactions, one block of transactions is verified roughly every 10 minutes.5 But it’s important to remember that 10 minutes is a goal, not a rule.
The bitcoin network is currently processing just under four transactions per second as of August 2020, with transactions being logged in the blockchain every 10 minutes.8 For comparison, Visa can process somewhere around 65,000 transactions per second.9 As the network of bitcoin users continues to grow, however, the number of transactions made in 10 minutes will eventually exceed the number of transactions that can be processed in 10 minutes. At that point, waiting times for transactions will begin and continue to get longer, unless a change is made to the bitcoin protocol.
This issue at the heart of the bitcoin protocol is known as “scaling.” While bitcoin miners generally agree that something must be done to address scaling, there is less consensus about how to do it. There have been two major solutions proposed to address the scaling problem. Developers have suggested either (1) creating a secondary "off-chain" layer to Bitcoin that would allow for faster transactions that can be verified by the blockchain later, or (2) increasing the number of transactions that each block can store. With less data to verify per block, the Solution 1 would make transactions faster and cheaper for miners. Solution 2 would deal with scaling by allowing for more information to be processed every 10 minutes by increasing block size.
In July 2017, bitcoin miners and mining companies representing roughly 80% to 90% of the network’s computing power voted to incorporate a program that would decrease the amount of data needed to verify each block.
The program that miners voted to add to the bitcoin protocol is called a segregated witness, or SegWit. This term is an amalgamation of Segregated, meaning “to separate,” and Witness, which refers to “signatures on a bitcoin transaction.” Segregated Witness, then, means to separate transaction signatures from a block — and attach them as an extended block. While adding a single program to the bitcoin protocol may not seem like much in the way of a solution, signature data has been estimated to account for up to 65% of the data processed in each block of transactions.
Less than a month later in August 2017, a group of miners and developers initiated a hard fork, leaving the bitcoin network to create a new currency using the same codebase as bitcoin. Although this group agreed with the need for a solution to scaling, they worried that adopting segregated witness technology would not fully address the scaling problem.
Instead, they went with Solution 2. The resulting currency, called “bitcoin cash,” increased the blocksize to 8 MB in order to accelerate the verification process to allow a performance of around 2 million transactions per day. On August 16, 2020, Bitcoin Cash was valued at about $302 to Bitcoin’s roughly $11,800.

Economic and Revenue Forecast, May 2019
This morning the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis released the latest quarterly economic and revenue forecast. For the full document, slides and forecast data please see our main website. Below is the forecast’s Executive Summary.
The economy is on firmer ground today following a rocky start to the year. The combination of softer economic data and concerns over potential policy mistakes raised the risk of recession. However as the data flow improves, and the Federal Reserve’s dovish pivot, recession fears have faded. That said the economy is slowing down following last year’s tax cut fueled growth. Economic gains over the upcoming 2019-21 biennium will be more in-line with underlying growth in the labor force and productivity. Encouragingly, the latter has shown signs of life recently due to the tighter labor market. The recent escalation in the trade war is a wildcard. It is too soon to know how disruptive it may be to global supply chains as developments are ongoing.
While the U.S. economy is just now beginning to slow, Oregon’s has for the past few years. Now, the state continues to see healthy rates of growth. However Oregon is no longer significantly outpacing the nation like it was a couple of years ago. Overall, this was not unexpected. So far this biennium, actual employment, personal income, and population in Oregon have closely tracked the forecast.
Looking forward, Oregon’s economic outlook calls for ongoing, but slower growth this year and next. The tighter labor market, somewhat fewer in-migrants, fading federal fiscal stimulus and past interest rate hikes all cool economic activity. That said, Oregon continues to hit the sweet spot. Growth is strong enough to keep up with a growing population but also deliver economic and income gains to Oregonians. This pattern is expected to continue until the next recession, whenever it comes.
While economic growth in Oregon is slowing down as expected, the same cannot be said for our General Fund tax revenues. During the peak tax filing season, Oregon saw record collections of both personal and corporate income taxes. Both are up more than 50% relative to this time last year. Now, most other states that depend on income taxes have also experienced very big years. However, tax collections have come in far above what underlying economic gains could reasonably support.
Clearly, taxpayer responses to federal tax reform are playing a large role in these record collections. Law changes have broadened the tax base for some business income, and have given taxpayers the incentive to shift the timing of their payments. With lower tax rates in 2018, filers tried to recognize as much income as possible during the tax year. How much liability remains to be realized in future years is an open question.
Projected 2017-19 Net General Fund resources are up $883 million from the May 2019 forecast. Including Lottery revenues, net resources are up $908 million. As a result, Oregon’s unique kicker law has been triggered for both personal and corporate taxes. A record (in dollar terms) $1.4 billion personal kicker is projected for 2019-21, while corporate tax revenue of $616 million is projected to be dedicated to K-12 education spending.
Given Oregon’s economic and revenue forecast history, kicker payments of this size are a once a decade event. The median filer will receive a kicker credit of $338 next year, while the average filer will receive a credit of $691. Filers in the top 1% of the income distribution will receive a credit of nearly $14,000.
Heading into the next biennium, uncertainty about the performance of the regional economy will become paramount. Growth will certainly slow to a more sustainable rate in the coming years, but the path taken to get there is unknown. Capacity constraints, an aging workforce, monetary policy drags and fading stimulus all put a lid on growth a couple of years down the road. However, the exact timing and steepness of this deceleration is difficult to predict, leading to a wide range of possible revenue outcomes for the 2019-21 biennium.

Iowa Lottery Meets Budget Targets In Latest Fiscal Year
We've released the Iowa Lottery's annual results today, with its sales, proceeds to state causes, and prizes to players all meeting budget targets for fiscal year 2020 even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s gratifying to be able to look back at the past 12 months – and particularly the months of the public health emergency – and see that we’ve been able to adapt and deliver on our promise to responsibly generate revenue for important Iowa causes.
The preliminary figures today show that the lottery generated $81.5 million in proceeds to state causes for the year. Annual lottery sales in FY 2020 were $372 million, while prizes to players totaled $236.3 million. Lottery sales commissions to the local businesses statewide that sell its tickets totaled $24.3 million.
All of those figures are understandably down a bit from the previous year’s numbers. The lottery’s FY 2020 results were largely impacted by two main factors: the COVID-19 pandemic and a relative lack of big jackpots in national lotto games.
The jackpots in Mega Millions® and Powerball® both repeatedly climbed into the stratosphere in fiscal year 2019, with the Mega Millions grand prize in particular reaching more than $1.5 billion in October 2018, the largest jackpot in the history of that game. But in FY 2020, both games’ jackpots were won more often at lower levels ($40 million to $100 million). That meant lower overall sales in both games, and the COVID-19 emergency impacted the lotto category even more, with sales in lotto games nationwide falling during the pandemic.
But at the same time, scratch-game sales in Iowa had a strong year. Scratch games sold well throughout FY 2020, including during the months of the pandemic. Iowans who suddenly had a lot of time at home made scratch tickets part of their entertainment options along with the puzzles, board games and bicycles that have been selling at such high rates they’re now in short supply in many places.
Scratch-ticket sales in Iowa have set annual records each year since FY 2015, and did that again in FY 2020, totaling $262.4 million. That’s an increase of $11.8 million from the previous year’s total for that product.
The lottery retailer with the highest sales in Iowa for the year was the Hy-Vee at 1843 Johnson Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids. That store sold more than $911,000 in lottery tickets in FY 2020.
The largest lottery prize won during the year in Iowa was $1 million, and two players each claimed that amount. Shane Saxen of Correctionville claimed a $1 million Powerball prize in March, and a group of five friends from Eldora calling themselves "Just Us" claimed a $1 million Mega Millions prize in December.

Eight games that changed the results of the NHL draft lottery
OK, so maybe there really wasn’t a lot of suspense to be had in Tuesday’s draft lottery. You could have saved yourself some time by just reading my preview, which correctly predicted the Devils winning the top pick. Or you could have skipped that too and just known which team Taylor Hall plays for.
Hall is Mr. Lottery, a fact he’s embraced over the years and was quick to remind us of that night:
They talk about Gretzky’s 92 goals or Sittler’s 10 pts in one game as records that may never be broken. But winning 5 draft lotteries in your first 9 years in the league? In 2 different draft lottery eras, no less. That is a record that will stand forever.
— Taylor Hall (@hallsy09) April 10, 2019
It’s possible that Hall is just unstoppable, and nothing could have prevented the lottery from playing out the way it did. Then again, maybe you don’t buy into that particular brand of superstition.
If so, then you’ve come to the right place, because it’s time for the annual round of “Find a single game from the season that would have changed the lottery outcome.”
This has been kind of a hobby of mine over the years. For every draft lottery, once you know who won, you can look back and find games from that season that altered the results. The most memorable example is probably the infamous Patrik Stefan flub, which ended up sending Patrick Kane to the Blackhawks instead of the Oilers. Edmonton’s win in the last game ever played at Rexall Place ended up costing them Auston Matthews. A late Geoff Sanderson goal in 2004 cost the Blue Jackets the Alexander Ovechkin pick.
You can do this all day. It’s fun. Or, depending on your perspective and how close your team came to a franchise-altering lottery win, extremely un-fun.
First, let’s explain what we’re even talking about. Many fans assume that the NHL draft lottery just involves a barrel full of ping pong balls with each team’s logo on them. That would be the easy way to do it, but the league is looking for more control over the odds. So instead, they use 14 numbered balls, and draw four of them. That gives them 1,001 combinations, which they assign in advance to the qualifying teams. (You can read about the whole process on this page; the actual number combos can be found here; these were the actual winners.)
Those combinations are handed out based on the final standings, which means that it’s not really teams that are winning or losing the lottery at all – it’s spots in the standings. There are three winners every year, and this year the lucky slots were 29th, 26th and 20th. Whichever teams were holding down those spots were going to win. We just didn’t know that until Tuesday night.
(I’ll pause here to acknowledge that you can get into some “time traveler steps on a butterfly” arguments here, where changing the results of one game ends up impacting other things that happen in the future. If you feel very strongly about this and won’t be able to enjoy this premise because of it, I encourage you to go argue philosophy in the comment section of a Mirtle article while the rest of us have a little fun here.)
Some years, there’s no single game that would change a certain result. For example, in the Connor McDavid lottery in 2015, no team was even within five points of the Oilers on either side, so they could have won or lost a few extra games without changing anything. But other years, we get plenty of what if scenarios.
This is one of those years. By my count, there are 12 teams that could have won or lost one of the three lottery draws based on changing the outcome of just one game on their schedule. So that’s what we’re going to do today. Here are some of the (many) games from the 2018-19 season that could have altered the result of Tuesday’s draft lottery.
Arizona Coyotes – March 26
The Coyotes finished with 86 points, two up on Chicago for that winning No. 20 spot. But they also would have held the ROW tiebreaker, so just having them lose an extra game doesn’t do it. No, we have to flip the results of a game where they beat the Blackhawks. And luckily, we have two to choose from.
The first was a 4-1 win in Chicago on Oct. 18. But all else being equal we prefer more recent games – less time for those butterflies to get stepped on, and all – so let’s go with March 26. On that night, the Hawks and Coyotes went into the third period locked in a 0-0 tie. Arizona’s Nick Cousins banged home a rebound to make it 1-0, and the lead held up for a regulation win.
If the Hawks get that first goal instead and win the game, the Coyotes end up dropping to 20th, and they’re holding the lucky combo to move up to the third-overall pick. Instead, they’re picking 14th, all because of one game.
See how this works? Fun, right? Trust me, it’s going to get so much worse.
Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres – November 30
The Panthers finished tied with the Coyotes but make for an easier case because they wouldn’t have owned the tiebreaker against the Hawks, meaning all we have to do is turn any ROW into a regulation loss. Meanwhile, the Sabres finished two points back of the Rangers and held that tiebreaker, so they move into a winning spot with one additional regulation win. That gives us plenty of games to choose from, but it’s always fun to try to change two results with one game, and we get a chance to do that here.
We’ll head back to Nov. 30, as the Sabres visit the Panthers in Florida. The night before had seen Buffalo’s 10-game win streak come to an end at the hands of the Lightning, so you could expect a bit of a letdown for a tired road team on short rest. And indeed, the Panthers largely dominated the game, outshooting Buffalo 43-24. But Linus Ullmark stood on his head, and the Sabres held a 2-1 lead late in the third. That’s when Casey Nelson took a high-sticking penalty, and the Panthers converted on the power play to tie the game and send it to overtime, where Aleksander Barkov would win it.
If the Sabres manage to hold onto their lead, they win in regulation and end up finishing 26th and winning the second-overall pick, while the Panthers drop down to 20th and pick third. Two teams, two high picks, both gone because of one game.
Keep your sticks down, kids.

VENGEANCE IS MINE.....SAITH THE LORD
Mueller’s report came out friday afternoon. Barr’s report based on it sunday afternoon. Took Barr only 48 hours to consume and write his 4 page report to Congress.
Whatever.
I am uncomfortable. Uncomfortable with the way Justice seems to be working in this matter. Not just the speed of Barr’s report.
Justice in the U.S. has been on a downward trend the past 20 years. It has become increasingly politicized. In the past 4 years more so. In the past 2, especially.
Not the way the Founding Fathers intended.
The investigation of Trump has been the most serious of any President in the history of the U.S. Makes Nixon, Iran-Contra, and Clinton look like kid stuff. More information required. Information provided the public. Mueller’s report itself.
Called transparency. The people have a right to know.
Vengeance is mine…..saith the Lord. Romans 12:19.
I fear Trump will embark on a crusade of vengeance. It is the nature of the man. He believes himself to be God like.
The wrong tact. He should sit back and be happy he escaped what could have been a most disastrous situation. He beat the rap, so to speak.
Won’t happen. His call.
The result of the investigation a clear victory for him. To this point. The last chapter has not yet been written.
To the pleasant things in life. Good company and food last night.
Dinner at Donna and Terri’s. Barb with us. Stone crabs. Sooooo good!
You can understand my description only if you have had them.
Later today busy for me. Finally going to buy some new clothes. Sport shirts. Then to Dueling Bartenders. Followed by dinner at La Trattoria.
Key West house prices have gone crazy again. A 10 year high has been reported for 2018. The average sale price $675, 303.
The prices will drop. Nothing is forever. It will be like 2008. The prices will fall dramatically. Many will say…..I should have sold!
I shared the Manual Cabeza story with you yesterday. The final services he did not receive in 1921 were held yesterday at the Key West Cemetery. Twenty two of his descendants were located and came to Key West to attend the event. The Key West Police provided the honor guard. Many dignitaries and residents in attendance.
This morning’s Key West Citizen in its History Section has a photo of Herbert Hoover. A picture of Hoover fishing in the Keys.
Hoover annually visited the Keys. An avid fisherman. Generally stayed in the Key Largo area. Occasionally came as far south as Islamorada and Key West to enjoy the sport.
The interesting thing about Hoover’s fishing trips was the way he dressed. Always the same. Whether in a row boat or larger vessel, he wore a suit with shirt and tie or a sports jacket, slacks, with shirt and tie. Rarely did he remove the jacket. It had to be extremely warm for him to do so.
On this day in 1959, Sugar Ray Robinson defeated Carmen Basilio to recover the Middleweight Championship Belt. Basilio had defeated Robinson in their previous match.
It was the fifth and last title Robinson would win.
My story is not about Robinson. It concerns Carmen Basilio.
Basilio was born, raised and spent a good portion of his life in Canastota, N.Y. Canastota 30 miles from my hometown Utica.
Canastota is known as the onion capital of the world. Basilio was referred to in boxing circles as the upstate onion farmer.
In his later year, Basilio served as Physical Director at Le Moyne College in Syracuse.
Winning the middleweight title a major event in Basilio’s life. He enjoyed 2 more events.
He was influential in having the International Boxing Hall of Fame built in Canastota. Today, the Boxing Hall of Fame a major tourist attraction.
Basilio was elected to the Hall of Fame in his later years.
Basilio’s nephew was Billy Backus. Backus followed in his uncle’s foot steps. He became Welterweight Champion of the World. Basilio worked closely with Backus. Basilio claims his nephew winning he title excited him more than when he became middleweight champion.
Trump’s “friend” Putin continues to push him in Venezuela. Yesterday, 2 Russian planes landed at the Caracas airport. One hundred Russian troops departed and apparently will remain.
Putin’s message to Trump clear: Do not invade Venezuela.
Powerball gets bigger and bigger. No one has won this one yet. The next drawing wednesday. $750 million.
A tidy sum.
I normally do not buy lottery tickets. I will for this one. Who knows!
Enjoy your day!

What is Irish Lottery?
The Irish National Lottery is the state lottery of Republic of Ireland. Irish Lotto was first drawn in April 1988 and has distributed thousands of multimillion-Euro prizes to lucky players. Along with other games offered by the Irish National Lottery, Irish Lotto has raised much-needed funds for projects related to health and welfare, youth initiatives, culture and national heritage, sport, the arts and the Irish language within the Republic.

Irish Lotto Draw
The Irish Lotto is drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when six main numbers and a Bonus Ball are dispensed in the main game. There are two additional draws, Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2, which players can enter with the same set of numbers that they have chosen for Irish Lotto itself. It costs an extra €1 to play both draws, but they offer top prizes of €500,000 and €250,000 respectively.
Irish Lottery Odds of Winning
In order to play Irish Lotto you must pick six numbers from a choice of 47. Prizes are awarded for matching anything from two main numbers and the Bonus Ball upwards, with the jackpot being won by anyone who matches all six main numbers. Players who match three, four or five balls can increase the value of any prize they might win if they also match the Bonus Ball, which is drawn after the first six numbers.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 10,737,573, which makes Irish Lotto very popular with players around the world as the chances of claiming the top prize are much more promising than many other big money lotteries. There is a full breakdown of the prize fund and the odds of winning within each prize tier at the Irish Lotto Prizes page.
This table shows the full breakdown of the chances of winning in each of the eight tiers:
Number Matched Prize Odds of Winning 6 main numbers Jackpot (minimum of €2 million) 1 in 10,737,573 5 main numbers + Bonus Ball Average of €100,000 (value dependent on size of prize pool and number of winners) 1 in 1,789,596 5 main numbers Prize value dependent on size of prize pool and number of winners 1 in 44,740 4 main numbers + Bonus Ball Prize value dependent on size of prize pool and number of winners 1 in 17,896 4 main numbers Prize dependent on size of prize pool and number of winners 1 in 1 in 918 3 main numbers + Bonus Ball Prize value dependent on size of prize pool and number of winners 1 in 688 3 main numbers Average of €9 (value dependent on size of prize pool and number of winners) 1 in 54 2 main numbers + Bonus Ball €3 Scratchcard 1 in 72
Playing Lotto Plus 1, Lotto Plus 2 and Lotto Plus Raffle in addition to Irish Lotto shortens your odds of winning prizes and you can find out more at the pages dedicated to these supplementary games.
Irish Lotto Prizes
The Irish Lotto jackpots start at €2 million and grow quickly thanks to rollovers, regularly passing the €5 million mark. Players are required to match six numbers from a choice of 47 in order to claim the top prize, meaning the game has very favourable odds of winning the jackpot when compared with other major lotteries.
