This all started as a joke talking about THANOS Muffin and sorta escalated/derailed into just sorta assigning OSC characters as a whole to the DSMP characters.

My gc and I had no real idea what we were doing, and this is honestly just for shits and giggles, lol. Everyone was assigned on dynamics and vibes instead of being logical. PLEASE DON'T BULLY ME FOR MY SPELLING, IT WAS SUPER LATE AT NIGHT WHEN I DID THIS.

The culprits: @always-just-down-the-street and @friiskuz (the main two), @mambari, and @glitchtypes

(Also keep in mind that I have never watched a full stream of the DSMP, I only watched certain content creators outside of the server. I barely had any say in this so don't blame me if you don't like iiiiitttt.)

Specifics under the cut:

Firey from BFDI is Tommyinnit. This was decided because of his main characterness, him being one of the most important characters in OSC history, and his mildly chaotic nature.

Leafy from BFDI is Tubbo. This was decided because of Firey being Tommy. Also, because I find the ship between Tubbo and Ranboo cute and this universe's equivalents really funny to pair up.

Taco from II is Wilbur Soot. This was decided because of the betrayal stuff, the violence and manipulation, and because we thought it would be fun.

Top Hat from TNM is Ranboo. This was decided because of vibes, trauma maybe(?), and some other stuff that my friend said. Also, something about hallucinating probably and just being in a general sense of not okayness.

Muffin from THANOS is BadBoyHalo. This was decided because this is litterally BBH. He is literally based on BBH clips from his videos cropped together to make a character. He started this whole thing.

"Blood" Diamond (although their built like Aquamarine) from BFDI (ABCDEFG) is Skeppy. This was decided because Skeppy's skin is literally a diamond. They're a "blood diamond" because of the egg arc, and they are probably a brother instead of sister since that short isn't really canon to anything. They're a blank slate, we can do what we want.

Oodle from AIB is Slimecicle. This was decided because of his omnipotent god powers (immortality) and just being a silly goofy guy in general. We considered Goo for a bit, but Goo's a little too young to have been around since the dawn of the server. Maybe before becoming Oodle he was Goo? Idk.

X from BFB is GerogeNotFound. This was decided because of who we made Dream XD. That's really it (they might have also had some weird romantic stuff happening in the stream before???).

Four from BFB is Dream XD. This was decided because of the revival aspect of Four's power and also their scary and overall powerful nature. The rainbows are because of Infinity being a rainbow in canon.

i’ll dump my actual opinion on ii here because im a bit too shy to post it on main

for starters, i’m gonna confess that im only staying in the ii fandom because of box (i like box nobody shoot me!!!!) and clover. i have made fanart of inanimate insanity but i’ve never been too engaged in the fandom to considered myself to be like. a big fan.

(also the fandom is a chaotic mess sometimes and i don’t want to get too near it)

honestly i only began to watch inanimate insanity (i think around when it was halfway through season three) because i saw it as this big crazy object show that wasn’t BFDI at the time, and i kind of felt like if i didn’t watch it i would feel just a bit disconnected from the object show community.

i was never really exposed to that much criticism it has at the time because everyone was mostly either obsessing about the characters and their ships.

but in light of recent events i do believe the series sucks. i wish the movie was handled better as the ending did feel a just a teeensy bit odd to me, but im probably asking for too much because like. this show was written by three guys who unironically use AJR’s music in promotional ii content LOL

and i think it’s a worse that i’ve kind of just been lying to most people saying some stuff like “inanimate insanity ruined me!” or “inanimate insanity is peak” because i know it definitely isn’t. there are SO many things wrong with it to the point where i think it should have stayed as a web-series rather than have a full-blown film be made out of it.

until now i always felt like there was something off a little with ii and felt pretty uninterested with all the side-plots it had (fantube egg situation, the season three nickel and balloon thing, etc.) but at the time no one ever pointed anything bad out so i was just left to believe that like. hmm. Not all shows can be bangers!

whenever i talk about ii to other object show fans i talk about it positively, never in a negative light— i believe the show is mostly seen as good just because it’s one of the “serious” object shows that focuses more on characters and their dynamics and whatnot

but i fear that if i talk about inanimate insanity negatively with all that i’ve been made aware of recently (by both this account and some specific posts on twitter), i’ll be slammed in the face with “it’s just a kid’s show” or look like that one friend who’s too woke image.

it sucks even MORE because i like the plot concept of ocs coming to life and having to deal with the fact that their traumas, personalities, and lives are all just projections of their creator but i think inanimate insanity just executed it poorly.

so i think its just another recurring scenario where i inevitably have to steal the characters from the media they’re in and treat them like my ocs because the original media they come from is shit. (that’s what i usually do at least, i don’t know if anyone else also does this or if im just really Weird)

TL;DR. I don’t really like inanimate insanity because of the flaws in it that are usually ignored in favor for content of characters and ships (if that even makes sense)

I’m scared of saying i don’t like it because it has a mostly positive reputation in the osc, but i will be taking box and clover with me because i think they could have had so much potential.

time to tackle this big ass review. uhhhhhh welcome to the BFDIA 17/TPOT 15 review!

as noted, Spoilers Ahead!

so hhhhh lets start off with BFDIA 17. Personally, I think that this was the weaker of the two episodes, but!! and this is a very huge massive but!! That doesn't mean it was bad because hooooollly shit. As much as a Time Travel episode/episodes was a guarantee, I was NOT expecting it to be this well done.

Needle, the absolute Icon she is, starts off this episode with some awesome skills. She is running from Evil Leafy, she is amazing! and she is part of a bike now. Yet another brilliant 3d section.

I'm incredibly glad the lol-ers are gone. Ballooney did get annoying last episode tbh. Also the Spongey hate game is commendable. Also incredibly glad the other eliminated contestants are here to host now. Although, and this is a big although, I wish theyd stick to one host. I do like seeing Golf Ball again.

Fumigation made me laugh, GET THEM OUT OF THERE!!! THEY ARE PESTS!!!

I'm glad Pencil got the boot. She deserved it. Put her back in that classroom/j

SHOCKED THAT NEEDLE DIDN'T GET OUT BUT LIKE- ICON THAT SHE IS LETS GO. SHE WAS UP FOR ELIMINATION TWICE, FUCKING TWICE, AND SHE WAS SAFE. Honestly she's my pick to win BFDIA.

I'm glad she didn't stay with doing the two team thing. You go with Fries, girlie. FrieSmart forever.

incredibly based challenge btw. I really like the concept tbh.

Also shout out to Big Block.

I adore Book's storyline in this, probably more than any other in this episode. Ultimate Fetch Quest. With great cameos btw!!! Although I think Mirror and Spool are my favourites.

Nickel and TB had a fun storyline with the time travel stuff. I like the explanation to what Donut and Bottle were discussing in BFB 1.

The weakest one was probably Coiny and Pin's and Needle and Fries. Although I do like Fries calling Evil Leafy "EL". Besties to me... also a little Toxic of a team... love them lots...

As much as I dislike Coiny and Pin, ik with their popularity, I think one of them might win. I still want Needle to win, or Nickel! I think Nickel deserves a win.

Overall a little more boring than TPOT but there are moments I enjoy. I suppose we're getting the return of Leafy but idk, I've never cared for Leafy.

I honestly cant wait to see how this storyline plays out. I adore that Two has their favourite contestant and keeps her around. like- sorry they're so besties to me.

ALSO THE CONFIRMATION OF TWO'S TEXTURE!!! EVERONE CHEERED!!! THANK YOU LIY!!!! Papery motherfucker/affectionate. Honestly my one question I had if I go to the meetup this year would have been what Two's texture was, mayhaps I can ask about One's or smth...

anywho! Cake at Stake was... far too chaotic for my liking. I know it was to set up the "Something is wrong here" but like- I just- I don't get it. On my initial watch I could barely keep track of what was going on. As much as I didn't really like Black Hole for most of BFDI, I think he really stuck out this episode. He was the best straight man he could be, he played it well.

also FUCKING BASKETBALL AND ROBOT FLOWER GETTING THE BOOT?????? WHAT????? HOW DARE US????

That begs the question, What happens to Basketball with One? Is the contract revoked? Does she get special treatment? What happens??????????

The appearances from Three were interesting. They do exist! But who are they? What do they want? Many questions....

also VR HEADSET!!! PLAYED BY JACKSFILMS!!!! Tbh I really enjoy Jacksfilms content. I'll like- binge his videos every few months. Its a good time. I kinda hope we see more of Vr Headset.

Onto the challenge. Might I say, incredibly fun challenge! The use of the yoyleite, despite it being obvious, was still fun to see. I liked how it was done.

One stand out part was Shoppy Cart. She was the only one remorseful. Only one with any guilt. She's willing to go back, and didn't need to die. I think that makes me like her a lot more tbh.

I feel like it got to a lull midway where it felt a little repetitive. While it had its moments there still, it just felt like Get Contestant, Kill Them, Cause a Fuckton of Damage, Leave. Although my two standouts were Liy ofcofc being her girlbossiest self and finally getting her fully flipped power boost, and the section with Boom Mic. ALSO THE FANNY AND BUBBLE TRUTHERS REJOICE! Even if you don't ship them, honestly their platonic friendship is something I could make an essay on.

The ending, oooohhhh the ending. Pencil's crash out... As much as I dislike Pencil, I kinda felt for her in that moment. Good for her. GB also getting a beautiful spotlight again... you go girl.

AND THAT MOMENT OF "its too late... we've caused too much damage..." I WANTED TO CRY... I HAD TEARS. THE. THE LITTLE GROUPINGS... SNOWBALL AND GRASSY... DEATH PACT... THEY FINALLY BROUGHT PIN INTO THE GROUP HUG........ ICE CUBE FORGIVING BOOK FOR THE END OF THE WORLD... EVEN JUST FOR A SECOND.... TENNIS BALL AND TV HAD TO FACE THE END ALONE... TB WAS SEPERATED FROM GOLF BALL... IMAGINE HOW THEY FELT...

So you can watch most, if not all, object shows on youtube! a good starter is bfdi (season 1 is a little goofy but it was written by twelve year olds)

BFDI is the starter for all object show fans! It's silly and lighthearted while still taking itself seriously in later seasons

The one currently on my brain is Inanimate Insanity, but season one is BAD. It was written by twelve year olds too but Mean ones. If you wanna watch season one feel free but if you wanna skip it dm me/send another ask and I'll just tell you what important/plot relevant stuff happens in it.

Watch it in the order the playlist has it, yes season 3 starts during season 2 and you should go watch all of it before finishing season 2.

Despite season 1 it actually gets REALLY serious around episode.. 10? Of season 2

I'll also throw in the comic Objectified! It's pretty gory and scary if you're into horror and awesome world building

Remember that BFDI and ii have lots of bonus content! Any videos on the creator's (jacknjellify for bfdi and animationepic for ii) channel usually are silly and fully animated, like subscriber milestones and plushie announcements

1. For the D4DJ tips on beginners, I can't really explain, but there are these things called stories. You just have to know about the characters and the units themselves.

For other rhythm games I like, I used to like Friday Night Funkin' until the fucking fandom and those mukbang videos ruined it for me. But right know I currently like Pop'n Music too, even tho I don't play it, I really want to tho, I like Parrapa the Rapper too. I'm not really into the rest of idol games, besides D4DJ, however, I used to like Love Live! Tho, until I lost interest in it

For my interests, AAA THANK YOU SO MUCH!!, I'm currently getting into Zoog Disney, I'm mean like the characters not the content they produce

Hi!!! Okay so. Well. The overarching name for aaall this nonsense is the Object Show Community, or OSC. At least, that's what I've gathered. Tesla specifically is @ecto-hazard's OC for an object /camp/ called RIP- Rune's Immature Party. If you haven't caught on already, acronyms are Kind Of A Thing. If you want to look into Tesla stuff specifically, here's a link to Grey's post with the master doc! They're comics and you should totally read them I'm not biased at all. So the actual meat of all this object stuff is, as the name suggests, the object shows, most of which are on youtube. The main two(? I think?) are Inanimate Insanity and Battle For Dream Island, but there are like, over 500 or something of them all over the place. It's a Huge Thing. Those two start off preeetty goofy but the most recent seasons are really cool stuff in my opinion.

Oh and, to give you a little bit of context, the basic like. 'structure' of an object show is like you know those reality TV competition shows where there's a set cast that gets whittled down through some sort of voting system. like survivor. its like that but with object characters.

In case you want to watch some, here's a list of the shows I've watched so far that I liked:

Battle For Dream Island [BFDI] by jacknjellify - The Original. the one that sparked all this nonsense. at least. to my knowledge. there are uh. 5 seasons now i think? it's a lot. it's so much. it's hours and hours of content. the first one was made when the two creators were like 10 or something so keep that in mind but it just gets better from there Inanimate Insanity [II] by AnimationEpic - tbh probably the most popular one right now??? at least from what i've seen. it's season 1 is even worse than BFDI's season 1 but it's current seasons... holy FUCK. HOLY /SHIT/. OH MY GODDD. also canon nonbinary character (tho a lot of the rest of its representation attempts are. not so great) Animated Inanimate Battle [AIB] by GatlingGroink57 - goofy funny but with a really good grasp on characters. Has like. 60 characters but each one managed to be memorable??? one of my favorites i love oodle SO MUCH ONE, or as it's often called, 'HfjONE' by Cheesy Hfj - very much NOT goofy funny. first show I watched. A very interesting (and upsetting) take on the expected format of an object show. its kind of hilarious this was my first one in retrospect it is not your usual object show Paper Puppets Take 2 [PPT2] by YellowAngiru - sooo fun and cool and creative... each episode has it's own unique intro + theme and there are some spooky plot things and drama and it's fun Sacriverse by Sacri - if you wanna watch this one you should use this playlist, this one is like. goofy funny but also analog horror and it's spread out along a bunch of videos and??? watching this playlist was an. experience. also it has HAPPY STAAAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a bunch more in a list I haven't watched yet and also a bunch more I likely haven't even heard of so this list is nowhere near end all be all. There's so much. There is. sooo much. god.

Why is Nearly Every Object Show Flash-Animated?

(warning: a big, gigantic ramble generated by the mind of a comic artist)

I’m asking this question because I was bitten by the “Object Show” bug myself! It’s become a niche but easily replicated genre of its own within the animation community. Starting with the eponymous Battle For Dream Island (a show I think we’re all familiar with), we’ve seen many creators follow suit in the seemingly simple formula of having a bunch of inanimate objects participate in a game show-esque competition.

This is not to claim that Object Shows are unoriginal or overdone at this point: on the contrary. With the advent of resources for learning writing, animation, et cetera, I feel there’s a massive amount of potential that this community has, until now, mostly neglected. Battle for BFDI is, from what I can tell, reveling in its own, unique premise in the way it wants to. Inanimate Insanity’s second season has, as of late, recognized its potential to communicate a story about change and growth within individuals and the world around it. Unfortunately, I haven’t watched many shows, but I feel I’ve gotten my point across.

In another post, I asked about shows that didn’t use Flash, so i’m going to be responding to those before I embark on my tangent.

that’s a common thread i’ve been finding!! one of the earliest object shows, Animation Island by legotd61, was created a year after BFDI—and at the time, legotd61 was 7 years old. granted the animation & visuals aren’t the most jaw-dropping thing in the world, but they were a kid so it’s automatically charming. in like, a kid sense.

@demi-gray suggested Modern Objects as a non-asset-using show!

Unfortunately, it still relies on assets for arguably the most important visuals: the characters! They do use the capabilities of Flash more extensively than other shows (that I know of), which makes watching the characters do their thing a lot more fun and engaging. The unique style compared to other shows definitely helps out a lot as well!

Speaking of planning, the thing that enchants and haunts me most about object shows is how much is going on behind the scenes. This is for any animated show, really, because as a bitty comic artist, I had no clue where to begin. I’ve started to draft and worldbuild for my own show, but I can’t help but wonder how much of it is done for other object shows.

The medium, by default, demands attention on the characters at the forefront. The premise generates interest, the aesthetics (aren’t necessary but) lead viewers in, and the subject(s) of the show is what keeps audiences engaged. No matter what the creator(s) choose as the subject, they must make sure it’s polished to their best abilities, while ensuring other elements of their medium is properly balanced.

If you’re creating a character-driven narrative, for example, you’ll want to focus on the development of your characters. And, since it’s easiest to relate to concrete characters, that’s what novice content creators focus on developing as their content’s primary subject (and what professional content creators master).

However, the development of, say, a character is more often than not put into the hands of the viewers. How? Viewer participation: having the audience vote off who leaves a competition.

An interesting concept as, typically, animated shows require oodles of planning in order to convey the story it wants to the best of its ability. This makes the typical object show a challenge (forgive the word-play) to pull off properly, despite being deceptively simple enough of a feat on the surface. Character development can be volatile, as any character can be booted off (depending on how well you can predict a character getting eliminated).

Following this, the difficulty of creating a cohesive and well-written story through the Object Show format is very, very high. After all, you need to place time in your resources as wisely as possible, in order to avoid taking too much time on an end product you may not even like a little while later. The elimination of one character may upset a part or the entirety of the show’s plotline, if a creator is not careful.

Inanimate Insanity’s writing was able to excel at its greatest the moment viewer voting was dropped. One of the best shows in this genre (in my opinion), Modern Objects, isn’t even an object show: it’s formatted like a sitcom, and focuses primarily on characters and comedy. The one object show I was able to find that was primarily frame-by-frame animation (thank you, @bfb-basard!), Race to the Mansion of Tomorrow, is 100% script-driven; meaning, no viewer participation. This is the same for a few other shows as well, though I am not aware of them at this point of time.

So why Flash? The answer is because it’s just easier. Not in the sense that the animators of these shows are lazier, but because animating in Flash saves time. Unless you’re putting all your stops into your show, or the contestants will always be present / aren’t quite as important to the narrative, you absolutely cannot afford to waste time and energy on things that can get thrown away later. Either that, or you don’t know where a character or a plotline or what have you will build up to, so you want to make sure whatever you do make isn’t wasted.

(Granted, I always feel there’s always time for weird plots to be resolved until it’s the very end, but retcons are also an option?)

You see this video? It’s a pretty simple animation of just a little softball walking around.

It took me 2 or 3 hours, give or take, to finish. Nearly every frame is unique, and I drew them all with my hands and my tablet, nothing else. All moving parts are either animated in 2′s or 1′s—the latter of which being 1/24th of a second. There are 35 drawn frames overall, stretched out onto 127 individual frames that constitute the entirety of the animation.

In other words, this clip is 5 seconds long.

If you want to finish an object show within your lifetime, let alone within 5 years, then Flash will be your best friend. It’s good, revolutionary technology that will make your life easier. With Flash, you don’t have to draw things over and over and focus instead on the motion, not the artwork.

Not only that, but being able to finish in a timely manner will help smaller content creators as, since we’re small and have small audiences, not everyone has a long enough attention span to hang onto you for decades. Certain shows like BFB and Inanimate Insanity have the advantage of popularity, so they can take their time with both the show and life (but they’re still rushed by their audience anyways so it’s a double-edged sword).

If you want to tell a story, consider what medium you tell it through wisely. Animation isn’t the only way, but I know for a fact that, if I get there, my show will be frame-by-frame. Why? Because I consider the artwork and the motion in my story just as important as my characters, if not moreso. You might not.

You can make it 3-d animated, claymation, traditionally animated, digitally animated, Flash, frame-by-frame, what have you. You can write your show as a novel, a script, a screenplay, a radio play, what have you. You can illustrate it as a children’s book, a comic, a graphic novel, or even an illustrated novel.

One of my favorite shows, up there with Modern Objects, is a comic by @swabsbloo​ called Escape From Abject Reality (which you can read on it’s own blog at @efarwebcomic​! Please read it! PLEASE READ IT! PLEASE!!! PL). Swabsbloo takes the premise of object shows and simultaneously puts it on its head while playing it straight: a bunch of objects wake up in an oddly absent field, only to figure out they’ve been trapped in a game show-themed death trap controlled (...?) by a(n apparent) sociopath named Snake Oil. You should read it. You should read their comic.

Hell, does your object show even need to be an object show? You can create stories that are beyond inanimate objects, or stories beyond competitions. Again, Modern Objects isn’t a competition show. You can base your characters off of objects as well, without needing to make them explicitly an object. The show I mentioned earlier, Race to the Mansion of Tomorrow, takes this latter approach for the most part!

As a storyteller, what I obsess about the most is storytelling. I love seeing all forms of it, and the potential that this community’s genre has astounds and fascinates me. The way in which we view the story doesn’t have to be important, but I find the ones I enjoy the most are the ones that utilize its medium to the best of its ability. It doesn’t have to be the best, it just needs to try.

I will unironically ship cross-show host ships. Not just the ones from the smile crossover, things like AirCorn too where they've never met and have no chance of meeting.

People take issue with literally any ship Airy is in within his own show, which to some extent, I get. But I'm not saying I support actual irl relationships like any Airy x contestant ship, I literally ship BatJokes for God's sake. Having a host x host ship is good because usually their crimes are somewhat on level footing (even though most are treated like jokes), WHICH SIDE TANGENT HERE, I hhhhate people who will call me weird for trying to have a discussion about some of the character's immoral actions from less serious shows. Airy hfjONE for kidnapping and manslaughter is treated so much worse than Popcorn for SPREADING INFECTIOUS DISEASES. Just let me suspend disbelief a bit, ok. Yeah, so anyways, I think AirCorn is good bc Airy to some extent doesn't understand the severity of his crimes, whereas Popcorn does and would commit those crimes again.

I'm a sucker for the other host x host dynamics, too, and I just think we're so lucky to have gotten any crossover content we did, canon or not. TwoPhone has been fed?? I no joke started shipping AnimatiClock like three days before sacri uploaded the crossover, and I had no idea.

I'm trying to think of something else worthy of confession here, but I've already confessed a lot in different sessions, and this isn't an NSFW blog.

I still refuse to watch BFDI and affiliated shows, and I will say I find the writing utterly disgusting in the most literal sense. Gross-out humor is for children, but so is most of the stuff JnJ makes. I just think they could respect their audience's intelligence more. Even kids want well written humor in some ways, and I personally think object shows would do best as 'all ages' media that respect their audience. But JnJ makes so much money that I don't think it matters to them. Side note, I watched a livestream of theirs recently, and they seemed very tired. I could be reading into it, but seeing your audience is only children and that they've been doing this for over a decade, I wouldn't be surprised if they quit sometime soon and leave TPOT etc to be produced without them. I don't know if they have already or if they've talked about it, I don't plan to watch anything else from them, save for the specials with algebraliens in them. Needless to say, I won't keep track of it, and the only reason I'm not an outright JnJ hater is because of how close they work with AnimationEpic and the xfohv content. Other than that, grr.
