Adding Tension After the Ship Happens

i feel a lot of slow burn ships lose steam after the characters finally get together, whether it's just from sleeping together or them actually engaging in a relationship, so here are some ideas for how to maintain steam.

their problems are not solved now that they've crossed the thresh hold

first things first, the plot itself i'm sure has other details than just their relationship. even the most fluffy of fluff has other things going on than kisses and giggles. don't abandon these details once the relationship truly begins. and if there was any kind of unresolved tension point or previously mentioned ex/trauma/insecurity/fear bring it back! bring things back around that might put a strain on a new, tender relationship. this can either make them have problems or be a way to develop their bonds and *show* it in action. any of these foreshadowing/resurrected points can be added in edits if you didn't start out with them or with retconning if you're writing rp/fanfic. all the writers do it. we see it in tv everyday it's ok if u gotta pull a rabbit from a hat.

their relationship will not be suddenly smooth and solid as if they have been married 20 years

okay they kissed/fucked/agreed to be together. now what? what circumstances kept them from getting there sooner? are those circumstances still present and how will they deal with it as a team? you also don't have to have characters officially together once they've done something physical. there is still discussion to be had and boundaries/expectations to establish. those conversations could be interesting to explore. and, even more-so, this is the perfect point for plot to happen and keep them from being able to have those conversations when they should. you can add angst, you can add miscommunication, you can add anything that tickles your fancy. especially a perfect time to have an ex return to cause some tension and uncertainty if they haven't made it official. they don't know what they are yet and that uncertainty is a delicious point to write it and really give the characters a hard time

utilize the main plot's tension

again, if you're writing more than just a contemporary fluffy romance, the romance should enrich the main plot. the romance as a subplot should be a component which merges with the main storyline and does not take away from it. if you don't want to milk the will-they-won't-they anymore than you already have it's time to build the relationship up in the midst of OUTSIDE conflict. let them disagree about how to resolve problems. let them butt heads. let them be scared and do and say stupid shit because they're scared. let them be worried or angry or frustrated and have to figure out how to balance their newfound vulnerability with who they are and were before that point. let them hurt each other a little so they can come back together stronger.

utilize the characters around them

if it is a plot which is mainly romance filled, then think about the tension from the lives around them. think about their loved ones and how their own issues could influence the plot points the characters have to face together. this could be a time for them to be introduced to loved ones. you could throw in a group trip with silly mishaps and shenanigans. you could even have loved ones try to break them up or doubt the love interest. navigating new relationships while also dealing with friends and family can be a source of plot and tension in and of itself. this can be a point to let love interests reassure each other and prove their salt. it can help them grow closer. it can be the heroic moment for one of them to stick up for the other or prove they're there for them no matter what.

overall if you're struggling with what to do after the slow burn feels like it's sizzling out it's time to zoom out. make sure you are not losing the whole picture of their environment or steamrolling past the real development of new relationships.

The main thing I have to say in regard to Vincent is… Lovely is stronger than I.

If I was an unempowered person who as far as I was aware had no clue magic exists, and some guy who is really trying to convince me he is a vampire all while being absurdly forward in his flirting. No. Absolutely not. I would vomit out of cringe.

MUCH LESS IF HE BROKE INTO MY HOUSE?!?! No. Nuh uh. Crying, sobbing, breaking down in front of him, and moving out of the country.

But let’s put the crazy plot aside and focus on Vincent as a character because I don’t think any sane person in reality life would be cool with everything lovely was lmao.

But even if we just focus on him as a character and we met in a normal way, I don’t think me and Vincent would be compatible in any way. His flirty kind of persona that he put on was very over the top, and I feel like if this were real life I would absolutely see through it, and I truly hate when people try to get close to me to gain something. So that would put me off immediately of Vincent in real life.

Also as a vampire enthusiast I would pick apart his character.

Totally just “oh right, so you’re a vampire so you act all seductive and flirty because vampire historical represented societal fears of sexuality? Oh no, no I get it. I mean you could have like chosen to broke the mold a little but don’t mess with it if it’s not broken I guess 😒” (hoooo boy this is also related to a side rant I want to post eventually)

Now of course Vincent goes through character growth with this, but this rant is under the assumption that I am in the position of Lovely. I could not possibly nor would I realistically try to inspire that kind of change in him.

Even if Vincent came to that change himself later down the road, I feel like the way Vincent is post-lovely (and this is just vibes) would like to keep his personal circles more closed. He wouldn’t be super interested in interacting with the people outside of his little circle, and I wouldn’t have an easy time getting close to him then regardless.

So yeah. Me and Vincent probably wouldn’t work in real life. Sorry Vinny :(

Hello! My name is Entity, 22, he/they and am searching for an rp partner to play a brand new 20+ dead dove 🕊️ mxm oc plot with me! It’s kinda specific, and a bit out there but hopefully the concept grabs the attention of a few people!

Character A is a priest in a small town, belonging to one of the most well known churches in the area. Kind to the public, wise, charitable, even charismatic. One day like usua, after mass, he’s listening to confessions in the confessional booth. There were a few young kids doing their first confessions, older folk, some new, some local, it all was a routine that the priest had gotten used to.

By the end of the day, the priest was tired and ready to get home himself. But there was one last person waiting to confess. Through the screen window, they both could only see a silhouette.

Character B is a serial killer, and he was in the confessional admitting to his first murder.

It becomes routine. Once after a great while, Character B returns to the church and confesses to a new murder. And as a priest, anything that is said in the confessional cannot be spoken again. He has no idea who this murderer is, nor if he even stays for the masses. It’s like a game to Character B, and now Character A is trapped between his Godly duties and his ability to help man.

I know, it’s a kinda out there concept but I thought it would’ve been interesting!

Some important things and a few ideas:

• i imagine this plot to be in a modern setting, though I think a 80s setting would be really interesting too! I wouldn’t be opposed to some supernatural too if character B was a vampire or something along those lines 👀

• I don’t mind playing either as character A or character B, so you’re free to choose whichever speaks the most to you! :D

• I plan to make a whole new character for this rp, and think it would be really fun if my rp partner also came up with something new with me

Hello there! I’m looking to do a MxM rp with a new OC that I’ve made! He’s a dark witch, and I would love to do an rp with him that has the feeling of a Grimm brothers fairytale. Whimsical and dark at the same time if that makes sense. That means there’s the possibility of including 🕊️ themes in this, such as violence, gore, mentions of torture, things along that line. I’m looking for an 18+ partner who would be willing to reply multiple times a week. Between replies I love talking with my partner and sharing things like mood boards and Spotify playlists. 🎵

A little bit more about my character, he has a fairly aloof and sarcastic personality. It’s been a long time since he’s gotten close to anyone and he’s kind of forgotten how to interact with people. He doesn’t tone down his brutal honesty or macabre way of seeing things. He’s morally grey at his center, but ultimately isn’t a terrible person. He does have the capability to care for people and show that he cares, it just takes a lot to unlock that part of him. He would do anything to protect the people he does care about though. He had something taken from him a long time ago that he would do anything to get back, and he’s spent the last centuries of his life trying to find a way to restore what was lost.

I didn’t have a specific plot in mind, but the type of character he would be best against would be someone who isn’t too soft or submissive. He needs someone who can fight back a bit when he gets too morbid and cold towards people. A fire to his ice if you will. Perhaps your character is a witch hunter, or a poor soul who was cursed and tracked down the most powerful witch he could find to help him, we can figure out the details together! South Park Zombie Starter

I'll accept any canon character, only tentative on Cartman! I'd prefer no violence between our characters, at most a distrust that doesn't build into anything worse ideally.

This was a reply for a TLOU starter - initially Butters found his way to Stan's farm but for this it could be anywhere, or anyone taking shelter in Tegridy, etc. Ideally it would also be just a generic zombie plot as well!

The idea is this is several years after the outbreak Butters finally has to move on from where he'd been holed up and ends up falling into a pit trap near your character's base.

Putting the starter under a break for length and also because it has some language involved. Please don't feel obligated to match length! I just go a little overboard on starters sometimes. Just let me know where you'd like to set up the RP and we can jump into it!

Butters isn't kidding himself. He knows the only reason he's still alive after all this is pure fucking insane luck. He's not strong, he's not a fighter, he's not particularly smart in a way that might've been useful during times like these, he didn't live in a family of doomsday preppers, and he's crafty but nowhere near crafty enough to get by as well as he has up until now. Maybe the biggest boon had been just how small and out of the way the town was. Not a lot of attention from the rest of the world, and after the first wave of the outbreak, almost no one stuck around that would've drawn in that kind of attention. That didn't mean there hadn't been threats or close calls, but somehow, out of everyone else in town as far as he can tell, he must have the best luck in the damn world. That, or someone out there really likes him. Unfortunately, good luck doesn't keep the shelves stocked, and he'd gone as long as he could rationing what he had left, but he's on his last bag of shitty cheese snacks (the Last Resort for food options, but at least they were pumped so full of preservatives that they stayed edible years after expiring) and he needed to find a new source of food before his strength started to wane. He'd already picked the houses and shops as clean as he felt safe enough to do; unless he wanted to risk getting trapped in an unfamiliar cramped location with something trying to eat him, he figured it might be time to start wandering. Besides, he remembered there being a few patches of farmland near town anyway. Most likely there wouldn't be anything still growing, but grain usually lasted a while, right? The first farm he hit came up bupkis and the sounds coming from inside the buildings themselves were enough to get him to move right along. The next though... way more promising. The fact that it looked like it was still being maintained to a degree was a great start, but as much as he wants to believe in the good of humanity, Butters isn't ready to risk a fight without getting something fresh in his stomach first. He doesn't even get close. Traps hadn't even been a possibility in his head. Stupid. The fall knocks the wind and the sense from him, and a throbbing pain in his leg tells him it's at minimum sprained, but probably not broken. His shoulder and head hurt more; rebound must have knocked him a goose-egg to be proud of, but at least he wasn't face down and vulnerable. When a face pops over the edge of the pit, he scrambles for the hammer at his hip - a stupid weapon, close range and slow, but it was the only thing he felt confident wielding - but it must have slipped away in the fall. Thankfully those few seconds he grappled with the dirt and leaves for it were enough time to realize this wasn't a monster. But now he can't be fully sure he wasn't just seeing things after a knock on the head and after so long being alone. So he figures a greeting wouldn't hurt - either it's not real and he's just going to be weird by himself until his head stops spinning, or... Well. He lifts both hands and waves them in a jaunty little jiggle before weakly calling out, "Yuh-you got me!"

Reflection.

Why did you pick up writing? - I picked up writing around the same time I picked up drawing. It was just something I kinda always did on instinct, I gotta thank a lot my cousins for putting up with me being my first beta readers. But honestly it was mostly do I could make my own fun with my characters. Do you have any writing routines? - I fear I am a very in the moment writer. I've tried all my life to change it but if I'm not feeling it it's not coming. (Yes, I did suffer a lot writing my thesis how could you tell?) However, when I'm in the mood I only have two options, either I write a thesis and two books in one setting or I write one paragraph that satisfies the urge and call it a day. There's no in between. What's your favorite part about writing? - Character exploration. Love to put to words the gremlin's thoughts and explore the living hell out of everything they do, think, own, feel. Every little detail offers so much, a gesture, a pause, a glance, it's so telling I love it. And well, breaking them in too, I don't mean this in a literal sense, but more so, in putting them in challenges (good or bad) that put to test their foundations and see what comes of it. Let's get that inner development!!

Three things you like about your writing.

One. Oh man this isn't really something I think about? I just kind of go with what comes to mind at the moment. I guess I like the simplicity? I try to go for something that's easy to read through and get the gist mostly cause I know a lot of times my writing can come off weird by trying to put to words what makes sense grammatically in one language for another. Two. I'll be very honest I am coming at a blank here. Maybe the length? I know it's stupid to like lengthy replies but i'm a yapper by nature and I guess that also translates into writing which I don't mind at all. A lot of times I have to slap my wrist over length and erase a few paragraphs cause there's no need to offer that much info for something small, I wish I knew how to be short and concise but alas. Three. How direct it is? I could go and try to double read or rewrite stuff but honestly the less i think about it the better it comes off. So all my replies are first tries. I do sometimes put some previous structure to it so i remember what i wanted to go for but in the end, whatever comes out is what i was telling myself at the moment without thinking too much.

When life throws you lemons, and gets you down, does writing become something that you're drawn to as to get you through it, or do you feel like it does the opposite?

This heavily depends, I have used writing and rping to work through bad times before, it helped me as much as it damaged me but then again it's not like i had much choice back then. Nowadays I rather keep it at arms length. As much as I feel that it could help, this is supposed to be a hobby I enjoy, if i come with a spoiled mood to it, it'll ruin the fun. I will look at what I wrote and be reminded of what I was going through rather than whether I enjoyed it or not. Specially if I'm going through a very rough time, as it has happened before.

Tell me about your favourite roleplay experiences ! what was a thread that you really enjoyed ?

I don't know if anyone here knows what IScribble is but it was one of my first rp spaces where i rped both in writing and drawing. It was genuinely fun, met one of my irl best friends there and we kept rping through MSN with OCs. Despite the obvious cringe plots/ideas and very, very bad english, it was one of the most fun i have ever had rping where we started with two ocs and ended up crafting a whole entire community and lore surrounding them. And of course, ended up with a life-long friend.

Thread wise though, it has to be back on 2017/18 when i was rping in a Firefly themed closed rp group. Since it was closed, all our characters had to personally know each other and their stories merged together on the ship, during one of the events there were huge breakthroughs in a significant character relationship that still lives rent free in my head cause it was completely spontaneous. We had nothing planed except that they were acquainted from a mission before boarding the ship, all else that transpired was just pure back and forward jumping on the characters reactions to each other and it was -chefs kiss- We ended up having a lot of fun before the rp shut down and we all moved on with life (mel from hell if you're out there love ya! sol to my sid & jane to my petra)

when did you join ? what made you join ? what do you remember from the plotlines that were current at the time ? where were you in life when you joined and where are you now ?

i was in college! april 2018. but i was looking for something new to join. i liked the political aspect of the rp, it was still a pairs rp with the alliance system that seemed fun. i was in the middle of my political science major so i liked the idea of using what i was learning. also the main was very pretty. a lot of it was new to me, that's when we were all using icons and i didn't know what the heck small text was.

which characters have you written over the years ?

elyse, my little nightmare. she grew up with me it feels like. i was studying nationalism and populism in my undergrad degree and i wanted to play with those styles of politics. she's so screwed up but i love her. her insecurity and the way that makes her clings to her choices, even when they are clearly bad. i think we all do that sometimes, we fear something and the create the situation that we fear. honorable mention to my baby michael and my favorite villain domas/daisuke who would just plan fun.

probably my early ones, like early prussia. i learned so much in this half decade about writing, storytelling, and working in a group. i am entirely grateful to all of you for teaching me with kindness and love.

i'm not going to lie, i've had kalyse on my mind recently. but we had a whole thing with michael planned out and northern ireland which would have been fun. and we had some stuff planned for daisuke too that would have been interesting. also, if we had done it, you would have screamed at the mexico/cuba plot

Relationship Call!

I haven't done one of these for a character in a long while, but I figure it's a good way to figure out where to take Lucia in terms of RP!

Friends

I'll be honest: Lucia could really use more of these. People she can be herself with, talk to, and trust. She's very much relearning how to trust and feel safe, since Spirale has changed her personal game so much from what she'd been playing back at home. Unless someone catches her with her wings out, with a few exceptions, it will take a bit of time and talking before Lucia will feel secure enough to reveal her wings, ears, and the entire fact that she's a fairy. Eventually, anyone she considers a friend will probably know she's a fairy, especially if she reaches a point where she's no longer hiding the fact. Having more friends, and people she trusts in general, will push her closer to coming entirely out of hiding.

Family

Lucia's fathers died tragically in front of her eyes, the event traumatizing enough that she lost the memories soon after. She was raised by a man who forced her to hide she was a fairy from everyone, including his daughter Kirsi, whom Lucia regarded as a close friend, even a sister, and whom Lucia grew up beside and became her Lady in Waiting when Kirsi left to marry the king. All of this is to say, Lucia is no stranger to considering someone not necessarily blood-related to her a family member. Sometimes people click in a way that goes beyond friendship, and Lucia would benefit from having people like that in her life here.

Romance

In Isola, I plan to keep Lucia single-ship. The author has specifically stated that Lucia's sexuality is unlabeled. Although in canon, Lucia has a past weirdness with the mage Norrix, and is currently nursing a mutual crush with the enchanted suit of armor Modeus, I can absolutely be convinced to do a crossover ship for her. It would need to be discussed plotted out beforehand, and I'd ideally like to see some non-romantic interaction before jumping into anything, but regardless of a character's gender, I can see Lucia falling for someone new here!

Antagonistic/Enemies

I don't foresee a lot of this, mostly because I'm just not fond of writing a lot of enmity-toned relationships and interactions. However, for as kind and accepting of people as Lucia can be, she has a deep sense of justice, she's known to have a bitter side, and boy-howdy can she hold a grudge. If you wrong her or someone she cares about, she will remember it.

Other Ideas?

Just because I didn't name it here, doesn't mean we can't do it! There's a lot going on with Lucia, including things like wing-training, trauma from home and her childhood, magic-learning, combat-training... for goodness sake, the woman can't really see romantic feelings for what they are, whether they're her own or someone else's, and yet somehow she's flirting with an enchanted suit of armor. She's got layers, and if you feel like your muse will resonate with something she has going on, lmk!

One of the biggest mysteries of Homestuck 2 is who's narrating Candyland with Calliope gone, and the more narration-heavy style of the new team is really calling attention to that. This is very flanderized Jake English dialogue. Also a dramatically more active Jake English than we've seen all...ever?

Under no circumstances can you allow her to get to The Point.

Gonna have fun with that MacGuffin name, huh, writers? It occurs to me that Jake was supposedly a spy the whole time but this is the first indication that he's actually been telling the resistance anything instead of just calling himself a spy as a cope.

I like this art a lot. But also what the hell is Meenah doing here? Last time we saw her, in the epilogues, she was out in space and stole the Ring of Life from John before escaping into a server beacon. Did it lead her into the black hole (lmao get owned), or is this an alternate timeline ghosts? Are her eyes closed in order to drag out that reveal?

As fish puns go, "Prawnference calls" is excellent.

So, Meenah has her eyes closed to prevent me from knowing if this is the alpha version or a doomed ghost, and now she's dropping very vague hints about what the plot point is. This does feel very homestuck, in that it's teasing out the reveals to maximize speculation. Skaia is, of course, related to SBURB, and thus this is confirmation of the fandom assumption that they're going to start a new game, without actually saying much else.

I have no idea why this air vent is Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff style, but Vriska kicking the sound affect is still funny.

The comedy quotient has increased notably under the new team.

Wait, John doesn't know? I thought "Everyone 'knows' candyland is fake and that why they're acting so weird they're just LARPing" was kind of my headcanon for a lot of the weirder candy stuff.

I don't ship them or anything, but this John/Vriska dynamic where John is kind of the oblivious straight man to all this wacky nonsense is one that Homestuck has been very light on since Act 6.

miss ma'am is 29 and has no idea what she wants to do in life. she doesn't know shit about fuck. she's paralyzed by indecision and making the wrong choice so she just...doesn't do anything.

her power has helped her, at least, have a career that keeps her from being on the street or completely poor. without her job as a personal trainer she'd have nothing as she doesn't have a support system. her dad was an abusive alcoholic and her mom loved her and did her best but never got them out of the situation so as soon as jihye was able she disappeared into the wind.

if you knew her prior to her turning 20, when she was im nari, no you didn't. she doesn't acknowledge her past or who she used to be and if you call her nari, she'll gaslight you to hell and back.

she has the same power as her dad, which is its own can of worms that she's not addressing or getting help for.

she really did move into the apartment for a washer and dryer because she hates the laundry mat and would sooner yeet herself from a building then sit in one for hours again.

sis can't be serious for more than 20 consecutive seconds without panicking and making a joke or immediately disengaging. she doesn't do conflict.

she's been in the apartments for 4 years and is probably still a stranger to most because she sleeps weird hours and is always operating on gremlin time.

she's always eating junk and subsisting on cigarettes and energy drinks.

she's got a good heart but she's just constantly overwhelmed by everything and was never given good coping mechanisms. hoping we can find her someone in the rp that can help her move past her crippling indecisiveness and actually grow.

plot ideas:

obviously because I said she can't deal with anyone who knew her before she moved and changed her identity, we have to have that. maybe childhood best friends and your muse is like, "no, I definitely know you. you do the same thing with your lip she did." and it's just some tom and jerry tomfoolery until she breaks.

a love interest (m/f/nb/etc) that things seemed incredibly serious with until miss jihye blew it up and ditched. the thought of anything serious would terrify her and I'm sure the aftershock of her actions would be fun to rp. I love angst and drama and slow burn so pls give me this?!!

a new bestie. you see this weird chick who's existing on cigarettes and monster and you're 98% sure you've never seen her come in with groceries?? how is she even alive?? and your muse kind of takes it upon themselves to look after her, for whatever reason. at first jihye is skeptical but she comes to enjoy your muse's presence and before she knows it, she's gotten too close and has a new bestie she refuses to let go of.

okay listen. she's never cruel or mean outright, ever, but she is kind of oblivious and her inability to treat anything with the respect it deserves or requires could definitely rub someone the wrong way. I could definitely see someone in the apartments thinking she's thoughtless and rude because of her level of self involvement and not really being used to thinking of others.

her savior. your muse agreed she could use their washer and dryer, whether through constant badgering or the kindness of their heart. jihye brings snacks, booze, cigarettes-- whichever your muse prefers in payment. she's not good at being sociable but your muse can see she's really trying her best despite the awkwardness.

someone jihye flirts with constantly. she's good at smooth talking and chatting people up and is often very forward. your muse has caught her eye. we can plot whether things get more serious or it's just a playful back and forth or just jihye being a greaseball before it grows into a friendship or something else?

talk shop tuesday! incredible coincidence - i wanted to ask you more about your dnd OCs, and you posted a new art piece with one of them! continuing the theme: could you tell more about your dnd OCs and how they came to be?

Ohhhh you have opened Pandora's Box my friend!! I could talk about this topic all day.

Basically there's two parts to this: my approach to DnD in general, and in-depth explanations of the characters. I'm going to put this under a Read More to save everyone's Dash.

Part One: Dungeons and Dragons

So the thing I love most about DnD (and other TTRPGs) is that it's a collaborative game. I'm not responsible for the entirety of the story, I bring my character to the table and everyone else brings their characters and between us, the DM, and the dice, we figure out where the story is going. I enjoy it so much more than trying to come up with everything on my own. And I love that people can surprise me!! @mothmansbigfatass and @ahawkmet (my irl friends and in most of the campaigns I play) can attest, apparently I'm a lot of fun to watch during revelations because I always have a big reaction.

So when making a dnd character, it's important for me to know 1. What the world we'll be playing in is like, and 2. What everyone else is doing. Again, it's a collaborative game, so I want to make sure that I'm playing nice with the DM's world. AND often the setting itself will give me an idea (see Ethan: the game is set at a community college. What's a college stereotype that would be fun to play?). Ideally, the character I make would have a really hard time being plopped into a different campaign and have it still make sense. Secondly, it's more fun for me to play a class that will fill out the party. For example, if we already have a cleric, I don't also need to play a religious character. Those story beats are covered by someone else, I don't want to be competing with another person for cool moments.

Once those two things are settled, character creation is determined by what seems fun to play and what would be interesting aesthetically. I like to keep the backstory light to see what happens as we start playing, and then I can fill it in bit by bit later. Sometimes that bites me in the ass, though (see Ethan: I didn't give him birth parents and then they were incredibly important to the plot). I tend to have a general idea about who they are and what they're like, and then I always get surprised by what they actually end up acting like once we start playing. It's fun for me to figure them out along the way!

The last thing I wanna say about DnD (for now) is that I love everyone else's characters just as much. I just draw mine more because, well, they're mine. I feel weird putting their guys in situations and guessing how they'd react because they aren't my little guys. I much prefer working collaboratively with the other players (like an RP thread) to just writing a story on my own.

Part Two: Ethan

Where to even start with my boy. A bunch of my work friends got together to start a DnD game, and I hadn't played with most of them before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I also did not think the game would last very long, since most campaigns tend to fizzle out after a few sessions. So I made kind of a joke character with extremely little backstory: He's a half-orc, since I hadn't played that race before, he's a bard who is the captain of the local community college's Improv Team, he's "the kind of guy to play wonderwall at a party but you're not mad about it", and I said he's adopted by two men, neither of whom were his biological parents, and he wasn't particularly interested in tracking down his bio parents. This last point is for two reasons: one, I was trying to avoid just duplicating a Dimension 20's Gorgug, a half-orc who was adopted by gnomes and spent the whole first season trying to find his dad; and two, I was pushing an "Adopted parents are not less than biological parents" agenda.

My DM took this personally (affectionate). First session, I was given a clue about his birth parents' identities. From then on, Ethan was dragged kicking and screaming into being the unofficial main character of the campaign. His mom was one of our favorite NPCs, a kickass pirate with a truly tragic backstory who would always jump to help us out of a scrape. His biological dad was the human embodiment of Pride who had took on the form of Fantasy Harrison Ford and was an extremely famous actor in-world. Our BBEG was his uncle, the embodiment of Greed. Every plot point became very personal and it was a lot of fun. I also loved putting him through the wringer, so between me and the DM the poor guy couldn't catch a break.

Part of the dice telling the story, I rolled so bad all the time when I played Ethan. It didn't matter which dice I used, I just rolled really bad, which was not something that normally happened with me. So that was fun to incorporate into his character as we played-- he was insecure about his own abilities compared to the extremely powerful characters he was surrounded by (we had a 20 ft Earth Titan who was an extremely powerful Druid, Emeshka you will always be famous). So he became a more three-dimensional and actualized character the more we played.

He's extremely easy to put in situations and his character design is pretty solid, so I end up drawing him the most. My perfect little guy.

Part Three: Mina

After the campaign with Ethan wrapped up, we started a new one in a Cthulhu-inspired setting. My goal with making Mina was to do as close to a 180 as I could from Ethan. While Ethan was a friendly and charming but bad at most things, Mina is a competent and intelligent Druid who's blunt and overworked and doesn't quite know how to meaningfully engage with her party members (but she tries, bless her). Druid was one of the classes I hadn't played yet and I've been making my way through the list of available classes. The One-With-Nature stuff isn't super interesting to me as a player, but I found a homebrew subclass that was based more in Big Cities and as an Architecture Nerd that was much more my speed. Also, I hadn't played an Aasimar before, so that seemed like fun. From all that, I pulled together her whole deal: She was from a bloodline of guardian angels who were sent to protect different villages and towns, and she's gone from her mother's small town to being the guardian of a city of several million people and it's overwhelming. She's lonely and she's jaded and she's got severe Gifted Kid Syndrome and she's got her head on a swivel to make sure her party members are okay even if they don't like her very much and I love her.

I didn't give her a lot of tragic backstory because there are a lot of us playing and I wanted to have a character who could push the plot forward with her actions, instead of having a "now let's stop and talk about my life!!" moment every session that seemed to happen with Ethan. Give everyone else some time to have cool moments, you know? And by GOD are there some cool moments. My fellow players are so good at making compelling characters. Ask @mothmansbigfatass about Nelly if you get a chance.

We're still playing this campaign, although we're nearing the end of it. There's still space for some big moments for Mina in the game, though I'm hoping our DM lets me save hers for last. She's the kind of character to make sure everyone else is okay before taking care of herself, so it feels appropriate. I'm excited to see where Mina ends up. She's definitely a character I'll go back and write/draw a lot afterwards, though. Part of being in a group this size means there's a lot of stuff that just won't get covered. I'll have a lot of material to play with for my own work once we get to the next campaign.

Part Four: Jess

Jess is a character that isn't from DnD but is a TTRPG character of mine, and I like her so I'm going to talk about her too. Jess is a cautionary tale in Knowing Your Audience.

Jess is from a different group of players than Ethan and Mina. Our DM for that game is notorious for wanting to give us Big, Shonen-Style fight scenes and an insane level of power creep. Character interactions are fine, but his true passion is making us look like Goku.

Jess was... not built to look like Goku. In this world you could identify different types of magic users by their focus, and I wanted her whole schtick to be about deception. She looked like a wizard when she was actually a monk, she looked like a dumb blonde girl when she was extremely smart and good at stealing things, she's a dancer but her primary fighting style was based on capoeira, etc. Also part of why Jess sticks with me as a favorite character is the way I had her powers work was so fun and visually interesting that I haven't been able to shake it. Basically her superpower was that she could snatch bits of other people's powers and use them herself, and you could tell which ones she had because they would fill out spectral stained glass wings with specific colors.

Jess was (and still is, frankly) too complicated for the game our DM wanted to run. Immediately any hope of her being a chronic liar was dashed as her powers did not manifest in a way that could possibly pass off as being a wizard. So instead of being sneaky, Jess became very angry. She was quick to point out injustices in the world we were in. She beat up creeps, she yelled at bigots, she stole powers from macho superheroes trying to one-up her. She had to get a lot less complicated for the story we were in, but the complicated version of her still lives in my head and I like to see what she's up to from time to time.

(I don't think I have anything tagged for Jess, unfortunately)

TL; DR:

TTRPG characters are fun because they let me do my favorite thing creatively, which is bounce ideas off of other people. I typically design them based on the setting, party needs, character tropes that I think are interesting, and just general vibes. Most importantly, though, I don't have a fleshed out character without the input of the other players.

Oh boy I knew someone would ask after I made that post.

Okay so. It’s a crazy story. I’ll start like this: I do life series roleplays with my sister. Well, really we just have the one RP, called cringefail au. It started as a Double Life RP but it’s currently Limited Life now.

“So did Scott and Joel get together in that RP and it made you ship them,” you ask? Kind of. They didn’t get together in CANON cringefail au. HOWEVER. We have like a million AUs of Cringefail AU. We call it the Cringefail Multiverse. Just a bunch of 5th season AUs (that’ll probably become 6th season AUs once we finally reach Secret Life) (also not all of them are 5th seasons some are “escaping the death games” or some alternate scenarios but a majority of them are)

But the VERY FIRST one of our 5th season AUs is where my love for scottishbeans originated. You might be thinking “well this is pretty random but it’s not THAT strange, just a little AU roleplay that spawned a ship!” Well. Before I explain further I want to be clear that THIS AU STARTED AS A JOKE. IT WAS JUST A JOKE. But it got so serious we had to continue.

So now let me tell you the story of Maid Life. Well, I won’t explain the WHOLE plot cuz that would be wack, but I’ll explain where scottishbeans came from in it and how ridiculous the whole situation was.

ALSO IT’S VERY LONG. Sorry idk how to keep things short.

OKAY SO MAID LIFE. First off, I’m gonna explain why we STARTED this joke AU, cuz it actually gives a lot of context.

So my sister and I were messing around with a little team randomizer we love. So we could generate random pairs to imagine as new ships or put them in random scenarios or anything really. The problem was, there were only 17 players! This was before Secret Life. So there was an uneven number.

I decided to be funny and add an 18th thing, something scary that the characters would NOT want to be paired with. And I decided that scary thing would be: “THE MAID OUTFIT”. Yeah idk. It was just really funny to me. So now we would just run the randomizer and see who would get stuck with THE MAID OUTFIT.

I said “welcome to the new season where one of us will be in a maid outfit” and ran it and Pearl ended up getting it. Then we decided to do the REVERSE and here’s where we finally get into maid life. Welcome to Maid Life, where everyone is in a maid outfit except one person (the person who gets paired with THE MAID OUTFIT)

It was Jimmy. Jimmy is the one randomly selected to NOT be in a maid outfit. So we start humoring this “new season” with the idea that there wasn’t really an intro and nobody knows what the gimmick is. But clearly they’re all in a maid outfit except Jimmy so they start assuming the gimmick is that they’re all Jimmy’s maids. In truth it’s just 3rd Life but everyone except Jimmy is in a maid outfit. We also added some other lore to the “gimmick” but that’s irrelevant.

Now here’s where I finally explain what I mean by “evil Jimmy”. Cuz “why would you make him evil?” The answer is I didn’t. He’s my character that I roleplay, but I didn’t make him evil, THE RANDOMIZER DID. Because remember we were doing this because we were having fun with a randomizer. So I decided since Jimmy was the master I would control his actions with the randomizer. AND HE WAS SO BAD.

Lemme explain how this worked. The randomizer was always just everyone’s names + THE MAID OUTFIT generating random pairs (which we could ignore the pairs and pretend it’s a list if needed). The first thing I did was have Jimmy rank who he thought looked the best in their new outfits randomly which has heavily affected the plot lol, Pearl scoring lowest caused her first death, Scar being 5th but being told that “only the top 4 matter” caused a lot of drama, and tons more. The reason only the top 4 matter is because I liked to use “Jimmy” and “THE MAID OUTFIT” as spaces to separate the rankings, so each instance of either one of those things would be a line that would separate the list into “good” “neutral” and “bad” so that Jimmy could decide many things are good or bad or just okay without having a quota of good/bad people to meet. And he seemed to think a MAJORITY of the cast looked bad. So that’s why “only the top 4 matter”, they were the only ones who made it on the good side of the line. (For anyone curious top four was: 4-Etho, 3-Lizzie, 2-Joel, 1-Grian)

The second thing I had Random Jimmy do was assign everyone jobs, since that’s what you’re supposed to do with maids. So I put together a list of 9 jobs he would assign them, and then randomize who would be working each job and who they would be working with. Jimmy was trying to be a good guy by working WITH everyone (but whoever got paired with THE MAID OUTFIT would be working that job alone), but as the plot progresses everyone would honestly rather he didn’t work alongside them 😭

Okay, the base context took WAY too long to explain. The jobs change whenever Jimmy feels they need to, new ones get added, and every morning they have a little meeting where Jimmy reveals the “Maid of the Week” rankings and then assigns everyone their job for the day/week (Jimmy renamed days to weeks).

SO WHERE DO SCOTT AND JOEL COME IN? First a little context of what they were up to individually before their big moment happens. Scott? I don’t really remember. He was friends with Scar and Cleo, mostly interested in drama (hence being friends with Scar) and not really caring much about Jimmy, kind of just realizing along with most people that he’s completely nonsensical. (The weird thing is Jimmy manages to be JUST consistent enough to not feel like a randomizer. He’s scary). But JOEL. Joel didn’t really have any friends, and kept to himself cuz he had his own things going on. Mostly depression. Why? Well, for starters, it’s cringefail au Joel, and he has ten million issues. In Limited Life, he wanted to sacrifice himself for Jimmy, but unlike canon it wasn’t entirely out of love, it was partially out of guilt. Things kept happening in Limited Life that drained Joel’s happiness to the point he was more suicidal than sacrificial, and he eventually fell out of love with Jimmy and was only left with the crushing guilt driving himself to die for him. The one thing stopping Joel was Bdubs. They were married and everything lol. Since we didn’t actually finish Limited Life rp at this time, we can’t say what exactly happened at the end, but we know that no matter what Jimmy dies first. So Joel fails. Then Maid Life begins, and Joel realizes that his purpose this life is to serve Jimmy, and believes it is a sign that he wasn’t supposed to love, he was supposed to give up his life for Jimmy, and this is his chance at redemption.

But Jimmy keeps scoring Joel low. Joel believes that this life was meant for him to make things up to Jimmy, to finally give his life for him, yet he can’t seem to do anything right by Jimmy. Never scoring high on the maid of the week rankings, typically low ranking. It’s devastating him, he’s trying to find ways to make Jimmy happy with him but nothing seems to work. What makes it worse is that he was ranked 2nd on looks so he can’t even use that excuse like Pearl. Jimmy thinks Joel looks nice but he can’t do anything right.

So basically, Joel is one of the few people at this time who actually cares about what Jimmy says and thinks, and Scott doesn’t care that much. Neither of them had really interacted much. One day, they get assigned to the most infamous job together: Paranormal Investigator.

Paranormal Investigator wasn’t a job that was always there, but with sheep mysteriously being dyed and the kitchen that always goes on fire if you feel too many emotions in it, it was something Jimmy had been considering adding and finally did once his pants went missing. Yep, his pants went missing. Everyone knows it wasn’t ghosts, a couple of people noticed Etho wearing the pants the same morning Jimmy was missing them, but Jimmy didn’t notice. He believed it was yet another mysterious occurrence and made paranormal investigator a new job. So it’s half paranormal investigation and half Find The Missing Pants.

The PROBLEM was, Etho and Grian kept getting paranormal investigator, and THEY WERE THE ONES WHO STOLE IT. So the paranormal investigation notes were filled with whatever random BS they wanted Jimmy to believe.

By the time Joel and Scott got assigned to be paranormal investigators together, Scott knew the typical strategy with the job: write down whatever stupid magic thing you want Jimmy to believe. But Joel was always super serious about the jobs he was assigned, and hated this idea. By the end of the day, Scott had made up all kinds of weird stuff, and then Joel quickly added at the end that Scott had made all of that stuff up before Scott could stop him. The next morning, they both ranked at the bottom.

They were furious at each other. “Why would you tell him I made that stuff up?!” “Why are you making stuff up instead of doing your job properly?!” and they were still yelling at each other by the time they had both been assigned to work together AGAIN for the SECOND TIME IN A ROW. I think they were nurse fire fighter therapists now tho (don’t ask, that job has been thru a lot). So they had to VERY ANGRILY stick together the whole day.

This made Scott realize he hadn’t ever really talked with Joel much, and noticed he was really focused on doing good. And also very depressed. He started to sympathize with Joel more, but Joel wasn’t having it. Which made Scott angry. So despite the little bit of understanding blooming, they still hated each other.

They kept getting assigned to either work together, near each other, or Scott would be assigned nurse/firefighter/therapist and choose to hover over Joel, since he could use a nurse a therapist and he’s very flammable so probably a firefighter too. Joel hated it. He hated therapists especially if they were named Scott Smajor.

Okay here’s where things get a little YIKES! I don’t remember how EXACTLY it started or when but Joel came to realize that the more he suffered, the higher he would score in the rankings. So he started hurting himself since it was the only thing he knew that Jimmy APPARENTLY liked. Even if he completely ignored his assigned job, he could still score good if he hurt himself badly.

Which is why I said he could use a nurse, and why Scott liked to hover around him. He became concerned. He always tried being a therapist and trying to convince Joel to stop caring what Jimmy thought, but the problem went so deep it wasn’t that easy. It’s worth mentioning that Scott once told Joel a story of something “that happened to [him] once” in an attempt to convince Joel to care more about what he wants instead of what he thinks he’s supposed to do, until he finished the story and Joel realized “we don’t remember anything other than the death games, that never happened to you!” And Scott said “no it totally did” and we decided to make it part of his actual Cringefail backstory lol. So it did.

Scott caught on that Jimmy would score Joel higher if he was hurt too, and became furious. Nobody really liked Jimmy much, but now Scott HATED him. He had tried to convince Joel that Jimmy wouldn’t want him to do that but THE RANDOMIZER GETS REAL CONSISTENT WITH THIS FOR SOME REASON!!!

Joel also starts getting assigned to Paranormal Investigator A LOTTT. And he HATES IT. It is arguably one of the WORST jobs. It means NOTHING, you are typically stuck interrogating Etho and Grian who will make it HELL for you, you HAVE to work off the previously written material which includes the time traveling ball pit from fnaf, and Jimmy REALLY CARES ABOUT THIS so you HAVE to be careful what you write. It’s MISERABLE especially for someone like Joel who is ACTUALLY TRYING HIS BEST.

^ literally. It was SOOO BAD for him. He was almost CONSTANTLY at his breaking point and Jimmy would NOT let him catch a break. It was practically the only reason he let Scott get close to him, because he LITERALLY could not take it anymore. It got so bad that he would finally let himself indulge in Scott’s comfort even tho he thought it was wrong. And Scott kept trying his best to therapize Joel.

It doesn’t sound very good when I poorly explain it like this but ah. I remember “that was the first time you told me what you wanted” and other moments so well. They still like, hated each other, but it was in a more gay way. They got caught in the deep dark once and summoned the warden and had to escape, that was fun. And let’s not even get into the freaking ice cream thing. God.

But that kind of reminds me of another reason Scott HATEDD Jimmy. He liked to see Joel suffer, but also would enjoy when Scott was being gay with him. Scott feels like Jimmy is a total creep about Joel and hates it so much he wants Jimmy AWAYY especially since Joel WANTS to please him.

But then big moment!!! Joel and Scott get into a FIGHT!!! I wish I could remember exactly what was said but basically Joel yells at Scott like “I don’t care about you and I never will you suck go away forever” and Scott is obviously really upset and runs away. Then Joel is instantly hit with regret because he didn’t actually mean what he said, he just was trying to push Scott away the whole time because he knows from Limited Life that falling in love will distract him from his purpose and cause him to fail, and he doesn’t want to know what life will make him go through next if he fails cuz Maid Life has been HELL. So he was trying to push Scott away so he wouldn’t care about anyone other than Jimmy, but now he realized it’s too late, cuz he feels awful seeing how upset he made Scott. It is then that he realizes that his regret in Limited Life wasn’t that he didn’t die for Jimmy, but that he neglected his lover Bdubs for it and made Bdubs feel like Joel would rather die for some guy he doesn’t even like than live a happy life with his lover.

Meanwhile with Scott, Cleo had been helping him with his relationship kind of for a while, and since she barely knows what’s going on, only whatever Scott tells her which constantly flips between “he hates me I’m starting to feel like I’m doing something wrong whenever I try to help him”, “I literally have no idea what message he’s trying to send me”, and “I LOVE HIM SO MUCH <3 HE’S SO NICE TO ME!!!” Her only conclusion is “you’re insane get some help” and after Joel said that to him she convinces him to move on.

And then the next morning Joel goes over to Scott and apologizes for that and says that now he’s ready to commit to Scott and try to ignore Jimmy (but he still wants to try to do his job but he’ll try not to hurt himself to do it). And Scott instantly caves and then they love each other so much <3 they’re finally not dancing around their feelings and are officially in love. They still like to hate each other sometimes for fun cuz they both like it but overall they don’t mean it and they love each other.

Joel also talks to Bdubs! He knows the only reason he’s finally able to be in a healthier relationship with Scott is because of Bdubs so he goes and talks to him and apologizes for Limited Life and says he wishes he showed Bdubs how much he loved him then and Bdubs appreciates it. He also lets Bdubs take off his mask around him but that’s a whole other part of Maid Life we don’t have to talk about. Scott and Joel aren’t the only ones with crazy stuff going on that AU is ironically one of our angstiest.

SO YEAH THATS HOW SCOTT X JOEL HAPPENED IN MAID LIFE. I was like “man, I love this ship so much, I wonder if I can make it work in canon?” So I put on a playlist apple music made for me with mostly songs I hadn’t listened to and began trying to remember any Scott and Joel interactions throughout the canon life series. That’s when I realized they actually had an incredibly interesting rivalry the entire time and I hadn’t noticed. The reason I brought up that I was listening to music is that Al Dente by Jack Stauber came up and it helped me imagine their dynamic and now I think the song is so them despite the fact that it’s probably not? I don’t actually know what the song is about at all but to me it’s about them. You know how it is. I’ll occasionally sprinkle references to the song in my scottishbeans works but you’ll probably not find many as I get embarrassed.

Yeah Maid Life was crazy, I’ve basically summarized the Scott and Joel stuff, but only briefly mentioned the Bdubs stuff, never got into detail about what Scar’s got going on (and how fake his friendship with Scott was on both sides), didn’t mention that Gritho are the most in love actually and also the biggest menaces, or that Grian is an omen of death, or whatever Impulse has going on and don’t forget his thing with Martyn, and Tango and Ren and Tango’s drama with Jimmy, the election where the winner only had one voter who ACTUALLY wanted him to win, man there’s so much even the people I didn’t mention have some sort of thing going on.

And I must thank Maid Life for making me look deeper into Scott and Joel’s canon relationship, because now I love it more than the Maid Life version. Though, scottishbeans started appearing in more cringefail AUs, and it’s pretty nice. Also, I love smallidarity, and cringefail makes me want to explode.

What’s your OTP for your Muse(s)?

I don’t have fandom OTPs (though I do have ships I favor over others). As such, I don’t have true rp OTPs. I understand this isn’t the norm… my condolences. 

To jump on the… no, PULL, the bandwagon, like a mule, I say… *chin-hands* I cherish all the ships you see here, from the familial to the romantic to the sadistic (currently active or not).  Since I enjoy a variety of dynamics, I feel very lucky to have the muns and friends who’ve taken the time to write with me, especially over this last year. 

What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?

I like to feel things out through the writing and let the ships sail organically and perhaps also majestically along the Aegean... or straight into Charybdis; it depends. When the writing works, I find we’ll inevitably have conversations about where we want to set our sails. When in doubt or with a new mun, I try to follow your lead. Pre-establishing ships are something we have to discuss and plot. 

I don’t partake in pregnancy threads, nor do I read them. No exceptions.

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

Mun can take or leave age gaps. The muse… In default aus, Modern!/Music!Ben’s around 30-34, and as (self conscious) public figures, I’m not sure either would date under 28. But Music!Ben is Music!Ben. Ex-Con!Ben is 34+ and, at any rate, would much rather any romantic interest be at least around his age. 

I move all over Dark!Ren’s timeline. Sometimes he’s he’s a 40-something-year-old cyborg who absorbed all his knights and roams wild space for fresh meat.  Sometimes, he’s a deranged 25-year-old still-kind-of-a-kid on a leash holding a bunch of other deranged kids on leashes. His primary interest is the Ren. You do the math. 

Are you selective when shipping?

Romance/sensual/sexual: Yes and no. No, because I like to ship. Yes, because consent, communication, compatibility, and chemistry are what make a ship fly. (Quadruplex, bitch!) We’re not getting to That Side of Neverland on nothing but pixie dust. 💅

Familial/platonic: Trick question, we still have to have the four Cs. 

As a side note on romantic ships, so long as we keep things PG-13/fade to black, we don’t have to talk all the time or often. We can sail side by side in silence while our muses figure things out.

How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW?

Hello there! Today I’m looking for an 18+ rp, which would be OC x OC and MxM, with my character being a trans man that still has some female anatomy and is closeted. This rp would involve some 🍪 since both the characters involved in it would be in high school. What year of high school they are can be discussed depending on what direction we want to take this rp in. I want this plot to have a balance of angst and fluff. The situation the characters find themselves in is tough and their relationship will be tested, but ultimately they’ll always have each other to come home to and cuddle with. With all that out of the way, here’s the plot I wanted to do!

Your Character was from a rough background, his family doesn’t have a lot of money, he lives in a rundown apartment on the bad side of town with his parents, and no one expects much more from him than to join a gang and get himself thrown in prison soon. Over the summer, he’d found himself in a secret relationship with Sasha, the son of one of the wealthiest families in their city. One day near the beginning of the school year Your Character and Sasha have sex, and a few weeks later Sasha admits to them that he’s pregnant. His parents find out and offer Sasha two choices, get rid of the baby or be kicked out and cut off from the family. Not wanting to get rid of it, Sasha goes to Your Character. How do two high schoolers with little to no help find a way to support themselves and make a new life for them? As long as they have each other they can figure something out, right?

As you can see, I basically want to do a high school pregnancy plot, where neither character has a good support structure so they’re on their own trying to figure out how to get through this. I tried to leave your character pretty vague so you could figure out what you wanted them to act like and what their backstory would be! If you didn’t like anything I put in the plot you can feel free to change it, the main aspect is just that they have a rough home life and are seen as kind of an outcast by the school. 4. What are your top five fics by kudos? The First Lady - my ongoing fic where I answer the most important question in the world: what was Abbey Bartlet doing during the episodes she didn't appear in?

Josh and the Jackass - what happened right before Governor Bartlet decided to follow Josh to the airport in In the Shadow of Two Gunmen.

Breathe - a post-ep for Dead Irish Writers. Her birthday party is over, and Abbey Bartlet must face the New Hampshire Medical Board.

A Bit Desperate - part three of a series of three-sentence fics about Abbey and Jed in the aftermath of Zoey's kidnapping.

Anything Else I Need to Know - Five times the staff of Bartlet for America interrupted a barbecuing session and one time CJ interrupted a different kind of session. Takes place during the First Bartlet Campaign.

5. Do you respond to comments? Yes, I do. I do my best to respond to every comment I get, as fast as I can. It's a two-way street, we, as fic authors, often complain (and rightly so) about the lack of feedback, the lack of comments and kudos, but we don't respond to comments. As a reader, I am more likely to comment on a fic from an author who's replied to my comments earlier. But I guess I get so few comments that I can easily respond to all of them 🤷‍♀️ and since there are like 7 people who care about what I write, the least I can do is respond to their very kind comments 💜💜

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I guess it's Anything Else I Need to Know. The ending isn't too angsty by itself, but if you put it into context and you know the overarching plot of first few seasons of TWW, it's definitely angsty. Honorable mentions: With Pomp and Parade & And the Silence Haunts our Bedchamber - they both deal with the aftermath of Zoey's kidnapping.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? White Christmas. And Something for Us to Remember too also qualifies. You have to read them to know why 😊😉

8. Do you get hate on fics? Luckily, I'm not popular or interesting enough for that 😅

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes! Oh, all kinds! The worst thing I've ever written came before I started my fanfic writing career (I used to be involved in forum RP, I'm less active there now) and... nope, I'm not going to write about it here. Too cursed. 🙈🙈 If you want to see some sane smut I've written, check out Game On, Boyfriend! I hope I'll write another barbecuing fic soon, so stay tuned.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I don't. But I'd love to see a TWW/NCIS crossover.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, I haven't. The closest thing to co-writing fics was RP-ing which is sort of similar, but not really lol. It might be fun, so if anyone's interested in writing with me, let me know.

14. What's your all time favorite ship? Abbey/Jed! There are many ships I love, but I have to go with my horny nerds.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? There was a WIP I started last year, the first fic I posted, but I ended up deleting it, so it's not very likely that I'll ever finish it.

16. What are your writing strengths? I'm really, really good at research lol! If I'm writing a fic set in the 1960s, I'll make sure that they're eating food, wearing clothes, listening to music etc. that was popular in that period. You won't catch any of my characters wearing historically inaccurate shoes. I'm also really good at digging up random canon details and writing thousands of words around them.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Plot lmao. I write fics about nothing, it's just banter and nerdiness, with the characters and/or the author showing off 🤣🤣

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Hmmm... I don't know, don't think I've ever needed to do it, but I guess it depends on what I want to achieve, I might write it in English and add a dialogue tag like "she said in French" or something.

19. First fandom you wrote for? The first fandom I published a fic for was The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, but the first fandom I wrote for was Harry Potter.

Next time, he’s going to pay attention. He’s going to pay attention to Mrs. Landingham’s notes on the Governor's schedule. And he’s going to pay attention to Mrs. Landingham’s instructions, so he’ll know what her notes on the Governor’s schedule actually mean. Next time, he’s going to pay attention.

Had Josh been paying attention, he would’ve noticed when the Governor dashed across the hall and up the stairs right after lunch. Had he been paying attention, he would’ve noticed Leo’s smirk that followed the Governor’s departure. Had he been paying attention, perhaps he would’ve noticed the soft, rhythmic squeaking of the bed and muffled gasps and groans coming from the Bartlets’ suite right before he opened the door.

Well, too bad that Josh wasn’t paying attention.

“I spoke slowly and I didn’t use big words, but I couldn’t talk him out of marrying Liz. Maybe I should’ve taken him on a hike. A six-hour hike through Vermont wilderness in the dead of winter would’ve changed his mind.”

“It wasn’t a six-hour anything! I was there, Jed, you were only gone for two hours.”

“You weren’t there, Abigail, you were baking with your mother, while I was fighting for dear life, braving the cold and wolves and bears.” He sighs and adds, “Guess it’s too late to take Doug hiking now and leave him for the bears.”

White Christmas: “’She – New Hampshire – is one of the two best states in the Union. Vermont’s the other’, said Robert Frost, your favorite poet, who also happened to be the poet laureate of Vermont.” Abbey made a dramatic pause and gave Jed a pointed look.

“She’s one of the two best states in the Union. Vermont’s the other.” She continued her performance. “And the two… the two lie like wedges, thick end to thin end and thin end to thick end.”

Jed chuckled.

“Sweet Knees, we’ll lie like wedges, thick end to thin end and thin end to thick end any time you want,” he leered at her, “on our bed, in front of the fireplace, on the kitchen table…” his smirk grew when Abbey’s lips curved into a little smile and her cheeks flushed, “but Robert Frost named his poetry collection New Hampshire, not Vermont.”

“Well, I’m going to write the words ‘Freedom and Unity’ on the pie and you’re going to eat them!”

The First Lady: “Mrs. Landingham withholds food from me,” he complained.

“Because I asked her to.”

“Yeah, cause you don’t want me eating real food like steaks or hamburgers. She won’t let me have a banana.”

“I’m sure you did something to piss her off.” Abbey shrugged.

“Yes,” she said innocently.
