I'm reminded of a story I saw some years ago, about a young girl whose parents were both Native American.
However, her great-grandmother was not.
This poor girl was the spitting image of that great-grandmother. Blonde hair, blue eyes, freckles like a Norman Rockwell painting. White as fucking wonder bread.
But her mom, dad, aunts, uncles, and siblings - to whom she was biologically related to - were all very much Native American.
That -
That's complicated. But if I was her, I'da voted No, cause you know she has spent her life fighting for her identity.

#Yes#quin muses#I know a couple half latino friends who are white-passing too#Honestly though I do think this would've been better as a two-answer poll#no it's complicated/other option#xD the comments might have been more wild though#Also white-ness in America is... weird. Like culturally#socially#it's just honestly complicated#unless you're white-white#which is going to sound like an inane statement#to any non-american#but that's kind of my point

there's this sentiment of "maybe we americans do deserve trump" and i gotta say you're wrong. america is more than the people who voted for him, and there's a lot of good here. those of us who voted for harris, or third party, or refrained from voting -- none of us deserve him. a despot for a leader isn't recompense for the grave sin of failing to stop him
#this has been a post#uspol#if the wording wasn't clear enough. this is aimed at fellow americans#i honestly can't begrudge any non-american for carrying this sentiment

I have always wanted to believe in ignorance over malice, but in the 2024 us elections...
I think it's both.
and I'm not sure if I can see Trump supporters as human beings anymore.
#us politics#us elections#donald trump#they are the enemy#im sorry#theyve snapped whats left of my patience and compassion#you want to rot in your white trash trailers where your kids can barely eat and read bc u believed a senile racists lies to stay out of jail#then do it#im done#hes never helped you nor has any politician youve ever voted for#but if thats all youre smart enough for#if thats the best your mind can do#then maybe you deserve it#but i am sorry to the non americans out there#you do not deserve this#and i am so sorry

one thing i think is very funny about severance is them redoing famous paintings to fit into their whole founder cult thing.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/67ceeccec4e18f8c998733a5f146ce36/b29becd3a77d04fd-0a/s540x810/4d63b8206398b7969581138e29f9c6d26672c5da.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/623d272085b15d3d6ddb663f35f88ae1/b29becd3a77d04fd-07/s540x810/56a81ff74411f0f98f867bfb938ff21b4e472a77.jpg)
like them stealing the pose from “Wanderer Above a Sea Of Mist” . Also Irving and the O&D guy having an almost…… obvious reaction to the ‘sublime’ (as in they found it beautiful but terrifying) which was a big theme of Caspar David Friedrich’s art and especiqlly evident in this piece. but also it is unlike Friedrich’s work because it turns his rükenfigur (a figure facing away from the viewer which is also a recurring theme in his works) into a figure that Does indeed look back at you.
German Romanticism was also very focused on finding God in nature (it was a kind of attempt at reigniting christian religious fervor) so its apt to include it in the way that Lumon’s whole deal seems to draw very heavily from christianity.
No idea if the background is taken from somewhere else (they look like the great lakes to me?) I just really love Caspar David Friedrich.

also the mussolini facade vs that big relief sculpture. maybe theres a better analogue but this was my first thought.
anyways I think its fun in the way that the symbolism is kinda heavy handed lol. Or maybe I only feel that way as an art history student idk. But I do enjoy when a show can give me a little of that kind of reference …… IF they do it well.
also disclaimer: I am only on season 1 episode episode 5 as of this post! Please do not discuss beyond that episode with me until I catch up thanks <3
#it also . makes me think a LOT of mormonism in like#Kier = Joseph Smith but .#the Kier idolization is giving christian cult that originated in the 1800s ok!#honestly any cult I could make a L Ron Hubbard analogue too#i am just . an exmormon ok its the first thought in my head#severance#im sure someone has already talked about this ad nauseum but im just now watching#so like cut me some slack .#jordan talks#wanderer above a sea of mist is a fave like i cant not immediately recognize that pose !#the background feels very like. american pioneer themed paintings?#but tbh i havent studied american art much.#i took a 19th century class that focused on europe.#i would loveee to take more i just need a break from research essays .#i dont recognize the first painting they showed sorry but im sure its somewhere#it seems maybe renaissance or baroque . or 19th century academic?#which we mainly studied non academic movements soo#plus it gets harder to identify style and movement exactly when theyre editing/painting over#bc its not Actually from that period lol. yknow#anyways it can be wanderer about a sea of mist or wanderer above a sea of fog#bc of german to english translation. thanks#the german word is Nebelmeer#hi guys im an art history minor so im not a hugeeee expert#but i love talking about art history:)#I would say I have in depth knowledge mainly for baroque (northern and southern) 19th century non academic movements and medieval european#and then i have a general knowledge of western art canon and chinese art.

was just watching a deep dive on why the 90s AG characters suck and
the American Girl twins of 1999, age 9: we're going to do a cool Spice Girls dance for the New Millenium celebration! it'll be da bomb!
me on December 31, 1999, age 6: MOTHER I MUST RESEARCH THE LOCH NESS MONSTER ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB RIGHT NOW
#Y2K#american girl#genuinely that's what I spent that day doing#I had a New Millenium-themed Cabbage Patch Kid doll? but she wasn't as cool as my big sister's Samantha (with ACCESSORIES!) so#keep in mind I was already a nerdy child who wasn't allowed to watch any non-PBS TV so I may not be representative#but I enjoyed the Girl of Today sections of the AG catalogue and those dolls didn't look like Isabel and Nicki#they looked like. real prepubescent children in the late 1990s

not to get fake deep or anything but does anyone else feel like these last few months and heading into this year is weirdly punctuated by like… grief. it feels like a lot of things we kind of assumed would be here forever are going away and its a really strange feeling. and its weird bc it applies to big things everyone is aware of like los angeles or the us tiktok ban but its also been applying to a lot of things in my personal life and the life of a lot of other people i know. or i guess id say its more broadly change than grief because its not like im really that attached to every one of them like it feels dramatic to call reacting to tiktok being banned in the us “grief” but like ive spent more nights than usual recently kind of looking back to even just like fall 2023 and feeling like that was forever ago because so much has changed so quickly. and some of that change is good (like luigi and everything he spawned) and some of it is bad but its all kind of scary. and i know that happens literally all the time and every year but idk something in my gut just makes this all feel like its a bit more. like 2025 will end up feeling more like a divider between eras than most of us anticipated
#obviously im only mentioning us centric things here bc i am an american so thats my perspective.. and im from socal no less so#but literally one of the things i was thinking abt was bad bunny’s new album and it being fear and grief over puerto rico.. not that i-#really understand that firsthand but it fits right in with everything else ive been noticing#if my non-american mutuals and followers have any similar thoughts feel free to tell me…

Vasco seems like a honeycomb (candy) type of guy tbh
Never heard of it before, but it looks nice. Apparently it's really easy to make at home as well? Is it good?? The texture seems interesting.
#answered#anonymous#is it aggressively honeyish?#I don't really like honey but I have a sudden desire to try the sea sponge confectionery#edit:#as a non-american/non-anglosphere person there's just so many well known iconic household name foods that aren't part of my life at all#I like baking so I've been meaning to try making shortbread and sugar cookies just to see what they taste like#like are they similar to any cookies I already know#made smores for the first time a couple years back#last year I made cheesecake which I had tried before but never made myself#I don't think I've ever eaten a proper actual brownie#Finland has mokkapala which is similar but has coffee in it so I'm not sure if it counts#don't even get me started on american brand stuff#I can explain a person what a twinkie is but I've never seen one live

There's a very specific feeling when you come to tumblr to doomscroll but the bad news apparently hasn't hit tumblr yet. Like I'm a soothsayer in a town about to be doomed but no one else knows it yet.
#anyway! the supreme court just ruled that presidents have immunity and can never be tried for any official action they take#sorry to my american followers just finding this out#and sorry to my non-american followers who i assume have to hear about it nonstop despite not living in the doomed town#us politics

(undeserved), and he supports gay rights and that caused controversies? what? also his new cool american movie star name is kal naga

"european trans women on this site talking about their petty little problems with "transmisogynists" like. fucking excuse me???? im a TRANS MAN living in AMERICA do you even give a shit about the shit thats happening over here??? you are NOT allowed to voice ANY of your lived experiences if i decide that they make ME look bad!!! this is INFIGHTING! this is MISANDRY!! now is NOT the time for you fucking evil tra- uh.,, trans radfems, to be WHINING about how we 'oppress you'. we don't. now shut up and let the MEN talk."
-actual post i saw on my tl just now (obviously paraphrased with key subtext lol)
#in case anyone was curious i will outline the issues in order:#1. the condescending mansplain scold-y tone. very prominent among misogynists cis and otherwise#2. announcing youre american at every given opportunity (used here for pity points). like. okayyyyyy#2.5. implying the state of the US wrt anti-trans rhetoric and legislation alike arent primarily targeting transfeminine ppl#and that trans men are effectively caught in the crossfire with legislation and otherwise are not NEARLY as socially affected#3. passive aggressively pretending as if the utter state of the US doesnt have ramifications on all other countries :/#3.5. effectively ignoring or undermining any non-US folks that may be affected by anti-trans political rhetoric (youre not us so who care)#4. asking for trans women to stop talking about genuine problems and grievances for the sake of “trans unity”#aka the “i dont want to think about your problems and i dont want you to make them my problem either” response#sounds like unity to me :)#5. “infighting” is basically a dogwhistle at this point; it deliberately muddies the waters. it makes it harder to talk about like#yknow. the actual infighting?#like i saw a reasonably popular artist get mistreated by some transmed prick earlier.#but its only “infighting” when women do it. otherwise everyones all “oh i cant believe theyd say something like this to you"#i can. ive been mistreated by scumlord transmeds from day one and the majority of them were guys#fucking hate that it happened to you of course but yeah no shit a lot of guys are assholes.#6. just call me a fucking slur if youre going to. it makes it easier for the both of us wrt determining tone#bonus: (less serious but still funny to point out) the way usamericans refer to anyone non-american and non-asian as “european”#we have countries actually. its not just some writhing coalescing amalgam of 'states'. YOURE the odd one out lol#again its not serious#its just like. im welsh. and welsh roma at that.#im not european in the same way that like a dutch or a german person is#half of europe hate my people for existing and then usamericans have the fuckin gall to call me a “privileged white european”#half you americans dont know shit about us or the ways in which we're mistreated#half you late teens he/him fags are using words that come from my fucking language#“its polari” where dyou think polari came from huh. dyou think it was just made up as a fun little code language?#queer ppl started to use it because it was already in use by other criminalized folks!! us!!#and for the record we're still effectively criminalized in the UK! theres a fucking mountain of legislature that targets us#ok yeah this is too ranty im turning off rbs on this bitch#usamericans are just on thin fucking ice at this point

You know sometimes I think about Aesfrost and how inconvenient it sounds to live in and I go "WHY would anyone in their right minds go live in the icy mountains with only rapids to travel through and no access whatsoever to salt and it seems like farming and livestock rearing would be made really difficult also,"
and then I think about how I grew up in Arizona and. you know what I can't say it makes SENSE but there is definitely historical precedence for people living in places that make zero sense simply because they think they probably can
#triangle strategy#non-canon ts notes#as a kid a regular point of discussion during arizona summers was 'why did anyone choose to live here ever and how did they not die'#which there are technically a lot of reasons for historically! lots of fascinating stuff!#funnily enough one of the big reasons american settlers wanted to stay there was indeed mining#does not make it any less excrutiatingly hot but. you know. interesting stuff

I was going to wait to talk about this until Disability Pride Month, and instead will probably just talk about it a second time then, because food allergies are extremely underrecognized as a disability. But did you know that if you live in the US and have a sufficiently severe corn allergy, you can't safely be prescribed about 95% percent of pills because they all have fucking cornstarch in them as a binding agent? And the corn-free alternatives obviously cost more — if they even exist at all?
I'm just saying, there's an entirely unique emotion that over 99% of humans have never even felt. And it's called "realizing that you're allergic to your own lifelong allergy medication."
#non-american corn allergy havers actually welcomed and encouraged to add on if it's the same in your country or not#i genuinely want to know but i don't want to make any assumptions in either direction#bc i know america is uniquely bad with corn overproduction & cornstarch inescapability#but i also know some of the stuff that's burned me before is manufactured in other countries#& unsure where the companies sell/if they sell with the same formula in other places#anyways. i'm coincidentally in the market for an antacid and i'm Angry :) (passive aggressive smile emoticon)#allergyposting#disability
