i haven't even seen control and i already know on principle i have issues with it
#to be 100% fair i have not seen it and my feelings on certain aspects could change or have been addressed in the film#however fundamentally i think my problem is anton LMAO#i get black and white is his thing and his style but i feel like that was a bad choice ultimately#because stylistically it plays into kevin cummins' famous black and white photography of the group#which very much was not an accurate or true to life representation of the group and their personalities#and stephen mentioned in an interview he tried to dispel that in his book somewhat#to add a human and fun and passionate portrayal of the group especially ian#it just plays into how the band became seen and are still seen to this day because of kevin's photographs and ian's death#and just as a biopic playing into this idk mythologized portrayal of the band doesnt totally sit right with me#its just playing back into it and continuing that not totally true representation of the group#obviously ian's illness and struggles shouldnt be taken or portrayed lightly but the use of black and white for the entire film#and focus on his illness makes him really one-dimensional (at least from how i feel he will be characterized) and makes his death seem#more noteworthy than his life and dreams and work#BUT AGAIN I HAVENT SEEN THE FILM and my worries are somewhat not totally true or fair#thats just how it seems to me
