Walking the perimeter of #Cabbagetown as we practice looking, listening, and collecting ideas and stories. M tells us about #shotgunhouses / under the #Marta train on #DekalbAvenue as we near the railroad tracks that were destroyed during the #battleofatlanta / these #railroadtracks used to go somewhere #historymemory #cabbagetown #knowyourneighborhood #tnsatlanta #designclass #publicart #communityart (at Cabbagetown, Atlanta)

Today was one of those days where everything came together and reminded me that doing what I love is the most important thing to do. We welcomed special guest artists here from Israel @tnsatlanta ✨For one year, Maya + Roie are traveling the States with their project #mindtheheart @mindtheheartproject Their work is rooted in my very favorite topics: wandering (#dérive), mindfulness, and #topophilia (understanding a place/ loving a place). They create public artworks from yarn (among other materials) and collaborate with people in cities all over the world, practicing #mindfulness and sharing their hearts (literally + metaphorically). Check them out and connect them with your people! They're heading to the west coast after winter (great guest artists for any age and I thought of you over and over @lorigordon) #tnsatlanta #thenewschool #artclass #visitingartists #socialsculpture #relationalaesthetics #publicart #artinthepublicrealm #interventionart #livingasform #civicimagination (at TNS - The New School)

Stormy skies, fireworks, and lots of love to everyone who made the @tnsatlanta exhibition so beyond amazing this evening. (Also, @maksimhull , your scream at the fireworks is still making me laugh. Thanks for being such a good one.) #lastweekofschool #fireworks #exhibitionofstudentlearning #imsotiredicouldvomit (at TNS - The New School)

Yesterday‘s opening raised $199 for @thepatchworkscabbagetown ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Today we walked over to our exhibition and have the privilege of meeting Shannon, one of the rare folks in #Cabbagetown who is from there and still there. She told us stories about driving go carts on Boulevard, a wrestling rink on Tye Street where the matches cost 25 cents, the dichotomy of being a child in a neighborhood full of open doors and love but also drug addiction and crime. I’m so grateful for her time and support of our endeavors @tnsatlanta I was completely delighted to see the portraits of her created by famed artist photographers #OraienCatledge and #PanoramaRay ✨#ittakesavillage #thesearethepeopleinyourneighborhood #historymemory #fieldandwork #carrollstreet #shero @carrollstcafe (at Carroll Street Cafe)

I just love this place. A reliquary of Cabbagetown history, @thepatchworkscabbagetown has everything. Cotton bags from the time before plastic, audio interviews, videos, photography spanning over 100 years, mill artifacts, #panoramaray and other original art... Thanks for making this center happen, Nina & Jacob. I’m excited about our collaboration with @tnsatlanta #artandhistory #cabbagetown #atlanta #historymemory #milltown #cottonmill #roots (at The Patch Works Art & History Center)

We walked out. Together we stood on the edge of Memorial Drive in Cabbagetown. I saw a student pull their orange t-shirt over their jacket. There were many, many honks and thumbs-ups in solidarity, including 3 City of Atlanta vehicles. For 17 minutes we were silent and we were aware and we celebrated, recognized, and mourned lives lost. I personally mourned for anyone who has lost their life to violence, especially in schools. I mourned the lack of adequate resources to help the young people who make these atrocious choices. I am hopeful about the next generation, about a culture of empathy and tenderness. I love all of you so much. Hold each other close. Please ask for help when you need it. We’re all imperfect and there are many places to feel safe. Let’s help school be one of those places for everyone. Listen and work hard. Be that change. (& thank you to the #highschoolstudents who put this idea into action, born from the #Parkland shooting. We hear you and we’re grateful that you’ve inspired us to share our voices and show up to the conversation) #nationalschoolwalkout #ENOUGH #practicelistening #advocateforchange @tnsatlanta (at TNS - The New School)

Today in #Cabbagetown we hung out on the porch of #CabbagetownPatch for a bit, then we began collecting for a city #reliquery 💎 It was no surprise that so many things picked up had to do with construction #citychanges #historymemory #gentrification #takingnotes #ThePatchWorksArtandHistoryCenter #topophilia @tnsatlanta (at The Patch Works Art & History Center)
