my thoughts on the next step 9a
clude leaving is so bittersweet... i'm so sad we've lost such a sweet couple and great wlw representation but they left happy and stronger than ever!!!!!!!
the colour symbolism with kenzie's signature colour going from yellow from to blue is a subtle but effective character choice imo. the yellow in s8 felt more youthful joyful and vibrant for when she was new to being dance captain, whereas now kenzie's blue wardrobe in s9 shows that she's maturing and gaining wisdom as dance captain, but is also going through some tough times too. blue is also tns' signature colour so it also shows that she's an important part of the studio!!!
i love heath in this season... his energy, his attitude, his relationships, carter's acting, everything 💯
grace's reasoning for wanting revenge is so silly because she legit made herself an outcast and when kenzie tried to talk with her she just dipped
i'm still upset and bitter and frustrated with daisy leaving........ i just hate seeing great potential dropped like that. melody was such a good addition to the cast!! also where was her goodbye scene with izzy???????? she wasn't just close with heath; she was close to izzy too!!!!!!
my heart broke for pete multiple times and i'm glad that we had a storyline tackling grief and (briefly) men's mental health. i wish it had more of a focus and lasted for longer but it was still effective.
thalia and eldon are still together!!!!!!!! yesssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!
JACQUIE MENTION YESSSSSSSSSS I'VE WAITED FOR TIMES LIKE THIS
kenzie basically being both the dance captain and studio head by herself because what does nick even do retroactively makes riley look even worse at being studio head.......... yeah season 4's treatment of riley is still annoying me in the year 2024
idk if it's just me but does anyone else feel like it's not internationals???? the vibe feels much more like regionals or nationals. the scale doesn't quite feel grand enough
i wasn't sure that heath was "the heart of the team" but after watching all of 9a, not only is he the heart of the team he's also the team therapist and cheerleader... i love to see it
i love that anthony is still a ball of stress/anxiety and is also in a really important leader position as group choreographer. so often you see anxious people just depicted as introverts and not as leaders, so it's nice to see someone who's anxious but also a very capable leader
olive is the definition of a precious cinnamon roll. she's sounds like a disney princess every time she talks. she reminds me of amy in s4 too!! she really is just the 🥺 emoji
random point but i love that adele's signature colour being emerald green. it reminds me of ariel's tail in the little mermaid and now i'm thinking of an au where adele is ariel and anthony is prince eric
i know i'm probably in the minority here but i am totally on board with anthony x adele (should their ship name be anthele/adelthony/adelony??). anthony really had one conversation with her alone and just fell for her instantly. some fans probably think it's dumb and realistic but i think it's really sweet and they have potential for 9b
i do also lowkey ship adele x olive because they're so cute together (and they remind me of pamy a little.) when adele didn't want to work with ariana but was unable to resist olive's puppy dog eyes...... they're so cute!!!
kenzie and pete are really just the sweetest couple ever and they have such a natural, easy chemistry... they're definitely one of the best couples tns has had in years 😘👌
IS HEATH'S DAD DEAD???????????????
ethan showing character development by being much more of a team player, we love to see it!!! he's still competitive but he's ready to share his ambitions with others
kenzie holding hands with heath was such a sweet, underrated moment... i love seeing strong, supportive and affectionate platonic male/female relationships
ebby naming her pet snail snaiyoncé is iconic
izzy calling heath "heathcliff" and heath calling izzy "isadora"....... the best friendism of it all
eldon mentioning west's iconic bangers and mash solo!!!!!! yes, thank you!!!!!! west is one of the most iconic dancers this show has ever had!!!!!!!!!
kenzie is allergic to flowers, noted!
heath is penzie's no. 1 shipper
ariana putting jett front row centre in her trio........ i know what you are................
ethan's loyalty to izzy is so sweet
WHO IS GETTING CUT??????????????
grace is definitely turning on ariana in 9b... i have a feeling she's going to out her as a traitor and a troupe might kick her off the team for a few episodes
remi is totally going to break ebby's heart, isn't he???
i have a feeling that presley might return to talk to her sister and say something like "chill ariana i'm fine living life and there was no need for getting revenge"
is ethan getting a boyfriend in 9b??????
can't wait for chekhov's bo staff to make its grand return in 9b
also how many enemies to lovers / rivals to lovers style relationships is heath going to have???? ozzy, daisy, pascale....... heath is immune to not having some sort of conflict in his relationships
this is a long shot but i'm really hoping to see more previous cast members returning. yeah i know it's not necessary, but i still want to know what our old faves all doing with their lives
given season 9's marketing has been pretty terrible it really does make me doubt that there will be a season 10. i would like a last series to tie the whole show together and maybe have a few reunions so the show has a great send-off, but feels unlikely now that they really dropped the ball when promoting this series
bring on 9b!!!!!!!!!
this is really jumbled and i've probably missed out so many things but i'm very unorganised so there you go

Deleted scenes from TNS are always from seasons that could've done more.
I think the most egregious example is S4's deleted scene of James and Piper. Both siblings are feeling down about the events of 4A, and to lift their spirits, they dance to Luther Brown's choreography from Season 2. The scene is so heartwarming and adds a lot more to the sibling dynamic, and it honestly baffles me as to why it was deleted. Like it couldn't replace a Ralfie scene or Nomanda or 0% Club or-
Season 8B was quite a downgrade from 8A and that's mainly because we don't feel connected to the new A-Troupe. Ebby's brief storyline of her being National Soloist started off strong with her desire to perform her Acro Fusion on the National stage. However, she's long forgotten about until Nationals were it was kinda half-assed. It would've been so much greater if these deleted scenes of Richelle and Ebby bonding over their solos were included in the season as it would've done so much for her character.
I would start by explaining Season 7's deleted scenes, but that whole season was toxic romances and character derailment.

KENZIE AND EBBY IN THE NEXT STEP SEASON 8 EPISODE 8 - MY PHILOSOPHY
I didn't realize Ebby looked up to me like this. What kind of leader do I wanna be? Someone who falls in line with conventions? Or someone who encourages dancers to express themselves and be proud of who they are? Maybe, the Dance Captain Diary doesn't have all the answers after all.

Made the mistake of watching the video introducing the new cast member for next season right before dinner last night and literally couldn't sit still for like an hour.
I finished eating and immediately got up and basically just did toe presses/raises on my mom's thick foam standing desk pad and stimmed until all the excited energy finally passed. (also bounced my leg under the table the entire time I had to be seated)

TNS SEASON 9 LAST 3 EPISODES WERE ABSOLUTELY INSANE I CANT
okay so pascal and heath have sorted themselves out yay thank god finally i love them so much and heath is the sweetest little button man ever
ANTHONY AND ADELE KISSED!!! took them long enough jesus christ. i want more kissing season 1 and 2 everyone was going at it we had love PENTAGONS i want more of that. the fact that anthony thought putting the team first meant not having feelings for anyone in the team lol love that guy
i didn't really get the competition this time shouldn't france have been knocked out after they lost the solos? and what would've happened if it was between tns and australia or something how would that have worked. i get shooting competitions is probably difficult and it's easier like this but i was not a fan.
why did my baby jett do literally nothing this episode?? she just danced there was absolutely no storyline involving her at all.
ethan going to paris with the french guy omg. THE HAND THING AT THE END I CANT. it was the cutest little thing if we don't hear about them dating next season i WILL cry
ngl kenzie needs to go. she's been there TOO LONG now go on tour babe.
why was ebby being made alternate brushed over so quickly?? i kind of get why but not really. and the team just didn't really talk about it, all the discussion there was was who's gonna replace her no one thought to check on her
michelle and eldon buying the studio??? i'm confused are they together or what we've litch come full circle. i think it would be good if they were more involved though, it would feel more like season 1 were the studio head and choreographers actually did something they can't have michelle and eldon there and not use them like that.
oh and MISS KATE IS BACK WHAT

Charley Pride, a legend in the country music industry, died today in Dallas, Texas of complications from Covid-19 at age 86.
Born a sharecropper’s son in Sledge, Mississippi, on March 18, 1934, Pride emerged from Southern cotton fields to become country music’s first Black superstar and the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Pride is one of only three African-Americans to have that honor (the others are DeFord Bailey and Darius Rucker). He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.
“No person of color had ever done what he has done,” said Darius Rucker in the PBS American Masters film Charley Pride: I’m Just Me.
When Pride was 14, his mother purchased his first guitar and he taught himself to play. He loved music, but one of Pride’s lifelong dreams was to become a professional baseball player. In 1952, he pitched for the Memphis Red Six of the Negro American League. In 1953, he signed a contract with the Boise Yankees, the farm of the New York Yankees. During that season, an injury impacted his fastball, and he was traded to the Birmingham Black Barons.
Ultimately, his musical talent was more impressive than his pitching arm or his hitting skills, and he emerged as one of the most significant artists at RCA Records.

Between 1967 and 1987, Pride delivered 52 Top 10 country hits, won Grammy awards, and became RCA Records’ top-selling country artist. His musicality opened minds and superseded prejudice.
Pride’s chart-topping hits included “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” and “Mountain of Love.” He won the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award in 1971, and the top male vocalist prize in 1971 and 1972, repectively.
His final performance came on November 11 of this year when he sang “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’” during the CMA Awards show at Nashville’s Music City Center with Jimmie Allen, a modern-day hitmaker who counts Pride among his heroes.
“We’re not color blind yet, but we’ve advanced a few paces along the path and I like to think I’ve contributed something to that process,” Pride wrote in his memoir.
Charley Pride was the husband of Ebby Rozene Cohran Pride. His children are Carlton Kraig Pride, Charles Dion Pride, and Angela Rozene Pride. His grandchildren are Carlton Kraig Pride, Jr., Malachi Pride, Syler Pride, Ebby Pride, and Arrentino Vassar. His two great-grandchildren are Skyler Pride and Carlton Kraig Pride, III. He also leaves behind siblings Harmon Pride, Stephen Pride, Catherine Sanders, and Maxine Pride, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Pride Scholarship at Jesuit College Preparatory School, St. Philips School and Community Center, The Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.

The Housing Slowdown Is Here—and These 10 Cities Are Getting Hit Hardest
heyenge/iStock
Is the party really over?
Over the last decade, the seemingly unstoppable growth of the American housing market has created a bonanza for sellers, a cutthroat environment for buyers, and an endless source of fascination for just about everyone else.
It seemed to be an economic perpetual-motion machine. Could home prices in top markets really just keep going up and up … and up?
Well, no, actually. In the last few months, the real estate market has actually begun slowing down—including in some of the big cities that have been leading the go-go post-recession housing boom.
What does it all mean?
We decided to explore beyond the alarmist headlines to find the 10 metropolitan areas* that are seeing the biggest shifts—and why.
To be clear, prices aren’t always dropping in these places, which are predominantly located on the West Coast. Mostly, they’re decelerating, coming back down to earth. So bargain hunters can put their wallets away.
But in addition to a substantial increase in the number of home listings with price reductions, we found other potentially game-changing signs of market adjustments, including a surge in the amount of inventory for sale and the number of days on the market.
Here are the brass tacks: List prices only rose 7.3% nationally year-over-year in October.
While that’s certainly higher than most raises in compensation, inflation, and buyers’ comfort levels, it’s still less than the 10% annual hike the year before and the 8.2% jump the year before that.
Focus on the small victories, buyers! These markdowns can lead to more choices for those looking to purchase a home. And sellers, you’re still making bank.
Metros seeing the biggest slowdowns
Tony Frenzel
“There’s a rebalancing that needs to happen,” says Len Kiefer, deputy chief economist at Freddie Mac. “Prices have risen so high in some of these markets that it’s very tough from an affordability perspective [for buyers]. … It’s not surprising to me that we’re seeing a little bit of a leveling off.”
So stash the B-word, at least for now: The dreaded Housing Bubble isn’t poised to pop. There are simply more homes for sale now and fewer buyers vying for them. In other words, the market is returning to some semblance of reality.
“Are we going off the cliff?” says Honolulu-area real estate broker George Krischke of Hawaii Living. “I don’t have a crystal ball, but I don’t think so. … It’s a temporary slowdown and may be a plateau.”
To come up with our rankings of the real estate markets that are slowing down the most, we looked at annual price, inventory, days on market, and price reduction changes from October 2017 to 2018 in our realtor.com® listings in the 100 largest metros.
Let’s take a look:
Market  Median list price Change in list price* Change in inventory*  Listings with price reductions* 1. Stockton, CA $397,050  +3.4% +34.7 +299.2% 2. San Jose, CA $1,099,050  -0.1% +129.9% +110.6% 3. San Francisco, CA $899,050   0.0% +41.7% +56.3% 4. Nashville, TN $350,045  -2.5% +32.0% +22.5% 5. San Diego, CA $659,400  +1.4% +41.1% +28.5% 6. Oxnard, CA $685,000  -2.1% +15.0% +31.4% 7. Honolulu, HI $692,550  -0.4% +21.5% +25.0% 8. Dallas, TX $335,050  -1.4% +15.5% +14.0% 9. Seattle, WA $555,050  +12.1% +59.8% +36.2% 10. Portland, OR $455,050  +1.1% +22.1% +11.8% *Year-over-year changes between October 2017 to October 2018 Source: realtor.com listing data
So why are these housing markets slowing down?
1. Mortgage rate increases are sidelining buyers
Unless buyers are paying all cash for their digs—not a likely scenario for most of us ordinary humans—they are probably smarting from rising mortgage interest rates. That’s because even the smallest rate hikes of just fractions of a percentage point can add hundreds of dollars to monthly mortgage payments. Over the life of a 30-year loan, it can add tens of thousands of dollars.
Here’s what’s going on: Mortgage interest rates went up from 3.90% a year ago to 4.81% as of last week. That seemingly small 0.91% increase made mortgage payments $127 a month more expensive on median-priced homes of $295,000. It adds extra payments totaling $45,540 over the life of a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, assuming that the buyers put 20% down. And of course, the more expensive the property, the more new homeowners will be forking over.
This is having an impact, real estate experts say. These increases are forcing some buyers to purchase cheaper, smaller homes and fixer-uppers in less sought-after locales. And it’s led many aspiring homeowners to go into standby mode—waiting to see whether prices will drop to make the whole thing more financially viable. With less competition come fewer bidding wars, and more inventory that isn’t being snatched up within an hour of the “For Sale” sign going up in the front yard.
Borrowers are facing a little “sticker shock,” says Julie Aragon, a mortgage broker at Julie Aragon Lending Team in Santa Monica, CA, who works with buyers from San Diego, No. 5 on our list, and Oxnard, CA, No. 6. “They just don’t realize how much [rates] went up. Even an eighth to a quarter of a percentage point increase is going to make a big impact.”
That’s particularly true in high-priced areas like the Southern California city of San Diego, where the median price of $659,400 is more than double the national figure.
“I’ve seen people lose $50,000 in purchasing power,” Aragon says. And that’s giving buyers pause.
Higher rates are also stymieing move-up buyers who want to trade their starter homes for larger, nicer homes, but are reluctant to give up their existing low mortgage rates to do so, says Ted Wilson of Residential Strategies, a housing consultant based in the Dallas area.
The reality is that rates are still low compared to previous decades, when double-digit rates weren’t uncommon.
“Folks have been used to a world of dirt-cheap mortgage rates,” says Freddie Mac’s Kiefer. “We’re moving to a world where rates are more in line with what we’d expect to see over the long term.”
2. Prices just got too damn high
Fact is, prices can’t increase at record levels forever. And we may have finally hit an inflection point in many bellwether markets.
“To some degree, the markets that went up the most and the fastest just pushed too hard [in prices],” says Patrick Carlisle, chief market analyst for Silicon Valley and the Bay Area at the real estate company Compass. “Over the summer, it was like something cracked, and people said ‘I can’t do this anymore.'”
In Silicon Valley’s San Jose metro area, No. 2 in our rankings, prices shot up a whopping 22.2% from 2016 to 2017. And this was already one of the nation’s most expensive places to live. But even hefty tech salaries can only stretch so far.
Add in those higher mortgage rates, and “that’s a whole lot more money that someone is going to have to spend to pay their monthly mortgage on a 1,500-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch house that suddenly costs $2 million,” says Carlisle.
So is it any big surprise that about 36.8% of San Jose-area sellers have had to slash prices on their homes in the last year?
President Donald Trump‘s tax changes have also hit Silicon Valley and the Bay Area hard. (San Francisco comes in at No. 3 on our list.) Homeowners can now only deduct from their taxes mortgage interest on loans of up to $750,000, down from $1 million. This isn’t just a rich person’s problem—it’s hard to find even a modest starter home for less than $1 million in this region.
Then add in a new $10,000 cap on property and either sales or income taxes. Suddenly, owning a home is a whole lot more expensive.
The entire West Coast, long the growth capital of the United States, is showing signs of being overheated. “For everyone, there’s a maximum to what they can pay,” says Annie Radecki, senior manager at John Burns Real Estate Consulting, who covers Seattle and Portland.
3. Sellers want to cash in while they can—leading to more homes for sale
More and more homeowners, fearing that the real estate market has reached its peak, are champing at the bit to sell. And that has led to a relative glut of available homes—more than even the hottest markets can easily absorb.
“There’s a perception [among owners] that the market has had a good run and maybe it’s time to cash in,” says Honolulu broker Krischke. “The good times have to end.”
In Stockton, CA, which came in first in our slowdown rankings, price drops are common because sellers shot too high, says local agent Jerry Patterson of Cornerstone Real Estate Group. This is a city that has long been plagued by crime and poverty. But its location, about an hour and a half northeast of Silicon Valley and close to the vineyards in Lodi, CA, gave it a boost in recent years, with annual prices rising 8.2% last year and 14.3% in the prior year.
But with more homes for sale and less competition for them, “buyers are now in a bit more of a power position,” Patterson says. “[They’re] able to flex their muscles a little bit more.”
And sellers are learning the hard way that the danger of pricing their homes too high is that they can wind up stagnating on the market. “They’re entering what we call the ‘sludge,'” says Nashville real estate broker Brian Copeland, of Doorbell Real Estate. “There’s nothing wrong with their house. But that price becomes a stigma.”
4. New construction booms benefit buyers—but slow down sales
New construction in certain markets has given buyers more options—but developers may have overshot their goals, often to accommodate corporate growth. Just look at Nashville, TN, No. 4 on our list, where a new Amazon center is slated for location, and Dallas, No. 8, which has added more than 500,000 jobs in the last decade. About a third of Nashville-area home listings on realtor.com® and a quarter of Dallas-area listings are for brand-new homes.
In Dallas, “There’s more inventory than there is demand,” says Dallas-area Realtor Dee Evans of Ebby Halliday Realtors. But she’s beginning to see the pace of new construction slowing, and those extra units are being absorbed by buyers. “Hopefully, the builders will be smart about putting less new stuff up.”
* A metropolitan statistical area is a designation that includes the urban core of a city and the surrounding smaller towns and cities.
* Lance Lambert ran the data analysis on which this story is based.

SPOILERS FOR EPISODES 20, 21 AND 22 OF SEASON 9
Remember when I said that Episode 14 was the worst of the season? I still mean it is but there were parts of these Internationals episodes that made me compare to that atrocious episode or Season 7. There are definitely good aspects of it (Anthony and Adele, fan favourites returning, Freya's song, the outfits) but overall could've been better.
1) Internationals...at home
I could already sense that Internationals would be underwhelming since we were staying at home but seeing it in real time was just worse. I don't know how it could've been salvaged but I don't like how they handle it. Everything and everyone is at TNS so Internationals feels very local. There's no tension or suspense in the competition because we don't see other countries dancing whatsoever.
Twists or revelations aren't given time to be dramatic or shocking because everything is cramped together. For example, Ebby is made the alternate because she recorded the Internationals duet (accidently) but she only reacts in her talking head. No one on A-Troupe reacts to this either and Ebby is subsequently ignored for the rest of the episode. I also feel like everyone's storylines weren't wrapped up properly.
2) Grace
I remember starting Season 9 and thinking Grace's motivations for trying to take down TNS were ridiculous but as time went on, I just accepted it and credited Grace for her unfaltering determination. And with her plans succeeding more than failing allowed me to respect her as a ridiculous yet amusing antagonist. Even at Internationals, she's still plotting and scheming. Sorry, I meant was because the TNS writers decided to give her a redemption arc. WHY? Even after screwing with Ariana at Internationals, she looks so satisfied with herself...until suddenly she's not.
Apparently, Grace is secretly jealous of Ariana because she's all alone and Ariana has friends and a girlfriend. Redeeming Grace this late is just cheap. I know she's still a child but she's just so much more dynamic and entertaining when she's being evil. Even when she double crosses Maria, I'm just sitting there thinking, "I wonder what song Maria had chosen for A-Troupe."
I guess she realised that after spending time with Maria, she would be her future self if she continued scheming, but Grace's guilt wasn't highlighted enough throughout the whole season. Outside Internationals, the only moment I can think of is when Daisy glares at her during her audition. No build up=no pay off, and I wasn't for it.
3) The ending
Okay, this IS the worst part of Internationals. Eldon and Michelle walk up to Nick and claim they want to buy the studio. Together. Yes, that's right, they FORCED Theldon to break up so Micheldon could return to the open arms of no one.
It's so insulting on so many levels it's infuriating. Last time we saw Michelle and Eldon together, Michelle claims that, "Their time has passed." Until it hasn't for convenience. These 2 haven't shown romantic interest in each other for a decade until the TNS writers decide Micheldon should be endgame. Not to mention the egregious claim of having "Emily's blessing". Last time I checked Michelle, Emily is your wife and Emily wouldn't be in an open relationship. There's no reason for Michelle to be romantically attracted to a bum like Eldon. Last time I checked, he broke up with you after losing a dance battle and ghosting you. And you can't even make the argument that he's matured because a month ago, he was bullying children because his girlfriend broke up with him. No one wanted this and I'm honestly baffled by how tone deaf the TNS writers are.
Like, who's side should I be on? As much as I love Nick, he is practically a wallet due to his absurd neglect of the studio and practically forced Kenzie to be studio head whilst being a teenager. Rival that with immature man child and his god-like girlfriend. No thanks.
In summary, they could've done better and I'm really disappointed overall. The season started off with a lot of promise but the second half depleted in quality and that cliffhanger ending makes me strictly against a Season 10. Now why would I (or anyone) want to see Michelle and Eldon in love, running the studio?

TNS Marching Band AU
So last year I thought about writing a college marching band AU but I didn't get beyond sorting every A-Trouper into sections. Pre-Season 7 my brothers helped because those are the seasons I can watch on the TV, and my brothers are band kids through and through. New characters for seasons 7-9 are probably less accurate since I was assigning them on my own.
Section leaders above the cut, rest of the sections below.
Michelle-head of music (clarinet) Emily-head of marching (flute) Noah-drum major (bass clarinet)
Thalia-clarinet Kenzie-flute Piper-alto sax West-tenor sax (+bass clarinets) Daniel-trumpet James-percussion (quads/tenor) Riley-trombone (+baritones) Eldon-tuba (+horns)
Clarinets Chloe Cassie Skylar Ozzy Heather Heath Daisy Dylan
Flutes Stephanie Tiffany Jacquie Lola Kingston (hangs out with the saxes) Ethan Niall Olive
Alto Saxes Cierra Henry Zara Summer Izzy
Tenor Saxes and Bass Clarinets Giselle-tenor sax Davis-tenor sax Jett-tenor sax Anthony-bass clarinet Adele-bass clarinet
Trumpets Alfie Richelle Elliot Lily Cleo Presley (yes, I know she was never officially on A-Troupe, work with me) Ebby Grace
Percussion Luke-snare Theo-bass John-snare
Trombones and Baritones Hunter-trombone Sloane-trombone Finn-trombone Jude-trombone Ariana-trombone Amanda-baritone Ella-baritone Josh-baritone
Tubas and Horns LaTroy-tuba Amy-horn Pete-horn Xander-horn
