I don't know what modern fandom's obsession is with making characters look their age because the cast's ages didn't particularly matter before. First James with the whole "his struggles can only be appreciated by the Mature(tm) Crowd" thing and now this.

Besides, people mostly thought Angela was older than she actually was because of Donna Burke's voice.

Why is mistaking her for an older person inherently a problem in need of fixing, especially if the whole point is to show us how trauma prematurely ages people? If it gets folks to think about the effects of trauma on the body, then the design is doing what it's intended to do.

What does giving Angela a baby face accomplish? Why does she particularly need to "look her age"? Really think about this. Think about the message that sends, that teens who "look older" than they actually are don't elicit as much compassion out of us.

yes. because sexual frustration was a major underlying theme of James' journey through Silent Hill. sick wife meant no boom boom and James' cognitive dissonance manifested itself in the form of Maria.

this isn't a case of dudebros getting mad because you censored their anime D-cups. Some thematic resonance legitimately becomes lost if you tone down the sexualization.

Potentially, such a change sends the unfortunate message that women who dress provocatively aren't worth the same amount of protection as women who dress modestly. Everyone hated Maria turning part of the game into an escort mission, sure, but turning her into a doe-eyed ingenue in order to make us more inclined to want to protect her ain't it, chief.

Maria reflects Mary's character. Sanding her down to make her uwu and cutesy inadvertently erodes Mary's less pleasant characteristics (she notes in her letter that she lashed out at everyone after her diagnosis, not just James), which risks turning her into a palatable victim.

Are we really surprised? Bloober Team aren't exactly known for their subtlety. If they can make the rebirth symbolism more overt by implying Mary has been reborn via the power of James' kokoro, they'll do it.

okay but this comment becomes extremely dicey within the context of horror games. the other way in which women are often sexualized in survival horror is if they're being subjected to violence. particularly sexual violence.

while it's true that Maria suffered violence in the original, that violence had a narrative and character-related purpose of attempting to make James realize his crime. it wasn't gratuitous or intended to be titillating.

we didn't see the blood James saw when Pyramid Head stabbed Maria at the elevator, which apparently is now considered a creative compromise Team Silent had to make despite their "original" intent to be gratuitous. somehow. don't ask me how that logic works.

In light of the recent The Fairly Oddparents reboot (or uh continuation I guess), I've been reminded of the original series a lot. I've always loved the original for its slapstick cynical-ish humor and fast-paced writing. I love the dynamic the characters have in the show (before they added Sparky the dog and Chloe..., that era felt off), especially the bond between Timmy and his fairly oddparents.

I like that Timmy is such a sassy protagonist lmao. His character is such a mix between a kid trying his best in life, chaotic child, a smart and stupid person simultaneously. He is definitely one of the more endearingly frustrating protagonists I've ever encountered in media. Such a hellion and smart rascal. I still laugh that his first reaction to meeting Cosmo and Wanda is to call the cops. He knows stranger danger at least.

In the earlier seasons, the worldbuilding is quite strong and whole, covering both Timmy's quite lonely life and the Fairy World. But as the show progresses, I noticed they shifted the worldbuilding more towards the Fairy World than the human world.

Which makes Timmy seem so..., isolated from his human relationships and has a more intimate bond and knowledge of the Fairy World. In the later seasons, they focus a lot on Timmy being quite a unique godkid than the others and previous ones that Cosmo and Wanda ever had. (Like being one of the Worst Godkids Ever TM, that was hilarious lmao, the Wishology trilogy..., helping Cosmo and Wanda overcome the no fairy kid ban by wishing they had a child, does that mean Poof has three parents instead of two????, how does that whole fiasco work???, and etc; I need to rewatch the show, this list is long.)

I know that not all episodes are perfect in terms of writing. Nonetheless, this show has quite some dark and melancholic themes/vibes for me; due to the major reason of a child getting a fairy godparent is to have a miserable existence. (which implies a lot for the kids who do have fairy godparents) Not all of it is doom and gloom though; as the show has a really creative way of showing that there's still light despite the lonely and dark circumstances that you're stuck with. (except that one episode where Timmy wished he was never born...; that was dark as hell for me lol)

I really love that some episodes show that Timmy does play and spends a lot of time with Cosmo and Wanda when he doesn't have his friends to play with or when his parents left him for the hundredth time lol. (in the later seasons he spends time with Cosmo and Wanda A LOT) It really cements the idea on how much he loves Cosmo and Wanda as they're the parents who stepped up in his life.

Which makes it even sadder when you know that once the kid is old enough, they will not be able to see their fairy godparents anymore. It makes me sad just thinking that once you're older you forget the only beings that you've ever trusted your life with...

Alas, if it were me, I would just let Timmy have access to his adopted parents. If the show wants to make it fair to the other godkids, just implement the concept that an adult can't make wishes (I mean they already have that in Da Rules). I just want Timmy to live with the parents who care and love for him...

With the new reboot, I don't think they care on their previous protagonist's fate. So, I will just cry in a corner about this. At least the original show is still there.

Let the new generation enjoy the new iteration of this series. We all have our own preferences.

About the sketches; I actually wanted to draw Timmy with his found family but I had a hard time with trying to make it look right? You can see that I'm struggling a lot to find the right way to draw four characters hugging together lol.

I got frustrated, so I'm sharing the sketches even though I know it won't be liked much. I noticed there's not a lot of art of Timmy with his found family, so I've decided to just fuck it, we ball. I want to see Timmy being loved by his found family okay. We artists have the power for that... with varying skills unfortunately...

I will get it right... after multiple practices... For now, I just want to reminisce and share my frustration sketches on Timmy and his found family. 🥹🥹🥹🫶🫶🫶

Also, I can't decide which artstyle I should draw the concept I wanted in... Plus, in the middle of brainstorming, I attempted to design Timmy if he were a teenager. I know the show has shown many times on how he will look like as a teen, so I should probably rework on these for a while...

what are your oc sides like? =0 that sounds cool

ahh okay so I initially made them for a tiktok audio that was like "show off your own sides!" the audio only had logic, creativity, morality, and anxiety, so that's the ones I did (although tbh I'll probably change that at some point cause I feel like that doesn't properly encompass my personality). I'm just gonna go in order and give a brief summary of each of them!

Logic-- Alex. I picked their name because it's a more "typical" gender neutral name, as well as being a reference to the Library of Alexandria! their color is yellow because in Delsarte color theory, yellow represents intelligence (and also it's my favorite color lol). they like reading and learning, particularly about math and physics, and they are super competitive and love trivia games! they also love the stars and are quite fond of plants and nature, despite the fact that they can't keep a houseplant alive lol. Alex also is the one who likes baking (after all, it's just chemistry) and they love music and podcasts as well! they're probably the best at communicating and dealing with emotions, despite their function not really having anything to do with emotion.

Creativity-- Rosalie James or RJ! their name is comprised of two names that are both associated heavily with a binary gender, because I love the idea of two names with contradicting gender associations. also, they're just Extra tm like that. their color is blue, because blue is a color with lots of different symbolism depending on how it's used, and it's a color with a lot of energy and feeling! RJ is cheerful, dramatic, and flighty, but underneath that they're one of the cleverest people around. they're close friends with Alex, who often gets roped in to working on projects with them.

Morality-- East. it's sort of a pun off of "moral compass", since east is a cardinal direction, plus it's a noun name! their color is orange, which in Delsarte color theory is a combination of intelligence and emotion. that ties in well to their character-- they're a very empathetic person who cares about other people a lot, but they're also a loud driving force for change. East considers themself to be a punk, mostly in terms of ideology but they also love the fashion and the music. they want to help people however they can and make life better for everyone. East isn't super close with the others, because despite being so empathetic they aren't much of a people person, but they care about the others a lot.

Anxiety-- Tempo. their name has less symbolism behind it, I just chose it from a list of names that I like, but it originally came from the Elsewhere University tumblr, which I feel like fits them. (EU is a story about a college that more or less exists in between the human and fae realms, and as such most students don't make it through unless they're very clever and careful, which is very much Tempo.) "Tempo" is also a music term. their color is red, which is commonly associated with emotion and danger, and fits well with them more or less being the emotional center. they're very cautious and don't really like people, and they're also pretty bad at communicating, despite being the most closely tied to emotion. it takes a lot to earn their trust, but if you do, they're a true friend.

my hair looks awesome (it's blue and green at the moment and i love it), and so do my eyes (very pale blue/grey that looks just a tad otherworldly, i used to call them demon-coloured because they would always reflect bright red on photographs (seriously, i have no nice pictures of little cas) but now i'm embracing the fairy lol)

i'm queer, which isn't necessarily a positive or negative trait but i do love it because it defines me so deeply

finally, i'm always trying to improve :D

i could probably keep listing stuff (my self-image is very positive right now you picked a good time) but this is a good start i think lol

Growing Up - How do you feel about growing older?

i don't mind the thought! as previously mentioned, i'm baby, so i have a lot of growing older to do—but growing up is something i'm very excited to be doing (growing as a person, finishing school, being at university, finding my place in this wonderfully chaotic world) and since growing older is a side effect of it i'm not displeased :D

Putting Others First - How many times did you cry during this episode?

once, right after finishing it—though i teared up at "i thought i was your hero" and "how many times can someone say they're sorry before you have to admit that they're just bad for you?"

altogether this episode was So Important though and even though i was never a supporter of the "bad thoughts = bad person" stance it had a lot of stuff i really needed to hear

Eyeshadow - What's your favorite band?

at the moment, the amazing devil!!! it has big fae vibes and as a faekin (/j) i'm very big on that, also the lyrics are so raw and good (my recs: farewell wanderlust, fair, battle cries, elsa's song, little miss why so), but currently i have the album lungs by f+tm on repeat, and i've always been weak for mcr because look deep down i'm still 14 and emo :')
