howdy!
i've finally decided to start posting some of my writings, and i uploaded my first tmnt fic onto ao3 :) i figured i'd leave the link here 'n then post a snippet along with it under the cut!
The winter weather from upstairs on the surface has finally settled into their home, and the stark difference in temperature sends a violent chill down Donatello's spine. The space heaters and heat lamps he’s salvaged and enhanced from various junkyards around Manhattan apparently can’t compete with the freezing cold. He was welcoming a cool breeze just a minute ago, and now he's freezing. Classic inability to regulate body temperature and maintain homeostasis strikes again.
As he makes his way down into the kitchen, he catches the familiar blue glow of their TV tower from in the family room. If he focuses hard enough, he can feel the oddly comforting presence of static in the dry air. Now completely sidetracked from his original mission, he quietly shuffles into the living room, approaching the couch and its occupant from behind.
At this angle and in this dim lighting, it'd be hard to tell any of them apart – especially without their color-coded masks – but Donnie knows which brother this is. His eyes move past the back of his brother's head to focus on the TV. A girl with blonde hair in a spiky updo argues animatedly with a frighteningly bad puppet of a black cat.
Donnie watches for a moment longer before breaking the near-silence.
"Whatcha watchin'?" He mumbles hoarsely.
The turtle on the couch all but jumps out of his shell, breath catching in his throat before whipping around to glare at Donnie.
"Jesus fuckin' Christ, Don," Raphael hisses, hand over his chest like a faint southern belle. "I nearly punched you on instinct! Th’shell is the matter with you, sneakin' up on me in the middle of the night?"
Donnie ignores his grumbling and narrows his eyes at the TV.
"Are you watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch?" He asks, a little incredulously.
"Yeah, I–" Raph turns back to look at the TV. "It-it was the only thing on, I–whatever, it doesn't matter."
Donnie leans forward against the back of the couch. Raph turns the volume down another click and glances back up at him.
"What're you doin' up so late, anyway?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"I asked first, brainiac."
"Mind if I join you?"

TMNT OC COMP S2: Round 1A
Info under the cut!
Alexander:
made by @theoneandonlyneonleon
promo:
info:
Alex lived up in Manhattan, with his parents and sister. When his dad died, his mom moved back to Italy to be with family, but Alex didn't want to leave New York, so he moved in with his Aunt in the Bronx.
Kairi Fablestone:
made by @luminaartanddrawings
info:
Haven’t fully fleshed out her story yet, but her father went missing under unknown circumstances when she was alone in his apartment as a very young selkie. The Hidden city police declared his disappearance a cold case by the time she was 7 years old.
Not a lot of foster parents were willing to raise a child that looks more human than yokai. Those that do tend to see her as an exotic pet, or a convenient extra pair of hands to help them raise other foster kids. Some of them get easily annoyed by her being too loud or not doing things right. One even said they would hide her seal coat from her forever if she doesn’t behave.
Which caused Kairi to grow up with the fear of failure & as a very soft spoken person. (So she sometimes has to repeat herself because no one could hear her.) It also unintentionally made her good at stealth.
At the age of 13, the current yokais fostering her decided that she was old enough to get a job & to teach her to be independent. So they got her to work at an old friend’s place as a favour. Kairi was Big Mama’s gofer seeing as she is quite inexperienced in the working industry. A few weeks later she also became an assistant medic for the doctors of the nexus fighters, after inadvertently showing her capability to assess injuries so quickly. Even the ones that can’t be seen by the naked eye. She can’t use this specific mystic ability too often, otherwise she’ll get eye strain.
When the turtles & April befriended her, she became their insider for any useful info the boys might need for missions involving Big Mama. Like stolen mystic artifacts in her possession, or important events planned by her. (Which took some time & encouragement to convince her in the first place.)

Synopsis: In Gotham City, Batman finds Ra's al Ghul and they talk about Bane's invasion of the TMNT Universe. As Ra's seems interested to help them fight his wannabe usurper, he hands Batman a component to build a multiversal machine similar to the one that had Donatello and Bane swap places and realities.
Underground, Donatello and Robin are riding motorcycles at high speed to find Mr. Freeze, who's planning an "ice age" spanning through the Multiverse. With his usual arrogance, Robin doesn't listen to Donatello and slips on the ice, causing both bikes to break. As Freeze gets his Ice Cannon ready to shoot, he's stopped by Robin's Batarangs, thrown from a "Bat-sled" promptly created by Donnie with the vehicles' parts. Freeze and his men are defeated and Robin finds another component for the multiversal machine in the villain's device.
At Wayne Enterprises, Lucius Fox, though concerned about the multiversal machine's functionalities, states that it's ready. Batgirl is tasked with keeping Gotham safe and to open the portal for one minute every 24 hours, not to let in uninvited foes from the other reality. Robin is skeptical they'll be able to find Bane that easily, but Batman knows how his enemy doesn't care for hiding his power.
As Batman, Robin and Donatello cross the multiversal machine, they find a New York City in flames, meaning that Bane has taken control of it.
In a bar in the Lower East Side, one of the few remaining Foot Clan Soldiers who haven't turned to Bane yet informs his masters, Rocksteady and Bebop, that the war is lost and Bane is there to see that they kneel as well. The two gangsters can't believe that man alone turned the whole clan on his side, but as they exit the bar they see Bane and the Foot Soldiers waiting for them: they have no other chance than to yield.
In the sewers, Raphael and Leonardo are carrying Michelangelo to the Turtle Lair as he sprained his ankle and is making a big deal of it. Behind them, April and Casey follow. As they enter the Lair, they find Batman, Robin and Donatello waiting for them. The brothers are happy to see Donnie is fine, but Raphael gets angry with him as he's informed that he's the cause of the whole Bane situation. Splinter comes to calm him down, and salutes Batman. Everyone is up to date with the current events, so April says she has tracked Bane's movements for the whole week he's been fighting his way to power. Watching the footage, Batman realizes Bane's reserve of Venom is running low, so he won't be able to keep the havoc up for too long.
In Bane's throne room, Rocksteady and Bebop return from a successful mission: they were tasked by Bane to find the scientist Baxter Stockman, who was trying to leave the city. Bane hands him a vial containing a sample of Venom, which the doctor will have to fabricate as it doesn't exist in this universe. As Stockman asks how many people does Bane plan to use it on, Bane answers: "We'll start with all of Manhattan".

Sega Mega Drive - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Return of the Shredder (The Hyperstone Heist)
Title: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Return of the Shredder / T.M.N.T. リターン オブ ザ シュレッダー
Developer/Publisher: Konami
Release date: 22 December 1992
Catalogue No.: T-95013
Genre: Fighting Action
The gameplay of Return of the Shredder or The Hyperstone Heist as it’s known in the West is heavily based on the second Ninja Turtles arcade game, Turtles in Time, which was also released for the Super Famicom / SNES during the same year. The controls are similar to Turtles in Time, but the ability to dash is now assigned to a specific button and the player can no longer throw enemies towards the screen.
There are a total of five stages ("New York City", "A Mysterious Ghost Ship", "Shredder's Hideout", "The Gauntlet", and "The Final Shell Shock"), which comprise a combination of new levels created specifically for this game and ones based on levels from the first arcade game and Turtles in Time.
The bosses include Leatherhead, Rocksteady (having an attack pattern similar to the one that he had in the first arcade game), Tatsu (Shredder's right-hand man from the first two live-action films, who also appeared in TMNT: Manhattan Missions), Baxter Stockman (in his human form like in the first arcade game), Krang and Super Shredder.
Return of the Shredder is considered a good adaptation of the TMNT show into game form. Compared to Turtles in Time, Return of the Shredder features fewer but longer levels, has fewer special effects, louder and somewhat raspy digitized voices, and loud sound effects. Thanks to the superior color palette of the SNES, Turtles in Time looks brighter and more colorful and uses special zooming effects in some areas and with some moves. Still, the Genesis includes more background layers, faster and clearer animation frames, and overall faster gameplay.
Both games share nearly the same soundtrack and sound effects. Though there are fewer than half the levels in the Mega Drive game compared to the SNES game, each level is longer. Furthermore, the Mega Drive game is arguably more difficult, thanks to a more aggressive enemy AI and faster-moving characters.

Today I'm gonna play: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant In Manhattan
Big coincidence that The Last Ronin is getting a video game, and that I'm playing a TMNT game. I read the comics and I'm excited to see how they'll adapt it! After having played Transformers: Devastation by Platinum Games, I've been wanting to check their other games similar to it. This is another game that's also been taken down sadly. I chose this as I've been a TMNT fan since I was a kid (Raph being my favourite), and although I haven't really played much of their 3D games, the 2D ones are quite dear to me, with the GBA version of 2008 being my top TMNT game. I really do suggest checking it out!
I have to put this out first, the presentation in this game, although having its own original take on the turtles, is oozing with style. It feels like they've come right out of a comic book. This makes it the biggest plus point of the game. It's not my favourite rendition of TMNT, but I respect the take. Also, due to my lack of experience with TMNT 3D games, I will try to compare more towards Transformers instead, since it's made by the same studio. And I'd say it does a good amount of things better than Transformers, which released in 2015 while TMNT released in 2016. Levels are more varied in environment and you're not stuck to just one area, and you're also given some gimmicks such as a parachute to glide, which actually ends up being used to traverse in one of the stages. The latter half of the game does use the same environments again, but puts a spin on it based on the narrative. A calm night in New York in one stage, turns into blazes in another. Moving around the stages mostly feel great, especially in New York when you get to grind on rails and electric wires, run up walls and hop from rooftop to rooftop, it really puts you into the uh...''shoes'' of a ninja turtle.
The music is also fitting, and at times has caught my attention, especially the stage select themes which seemed to have changed each time I progressed. Surprisingly Masafumi Takada and Naofumi Hirada were the ones in on this project. I now get why one of the tracks I heard lowkey gave me Danganronpa vibes (I'll link it)! I think the music would be appreciated more by itself, as the game gets quite busy with sounds and visuals everywhere.
Dialogue and overall story is typical for the average TMNT experience, as one of the writers of the series worked on this. Fans will be amused, but nothing dark like some of the comics as the game is most likely aimed for a younger audience.
But that's where the pros end. I expected the game to succeed Transformers, but instead I felt like it fell flat in some places, notably the combat. You're only given two buttons to work with, a shuriken throw button, and your D-pad to use items that either heal/buff you or deal damage. The game has about 9 stages, but these controls get VERY old by the time you make it halfway through. And despite the variation in level design and the gimmicks, they're not used to its full potential when you have repetitive random missions ranging from defusing bombs, to fighting enemies, or transporting an item, you have to solve in order to ''progress'' towards being able to fight the boss. It's a bit of a strange system and ends up coming out a bit disconnected. Transformers had something similar which was solely just beating up enemies scattered throughout the map, but it was saved by its fast-paced flashy combat. TMNT on the other hand is just...sluggish, with later enemies often acting like HP sponges that take forever to beat. Not suitable for a ninja I'd say.
Some other strange instances I've noticed is when the entire team is knocked out, you have to button mash and eat pizza to regain your health, except you get a penalty for mashing too fast and have to maintain a certain pace. I'm not quite sure why the player would be penalized for wanting to continue the game when the challenge in this situation is to regain your health as fast as possible. In terms of dialogue, April acts as a guide for progression and also provides tips, which is great but...the lines all appear at the wrong time. I get told to hurry up when I'm already on the move, or to refill my items when they're already filled. I assumed they were reminders at first (which is not a bad thing), but they occurred too often for its own good. There's also an inconsistent difficulty curve throughout the game, mostly with bosses. I had a much easier time beating up Shredder compared to some previous bosses, or even mobs! I was expecting a phase 2, or something that would continue the battle.. but it was over, and I was left unfulfilled. There is also something I didn't mention with Transformers, but I have been experience it yet again with TMNT. The game seems to have pretty low specs, but my PC struggles to run it when I can run games that have higher specs than this. I've seen reviews that mentioned about optimization issues particularly with its online multiplayer mode too, so I'm assuming the PC ports are not well optimized, which is a shame.
From what I know, TMNT has a rocky experience when it comes to 3D games, as they still excel more in their 2D counterparts. Platinum has developed a decent foundation for the game, but couldn't put it to full use. Here's hoping that (if it's a 3D game) The Last Ronin can take notes from this and build upon it further, because a TMNT game with solid parkour and combat mechanics could definitely go a long way.

According to Blue, the Hidden City, and every little place attached to it, is a pocket realm. If all of the universes in this dimension were highways running parallel to one another, he explained unremarkably, to Donnie’s mounting incredulity, then the Hidden City would be a secret subway system tucked neatly underneath with about a billion lines in and out and crazy good Wi-Fi.
“That’s what Dontron says, anyway,” Blue adds. “I can at least vouch for the Wi-Fi.”
Apparently he and his brothers spent an afternoon testing this hypothesis with some of their local yokai friends.
“Dad said we weren’t allowed to go through the portals, because he’s boring and allergic to fun, but Sunita and Usagi did the smart thing and skipped getting permission from their parents in the first place,” Blue is chattering, his energy picking up with every step closer they get to whatever random corner of Manhattan he’s leading them to. “Mikey was like ‘wait, what if you get trapped in a world full of giant man-eating coconut crabs?’ which was oddly specific, and then Usagi was like ‘then I’ll have an excuse not to go to work tomorrow,’ and I think he was only like eighty-percent joking.”
“Right,” Raph says, definitely not following.
“Usagi Miyamoto?” Leo asks. A lifetime of indulging Mikey and Donnie’s longwinded rants about comic books and copolymers has prepared him for this. He’s not even struggling to keep up with Blue. “The samurai?”
“Uhh, no? Didn’t he live like a thousand years ago?” Blue turns on his heel to walk backwards so he can give Leo a judgmental look. “Usagi Yuichi. Miyamoto’s his ancestor and personal hero, though, so unless you want to hear the entire two-hour historical biography, please don’t say his name again within a two mile radius of the Hidden City. Sagi has ears like a hawk.”
Mikey can’t help smiling to himself as they hop from one rooftop to the next. Little Blue is like a different person out here. The lair really must have felt like a box he was trapped in, and now that he’s out and actually moving, now that he’s got a plan of action and he’s seeing it through, he’s able to shake off some of that stress and anxiety, or at least outrun it. He’s able to breathe.
There was a period of time when the lair felt like a box to Mikey, too. Or a tomb. When sensei died, everything that made it feel safe and warm and inviting died with him. The dojo, and Splinter’s rooms beyond it, were like an undisturbed shrine. All the tunnels and pipes seemed empty and cavernous. The silence was like a disease, creeping around infecting everything.
Mikey’s brothers started spending more and more time away. Mikey hated being there alone, so he stayed away, too. He practically moved into Woody’s apartment for almost a full calendar year. Sometimes he didn’t see his siblings for weeks at a time. He didn’t really know how to be on their team anymore. It’s no wonder he almost died on that mission none of them will talk about.
Blue stops on a ledge so abruptly that Raph collides with him, almost sending them both over the side. It’s only a quick grab on Donnie’s part that spares them a fall.
“We’re here,” Blue says cheerfully, seemingly unbothered by the holes Raph is drilling into the back of his head with his glower.
‘Here’ is an empty alleyway with absolutely nothing of note. Little Blue jumps eagerly down the fire escape to street level, undeterred. With buzzing streetlights nearby and enough light pollution from the city at large that the night sky is more gray than black, the open alley is not as secure as Blue seems to think it is. Anyone could glance out a window and spot him.
Mikey looks sidelong at his brothers, who each meet his worried expression with something amused and tolerant on their faces. Leo kills the lights with a few well-aimed throwing stars and Donnie sets free a tiny drone that will secure a tight perimeter.
“No fun being on this end, huh, chuckles?” Raph says, rubbing the top of Mikey’s head with his knuckles. “Little brothers do whatever they want, older brothers clean up the mess.”
“Ooh, ambiance,” is all Blue says about the added darkness and the faint violet glow from the drone. “I think I can open the door, but I need a boost. Maxi-Me?”
Leo sighs, but he steps forward and presses his hands flat to the kid’s carapace anyway. Mikey can sense Leo’s qi surging and cresting, meeting with Blue’s and mingling easily, like two old friends.
Those distinct markings on Blue’s body flash once, and in the dark it’s as vivid as neon lights. He draws his katana from the borrowed hilt strapped to his shell and slashes down through empty air.
A bright portal opens up, charged and electrified and spitting sparks playfully at the edges. Blue pokes his head through it immediately—all of Mikey’s brothers react to this, not just him, thank you very much—but when Raph seizes the kid’s arm and hauls him out, Blue is grinning.
“Mr Hammond, I think we’re back in business!”
“Uh-huh,” Raph says, still holding onto his arm, because the kid is visibly swaying on his feet and Raph might be the only thing keeping him upright at the moment. “Nice light show. Hypothetically, would you be a little brat about one of us carrying you the rest of the way or nah?”
“I’ve never once in my life been a brat about anything,” Blue replies gravely.
So, feeling a sense of déjà vu, Mikey helps get the kid on Raph’s back. He keeps his casted arm tucked safely between his plastron and Raph’s carapace and then swings his sword into the air like he’s leading a cavalry charge.
“Onwards and upwards, brethren! Excelsior!”
Leo reaches over and takes the sword out of his hand.
Donnie recalls his drone with a soft whistle and Mikey lingers behind so they can go through the portal together. His purple-banded brother smiles at him automatically, and doesn’t miss a beat in stringing a long arm around Mikey’s shoulders.
“Ready for whatever’s in there?” he asks.
“After Dimension X and actual outer space?” Mikey says, elbowing him in the side. “How weird could it be?”
The answer turns out to be pretty weird.
They step through the portal into what looks like a normal restaurant. In one breath, Mikey can smell fresh dough, garlic, pepperoni—it smells exactly like Rupert’s. It could have been any other upscale pizzeria in New York City, except for the fact that there isn’t a single human being to be seen.
There are insect wings, reptilian eyes, furry faces, feathered ears, tails and snouts and scales, and not a sense of uniformity about any of it. One cute little blob-shaped person is dressed in a full suit and tie, and a handful of customers with bird heads are wearing traditional kimono.
“I thought you guys were New Yorkers,” Blue says, looking sidelong at them like they’re relatives he’s embarrassed to be seen with. “Try to look a little less like tourists or we’ll get robbed blind.”
If there was any one way to snap a Manhattan native out of a stupor, that was definitely it.
“Where to?” Raph asks impatiently, like he totally wasn’t ogling the place a second ago.
The question is answered for them, by the sudden, disbelieving voice that demands, “Pepino?”
Blue’s face lights up as an angry-looking skeleton comes charging over from the other side of the dining room. He squirms until Raph rolls his eyes and lets him hop down, and then spreads both his whole and broken arm out grandly.
“Boneman! It’s so good to see you! Business looks booming, so I take it the world didn’t end, that’s great! Can I borrow your phone?”
The angry-looking skeleton only appears more incensed by the second. He grabs the kid by the shoulder and gives him a solid shake, just hard enough to rattle him but not enough to hurt, and starts in on a livid Spanish tirade that sounds like it would flay the skin off of Blue’s bones if he actually understood more than every third word of it.
“Hey—uh, hey, Señor Hueso, I know my two-hundred-and-fifteen day streak on Duolingo is extremely impressive, but you’re going to have to slow down for me a little, amigo.”
“You will sit,” Señor Hueso snaps, pointing him to a nearby booth in a threatening manner, “and you will not move or I will curse you to the chair.”
“Um, sure, but I really need your phone,” Blue replies, not sitting. His smile is fixed, but all his manic energy is finally draining away, leaving behind a homesick kid who is very very close to the finish line of a painful sprint. “I need to—my brothers are—”
“Your brothers are tearing the city apart as we speak, yes,” the skeleton replies shortly. “No one has known peace since you disappeared. Big Mama left the state indefinitely and I had half a mind to close shop and follow her example.”
He sounds testy and fed-up, but his eye sockets don’t stray from the kid for more than a second or two at a time. When he points at the booth again, Little Blue sinks into it like his legs have turned to jelly.
Mikey sits next to him, because Blue’s expression is doing something it hurts to watch.
“I will call them,” Señor Hueso says firmly. On his way toward the back of house, he gives the older turtles a passing, cursory glance, and nothing more. For once, Mikey and his brothers aren’t the oddest thing in the room.
“What’s all this, huh?” Donnie asks, teasing gently, because Blue is starting to get a little teary as he stares restlessly at the front door.
“Oh, uh—” He rubs his eyes with his good hand, his smile a wobbly, weak-kneed thing. “Uhh, I just realized I haven’t had my phone on me for the past couple days, so I definitely broke my streak. That’s all.”
“Sure,” Leo says generously, and they leave it alone.
A server in a neat uniform comes by with a tray of glasses, one of which she puts directly in Blue’s hand. She seems willing to stand there staring at him with all seven of her eyes until he drinks it, so he takes a drink.
Mikey gets the sense that Blue is a familiar face around here, and that his presence was definitely missed, even if no one seems willing to give him the satisfaction of admitting it where he can actually hear them.
When the front door flies open hard enough that it literally comes off its hinges and damages a wall, Blue is already scrambling to his feet.
He barely makes it around the table in time to catch the blur of orange and green that hurtles into him at full speed. Mikey is suddenly looking at a very young version of himself, all soft round edges and colorful paint-splotch markings, clinging to Blue like he’s the last solid thing in the world to hold onto.
It would be cute, if his Mini-Me wasn’t sobbing his little heart out. A beat later, a third turtle with an armored shell and a purple mask slams into them both.
“Hey,” Blue says, alarmed, “Angie, it’s okay, come on. You gotta breathe, kiddo.” His hands, rubbing Angie’s shuddering carapace, move to his shoulders, attempting to peel him away so Blue can look at him properly, but Angie only makes a hurt sound and presses closer, burying his beak in the crook of Blue’s neck and shoulder. “Mikey—Tello, what—?”
Mikey and his brothers move back to give them space. Raph glares at the only occupied table on this side of the dining room until they take the hint, pick up their plates, and relocate. Then they do their ninja thing, fading into the periphery without moving a muscle.
“You guys need to talk to me,” Blue is saying, his anxiety level visibly climbing with every second his siblings cling to him and cry. “Is Raph okay? Did something—”
“We thought you were dead, you idiot,” Tello cuts him off harshly, muffled since he refuses to lift his face out of Blue’s shoulder. “It’s been days, Nardo. We thought—”
“And it was my fault,” Angie blurts, his voice warbling and miserable. The words come spilling out too fast, all on top of each other. “I opened the portal to bring you back but that monster grabbed you. I c-couldn’t let him out but I couldn’t leave you behind so I thought I could make the portal go in two directions at once. It was supposed to take you someplace safe and spit him back out into the prison dimension but I did it wrong.” His breath hitches, and he can barely speak at all for how hard he’s crying. “We couldn’t find you. We looked everywhere, Leo, I swear, we—we looked everywhere. Raphie and Donnie didn’t want me to use my mystic hands again because it hurt but I tried anyway. I really—really tried. But I couldn’t find you. You were gone and it was all my fault.”
Mikey can’t see Blue’s expression, given that he’s sandwiched fully between his brothers, but he can see it when the iron shoots through his spine, when the leader inside him steps forward and everything else falls behind.
He works himself free of Angie’s octopus-armed hug, just enough that he can frame the smaller turtle’s face with his good hand. It’s tricky business, because now Tello stubbornly refuses to be budged, but Blue gets there after a minute.
“Angelo, you did send me somewhere safe. You dropped me right in front of a guy with crazy Jedi healing powers! I was exactly where I needed to be. They took care of me, see?” He wiggles his pink arm cast for emphasis. “And that portal? Incredible. Puts every single one of mine to absolute shame. I’m so beyond proud of you.”
Mikey watches Angie’s eyes well right up again, and the little guy wails, “I missed you so much! I love you, you’re my only Leo, please don’t ever go away again!”
“You don’t have to butter me up, Michael, I’m already gonna let you draw on my cast,” Blue jokes, or tries to, because his voice breaks and gives him away.
“Swear it,” Tello says venomously. His tone is cutting and the whole of him looks like he’s on the cusp of committing an act of violence if he doesn’t get what he wants in the next couple of seconds. “Or I’ll fry every microprocessor you come into contact with from now until 2055. On god, Leon—smartphones, gaming consoles, the microwave—”
“I swear! I swear, okay? No getting rid of me!” Blue plants his cheek on the top of Angie’s head, pats whatever part of Tello he can reach around his armful of little brother. “I mean, tossing me into another universe wasn’t enough, so nothing ever could be, right? We’re stuck with each other. Promise.”
Mikey lifts a hand to feel the scar on his arm.
He doesn’t really remember how he got it, and asking about it always made his brothers look so grim and full of grief that Mikey quickly learned to stop asking. But he thinks of it, secretly, only inside the safety of his head, as a good thing. It gave them all a reason to come back home.
The day that Mikey was officially discharged from the infirmary for good, his arm wrapped up meticulously from elbow to wrist to protect the stitches, Donnie led him into the living room, where Leo, Raph, April and Casey were waiting in the pit. It looked like they’d cleared out the inventory of a local Home Depot. April was brandishing a yardstick at Raph as if it was a weapon every bit as dangerous as her precious, deadly tessen. Mikey looked around at all the paints and rollers, trays and liners, the heavy-duty canvas aprons his siblings were wearing like ninja armor, and wondered if this was another one of his weird fever-dreams.
“Well?” Casey snapped, shoving a handful of swatches at him. “We’re starting in the kitchen, so pick a stupid yellow already.”
“I think I missed a meeting,” Mikey said helplessly.
“April’s idea,” Leo told him. His eyes looked dark and tired and older than they had any right to be, but they were looking right at Mikey. It had been ages since he looked right at Mikey, all of his formidable attention turned into a warm, kind thing, like a well-loved blanket. “We’re making it ours. Taking it back from the ghosts.”
It took a long time but they reclaimed their home day by day, room by room. It got easier as they went. They got better at it. Paint went on walls more evenly, conversation graduated from polite and restrained to comfortable and familiar. Mikey’s yellow kitchen is still his pride and joy. They always eat dinner together there.
Even the most painful parts of his life were ultimately good things. Mikey knows he has an appreciation for the lair now that he didn’t have when he was growing up. As a child, it was his sprawling playground, it was the place he ran to at the end of the day, and it was a given. He took it for granted, up until it was almost gone forever. He doesn’t take it for granted anymore.
Looking at Blue and his siblings now, Mikey realizes for the first time that his philosophy is not transferable.
He never wants Blue or Angie or Tello to learn the lessons Mikey had to at their age. He wants these boys to take home for granted forever. Kids should get to do that. They shouldn’t have to second-guess it. They can appreciate what they have just fine without being terrified of losing it.
When the Raphael of this dimension shows up, it’s immediately apparent why Little Blue was so bewildered by Mikey’s Raph from the jump. This kid is huge, closer to Slash in size than any of Mikey’s brothers. He freezes in the broken doorway, taking in the tableau for a moment, chest heaving. He must have run the whole way here from wherever he was when he got the call.
There’s so much in his face that it’s impossible for Mikey to pick it all apart. His arms are big enough to hold all three of his brothers at once, and that’s exactly what he does when he gets to them.
“Hi, Bossman,” Blue whispers.
“I’m mad at you,” he announces succinctly, in a voice all thick and wet with tears. “You’re grounded forever. Pops will back me up. You’re about to live a very boring life for a very long time.”
“Sorry,” Blue replies easily enough, and then his breath catches, and then he’s bawling. It was a long time coming. Mikey’s been waiting for this to happen since that first time the kid woke up in their infirmary, half out of his mind with fear and pain.
Tello and Angie extract themselves so Blue can throw both his arms as far around his red-masked brother as they’ll go. If the broken one hurts at all, he doesn’t show it. And the bigger turtle, for all that he’s physically imposing and wildly intimidating upon first glance, seems to have the heart and soul of a teddy bear. His face crumples and he scoops Blue clean off his feet, hugging him like it’s an Olympic sport and he’s going for gold.
“Sorry, Raphie,” Blue chokes out. “I’m so sorry. I made everything so hard for you and I was such an asshole and I almost got you killed.”
“First of all, watch your mouth,” the bigger turtle says—which honestly blows Mikey’s mind more than anything else that’s happened in the last three days combined. “Second of all—Leo, you’re sixteen and you’re my little brother. It’s your legal right to make my life difficult. You think Donnie hasn’t made me want to change my name and flee the country? More than once? And we both know Mikey is a feral child only pretending to understand societal norms fifty percent of the time.”
That coaxes a weak laugh out of Blue, and all of his siblings brighten a little to hear it.
“You didn’t almost get me killed,” Big Red goes on. “It was your choice to try to fix your mistake, and it was my choice to protect you. Those were good choices. Let’s blame everything else on the ones whose fault it actually was and forget about it. Okay?”
“Okay,” Blue mumbles, sounding maybe halfway convinced.
“Back on the ship, I remember you saying that being the leader was scary,” Red adds, a little more gently. “I wasn’t really myself at the time, and then a million other things happened, so I didn’t get to tell you—but I never meant to make you feel like leading the team was something you were going to have to do alone. I’m always going to be here to help. We can do it together. Anata wa hitori janai. You don’t have to be scared.”
“Don’t be scared, Michael.”
Little Blue is a good big brother, and it’s immediately obvious exactly who he learned his moves from. The evidence in front of him warms Mikey all the way down to his bones.
“Tell him the other thing,” Angie pipes up abruptly.
“I’m recording so if he denies acknowledging it later we’ll have him for self-perjury,” Tello adds. Mikey doesn’t see a camera anywhere, but somehow he doesn’t doubt that the armored turtle has one.
“Right.” Big Red sets Blue back on his feet, puts his giant hands on Blue’s slim shoulders, dwarfing them completely, and regards him with open warmth and affection for a moment. Then he says, “If you ever try to die for us again, I will kill you myself.”
“Extenuating circumstances,” Blue says weakly, wilting under the combined weight of three glares.
“Not applicable,” Tello snaps.
“And if you think Pops, April and Casey Jr don’t also have some very strongly-worded opinions about it, boy are you in for a fun surprise,” Red goes on. “There’s going to be a PowerPoint presentation.”
“You hated it when Raph saved you that way, Leon,” Angie says firmly, amber eyes level and clear now that he’s cried himself out. He’s a tough kid. Even with his face all messy from recent tears, Mikey’s Mini-Me looks ready to tear down a mountain with his bare hands to prove his point. “We hated it, too. Find another way next time.”
Next to Mikey, Raph huffs a sardonic-sounding laugh. It’s quiet and doesn’t carry farther than his own brothers when he mutters, “Try asking him to catch the moon in a cup next. He’d probably get that done faster.”
Leo gives him a dry look. “I don’t think you’re one to talk.”
“I don’t think any of us are,” Donnie puts in, not without a sort of good humor. His eyes move to Mikey, down to the scar on his arm that his siblings all hate to think about, and he says, “We wouldn’t know how to put ourselves before each other if the fate of the world depended on it.”
Mikey says, “I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Better than the alternative.”
Raph slings an arm around the top of Mikey’s carapace, as easily as if those rough, polarizing years between sixteen and eighteen never happened. “We’re adults, so we can do what we want,” he says, smiling crookedly. “Blue’s a baby, so his acts of heroism are only good for getting himself grounded, looks like.”
“He’s better off,” Leo says, coaxed into a half-smile of his own. “Maybe he’ll learn from it.”
“Considering he can, apparently, both summon his swords out of thin-air and create portals with them, I’m not sure how effective grounding will be in this universe,” Donnie replies wryly. “It barely did anything to you and you very much couldn’t teleport, Leo. It’s good of his siblings to try, though.”
“Well, as stimulating as this conversation is, the peanut gallery behind us just reminded me of something, soooo—sidebar!” Blue says loudly. “Doesn’t anyone want to know what I’ve been up to these last couple days? You’ll never guess where Mikey stuck me for safe-keeping. Go on, guess.”
Angie looks disgruntled, and Tello looks downright mutinous. Red blows out a huge sigh, but he seems more reluctantly fond than anything else. “We’ll work on it,” he says as an aside to the other two. Blue takes this as an acquiescence and sprints with it.
“I was with our cousins!” he announces brightly, sweeping his good arm in the direction of Mikey and his brothers. “Turns out Donnie was right about alternates. That corkboard wasn’t the waste of space I always claimed it was. You win this round, twinnie.”
Mikey takes that as his cue to shake off the perception-bending trick and move forward into the kids’ collective awareness again. Immediately, Angie is staring up at him with wide brown eyes, and Mikey feels his heart do something soft.
“Alternates?” Tello demands, looking like Christmas came early just for him specifically.
“Cousins?” Mikey says to Blue, raising a brow at him.
“What of it,” Blue says with a jut of his chin that Mikey clocks as Leonardo at his absolute most stubborn. “I had a dream about Gram-gram and she said just ‘cause you’re not my brothers doesn’t mean you’re not my family. Sounds right to me. So—cousins.”
“We’ve never had cousins before!” Big Red says enthusiastically, looking at Raph like he’s the coolest thing on this side of the hemisphere. An hour ago, Mikey would never have believed the word ‘adorable’ could apply to any version of his hot-headed brother, but he has since been proven completely wrong. “Welcome to the family! You have to meet everyone before you leave! And I really mean that, April will literally never forgive us if you don’t.”
“She’ll hold it against us forever!” Angie says cheerfully. “She’s the best.”
Leo steps forward and puts out his hand. “Nice to meet you,” he says politely. “I’m Donatello.”
Big Red, who had been about to eagerly shake his hand, freezes mid-step and stares at him. Angie’s mouth drops open, and Tello develops a twitch in his eye.
It’s impossible to argue with Leo’s calm, implacable expression. The kids don’t know him well enough to know that this is an act he perfected by lying right to Splinter’s face about why he and his brothers broke curfew, or went above ground when they weren’t supposed to, or absolutely destroyed the den for the second time in a week. He’d only ever let himself be less than perfect to keep his siblings out of trouble.
Mikey thinks Splinter could usually tell, but sometimes he’d let Leo have the lie anyway, his dark eyes warm with laughter that his face never gave away.
Leo at his most mischievous is a carbon-copy of their father. It’s the only ghost he keeps.
There’s a length of silence so absolute that Mikey thinks he forgets what sound even sounds like for a second. Behind him, he can sense his brothers’ amusement, none of them willing to break rank and give the game away.
Little Blue recovers first. He throws his head back and laughs, loud and delighted in a way that fills the room.
Mikey looks back at Leonardo in time to see him smile at the sound.

Wrong Place, Right Time
TMNT x (Gender Neutral) Reader (Non-romantic) Synopsis: Reader goes into an abandoned building to find their dog, and ends up finding a lot more than their dog. Rating: Teen Genre: Action/Thriller Pairings: None Content Warnings: The dog is in danger for some of it (but isn’t actually hurt) Other Tags: Funny, Combat, Short Story, Fanfiction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shredder
When you left your apartment that night, you had no way of knowing how unprepared you were for the events that would unfold. Armed with a flashlight and a roll of doggy bags you and your dog Cody had slipped out into the fresh, cool night air. You also brought a can of bear mace in case you ran into any creeps. Bear mace wouldn't have necessarily been your first choice, but it was leftover from the time you went camping and you wanted to put it to good use.
The dog was just happily sniffing around and relieving himself when he suddenly stiffened up. Following his gaze, your eyes landed on a cat. The cat was happily strutting across the street, unperturbed by the dog even as he began barking hatefully and straining against the leash. You held your grip and started pulling him back the way you had come. But he turned around, dug his heels in and managed to pull out of the collar.
The cat suddenly noticed it was in danger and darted around, looking for a place to hide. Cody followed the cat in circles around a parked car, then he chased it around the corner.
You ran after him, "Cody! Get back here!"
You were half angry, and half worried that he would run out into the street in front of a car. Instead, when you rounded the corner, he was wriggling his way into a boarded up building. His tail disappeared through the space in the boards just as you leapt forward to grab him.
"Cody! NO! Get back here, now!" You said, using your best angry parent voice.
But Cody was on a mission to find that cat. You knew that he would be single-minded until he found what he was looking for. It might have been admirable if you were coon hunting together out in the countryside, or something. Instead, it was annoying because you were on an evening walk in the middle of Manhattan.
You groaned in exasperation and looked up at the building. It was an old apartment building or something, a rough brick structure that was 5 stories high. The windows were mostly boarded up, and the ones that weren't were missing their glass. There were no lights on inside. It didn't look like anyone had been here for a long time. At least, nobody you wanted to run into...
And nobody you wanted your dog to run into either! Your protective instinct kicked in. You called through the hole to him for another 30 seconds. When he didn't reappear, you started looking around for a way in.
In the alley where you were standing, there were lots of bits of metal and you took a second to poke through them and find a good one. First you found a weird, 3-pronged dagger of some kind, which you tucked into your belt. Maybe you could use it for protection in case somebody dangerous was squatting in there. (Although, if you were being honest, you mostly kept it because you thought it looked cool.) Then you found a metal rod that seemed sturdy enough to work as a crowbar. In no time, you were squeezing through a gap you had made in the boards covering the doorway.
After clicking on your flashlight, you noticed that you were standing in an old lobby. There was a torn up spot on the floor where the front desk had obviously once been affixed. The wallpaper was peeling. The hardwood floors, which had probably been gorgeous when they were kept up, were covered in a thick layer of dust. Cobwebs were hanging in the corners and doorways, with their own gathering of dust.
You followed the sounds of Cody's feet skittering against the floors.
"Cody!" You whispered harshly, creeping towards him. If there were any questionable people around, you didn't want them hearing you guys. Luckily Cody wasn't raising hell yet, which told you that he must have lost track of the cat.
You spotted him at the end of a hallway.
"Cody, c'mere," You called, sweetly.
He looked you dead in the face and then turned and walked through a doorway into pitch black nothingness.
What. A. Brat.
Gazing down the stairway, you wanted to cry so bad. That damn dog had just run down into what must be the basement. You stood at the top, feeling sorry for yourself, trying to see down the steps. After a minute you realized that it wasn't actually pitch black. There was some kind of light that was dimly illuminating the bottom of the steps.
Gathering every last ounce of courage, you made your way down the steps. Every step creaked horribly, and with each one, you felt certain that your foot was about to sink through rotten wood. A dank smell invaded your nostrils more as you descended. How long did you have to breath black mold in before it would make you sick, anyway?
Once you reached the bottom of the stairs, you found that you were standing in a hallway. The floor here was even more dirty than the ground floor above. There was garbage piled all over the place. If anyone had ever squatted in this building, you were willing to bet that they'd done it here in this basement level.
A voice sounded from down the hallway. Your head snapped towards it in alarm, but after a few seconds it was clear it wasn't directed at you. It had come from a doorway at the very end of the hall which was slightly ajar, pale blue light spilling from it. You fought the urge to sprint back up the stairs and instead crept down the hall towards the voice. You tucked the metal rod into your belt and pulled out the strange dagger, ready to strike if someone suddenly rushed out at you. The voice was speaking again.
"...think you can defy me, turtles, but once again I've proven you wrong."
"You're not gonna get away with this, Shredder!" A second voice, female this time. She sounded scared. What were you walking into? You felt strangely numb as you continued to move forward, your heart pounding.
"I already have. Look at them! Once I have what I need, I'll dispose of you all," It was a deep, rich voice with a cold fury beneath.
"And then what? You took the mutagen out of our blood when we fought you years ago. So what could you possibly want with our blood this time?" Another male voice countered, sounding calm, but angry.
"Th-that's right! Our blood is free of mutagen, you can't use it to mutate anybody!" Another, nervous-sounding male voice agreed.
You reached the doorway and peered around the doorframe very slowly...
Within the room was some kind of makeshift laboratory. One bulb hung from the ceiling, casting the whole scene in harsh bright light. Several figures were visible in the large room. The first one that caught your attention was the huge figure in the center of the room. It looked like a man wearing a thick, heavy suit of strange armor. The armor had lots of sharp angles and spikes on it. You couldn't see anything else about him because he was silhouetted against the harshly-lit room. He was facing two figures who were lying on the floor.
One of the people on the floor was the woman. She had dark hair and eyes and was wearing a yellow jacket. Her hands were bound and she was glaring hatefully at the armored man. Next to her was another man. He wasn't talking, and he was lying very still... Was he ok? Or was he...?
You didn't finish that thought because you caught sight of four... somethings against the far wall.
They were... turtles, you guessed. But they weren't like any turtles you had ever seen. They were tall and buff with humanoid faces and bodies. Each was wearing a different colored mask, as well as various gear. They were strung up against the wall by lots and lots of chains. There was some kind of machinery connected to them, but it was hard to make out what it all was from this far away.
The spikey man- what had she called him? Shredder? He was speaking again, "I don't need to mutate anybody. All I need is your DNA, and I will have an unstoppable army."
"He's cracked, you guys," A new voice. It was gruff, and it came from the largest turtle, who was wearing a red mask.
"Oh no... I-I think I know what he's talking about!" The nervous voice was coming from the tallest one, in the purple mask, "He wants to clone us!"
"Is that true?!" The orange one finally spoke up, "Man, you can't make another Michelangelo! I'm the one and only!
"Stockman, how much longer before they're drained?" Shredder interrupted.
You nearly jumped out of your skin as an answer sounded out from very close to you.
"Another 2 hours, Mr. Shredder!"
"Why must it take so long?" Shredder asked, threateningly.
"W-well... We only had so much equipment..." Stockman defended, "I mean, there are ways of removing it faster, if you catch my drift. But if you want a clean, untainted sample, this is the best way to go!"
"Hmm... Very well." Shredder agreed after a moment.
You were now pressed against the wall just outside of the door, clutching your chest. That Stockman guy had been no more than 4 feet from you just inside the door! He was against the wall that you couldn't see, though, so you hadn't noticed him.
Stockman was talking again, more to himself, "Aw man... That cat got in again..."
A soft growling sounded from within the room. Oh god. Cody.
"What the..." Stockman started and then yelped, "HEY!"
His chair clattered to the ground as Cody's chorus of barks started up. You rushed back to the door and were frozen to the spot as you watched the scene unfold. It was utter chaos as Cody tore around the room after the cat, which was leaping around on the equipment and furniture. Cody managed to knock over 2 chairs, jump up on a table, and upset several important-looking instruments before he was caught around the neck by the monstrous man's hand. Cody's high-pitched cries snapped you out of it.
"STOP!" You hurled yourself forward. Everything in the room seemed to stop in time. All eyes settled on you and every face held surprise. Shredder's helmeted head turned towards you, observing as you sprinted toward him. You had the dagger drawn back with the intent to jam it into the metal of his stupid, shiney armor.
You didn't even feel it when he swatted you away like a fly. All you noticed was that suddenly you were flying backwards. You quickly sprung back to your feet. Your skin felt electric as adrenaline coursed through your body. There was a throbbing feeling in your face where he had struck you. The strange dagger had skittered out of your hands.
Cody was no longer in his grip, that was the good news. The bad news was that now you were getting an up close and personal look at this Shredder guy. You could see every facet of the armor from here. The most striking part was the helmet, which resembled a leering skull.
You wondered what his face looked like behind the helmet. Did he look as surprised as everyone else? His voice didn't betray any surprise, only amusement.
“Well, well, well, look what we have here... A new hero, come to save the world. Such a pity you’ll have to die."
You tried to keep your voice steady as you explained, “Look man, I don’t know what you’re talking about- I’m just here for my dog!”
"Really, turtles, is this weakling the only ally you have left?"
None of them answered. They were still staring at you and glancing at one another, like they were trying to figure out if they knew you from somewhere. This was getting awkward.
"No, really, I don't know them," You insisted.
"Is that so? Well, then, how do you explain that." He lifted one of his huge metallic arms. It took you a second to realize he was pointing at your shirt. You looked down and gasped.
Save The Turtles was emblazoned across your chest in bright green letters, complete with a cute little cartoon rendering of a turtle.
God damn it. Of course you had chosen to wear the shirt you got from that time you volunteered at the turtle sanctuary.
"Uh- that's-!"
Before you could explain it to him, Shredder cut you off, "ENOUGH! Stockman, restrain this fool."
"ME? I'm not here to be your muscle!" Stockman sounded indignant.
Shredder was just throwing out another line about how weak you looked, and that restraining you would hardly require "muscle," when you darted around him and over to the far corner where Cody was cowering. You had to climb around some equipment that seemed to be collecting blood from the turtles. You were uncomfortable being so close to them, as you had yet to discern whether they were friendly or not.
"Hey, that's my staff!"
You looked up at the turtle with the purple mask. He was peering down at you through glasses that made his eyes look 3 times bigger than they actually were.
You glared at him, "No, that's my dog!"
"No, I mean that thing on your belt!"
Was he talking about the metal rod?
"WHOA, WHOA, WHOA! DUCK, KID!" The one in the red mask was shouting.
You dropped instantly to the ground. A huge BANG! sounded from above and drywall rained down on you. There was a big piece of metal embedded in the wall where your head had just been. Cody scampered away, whimpering in fear.
"He's coming up behind you!"
You whirled around to find Shredder was advancing towards you. You glanced around for an escape, but you were boxed in by equipment.
Suddenly Shredder stopped dead in his tracks and whirled around. Stuck in his back was the dagger you had dropped. The girl in the yellow jacket was standing there, having plunged it into the battery pack on the back of his suit.
You stepped carefully out of the way of the equipment and cast around desperately for a way to help her.
"Quick! Use the staff!" The purple one called.
When you looked clueless, he clarified, "The thing on your belt!"
Oh, the rod! Great idea! You grabbed the rod, jumped on Shredder's back and started pummeling his helmeted head with the thing. This drew a chorus of complaints from the turtles.
"Aw MAN! C'mon, kid!"
"Duuuude, that's not funny! Kick his butt for real!"
Purple was fighting desperately to be heard over all the commotion. He sounded completely exasperated by this point, "No, I meant-! Press the button!"
What button? There were no buttons on the-! Oh, wait. There was a button on the rod. How had you missed that? You pressed your thumb down on small, red button. Instantly, both ends of the rod shot out, extending it by about 5 feet. In the process, it struck Shredder's helmet, launching it violently from the man's head. With a startled cry you toppled off of Shredder's back. The man rounded on you. You looked for the staff, but it had launched itself far out of reach.
"Now, I'm going to put an end to this little game," He said, and you could see the full extent of his fury on his face.
The four turtles were all shouting things and you couldn't make out any of it. All you could see was the hate in the man's eyes as he approached. His long black hair hung in his face untidily. He was panting and his lips were pulled back in an angry grimace. He looked like some kind of beast, like a lion, or like a...
"Bear!" You shouted suddenly. You tugged the bear mace out of the little pouch on your belt.
Shredder was towering over you now. He raised one of his bladed arms, poised to strike. Popping the top off, you raised the bear mace, pointed it at him, and pressed the switch.
Shredder was suddenly engulfed in a cloud of orange smoke. He roared and stumbled backwards. While he was distracted with that you scrambled to your feet. The woman was busy unlocking the chains that were trapping the turtles.
"Thanks, Angelcakes!" The one in orange said gratefully as he shrugged off all of the blood-collecting equipment.
He came over and stood next to you. You eyed him warily, but he was just looking at you with interest, "Hey, that was pretty rad how you stood up to Shredder like that! You pretty much ruled, even though you kinda-sorta... suck at fighting!"
Your pride had never been particularly tied to your fighting skills, so you just said, "Thanks. What's your name?"
"Michelangelo. But the ladies like to call me Mikey."
The two of you kept an eye on Shredder while the woman continued unlocking the turtles chains. You even sprayed a few more times in his direction when he got too close. Eventually he managed to rip the metal armor off of his hands so he could rub his burning eyes. Now he rounded on you again.
He looked truly out of his mind by this point, his blood red eyes were streaming and his face looked pinker than any face you had ever seen.
"Whoa... I think he's gonna-"
Before Mikey could finish, suddenly Shredder was charging at you. Mikey yanked you aside as someone barreled past you. The one with the red mask slammed into Shredder, colliding with him with the force of a refrigerator.
"Oh, shit! Is he ok??"
"You mean, Raphael? He's fine! He gets thrown into cars and stuff all the time," Mikey waved his hand dismissively.
Raphael rolled to his feet, pulling the dagger out of Shredder's back as he did so. He walked back to where you guys were standing, "Thanks for bringing one of my Sais, kid."
Things were kind of a blur from there. The turtles restrained the Shredder. The one with the blue mask was apparently the leader, and his name was Leonardo. He was on the phone with the chief of police. Wow... So your local police department was cool with these turtle ninjas? Who would have thought... Maybe your uncle's conspiracy theory about reptiles controlling the government wasn't totally crazy.
Donatello, the one with the purple mask, was attending to the man who had been lying on the ground when you came in. The man's name was Casey, and he wasn't dead as you had previously thought. He did have a pretty nasty concussion, though, and kept repeating the same phrases over and over (A common symptom with concussions, Donatello told you).
Don also took a look at your own injuries while he was at it. Your face was beginning to swell from where Shredder had struck you, and you would be sporting a nasty-looking bruise for a while. Other than that, you would be just fine.
After everything was said and done, and you had talked to the police, and Shredder had been loaded into an armored vehicle and hauled away, you and Cody were finally leaving to go home. You were back in the cool night air, walking your dog on his leash. You wondered if Cody would think twice about chasing a cat next time, or if the whole event had gone over his head? He definitely didn't look like he cared that he had just been in life-threatening danger.
Before you could ponder it much more, the brothers suddenly appeared around you.
"Heeeyyy, let us walk you home!" Leo offered aggressively.
"No, that's ok! You don't have to!" You really just wanted to be left alone now.
"We insist." The grin on Leo's face looked mostly threatening.
Leo threw his arm around your shoulder, as if to make sure you wouldn't run away, and started practically dragging you along.
They took you on the coolest shortcut you had ever been on. You scaled buildings and leapt across rooftops. It was just like in Assassin's Creed! Of course, they had to carry both you and Cody the whole way like a couple of carry-on bags.
When they set you down finally, you were in the alley next to your apartment building.
"Thanks guys," You said, "But how the hell did you find out where I lived?" You hadn't ever given them any directions.
"I have my ways..." Donatello said. He adjusted his glasses and they glinted dramatically like in an anime.
They were all kind of staring at you in a vaguely menacing way, "Uh... Are ya'll gonna... kill me because I know too much or something?"
"What the-! Of course not!" Donnie yelled.
"Hey, relax, buddy! We're not those kind of ninjas!" Mikey laughed, "That's not how we handle people who know too much!"
"Not any more, at least..." Raph said, narrowing his eyes at you, "The chief said it was too messy to keep covering it up."
You gulped nervously.
"Raph! Don't tell people things like that!" Leo shoved him and turned back to you, "Don't worry, he's joking. YOU'RE JOKING, RIGHT RAPH?"
"I'M JOKING. JESUS CHRIST!" Raph yelled back, "Just, don't go runnin' your mouth about us, aight?"
The leader in blue leaned in uncomfortably close to stare into your eyes, "If you say anything about us, we will come back to see you..."
"Aaaand PUNISH YOU," Mikey added, "In a gentle, non life-threatening way!"
You put up your arms defensively, "Trust me, I am not telling anyone that I fought some kind of terminator samurai to save my dog and some turtles."
You thought you saw a twitch at the corner of his mouth before he straightened up and lead his brothers away. They scaled the walls of the surrounding buildings with ease, and then they had vanished just like that.
============================
Will you ever see them again? Would you LIKE to see them again? I hope so because I have a lot of ideas for this series.
Thanks for reading, ya’ll. It’s the first story I have finished in ages and it feels good to be back.

Check out the trailer for the 13 TMNT titles and their Japanese versions, coming to PC via Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on August 30, 2022.The collection includes: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Genesis), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy).Your IP address has been temporarily blocked due to a large number of HTTP requests. Join Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection. It is most obviously a solid source of income, and a farmable one at that, but a less obvious reward is that once you accumulate around $10,000 from repeating the mission (or around 25-30 items), you will be granted unlimited sprint (there will be no indicator of this onscreen), an incredibly useful ability therefore it may be worth going out of your way to reach this threshold as soon as you possibly can! Whilst not essential for 100% completion, Burglary Missions are helpful in two ways. Follow the marker on your mini-map and you'll often reach a back alley where you'll need to park the van inside a garage. Once you've grabbed all you can, you must drive the van to a lockup to secure the goods and complete the activity. You usually have more than enough time to get most of the crates, but if for one reason or another your time is short do not risk getting caught for the last one or two things. You'll want to make sure that you move very slowly as you head out to the van. Picking up the crate forces you into standing, and therefore you are far more susceptible to making noise. You are looking for items to carry out to the van one by one these items (in the introduction mission) will be telegraphed by both a green arrow and a marker on the mini-map, as detailed in the image above. Whilst inside the house, crouching is recommended.

Diary of Soul #2
Hello. Today is Friday 31st of July, the wretched year of 2020 It’s been 2 days since my first and last “Journal entry” I spent them catching up with IDW’s run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As you could notice from my posts. It was so good that it felt like I was posting every damn page. From art style to newly introduced characters, the chemistry between Turtles and them…. It almost gives hope of unconditional socialization being possible somewhere out there…. In a fictional universe. Socialization that was engineered by a tragic accident of a mutagen bomb exploding on a large political gathering that caused all new mutated humans to stick together……….. But still.. :D Needless to say it made me go through lists of all TMNT related games, even though I was confident I played everything good (and most of bad stuff) that was associated with the green crew, I noticed one title I never heard of before. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Missions. An MS-DOS game, stamped by Konami. Judging by what I’ve seen, it’s one of the rare games that draws inspiration from comics directly, rather than any piece of media that was popular at that moment. Although art style seems weird in a bad way… And you can move only in one sidescroller plane of existence (left or right).. it has some sort of magnetic uniqueness that will make me try it out as soon as I track It down…. It’s name was awfully familiar to now renowned PlatinumGames title from 2016, Mutants of Manhattan, which was the last noticeable full fledge outing of the lean mean green machine unless you count their cameo in Injustice 2 which was the highlight of the whole game in my opinion after the sour taste new costume mechanic left in my mouth… It’s not like they had the wrong idea from the get-go, The game was suppose to have more iconic looks for each hero but that was ultimately scrapped in favor of generic costume pieces, along with all the sexy costumes and fan service for characters they were absolutely appropriate for…. I mean come on, rule 34 is still a thing. Cut those guys some slack. They already have their hands full of sexualizing the characters that don’t have anything sexy in their background… You might as well give ‘em Harley and Catwoman that they expect to see. Sheesh Anyways, back to Mutants of Manhattan… It seemed like every star aligned for this tile and yet no one’s talking about it… Well not in a positive way. Out of all reviews, one guy with an eyebrow rising title immediately stood out. “ Your Oppinion is Wrong: TMNT Mutants in Manhattan review” by GhenryPerez. I whole heartedly agreed with every point he made there as I haven’t recognized it as a bad game first time I played and I was certainly itching to replay it again…. It’s a recurring motive of society I began to recognize not too long ago. If a game gets a bad criticism, or even worse, bad score on scale of 1 to 10, 1 to 100 or 1 to 12 (if you’re French)… The game is instantly entirely dismissed as a botched job with no redeeming qualities. Which most certainly isn’t the case here. It has a wonderful art style, amazing boss battles, interesting combat mechanics, fair difficulty that you can surpass only by mastering the already mentioned mechanics, and my favorite part, All 4 turtles are on the screen at all times, regardless if you’re playing alone or online…. Online I say because, there’s no any sort of couch/split screen co-op…. Which is one of the few let downs I had about the game… The other noticeable one being a bit empty environment and repetition of same locations. There’s always something different about them, time of the day, objective etc. But it’s still the same location you already seen and been through…. But the most important thing is that this game is fun. Sure, they haven’t recorded enough lines for turtles, and they can get boring over the time, but I dare you to get to the last boss and not feel satisfaction after you finally beat it… It feels like a turtle game, it plays goo and that’s all that matters to me. It’s a game I thought of first after my comic binge (along with 2003 shows tie-in Battle Nexus), even though my favorite is still the NES one, Manhattan Project… Man…hattan…. Guess you know the winning formula for making a TMNT game now. Just put Manhattan in its title. Now I know I would cover 90’s in my next post but lets keep it as a contingency plan for days we don’t have anything to talk about. See ya in the next one. Now excuse me, i’m gonna go try to setup the 2003 game to work on my streaming bucket.
