TLW Gen Q - 3x06

Thank god I was mentally prepared for this ep. And Shane was there to mirror my facial expressions.

Now joking aside, I can tell they put a lot of efford in this creatively and I respect that. Some parts looked really fun and well done. Storywise it didn't bring me much, but since nothing was real anyway I don't really care.

Except for Sophie feeling the victim once again. Urgh. I mean, she can feel the way she does, I wouldn't fight her on that, but why do they always have to bring it because others are a lot? Yes Dani was all work-minded and Finley is a lot in general, but they never put Sophie down or mistreated her the way they made it look in this trip, so just, shut up...

(Dani looked fine in that suit though. And since she wasn't Dani at all, like Micah wasn't Micah, that kiss couldn't have been more meaningless!)

And yes it's always Gigi as in Gigi is always the solution, not the problem!! Double urgh!!

Once back to reality I did like the "I saw Dana." "You did? How is she?" That was such a sweet little moment, made me smile even.

Ps. knew it was Dana right away, but would not have recognized her without context, and honestly, didn't so with it either. People age, people change, that's all normal and okay. But in this case unfortunately it did take some of the magic away.

I really liked Alice's hair though, she looks so much better with some volume.

I think we all knew from the trailer already it was gonna be Tom. Which is fine, he's a nice guy and all. And let's be fair, there's no The One in TLW universe anyway! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sophie, Dani, Finley....it’s a classic “about to get married but you’ve been neglecting me so I cheated” storyline. Complete with an airport montage and cliffhanger. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong. I also don’t want to talk about who’s to blame, whether Sophie’s bad for caving in and sleeping with Finley, whether Finley’s bad for getting with a friend who’s engaged, whether Dani’s bad for never being there for her fiancée. They all kind of are and they’re not. It’s messy and even though it’s a trope this seemed very real (loved the sex scene, they’re laughing and crying and fighting their desire, very visceral). I just came to say, I wish Sophie and Dani had talked, is all. And I know Sophie’s supposed to be petrified because she feels guilty and maybe I’m projecting here, because if I were her I would be bursting with Words and Rage and Apologies. I just wish she’d said something like, “This is the first time you’ve said you loved me in a month.” Or she could have said, “You haven’t been present at all for this entire campaign and now you want to elope??” Or, “I don’t want you to marry me now because you have nothing else to do.” Wouldn’t even have had to be about cheating, sinced they probably didn’t want her to drop that bomb (yet).Idk. Maybe less dramatic, but Sophie still could have left for work and slept with Finley then. Maybe no airport montage, but Dani actually realising what was going on. Or screaming and crying in the bedroom and Sophie storming off. I get the narrative choices,  but I was just achinggggg for a conversation/fight. Maybe that’s just me. Not necessarily “Lack of Communication as Plot”, but these characters do strike me as people that would eventually pluck up the courage to say something.

I still worry about how flawed or messy Black women characters will be discussed in fandom. Probably another reason I'm not trying to go into these tags and see what people are saying about Sophie. Though maybe I'm giving the internet a lot of credit here in assuming fandom even acknowledges she's afro-latina lol
