I'm absolutely LIVING for the increase in luke and percy parallels, but something that's been rattling around my brain since I last listened to the lightning thief musical is that without luke, percy WOULD become him. I think that it's seeing the example of the cruelty and betrayal in luke that prevented percy from following the same path. he's horrified at how luke betrayed his friends, but luke believes he's doing it for the good of the demigods, just as percy would believe he's doing it for the good of his friends. percy is regularly disloyal to the gods by being loyal to his friends. he is saved from luke's fate simply because he came second and watched it unfold before him. I'm so sorry luke but you really are doomed by the narrative. you were always going to turn against the gods, even it it wasn't you. it had to happen.
friendly reminder that normal is a myth. everyone has issues they're dealing with. and there's a place you need to go, where you belong. where the things that make you different, are the things that make you special. special like your father, yes percy you are special. like food the colour blue, all the things that make you you, are the things that will make you strong. so be strong 🫶🫶
really though why would they cut doa records and make the waterbed store the entrance to the underworld? it should've been the other way around imo. like i remember rick admitting the movie making the hollywood sign the entrance to the underworld was a cool idea, and that worked bc it functioned similarly to the book—a record studio, hollywood, either way it's the same wink wink commentary on fame and glamour actually being a gateway to hell ('selling your soul to the devil'). sure it's cliche but at least there's a thought pattern you can follow there. that was a big part of the fun of the books, seeing the ways the real world and the mythological world blended, and in the show we're losing that. the entrance to the underworld is a goddamn waterbed store because...? no good reason.
while I'm talking about tlt musical: sick and twisted to title miss annabeth "I want to be an architect. build something that lasts" chase's solo song 'my grand plan' LIKE WTF. OUCH.
