Little big rant ahead:

I joined the fandom with the start of ww era after the previous i was in turned into a literal dumpster on fire. And while it was clear in hindsight that the golden era of the tk fandom was around 2012-2014 (maybe it can be stretched to 2015), ww era wasn't bad either. Yeah the majority of the old guard/bfn was inactive or waning their presence a lot and basically disappeared the moment the ww tour ended we still had:

- gif/edit/moodboard makers

- art makers (not a lot but a few at least!!!)

- people posting pics from other social media. Either band photos or encounters with fans. Like people were ''fighting'' to be the first to repost the band insta pics!!

- people who weren't content creators but that at least they reblogged with funny tags. No, i didn't mind seeing the same pic of brandon 7 times during my catch up scrolling if 4 of them put some kind of tags to read in them (funny/horny/roasting him), that was the enrichment!!

Then the tour ended and fandom activity shrunk to 1/10 of what it used to be. Ressurrected briefly for their appearance at glasto 2019.

Lol thais liked a post about me complaining about not wanting to post 2 gifsets i made bc the fandom was too dead and i didn't want to waste them. It's dated 3 years ago!!!

Then 2020 happened. The pandemic, their social media silence on the blm protests (the bar was literally on the floor... we only wanted a social media post giving support!!!! How come the bootlickers were all up brandon's ass about how difficult it was to rewrite a whole verse of land of the free to play on tv in 2 weeks but posting a black pic on insta tagged blm was too hard??? HOW?), the horrific situation of the roadie hazing happened in the past that resurfaced... like i don't blame anyone who didn't want to engage with the band afterwards (bc they are some good reasons!! I will never forget how they let us down! And while the hazing wasn't perpetrated by the band members it was still such a horrible situation that shouldn't have happened!)

But this was a complete mass extinction here on tumblr. Of all the fandom communities this seems the only one that died like this.

We are currently left with

- 3,5 gif makers

- maybe 2 art makers if i include myself

- maybe 2 people posting pics including myself

No consistent edit/moodboards/meme makers no consistent reposting of official pics from their socials. The like/reblog ratio on posts is 3:1 on good days and close to 4:1 or 5:1 on bad days. I wake to notes (when i get any) that are 80-90% likes. Most of the rare reblogs don't have any kind of commentary at all.

I could easily run my queue for 7-10 days just with posts i could find on my dash, almost zero effort bc i was fed content on my dash. Nowadays i need to spend hours on blogs/my drafts/my bookmarks to put something together, only for likes. It gets tiring easily with a soul and energy sucking job to do to survive only to barely get any reward (reblogs with tags to read). This community will never recover on people who refuse to use the reblog button

It's even harder to compare this fandom to the mcr one, yeah it's a quite unique situation bc having such a thriving fandom despite the band being broken up most of tumblr's life is INSANE but you can't help getting angry/sad at why did they survive but not us? I can reblog so much fanart on my sideblog!! People posting pics!! Many archivial blogs!! The gifsets!! It just feels so unfair!

ty!!!! i am afraid my tips might seem kind of obvious and not that much of a hot take but here's what worked for me:

writing sprints. do 10 min. do 17 min. do 30 min. whatever it is, just get words down on the page. after each sprint was finished i'd look at what i wrote, fix up the most glaring mistakes (espe if the words looked terrible. i've learned to live with a lot of spelling errors bc otherwise u waste too much time. during nano each day i'd prolly manage between 2-3 sprints -- usually enough to net me between 1000-1500 words each day. i wouldn't stop if i hit the daily total, i'd stop when i could feel the motivation waning. my lowest day was under 300 words, my biggest was just over 4000.

get a community. writing sucks alone. i feel very grateful that i've made some friends on here who were also trying to write regularly, so now there's 5 of us in a little discord i've made. we do sprints with each other and share lots of snippets, memes, pretty pictures etc. it keeps us excited about our own projects, but also allows us to cheerlead each other on.

get used to placeholders. i use TK. anytime there's a word i need but it's not on the tip of my tongue? TK my beloved. sometimes i'd write like she sighed in a TK kind of way, or like harry opens his mouth to argue about TK TK some work thing he's doing TK TK. it just keeps u in the pace of writing ur in, but allows for a few words to be spent writing down a piece that needs further expansion.

establish habits and goals. for me, it's stuff like trying to write the bulk of my writing with a nice candle lit, but also the silly stuff like putting on lippy so I feel like. Ready to do shit. have a few drinks avail. one to hydrate (ice cold) one to caffeinate (also ice cold). play music or sounds that will help u get into the zone without overly distracting. now that i've won it i'm gonna treat myself to some silly purchases as well bc i should reward myself for such hard work and dedication. i'm thinking a v comfy hoodie.

overall if i didn't have the community i had this month i think my external motivation would've been lost quickly, so find friends to yell at about ur project. watch yt videos about ppl doing writing! make posts and don't give a flying fuck about being cringe or not suiting ut 'aesthetic'. this is u. do it for U.

in terms of this project: the short version is hermione goes back to hogwarts post book 7 and has to slowly begin to recover from/learn to live with the PTSD she's gained. alas, draco is also back and she's gotta learn to make peace with the fact that he's allowed to want to change and that he's making small steps to become a better person than who he was. they're gonna kiss and be disgusting with each other. ultimately this is a story about hermione's journey, as the whole thing is written from her perspective, so although the dhr aspect is there, there are also other important relationships i want to focus on -- especially her and harry.

i'm ignoring/expanding on a lot of canon, and using some details from the movies i prefer over the books (namely her mudblood scar bc mmmmm parallels). i don't really know if anybody is in character but i don't care! this is my story and i'll do it how i see fit haha.

the following excerpt comes from late sept in the current draft. at this point dhr has been forced together a few times already. draco has surreptitiously managed to drug slughorn with a potion of his (slughorn's) own making during their potions class bc the potions professor was spending an entire lesson just showing off instead of. u know. teaching.

I know we joke about all of this being trailer trash. But I think even people from trailer parks can pull off better, classier looks. The outfits were wearing both of them, they weren't wearing the outfits. It looked like a Holloween party. I know that this isn't the biggest problem here by far, but I found it tragically hilarious. Although it does paint a picture doesn't it of far in it we've fallen, that she's completely morphed into her 'chracter' for this performance show or mockumentary.

First I will say, my personal aesthetic IS trash���I love it. One of my favorite memes is a Victorian lady smoking and saying “maybe I *want* to look cheap” which is very much my case. I feel very similar to Dolly who thought her towns sex worker was the most beautiful person she had ever seen after she was told that was a bad thing to be—I loath the idea that style is something to be held over others especially when socioeconomic status is ignored so cheap is my VIBE

That being said, this look is very different from what we’ve seen from Taylor at these games so far. Her hair even seemed bigger! And we all think that boyfriend Taylor is probably closer to her actual style, so this over the top femmebot look seemed to come out of nowhere

TK has funky style to begin with which I personally enjoy because it’s not boring like most sportsball playing men

And no prob—I’m glad I still have community around here that will allow me to be honest & remain active in this space 😸

First Fic: I'm Here - a 300 word ficlet about a rarepair that @blyedeeks and I came up with. I just ran with posting it and have been on ao3 ever since.

Last fic: currently posting a fic in probably favorite series that i've ever written - Breaks in Morning Light - which is fic five in my Matthew/Leon bdsm verse. It deals with chronic illness, communication and the hard work of a relationship. I really wanted to look at the way a relationship functions when absence is demanded and how those spaces remain empty or get filled. It's one of the longest fics I've written and I'm deeply proud of it.

Fic where I wrote for the fandom once: Let the Walls Break Down - a Girl Meets World Lucaya soulmate future fic. I love the concept of soulmarks that I created here and for a fic I often forget I wrote, it has a ton of reads

Favorite fic I wrote in the fandom that has the most works: Love in a Warzone which is my world war ii Stydia fic. It was the first big bang I ever participated in and I still think fondly about the experience and all the friends I made. Also love that I predicated Scott and Malia being a thing and got to put my history degree to good use.

Fic I wish more people read: The Devils Dance Outside My Doorstep aka my girl Jack Hughes fic. I love her here, her friendships and her relationship with Nico and Taylor. It's deeply personal to me as well and I wish it got more reads. Totally get why it doesn't but wish it did.

Fic I agonized over: anything in Scrawling It Forever but I remember agonizing over each word in chapter 2/3 of All This And Heaven Too. It was writing those chapters that I realized just how much of myself I was putting into the story and just how deep it was going to get.

Fic that sprang fully formed: Soaking in Promises But You Set It Alight aka my TK/NolPat demigod au that literally would not leave me alone during quarantine because I reread the entire PJO series. I wrote this in a fog but it has some of the funniest lines I've ever written

Work I'm proud of: In Tongues and Quiet Sighs - this fic was one that I wrote while I was dealing with the twin wrecking balls of long covid and burnout and as I got better, so did Leon. The character work that I did in this fic is something I'm very very proud of

Intro Post

First of all, welcome to this little hellscape. This is my first time dipping a toe into any sort of large fandom (albeit a very tiny part of that fandom), so please bear with me as I iron out any wrinkles in my writing and communication skills :)

I expect y'all will be seeing a lot of shitposts on here about characters you've probably never heard of--I've enjoyed this moral train wreck of a human being for a long time for a multitude of reasons and his noncanon family lore is just as interesting as his canon lore, in my opinion.

The principle characters you'll likely be seeing are his wife, Thalassa, and his son, Garoche Tarkin. Lady Saro, Garoche's lover, may also make an appearance or two. Jova Tarkin is a must, as well.

My thoughts on Natasi Daala are conflicted so I'll likely steer away from posts about her, but the handling of TK-421 is such absolute balderdash that I find him too funny not to post about.

I also want to note that I have taken some extreme liberties with Thalassa Tarkin specifically, to the point where I disregard pretty much all of her source material. Purists, I apologize. I just think she'd be a more interesting and complex character if she wasn't completely devoted to her husband and was maybe also a mafia boss. Assuming I update this blog with any consistency, I may explain that in time.

I've also taken liberties with Garoche solely because he has virtually no personality in the comics. Gotta fix that, don't we?

I think that about covers it. We'll see what this turns into, but for now expect a goofy meme every now and again and maybe some serious talk about how fucked up Tarkin and his whole family is.

A: Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favourite and why?

Oooh this is such a fun question. And so hard to answer! I think, at this moment in time, my favourite is When I’m Like This. It combines so many of my favourite things to write - angst, grief, smut, emotional hurt/comfort. The boys barely know each other yet, but I had so much fun writing the depth of the connection between them in a fic that would take place in season one. I also got so into it that I wrote until 3am one day, and I love it when a story just grips me like that.

L: Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?

A Helping Hand To Hold You Down! The emotions in this story are big and the scene the boys are attempting together is the first time I’ve tried to write CNC between them. It felt very important to portray this kink in the way I wanted, and have it be something that is both healthy yet delicate, something that requires a lot of trust and ongoing communication etc. Also, it involves TK using a safe word, and Carlos getting overwhelmed, and having them navigate the conversation that follows was definitely an emotional challenge! Ultimately I’m so proud of how this story turned out.

N: Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?

I’ve had two new ideas that both involve the boys going running. The first one is smutty and the second one is angsty! Very vague for now because I only had these ideas yesterday haha.
