The Greasy Pizzeria Punk Rock Vinyl Club. : : Titus Andronicus - “The Monitor” released on March 9th, 2010 by #XLRecordings. ——————————————————— XXLP477 / Vinyl / LP / Album : : Hands down one of the best indie rock records of the last ten years. #TitusAndronicus swung for the fences with this one and it paid off. Their debut LP has two or three singles with a lot of under-appreciated tracks, but this is the record that got their music played in malls and on HBO tv shows. Lots of talent in this band in any incarnation, most residing with their reluctant captain/vocalist Patrick. When it comes to individual tracks, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Still... every song fits well together and this record should be listened to all the way through, if at least once. Also featuring members of Hold Steady, Vivian Girls, and Spider Bags. Note: I’m not normally a “completist” when it comes to records, but I have almost every +@ vinyl release. NJ pride. Tonight's concert? Titus Andronicus. I can't say enough great things about this band and how special they are to me. Imagine a Punk/Indie Rawk band playing the songs of Bruce Springsteen and you've almost got the sound. Add in the Mental Health issues and the everyday struggle to carry on with a dash of historical speeches, a sprinkle of self loathing, and a large helping of triumph over your oppressors, sometimes spread out in a song that could last about 15 minutes. In A Big City by Titus Andronicus With a title like that, I really wish I was still in New York when this song came out. Alas, I was fortunate enough to hear the band play it (and some other new jams) when they opened up for Archers Of Loaf at the Music Hall of Billyburg. Pretty excited to hear how the recorded version of "Food Fight" turned out; it even got the Loaf fans dancing!  Anyways, turn it up and enjoy. Local Business comes out October 22 on XL.
