I was tagged by @saltpepperbeard and @oatmilktruther (thank you both i love u forever) to share my favourite fics that i’ve written!

Without a doubt, my favourite is absolutely The Tolling Bells. It comes from a very special place, and made me so happy to write. It’s going to be very close to my heart for a long time.

After that, it’s probably Ink and Ichor. I love how silly and romantic it is! I had so much fun writing it and didn’t anticipate how much everyone would enjoy reading it.

I also love Pass the Thread a bunch. One of my shortest, but so much fun to write. I wrote this as season 2 was airing, so I can remember the feeling really vividly.

And then my two biggest fics: One More Troubled Soul and Chasing Storms. Chasing Storms in particular is very special to me, because it was the first fanfic I ever published, and it was the fic that brought me some of my now dearest friends. It really means the world to me. 🥹💕

Backstory for "I Saw You and Sealed My Fate" please!

As noted at the top of the fic, of course, the origin story is that @tisziny made an offhand remark about Stede being in an arranged marriage with a man in a modern AU and I ran with it. This caught my eye because of the angst potential, but also because I was curious about writing a version of Stede that didn't marry Mary in a modern AU. Most modern AUs follow canon in that respect, and to me the different approach to marriage in the here and now makes both Mary and Stede seem worse for staying married; I also sometimes wonder if a modern version of him would have gotten married in the first place, being more likely to be aware of queerness in general and the possibility of not doing comphet. So I kicked off the fic with an explanation of how Stede would avoid getting married and how his parents would react to that. That this also made him sadder (because having to be with his parents all the time) was icing on the cake.

I've referred to it as the "Tristan and Isolde fic" because my original conception of it was Stede and Ed kept apart because of Hornigold, but it eventually became clear to me that what keeps them apart through most of it (besides "authorial fiat to cause as much angst as possible") is Stede's canon inability to realize Ed's into him plus his fear of rocking the boat too much at home, as well as Ed's personal insecurities.

I started writing before s2 came out and so pictured Hornigold as Brian Cox, but the text only took a tiny bit of tweaking to make it clear that he's Mark Mitchinson.

Cannot emphasize enough how much of the planning and execution of this fic was based on the thought of having as much fun as I possibly can making Ed and Stede sad. SAD MEN. You could easily write this same premise as a romcom, but I wanted it to be an angstfest.

I love the classic leathers, and he's the prettiest princess in purple, but my answer is this outfit, specifically right here. The superb fit of the breeches and how well the color complements his complexion. shirt partially untucked and open to the chest. Then him, just laying there with his legs sprawled and drinking directly from the decanter. Look me in the eye and tell me that he doesn't look thoroughly debauched and debauchable.

What can I say - I'm a slut for red and blue, and the specific hues matched in these two outfits make my brain sing. I covet the fabric of Stede's wedding outfit like burning.

So here's the thing. My hair is v. similar to the Ed wig. Long, dark, wavy, shot with silver streaks. It's v. distinctive and defining - like to the point that my college advisor would tell underclassmen to go talk to "the girl with the hair" and they would find me on that description alone (and that a high school teacher once wrote me a v. inappropriate poem entitled 'The Lady With Hair'). And I love my hair. I cut it all off several years ago to donate to Wigs 4 Kids, and while I don't regret the donation, the following few years while it grew back out were TORTURE. So I wouldn't trade it for anything. BUT, if I weren't so deeply lazy, and burdened by sensory issues, I would be serving mid-century high-femme all the times, and Stede's highly styled and shaped curls are The Dream.

It's been awhile, actually? I mean, I rarely go more than a week or two without checking back in on one specific scene or another to make sure I'm remembering it correctly before I mouth off about something here or on Discord, but it's been months since I've watched an episode from end to end. I am planning a full re-watch before the new season drops, though.

*Lucius enters and takes Stede’s attention to tell him about something. Throughout their conversation, Edward is in the background testing out the chez for sturdiness and accommodation of increasingly ridiculous sex positions. Lucius looks on over Stede’s shoulder in horror as he slowly realizes what Edward is doing*
