WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by @westealtoys thank you 💕 Currently, there is no unfinished fallen hero story. 🤔 I am going to change that soon.

BUT - The WOTR folder is full of stuff that is almost finished. So here is a small snippet of Tishlia and Daeran's life. It was supposed to be at the end of Belonging, but now it will be in the next chapter of the Act 5 series. ---- As they dressed, Daeran thought about everything he had learned in the last few hours. " Are we all supposed to call you Karrea now?"

At the sound of that name, Tishlia had to laugh, "Hell, no, I actually only hear that name in formal salutations. So I've always been called Tishlia, though mostly Lia."

She could literally see his thoughts as he stared off into nothingness while trying to close his shirt, which he had buttoned wrong. 

She approached him, corrected his mistake, closed the last button on the collar and looked him in the eyes.

"No one is the answer to your question. No one but you has ever called me Tisha."

She gave him a brief kiss. "And if I can choose, it can stay that way forever. I love how it sounds when you say it."

"My Ti - sha?" he asked tenderly.

"Yours alone."

"You know I will never let such an exclusive right be taken away from me again?"

"I would never expect you to. I'm very curious to see who will try to challenge you for the first time," she replied mischievously.

"Don't you have any pity at all for the poor fool?"

"No, not the slightest. I think I will have a lot of fun with our agreement."

"As I will with you." Happy with his newfound privilege, Daeran pulled his Tisha into a final deep kiss before they left to deliver some unexpected information to their friends and advisors. ----- Wednesday is already over for me, so I'm tagging @dujour13 and @commander-lariel (if you like) for the next Wednesday that's coming up for you.🙃

Is There a Greeting for Tisha B’Av?

It’s a trick question: on Tisha B’Av, Jews observing the day refrain from greeting one another. If someone who does not know the custom greets them, they will either simply incline their heads or answer the greeting very softly, so as not to give offense or hurt feelings. As with Yom Kippur, it is a solemn day and therefore it is inappropriate to say “Happy Tisha B’Av.” [emphasis mine]

However, there are some Hebrew words it will help to know if you attend services or interact with other Jews that day:

Tisha B’Av (tee-SHAH b’AHV) or (TISH-ah Bahv) – The Ninth of Av, on which we remember the destruction of the Temple and other disasters in Jewish history.

Av (AHV) – The eleventh month of the Jewish year.

Eicha (AY-khah) – A Hebrew word meaning “How?” it is also the name of the Book of Lamentations in the Bible.

Megillat Eicha (meh-gee-LAHT AY-khah) – the Scroll of Lamentations, which we read on Tisha B’Av.

Megillah – a scroll, especially one of the “Five Scrolls” read on certain days of the Jewish Year.

Tzom (TZOHM) – a fast. The fast for Tisha B’Av is from sunset to sunset. Those who keep the fast refrain from eating, drinking, sexual activity, anointing, wearing leather shoes, and studying Torah. It is similar to the fast for Yom Kippur. Just as on that day, children and people who are sick or pregnant should not fast.

Beit Hamikdash  (BAYT ha-mik-DAHSH) – The Holy Temple. The first Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. The second was destroyed in 70 CE by the Romans.

The Kotel  (KOH-tel) – The Western Wall, a retaining wall that is all that remains of the Second Temple. Jews do not refer to it as the “wailing wall,” but as the Western Wall or the Kotel.

Tomorrow, my school's Jewish community is having a small memorial service for October 7th. It's a day early, because we're busy people and we all just missed classes for Rosh Hashanah. It's not an official gathering - only the Jewish students have been told, and the Rabbi told us not to spread around that it's happening.

It got me thinking. Because I know I'll commemorate the anniversary this year. Probably next year, too. And the year after that. I suppose we'll just keep going. In 100, 200, 300 years we'll still be remembering.

What will we call it? Yom October 7th? I think that sounds stupid. But it'll get a name.

Eventually, there will be traditions. Perhaps similar ones to Tisha B'av. Will October 7th become the saddest day of the Jewish calendar? My guess is no. But it will be the freshest sad day - at least until the next tragedy.

Will we celebrate on October 7th, or on 23rd Tishrei? Will October 7th be a separate holiday from Simchat Torah, or will here on out Simchat Torah always have an undercurrent of sadness? I don't know.

I remember October 7th, 2023, like it was yesterday. Actually, I don't really know what I did yesterday. But I remember October 7th so clearly. I remember saying that Israel's wars were usually short - the 6 Day War, the Yom Kippur war. This one would be a month - at most. How wrong I was.

I'm a different person now than the person I was on October 6th. It's bittersweet. I'm less trusting of goyim. I've compromised a bit on my values more when it comes to consuming media. I care more about my people than I did before. I know a lot more about Jewish history. I'm willing to argue with someone about I/P - but I don't want to. I don't think I would go back to the person I was on October 6th. But I hope this is over soon.
