"the other side" from greatest showman. I can totally see Joshneku for it. Like composer Josh trying to get neku to be producer. Or pre-composer Josh trying to convince Neku to partner with him to play the reaper game. (Or even tinpin Josh trying to get Neku to start a tinpin startup with him) Or maybe even pre-game shuichi/tsugu convincing pre-game kaede to sign up.

Anon, I fell in love with that scene when I first saw it. Musical films were made for songs like "The Other Side" (although I would've loved to see it in an actual live musical too, but that's more expensive.) Side note: Zac Efron please do more musical movies like this and Hairspray.

As much as I love the drama of canon-related shenanigans, I’m partial to Joshua convincing Neku to join a Tin Pin battle tournament with him through a song. You know, like those feel-good dance competition movies, but make it Tin Pin. It doesn’t even have to Blue and Pink. It could be canon Neku minding his own goddamn business and canon Joshua popping out of the blue and dragging him to Molco.

Also, the comedy of Joshua convincing Neku that his life is boring and he sets up this grand, other world for Neku to check, and Neku’s like “hell no I already told you I don’t want to be your Conductor”... and then Neku finds out Joshua was talking about Tin Pin.

i cant get behind joshua depictions that take his composer Form and Demeanor entirely at face value like. like I’m sorry we just spent an entire week with this person, seeing all his idiosyncrasies up close and you want me to believe that this ethereal, imperceptible, unaffected, literally less-down-to-earth version of josh is more true to his personality?? i know we went through this whole reveal-unreveal-rereveal thing with him and hes very ~mysterious~ at least before the reveal and he literally doesn’t telegraph his intentions as frankly to the audience as the other characters but. neither he nor the entire narritive of twewy are that opaque you can just Think about it a little bit. And ig theres still a lot of nuance here like I dont think joshua Isnt good at keeping his composure like obvs he is esp compared to other people and he has SHOWN that hes very good at playing it close to the chest but him being above-it-all is STILL literally a facade like he is not Emotionally Untouchable.

not only do i NOT think that this is an accurate reading of the character but Because it isnt i dont see the appeal. Even exploring the fun sort of eldritch incomprehensibility that comes with his position and abilities reads as thoughtless and vapid without the Very Understandable basis of his character in humanity. sometimes I feel like people took one scene of this boy talking seriously about his day job and randomly applied that to his whole character uncritically. and then More times i feel like people assume Way more indifference or even genuine malice of someone who literally designed a game where you have to Trust people. maybe Joshua doesnt make himself easy to understand but i think TWEWY makes him pretty easy to understand like the things we are shown Mean Things. And No point of characterization or world building or symbolism that could point to him being inherently inhuman and unflappable has EVER made more (or even as much) sense as the more mundane, human explanations. Esp considering that the narrative of twewy makes him easy to understand.

i think people Really overestimate joshua's "cool, unflappable, composed (ha), non human, above-it-all" demeanor when they portray him because to be honest with you hes gotta be the least cool most flappable least composed most human FAKE above-it-all dude ever. he wants to be above it all so bad. he wants to badly to not be just a guy but he is. hes just a guy and he really thought becoming god would make him not just a guy and then he became god and still had like depression and was just lonelier but now with updated excuses (such as the oh-so-very wide gap between him and other people, which he already believed was there in life, but now even more believed in death, when he is not truly so different) to justify himself in his fresh new coat of misery, until some catboy startlingly similar to himself got character development in front of his eyes and it knocked some sense into him. (a fellow teenage dirtbag™, exactly like himself, learning to reach out and be happier, even reaching out to joshua himself, putting him as a person and a friend before shibuya when no one else had done so. suddenly he had no excuses to continue as he was.) and like. he gets pissed off. not in a godly, scary, intimidating Wrath way, but in a very normal, petty and human way. not scary at all, like when he wanted to go somewhere and neku wanted to go somewhere else and he was all, hm.... I suppose. fine. (crossed arms sprite). he makes little jokes, the ratty mc ratterson line. the spicy tuna roll line. Oh Well I Just Hate Negative People, Don't You?. he is not stoic. he has his fake, above it all sense of finding everything "amusing" which I 100% see as part of his facade, but at his most honest moments he laughs at the small, genuinely funny things. he is also not impossible to read, or impossible to upset. in several instances when talking about his backstory he falls into a visibly Different and cold state. he does the same when he offhandedly mentions that regardless of the brutality, his life in the UG (which, is referring to far more then we and neku know at the time of this line) "beats staying in the RG." He also uses that sprite upon seeing Sota and Nao erased, and becomes serious in the next few moments. He has ISSUES. He emotes. a LOT. so much that I really don't get at all why everyone seems to think hes just like, perpetual unending indifference. like....... respect to everyones interpretations but hes a thinly veiled fireball of a little dude. not only smug but like, typical youthful mischeif. he wanted to be what everyone thinks he is and he just isn't. hes not that divine concept of judgement. he's just joshua okay?

Based on things that happened with my friends. Neku gets his Spotify year review and absolutely SULKS when he find out his top genre was pop. Joshua's comes from stats from ALL of Shibuya and tinpin theme song is #1 just because of how much kids like playing the same song on repeat. Beat's is all hardcore r&b/rap, but all censored, and mixed with lofi study music because he shares an account with rhyme. Shiki's number of hours streamed rivals nekus because of all the late night sewing she does

Neku please there’s nothing wrong with loving pop music. Actually, I feel like if I met Neku irl I would side eye him so hard if/when he starts getting judgy about pop music. I actually always thought that he would be into EDM and rave-type of music so... yeah, that’s gonna be in the pop category. Sorry Neku.

Shiki is a fan of Def Märch so I imagine she’s actually the one with a lot of pop-rock music. Actually, it might even be punk-style music since Def Märch is still sort-of indie IIRC? I actually love that. Shiki playing rock music while sewing, while Neku listens to party music when he’s doing his art. (It’s okay Neku, we all love a good beat drop).

Tinpin theme song will gain Baby Shark status, I bet. It’s not just a popular kids’ song - it’s a legit tournament song, a meme, a cultural reset.

Rhyme having lots of lofi music would actually go well with Beat’s R&B songs. Rap also has a lot of wordplay! So I feel like the siblings could easily share music tastes too.

Joshua might have all of Shibuya’s music trends in his playlist, but I’m going to bet that he personally likes ballads.
