75. Revenge in the Cave
EXTENDED EDITION OFC
What's a good intro?
Fuck intro let's get to it
DON'T READ THE EPISODES UNTIL YOU'VE FINISHED THE FIRST BOOK!!
There’s a lovely scream from the cave, and Logico finally catches up to Seashell near a body. But let’s not be too sure it’s him, because there’s also recent killers Honey and Blackstone. And, finally, of course, Shadow.
LOGICO: Where were you?? SHADOW: I heard a scream. LOGICO: You were gone before that!! SHADOW: I’m a shadow.
Murder time. Shadow stumbles into a crevice and swings an object round and round, letting sparks fly as it hits the walls. Logico rolls his eye. SO annoying.
SEASHELL: Did you know that there’s a war on drugs?  LOGICO: Yes.  SEASHELL: Did you know that I am part of it? LOGICO: Guilty.
No, he’s not, Logico, be a better detective. When he goes back and stares pained at the ruins, he sees a tiny engraving on this one only - ‘SdW’. Probably stands for ‘Sid Wins’. Logi tenses. He shoulda known he’d been set up. Honey is digging bones out of the area.
HONEY: SHHH!
Why does that man exist. Anyway back in the cave where the actual murder took place, Shadow drops its magnet, which Logi can tell killed a guy. As in, Shadow did the murder. Logi shines a flashlight directly into its face.
LOGICO: I’m really sick of this. You follow me around, then trick me into following YOU around… how do I know you didn’t intend to lure ME into this cave to kill me? I trusted you, and I shouldn’t have. You were simply exploiting my grief. Now, please, for the love of god, can you take your dumb mask off? I know you don’t look like that.  SHADOW: How do you know? LOGICO: Does it matter when I’m right?
Shadow takes off its shades. Now, it has eyes.
LOGICO: For fuck’s sake, you know what I meant.
Shadow stands, shaking. It quickly removes its hat and mask, revealing a face of regret and concern. Logico stands petrified. He is in literal shock, and is probably about to vomit. After a moment of tense silence, he trembles in excitement and GLOMPS the man to the ground.
LOGICO: [unintelligible high-pitched screaming] I WON’T LET YOU!!! <3 <3  IRRATINO: Haheh… what?? LOGICO: [gico sounds]
Despite his tiny smolness, Logi is pinning Irratino to the ground, spitting buckets of tears, and VERY aggressively snuggling. The ticklish goat cannot breathe. This is very awkward for the other three suspects watching.
Logico suddenly gets all dark and solemn.
LOGICO: You lied to me. IRRATINO: …Y… would you believe it’s not what it looks like? LOGICO: It looks like you faked your death and have been building fake ruins and placing them everywhere as some kind of publicity stunt. Is THIS what you spent the million dollars on? IRRATINO: What?? No, no, Logico, please! I found these here! I would never fake the occult! LOGICO: But you would MURDER TWO PEOPLE?!? What is ACTUALLY, FUCKING WRONG WITH YOU?! My sweet, innocent, stupidly hopeless little Irratino FUCKING NEARLY KILLS HIMSELF PULLING SOME DUMB STUNT, AND THEN STALKS ME AROUND, KILLS TWO PEOPLE, AND PRETENDS LIKE HE’S SOMEONE HE’S NOT?! [deep low breath] Did you fake your murder on the island?
Tino twitches his little goat paws.
LOGICO: Answer me, now.
He tenses, then falls.
IRRATINO: It was the only way…
Logico chuckles evilly, eye in shadow. It’s REALLY creepy. Tino kneels down next to him.
IRRATINO: Logico, listen…
In one swift move, Logico leaps up and socks his sweet goat in the face, knocking him out cold, then lays sobbing at his feet as three other men stare with utmost confusion, really never knowing how to feel.
The end (of season three)!
End credits theme suggested by kirvee I didn't forget :3

Court of Darkness Consort Routes Wishlist because I have brainrot:
💐🌸💫 🧚‍♂️Sherry, my beloved🧚‍♂️💫 🌸💐
Violet, because we already have valets as consort options from most of the other kingdoms, it is a crime to not have one from Luxure of all places 😤
Thoma? I haven’t played Rio’s route yet, but people seem to like this guy, so he can come with :)
Hawke, because:
man’s got swag
occupies specific niche, as the only non royal/noble consort option. More chill in that regard, more relatable.
Would be another consort from Ira, thus increasing the utility of Integrity virtue points/items.
3a. No, I’m so fucking serious. Warning: this is about to turn into an economics rant.
Ira, Voleri, Luxure, and technically Colde(?) all have only one consort representing them. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem in all otome games, but given how CoD is set up with kingdoms, it has repercussions. Specifically, regarding CoD’s virtue system.
Unless you are invested in the one character associated with that given virtue, you have no incentive to care about that virtue. Thus, the demand for items with said virtue values is lessened, as there is limited benefit to obtaining said virtue.
Compare this to Kindness, which is the virtue associated with THREE consorts: Lynt, Tino, AND Dia. Or Charisma, associated with Guy, Jasper, and (spoiler) soon to be/already available on the Japanese server, Aquia. The marginal utility of the virtues associated with these characters are not dependent on any one consort: If you don’t care for Lynt, but you still like Dia, then you still care about gathering Kindness. If you don’t fuck with Guy, but would die for Aquia, then you’ll still want to build up Charisma.
Why does this matter? Because if Otome Romance wants to push items that’ll sell/encourage people to play, then they’ll want to make items that cater to the widest audience possible. Making an item carry Kindness as it’s virtue will benefit players on 3/13 routes (14 with Aquia). Whereas making an item with Honesty as it’s virtue will only matter to a player if they’re playing specifically Rio’s route. That’s it. Nowhere else. The value of Honesty is entirely dependent on Rio’s marketability to the player.
Less utility for a given virtue? Less demand for items carrying that virtue from audience. Less demand for said items? Less supply created. Less supply? Less investment from audience, therefore lowering the demand, thus repeating the cycle. This means Otome Romance will be far more incentivized to make items with virtues that apply to more than just one consort. Such as Charisma, Wit, Kindness, Grace. Which inadvertently fucks over the players who are maining those solo consorts.
So if you are maining Rio, Lance, Lou or Fenn? Items carrying your consort’s virtue are going to appear in-game less frequently than items with virtues that apply to a wider range of consorts.* Which makes it harder to gather said items, and in turn more difficult to raise said virtue rank. This can inadvertently discourage players from pursuing certain routes, as they are less accessible than others. If I’m torn between Lynt and Rio, but my Kindness rank has increased at a much faster rate than my Honesty rank, purely due to the higher abundance of Kindness items compared to Honesty items? I will get more out of Lynt’s route than I would Rio’s.
Personal anecdote: I don’t Main any of the Akedia consorts (no shade. Sloth just isn’t my thing. I’m too uptight). I haven’t tried AT ALL to raise my Kindness virtue. And yet, despite literally zero effort on my part, my Kindness virtue is at 240??? Meanwhile, my Integrity virtue I have been intentionally trying to raise. It’s only with the recent addition of the magician hat (that I got like, 3 hours ago?) that I have been able to break 250. Before? I was sitting at 180. And that was after putting in effort. So if actually trying got me to 180 Integrity, while not try at all got me to 240 Kindness— what gives, dude?
*note: Fenn may or may not be an exception to this, given his status as one of the Big Princes from the Opening Sequence. Nonetheless: if there were a second consort from Luxure, Allure-Virtue items would appear more frequently.
Basically—
uneven distribution of consorts throughout the kingdoms generates uneven demand for different virtues.
This demand is met with matching supply, reenforcing and exacerbating the disparity in the demand.
Big demand gets bigger, smaller demand gets more and more sidelined.
I can understand some kingdoms having two consorts while others have three. I can even understand the unique in-game situation that results in Colde only having Lou. But there is no good reason, in-game or meta-game, for Ira, Luxure, or Voleri to only have one consort option.
IMO? For a more balanced gameplay? For more engagement from the players? Add (at least) one consort for each of those aforementioned kingdoms. Increase the utility of the Integrity, Allure, and Honesty virtues. This will increase the appeal of said virtues to the audience, thus driving up gameplay.
Thank you for coming to my tedtalk.

2024-08-18: Hex 18 (Savanna)
The grasses here contain a variety of colorful wildflowers, some completely hidden except for their scent. Clusters of trees provide shade during the rainy season and shelter during the rainy season.
Notable Feature: Hazard (Swarming Insects)
Swarms of insects drift across this stretch of land like malicious dark clouds. The stench of something dead is noticeable when the wind blows just right. Each character attempting to traverse the hex must make a DC 14 DEX check. On a success, the character traverses the hex without incident. On a failure, the character traverses the hex after suffering a misfortune. Roll a d6 and consult the table below to determine what misfortune occurs to the character.
Biting insects have left you quite itchy and make sleep quite difficult. The next time you attempt to sleep, you either receive no benefits from rest (like recovering HP or spell slots) or you gain a level of exhaustion.
An insect has gotten lodged in your ear and you can hear it struggling against your eardrum. While the insect is present, concentration checks and attempts to perceive details by sound are made at disadvantage. Each day after the condition first begins, make a DC 16 CON check. On a success, the insect is dislodged and the condition ends. On a failure, the condition persists.
Persistent insects have found their way into your food stores; lose 1d6 days of rations to spoilage. If you do not have enough rations to cover the spoilage, take Dangerous (necrotic) damage as the insects burrow into your skin.
Thoughts of insects crawling underneath your clothes terrify you; every time you have a non-combat social interaction with another person in the next 24 hours, roll 1d6. On a result of 1, you feel the insects crawling on you and must respond by either removing the offending clothing or exaggerated flailing and swatting at the insects.
Blood-sucking insects have bitten you enough times to leave you with noticeably less blood; take Setback (piercing) damage.
One of the innumerable insects feasting on you carried a disease. Unless otherwise cured by magic or medicine, you are Poisoned for 3 days.
Active Campsite: Wagon Wares
A simple campsite made of three covered wagons with mosquito netting is the temporary home for three older men sitting around a fire. The men are cooking some wild game on a spit, telling stories as the meat roasts. The men are a group of traveling merchants led by Pedro Vergara, and the group sells a variety of goods. Among the wares available are books, assorted tinctures of dubious effectiveness, and liquor. Each man runs a separate business, but they all travel together for both companionship and safety. Pedro’s wagon is the one with all the alcohol, and he is a marketing representative who provides samples of new spirits to taverns in hopes that the distillery operation that employs him will get an order for his wares. Currently, Pedro is trying to lead the wagon train to get ahead of a competitor who is trying to steal the commission opportunities from Pedro’s stops.
Hidden: A Dying Wish
A skirmish between ILF and the Gate occurred here in recent days, and the ILF were the clear victors judging by the number of corpses wearing Carrowian uniforms left to rot on the ground. One of the Gate’s soldiers, a young man named Emmanuel Lavache, was wounded in the skirmish but managed to crawl to safe hiding spot before the gleaners could come to loot the dead. His wound has gone septic, and he is delirious and barely hanging on to life. When the party approaches, Emmanuel believes the party to be angels sent to help him complete his last task. He gives the party a crumpled handful of bank notes and asks that the angels deliver it to his best friend Tino who lives just northwest of Hex 18 outside the sandbox. Tino is currently dying of consumption, and Emmanuel enlisted in Carrowian military service to help Tino pay for a cure. He’s been sending over money each month to help pay off an installment loan for the treatment, but Tino still has to pay for 3 more installments after the money Emmanuel provides.
