from researching soulcalibur's old timeline as extensively as i have been these past few weeks, im realizing now that not as much has happened in soulcaliburs ii, iii, and iv as i initially thought did. some characters in soulcalibur ii's whole entire bio is just like "heres why they care about soul edge. in this game, they left their home to find it" and thats IT like they didnt do anything remarkable outside of just leaving their home village. and the rest of the games are kinda like that too. my biggest critique of the games during that span of time was that it was too short given everything that happened but like honestly i dont think thats the case anymore. you can could scii as how they began their journeys, sciii as the middle, and sciv as the end until scv happens 17 years later.

The tall man pushed the brush aside to allow Viola to cross through. There was a nice clearing ahead that would be safe to camp for the night. They weren’t always with Schwarzwind, Dumas’ men forcing them to sometimes take off in search of other safe spaces until they could have a strategic advantage against the assassins he always sent. Apparently this game is a retelling of SCI with extra stuff as starting a new timeline from the events of SCV. Soul Chronicle is the SCI mode, and Libra of Soul is the Weapon Master of the game. Somehow the protag avoided to become a malfested.

3. What is your favorite game? It’s hard to decide. SCII has a special place in my heart for nostalgic reasons (since it’s the first one I played) and I’ve sunk the most time into SCV, but I think I’d have to give it to SCIII. It had a ton of content, introduced some great new things to the series (like character creation), and is also super nostalgic for me. I remember being so excited when I booted it up on Christmas morning and saw that Nightmare’s 3P from SCII was his own character now.

5. Who is your favorite character to play as? In SCVI, Tira was my first main and she’s probably the character I’ve played as the most. Her moveset is so weird and unique and her animations are top-notch. I’ve also been playing a lot of Cervantes lately. If we’re talking about the series as a whole, I was a Sieg main back in SCIV and SCV because I’m a sucker for knight characters.

12. What is your favorite storyline? I was a big fan of Raphael’s and Amy’s Soul Chronicles from SCVI. I always liked the characters, but SCVI really made me feel for them. They pulled off his gray morality well. His desire to give her the perfect life makes him unable to give her the one thing she truly wants, which is some classic tragic irony. I also like that they fleshed out her personality and gave her some more agency. Plus, the ties to Viola and Graf Dumas are nice treats for fans of the series. I’m excited (and worried) to see how things play out for them in the new timeline.

Sound Forge is a capable multitrack audio recorder that can capture up to 32 channels at once in 64-bit, 192kHz resolution. Most parts of the window have draggable borders, although you don’t seem to be able to save window layouts. Sound Forge Pro Mac is a modest download and installation is as simple as dragging and dropping to your Applications folder, then booting and entering your serial number. What do you think of 2B being announced for Soul Calibur 6? Hopefully the fans don't rip into her for being too "out of place" like with the Star Wars crew (Yoda, Darth Vader and Starkiller). Wonder how'll she'll fit in story mode? Also, you would think 2B would have got in BBTAG sense Mori was interested in including her and 9S in.

2B or not 2B that is definitely the question, heheh!

Figure, if characters like KOS-MOS and Ashlotte (who was a favorite design of mine) are fair game... I don't see why 2B can't "be".

I wouldn't buy too much in to the connections between her and Ivy story-wise (it's just a hook gimmick after all, to spread the hype), but based on what it looks like, we'll see 2B show up in Libra of Soul, the game's quest mode, if not the Timeline mode itself.

The only thing that bothered me about Soul Calibur IV was that you couldn't use guest or boss character fighting styles in Create-A-Soul, and equipment had slot limitations (which they later fixed in SCV).

SCVI is, in my opinion at least, the best SC to date:

It has some of the best fighting elements and visuals, a really decent story, superb soundtrack and voicework (both languages), and outside of modder exploits, the game has a ton of potential going for it compared to previous games.

People have complained about Reversal Edge, but after a while, you begin to notice that certain guard-break attacks can bust right through it, and there's ways to negate it through combos or just side-step reactions.

The fatal hit system is really satisfying too.

(By the way, I just defeated two of the Ancient warriors you face in Libra after mastering a weapon style... even if you're fighting enemies several levels higher than you if you're patient you can still win.)

I think, visually, this is the best-looking Soul Calibur game I've ever played, it just feels good to watch and play.

I can only hope the DLC is even more satisfying, both in terms of play, and in terms of use (I have a good feeling you'll be able to use 2B's outfit as clothing parts, not to mention her fighting style).

As for Mori... that’s all up to him and up to his boss Kidooka... they’ll do something good I’m sure!

Characters less likely to be in the main lineup / more likely to be DLC given recent announcements: Cassandra (her popularity might still save her, but she was always meant to be a clone/replacement for Sophitia, and she’s not very story-important in SC2), Setsuka (Tira being announced as DLC makes it likely for Setsuka to be as well), Amy (she is too young at this point in the story to be a fighter, but an older/not-timeline-consistent version of her might make it in as DLC), Yun-seong (same note as Cassandra’s about being a clone/replacement applies here, but for Hwang)

Who knows: Rock (he was in Soulcalibur, but has never really been important to the story, and the SCVI roster is rapidly filling up... but also Namco has often surprise included him in games so who knows), Edge Master

(extra context: soul calibur is a sword known for possessing ‘good’, wielded canotically by siegfried for a long time. soul edge is a sword of corruption created prior to soul calibur’s creation, which caused like mass death and everything. the wielder of soul edge is called nightmare, but there is only one character who is always called nightmare, which is siegfried when he wields soul edge. so when i say nightmare i mean him. he’s the nightmare we see in every game except SCV sort of)

the reason i’m so compelled to write a c!clingyduo AU for SCV despite the fact that only like 3 people would read it & i don’t really LIKE SCV very much is because SCV is the only game with a very very concrete storyline. 

so like every game you have story modes for all the playable characters. none of them are canotical and each game has its own canon ending that leads into the next game usually based off of, like, siegfried’s story or something. HOWEVER, SCV is quirky and decided that there is only one storymode, a really long one following two characters seventeen years after SCIV. meaning like there are a bunch of characters we know jack shit about in the storyline because you can’t even play them. natsu deserved more than one line ANYWAY

SCV’s main story is based on two siblings whose mother was a character in every game except SCV since she’s dead in that game. and the whole story is about how one of the siblings, patroklos, is trying to find his sister and eventually wields soul calibur (at this point in the franchise soul calibur had become a sword associated with utopian corruption which was a stark shift from SCIII and prior as far as i’m aware but whatever) while pyrrha had essentially gotten manipulated into becoming the next nightmare and wielding soul edge. but like the whole story is basically about these two siblings finding each other and destroying both swords (which is why SCVI is the first game of the ‘new timeline’ and mimics SCI, because SCV literally fucking ended the series so they had to make a new timeline canotical via astral chaos fuckery). 

AND LIKE. it’s not perfectly c!clingyduo core it really isn’t. but. if i had to. i would make patroklos c!tubbo (which feels contradictory because c!tommy shares patroklos’ personality way more but whatever) and c!tommy would be pyrrha (which at that point i’d just have to remake the personalities entirely because no way in hell) and it would take some setting in like new l’manberg era of those two. 

it’s not perfect but thankfully i’m one of few who know the story so i’m the only one who can tell myself how wrong it is <3 anyway maybe this is a longwinded way of me saying i really want to make c!ranboo viola. like, just out of self indulgence. i have no idea who the hell siegfried or ivy would become but ZWEI can be c!fundy. which means that c!tommy fucking kills c!fundy which is only slightly amusing to me.

Stolen Valour and the Criminal Code of Canada

I have been travelling to Ottawa on a regular basis since 2011, when the Canadian Veterans Advocacy was first invited to participate with Veterans Affairs Canada stakeholder group. I was soon appalled to note that reprehensible crimes of stolen valour were being perpetrated even as we assembled on the National War Memorial at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month. 

At the poser level, -a poser being an individual who has never served yet poses as a soldier-, one incident was particularly remarkable. Readers will remember the case of an individual being interviewed prior to the National Remembrance Service wearing a CAF dress uniform and posing as a sergeant of The Royal Canadian Regiment. The individual brazenly added the Medal of Bravery to his other illegitimate medals, jump wings and pathfinders badge to complete his bogus ensemble. His false but impressive symbols of martial merit drew the attention of the national media. The consequences were immediate, starkly profound and by mid-afternoon, sharp eyed Royal Canadians had “outed” the individual as a fraud. As a result, I was invited to the CBC studio in Ottawa to do an interview on the subject of Stolen Valour for The National. Criminal charges were levied, and justice in this case was served. 

There have also been instances of deplorable embellishment, wherein yes, the individual did serve yet felt compelled to dishonestly embellish their service by adding medals, parachute wings and other unearned honorifics to their uniforms. A prominent charity and several veterans organizations were adversely impacted by such acts of fraud, with reputations being besmirched (guilt by association) and relationships being irrevocably destroyed. 

Stolen Valour Canada (SVC) emerged in 2014 as an independent, self funded, group of veterans willing to volunteer their time and military experience to provide an internet-based platform which investigates reports of alleged Stolen Valour across Canada. During the past 7 years, these veteran volunteers have exposed over three score of posers and embellishers who were exploiting national service & sacrifice in order to deceive Canadians across the nation. The accused have invariably been  provided with options.  An apology letter and the return of the medals is all that is required and many who have been exposed have availed themselves of this option, measly surrendering their fraudulent “trinkets” along with a public apology in order to escape those punitive provisions set out under the Criminal Code of Canada (section 419). For years now, SVC has provided expert advice to affected law enforcement agencies with one precedent setting conviction in 2019 resulting in a steep monetary fine and probation. A number of other cases currently remain in the cue, with criminal proceedings proceeding.

So why do these individuals do it? Why do they pose as a soldier or, in my opinion even worse worse, a soldier who embellishes their military service by adding undeserved medals, parachute wings, commendations and other trinkets? 

The SVC response line to this question is blunt: Most individuals reported to SVC  were declared to be “grifters and con artists who lie, cheat and steal for their personal gain.” Some posers have used “their Special Status to attend military ceremonies, Remembrance Day services, parades or charity sponsored galas and high profile sporting events as VIP guests.” Others have participated in fully funded commemorative pilgrimages and expeditions abroad. Some have used “fake military narratives and tales of battlefield injuries to advance their employment opportunities and political aspirations.” 

The list of motives to impersonate a soldier includes; Intimidation, theft, fraud ( which includes examples of nefariously applying for veteran/military discounts), questionable charity schemes, embezzlement and dating schemes. In one bizarre incident, the miscreant poser went so far as to claim that he had committed war crimes as a Special Forces Chief Warrant Officer, while at a presentation to six schoolchildren!  Every time this occurs, of course,  truly deserving veterans are increasingly doubted and our reputation as a unique community is blighted.  

So, how does SVC oversight work? 

First, most of the ‘poser' reports of Stolen Valour SCV receives are levied by veterans. When instances of embellishment arise, the suspect is often identified by veterans who served in the individual’s same regiments or units. Specific details are required, and if the allegations have merit, SVC conducts an investigation based "on open sources, public information, unit war diaries and timelines”. Please note that SVC has a rigorous set of Standard Operating Procedures. Research information is peer reviewed, and should the “smoking gun” or an admission of guilt be absent, the names of the suspected posers/embellishers are not published. It is also noteworthy that SVC does not have access to MPRR and depends on protocols inherent with the Access to Information Act to confirm or deny service and medal-commendation-parachute wing aberrations.

Pt. 2 [pt 1 here x]

Sleep did not come easy that night. Nightmares plagued him, terrible visions of monstrous things, of his own body being painfully rearranged, his arm grotesquely mutating into something hideous, bones cracking, reforming, and breaking through the skin, flesh tearing to reveal something more hideous underneath, his body crying out in pain but his mouth producing not a single sound. Like he was trapped and seeing out of someone else’s eyes. The desire growing for carnage and destruction. 

He awoke from his dream screaming, clutching his arm in pain as he rolled out of the bed and crashed to the floor with a resounding thud. Moments felt like an eternity as he worked to catch his breath, his chest heaving the entire time. Had it merely been a dream? It felt so real, like he could feel every twist and pull of muscle and sinew. Forcing himself to sit up, leaning against the bedside table as he did so, he glanced out at the room, lit only by the moonlight pouring in. It wasn’t even dawn yet. The whole room remained the wreck it was in when he first discovered it, unable to bring himself to clean it up first. Only the bed received any kind of attention, dusting it off and fluffing the pillows to get the years of neglect out as best he could. 

He must have spent at least an hour staring off toward the door and down the empty hall, watching and waiting for shadows to move before he finally stood. His arm still throbbed with a numbing pain, as he drew his hand back and saw the blood under his sharp nails... he dug into his own flesh as if trying to will his arm not to fall apart and become that grotesque thing once again.  ❝ It was simply a dream. Nothing more. It can’t be anything more. ❞

But it felt more like those memories he’d be assaulted with. Visceral and real. The pain wasn’t imagined, he’d felt it. Bare feet walked across the chilled floor as he explored the other rooms, noting how empty they had been, also torn apart as if someone had looked for a very specific item. It felt wrong, he was a ghost haunting his own home. Meandering from room to room leaving most everything untouched. 

Except her room.

Something glinting in the moon’s haunting glow had caught his eye. A blade? He moved, holding himself against the cold and the thought of unraveling, heading directly for the object in question. A sword, smaller than Flambert with a much wider blade. The journals had mentioned he trained her... was this her sword? Picking it up, he could feel a heaviness in his skull, words and flits of images flashing through his mind...

❝ Argh! ❞ he dropped the sword, the blade nearly missing his feet as he grasped his head trying to make the pain of the memories stop. He leaned against the wall to keep himself upright, waiting for his vision to right itself again and the torrent to stop. Two in one night... that was unusual. His connection to this place was the strongest... the most painful...

      No matter how long he had traveled, he felt like his destination, his goal, was still just as far as it ever was. He had learned so little in his time since recovering physically from his resurrection... he had a name, he knew where he was from and even a few details of his past... but so many years were missing and he still didn’t know why this Amy had been so important that her name was the only thing clear in his foggy mind. He had arrived at the village the night before and had found shelter in an empty building that had fallen on bad days. It was the first real sleep he had in some time but something didn’t sit right with him. 

     There was something nearby... that sensation he had felt before, something that resonated with him, that called out to him. Curiosity getting the better of him, he followed it at dawn, leading him just outside the limits of the city where he came upon a woman, by herself. No, she couldn’t be the source of what he felt, could she? He approached, taking cautious steps through the clearing, flinching when a twig snapped beneath his boot. So much for getting a closer look unnoticed.
