We’re excited to announce that our founder Benjamin Grant will be speaking at Nearmap NAVIG8 2022 this year! Visit navig8.nearmap.com/virtual-us/ to learn more about the event and secure your free virtual seat.
We put this video together for Nearmap NAVIG8 to highlight how the imagery from Nearmap can always be examined with an additional layer of understanding – artificial intelligence. This Timelapse shows the Westmont Rooftop Solar Project in San Pedro, California, where Nearmap was able to track not only its construction over time, but also with their AI, we can isolate and measure just how many tiles (2 million square feet!) were installed.

A dreamy night at a young urban cyber purple city. So futuristic yet so calming. THe light trail and bright lights makes the night feel like a classic 80s movie, that blanerunner, cyberpunk & sci-fi vibe.
The photo is taken on a night after heavy rain, is rather aesthetic pleasing in the eyes. Photo is taken on sony A6500, a very solid mirrorless APSC camera. The type of photography they called it timelapse, which you slow down the shutter to capture lights.

What I Saw Before The Darkness - AI Told Me
youtube
What I Saw Before The Darkness by AI Told Me shows the slow decay of an AI and the imagery it can produce as it dies. Coded to generate a human looking face, the artificial intelligence’s neurons are slowly turned off, distorting the image it produces. As each neuron is turned off “The brain constructs a different reality, but there is no one to call a bluff,”. Capturing an image after each neuron was turned off, these images were then collated into one timelapse leaving a chilling image of a face slowly losing all distinction. Features are slowly lost in the colours, the image growing more bleak and bland as each neuron is turned off. A normal looking face slowly morphs into blobs of browns and whites until eventually turning black with the death of the AI.
“Neuroscientists tell us deep neural networks are similar to the visual system in certain aspects, so this project for me is a unique opportunity to see the world changing in someone’s mind, albeit artificially.”
Quote gathered from https://futurism.com/the-byte/watch-ai-die-neural-network
This visual of the face slowly losing features is a similar type of imagery that we want to use for representing the gradual decay of memories. However, instead of just a singular image we would rather have a collage of faces that slowly morph into one another. If possible we would also have it that instead of the unrefined transition to each image, there would instead be a smooth animation of each image changing into the next.
We would likely make use of a projector to display this visual on the wall in the third room. We would either have to code an AI that generates a picture of a person or use an already existing one.

Reflection 24/03/2020: Middle Stages
Tumblr media
So, here we are in the middle stages of the FMP, or as I call it, the TFMP. Here, I’m going to reflect on what I have done so far, and what I’m going to do in the next 6 weeks. While that may not be a lot of time, I’ll do my best to do as much as possible.
Week 1 - 03/02/2020 - Start
Tumblr media
It all began with what everything starts out as... an idea. I started out doing some concept art, which is not one of my best features, but I gave it a shot anyway as I was going to have to make some at some point, because I wanted to.
Here is the concept art for my main character. The name in the top left “Darohn Terlex” is just a random name I came up with by combining multiple names together (Darren, John, Terry and Alex). I did this because I couldn’t think of a suitable name for my character who both has a male and female variant, as seen in the picture above.
But how about the actual design of it? Firstly, I chose to focus on an outfit style. I had ten in mind, five for both male and female individually. Each of them follow a different outfit (and hair style) that is worn by that, or both gender(s), excluding the headsets.
While the headset styles were wildly random ones I have thought of with no inspiration or facts, I chose to stick with the first one (Virtual Reality) as it is more realistic than the other ones. Like... have you ever seen anyone wear a headset that looks like a pair of bog-standard glasses? ...me neither.
As for colour schemes, I chose to stick with the grey, red and black one I mentioned in my Colour Schemes post. I have added those colours to the concept art, which is not a thing people normally do as concept art is mostly outlines and rough sketches. More on that in an upcoming post.
Week 2 - 10/02/2020 - Creating the character + base game logic
Tumblr media
Creating the character in Adobe Photoshop proved to be tricky at times. Mostly because I didn’t know what outfit to pick. I chose to go with the Fashion style for the male character, and a mix of Summer and Fashion for the female. I have chosen to do this because I liked both designs, but didn’t feel comfortable with using just one. That, and I felt it was more appropriate.
As you can see, in the concept art, the character is wearing boots, while in the sprites, they’re barefoot. This is because I was originally going to give them jet-boots in the game, but decided to go with a more advanced approach instead, as I’m using this time to expand upon my skills. However, that doesn’t mean I’m going to keep them barefoot. I’ll probably give them basic shoes or something, but it all depends on if I feel like it or not.
After the characters were finished, I took to the game. This allowed me to experiment with animations and sound effects. During this time, I was using placeholder sound effects that were dumped from a video game called Undertale (more info on that in posts mentioning it), which I quickly removed shortly afterwards.
Unfortunately, I came down with an dizzy illness near the end of the week, causing me to feel dreadful throughout the majority of February half-term, unable to work on anything. I recovered just before the next week started, though.
Week 3 - 23/02/2020 - Enemy intelligence
Tumblr media
What is a game without intelligence... ARTIFICIAL intelligence. Okay, granted, it is not programmed intelligence that lets a virtual being learn as things goes, it’s just hard-coded intelligence (meaning it cannot be edited without editing the source files).
During this time, I got to work on the first level of the game. While doing that, I also got to work on the parallax background (learn more about that in my 2.5D Platforming post).
Tumblr media
You can also see that I have implemented a pie chart. But not just any pie chart... a life pie chart!
Tumblr media
Basically, this pie chart is the artistic way of telling the player how many hits they can take before dying. More info on that in an upcoming post. Alongside the pie chart, there is a semi-transparent shape at the bottom of the screen with text on it. That is the game’s way of guiding you through what to do. It has been programmed to show for 6 seconds, after which it goes completely transparent, hidden from view.
You’re probably wondering how I keep track of every detail I have implemented... that is because I have been taking videos and screenshots of development! I won’t share any footage yet, but here is a picture of every video I have taken (as of 16/03/2020).
Tumblr media
As you can see, I have captured over 13 hours of footage! I actually have over 17 hours now, as some of it has been recorded recently but isn’t shown in this image. I am not uploading these raw, but I will provide a link to an unlisted playlist on YouTube with these videos in, except for #5, which dragged on for too long. I’m putting all of these raw videos into an hour long time-lapse so you can see how this game was made from the ground up if these screenshots aren’t enough for you.
Week 4 was mostly bug fixes, I’ll post a video here when I have created it, and as such this section will be edited.
Week 5 to 6 - 09/03/2020 to 16/03/2020 - Sound design and playtesting
youtube
This video goes over what program I used to create the sounds. Adding them to the game wasn’t hard, as I knew exactly how to add sounds and trigger them to play on demand at random intervals.
Tumblr media
The source code needed to play the sound isn’t hard to understand when looked at, but since I’m not posting source code online (apart from small extracts in images I’m posting here), I’m pointing out what does what, since you probably don’t understand source code anyway.
The Break... Out
As you’re probably already aware, the UK became part of a pandemic called the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, which affected over 5,000 people in less than a month. To contain the spread of the virus, all schools, colleges and universities had to shut... including mine. I picked up everything digital and stored it online via Google Drive (except for the timelapse video, which I exported then uploaded it in private to YouTube for me to download it later on so I can still edit it), YouTube and GitHub (which is a development platform that I can upload and download my source code from), seeing as we may not be back in college until the summer holidays... which would be too late to do anything.
Now that I’m stuck in my house for goodness knows how long, I can still work on my project with ease seeing as I have a powerful computer to deal with the situation, as well as having all the software I use at college, which has been made free for students by the software developers so that we can temporarily work with them during this difficult time without having to pay a penny.
Soon, I will have my time-lapse video ready, as well as a full playthrough (and download link) of the game when it is finished. Keep an eye out as I will have more development posts coming soon.

The 18 best app kits for iOS and Android
5GB storage space in the cloud is free of charge. In terms of functions, the app comes with filters, transitions and extensive video editing tools. The free basic version of Animoto Video Maker allows you to edit up to 10 clips. The app is particularly suitable for beginners, since the process of video production is largely automated with the help of artificial intelligence. If you don't have the time, you should try to find an app developer. In any case, compare different offers and check the evaluations of the applicants carefully.

So users will be able to choose their ID4me provider freely and can also switch at any time. If you want to add music, that's not a problem with Premiere Clip, of course, you just have to have the music file on your smartphone first. However, there are apps that offer an all-round carefree package, that is, they also offer music for deposit.

SiberianCMS is a little more flexible than the rest and therefore maybe worth a second look. There you can download the source code and host the editor yourself. KineMaster is a comprehensive video editing app for editing your Android videos. The Android app also comes with extensive video editing options and a wide range of functions to improve video quality. Adding transitions, texts, voice-over, etc.
The designs could be a little more exciting, but there are plenty of them Customization options.
Conversely, it is also possible to increase the tempo and thus shoot timelapse videos.
Furthermore, the video editor for mobile phones contains tools for Adjusting the playback speed, color adjustment and audio processing.
With complex projects, you will quickly reach the limits of these apps due to the mostly very limited range of functions.
The free free version is limited by some functions . li> ul> By disabling advertising pop-ups and monetization, the user experience becomes more pleasant and comfortable. odnoklassniki download video This also enables companies to take greater advantage of the hashtag challenge. ID4me is an Internet service that allows users to log in to many different Internet services with a single account. Once you've selected a video, slide the toolbox at the top of the bar and set the audio level to zero. The video editing apps from this list are ideal for making simple edits on the go. With more complex projects, you will quickly reach the limits of these apps due to the mostly very limited range of functions. However, many of these features are integrations that can be obtained from a third party. The right keywords can help an app to be found more often, which in turn increases the number of downloads and sales. App Annie tracks millions of keywords so you can get more downloads for your app and see which keywords your competitors are using. A ride-sharing vehicle designed to fix the “Uber Pool problem”
https://s3-eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/centaur-wp/designweek/prod/content/uploads/2020/03/18150817/2_QuarterCar-Interior.jpg
Industrial design studio Seymourpowell has unveiled the plans for Quarter Car, a mobility concept that aims to provide “shared transport through a personalised, autonomous travel experience”.
Jonny Culkin, a designer from the London-based studio, tells Design Week that the concept brings together a range of current themes in automotive design.
The car concept is autonomous, electric (using sustainable energy sources) and can carry up to four passengers at once.
It is also a response to shifts in consumer behaviour, Culkin says, as people show more interest in non-ownership models.
There’s also a financial incentive for ride-sharing apps to look into new transport models. At the moment “profitability isn’t even on the horizon,” Culkin says; in 2019’s second quarter, Uber lost more than £4m.
Four passengers using one vehicle at the same time could help “improve their business metrics” and fix the inefficient “Uber Pool problem” as they would be paying for the service concurrently, he adds.
Mindful of these themes, the studio went back to the “blank page” to work out how to incorporate as many as possible. Culkin says that the design team asked itself: “What’s the first vehicle going to look like that’s designed with these things in mind?”
A focus on interiors
A traditional car has been designed for a reason, Culkin says: “to move sleekly through the air”. Quarter Car looks more like a bus, but with these types of vehicles, you can “define efficiency” according to different metrics.
The focus is on interiors – “it’s designed from the inside out”, Culkin adds. By eschewing typically aerodynamic design, it focuses instead on the interiors, which are modular. Retractable walls can be divided so that passengers can sit solo, or as a pair, or in groups of three and four.
“We’re trying to make one car do the work of four or five Ubers today,” Culkin says. “We can’t keep driving around in Ubers where it’s just us and a driver.”
It also has relatively high ceilings; 1.7m compared to a Toyota Prius’ 1.4m.
Automotive AI
There is “embedded screen technology in the glazing”, allowing for visual displays on the car’s surfaces.
This technology, along with artificial intelligence brings a “contextual awareness” to the vehicle and its surroundings, which could create “experiences” for passengers, Culkin says.
A potential experience could be a personalised city tour for passengers, based on their interests – pointing out aspects of buildings with virtual reality for those interested in architecture, for instance.
It could also provide ride sharing apps with a more diverse business model. Culkin suggests a two-tiered system; a cheaper ride with advertising, and a more expensive experience without.
That advertising wouldn’t be “oppressive”, Culkin says but “contextually aware”. It could link up with a ride’s surroundings and a passenger’s interest and suggest a specific shop that the vehicle might be passing on its journey.
A car that’s also a diagnostic tool
The vehicle is electric and gives off no emissions. Ideally, it will also be run with clean energy. Culkin suggests how an energy service like Bulb, which aims to provide clean energy, could collaborate in this regard – by offering rides at higher prices for those who are willing to pay for cleaner rides.
One of the misunderstood aspects about air quality is about the “silent killer” in terms of particulates in the air, according to Culkin. Seymourpowell was interested in how Quarter Car could track the air quality in urban environments.
“If you’re going to fill a city with these vehicle, then maybe they can be diagnostic tools so they can understand air quality at all times and the Government can make appropriate measures – such as issuing warnings”, he says.
It could also use carbon capture technology to help clean the air in cities, which includes trapping carbon dioxide in the air.
Between public and private transport
Culkin, who comes from a vehicle design background, says this the Quarter Car is a “very different proposition” to a traditional car. It’s about providing a better vehicle, somewhere between public and private transport.
The idea is for the vehicle to “supplement” public transport, not replace it, Culkin says. The design is also intended to engage with idea of urban design more widely; Culkin asks whether we could build better side-walks or implement sharing practices in other modes of transport such as scooters.
And while many might agree that a greener transport system is a good idea, many designs for transport innovation remain conceptual.

Culkin puts this partly down to “regulatory” issues: “We’re coming out of a vast period of excitement about autonomy, and what we’re experiencing is a slow-down in concepts.” There are issues around safety and how autonomous vehicles could be implemented into urban environments, for example.
Through widespread sampling and prototypes, a “wider consumer perspective” will have to be adopted as a way forwards, the designer believes. Some passengers might feel nervous about getting in an autonomous vehicle and they need to be reassured.
“It requires all these things to come together – there’s no single bullet,” Culkin adds. He hopes that concept designs could engage both public and private bodies, to reassure people about the viability of these new systems of transport.
When could we see a first generation ride-sharing vehicle?

While it’s difficult to put a date to these concepts, Culkin says we could see a design like this implemented in London in a
round five years. Though “the answer works different place to place,” he adds. London, with its complicated road system, would be more difficult to navigate than cities in America which are build on a grid system.
In certain areas of London, Culkin believes we might see “pedestrianisation” and the “geo-fencing” of areas where vehicles like this could operate. “I think you’ll likely see this exist in a commercial space rather than a private sphere first because they will be able to afford the initial uptake costs.”
“But once one place cracks it, and everyone can see the benefits,” Culkin says, “that’s when everything will speed up.”
