i spoke broadly about it in this post but each of them would have much more personal conflicts and thoughts about Siffrin just…..disappearing without a word on the day of the final battle.

i was gonna talk about all of them in one post but i kept having more to say about Mirabelle. and i don’t talk about Mirabelle in depth as much as she deserves. so!

Party POV of Loop Hangout Day - MIRABELLE EDITION

we don’t see the clocktower interaction play out after Siffrin agrees to hang out with Loop, but there’s no reason to believe it goes much differently than usual without the friendquests changing things. which means this probably happens

We’ll stay with you, Mira. Siffrin says it every time this conversation happens.

Mirabelle offers them all a final opportunity to back out. she’s felt guilty, this entire time, dragging everyone along with her on a quest that feels doomed to fail, and that more than half of the party shouldn’t even really be involved with—a child, and two travelers risking their lives for a country that isn’t theirs, just because they had the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

they should be allowed to leave. she may not have a choice, but the rest of them do. so she tries to offer them this escape, even though the thought of what’s ahead fills her with dread, even if she’s terrified she was the wrong choice for something this important and may not be able to protect them, or even succeed at all. and it’s such a relief and a comfort that they all choose to stay anyway, and she doesn’t have to face the House alone. she has support, company, friends to rely on. people who believe in her even when she doesn’t believe in herself.

except when they wake up the next morning, Siffrin is nowhere to be found. not in the clocktower, not in the town. how long do they search? how long does it take them to decide this must be his real answer to the question Mirabelle posed the night before?

Mirabelle takes Siffrin’s act 5 behavior…very personally. in her hurt and anger, she decides that if nothing’s wrong, if he thought it was okay to say something like that in that moment, they must have always been a worse person than she thought they were. she was always uncertain of his motives, his attitude. she reassures herself that their teasing is friendly, like it’s something she has to convince herself is true.

but some part of her really did believe that he saw himself as better than the rest of them—even if she never treated them with anything other than kindness! she didn’t let her uncertainty or anxiety get in the way of treating him with warmth, ignoring the potential bad-faith explanations of his behavior and trusting that they had better intentions than her fears would lead her to believe…until she had evidence that, just maybe, those fears weren’t so unfounded.

the Housemaiden in the Prologue even says that she thought they were mean, at first. uncaring. an impression that didn’t turn around until Siffrin got hurt protecting Bonnie. maybe it’s cheating a little bit to bring Prologue dialogue into an ISAT discussion since they’re not perfectly identical timelines, but i think it lines up with ISAT Mirabelle thinking Siffrin saw themself as “better” than her.

Prologue:

she applies this judgement not just in the moment, but retroactively. whatever goodwill and trust she had read into their behavior before, it’s gone. the person she reassured herself that he was would never do something like this, so she must have failed to understand him entirely, from the very beginning.

there’s no confrontation, in the Hangout loop. just a silent disappearance. they have no context or explanation for what happens. no heightened emotions from the immediacy of insults and anger thrown in their faces. but whatever emotions bubble up have time to simmer.

i can imagine Mirabelle’s thought process might be quite similar to how it is in Act 5.

something must be wrong, for them to act like this. to disappear without a word after promising everyone that they’d stay.

but if nothing’s wrong…she must have been wrong about them. he isn’t the person she thought he was. how could they leave now, after what they already sacrificed defending Bonnie? or was it because of what he lost defending them—that he had given all he was willing to give, and no more?

did they finally decide Mirabelle wasn’t a person worth believing in anymore? that her mission wasn’t important enough to waste his life in its pursuit? that someone like them shouldn’t bother following someone as weak as her?

she gave them the option to leave. she feels guilty that it hurts so much that he took it. angry and betrayed that he would lie to their faces and leave without a goodbye, when for all they know they’ll never see each other again. did they all really matter so little to him?

or was he scared, and unable to face them out of shame? can she really blame them for that, knowing her own terror at what entering the House will bring? maybe he’s just as scared as she is, even if he never shows it like she does. it’s their choice. he has no responsibility here, no obligation to stay and put himself in danger for their sakes. she offered them this. she offered them this. they’re allowed to change their mind. what right does she have to be angry? she would have understood if they’d just!! said something!!! it would have hurt, still, but, but—

did she ever really understand them at all, if she couldn’t see this coming?

partys cooking headcanons from my brain best to worst:

- bonnie: canonically good cook, proficient in the kitchen, 10/10 no notes

- isabeau: can make a couple of semi-complicated things, although often miscalculates the seasoning. given explicit instructions may be able to cook Very good dishes

- mirabelle: prone to anxiety attacks wherever the list of instructions is given or not. is able to make simple soups or dishes with very little amounts of steps

- siffrin: can successfully boil water on the stove and put/get out something in oven. mostly okay to leave in the kitchen but is Very Likely to mess up the ingredients and/or add some stuff that will make whatever he cooks inedible

Thought:

Pulling the belt loops of the twst cast to quiet them up or get their attention. It’s strangely intimate.

Words keep spilling from their lips in heaps, like a waterfall it’s continuous and pounding as you blink at them slowly. It’s not that you’re not interested on what they have to say but, by whatever God up there, you swear it’s been a good 30 or so minutes. While on a good day you’d be down to listening to them dog on-and-on, you’re aware that time spent with them privately can sometimes be a hard thing to come by.

So your fingers start to creep to his belt loops, hooking around the one by his back. He’s staring contemplatively at something in the distance, arms folded and mouth still yapping on.

Tugging him towards you is a gentle affair. His body yields to the force, feet slightly dancing to keep himself from colliding fully with you. He’s stopped speaking and is now looking at you.

There’s a flush at his cheeks, spotting his neck as he trails your arm which snakes to wrap around his waist and is still hooked to his back belt loop.

experimental pitbonnie doodles

He’s basically a culmination of the agony Afton created on that faithful day of June, 1985. Anything outside of that period of time does not affect him. Pitbonnie is essentially trying to mimic William, but because there isn’t much to go off of other than a murderer or a monster, he’s “incomplete” (reasoning to why his speech is garbled and acts like a beast). I feel like his voice lines are likely to what William has said in the past and he learns this through memories of the murders or William’s memories. The same thing also goes with Oswald’s dad, copying his behaviour to better fit in.

Pitbonnie is similar to the original Springbonnie suit, but I like to imagine he’s way bigger and uncanny like. Sort of comparing a rabbit to a hare lol and his tie has that dad style too :))

Normally 100%-ing a video game means helping as many people as possible or making your character the best possible version of themself or whatever which is why I find it so funny that to 100% isat you have to play Siffrin at their absolute worst. FOSSILIZED MARISA

The long-awaited sequel to my post about playing through all stories with Reimu.

STORY NOTES

You can see the sanctuary from the outside, but not the other way around (which I skipped over when playing Reimu). Again, Nareko says she's there to keep whatever's inside the pyramid inside. This reminds me somewhat of Reimu's Duplex Barrier (which recently was relevant in CDS).

Chimi says she's far older than the yamanba and youkai entirely. Is she the oldest non-god character?? Tewi has been dethroned /j

Nareko seems to be giving the entrance advice purely on vibes and doesn't seem to want to ever enter herself.

SCARLET DEVIL STONE

Shot: Parallel Focused Lasers, Spread Unfocused Lasers.

Anomaly: Shot boost. The lasers fork (up to 6).

Assist: Stronger when focused.

Marisa says only violence can break the seal. Ubame says she also wants in on the punishment of whoever did this.

Chimi asks her to please not destroy the altar with her violence.

Marisa answers a deep sea jellyfish.

CREATURE RED STONE

Shot: Missiles, exactly as Reimu's WBaWC stone worked except less orderly. If you know me you know this is my least favorite shot type.

Anomaly: Shot boost, very wide range.

Assist: Anomaly gauge fills faster.

SNOW BLOSSOM STONE

Shot: Icicles shoot wildly from an option that circles Marisa (similar to Yukari's needles in SA).

Anomaly: Homing, shot boost.

Assist: Stronger when unfocused.

Marisa says only the power of nature can break the seal and restore the sanctuary. Ubame says she won't interfere, then.

Chimi wonders if the altar will accept the very old belief in the snow stone.

Marisa answers a tundra mole.

BLUE SEASON STONE

Shot: Backwards

Anomaly: Every bullet behind Marisa is cleared.

Assist: More powerup items.

YELLOW SUBTERRANEAN STONE

Shot: Options far ahead arranged in a crescent shape.

Anomaly: Mistake prevention barrier.

Assist: Grazing may erase bullets.

Marisa and Ubame repeat the pollution / trash joke from before.

Chimi says she gets a bad feeling from the stone and that she can feel it at the altar (something like that?). Nareko confirms this by saying that the pyramid oddly enough seems to welcome that pure and ruthless power.

Marisa answers harvestmen attached to a meteorite.

IMPERISHABLE MOON STONE

Shot: Floating options (I feel like they're slower).

Anomaly: Screen clear.

Assist: Options may erase bullets.

BEAST HARDNESS STONE

Shot: Pack of wolves (wide straight line of options that shoot wolves and stay in place when focused).

Anomaly: Spellcard Fragment.

Assist: Stronger shot against wonder stones.

Marisa and Ubame repeat the joke about finding those who have given up on society.

Chimi says the stone has a very mysterious power and the altar won't like it, because it's a place of more primitive worship.

Marisa answers tardigrades that live in satellite orbit.

SHINTOISM WIND STONE

Shot: Frog Shot (up to 6). If you ever regretted never using Sanae's frog shot because homing while focused is honestly a better bargain, this is your chance! It's a very powerful shot!

Anomaly: Bullet erasing / enemy damaging circle.

Assist: Longer anomaly attacks.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I have to wonder not only about the link between incident pairs, but what's truly important - the link between them and this incident. How does the violence from EoSD (...vampires, I guess) and WBaWC tie into the south of the pyramid? How does the natural frozen sadness from PCB and HSiFS tie into the north entrance, too old to be accepted?

How does the strange purity from SA (...spirits?) and IN fit so well into the west entrance that the pyramid seems to welcome it? How does the divinity of UDoALG and MoF stand too modern for the altar, sent to the east?

Of course, it's easy to see that MoF can be about Kanako as a goddess of innovation, but how would UDoALG have modernity? Is it its recency? Is it some way to compare the oldness of a season (winter) against the newness of beast, generation after generation?

All I can find on this matter is a bit of symbolism.

South is tied to summer, the season where EoSD and WBaWC both took place. North is tied to winter, and although neither PCB nor HSiFS take place during winter, they are somewhat related thanks to the lack of spring / winter subseason.

West is connected to autumn - IN does take place during autumn. SA does not, so who knows what's up with that. East is a direction fitting for the divine (especially in the context of the Hakurei Barrier), so while MoF doesn't take place in spring (and who knows when UDoALG happened), there might be enough of a connection.

That aside, what we DO know about this "Master of the Altar" is that they would be angered by violence, reluctant about the old winter, welcoming (?) to the strange purity, and saddened by the divine modernity.

And, of course, the fact that they were not only sealed deep inside a pyramid, but also in a secluded sanctuary that locks itself probably so no one could think of getting them out of there. Most interesting.

Once more I must wonder if there is any deeper connection to these specific incidents. Why not PoFV making the Barrier waver? Why not the upheaval of DDC? Why not the religious war that went around from UFO-HM?

Admittedly, that last one would be going back to that, again, when so much has already happened because of it. Also, I don't mention LoLK because Eientei's incorporation into Gensokyo feels more thematic than just the Lunar Capital being its usual self; nor UM because UDoALG is already tied to it.

But hell, even some spinoffs have potential. I've already talked about how these wonder stones resemble the power stones of the Urban Legend Incident, but there's also potential in Suika (who would definitely know stuff about the mountain) and Tenshi (with whatever Heaven's got going on).

So yes, I'm quite excited to find out if there's any rhyme or reason for these being the incidents with wonder stones, and what the deal is with the late game characters.

Last but not least, why the hell did only Reimu and Marisa notice this? Or did other humans see these stones but say, Sakuya is too busy brewing the same cup of tea over and over again in the time loop?
